Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

I would  be interested in knowing which photography magazine you consider to be the best, all-around one, for the money, if you could only subscribe to one ?

I'd like to  subscribe to one that primarily centers around digital photography, but one that also includes solid articles on other related aspects of photography, such as composition, lighting, framing, exposure, close-ups, B & W, filters, equipment, etc., etc. One that has more "meat" than advertising inside would also be nice! Is there such a magazine being published today? How about "Popular Photography & Imaging", for instance? I believe thy've been around a long time.

I'd also appreciate knowing which 2-3 books you personally consider to be the best on digital photography and/or just the art of taking  excellent photos?
Thanks!

Magazines:  Digital Photo Pro is my favorite all around magazine because it seems to look more at some of the more advanced topics.  I also enjoy Outdoor Photo.

Boods:  I probably recommend Understand Exposrue by Bryan Peterson more than any other book.  I also enjoy his book Learning to See Creatively.  For a more general overview style book, I like Real World Digital Photography by Eissmann, Duggan, Grey.

Thanks for your great suggestions, Carl. Hopefully others will share their favorites too.

Funny you should mention Peterson's, "Learning to See Creatively", because I just ordered a nice like-new, 1988 copy of it from Alibris a week ago, and should get it before long.  :)  I also have a couple of Freeman Patterson's books, including "Photography & the Art of Seeing", which I've almost finished.  :)

Surely there must be some other photographers here that also subscribe to photo magazines (those without any nudity) or have some good digital photo book recommendations?   :(

I subscribe to Outdoor photography, and popular photography, I often pick of issues of shutterbug. Shutterbug seems to be the more meaty of the three.

Hi Jim,

I purchase many magazines in Australia and some from overseas. I too would recommend Bryan Petersens "Understanding Exposure" which I recommend to anyone starting out in photography. There are many good English magazines. In Australia we have "Better Photography" and "Better Digital" and "Better Photoshop" which are aimed at enthusiast and pro level and are very good.A lot of magazines of course do a lot of camera reviews and printer reviews. We have in Australia also "Capture" which is aimed at Pro market and very good and "Pro Photo" . Most photography magazines concentrate on Digital although some have articles about the old days and older film cameras.I guess a lot depends on whether you want to learn about software and editing or actual photography. The Lynda series of videos are excellent for instruction in Photoshop and Lightroom. "Camera' and "Australian Photography" are quite good magazines in Australia also.
