JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Verse for Today...
"For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

Some News We Should Know About...
Why are so many Americans turning to Christian books?
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--Maybe it's 9/11. Maybe it's fear over the war in Iraq. Or perhaps Christian books are getting better at answering the spiritual questions of readers.   Whatever the reason, a recent Barna Research Group report that half of all Americans read Christian books and one-third purchase them comes as little surprise to Ken Stephens.

Morning Devotional...

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard,
                                                                            Psalm 19:1-3.

"The Trembling Earth"

Man is pleased to call the earth "Terra Firma" -- the firm ground. He feels secure when standing upon it. It is a term used frequently by seafarers. When they step off the ship and stand upon firm ground they feel safe, no longer threatened by death as they felt themselves to be while standing on the heaving deck.

But is the earth so firm??

Earthquakes, of which there have been quite a few recently, remind us that it is not. Earthquakes tell us that the giant sphere upon which we live is not invulnerable but can be shaken and rent like any other part of creation. Despite its size there is a power that can juggle it as a child shakes its rattle.

Earthquakes tell us that the earth is subject to decay

Earthquakes are but the death tremors of a creation cursed in consequence of man's sin.  "For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now."   Romans 8:22. That groaning is the groaning of death.

Earth shall not remain forever but shall pass away (a term we often use of death). "And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hand: They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail." Hebrews 1:10-12. (See also Matthew 5:18, 24:35; II Peter 3:10; Revelation 21:1)

Earthquakes are foretastes of the great and terrible day of the Lord

The end of the world shall be as one great world-wide earthquake. "See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven: Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven."  Hebrews 12:25-26.

In contrast to the shaking earth where men falsely feel safe there is the unshakeable refuge of the soul

"Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock."

"And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land."
             Matthew 7:24-25, Isaiah 32:2.

How will your place of refuge fare in the great and terrible day of the Lord?

Only one place can withstand the power of God's wrath and that place is the refuge He himself has prepared for sinners -- the Lord Jesus Christ, God's appointed Saviour for men.
~Rev. Ivan Foster of Northern Ireland

The Lord's our Rock, in Him we hide,
A shelter in the time of storm;
Secure, whatever ill betide:
A shelter in the time of storm.

Oh, Jesus is a rock in a weary land,
A weary land, a weary land;
Oh, Jesus is a rock in a weary land,
A shelter in the time of storm.

God is such a good Father and he has neat kids too.  :)

Now that you're here and all registered, I'm going to re-post your photos of Oregon again, Nita!  They are such wonderful photos.

Welcome Lhall and Iggy.

Hello everyone!  It was a busy day yesterday or for me today.  I can't wait for all these new people to start posting.

I had a fun day.  We grilled both lunch and dinner.  I love this warm weather.  I would at least like one day of stormy weather for the challenge on DPC though.  :-\

I will talk to ya all tomorrow.  I am getting a bit tired.

NITA!!!  There she is... my bestest friend!  Y'all need to know God put us together (all by Himself) and I love my dear sister in the Lord.   Pat ~ You just seem to lock up early for us here on the west coast, but that's just okay ... we always know how to get in here through the back door or the window or just about any place we can manage...   :)

God is soooo good!  I love Him and how he loves us individually and "for no reason at all"  just 'cuz He does.  That is sometimes (most of the time...nearly always) hard to fathom...why/how He could love me when I am so undeserving.   But HE DOES.  He has no strings attached.  His love is unconditional.  We so often think we need to "do" something for Him to show Him how much we love Him or maybe we think He will be pleased by our works.... He isn't!  All He really wants is US.  His love is unconditional.  He is not impressed with what we can DO... He just loves us... Not "I love you because..."  It's just "I love you" period!  Once we yield to Him and become totally submitted to His will, He will fill us with Himself and then--Christ in us--He will work through us and the work done is all HIM none of us.  I don't know if that makes any sense to anyone but I know God is my all and my total focus is on Him ... He understands.   :)

I will have to get to  bed soon, but I just had to stop by and say g'night to y'all.  I love each of you ... because God loves each of us.   :)

Y'all take care... I'll be back.

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Well, it looks like I missed a lot of excitement yesterday.  I didn't get the chance to get on in the evening at all, we have a family Bible study on Thursday nights.  It went very well last night.  We all had something to share from the quiet times throughout the week.  We have a prayer meeting at the end so that each family member's needs get prayed for.  Anyway, here I am running on again.  I just popped in to wish everyone a good morning and a wonderful day.  I have to get ready to go to work.  God bless you all.  Jen.

Pat

Good Morning!

Have a great day at work today, Mercychild!  Great to see you here today...

Nice to be able to welcome yet another new member...Welcome Andrew!!

It's a nice day here in Guelph.  The sun is shining melting all our snow and the temperature isn't too low so maybe we'll have a nice day here.

God bless you all as you complete your daily chores.

Hi, friends,

I've overslept - so it's "hi and bye" in the same breath!

Tonight a group of us in Tennessee are meeting with our friend Margret Walbeck from South Africa. I look forward to the dinnertime conversation.

Y'all have a good day.

Ruth Ann

By the way, I had a puzzling message saying I needed to input my user name, yet the header shows that I'm recognized. Any suggestions?

Hi everyone.  Just back from coffee at the Senior Center with my retired men friends.  I have to leave in a few minutes to attend our monthly Volunteer meeting at our County Senior Center for our SeniorNet Computer Learning Center.

Pat, an excellent devotional this morning.  It is wonderful to know with certainty that we have the solid rock of Jesus Christ as our foundation.

Let me offer a big welcome from Georgia to those joining us since I posted yesterday.  This is just wonderful to see people in Christian fellowship on this site.

Ruth Ann, please say hi to Margret and Paul Walbeck from me.  I had the opportunity to meet them at a SeniorNet Bash (meeting) we had in Atlanta several years ago.  I know you will enjoy your visit with them.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.  I will try to get back later.

Larry

Papa John

           Good morning,

Larry, it seems to me that you are busy every day which is good.

Ruth Ann, I wish we would be at that meeting tonight.  Tell Margret  hello for me too.  I met them in Atlanta as did Larry a few years ago.

It is still to cool here this morning for swimming.  I think we are going to the store after while to do a little grocery shopping.  Monday our daughter, Beth and her husband, James, will arrive here and stay all next week.  I hope the weather is better then.

Pat, a good devotional this morning.  The only safe foundation is Christ who gave his life to save us.  Unfortunately so many are building their house on the sand.

--- Papa John    ;D

I can't seem to keep up with all the newbies!!!  So, hopefully, this will do for all.

We visit every day.  We talk about our children, grandchildren, local politics, aches and pains, sorrows, triumphs.  We discuss the Sunday sermon, our reading of scripture, a new book that touched or troubled us.  We post photographs.  We laugh a lot.  Sometimes we cry.  We make an effort to listen intently.

Our visits to CP is our holy time.  As we read each others posts and look at each others pictures, we posts our thoughts, hopes, and fears to each other and to God.  Our posts are a manifestation of Christ in the world.  Being part of the Body of Christ is not a private walk with Jesus; it is two or three people gathered together with Christ in their midst.  When we show compassion or 'listen' with love, we are expressing Christ.  We are being the church in the world.  Even though we aren't perfect and we don't have all the right answers, we experience Christs's presence in these times together.

Who needs someone to listen???!!!

Good Morning> How is everyone this fine morning. It is rather windy here in the Mojave desert of California. 51 F. It is supposed to be 85 today.

Great devotional Pat. Matt. 7:24-25 has spoken to me quite a few times. Just before I changed churches  1 1/2 yrs. ago it jumped out of page at me and was an anwer to prayer for me. The other church did fall.

We sure had a lot of people join us yesterday. I wonder where they all came from.

Hey All you new people, tell us about yourselves, how did you find us ?and where are you from.?  You are welcome to go over to the testimonial pages and read about those of us who are there.

Well I am going to look around here and check out the links Pats has posted.

BTW Mercychild what a wonderful family you have.  God belss you Paulette for raising your children is such a way that all love God. A terrific example of good parenting.

Pat ~ What a wonderful devotion.  Without Christ, we have no foundation.

Nita ~ So glad you found us.  We are looking forward to seeing many posts.

Sonja ~ It is warming up today.  Probably will mow the grass this afternoon after taking out a loan to fill up all the gas cans... ::)

Jane ~ I am sure someone will let me know how to do your signature.  I think someone said on SrNet but I wasn't into PSP then.  ???

Jen ~ That would be wonderful...to have a family Bible study and prayer meeting.  There are advantages to bigger families.  I can only imagine how close all of you are.

Ruth Ann ~ I wish I had known earlier that Margret and Paul were stateside....I would have driven to Nashville to see them.  If you see this before you see them....tell Margret that Ali said....MEOW!!!!!

Larry ~ You do seem to be busy but also seems your life is in balance.  That is great and God is good.

Papa John ~ It is warming up here as I said above.  Probably a nice day to get outside.  The sun is shining very brightly.  That makes one want to get outside.

Jerry will be coming over today...I don't know what time.  I have some things to do in the house and he likes to potter around outside.  We need to go get some gas in the cans for the mowers and then, probably will mow this yard.  I have 'Easter' grass.  You know, when there are spots of grass that is three times higher than the rest... ;D.  I like to mow...my quiet time to think and pray.

Good morning, and a big WELCOME to our new members!  We all hope you will feel at home and enjoy the fellowship here as much as we do!

Pat, that was a very thought-provoking devotional this morning.  "On Christ the solid rock I stand; all other ground is shifting sand, all other ground is shifting sand."  Since we are now watching the prophecies of Revelations being fulfilled before our very eyes, it is imperative for us to look up, to Him who alone can save us.

I enjoyed the Creation Moments, and the Photo too!  I'm really curious/interested in those giant squids, and noticed there are several other photos at that site of them.  They are so mysterious!  Of course, I love the underwater world.......wouldn't want to meet one of those guys, though, I don't think! :o

Jane, I enjoyed your comments so much.  Yes, you are right about God loving us "just because" and not being impressed with our feeble attempts to do works for Him.  Some of these lessons are not easy to learn!

Oh, Jen!  How I wish I had grown up in a family that took time to study the Word and pray together!  Even more, I wish I had raised my own family that way......but we all  walk in the light that we have, and so now I am trying to be a Godly influence in the lives of my grandchildren.  God bless you and your family!

Nita!  Good to have you back!

Larry, you must be one of God's favorite kids!  (Of course, each one of us is! ;))  God bless you, and I so hope to meet you and Pat sometime.   Of course, I want to meet Pat S. and Papa John, and Jane and Janice and Etta sue and Jerry and..........well, you get the picture! ::)

I have lots to do today, because tomorrow I have about four things I have to attend, one right after the other, and I have to be ready to hit the deck running! :)

Talk to you all later.......oh, HI, Karma and Sonja.  Where is our Cindy these days?

Good Morning!
Welcome to all the new members, I hope you will join right in and tell us about yourselves and your walk with the Lord.

Pat, a great devotional today.  What would we do without a foundtion - we would surely be washed away in the floods of this world.  "How Great Thou Art, God!"

Jane, you are so right about the love of God!  I heard Dr. Stanley say one time that there is nothing we can do that will cause the Lord to love us any more, and likewise there is nothing we can do that will make Him love us any less!  What a loving God we serve.  However, I believe that he expects us to live such a life that will bring glory to Him.   His mercies are new every morning, and we need to come before Him daily.

You all have a great day!
Love, Janice

PS, have any of you noticed how many of us have names that start with J?  Jane, Janet, Jen, Janice, Jeanne, (Papa) John, Jerry, Judy, Jissup, and Joyce.  Most of all – JESUS!  He is here with us.
I hope I didn't miss anyone.
This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.   Ps 118:24

Janice, my middle name is Joan!!!

so...

Thank you so much Pat for getting us going again with our new home. I know you must have worked hard long hours getting it all painted, decorated, and furnished for all of us I just want to give you a great big HUG and tell you THANK YOU.
We have a special place here where we can meet each day for coffee, bible reading, the devotions, prayers, etc. Plenty of good Fellowship and LOVE to be shared with all who join us.  I know my days would be very dull and I would be in low spirits if I did not have the love and fellowship of all of you here. Friends and Family. We all have the same Father and Brother. Oh my how we love our Lord.

Thanks again Pat, and Ian.

Nita

Good morning again.  I've been sitting, reading the Bible and listening to my wonderful worship music.  The Presence of the Lord has been so precious in my home the last two days.  I know He is with us always, but there are times when He manifests Himself....and oh, I need that.  It feels as though the Lords arms are around me and I'm absorbing His own strength.

Isn't our Father good??

.......and, you know....Nita is shortened from Juanita, so I'm a "J" too. :)

We are having some sunshine at the moment, but more rain is on the way they tell us.  I'm looking forward to sitting out for morning coffee...won't be much longer.

Welcome to all the newcomers.  I'm not actually new myself, but it's been a long time since I've been here.  Have a glorious day.

Hey there!! Now this is REALLY Friday, April 11 for me.    :)  It also happens to be my youngest daughter's 42nd birthday!   Yup, that's my baby!  ;D  And, would you believe it?  She's a grandmother!   :o  Autumn Rose is her 2 year old granddaughter.  I have a hard time even believing that one!   ::)

I had a really neat phone call from Nita last night and I always enjoy talking with her; listening to her; sharing with her all of the ways God is blessing each of us.  Draw Me Nearer is my prayer and one desire.

Indeed His mercies are new every morning.  I love the words to that great song of the church: "Great Is Thy Faithfulness .... morning by morning, new mercies I see.  All I have needed Thy hand hath provided.  Great is Thy faithfulness Lord unto me!"

God is GOOD -- ALL the time!

Y'all have a wonderful day in the Lord and I'll be back later.

P.S.  I almost forgotted   :-[   RUTH ANN is going to have dinner with Margret and Paul Walbeck!   :D  Please tell them a great big HELLO from the Jaywalker!  I've been priveleged to be with them several times, and they are fantastic people!  I first met them in Atlanta, then in Arizona, and then in Pennsylvania ... Y'see this is "on the road again" Jaywalker from SN.  Although I've since parked the car and am staying home ... happy and contented!    ;D

Draw Me Nearer
(Click to hear music)

Author:  Fanny J. Crosby, 1820-1915
Musician:  William H. Doane, 1832-1915

I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.

Refrain

Draw me nearer, nearer blessèd Lord,
To the cross where Thou hast died.
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessèd Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the power of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.

Refrain

O the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend!

Refrain

There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.

Refrain

Wow!  My name doesn't contain a single "J"--I feel so left out!   ;D ;D ;D

We had a fairly short meeting this morning, which is always good.  I try to stay busy but have to balance it with what seems like a lot of rest as don't have much stamina.  I have had my little afternoon snooze and now it is time to do my Bible reading for today and pick up on some other projects.

Sonja, thanks for agreeing to help Pat with the photography section of our discussions.  I know you will do a fine job.

Thank you, MS PAT, for the words (and music) for that song!   :)

My young grandson is leaving for the Army basic training on Monday.  This evening, his mother Joy, is having a family and friends gathering at their house and has invited Jean's two girls--his cousins--to come over.  I am really praying that they will be able to get there because they already have a brother in Iraq.  It is hard for this grandma to realize that these two families live such a short distance apart and never see each other.  It all goes back to the events, attitudes, and emotions surrounding Jean's death.  Please help me pray that the riff will be mended and everyone can get together to support the young men who serve our country.

I received an ecard from Bryan today and...as have the others he's sent...it made me cry.   :'(  These are tears of pride and love, though.  I am so very proud of what the Lord has done in him.  I just have to share the moment with you.  Take a look and see why I'm so proud of "My Guy Bry"
