Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Carol: Thankful:  Don is home from hospital.  I found him unconscious with head outside on the floor and the rest was in the shower.  At the same moment, one son was walking through the front door to visit.  Two fire trucks came racing in and they took over After 2021-12-29, 22:01:26

Wow, you're good!
Gee, wish I had an expensive, good camera like everyone else on this site. :(
Oh, well. Great pic!

Pat

Norty, many have only Point & Shoot cameras so get out there and start taking some photos!  :)

Great photo, Kathleen ...

BTW Norty ... I don't even have a camera ... let's see some more of your photos, okay?
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Norty, I am one of those with a simple point-and-shoot camera.  I simply explain to anyone who will listen that I am definitely not a "photographer".  I am, pure and simply, a "picture taker"!   ;D

JudyB

Yes Norty I am a point and shoot picture taker.  Lets see more of yours.

Kathleen this is really beautiful.

Pat

Kathleen, do you have any more from this series?  If you do, I'd certainly love to see some more in this Iris topic.  ;)

Thanks, everyone!  What's funny is, I am looking at getting a point and shoot camera.  A Canon G10 which is Canon's higher level point and shoot.  I don't like to always haul my heavy 20D and lenses around with me, especially for stuff like the county fair where it's mainly a family affair, not a shooting event.  I want something to put in my pocket or purse.

Anyway, I do have more of this Iris, Pat, but I've done so much shooting lately that I haven't gotten to them to process more, yet.  I do have one more that's ready that I will post here...

Oh, how lovely.  I just think that the Iris is so regal.

So do I, Pat!  Regal and beautiful!  This is one of the Irises I bought my mother for Mother's Day this year.  There were two shades of purple and white ones in the bouquet.

Point and shoot people...nothing fancy here!  Natural light from my kitchen window, black poster board for background, white poster board for reflector.  That's my set up.  I know there are settings even on most point and shoot cameras that can cause more or less depth of field for artistic decisions.   So, get shooting and posting those point and shoot shots!   :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:  You can do it!

Here's another Iris...(Oh btw, I did use a polarizing filter, too.)

This one was already white and I converted it to all black and white.

You are indeed a skilled artist.  Well done!

I'll bet your mom loved them!

Pat

I keep coming back here, Kathleen.

What regal beauty!  Just love this topic of Iris!

Kathleen, yes indeed, there are all kinds of settings for special shots on my camera.  The thing is, I haven't the least idea how or when to use any of them (except the macro and super macro).  So I just leave it on Auto and let the camera do its thing!   :D   Oh, yes - I do sometimes use the 3X zoom feature.   ;D

How nice, Pat.  I will try to do some more to add to this, but I may have to wait until next week.  This weekend is very busy with my daughter's graduation and then a reception at our house afterwards and family in town for it.

Here's another Iris that I took at a park downtown.  It was originally yellow and growing by the water's edge.  It's more impressive if you view it larger.  You can do that by clicking here...http://www.shekinahphotography.com/p539974769/h1d57c104#h1d57c104  (After you follow the link, click on the photo again and it will enlarge.)

You are amazing with your photography.  Well done!

Kathleen, my camera dial has one icon for automatic, one for anti-shake (where I keep it most of the time), the word Scene, letter S, letter A, an icon of a movie camera, an icon for viewing pictures/movies stored in an "album" on the memory card and an arrow for viewing what is currently on the card.

I have a manual with all sorts of instructions and I read it and think -  Oh, I have to try that!  But when it comes time to take a picture all I think about is centering the subject and pushing the button.    I guess I'm just hopeless.   :D

Norty

Ok, I'll perk up. I guess I am lucky to have a camera at all. :)
And I'll try to remember to post more pictures.
Thank you! ;D

   Courtney  :rose:

JudyB

Jeanne  Just take more , many more pictures,  read and perhaps reread the specific section on the camera that you want to use and take pics using that feature till it becomes second nature.  Not all will be keepers, and that will be OK as you are learning.  As I recall that is how pat did it.  You can do this.  Now for me to put into practice what I have just said!  Only thing is I don't have digital and every pic costs film.

Jeanne Lee

Judy, I sure do understand about not doing things because of the cost.  Since I had to leave my part time job I have to pinch pennies until Lincoln screams.   ;D

Part of my problem is that I don't have that special "eye" that sees opportunities for pictures, and when I do see something I'd like to take a picture of it always seems to be at a time or place where it's impossible.   :(

Amen to that.  There is a heron that I have seen frequently.  It is a beautiful bird.  I now have the camera in the car and would you believe it I haven't seen him since.

I just got an 11x14 print of this image on metallic paper , matted and framed, to give my mother for her birthday.  It's absolutely stunning!  (if I do say so myself :-[) The clarity is amazing and the metallic paper makes it look 3D!  It will be hard to part with it.  Maybe she won't like it and I can keep it... ;D  I'm not going to hold my breath!

If you like being a picture taker, than I say "Go for it!"  Take pictures, look at pictures, study about pictures and take more pictures.  You never know, you may turn into a photographer one day.  Either way, be sure to have fun taking pictures.  ;)

Thanks for the encouraging words, Kathleen.  :D

That iris photo is absolutely gorgeous.  I can just imagine what it looks like on the metallic paper.
