Morning Devotional...

After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.                        Genesis 15:1

Abram had just been through some trying experiences--a famine in the land; the defection of his nephew Lot from the path of faith; the battle with the kings--but Abram had stood firm in his faith, unmoved by the swelling tide of circumstance.

It is "after these things," that God gave Abram this word of encouragement: Fear not. So it is as we tread this wilderness scene.

Often we face trial upon trial, but our God is aware of it, and just when we need it, He gives that renewing word from Himself--fear not!
                                                                  ~Wm. Burnett~

Though thy way be long and dreary,
eagle strength He'll still renew,
Garments fresh and foot unwearied,
tell how God has brought thee through.

Good morning to everyone.  The devotional this morning is very encouraging again.  I like the last line of the hymn tell how God has brought thee through.  It reminds me of some verses of scripture from 2 Corinthians:

"Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
"Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God."

When we think that witnessing for the Lord simply means telling everybody what God has done for us, it takes all of the toil out of the exercise (well, it does for me any way).

I hope everyone has a great day and I will see y'all later on.

Anthony.

There were a record number of posts I think last night, so I don't think I am going to be able to answer everyone.  Just to say it was great to read them all.

Welcome to Denise Rayney

It's great to see a new member joining in with us.  Hope you enjoy your stay here.

I did notice Sonja posting.  God bless you sister.  I hope you all manage to get a good night's sleep and look forward to hearing from you later on.

God bless.

Well .... I was just posting a really enlightening and interesting message when, all of a sudden, it was whisked away into cyperspace!    :'(

I really was the first one here but .... well, looks like ANTHONY got in while I was looking for my wonderful message (which shall ever more remain invisible to all y'all).  Hi ANTHONY!! ;D

Yesterday I fell asleep while watching the evening news and a phone call woke me.  I glanced at the clock as I answered and was really surprised that Nita would call so early in the morning.  It was 7:20  ???  It so happened to be p.m. though, not a.m.   I think I'm really losing it these daze.    :(

About my plumbing problems: I ended up calling Roto Rooter and the man found a place under the bathroom floor where a connection had "blown".  He said it was a small lake under the house where the water had been gushing.   :-\  The good news is that he said I could get in on the class action suit against the manufacturers of the polybutylane pipe and they'll repipe my house for free!  I'm going to see about it this morning.  (I finally figured what time of day it is).

I have a few things to do so I'll be back later ... Y'all take care, now y'hear?    ;)

Jane, now listen to your uncle Anthony, you ought to be in bed by now ;D ;D ;D

That plumbing problem sounds very nasty.  These things are incredibly frustrating and I hope you manage to get it all sorted out.

See ya later.

Good morning everyone.  Pat, I hope you're not too tired after your walk with us last night.  Geordie looked like he was enjoying himself!

Mieka, I think the greatest glory for us in Heaven will be to look upon the Face of our Saviour after trusting Him in blind faith here.  :D.

Janet, that was an interesting little analogy. I've seen some things like that before, and I think sometimes it helps people to put things in perspective.

Anthony-what's the latest update on college, things going any easier for you?  I will take a photo of my garden when it starts to bloom.  I planted bulbs, so they may be a while in growing.

Sonja, I am still praying for you and your family.  I hope you receive the comfort of God and His Word.

Well, I don't want to be late for work, I must run.  Praying blessings on your day, and strength for you Journey everyone.  Jen.

A devotional is a great way to start the day.

I to am a Baptist and it was once said that the anointing of oil would take place only if it was privately asked for and administered in the same way. A morning message explaining the anointing  does not seem to happen.

Must get ready for work and then this evening we are going to a baseball game in Toronto.   The tickets were $l.oo ea.  Toronto's attempt that we are a safe and friendly city.

Welcome Denise Rayney

Have a Great Day

Good morning!  and a big welcome to JOAN! We hope you will feel at home here and become a regular poster.

We have had our swim and now getting ready for the day's challenges.  I think a trip to Liberal is on the agenda, among other things.  I will stop to see Abby, as we got busy outdoors (burned more of those pesky tumbleweeds) and didn't get down to get her yesterday.

I wish you all a wonderful day with our loving Lord!

Hi everyone and a big welcome to Denise and Joan.

My day started off in an interesting way as about 5 am I felt the house shake a couple of times and thought there must have been an explosion.  On the way to coffee I learned from the radio that we had an 4.9 earthquake here in the Southeast at that time.  I had experienced several earthquakes in the late 60s when we lived in Alaska, but none since.  I don't think there was any damage from it, at least that I have heard about.

Janet, interesting piece on the Lord's Prayer.  It causes one to stop and think about what we are saying.

Sonja, glad to see that you are home and hope your son is feeling much better.

Jane, sorry to read of your water pipe problems and hope you can get the settlement from the class action suit.  I have lived in a new neighborhood where they had the plastic pipe problems.  Fortunately we sold the house and moved away without experiencing the problem.

Today is Calvin Cove day.

Larry

Jane, I can really empathize with you about the water pipe problems!  I don't think there is anything as frustrating and nasty and inconvenient as plumbing problems!

We are having to completely re-wire and re-plumb Darrel's rental because the people who lived in it last just wrecked things.  How anyone can do that much damage is beyond my comprehension!  It had to be deliberate! :-\ :( >:(

Anyway, I wish you the best of outcomes on this deal! :)

Good Morning> Pat thank you for the devotional.
I would like to give you a couple of testimonies on the annointing with oil and laying on of hands. My prayer partner, Inez, had an ugly looking dark growth on her arm. I anointed it with oil and laid my hand over and prayed for the Lored to remove it, two days later it was gone and the doctor asked her what happened, she told him that it was removed by the power of God. The doctor was going to remove it surgercally.
I smashed my finger inthe sliding glass door and it was cut enough that it should have had at least 3 stitches. I called my friend to come over and take me to the emergency, instead she annointed it with oil, prayed over it and bandaged it up, three days later you couldn't even tell I had smashed it except for the dent in my fingernail it was all healed up.
Praise the Lord for His healing power.

WELCOME TO JOAN GOOD TO SEE YOU JOINING US HERE AT CP

I will return later.
God Bless you all
Marilyn

Good morning everyone.  What a great devotional.

Janet ~ Your analogy about 'The Lord's Prayer" was done at my church as a skit one Sunday morning.  Just a lady on stage with a table, chairs, coffee cup, Bible and 'Jesus' on the PA system.  Really touching.  What got me was the lady was in my Bible Study and very shy...very seldom ever talked in Bible Study but she was great on stage acting.  She has performed several skits and acted in several Cantatas, as well.

Jane ~ When I moved here my tiny basement always had water on the floor.  Smelled yucky and musty.  The basement is only about 14' x 14' but Mom had her old electric range, the old sink and cupboard down there and that is where she did her canning.  Course, the furnace, freezer, hot water heater and water softener is there also.  Anyway, the range was gone and Jerry decided to get rid of the sink base since it was metal and rusted out.  Upon inspection, there was a water leak.  Hard telling how long it had been leaking but he fixed it and now I have a dry basement except when it is really raining out and it backs up from the field tiles.  Jerry is a great handyman!!!

Today is the day that Ivalou has lazer on her other eye.  The courtesy car is to pick us up around noon...so if I am to be ready, I had better move on.

JOAN!!!

We visit every day.  We talk about our children, grandchildren, local politics, aches and pains, sorrows, triumphs.  We discuss the Sunday sermon, our reading of scripture, a new book that touched or troubled us.  We post photographs.  We laugh a lot.  Sometimes we cry.  We make an effort to listen intently.

Our visits to CP is our holy time.  As we read each others posts and look at each others pictures, we posts our thoughts, hopes, and fears to each other and to God.  Our posts are a manifestation of Christ in the world.  Being part of the Body of Christ is not a private walk with Jesus; it is two or three people gathered together with Christ in their midst.  When we show compassion or 'listen' with love, we are expressing Christ.  We are being the church in the world.  Even though we aren't perfect and we don't have all the right answers, we experience Christs's presence in these times together.

Who needs someone to listen???!!!

Earthquakes, you ain't seen nothing until you have been in one of these California earthquakes. I have been in an 8.1, well 80 miles away from the 8.1, that was the one where the section fell out of the San Francisco Bay Bridge and the freeway in Oakland collapsed. Then there was the 6.5 in Hollister ca. and lots more. But glad tohear that no one was hurt, gotta be carefull when there a lots of tall buildings around.

I forgot to say welcome back to Sonja I put Zachery on my friends paryers list in Oklahoma as well.

Denise and Joan~ I'm sorry to be so remis in welcoming you to our cozy little gathering :-\  <I didn't see you come in!> ::)

I called about the class action suit re: the polybutylene pipe this morning and was told a couple other places to call and, finally, one of the plumbing companies here in town gave me the toll free number to call the company in Texas!  They also gave me a website I to check, where I should be able to access a claims form, etc.  The man said "You will find all the information you ever wanted to know and probably some you couldn't care less about"   ::)

Now ... If y'all will give me a few minutes I am going to try to get this matter taken care of.  I keep getting notifications whenever there's been a reply to one of the discussion's I'm watching.   Don't stop posting, tho! I'll just ignore my new mail for a while.   :P

Y'all take care now ... I'll be back d'rectly.

Yup, Pat,  I printed out the claim form that I need to mail but I'm stumped <for a while> because they want the date of the original plumbing installation and a copy of the title or first registration.  (Oh, I just noticed that or).  This is a manufactured home, so it is treated as a vehicle registration.  I can do this after all!    ::)  I made up a date for the original plumbing installation.    :-\

Well, I have a meeting this afternoon and I need to get ready, so I'll see y'all later!

Welcome Denise and Joan!!  I'm glad you're here.

As in any family, you'll find those who talk a lot...and those who tend to just read more and say less.
::)     Now, you can find a spot in either group, and make yourself comfortable.

And I don't dare make comment to every one who posted, so I'll be like Anthony, and just say Howdie, partners. hehe

In my Bible reading today, I sort of landed in the Beatitudes again.   Jesus' teaching was so very radical..and still is today.   Humility is strength..  Can you imagine how the world might be if humility was practiced in all aspects of interaction between humans?

Have a blessed rest-of-the-day, dear hearts.

Nita, the sermon on the Mount is a beautiful exhortation.  If the churches stuck to it we would probably see a revival.  Sometimes we think that the more noise we make, the more likelihood there will be of a revival coming, but it may be that the more we keep to the sermon on the mount, the more likelihood there is of it happening.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted."

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be  filled."

etc, etc.

If we could only keep these words at the forefront.

(Pardon me for letting my mind run on a bit.)

Thanks for highlighting the passage Nita.

We felt the earthquake here in Nashville, too. My dog jumped on the bed and pawed to awaken me. Then, daughter called from her all-night shift at the hospital - she says the 11th floor nurses watched the floor shift under their feet. She wanted to know the pets and I were okay.

Thankfully, none of my Tennessee friends were injured. I've heard from several.

Y'all have a good day.

Sonja, Abby says she is in both tap and ballet!  Now she wants to dance for me, so I'd better get ready to watch!

Pat, a manufactured home is also sometimes called a modular home.  They build them at the factory then move them to the lot where they will stand.  Sometimes you might see them on the road---in two halves!

Thanks for the info re "manufactured" homes.  I just haven't heard of that term in Canada but maybe it's here and I never knew.  The word "manufactured" means to me that it was "made" and all houses are made!  HAHAHAHA!

Let's sing!

THE OLD RUGGED CROSS (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/theoldruggedcross.mid)
(Click to hear music)

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.

Refrain
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary.

In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see,
For 'twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.

To the old rugged cross I will ever be true;
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He'll call me some day to my home far away,
Where His glory forever I'll share.

Ivalou got her other eye lasered.  The courtesy car brought us back and Ivalou was starved.  She hadn't eaten but a light breakfast this morning.  Soooo we went to Red Lobster.  I had the best coconut fried shrimp and baked potato.  And there biscuits.....yum yum!    So we go back next Tuesday for the cataract surgery.  Then Wednesday for the check-up.  Got to get her fixed up so she can see the sites going to Calgary and back in August.

My but all of you have been talkative today!  Whew!  Plus you had lots to say, too!  What time of day was the earthquake?  I didn't feel anything here but then I might have still been asleep since I slept in a little this morning.

Gotta go and get caught up!

Janet ~ The difference between a modular and a manufactured home, actually is a modular is manufactured and hauled on a trailer and unloaded and assembled on site!  A manufactured home is actiually a mobile home, like the old double wides. They pull them as you say on the roads in halves to the site and sit them on the foundation and fasten the two sides together after taking the axles off and the tongues!  They then become stationary and in some states are the same as a house and no longer classified as a mobile home! My mobile home even with the axles off and it does have the tongue off is still classified as a mobile home. I am glad I never wanted to drive truck bad enough to more than just very casually talk to National Mobile home movers about buying a tote and hauling mobile homes when I was young and senseless. (VBG) I am still senseless , but not so young any more.

Pat ~ It means manufactured as in a factory and not  made on the foundation. It comes with everything and is ready to move into in a short time frame.

Sonja:  It is good to see you back!  I hope that Zachery is doing well.

Anthony:  I could call the physical an annual check-up if that would help identify what I did yesterday.   :)

Welcome Denise and Joan!

Thank you for today's song, Pat.  It was an old favorite for my parents.

Well then, Jerry, we have several companies here who build the houses in a huge factory right near to where I live too.  One is Royal Homes and they are just superb homes.  No weather ever gets into them before they are put onto the foundations and lived in.  Carpet and all is installed at the factory.

I am so upset. I just was on the news a story about an abandoned horse they found that had been severly beaten and was 150 lbs under weight. How can people be so cruel to Gods creatures? That is so sinful. in Proverbs 12:10 it says "A righteous man has regard for the life of his beast."
The horse was in such back shape that they had toput it down.

Well, it HAS been a full day here.  I printed French Award certificates for Martha.  I also made birthday greetings for all the May birthdays at the Nursing home.  I visited an old friend who has become an invalid.  It was our time to take food to a lady who has been sick so Cornelia cooked and we delivered later this afternoon.

Marilyn, you are right about people who mistreat their animals.  It IS a crime here in Tennessee and now and then someone is prosecuted and spends some time in jail for abusing animals.
Prov 12:10  A righteous man regards the life of his animal, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.  (NKJ)

Pat, the back is still giving me trouble but it will get better.  It always has.  We will see if the doctor finds out anything with the MRI.  Thanks for asking but don't worry it will get better.  It always has.

Welcome to the new members.

Good to see everyone.  I hope you all have a good night's rest.  Many people around here felt the earthquake this morning but we did not.

--- Papa John    ;D

Cute, Jane.

I wish that we could have different smilies.

Some bulletin board software allows the addition of many but this one doesn't I don't think.
