JennyW: Hello Everyone! Just checking in to see if anyone wants to get this group going again! Hope all is well where ever you live! 2024-08-14, 08:21:59

Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Oldiesmann: So sorry for your loss Carol. Praying for you and your family :( 2022-05-01, 17:13:05

Carol: My husband Don is with the angels.....Our family was able to hold  ourselves together for the last moments.  Juar rhoufhr you might want to know. 2022-04-29, 23:35:15

Carol: Thankful:  Don is home from hospital.  I found him unconscious with head outside on the floor and the rest was in the shower.  At the same moment, one son was walking through the front door to visit.  Two fire trucks came racing in and they took over After 2021-12-29, 22:01:26

A link to our latest video - a very short video of a few of our old building images with music.

Hope you are all well!

Jenny...what does that star represent on the wooden building?

Hello Jacqueline! If I remember my history correctly, the barn star started with the Pennsylvania Dutch (German settlers here in Pennsylvania) who would put the star on their barn (and hex signs too) in order to bring the owner good luck and ward off evil spirits. Also as a mark of the builder. Nowadays everyone puts stars/hex signs on buildings as a cultural folk decoration. I live in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country - Lancaster County. We have a large community of Amish who live pretty much the same as when they came here 200 years ago. Lol! They use horse and buggy to get around, dress in plain clothing, do not have electric in their homes, and farm old-school style. Lancaster County is a weird mix of this Amish community living amongst a progressively modern city/surrounding suburbs; so you have to make sure you leave earlier than you need to for wherever you want to go in case you get behind a few horse and buggies on your way to someplace. And when you go to your local WalMart, you'll see horse and buggies parked in designated areas of the parking lot. https://www.amishvillage.com/blog/

Hope you are doing well!

Jenny...thank you for the link on the living life of the Amish, i am familiar of the Amish existence and that they live behind our times...a simple life...

I had a feeling that the star might have represented something like warding off the evil..We in UK would once have placed a horseshoe for good luck and keeping away evil when hung in the U shape...

The horseshoe over the door is exactly the same idea! For as little as the Amish know of the wide world, most everyone knows of them. Lol! The tourist industry around here is always busy because of them.
