Nikon D7000 vs. D300s

I am looking to buy a new camera this coming March. I would like to know your opinions first hand on which would suit me better.

Personally I like the D300s because of the 'PRO' line and stuff. Additionally, I have big hands and might fall short of the D7000's slightly smaller exterior.

The D7000 on the other hand blows me away with ISO 25600 which I could still use in B & W.
I normally shoot for journalism, fashion, and events.

Can you guys help?

I shoot with a D300 and love it.  The D7000 similar to a D90, which my wife uses, and I much prefer the 300.  It is more pro than the 90.  However, my favorite is the D2H, yes I know it is old. bit it just feels great  in my hands.

3739, I think you face the dilemma many are facing regarding which Nikon camera body to buy in this price area.  I used to own a D300 before it was stolen back in December.  I primarily shoot sports and wanted the ISO the D7000 provides.  The ISO performance is really good but the D7000 did not have the "pro" performance of the D300.  When I would press the button to get a shot the D300 never failed.  The D7000 did not fire on demand for me as fast as I would like.  I would miss shots because it was just too slow.  I'm not sure if its the computing power inside or what?  Otherwise the D7000 is an outstanding camera and now serves as my backup/short lens body.  Unless you are shooting sports I think the D7000 will be fine.  To get the ISO performance and the "pro" body I bought a D700 to serve as my primary body.  I hope this helps??

Yes, I have been facing this dilemma as what others tend to have also. My main problem is that I don't have a unit to test it with, camera shops here in the Philippines doesn't normally allow you to hold the camera since they're sealed. I don't with the rest tho'.

I hear lots of good stuff on the D300 AF. And coming from the D40 (upgrading this first quarter of 2011), the D7000 is already a good upgrade. I am somewhat satisfied with the D90's ISO performance so I guess the D300/s isn't a problem.

Maybe I could wait for the D300s replacement? Sadly, they would bump up the price again similar to what they're selling here with the D7000 which is the same price with the D300s.

If so I could wait, I just have to give myself another set of glass. Eyeing for a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 UWA.

Thanks so much for your replies guys. The D300 AF made me really curious. BTW, which has a snappier AF (D300 or D700?) I think I can borrow from a from these units next month. Moreover, how would the D300 AF fare with the 7D? Canon's AF are fast, but somehow, the little dot of AF point's seem to confuse the system.

Thanks all for sharing your thoughts on the D7000, vs. 300.   I've been looking to upgrade as well and have been reading a lot about the D700.   But I've gotten snippets of gossip that Nikon will release a D800 in March of this year, so 3739, if you are able to wait until the new camera comes out, the prices on either the D700 or the D7000 might fall again in your favor.  Then you can choose the better camera for a better price.  I tend to think the D300 is better because it is more in line with the pro shooters, but the ISO capabilities of the D7000 are definitely a plus.   As for me, I'm still dreaming of having a D700 so I don't have to replace it for years.
