Thoughts for the Week
January 28, 2018

Devotional From  Chris Saunders

Read Matthew 27.

"The veil of the Temple was rent in two from top to bottom."

But religious people have sewn it back up again, they do not want to be so close to God.
Let's just keep Him under control, and always call Him "God" not Jesus..Jesus is a little bit too personal..the "Man up there" is ok.
But Jesus..Saviour..Redeemer, that is challenging..
"God" is just fine, my god can be anything I want him to be.
The Bible is read in church, prayers are recited there, that's often enough.
Keep that curtain closed.
And stay away from fanatics!

"In memory of the Saviour's love,
We keep the sacred feast,
Where every humble contrite heart
Is made a welcome guest,
"By faith we take the bread of life,
With which our souls are fed;
And cup, in token of his blood
That was for sinners shed."

There's Just Something About That Name
(Click to here music)

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
There's just something about that name
Master, Saviour, Jesus
Like the fragrance after the rain
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
Let all Heaven and Earth proclaim
Kings and kingdoms
Will all pass away
But there's something about that Name.

Hi Everyone.  We have had a nice calm rain for several hours and I think it is to continue throughout the day.  I was able to get three or four hours of sleep last night and then the coughing took over and I sat up the rest of the night in my easy chair.  I did go back to the Prompt Care yesterday afternoon and my lungs are still clear.  I was given a prescription for a  five day antibiotic pack, told to use the nose spray, and use Muscenex DM.  I am pretty wiped out today so expect to spend a lot of time resting and hopefully getting some sleep.  I hope to see some effect from the medicine by the end of the day.  So I will be limiting my comments again today as don't feel like sitting here in my office all morning.

Judy, thanks for getting us started off on a fresh week and sharing the Devotional Thoughts from Chris.

Judy...
...sadly your link wouldn't play for me....so I looked on youtube and posted Gloria Gaither...one I could hear...Have to admit, not one I have ever sung, nor was familiar with...glad to be familiar with it now...such a sweet and gentle Hymn...

I notice Gloria is wearing a starfish broach which looks very similar to the lovely broach I chose from my raffle winning prize at last weeks MS Social meet - up....

We stayed in this morning because I have not felt well for a few hours but certain that it isn't any flu or cold at least now.  What dire warnings out there for several months more of this year of unstoppable illness.  What would we be without our Great Comforter?

Thank you, Chris

Larry:  So sorry for this long lasting bout with coughing and whatever you have going on - I do hope Pat is better too.  This too shall pass - but it never passes fast enough.

Janet:  Just thinking of you today.  Hug

Judy:  I will try to play your link once more..... thanks for thinking of all of us.

Janet

We aren't doing much today, after going to church this morning.  But we did get an email from our trip leader, with good informations about how to pack.  After reading it, and trying on an old pair of boots he has had for some time, and finding them too tight now, Darrel has decided we need to go to Garden tomorrow to find him a pair of walking boots for the trip.  We surely do not want his feet hurting, and on this trip we will be doing a LOT of walking!  One day, we will be walking two hikes of 2+ hours each!!  :o  So for sure, we need good walking shoes/boots!

Larry, I'm praying that cough goes away--today!!

Carol, hope you're feeling fine again by now!

John called this morning to tell me he wouldn't be at church, as he didn't sleep well last night.  Said he would be out this afternoon so we could show him what we want him to take care of here while we are away; but so far,
he hasn't come.

Good words fromChris today.  Thank you, Judy, for posting them!

Hi Everyone.  It rained though out the day yesterday and is still overcast this morning but a very low chance of more rain this afternoon.  Yesterday was completely a day of rest for me and although no peppy this morning I had a great night of sleep in my own bed.  I am definitely better, although am hesitant to be too optimistic as have thought this a couple of times before only to have a relapse.  Nothing on the schedule today and expect to spend another day at home getting some extra rest.

Jackie, I don't think you mentioned winning the raffle at your meeting last week.  That is always a pleasant thing to have happen.

Carol, it has been a long time since I have had any illness of this type and, while I know this too shall pass, I am ready for it to be over but think the worst is past.

Janet, I have lost track of where you and Darrel will be going on your trip.  The thought of having to walk for 2+ hours is daunting.  It is a good thing Darrel discovered he needed new boots before you got on the trip.  I sure hope John will be reliable for you while you are gone.

Judy, thanks for starting the new challenge.  I hope today finds you and John both feeling better.

Carol

We had such a nice shared meal with an old friend and her nephew & his wife last night- I brought a fruit salad.

Judy:  I just started knitting a scarf and this morning picked it up and made a mistake right away - so, it is unraveled and is starting over.  All because I forgot to purl when needed.

Everyone - don't forget to look at the huge moon this week Wednesday for sure.

Spotted another javelina last night while driving back and today my mission is to complain about the abundance of these smelly and downright dangerous critters.  Time for a round-up.  They have done such a thing before and we are all complaining.  There is another strange looking desert critter digging and ruining my back neighbor's yard. It has a ring-tail of black stripes.

Janet:  Waiting to read where you are going to be walking.  Be sure to pack a couple of soft band aids for sore feet.

Larry:  Our friend is flying to Minnesota to be there for the birth of a grandchild - but cannot hold the baby at the hospital.  Only will be able to look through a glass.  Toughing up on visitors and that is a good idea.  I hope you feel better very soon.  We are not going to a lot of lectures and activities this year - all the signs say to stay away if you have a cough.  Still, some people just think they can sit in the back and it is alright.

Larry, so good to read that you're on the mend, and know you will continue taking care of yourself!  Other things can wait!

Carol, when (if) they round up the javelinas, will they destroy them?  If not, what good will it do?  I sure hope they don't continue to spread to other areas.  With all the problems there: javelinas, whatever the fever is that you mentioned, etc., I'm surprised you and Don still want to spend time there.  Thanks for mentioning band-aids; I will put a few of those in!

We are going to Chile and on down to the very tip of Argentina!  Hot in some places, cold and rainy and very windy in others.  Also out to Easter Island (Rapa Nui) where it is hot and temps do not change from daytime to night.  Should be very educational.  Hope we can do all that walking!  Darrel didn't see that this was more strenuous than our usual trips until last night!!  Well, if we need to skip some of the hikes, we can do that. But I hope I'm able to do all of them.  I don't like to miss out on anything!  ;)

Judy, thanks for helping out in here.  I don't know how to do much on computers.  Have to do it over and over and over, or I forget very quickly how I did it!

Darrel found some boots that are very comfortable, and I hope the ones I got two years ago will be fine.  I can just wear my Keen shoes if need be.  My problem is having to wear the boots on the plane because they won't fit in my suitcase--too full already!  ???

We are going to a chili and chicken noodle supper tonight, and Diane is coming to see us before we leave, and going with us!  Yea!

Carol

We cannot even "talk" to anyone in Arizona wildlife - all on computer.  No, they will not relocate - it may kill the critters. Oh, no - they will not destroy anything.  "They" were here first.   Also, the critters main enemy are what they call Mountain Lions and I call Cougars (same).  So, Cougars sometimes will roam around too.  Now, that is what I call creepy having known them in both Washington and Colorado at a cabin and near our house.

Janet:  I think I just thought of the name of what you need as well - mole skin.  Find it at a pharmacy, for any time you hike and a spot on your feet becomes sore.  Yes, isn't it fun to travel anymore? That sounds like a fantastic trip  - throw out some of the clothes and put in a 2nd. pair of shoes - you won't regret it.

Don loves the climate and view of Tucson mountains, sunset is spectacular.  I can barely get him home.

JudyB

Carol I was going to ask about removing them and relocating those Javelins... Did a google search, pretty interesting.
About the knitting did you try to take it back 1 row?  that is what I do unless it is a lace pattern or cables.  I am not a fan of cables however Heather loves them! She is now the knitter in the family.

I really enjoy the work here just was overwhelmed for some time.  Now to relearn what I knew 2 years ago!

John has headed to bed he is still not well and I am feeling worse than yesterday.  We are just hoping this clears up soon we are both sick and tired of being sick and tired.

The roads john was on with the bus today were rough.  He had one hill that he couldn't get up, the bus spun out and he had to back down.  The parent of one of his students works in the township office.  He called her and told her of the problem.  I am sure heads had a 2 X 4 smack from her......No one risks her kid's life!

We are expecting weather here in the next few days, snow and perhaps wind.  There is to be a "polar vortex" pretty much for the month of February, which means very cold weather for all of us.

Well I am off to bed, have a good night everyone and Thank our Father for the end of another day!

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone.  I am late getting here on this beautiful morning.  The sun is out and it is a beautiful day. I had a really great nights sleep and didn't wake up until 8 am.  We are not going to dinner at the Church tomorrow night.  Scott has volunteered to prepare dinner here tomorrow evening and Jennifer is going to pick up our grocery order from Walmart a little later this morning.   I am still looking for some energy but the cough is definitely better.

Carol, it sounds wise to stay away from confined spaces.  Those critters are certainly making your lives miserable.

Janet, that is quite a trip.  I don't think you had mentioned where you would be going before.  It is wonderful that you are able to travel.  Hope you enjoyed your dinner with Diane last evening.

Judy, I sure hope you and John recover soon. It seems these illnesses are lasting a long time this year.  Is John driving a bus again this year?  Don't envy you the cold weather ahead.

Carol

Judy:  I had not knit very far and just started from the beginning - it is only K1, Purl 1 each and every row.  That is all my mind can take  ;)  For years, I have wanted to have the children on bus in a seat belt.  It makes me crazy that we don't keep our children in basic safety.  They need to put sand or salt/sand on that hill.  May you two recover quickly.

I just had a message from someone who claims we are closely related - through my Ancestry DNA.  Must be - she is in Minnesota and all my relatives came directly to MN.  I wrote back - this is something I really don't know how to navigate so will ask the teacher here.

I met a doctor today and he recommended a generic pill for allergy - he told me and now I have forgotten.  It may be stored back in the brain, hopefully.  Time to put together a casserole for tomorrow.

For breakfast (after doctor appointment) we had coffee and I had a cinnamon roll.  It was good.

Larry: Very sweet of Scott and Jennifer helping with groceries.

JudyB

Seat belts on a school bus are most dangerous.  The City of Toronto I believe still have them.  There are reports of them being used as weapons as well who is responsible for belting in and making sure the seat belt is done up. The driver has enough responsibilities. With the current accusations that are going around drivers have a very strict rule to never touch a child, no hugs for a crying child or holding of a hand.  Failure to follow this can and has resulted in drivers being fired.  Then on another note modern school busses have higher seats, well padded, and closer together to stop children sliding out of their seats.  The most dangerous aspect to me with seat belts is fire.  The children have less than 4 minutes to get out of the bus, if they are belted in they simply won't make it.

Well John had a full nights sleep last night, he is definitely on the mend.  My ears are popping, throat is still giving trouble, and sinuses are full.  However better today than yesterday. Heading to bed early tonight!

Have a great evening folks and God bless.

Hi Everyone. It is another sunny but chilly morning here in South Carolina.  We are only to get into the mid-50's this afternoon.  I got off to a slow start this morning. I just took my last antibiotic, thank goodness, so hopefully in a day or two will start feeling a little more energetic.  There is nothing pressing on the schedule for today and plan to stay home all day.  Scott, Jennifer, and Jennifer's visiting friend, Elizabeth will be out this evening and we will be having tuna casserole as the main dish for our dinner.

Carol, I hope the generic pill works for your allergy. I have taken an allergy pill everyday for quite a few years.  It sure has been a long time since I have had a good sticky cinnamon roll.  We did appreciate Jennifer picking up our grocery order and brining it out to the house.

Judy, interesting information on why children don't wear seat belts on school buses.  Glad you were feeling a little better yesterday and hope today is even better.

Carol

Good Day all.  I tried to get a picture of the large reddish moon earlier and could not get the Kindle to work.  Instead, I have a super dark background and heard myself talking on a video.  So, that didn't start my day very well.  Kinda off my rocker to be standing in the dark, looking for critters  and trying to take a photo.

I made the pizza casserole last night and also marinated Teriyaki sauce chicken & cooked everything but will warm it up for noon a cousin's house. There will be eight of us - because our oldest son and wife are taking time off work to visit.  Those two return to Colorado by June and we have enjoyed having them within an hour and half drive.

Judy:  If they could make a quick release to those seat belts - understand your concern and you know more about the buses than I do. Are you and John feeling a little better today?

JohnB

I think I would like to weigh in on the subject of seat belts on school buses. This is from the view point of a bus driver. I have over 50 kids on my bus when everyone shows up for school. 27 of those are kids below the grade 4 level. and I have a large group of Junior and senior kindergarten. The younger kids do not generally have the skill set to do up or release seatbelts. We have vans who transport students as well and the parents have to strap them into the van and a teacher has to get them out. Drivers are instructed not to do up or release the seatbelts for these kids. the design of seatbelts are such that they cross areas of the body that are sensitive and it leaves the driver vulnerable to being accused of inappropriate touching. This would be a much bigger problem on school buses due to the shear numbers. Also the buses have been greatly upgraded when it comes to safety. The seatbacks are higher and much better padded to protect the students on the bus. Also in an emergency evacuation seatbelts could be a great hindrance to safely get the out of the bus. Also the driver would not be able to ensure that all the students wold stay buckled up, thereby leaving the driver liable if anything happens. According to statistics from 1992 to 2001 approximately 2 million students attend Ontario schools and 40% of them ride on buses.  Yet only an amazingly low number of students sustain injuries while riding school buses. That calculates out to 800000 students ride buses daily and only 336 per year sustain injuries due to being involved in collisions with other vehicles. The school bus industry has an amazing safety record due to high safety standards and continuous training. I for one teach drivers defensive driving which is a requirement in our board district. Every driver has to have a refresher course every 3 years. In addition there is ongoing safety training throughout the year at safety meetings. These statistics were taken from the years 1992 to 2001. So in summary to calculate it out.
800000 students time 188 school days per year equals 150400000 travel on buses per year. Of those only 336 per year sustain injuries due to collisions. pretty small percentage. I seriously doubt that seatbelts would improve much on that.

Another long day.  It is early however I am going for a shower and hopefully to sleep early.

If you have been watching our Provincial politics, We are in a mess, both provincially and Federally.  Justin Trudeau has proven his incompetence federally and we lost our provincial leader due to allegations by unknown women.  It feels like the provincial Liberals are throwing everything at the coming election to decimate the conservatives.  The election is 15 weeks.  I am asking the people please pray that God's mighty hand settle down on our interim leader and he can follow the way God wants in our province.  Vic (the interim leader is a good man we know him well) has major work to do under the present climate in Ontario.

Hi Everyone.  Just going to check in today as really not feeling up to sitting and writing.  Yesterday was a miserable day of constant coughing and I spent almost the entire day and evening in bed.  Then when Pat went to bed I moved to my easy chair and finally sometime after 4:30 this morning the coughing settled down and I was able to get a few hours of sleep.  I am still hacking away today but not as bad as yesterday and will spend the day resting.

Carol

Good Day!

Hello John B:  I understand and certainly being able to evacuate in the quickest manner would be best.  Do hope you and Judy are doing well - it would be nice to see you post in here too.  Take care.

Judy B:  Thanks for your update - we do not get much news of our northern friends political issues. Prayers for common sense.  We have made many mistakes in our city and state politics - this country seems to not want to work for their income any more - tons and tons on welfare when they are able bodies.  Our parents would not understand this kind of greedy thinking.

Larry:  Coughing can go on much past the cure of a cold - I hope you can sleep better tonight.

We visited with 2 cousins and their spouses yesterday - I drove while Don slept.  Returned back here and found that javelinas have messed up the yard at night once again.

I really need to find some stronger allergy pills so will search that out today.  Need to ask that church would put in a plea for people to stop wearing perfume - it irritates both Don and myself so there must be others too.  Flu and coughs are rampant here and we try to go to a meeting - still people come in and cough & cough.  I cannot figure what they are thinking.

Judy B:  I wrote a note to only knit 1 and purl 1 right on the yarn - maybe that is what is needed for me to stop and think before messing up the knitting.   ::)

Janet:  Are you getting ready for your trip - soon?  It sounds like a wonderful trip - so interesting.

Marilyn

I am finally back. My computer went into the shop and they had to p;ull out the hard drive, to back up my  files then reinstall a clean version of Windows 10, put all my files back into my computer and I got it back yesterday, minus an arm and a leg I brought it  home and started downloading my programs, I still have my PSP program to install.

Today is hospital vist day for Freckles and I,  yesterday a friend and I went to the schools to schedule the furry friend scholol programs for ech one. I still have one my school to go to on Monday.

I will try to catch up on the reading to see what I have missed.

Hi Everyone.  It is a beautiful and sunny day here and we are to get to the mid-50's again this afternoon.  I had to sleep in my easy chair again last night as couldn't get into a position to stop coughing and was able to get several hours of sleep.  However the cough is no better this morning and I already exhausted from coughing.  So this will just be another day to stay home and rest.  I just don't feel up to making individual comments again today.  Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Hi Everyone.  It is chilly, overcast morning here in South Carolina and won't get too warm today.  I seem to be feeling a bit better today.  This is the second day of having the antibiotic completed.  I will not win any races today.  I am planning on going to Wifesaver's later this afternoon to pick up our main meal of the day so Pat doesn't have to deal with cooking.  I did spend another night in my easy chair and had a pretty good nights sleep.

Judy, I agree with you and guess we each have to make our own decisions when to seek help.  I didn't delay when this came on and have been to the doctor twice with the same results that my lungs were clear and that was my main concern.  So far the cough seems less persistent today.

Jacqueline

Larry Hanna...
...I am guessing your reply post was meant for me and not Judy but...I am happy to hear you have seen a GP, at least it is now added onto your medical history for future refference...I do know that some " men " are very stubborn when it comes to going to their Doctors and will put off by making any excuse they can find in not going to see them...I am - was not implying you are one of them... ;D

Larry John is still hacking and coughing.  It has been since the beginning of the new year.  He and I have been seen by doctors, only to be told it is a virus and we have to wait it out.  It is the "waiting it out" that is so frustrating.  Thing is we have 2 different viruses going on.  I have a sore throat with sinus congestion and he has that wicked cough. We are still "waiting it out".  A trip to Florida would sure help burn it out!

We have had more snow this weekend still snowing today.  It is beautiful walking up our road to the bush, so quiet that you can hear the snow falling!

I will be back later!

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone.  I awoke to a rainy morning. Still feeling very tired today so will just take thing easy and probably stay in my easy chair as don't feel up to being in my office.  I just plan on napping, watching some golf this afternoon and then watching the Super Bowl this evening.  Pat plans on fixing a tuna casserole for our main meal and will likely fix it at noon as has a little more energy in the morning than the late afternoons.

Jackie, my mind isn't functioning on all cylinders during this sickness.  You are probably right in saying I can be a little stubborn.  :)

Judy, this hacking and coughing just doesn't seem to go away.  I am not coughing as much but plenty and it has me worn out.  It sounds like I have the same type of thing that John does as have never had a sore throat but can't seem to cough up anything.
