JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

This is an email from a fellow named Mike Ghiz who was a fellow seminary student of my daughter, Janice back in the 1980's...

    Dear friends;

We just got another report of a fellow brother in Christ was killed by a bomb attached to a door of a missionaries home. I served with this brother once many years before. The missionary couple where the bomb was meant for are dear friends of ours. Pray for safety for servants of the Lord in this country.

    Below is as recent article:

    Yours in Christ

Bomb Kills Man Outside European Missionaries' House in Northern Lebanon
The Associated Press

BEIRUT, Lebanon May 7 —
A bomb exploded outside the home of a Christian missionary couple in northern Lebanon, killing an Arab neighbor who attempted to dismantle it, security officials said Wednesday.

Police said the bomb, estimated at around four pounds, exploded overnight outside the house of a Dutch missionary and his German wife in Qubba, a neighborhood in the predominantly Sunni Muslim port city of Tripoli.

Neighbor Jamil Ahmed Rifai was killed instantly, said police in Beirut, some 50 miles south.

Military officials said the victim, Jordanian Muslim who had converted to evangelism, was at the couple's house when they heard a noise outside.

Rifai found a bag shooting out sparks, the officials said. As he tried to dismantle the fuse the bomb exploded, they said.

The explosion late Tuesday shattered windows of nearby houses and damaged parked cars, military officials and police said. They all spoke on condition of anonymity.

It was not immediately clear who planted the device. Police were investigating.

A military official told The Associated Press the bombing did not appear to be linked to anti-Western sentiment in Lebanon but was likely related to the Christian missionaries' activities.

Tripoli, Lebanon's second largest city, is home to Sunni fundamentalist groups. Qubba has a small Christian population.

It was the second attack on Christian evangelists since November, when an unidentified gunman killed an American missionary in southern Lebanon.

Bonnie Penner worked as a nurse at an evangelical center in Sidon, also a predominantly Muslim town. It remained unclear whether her killing was linked to rising anti-U.S. sentiment in the Middle East or to missionary work, which many Lebanese claim aims to proselytize Muslims.

Several explosions have ripped through American fast-food restaurants and a British cultural center in Tripoli and Beirut in recent months.

I had heard about this on CBN the 700 club news and on PBS news. Isn't it awful if it was because they were missionaries?.

Ghiz Family Prayer News - Summer 2004

Dear Partners in Prayer;

We thank God for you faithfulness in lifting us up in your prayers and support. Much has happened since we last sent you news as you will read.

Ain Zhalta Ministry
We thank God for a team of committed brothers and sisters with whom we serve together in Ain Zhalta. Rodrigue, Rabia and his wife Allice and I, meet regularly for planning and prayer. We have been energized by prayer times spent up near the Cedars overlooking Ain Zhalta before we head to the village.

Bible Study & Visitation
We have had great encouragements in doing Bible Studies with the “Blonde” family. There youngest son, who professed faith last year has been showing spiritual growth. We noticed his Bible had many underlined verses and comments on the sides. The father was neutral until something interesting happened: one day he had a vivid dream. An old man with a beard (he was a Christian & looked like a minister) presented him with a Bible and asked him to read it. The father replied, “I can’t read!” “Don’t worry”, he replied, “I will read to you and you follow me. I will teach you.” Then, he told him to pray. The father replied, “I am too busy working in the garden and have no time to pray.” The old man said, “In the midst of the garden, get down on your knees and pray there”! The father couldn’t sleep that night. We gave him the Gospels on tape and a Walkman and he's been repeatedly listening to them as he works in the garden. Rabia, who has been helping with the Bible Studies, didn’t disclose his Druze background until his 5th visit. They were shocked and amazed to know he was Druze like them. This summer the mother and another son (an Artist) came to a summer conference and heard a Gospel message. The artist son is showing deep interest as well in knowing Christ.

Pray for this whole family.
Summer Kids Camps We have not been able to have regular Kid’s Clubs. However, we have connected 20 kids and youth  to a camp that was held in a nearby Baptist Church in Ain Dara. They also attended a day camp run by a team of British youth workers. Many children enjoyed these events. Pray that they may be committed follower of  our Saviour, Jesus!

Families Ministry
We took the opportunity to invite Druze parents and their children to an evening church conference event in Naba Safa, this August . Around 60 people from Ain Zhalta joined us for supper and a message from God’s Word. The speaker turned out to be a pastor who lived in a Druze village. In his prior knowledge of his audience, he wisely preached a Gospel message taken from the Book of Job. Job is a greatly respected prophet for the Druze. People listened attentively as he preached on justification by faith, Jesus the mediator and eternal life through His name.

Middle East Conference - The World of Islam
I was involved in the coordination and planning of the Middle East Conference on Islam  for 4 months prior to the event. It was a two week conference from June 14-25. Colin Chapman (the well known teacher on Islamics who wrote “Whose Promised Land”), was one of our main lecturers. I was the Master of Ceremonies as well as a group discussion leader. I had 4 sessions, dealing with the topic “Church Planting among Muslims: Models and Methods. We had attendances from 40-60 people each day. There were students from, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and the US. The sessions were very intensive. I am sure it was a benefit to many and a challenge to stir us to reach Muslims.

Pastoring CBC (Community Baptist Church- Hadath)
This August I accepted the call to pastor an English church service in Hadath (close to our home in Beirut) that meets on Sunday nights. Community Baptist Church (fellow Canadians will love to know I am pastoring CBC!) began less than a year ago as a vision of brother Hikmat Kasouh (see photo). I got to know Hikmat at the Baptist Society and he asked me 4 months ago to take over, as he had to travel for 3 years to work on his doctorate in England. The attendants vary from 40-60 people, the majority of which are Lebanese young adults. Many of those who attend are zealous servants of the Lord serving in different ministries in Lebanon. I see this church as a means of reaching many Lebanese who enjoy worship in English. New people are always coming out, so it is a great place for Evangelism. I see this ministry complementing my goal to see Arab workers serving in the Middle East. It was especially exciting for me to be part of a baptismal service for a Druze man who became a believer in Christ through these meetings! He also got married to a Christian girl and the wedding was held in Ras Beirut Baptist Church!

Preaching and Teaching
Ever since we moved to Beirut we have had many opportunities for different ministries. I have preached in different churches and Maha has led some women meetings in our church. We have made friends with a neighboring family who have started a church with Druze who live near our home. They invited us to help them in a children's camp held at our kid’s school here. It's exciting to see the Lord raise up workers in different places in Lebanon. Pray for this young Druze Church.

Mobilizing Arabs
My desire to see Arabic nationals trained and mobilized for church planting is finally coming to reality. I have had some serious meetings with many other leaders who are developing a plan to make this happen. I have an important meeting this November where some major decisions will be made. Pray for this ministry and how God might use me to be a part of such an important work in the Arab World.

Celebrate Jesus â€" Lebanon & Syria
This summer hundreds of people attended worship, evangelistic celebrations that were held in Lebanon, Syria and Egypt. We were especially interested in the 2 day outreach event that was held in the city of Hama, Syria, because Maha's relatives live there. We went particularly to invite them to the event, but most of these people from traditional churches did not respond to the invitations. However, while inviting Maha’s cousin, two ladies happened to be visiting there. They showed immediate interest and came to the outreach celebration along with other women! These ladies were challenged by the Lord that night and prayed with counselors to accept Christ as their Saviour. The two women confided that it was not a coincident that we have met! At Hama celebration more Muslims than Christians attended this event, heard the Gospel, received Scriptures and prayed with counselors! Pray for effective follow-up of those who showed true interest.

Family Life and Summer Time
This June, Maha & I have celebrated our 10th anniversary together! This marked our 9th year of service in Lebanon. This summer we made sure to dedicate time to learn and be refreshed. Amazingly, Maha attended a weekend seminar by herself (with all our 4 kids) on doing children's ministry! I attended a seminar on Leadership which emphasized about being a servant leader. We went to Damascus and attended a 5 day seminar on the Family. Throughout the year, Maha took some refresher teaching workshops at a University. As well, she attended a credited semester of evening courses in pastoral Counseling at the Arab Baptist Theological Seminary which she greatly enjoyed. We will update you on our children in another letter.

Let us hear from you. Thanks for your prayers!

It is wonderful to hear inspiring news from this war-torn area.

Thanks Pat.

This is wonderful news.  I actually heard about this on CNN, believe it or not.  Its most unusual for CNN to give reports like this.
