How To Use This Board

This board, "Critique Corner" is a place where we are enabling the attachment feature.  It does not take the place of our wonderful gallery.

For this board:

  • First of all we want you all to make sure you've seen the description of this Board.

Would you like to be a better photographer?  Would you like a critique of one of your favorite images, or seriously tough evaluation of a shot which may need improvement?  This is the place where our more experienced photographers have volunteered to provide this service.  Images should be saved and manipulated only with owner's permission.

  • To open your own topic for critiquing, Click on the "Start New Topic" button at the top right when you are at the Board level.

  • Type your post (description of the photo you are going to post)

  • Type your Subject on the Subject Line (i.e. "Blue Flower" or "What's wrong with this photo?", etc.)

  • In the typing box, type your questions or comments about the photo that you'd like to be critiqued.

  • Go down below the white box where you are typing your photo description and click on "Additional Options..."

  • There you will see the option entitles "Attach: ...."

  • Click on the Browse button and then navigate to the photo on your computer making sure that it is no larger than 200 KB and no wider than 800 pixels or it won't post. (Please note that this is a different size than we will have in place in the gallery)

  • Click on the photo in your computer folder and then see the name of it on the line next to the Attach button.

  • Click on the arrow in the drop-down menu and select "Inline full-size image"

  • Click "Post"

  • See your photo!

These attached photos are uploaded to our server as are the ones in the Gallery and we would appreciate it if you do not have the same photo uploaded twice.  So, if your photo that you want critiqued is in your album in the gallery, please link (see correct code below) to it and if it's not, then feel free to use the attach feature.  May we ask that you consider this and use discretion in the number of photos you post per day?

We also have the pixels set so that if it is above the allowed pixels of largest side of 800, it will be resized by the software.

You can also post photos in here linked to some outside storage area that allows linking or from your gallery if the photo is in there.  Just use the following code (Copy and paste it):

Use the same code if the photo is already in your album in the Gallery so that the photo you want critiqued isn't on the server twice.

If you know the settings of the photo (ie., ISO, shutter speed, f stop) that would also help with giving critique.  The team can tell you then if you ought to have changed your setting.

If you are shooting in auto, that can actually help you also, you will know if your camera is over or under exposing that sort of picture.

Please note that a member's image may only be altered or manipulated with their permission.  So if you are happy for this to be done, please say so.  ;)

After your image is critiqued, you may wish to make some corrections to your original following some of the suggestions given to you.  Please feel free to do this.  We'd like to see your improvements as well. :)
