Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Carol: Thankful:  Don is home from hospital.  I found him unconscious with head outside on the floor and the rest was in the shower.  At the same moment, one son was walking through the front door to visit.  Two fire trucks came racing in and they took over After 2021-12-29, 22:01:26

Pat I just signed up for Tribal Beat too.

Guess what..I have a lovely little carved elephant on my shelf from Papua, my friend Liz went over to stay with some missionaries there and brought it home for me. It is very special.

Pat

Jenny, that's so special to have something right from the country.  I imagine Papa John's home is full of little momentos like this from his time spent in Papua New Guinea.

Glad to see you reading these, Jenny!   :-*

New Tribes Mission Weekly Update~October 1st

In sickness and in health

    VENEZUELA:
    Yanomami tribe:

Yanomami believer Felipe is learning to have a courageous faith. His wife, Rosa, has not been interested in what God offers her, but a life-threatening case of malaria brings eternity very close. Pray that Rosa will soon know the comfort of a loving God and Savior. Find out more -- read the full story online >>

    GUINEA:
    Landuma tribe:

Missionaries Kirk and Yolanda Rogers are mourning the deaths of two Landuma friends, the village chief Alidi and his wife Fatu. It is even more sobering as they are unsure of the couple's faith in Chrst. Pray that Landuma believers will be an encouragement to Alidi's family. Find out more -- read the full story online >>

    GUINEA:
    Landuma tribe:

Thursday missionaries Dan and Ginny Bryant started moving their family into the Landuma village of Kimiya. They've experienced some car trouble and other logistical challenges. Pray for a smooth transition and for encouragement as they settle into their new home.

    PAPUA NEW GUINEA:
    Siawi tribe:

Within days of hearing the Gospel, Siawis' attention is turned away by fears of sorcery; they feel this caused the death of a two-year-old boy Tuesday. Their hopeless grief stands in stark contrast to the truth they will soon hear -- the message of hope and love that dispels all fears. Pray. Find out more -- read the full story online >>

    PAPUA NEW GUINEA:
    Manam tribe:

Missionary Alton Shady and Manam believer James Moarupu are teaching the Manams about God and man's inability to please God on his own. Pray that the people will continue to attend Bible teaching despite many distractions.

    PAPUA NEW GUINEA:
The weekend-long regional conference has begun for missionaries in Madang. Pray that it will be a refreshing time of fellowship and that these missionaries would return to their ministries encouraged.

    PAPUA NEW GUINEA:
    Mouk tribe:

Bible teachers from the Mouk tribe are translating Bible lessons into the Lusi language but have found some things they need help with. They approached missionary Jon Wols, who ministers among the Lamogais, and asked if a Bible translator can help. Pray for a translator.

    MOZAMBIQUE:
Missionaries D.J. Morrison and Anthony Chee, along with Mozambican believer Benjamin Liwa, recently traveled to Northwestern Niassa to assess the needs for placing missionary teams in the area. They were encouraged by the reception given them by local authorities and the people. They ascertained needs in many areas where there is no evangelical witness. Pray for wisdom and direction.

    MOZAMBIQUE:
Missionaries Matt and Debbie Zook have arrived in Portugal where they will be in language study for nine months in preparation for their ministry in Mozambique. Pray that they will acclimate quickly to their new home.

    MONGOLIA:
More than 200 people have contracted the bubonic plague and one has already died in the countryside town that NTM leaders Bob and Noby Kennell and Steve and Elaine Bram are visiting. The town is under a week-long quarantine. However, if another plague-related death occurs, the city quarantine will be extended to a month. Pray for God's protection and that those suffering would soon heal.

    SENEGAL:
    Balanta tribe:
An enthusiastic crowd showed up for the annual Balanta cultural festival where literacy was the main theme. The literacy program that had a very small beginning ten years ago is now like a rushing river. Praise God with missionaries Dave and Tippy McKee for wide open doors and widespread interest.

    PARAGUAY:
    Pai tribe:

Missionary Wayne Goddard and two Pai couples are teaching evangelistic Bible lessons in the village of Mboi Jagua. Pray that this week many Pais will understand what Christ has made possible for them.

    MEXICO:
    Tepehuan tribe:

New Tepehuan believers, Octavio and Ines, face extreme pressures to return to the Tepehuan way of drinking and having wild parties. Last weekend they got drunk and Ines, who is seven months pregnant, stabbed Octavio with a kitchen knife to protect herself from his beating. Pray for physical and spiritual healing for Octavio and Ines and that they both may experience God's grace and forgiveness on a deeper level.

    PANAMA:
    Embera tribe:

Missionary Doug Schermerhorn is traveling in the USA, presenting the Embera Bible translation project. But he has grown tired and weak. Pray that he will be strengthened and encouraged and that he will encounter people who desire to be a part of getting God's Word to the Embera.

    UNITED STATES:
Hurricane Jeanne, the fourth this month to hit Florida, swept through Sanford last weekend with gusts of 65 mph. Praise God that Jeanne inflicted little damage to the NTM Home Office and surrounding area.[/list]

"Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord."

Pat:  Thanks for the update!  Friends of my parents worked in VENEZUELA:
Yanomami tribe:  - this is the missionary who lived with us for almost a year when I was 10 - 11.  Now they are retired and in Sanford, FL.  so I always love to read the news of New Tribes as it was really a small institution as compared to today.  Carol

    Update October 2005

This is from the newspaper buried in the back....

Venezuela is evicting the New Tribes Mission
The vice pres of Venezuela Rangel and the pres Chavez have announced the order to the group of missionaries to leave calling them CIA "imperiealist infiltration".    The spokesperson for NTM in Sanford, Florida has denied any CIA links.

There are now about 160 personnel in Venezuela and that includes 30 who are Venezuelans.  They have been accused  of building "Luxurious" camps next to impoverished Indian villages as they fly in and out on private planes.

The groups says that recent comments by religious broadcaster, Pat Robertson calling for Chavez's assination prompted government investigations into their work.  They also issued a statement condemning Robertson's remarks, for which he later apologized.

My take on this is that it really sad when any religious leader throws power around and speaks such unchristian words.  I have know this group for years and my parents supported them when it was a young group.  Nothing in their lives has been luxurious - the living conditions have been grim, to say the least.
