Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Does Photography have 3 parts?

God is good all the time.

This is my first post here in Christian Photographers and I just want to praise God for the existence of this website. I pray that all of us here give God the glory every time we press the shutter.

I've just come home from a very eye-opening seminar regarding anointed worship; music was one of the key topics discussed. One thing that was mentioned was that Christian and secular artists agree that music is composed of three parts: melody, harmony, and rhythm. As I mentioned in this topic's title, do you think photography has three parts too? If so, what are they? You may or may not base your answer on the three parts of music I mentioned.

God bless us all with wisdom. To Him be all the glory.

I'm not a photographer however I've heard of this.....

Rule of Thirds

The rule of thirds means that the frame can be divided into three horizontal sections and three vertical sections and therefore, where the horizontal and vertical lines intersect makes an ideal location for the more important parts of your picture. For landscape photographers, the divisions can also be very important in setting up a picture; they can for example, help you determine that only 1/3 of the photo should be foreground or horizon.

I'm new to this site too. 3 things I try to keep in mind are shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. I'm still learning in this area, but it's amazing the differences you can make in a photo by changing these settings.
It's really nice to see a website for Christian photographers - a real inspiration for me as I continue photographing God's wonderful creation.

Enjoying God's handiwork!

Good to see you joining in the conversation Betty.

What a great question. The 2 answers in particular (1)about the rule of 3rds and(2) also shutter, aperture and ISO are good examples.
I also think from a Christian point of view human nature is 3 fold and in God's image.
Body, Soul and Spirit.
equating with
God the Father ,Son and Holy Spirit.
Each time you photograph a
I believe  we need to take into account all 3.
(1) Are we sensitive to the person's emotions(soul)
(2) Are we presenting the Body of the person as God would approve.
(3) Are we capturing the essential character of the person. Their spirit.
On my blog I have written about "Using your camera for God" which may be of interest. My blog is listed in the directory of members.Welcome to the newcomers. I am still a "semi newbie" myself.

JudyB

I am enjoying reading this discussion.  All are valid points.

To all, thank you very much for your insights. It is interesting to see the answers of brethren (and 'sister'-en) who are blessed with the desire to take and/or appreciate photographs. Please pray for me, as by the grace of God I am trying to come up with a paper with full details on my approach to this question.

May the Lord bless and keep you all. I pray that all is well.

I never thought about photography having three parts, but I think it does. I like the mind, body, soul analogy.

The Mind;
what our imagination sees

the Body;
What we try to capture with our photography

The Soul/Spirit
What we hope to communicate with our photography.

Wow!! I love the question and I equally enjoy the interesting responses. Jibee, you got me thinking!!
Well, if I divided photography into three, these would be the three.

1. LIGHT
2. CAMERA
3. EYE
