Morning Devotional...

Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
1 Peter 2:24

This verse has been used by God to bring the assurance of salvation to many people. It answers to the question, "Why the cross?"

The Lord Jesus in His coming to Calvary dealt with this outstanding need of humanity, their sinfulness. Only He could do it, for no one else was sinless. He bore our sins in His death on the cross that we might "live unto righteousness."

He "was delivered for our offenses, and was raised again for our justification" (Rom. 4:25).

Is He your Saviour?

I have neither grace nor merit--
guilty sinner is my name;
But, believing, I inherit life
which only Christ could claim.

Janice

Hello friends, I am in Amarillo, TX using my son-in-law's computer.

Earl was admitted to the coronary care unit ICU at a hospital here today.  He has congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and has had a heart attack.  The doctor said those who have diabetes can have silent heart attacks.  (He didn't feel it).  They are draining off the fluid buildup from his lungs etc, and will work at getting his heart back in rhythm, and he will have a heart cath tomorrow.  We will be here several days.

Thank you for your prayers.
Love in Jesus,
~Janice
This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.   Ps 118:24

:( Oh My Ms Janice, this is ascare to have happen.  :-[ I hope YOU are getting rest I know it will be hard for now. I will pray for both of you tonight. Please let me know how Mr Earl is doing for the next days. I will continue to pray each day.  :-\ :-[

 ??? Mr Jerry........

You have not make a post for a very long time.   ???
Is it because others might see you have a rabbit ears?

I sometimes have a shame for my ears. These make me happy to have mine.  :P

;D  (I love you Mr Sowers).  ;D

Ruth Ann Bice

Janice, I'll be praying for both of you. Hopefully they can get things taken care of shortly and get him stabilized.

Yes, each year my doctor does a special heart test because I, too, am diabetic. It is to let them know if there's hidden damage.

Jerry, I love your new photo! Mieka, I love your work - you made me giggle tonight.  ;)

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Anthony

Before I say anything I must congratulate Meika on capturing Jerry so well.  It's a pity that we couldn't get a photo of someone moving the ears to get a better reception though ;D

Great shot Meika!!

Anthony.

Anthony

Good morning to everyone on Christian Photographers.  I do trust that everyone will have a great day today.

Welcome Corpulhicks
I do pray that you will settle in with us all and feel comfortable enough to tell us a bit about yourself.  I look forward to getting to know you better.

Ruth, it sounds like you had a very busy weekend with Mother's day, but it is nice to see the family during these times isn't it?  Hope the rest of the week goes well.

Etta Sue, congratulations on the great great neice.  What a joyful occasion for all of your family and the baby seems a healthy weight.  God bless the little one and the parents.

Marilyn, how strange that they sent you a different camera to what you ordered.  I hope you have lots of fun with it.  I am sure Sonja will help you with it if she knows the make and mode.

Jeanne, it is good that you decided to be ethically correct with regards to your operating system.  A little leaven can leaven the whole lump.  It's a good witness putting this up on the forum.

Pat, I am glad that you have had another Mother's day today.  It must be nice to make the event last for a few days.  The hanging basket sounds great.

Ruth Ann, thanks for the link to the rabbits ears, I couldn't get it to work though but that doesn't matter because Meika has provided us with a photographs.

Hi Marilyn and Sonja, (Marilyn, it was good to get that message from Gilbert.)

Karma, how can you compete with a nation that gets out of bed six hours before you do  8) 8) 8) (p.s. Now if I had worn your hat with the glasses I would have looked cool ;D)

Janice, I was so sorry to hear that your  husband is so ill.  How devastating for the family.  It is good that we have an Almighty God to bring our difficulties to though.  I am sure that all of the group will be praying in the coming days.

Anthony.

Anthony

The devotional was so great this morning.  To think that we do not have to pay for our sins in any way.  So many religions seem to be trying to do this.  Thanks for putting the devotional together Pat.

If Larry looks in today - the Lord bless you brother.  We have praying for you through yesterday and today.  We trust that all is well with you.

Anthony.

Judy McKenna

Haven't been to CP for a couple of days, but before I look back, and see what all I've missed; I must tell you Janice, that this morning when I have my devotions, I will pray for Earl.

I won't forget to pray for you and the family either Janice!

Anthony:  Good picture of you!.. Pretty cool lookin' Brit there Anthony!! ;D

Meika:  Love Jerry's new picture!  Should have been on for Easter!

Etta Sue:.. a great great niece?? ..wow., you must have a large family.  Do you have family reunions? ???
"I am too blessed to be stressed".

Judy McKenna

Jane:  How well I remember baby pictures of Autumn Rose.  I remember commenting (along with so many others on S.Net) on her lovely name.

BTW , does she still have those chubby and rosey cheeks?  You should put that picture here in photos so the friends here could see what I mean by "those chubby cheeks!"...so cute! :)
"I am too blessed to be stressed".

Judy McKenna

Hmmm, now I'm a "Full Member". :D.. can someone explain this though... I'm at 102 posts for the last three posts... shouldn't it be 105 posts? (here I go again with another dumb question)...!! ??? :-\
"I am too blessed to be stressed".

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  First of all I want to thanks you all for remembering me in your prayers yesterday as I had the angiogram done.  One of our ministers visited with me, prayed with me and read the scriptures before the procedure.

It was a fairly quick procedure as there was nothing they could do with what they found.  My 5 stents in the bypass are 100% blocked so in essence they are gone.  There is still some bloodflow in the original artery that was bypassed 15 years ago.  God has looked after me in that I haven't had another heart attack when that site closed.  My heart is weak.

The doctor changed my medicine dosage, took me off one of the heart medicines and gave me another.  A little after 8 pm last night I was allowed to come home.  The doctor told me to do what I felt able to do.

I am also going to have a series of treatments called EECP, which is a noninvasive, outpatient proedure to improve perfusion in areas of the heart deprived of adequate blood supply.  As I understand it, after talking to someone at one of the clinics, you take 35 treatments by going 5 days a week for 7 weeks with each treatment lasting an hour.

Janice, glad to hear that Earl is where he can get the care he needs.  Hope they have some warm blankets for him in the cath lab as that has to be about the coldest place in the hospital.  Getting the fluid off will undoubtedly make him feel a lot better.

Pat, thank you for the explanation on the devotional yesterday.  I really wasn't trying to point out a typo but thought I might be missing something.

It was nice to read of the Mother's Day activities of so many of our folks.

Joan, sure hope Truett is feeling better today.

Marilyn, that is a wonderful praise report.  Hope your finger is better today and doesn't get infected.  I will be looking forward to seeing some pictures from your new camera.

Mieka, that was certainly a good picture of Jerry.   ;D

Sonja, that message from your son is certainly a keeper.

Ruth Ann, don't think I have ever had strep throat but know it is not something to fool around with and that it is very unpleasant.  Hope you are well soon.

Jeanne Lee, sure glad to hear you didn't experience any problems in installing Windows XP.  I think you will enjoy it.

I also want to extend a warm welcome to Corpuhicks.  Look forward to your postings.

This has gotten long and I haven't mentioned everyone but assure you all that I have read all of your postings.

Marilyn

Good Morning. It is 65 degrees f. here already this morning and cloudy. It is supposed to be up to 92 today. That's the weather report from the Mojave desert.

Pat Good Devotional this morning. I can't ewven imagine the pain and suffering that our Lord went through on the cross, taking upon himself ALL of our sins and ALL of our sickness and disease. Excruciating pain and suffering.

Mieka, that's a great photo of Brother Jerry with his Rabbit ears.  ;D ;D

I'll be back later.

CORPLHICKS!!

We visit every day.  We talk about our children, grandchildren, local politics, aches and pains, sorrows, triumphs.  We discuss the Sunday sermon, our reading of scripture, a new book that touched or troubled us.  We post photographs.  We sing.  We laugh a lot.  Sometimes we cry.  We make an effort to listen intently.

Our visits to CP is our holy time.  As we read each others posts and look at each others pictures, we posts our thoughts, hopes, and fears to each other and to God.  Our posts are a manifestation of Christ in the world.  Being part of the Body of Christ is not a private walk with Jesus; it is two or three people gathered together with Christ in their midst.  When we show compassion or 'listen' with love, we are expressing Christ.  We are being the church in the world.  Even though we aren't perfect and we don't have all the right answers, we experience Christs's presence in these times together.

Who needs someone to listen???!!!

Marilyn ~ Great that you got your new camera.  Have fun with it.  Learn all about it and click away!  :D

Jeanne ~ Glad you are legit now.  I am still on Windows 98.  It works for me so I probably won't change until it breaks.  ;)

Pat ~ So happy that you had an extended Mother's Day.  Sure makes you feel good to feel loved.  :)

Ruth Ann Bice ~ Yep, those are rabbit ears.  Boy, did I open a can of worms!!  These young uns and ferriners don't know what rabbit ears are!!   ::)  I have rabbit ears on the TV in here and the one in the bedroom.  I pray that you are feeling better today with your strep throat.

Janice ~ I feel for you.  Feel what you are going through.   :'( Keep thinking positive.  Be strong and draw comfort from God.  I am so thankful that God is in your heart.  I will have Earl and you in my prayers.

Mieka ~ I love your rabbit ears on Jerry.  I was trying to do something like that last evening but couldn't figure out how to do it.  You did a great job!!!  He will get a big laugh out of it.

Anthony ~ Good to see you this morning.  Uh, afternoon.   ???

Judy McKenna ~ Well, really, even my immediate family hasn't all been together since Mom passed away 2 years ago.  But since us three kids live so close, we do get to see nieces and nephews throughout the year.  We keep saying we are going to have Christmas in July back in the woods and all are invited but we haven't even done that.  But all of us take comfort in knowing if we need someone, any one of them would be here.   :-*

Larry ~ You gave us good news and bad news.  Not the greatest but at least, you will get some treatments to improve your condition since they can fix the condition.  You know we are all sending up prayers for you.   :-*

Today, it is bright and sunny with a cool 60°F.  A little windy.  But I have to get the mower started and mow the yard since rain is predicted tomorrow.  Sorry, Mieka, but us people in the midwest have to keep our yards mowed and that is a priority in the summer.  Keeps us out of trouble.

Larry~Wow, sounds like God has been taking care of you.  Why can't the doctors go in and fix those arterys?  You would think they could do something as advanced as they are.  Glad to here everything went ok.

Good morning to the rest of ya all.  I will be back.

Larry, I am so thrilled to see you posting this morning!  I just told my husband about an hour ago, that I am praying for you, that your procedure went well.  It doesn't sound like great news, but at least you know where you stand, and the doctors can decide the best course of action.  I pray you have more years here with us, to exalt the name of Jesus.  God bless you, my brother, you are so special to us.

Mieka  thank you for the giggle today------Jerry looks good in pink, doesn't he? ;D ;D ;D

Oh, Janice, how tough for you and Earl!  Prayers will continue for your family..........  I hope there are many around you to minister to you both physically and spiritually during these hard days.  Our love is with you, dear friend.

WELCOME, CORPLHICKS!

Ruth Ann, I pray that nasty strep is conquered in short order!  We are praying for you!

I know it is not mother's day, but I thought this was so cute.

Somebody said it takes about six weeks to get back to normal after you've had a baby ... somebody doesn't know that once you're a mother, "normal," is history.

Somebody said you learn how to be a mother by instinct ... somebody never took a three-year-old shopping.

Somebody said being a mother is boring .. Somebody never rode in a car driven by a teenager with a driver's permit.

Somebody said if you're a "good" mother, your child will "turn out good"...somebody thinks a child comes with directions and a guarantee.

Somebody said "good" mothers never raise their voices ... somebody never came out the back door just in time to see her child hit a golf ball through the neighbor's kitchen window.

Somebody said you don't need an education to be a mother ... somebody never helped a fourth grader with his math.

Somebody said you can't love the fifth child as much as you love the first ... somebody doesn't have five children.

Somebody said a mother can find all the answers to her child-rearing questions in the books ... somebody never had a
child stuff beans up his nose or in his ears.

Somebody said the hardest part of being a mother is labor and delivery ...somebody never watched her "baby" get on the bus for the first day of kindergarten ... or on a plane headed for military "boot camp"

Somebody said a mother can do her job with her eyes closed and one hand tied behind her back ... somebody never organized seven giggling Brownies to sell cookies.

Somebody said a mother can stop worrying after her child gets married ... somebody doesn't know that marriage adds a new son or daughter-in-law to a mother's heartstrings.

Somebody said a mother's job is done when her last child leaves home ... somebody never had grandchildren.

Somebody said your mother knows you love her, so you don't need to tell her ... somebody isn't a mother.

I wish to pray for EVERYONE today. It seem there are SO many with troubles this day.

Mr Hanna, it warms my heart to see you here today so soon.

Ms Cami I hope you are well today.

Ms Janice I hope you did get some rest, and I will pray again today at the chapel.

I have a question today of the devotional.

This verse has been used by God to bring the assurance of salvation to many people. It answers to the question, "Why the cross?"
I undarstand why so many Christians love the cross. It is symbolic, yes? It is a remind of Jesus and all he has done.
How is it decided when these things are or not a Idols?
Some have a star to remind them of all that is Holy.
Some have a fish to remind them of creation.
Some a Buddha, some a golden cow.
Some kiss the cross and pray to the cross.

If these "idols" are NOT the God, but they are the remind of the God, are they then ok to treasure? When is it wrong?

The fish symbols are not something we worship.  I have one on the back of my van.  What I am saying to people is I believe that God created us.

Bowing down and worshiping anything other then God is wrong.  Even idolizing an actor or actress is wrong.

I just want to say that I do not idolize any of these things you have mentioned.  And I don't believe anyone should.

Sonifo

Mieka
I guess you could say the same for the bible then, Right?
I modified my last message.  Please go back and read.  :D

mieka

Of course I undarstand the Bible is the Word of God, But what about the cross? it is worship by many Christians.

(I have a fish too on my car)  ;D

Sonifo

How is a church supposed to stand out amongs the other buildings?  When you are driving down the road and get frustrated because you are late and things just aren't going your  way, and you see a cross or a fish on the back of someone car.  Do you not stop and think oh ya I am a christain and should act like a christian? I should be patient and kind.  I say a little prayer to God not to the fish or cross.  They are just reminders and not to be worshiped.

Sonifo

I think you must be talking about Cathlics who worship the cross or kiss it. Something like that.  I have even seen them bow down before Mary, Jesus' mom, but  I am not sure.  I know their religion is so much different then mine.  I really don't know a whole lot about other religions other then my own.  Sorry I can't help you there.

Jerry L. Sowers

Janice ~ I am sorry to hear Earl has had a heart attack! I have had conjestive heart failure and the last time I had an EKG, the doctor said I had had a heart attack. I have never been told that before so it must have happened like Earls. Silent. I will remember him and you in prayer!

Mieka ~ Not everyone catches my good side as you did. Thank you. Now everyone knows, I do really have rabbit ears. I haven't posted much because I have been busy and by the time I read all the posts it is getting late so I haven't been taking notes to post!
I love you too! I am glad you are my friend as well as Sister In Christ!

Anthony ~ I think I will use the photo Mieka posted as my signature picture (VBG)

Larry ~ I am sorry to hear that they can't help with the blockage at this time. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that God will help you and guide the doctors in finding a precedure that will help.

My understanding of the Fish symbol is to remind us we are to be the fishermen of people for God!

But you undarstand my question then, yes? I do see many Christians worship the cross. but if it is only a reminder of Jesus.... then it is ok?

I have a Buddah in my room today, but I am a Christian. I talk to this Buddah as one would talk to a mother nature. I know it is not a God, it is a stone. But is it wrong if I know it is not a God? Today I have only 1 God - he is I AM.  ;D

My question is the cross???

Mr Sowers:  I think I will use the photo Mieka posted as my signature picture (VBG)

I'm really enjoying the conversation between you, Sonja, and Mieka.

Mieka, here's two verses that might help you...  We as Christians do not bow down or kiss or worship anything manmade.  We only worship our Lord and Saviour.  Most of us maybe will kneel by our bed or just sit in our chair and close our eyes to talk to our Heavenly Father.  Our kids when they were young said that we closed our eyes so that we weren't distracted by seeing man-made items while praying to God!  I thought that was a nice explanation!

Leviticus 19:4 says, "Do not turn to idols, nor make for yourselves molded gods: I am the LORD your God."

and Leviticus 26:1 says, "You shall not make idols for yourselves; neither a carved image nor a sacred pillar shall you rear up for yourselves; nor shall you set up an engraved stone in your land, to bow down to it; for I am the LORD your God."

Oh, little Mieka!  You are such a deep thinker, and you
ask the most insightful questions!  Bless you, you keep us on our toes!

Mieka, anything can become an idol to us, if we put it ahead of God.  While the symbols of the Christian faith, such as crosses, fish, etc. are good, in that they remind us of what Jesus did for us on the cross, they could become an idol, or a substitute for true belief.  Anyone can buy and wear a cross, but if they have not asked Jesus to forgive their sins and come to live in their heart, it is only an empty, meaningless symbol.

I think we must be careful to always look to God, and to praise and thank Him for sending Jesus to pay the penalty for all our sins by giving freely His precious life on the cross.  We must never allow that to become just routine, and not deeply appreciate it.

Even our possessions, such as a car, or a house, or even food, can become idols in our lives, if we think more of them than we do of Jesus.  He must always be held in FIRST place in our hearts.

When Aaron made the golden calf in the wilderness and the Israelites worshipped it, God was very angry, and punished them severely.  It should always be a lesson to us, not to allow idols in our lives.

I'm not sure why you think many Christians "worship" the cross??  I don't know of any who do this.  We respect the cross, because it reminds us that it was on a cross that Jesus died for our sins, so that we may one day live in heaven with Him.  I surely hope no Christian really "worships" the cross!

That you talk to a stone Budda bothers me, but I will defer to someone else to explain to you about that.

I hope this helps to answer your questions, Mieka.  I am sure others will also have things to say on this subject.
Hugs to you!
My book Rising Above available at JanetDamon.com

Sonifo

For myself I do not even have a cross in my house.

I think it is wrong to talk to the cross like it is God.  I also think it is wrong to talk to the cross as if it is not God.  It's just not healthy. ;D

Do I think it is right to talk to your buddah?  I should ask first why do you want to talk to a statue that isn't real?  I hope I am not coming across to strong or mean, because my that isn't my intentions.  ;D

Maybe someone else with more knowledge in the department can help!

Anthony

Meika, your questions are very thought provoking.  Personally I don't have any symbol at all in my home or on my person.  God is an invisible God and I don't feel that I need anything to remind me of His presence - I know that He is with me because He has promised that He would be with me, so - I don't have any sign or symbol to remind me of anything.

The fish sign is slightly different because it was used by the early church during their terrible times of being persecuted.  They could not openly tell people that they were christians, so they used to wear the fish symbol so that other disciples could recognise them.  I don't have any fish symbol, but I would be prepared to have one in my car or something.  I would not pay any heed to it, but it would tell other believers that I am a christian.

It is a tough question and other people  may have different opinions, but I personally feel that we should have a faith that is strong enough to rely upon the promises that God has given in His word without feeling a need to remind us that God is with us by wearing a cross or hanging a cross on our wall at home, or decorating our churches with crosses.  We would never use such decorations in the church that I attend.

I am willing, of course, to listen alternative opinions.

Anthony.

Pat

Janet, that's a great post!

QuoteAnyone can buy and wear a cross, but if they have not asked Jesus to forgive their sins and come to live in their heart, it is only an empty, meaningless symbol.

This is just so true and I dislike so very much seeing a person who obviously doesn't love my Saviour wearing a huge cross hanging from one of his ears!  :o   In this case, it's meaningless.

Anyway, I must dash.  See you all when I get back.

Anthony.

mieka

This is a very much a help to me Ms Janet, because you say it as "I" believe it to be.

But I still see MANY Christians who bow down to a cross. And they carv and rear it as a sacred pillar, yes?
is it not what they are ask to NOT do?  ???

Ms Pat, this is why I ask this question. You shall not make idols for yourselves; neither a carved image nor a sacred pillar shall you rear up for yourselves; nor shall you set up an engraved stone in your land, to bow down to it; for I am the LORD your God."

Pat

Anthony, I feel strongly as you do.

But at the same time, I won't rebuke someone else for wearing a cross pin or necklace.  It's just that I don't.  I know that all don't feel as I do.   I just don't wear anything like this.    When in Washington, DC many years ago, we did see many poor people who didn't seem to know any better bowing down and praying to Mary's statue and crying aloud!!  This will do no one any good at all.

Some people think that they need to pray to Mary to get to God.  But it says in the New Testament "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;" so no mediator is needed.  We can go right to Jesus Christ Himself and commune with Him.  And I think that's wonderful!

Janet

Well, Mieka, those must be Catholics, then, if they really do bow down to the cross, carry it around and seem to worship it.  Now, I know many Catholics are Christians, and I am not coming against them, but I do not agree with what they believe, regarding the Virgin Mary, praying the rosary, etc.  I know that they used to be told not to read the Bible, that they could not understand it and that the priests would read it for them and tell them what they need to know.  I am very glad that we are encouraged, and exhorted to read the Word for ourselves!  We CAN understand it!  It is part of the job of the Holy Spirit to enlighten the Word to us.

I think you have opened a very interesting subject here, and look forward to reading others' thoughts on it.

That's so true Pat.  We come to know God through the Lord Jesus Christ and Him alone.  A wonderful thought.

Ms Sonifo I should ask first why do you want to talk to a statue that isn't real?

Hahahahaha Ms Sonifo I am strange in a way that I talk to EVERYTHING. but nothing can hear me except for God. So to me everything is God, I talk to him all day. I do not get to talk as others do, so to me this is how God helps me undarstand why things are as they are sometimes.

Sonifo

If you have a problem and want to work it out try to talk with God and if that doesn't work then open the bible up and pray and ask God to show you the answers.  And as you read God will talk to you through his word.  Really it does work.  I did this a lot when I first became a christian.  I didn't know how to talk with God and so this really help me understand what to do about my problems.  I still do this today.  I also taught my children to do this.

I am not very good at exsplaining myself in words.  As you can see.   ::)

I have the crucifix that was in my step/fathers coffin. But i do not have it hanging in my house, it is put away, he was a catholic. I was one at one time in mylife. When iwas a Mormom I asked why there was no cross on top of their building, I was told that crosses were the instrument of death at the time of Jesus and to put up a cross would be the same as putting up and electric chair or gas chamber.

But personally for me I do have a cross necklace that I wear occasionally as a piece of jewelry that is a reminder that Jesus is no longer on the cross, but that he went to the cross for you and for me. Praise god that e is our ressurected Savior who took all our sins  etc. to that cross with him and when he came down from the cross all our sins etc were gone.

I want to share a story with all of you.

A couple of years ago I would listen to just about any kind of music and watch whatever on T.v.  Our family wanted to change this and we prayed to God to help us change our ways and to show us what he wanted us to listen to and watch.  Well a week went by and I got in my truck, I turned on the radio and nothing but static was heard.  I pushed one of the memory buttons to turn to a different station and still just static.  I did this with all 12 memory buttons.  They were all static.  I then remembered the prayer.  I took about 10 minutes to go through all the stations and only put the christian music on the memory buttons.  And it is like that today.  I only listen to christian music.  And I know God had done that to my sterio in my truck.  How else could that had happened?  I think God will help us change if we listen to Him and take hede to what he says or is showing us.  We need to always try to stay focused so we can hear him.  God is awesome and he answers prayers.

Good morning everyone.  Well, it is still morning but already 11:05 o'clock.  I came in early and started reading when Cornelia came in and said we had a flat tire.  So I called AAA and they came and put on the spare and then we took the tire down to Sears Service Center to have it fixed.

Janice, I'm sorry to hear about Earl's problems.  We will remember him in our prayers.

I will share a little devotional I read each morning from Heartlight Magazine:

VERSE:
Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD; keep watch over the door of
my lips.
-- Psalm 141:3

THOUGHT:
How important is our speech? Jesus said it revealed what was going on in our heart. Proverbs repeatedly tells us that our words
can wound or heal. The apostle Paul tells us to speak only what will benefit those who hear us. In light of these Scriptures, this prayer of David is very appropriate. Only God can help us tame the tongue and use its power to bless. Let's invite him into our world of speech and ask him to take control of it as he does our heart!

PRAYER:
Most holy and righteous Father, I don't want my language to ever betray you or wound your children. Please help me redeem my speech and use it to glorify you, bless your children, and speak of salvation to those who do not know your Son. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

It is good to see everyone.  I can't begin to comment on all the posts.

Sonja, I really liked the piece on Mothers.  It makes you think about how important they are in our lives.

About the discussion of idols it is interesting that Hezekiah, when he became king of Judah destroyed the various idols.  Among these was the bronze serpent Moses had made.  When Moses made it it was good because God commanded it.  But there came a time when the people began to worship it and this was wrong.

II Ki 18:4 He removed the high places and broke the sacred pillars, cut down the wooden image and broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made; for until those days the children of Israel burned incense to it, and called it Nehushtan.  (NKJ)

Nehushtan, literally "bronze serpent-idol," was the contemptuous name given by King Hezekiah to the bronze serpent made by Moses in the wilderness <Num. 21:8-9>, when people began to worship it <2 Kin. 18:4>.
(from Nelson's Illustrated Bible Dictionary) (Copyright (C) 1986, Thomas Nelson Publishers)

It would be wrong if one has a cross to worship the cross.  I don't have a cross in my house or on my person but I don't think it would be wrong unless one worshipped it.  If one has a doubt about this he shouldn't have them.

I think you do a good job to exsplain it as you believe it. I know there are many Christians of many churches and I know some think more different than others. I do talk to God as you say you do too. It does work for me too. I wish to make certian that when I think I believe something to be for true, I like to ask it in here sometimes to make certian I believe it as other Christians do. I want to make certian I am on the path. many here know the words of God MUCH better than I do. It is a great help to me to have the help here to find the answers as they are written. I seek only the truth. ;D

Hello all!  I will post quickly while Capt. Destructo is taking his afternoon nap! ::)

Meeks-- Awesome questions.  Yes, I do think it is wrong to worship the cross.  God wants to be the only God in our life, and to replace his glory and power with two sticks of wood seems ludicrous.  But like you, I have seen people do it.  I was asked one time why I would wear a cross necklace when it was a device of torture and killing.  I thought for a minute, adn said, "'Cause He's not on it anymore."  (Obviously this answer wouldn't work with a crucifix).

I had other stuff to say, and forgot what it was. :-\

Anyway.  Have an awesome day, and I will be in and out and around!

I love my cross--It is a beautiful piece of jewelry.

I would wear it all the time.

Sometimes, I would find myself fingering it when I was troubled and you can't imagine the peace I felt.

Not from rubbing the cross but because when I look down at the cross on my neck; I recall Jesus' many many burdens and troubles that HE took upon HIMSELF for my miserable sins.

HE went through far more than we could ever handle and HE did it for us and for our eternal security.

THat is when the peace comes over me just knowing that HE died for me and the cross is my acknowledment that because of the death on the cross; I will have a secured eternity worshipping the one who made it all possible.

Awesome to think that HE would chose me to be HIS friend but HE did and I am forever grateful.

Take care and as always,
Love in CHrist,

I do feel ignorant for not having the time to reply to everyone's messages.  I have read what everyone has to say and have been interested in the conversation.  I liked the verse that Papa John quoted:

QuoteJohn 8:31-32  Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.  "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."  (NKJ)

It is something that amazes me that this promise was given to people who were not converted, if you read the whole of the chapter I think you would agree.  How much more can we claim this promise for our lives.  Bless the Lord for giving us His word.

I am very tired tonight for some reason.  God bless everyone and thank you for your wonderful friendship.

Anthony.

How about we sing?

'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus
(Click to hear music)

Author:  Louisa M. R. Stead, 19th Century
Musician:  William J. Kirkpatrick, 1838-1921

'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
And to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise,
And to know, "Thus says the Lord!"

Refrain

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I've proved Him o'er and o'er
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more!

O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
And in simple faith to plunge me
Neath the healing, cleansing flood!

Refrain

Yes, 'tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.

Refrain

I'm so glad I learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.

Refrain

:) I learn quite a lot today here. I did not know that some Christians are ask NOT to read the Bible ??? how strange.
I was very happy to see Ms Cami post today and Ms Bice. I was Very glad to see ms Robson talk of her cross and the peace it bring to her because it is as a reminder of Jesus and not a Idol at all. And Ms Pat, Ms Janet and Captain Papa John had some words I will treasure.

Papa John   ???

I often have a fear that my questions will not be a benefit to those who hear them. I know God has my heart.
My speech,  ??? I am not so certian of.  :-\

Ms Pat it is strange to me to think that everyone stop and sing when you post a song here.  ;D I think it funny. It is a giggle.  ;D do you sing, .. for true?   ;D or only read the words?  ;D

Etta Sue

Sonja ~ I really like your Mother thingy.  It is so true.

Cami ~ Post often.  We love hearing from new people.

Mieka ~ The 'things' that you mentioned are religious symbols.  Those symbols remind us of scripture in the Bible. You say you have a Buddha in your room.  You know he is stone.  You know you only have one God. Buddha then is a toy such as a doll.  I see nothing wrong with that anymore than me talking to Ali.

To all ~ My, but we have a great bunch of posters!!!  Everyone has great answers and I love little Mieka that asks the questions to get us all turning pages and racking our brains for answers.

I have a cross necklace.  I have lots of Angels and a lovely Nativity of Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus.  I painted a paint by number of Jesus at Gethsemane.  I have a small bookcase that is Bibles, study books etc.  Only a few years ago, if you walked in my home...you would have seen nothing religious.  Since I was baptized only 5 years ago, I have lots of religious things.  The angels were gifts from others.  I look at one and I am reminded of the person that gave it to me.  For me, I was without God for so long that I want people to know that I have God in my heart now.  Baptism is a ritual for others to know you are a Christian.  A cross necklace is the same thing to me....letting others know that I love God.

Pat

Hi Mieka...

I don't know what people do when I post a hymn!   ;D

Maybe that would be a good question to ask!  I know that I sing.  I'm still singing here as I have my Real Audio set to repeat over and over.

My problem with talking to the Buddha in your room would be what that Buddha represents.  It represents a god that isn't the One True God.  And we must be very careful about this.  I posted two scriptures above from the book of Leviticus which would be good to read over again.  God told us to get rid of idols.

Janet

Mieka, you have the benefit here of hearing different perspectives when you ask a question.  The members here are not all of one "denomination" and have been Christians for differing amounts of time.  And there is always the fact that everyone hears and understands things just a little bit differently from each other.

The thing that bothers me about the Budda in your room is that you came from a country which worships Budda.  He was a mortal man, no different, no more holy than any other mortal man, and thus should not be worshipped.

God---the one and only Creator of the universe, is not mortal.  As you said, He is the great I AM, without beginning and without end.

Now, I know you also said you talk to many things.  I do that sometimes, too!  I may talk to my car, to the dog, to the cat, to the computer----knowing those things will not answer me!  (Well, sometimes the cat and dog do, but not in human words! ;))  So, what bothers me for you is----why do you talk to a stone Budda?  Is it a habit?  Is it a need?  Do you expect to receive any kind of satisfaction from talking to it?  If it were just a toy or a doll.........that would be so different!  I hear my little granddaughter talk to her dolls, too, but I know she is playing pretend.

I just want so much for you to know Jesus as your dear Savior, and to worship and pray to only Him.  You know we all love you so much here, and you have blessed us tremendously with your posts, your humor and your great questions.  I never want to hurt you in any way, but neither do I want to lead you astray from the path of truth.  You are precious and valuable, Mieka, and we all want you to know that.  Hugs to you, little sister.

Here's another one, that has been a real blessing to me during the past many days.  Sometimes I get discouraged and then the words of this hymn come to my mind..."It will be worth it all when we see Christ!"

It Will Be Worth It All[/color]

Words and music by Esther Kerr Rusthoi

Oft times the day seems long, our trials hard to bear,
We're tempted to complain, to murmur and despair;
But Christ will soon appear to catch His Bride away,
All tears forever over in God's eternal day.

Refrain
It will be worth it all when we see Jesus,
Life's trials will seem so small when we see Christ;
One gliimpse of His dear face all sorrow will erase,
So bravely run the race till we see Christ.

Sometimes the sky looks dark with not a ray of light,
We're tossed and driven on , no human help in sight;
But there is one in heav'n who knows our deepest care,
Let Jesus solve your problem - just go to Him in pray'r.

Refrain
It will be worth it all when we see Jesus,
Life's trials will seem so small when we see Christ;
One gliimpse of His dear face all sorrow will erase,
So bravely run the race till we see Christ.

Life's day will soon be o'er, all storms forever past,
We'll cross the great divide, to glory, safe at last;
We'll share the joys of heav'n - a harp, a home, a crown,
The tempter will be banished, we'll lay our burden down.

Refrain
It will be worth it all when we see Jesus,
Life's trials will seem so small when we see Christ;
One gliimpse of His dear face all sorrow will erase,
So bravely run the race till we see Christ.

Sometimes I sing along, sometimes not!  Usually I do at least hum along, though.  But it's funny---I can't stand to have music playing when I'm concentrating on doing something else, or reading.  So I usually turn off the music after one time through.  That isn't the way of kids now, I know!  They say they HAVE to have music to study! :-\

In the meantime I am anxious to start using the camera, it also has a macro setting for close ups. I will be playing with it in the mean time.
