Morning Devotional...

I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.            John 10:10

John is the only Gospel writer who records this statement, but the other three illustrate it in the intertwined stories of the woman with the issue of blood and the nobleman's dead daughter.

Christ had to go to the girl; the woman had to go to Him.

The girl was twelve years old; the woman had been ailing twelve years.

The girl needed life! The woman needed a better quality of life--abundant life!

The woman was cured, not by the outward touch of her hand, but by the inner exercise of faith in the Saviour.

The girl evidenced life by rising and walking.

How wondrous is His work.
                                                              --W. P. W. McVey

Life! Life! Eternal life!
Jesus alone is the Giver;
Life Life! Abundant life!
Glory to Jesus forever!

Hi Pat, I see you are here just now.  I tried to get in a hello before the gate closed on Friday night!  Anyway, here is a hello for Saturday.  I am so far behind I never will catch up.  Be patient with me, I am slow as well as busy.  I am trying to keep Earl's garden alive and growing.  My brown thumb is a great hindrance!  :-)  We got home from Amarillo on Tuesday, and I just tonight got caught up with the snail mail.

Earl is doing better.  I don't know much about heart failure, my mother had it but she only lived about 6 weeks after we knew about it.  His kidneys were at 40% when we left the hospital.  He is still restricted to 1 liter of fluid a day, but he is doing real well with it.  Thank you, Pat for the hint about the ice, I have a feeling that will be a big help as the days get hotter.

Thanks to all of you who lifted us up in prayer this past week, and for the instant messages.  So many people were praying for us.

We go back to Amarillo for his checkup on the 30th.
Good night dear friends,
Love in Jesus, Who first loved us.
~Janice
This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.   Ps 118:24

Janice, our prayers continue for you both. May God's presence be especially close to you both.

Janice:  I have been praying for you and Earl as well.

I haven't been on CP., or many other sites for nearly a week.  Life is getting busy.

Today is "nuts".. we have a 50th anniv to go to, plus another church function, and another 75th birthday tomorrow after church.

Sunday night I have company coming for dinner, and I must "find" the time to prepare a meal for all 6 of us!

Love,
Judy

Good morning, and a happy Saturday to all of you here on CP!

My sister and her husband arrived right on the stroke of midnight last night, and are still sleeping.  They live in Nebraska, not far from North Platte.  It surely is good to see them, but it will be a very short visit.  They have Vern's family reunion over in the edge of Colorado today, and will be going home tomorrow.

Later today, Darrel's Mom and sister from Amarillo will be coming.  They come each year at Memorial time, to put the flowers out at the cemetery.  I could do it for them, but it seems important to them that they come and do it the way they want it done.  I think they will stay one night, but it would be nice if they would stay a little longer!

Sometime today, I will probably take Abby home, even though she says she isn't ready to go.  She didn't bring any clothes for church, and I think her parents miss her!  But of course, she is welcome to stay, too.

Janice, how nice to hear from you this morning!  Now, you be careful and don't overdo it, taking over all the chores.  We need you to stay well and strong to help Earl.  I'm so glad he is doing as well as he is, and we continue praying for you both.

Marilyn, I hope "joy cometh in the morning" for you.  I know you won't stay "down" for long, it isn't your nature!  You will soon begin to see God's hand in working out this painful situation, and He is able to bring good out of even the worst situations.  God bless you!

I'd better shut down and help start breakfast, Sis and Vern will be getting up soon!

Pat ~ Thank you so much for the great devotion.  Sounds like you are busy on this busy weekend.  It is Memorial Day weekend here...and 500 Race weekend.  Is it a holiday in Canada also?

Janice ~ Good to see you posting.  My heart and prayers are out for Earl and you.  Also about your brown thumb....

Judy Mc ~ Hi.  Wondered where you were.  Busy, busy, busy!

Marilyn ~ How are you today?  Thought about you with prayers during the night.

Since I ran around and then got the lawn mowed yesterday, today will be different.  I hope to print out my PSP lessons since they start tomorrow.  I am hoping that it won't take a ream of paper like the last six weeks of lessons... :)  But I don't think I could do them without them being printed out.  Really!

I pray that everyone has a Blessed Holiday!!

Pat:  Thanks for all of your help.  I didn't know that you had a student, is this someone living with you or are you helping educate?

Larry:  It was a sad experience but really not foremost in my thoughts.  Sorry about your time too - there must have been a reason.  In our church, the pastor always says that if you are baptised and believe in the ressurection, you may come forward - anyone can really go to the altar.

Hi Marilyn:  No, it didn't turn me off - I just looked right away for another church group at that time.  Guess I just needed to continue to hear the message. Prayers for you!
Etta Sue:  There is a new Chinese place being built near here.  I have never heard of anything written about differences - perhaps in the library where our taxes pay for anything anti-christian.   ???

Papa John:  Love and kindness - wouldn't that be wonderful.  I remember a sermon years ago admonishing the congregation about greeting newcomers and single people (I put a bug in the ear of the pastor about that one  ;D Guess that is why I love to work on evangalism.  Do hope that you get your injection soon and it helps you pronto.

We are driving to the Denver area and visiting with almost all of the children.  One son will be flying to Indianapolis (Etta Sue's are) for that race).  Have a safe Memorial Day and weekend. Carol

Etta Sue

SBGW!!
We visit every day.  We talk about our children, grandchildren, local politics, aches and pains, sorrows, triumphs.  We discuss the Sunday sermon, our reading of scripture, a new book that touched or troubled us.  We post photographs.  We sing.  We laugh a lot.  Sometimes we cry.  We make an effort to listen intently.

Our visits to CP is our holy time.  As we read each others posts and look at each others pictures, we posts our thoughts, hopes, and fears to each other and to God.  Our posts are a manifestation of Christ in the world.  Being part of the Body of Christ is not a private walk with Jesus; it is two or three people gathered together with Christ in their midst.  When we show compassion or 'listen' with love, we are expressing Christ.  We are being the church in the world.  Even though we aren't perfect and we don't have all the right answers, we experience Christs's presence in these times together.

Who needs someone to listen???!!!

Good Morning Everyone!

Well, this will be a fleeting visit this morning as I have much to do before leaving for the wedding I'm attending today.

QuoteI haven't been on CP., or many other sites for nearly a week.
Yes, Judy, you're missed when we don't see you!  Nice to see you now though.

Carol, I'm not sure what you are asking...  I don't have a student here.  Were you speaking of the Computer class I went to on Thurs.?  It was at our local Senior Centre.  It's every Thursday morning.

I'm so glad to see your post, Janice.  Yes, the ice cubes are a lifesaver when your fluid intake is so restricted.  I bought an ice crusher for Jack just for this little job of crushing ice.  Has there been any talk for him going on dialysis?

Etta Sue, our big holiday weekend was last weekend.  This isn't a holiday here in Canada this weekend.

Nice to see you pop in, Ruth Ann.  Hope your lovely daughter-in-law will come and post soon.  You'll have to help her get started.

Sounds like you have a busy time ahead of you too, Janet!  Don't get overtired!  LOL

Got to run now and get the car vacuumed out.

They Lie On The Table Side By Side

They lie on the table side by side
The Holy Bible and the T.V. Guide.
One is well worn and cherished with pride.
Not the Bible, but the T.V. Guide.

One is used daily to help folks decide.
No, not the Bible, but the T.V. Guide.
As the pages are turned, what shall they see?
Oh, what does it matter, turn on the T.V.

So they open the book in which they confide.
No, not the Bible, but the T.V. Guide.
The Word of God is seldom read.
Maybe a verse before they fall into bed.

Exhausted and sleepy and tired as can be.
Not from reading the Bible, from watching T.V.
So then back to the table side by side,
Lie the Holy Bible and the T.V. Guide.

No time for prayer, no time for the Word,
The plan of Salvation is seldom heard.
But forgiveness of sin, so full and free,
Is found in the Bible, not on T.V.

How often the TV Guide (and the TV itself) displace God's Word!  TV technology comes from knowing God's created world, so the knowledge is His knowledge, yet it is used seemingly just for the purpose of forgetting Him altogether.
We have a very different sort of experience for today here in Arcata, California.  They have what is called the "Kinetic Sculpture Race."  People build contraptions of all kinds - to look like all kinds of things, people, etc.  But each contraption is (supposedly) mobile, with wheels, etc.  Some are built upon bicycles, some on other kinds of wheels, etc.  They have to go through Arcata, then out toward the bay, then across a narrow stretch of water (some make it, some don't), and they finally end up a the Bayshore Mall in Eureka.  Hundreds of people participate in this "race," and thousands watch it.  Our church is going to occupy the front lawn of the pastor, and the race will be going right along the street in front.  Maybe I can get a picture or two.  Don't know.

Good morning everyone!  How is everyone?

Judy-my mom used to have to cook for six people every night.  Now she cooks for eight of us!  Hehehe, I hope you can find the time and that everything goes well.  I'm sure it will.

Pat-glad to hear your jaw is feeling better.  Yes, I agree, we're overdue.  Thanks for your prayers.

Well, I have a full day ahead of me.  Now that the downstairs bannister is done, we're going to do the upstairs one.  I can walk normally now, so I'm very thankful.  I go with my best friend to her graduation this coming weekend.  I'm excited, she's just finished college for Early Childhood Education.  Well, I have to get going.  God be with you all.  Jen.

Marilyn

Good Morning. The devotional was just for me this morning. Thanks Pat.  :)
I am feeling better today, but woke up with a slight headache right between my eyes. After I get my chores done here, hopefully before it gets too hot. I plan on writing a long letter to my daughter Carole. I finally found her phone number yesterday on the internet and made 2 calls to her but only got her machine. She is the one who has the most contact with Ron  and Christi. I want her to convey to Ron my feelings on this matter. I really don't think she will return my phone calls. So I want to sit down and let the Lord lead me in what to say to her and to Ron and his family. Gilbert could't understand why it upset me so much. He is not close to the other kids at all and doesn't even consider them as family. That's a long story in itself.
Well I am going to get busy, wash the car first before anything else.

I want to thank every one for the prayer. I'll try to get back in here later.

Hi CP friends.  No rain this morning but still overcast.  We did see some sun yesterday afternoon and it was great.

I had a good day yesterday and Pat and I went out to eat in the evening and picked up a Portable MP3 player at Circuit City.  I worked all evening trying to get it to work and finally gave up and this morning called my son.  He told me a couple of things to do, including using another USB port and it all worked and I am now listening to the first songs I have downloaded onto it.  I can setup the programs on MusicMatch Jukebox and then drag and drop them to the player and they load there.  It has great sound and is only 2 1/2 inches in length and 2 1/2 inches in height and .9 inch in depth.  It has a visual display and 128 mgs of storage.  It has this cute little arm case and these little earphones that have clips that go over your ears.  I will use this while having the EECP treatments.

I heard from the EECP clinic yesterday and I will start the treatments on June 12th at 1:30 pm each day and they should end on July 31st.  This time will avoid both the morning and evening rush hour traffic in Atlanta and what a blessing.

Pat, glad your Senior Center computer training session went so well.  I know you are a great teacher.  Will you be doing this often?  With the SARS and now the mad cow disease your country is being hit very hard.  I heard yesterday there are new cases of SARS in Canada as well as in Asia.

Marilyn, I am not giving up choir, only taking a hopefully short leave of absence.  I love to sing.  I am hoping after I get into the treatments I will start feeling a lot better and can go back before the fall.  However, our choir usually takes the month of August off.  Last year right before Easter I had a bout in the hospital and had a stent put in and got out midweek before Easter but sang in the choir on Easter morning and later our choir director said that really made her nervous.  To sing God's praises is wonderful worship.

Papa John, sure hope the shot in a couple of weeks will help ease the pain and the medicine the doctor gave you yesterday will help until you can get the shot.

Welcome SBGW.  I will be looking forward to your postings.

Jen, hope you and your brothers and sisters help your Mother with all that cooking each day.  Preparing food for 8 each day is a big job, but I am sure it is a labor of love.  Glad to read you are able to walk normally again.

Marilyn, I haven't yet had a chance to read your prayer request but will do so as soon as I finish this long posting.  Glad you are feeling better today.  I am sure God will lead you in the right thing to do.

Pat ~ I was confused by the student thing also! You had said you had a new student. It was in referral to your new dentist at the dental college!   ;) :D ;D ::)

Pat

OH!!!  Thanks Jerry...

I have a new STUDENT DENTIST.  All of the work done at the London Dental College is done by students and I had a nice young lady up until now.  She's graduating next week and since my dental work isn't done, I now have a new student working on my.  He's from Syria and was a dentist over there and also in the USA (Boston) but now must go through two years of University here in Canada to re-qualify!

Whewww...  Thanks Jerry for helping me out.  I'm sorry I misled you, Carol!

Patriots and Friends,

It is no wonder that many Americans no longer observe Memorial
Day with reverence.  Schools no longer teach civics, the courts
exclude God (officially) from the public square, and the media
and malls "celebrate" Memorial Day for commercial sales.  Indeed,
Memorial Day has been sold out.

Fortunately, Memorial Day is still reserved by American Patriots
as a day to honor the service and sacrifice of fallen men and
women who donned our Armed Forces uniforms with honor.

When contemplating this Memorial Day, consider these tender
words from 3-year-old Taylor Pokorney at the funeral service
for his father, Marine Corps 1st Lt. Frederick Pokorney, killed
in action recently in Iraqi:  "My daddy, my hero, I will take
care of Mommy for you as you asked.  We will be best friends.
I will take her to SeaWorld for my birthday like you planned.
I love you.  I need you.  I miss you."

We invite you to forward this e-mail with young Taylor's
words along to others, as a solemn reminder of who we honor on
Memorial Day.  One appropriate way to recognize fallen veterans
and their families is to join with others and help place flags on
the graves of fallen Patriots at your nearest National Cemetery
(generally done the Saturday before Memorial Day).

Founding Patriot John Adams said:  "I am well aware of the toil and
blood and treasure that it will cost to maintain this Declaration,
and support and defend these States.  Yet through all the gloom
I can see the rays of ravishing light and glory.  I can see that
the end is worth more than all the means...."  Indeed it is!

I want to tell you all that I love you very much, you have become family to me albeit my cyber family, you are much loved. I am so thankful that I was was invited to share the godly love and caring I have found here. In my lonely moments I come to CP to find the warmth and love that is missing in my life. I feel as if I know each one of you personally as we have gotten to know each other and our families through our posts here. There are also those on SN that I feel this same love for. I got a very sweet call last night from Edith Bolton (Borealis) we talked for close to an hour and plan on meeting around the end of July while she is vacationing near Mckinleyville in Hiouchi 8 miles from Crescent City and about 70 miles from where I will be. It hasn't been set in concrete but if I can't make to where she is she will come to Mckinleyville to vist me. I do feel somewhat better and am just letting the Peace of God guard my heart and my mind in Christ Jesus and the Joy of the Lord to be my strength. I have also had email from Jissup (joyce), Diva31 (Ellie Mae), Ginger. Mark and 1-2 others.

I still have that annoying headache right between my eyes, but I know it is just the enemy trying his slimy best to get to me.

Hello everyone.  We are having a beautiful day here in Nashville.  The sun is shining and the temperature is 69 degrees and going up to maybe 75.

It is good to see each one today.  Larry, right now I am feeling pretty good.  The medicine is helping a lot.  I am hoping tht the injection will help.  In any case I can live with this and have so many things to be thankful for.

Pat, the devotional reminds us that God is good that Jesus came to give us life.

John 10:9-11  I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture.  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.  (NIV)

Jesus is the way.  We enter by him into life.  In Christ we have life to the full.  I am so glad that there came a time when I entered in and have found the good life in Christ.  God is so good.    ;D

Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

I have appreciated all the friends made here in C.P., more than words can say.

Its a blessing for me, as well, as you Marilyn when we can pray for one another, and share our burdens here.

This afternoon I heard from my friend Margaret (I had asked prayer for her, as she was diagnosed with lung cancer).  Well, yesterday she was told that she DOSEN'T have lung cancer.  She was misdiagnosed!!  Eleven days thinking she had lung cancer....she is elated, but very confused no doubt, about this misdiagnosis.

I am not sure if Margaret knows the Lord. I have witnessed to her for several years....she always agrees with what I say; does attend church occasionally with us, BUT, is still tied to her very liberal church, and good deeds which is what they preach. >:(

Please continue to pray for Marg that she will see this as an answer of prayer....and not just a "fluke" from mis diagnosis.

Pat - I mean't to comment on what a lovely photo this is here of you and Jack.

How long ago was that taken?  That is how I remember Jack!

I'm just stopping by to see what's new.  First company left after breakfast, and I got the sheets washed and back on the beds, now waiting for the other company to arrive!

Abby says she isn't going home for 23 days! ;)

Marilyn, I'm sure keeping you in my thoughts and prayers today.  Love you!

Janet, you must be a wonderful grandmother and what an honor to have a young grandchild want to stay so long with you.

Late this afternoon someone went through our neighborhood and put out small American flags by the mailboxes.  They look very nice.

Marilyn, I think we all feel a real kinship here with each other as we share our faith and a bit of our lives with each other.  It is helpful to know that others really sincerely care.

Judy, good to see you posting today.  It suddenly dawned on me that you had not been posting the last few days.

Jerry L. Sowers

Pat ~ You are welcome, but Etta Sue was the one who set me straight when I thought you were teaching and had a student! ;D

I hope and pray everyone has a super great night! Early to bed and early to rise for me, so I will check in again tomorrow, but remember if I don't post it isn't that you all aren't on my mind and in my prayers.
;)

Etta Sue

Pat ~ I think Carol was talking about your student that is at dental college.  Jerry thought you had a student in your home, too.   ::)  BTW, cute poem.  Also I have been changed to the Artists group B.  Jamie changed me after I sent the email about so many new one liners and 50+ 'page downs'.  So I am in Athena's group.

Hello Al ~ Your race sounds more exciting than the 500 Mile Race.  I may listen to it...at least the beginning and the end.  Hmmmph!  I don't even know who is on the pole!   8)

Marilyn ~ I have been wondering how you were doing all day today.  Glad you are okay and have a plan to communicate with your son and family.  I think all of us rely on CP in one way or another even if it is to keep our minds busy and our hearts full.

Larry ~ Sounds like you are all ready for your EECP treatments.  Listening to music ought to help make the time go faster.  I, too, pray you will be back in your choir soon.

Judy Mc ~ Good to see you posting again.  Don't stay away like that.  You are missed.

I feel like this chair is glued to me.  I copied one week of PSP lessons, deleted old lessons from my website, uploaded some stuff to Homestead and downloaded stuff for lessons.  Then got cleaned up and drove some ladies to Red Lobster for a ladies night out.  Yummmm!  I got home before dark.  But this chair is getting might hard!!!

Good night, y'all!!!!

Pat

Hi Everyone...

I came home from the wedding early as the music was so loud that I got a dilly of a headache.  Guess I'm just getting too old!  I'd rather be home here.

Etta Sue, I think I'd like to change as well.!!!

"Click for Waterloo Wellington, Ontario Forecast"

Etta Sue

Pat, send Jamie an email...she is the one that changed me but I think it has to be done soon!!!  Like tonight or at least, before the classes commence.  BTW, what does it mean...do in your own time?  But we can only submit a weeks lessons at once.  Just wondering.

Marilyn

Well here I am at the end of the day. My headache is finally gone but it took all day of just laying around on the couch withthe fan blowing on me and the A/C going. I thought it would never leave.  :-\

Well my daughter never called me back but I did write her a long letter expressing my feelings for Ron and the family, now if she will just share that letter with Ron and Christi. ???

I have been here afew times today to read the posts but didn't feel like posting at the time. I am looking forward to church tomorrow, Sund School, the message and the worship.  We learned a new song at choir practice that one of the guitar players learned when they were on vacation in Oregon. :)

Pat I sure am enjoying the Proverb 31 woman study we are doing. Thank you for starting that for us. ;)

I think this will be my last post for today and I will see you all tomorrow morning for my NEM fix before church.

God bless you all

Hi everyone!  We had a great night tonight.  It was a potluck for our college and careers group.  I made so much food!  I made smothered meatballs, deviled eggs, and a fruit salad inside a hollowed out watermelon.  Well, we had a blast, and then a Bible study.  We were reading in 1 Peter, chapter two.  The debate tonight was about who the authority was that we are commanded to obey, be it government, enforcing officials, judges, etc.  People came out with some really neat concepts and comparisons.  But the predominant feeling was that we should respect each and every person, no matter whether they're in authority or not.  I think it was a good evening overall.  I hope we can do it again sometime.  I wish I could host it here, I love experimenting with cooking.  But our house is wayyy too small.

My friend and I are driving up to Timmins next weekend for her college graduation.  I'm so proud of her!  She's the same age as I.  She moved back to Guelph, which is really nice.  It's nice having her around again.  We kept in touch constantly while she was gone, in letters and email, but it's nice to be able to call her up and go do something with her.  Well, I'm still a little wound up from the evening, but I should get some sleep if I want to concentrate in the service tomorrow.  God be with you all.  Jen.

Hi Jen...

It's so nice that you dropped in to tell us about the College and Careers evening.  It sure sounds as if you had a great time.  Your food sounds as if it was so delicious.  Any left over?  :P  You'll have to come over for a visit with your friend.  I'd really like that.

Yes, I must get the NEM posted for tomorrow and go and read a little and get my mind prepared for tomorrow morning.

Talk to you soon, Jen!

Just a note to say hello and to thank you for this site and the daily devotionals.

My 90 year old father-in-law was taken to the hospital a few days ago with pneumonia. Last night we called him at the hospital. He was happy to hear from us but tired so we didn't talk long. I told him we loved him. At 2 a.m. Martha (his wife) called to tell us he had passed away from a massive heart attack.  He was a  Christian so it's a comfort to know he is with our Lord. We'll be flying to Vermont this week.

Feeling kind of subdued toight. We didn't get much sleep last night so I'm on my way to bed.

Hope everyone has a nice Memorial Day week-end.

I'm so very sorry, Beverly.  It's so difficult to say "Farewell".  That's how my father went--so quickly.  And I miss him still.

We'll be praying for you both as you journey north.

Keep in touch, dear friend.
