Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Hi, is there anyone in this forum using sheet film cameras for example a Press camera like the Graflex or Linhof Technica? I enjoy shooting film and my film formats range from 8mmx11mm (Minox B) to 8x10 inches (Sinar P2MB). Other film cameras which I've used during the years were the Olympus OM1 From 1974 to 1986 and a Pentax 6x7 from 1976 to 2010
When I have to use Digital capture cameras, these are available, Olympus E510, iPhone 4 and my trusty Lumix DMC-TZ15. I'm an Aussie living in Delaware from 2010.
Best wishes in the name of Jesus,
Patrick.

Film?  What's film??? ;)

But seriously, I don't think I've heard anyone on this forum mention using film in recent times.

Ken, are you aware that the history of photography spans 175 years? There is a wealth of information to be gleaned from this period of time. One thing I see sadly lacking in the digital capture operator of today be it an amateur or most professionals is the inability to take time and apply the fine art of composition and lighting at the point of capture, an example of this is when the digital capture operator takes between 3 and 50 captures and endeavors to turn one or two of them into something fascinating which in many cases is not a true representation of the original scene. I switched to the view camera in 2008 so as to slow down and learn about light and composition, I like the cinematographers saying, "It's in the can" that is to say, its perfect, I got it.

Hello Patrick,

Indeed I am aware of photographic history, and as with most technologies, the state-of-the-art changes over time.  Many of the concepts and principles continue to apply, regardless of our decision to use film or digital format.  And just because a person has the ability to release the shutter as if it was a machine gun, doesn't mean that we all employ that technique.  But we can, if we so choose.  And for some motion sequences it allows for an entirely new ability to capture movement and form that was unattainable in the "good old days" of film.  I do see a lot of haphazard and even strange post-processing used today, but the fact that I don't find it appealing personally, doesn't imply that it shouldn't be done.  In fact, there were some photographers who criticized Ansel Adams for the manipulations he employed when he processed film, but today he is commonly heralded as one of the best landscape and nature artists of all time.

I do miss some aspects of film photography, but not too many of them.  Good composition, proper lighting, and creative scene development are all equally important in both the film and digital worlds.  Best wishes in your search for kindred spirits of the passion for sheet film photography, I am sure they are out there somewhere!

Thank's Ken for your comments, I was just poking about to ascertain how many people are still using film. I have been receiving the large format photographers publication called View Camera magazine for many years which connects me with a wide array of photographers using large film but am lacking good Christian company (fellowship) in this area of photography. I'm blessed that you replied to my enquire and pray that God continues to bless you in your photographic skills so that through this gift you are able to point people to the creator God.
Best wishes in the name of Jesus,
Patrick.

I have a camera club at the school where I teach.   Yesterday, I gook a Polaroid SX-70, and a Polaroid 600, loaded with Impossible film packs, to the meeting and let the kids see what they could do.   It was funny to see them try to figure out what they wanted to do with only two shots apiece.

And they were fascinated with the mechanics of the process.   Also took a Ricoh Diacord loaded with 120 film and let them play with it.

Should be interesting to see how that came out.   Impossible film is a product of a non-Polaroid company, trying to keep old Polaroid cameras in use.   Love it, expensive as it is.
