Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Carol: Thankful:  Don is home from hospital.  I found him unconscious with head outside on the floor and the rest was in the shower.  At the same moment, one son was walking through the front door to visit.  Two fire trucks came racing in and they took over After 2021-12-29, 22:01:26

Heather thanks!  I am going to copy this into a thread of it's own, cause I have some things I want to say.   ;)

JudyB

I am coming into this late.  But I have a few comments.
1     I love the old hymns.  There ate several reasons the leastof which being they are freat reading material for Kids to learn to read!

2     With the drums and guitars being heard over the singers it is impossible for us oldersters to hear the words.  But because the younger generation is tuned into this kind of music, they hear the words and understand them.  How I will never know, but several have proven this to me.

There is a place for the drums and guitars, and that is as a hook.  A hook for the Christian kids to understand their peers and a hook for the unsaved to come to Christ.  The words of some of these songs are powerful.

At our church we have an evening singing the old hymns.  The kids are right in there requesting the golden oldies with the elder members.  There is variety in what we as a family sing.

When dreaming I'm guided to another world
Time and time again
At sunrise I fight to stay asleep
'Cause I don't want to leave the comfort of this place
'Cause there's a hunger, a longing to escape
From the life I live when I'm awake

So let's go there
Let's make our escape
Come on, let's go there
Let's ask can we stay

Can you take me higher?
To a place where blind men see?
Can you take me higher?
To a place with golden streets?

Although I would like our world to change
It helps me to appreciate
Those nights and those dreams
But, my friend, I'd sacrifice all those nights
If I could make the Earth and my dreams the same
The only difference is
To let love replace all our hate

So let's go there
Let's make our escape
C'mon let's go there
Let's ask can we stay

Can you take me higher?
To a place where blind men see?
Can you take me higher?
to a place with golden streets?

So let's go there
Let's go there
C'mon let's go there
Let's ask can we stay

Up high I feel like I'm alive for the very first time
Sail up high I'm strong enough to take these dreams
And make them mine.

Sail up high I'm strong enough to take these dreams
And make them mine.

Can you take me higher?
To a place where blind men see?
Can you take me higher?
to a place with golden streets?

I never knew that a kid like me
could take his mic around the world
and flash the big sd
and rock the masses
from madrid to calabasas
Tijuana, Mexico
bootleg demos in Tokyo
they know me though
cause I be puttin' work
commit my life to rebirth
well respected
cause that's my word
I'm sure you heard
about a new sound going around
she might have left my hood
but she was born in my town

bridge
you didn't know that we was new on the scene
well it's all right it's all right!
i know you know
i see you smiling at me
well it's alright it's alright!

chorus
Boom
here comes the
BOOM
ready or not
here comes the boys from the south
BOOM
here comes the
BOOM
ready or not
how you like me now

we rep. the south
so what you talking abou
i'm not running off my mouth
i know this without a doubt
cause if you know these streets
then these streets know you
when it's time to handle business
then we know what to do
me and my crew
we stay true old skool or new
many were called
but the chosen are few (we are few)
we rise to the top
what you want?
just in case you forgot
rush to the stage
grab my mic
show me what you got!

*bridge and chorus*

*bridge*

Is that all you got?
I'll take your best shot (x5)
I'll take your best shot

(x4)
Is that all you got?
Well it's all right, it's all right
I'll take your best shot

*chorus x2*

#1 is CREED
#2 is POD

I'm answering this before I see whether anybody else has or not, just to show how smart I am ..... JUST KIDDING :) :)

Creed's lyrics on that one album were much more spiritually oriented than most of the so-called Christian group POD's lyrics.  Creed, however, does NOT want to called a Christian group because they "have no agenda to convert people to Christianity."  Since their heart is not with spreading the gospel, I would agree that they are NOT a "Christian" band.

More some other time :)

It always amuses those of us who play our guitars kinda loud to listen to a organist concert.....

Nards, it is funny that you made the comment about the volume of the organ.  I told my wife yesterday after church that our organist had "the pedal to the medal" with her playing of the Prelude and Postlude.   :D

The band members for Creed have all said that they are Christians, and their music definately reflects that.  I listen to Creed on a regular basis, even tho they don't call themselves a Christian band, simply because their music and lyrics are usually not something that causes my spirit to rebel against my ears.  However, I don't listen to POD, even though I own one of their albums, I usually feel very agitated when I do listen to POD, so I stay away from their music all together.

Take Care,
Heather

This is from www.creed.com....
QuoteIs Creed a Christian band?
"Are we a Christian band? This is a question we are asked a lot because of some of the references made in the lyrics. No, we are not a Christian band. A Christian band has an agenda to lead others to believe in their specific religious beliefs. We have no agenda! Those references were made at a time in my life when I was questioning how I was raised, and searching for where I stood concerning those issues. This is not to say I have abandoned those beliefs, just searching for where they fit into my life." -- Scott Stapp

Are the members of Creed Christians?
"This is a very personal question because the whole foundation of being a Christian is a personal relationship. I can say that all the members believe in God, but we each differ on our methods to reach Him. We are all still learning and growing, and God can only answer this question, because who are we to say that being a Christian is the only way to heaven. I know this might be hard to understand for all the Christians who follow the band--and trust me, I know where you are coming from--but let us continue to seek, and if that is the way, then we will find, if we continue to knock, the doors will be opened." -- Scott Stapp

I'm pretty sure I don't agree with Mr. Stapp on several things here, but I'm not posting this to be argumentative with either him or with you, Heather.  Simply wanted to show what I was referring to in my earlier post and maybe clarify a couple things.

I like their music but am not sure we are philosophically in tune enough to where I relax while listening to it :)

Thanks Marilyn for reporting this.

I enjoyed this little discussion.

My two boy's are doing a fine job choosing the right music.  They listen to it before they buy it and then read the lyrics.  If they don't have God or Jesus in any of the songs then they don't buy it.

They both decided not to buy anymore POD or listen to the cd's they had bought.  We noticed a new cd of theirs and they really didn't have a message.

Chris and Margit:  I enjoy the "cyberhymnal" you posted here back in June, 2003.  I hope others have bookmarked it as well.
Thanks for all the excellent choices!
