DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

Devotional of Al Moak's

Psalm 1

This first song reminds the worshippers of the two - and only two - kinds of people living in this world.  It reminds them of those whos, on the one hand love the Lord God of Israel and of those on the other hand who don't.  In this song, then, the leader, standing at the temple on Mount Zion, leads the people, early in the morning, to sing out an exhortation to God's covenant poeople to love and worship their Lord.

It begins with a clear statement of the fact that those who love the Lord and desire to please Him should want nothing to do with the ideas and influence of those who don't.  They shouldn't walk with them, stand with them, or even sit with them in conversation.  Simply put, they can't travel in that crowd, because they don't want to be influenced to think and act as they do.

The song goes on to remind them that the Lord blesses those who thus avoid the ungodly, and it also reminds them that they've begun to please their God by means of that stance.  By way of application, as we in our day consider the relationship we have to Jehovah, we need also to understand that we too ought not to make the people of this world our close and continuous companions. (1 Cor. 5:10).  We can't avoid interaction, but we can avoid their thoughts and actions as though they were our own.

Then, having begun by describing that negative stance, the leader next turns to a distinct positive.  He sings, "But his delight is in the Law  of the Lord ("Law" = the entire Bible), and in His Law he meditates day and night."  In saying this, he's actually painting a picture of those who love God: they're people who gladly hear His Word and eagerly consider what it means for them.  Simply put, they meditate on it day and night.  That is, they consider, even in their daydreaming, how the Law might apply in their daily lives.

The people are next led to sing about how great God's blessing is upon those who live that way. He says, "He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper."  How encouraging! Godly people will be be the ultimately successful people!  They'll be Like trees planted by refreshing, strengthening water, trees that grow, blossom, and produce delicious fruit!  I believe that we can confidently conclude that those who make it a habit to consider how they may please their Lord will abundantly succeed in actually doing so!

But that's not so for the ungodly, for those who don't care to consider how to please the Lord.  Such people may at times think they're prospering in life, and they may in fact think that getting ahead financially and socially is "where it's at," but in the sight of the Lord and in view of the reality of His eternity they are total losers. They'll have to stand one day before a holy God to answer for their attitudes and behavior, and they won't be present when God gathers the "congregation of the righteous" to Himself for eternal blessedness.

Finally, the song reminds the worshippers of an ever-present reality.  It tells us that "the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish."  In other words, God CARES - He's not merely "out there somewhere," paying no attention when we're trying to please Him, but He's constantly present with us!

But, dear reader, what about you? Is He the focus of your life?  You can be sure of one thing: you'll never be sorry to have made the Lord and His Word the center of your attention!

Blessed Assurance (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/blessedassurance.mid)
(Click to hear music)

Words by Fanny Crosby
Music by Phoebe P. Knapp

Hebrews 10:22
"Let us draw near with a true heart
in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience,
and our bodies washed with pure water
."

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Refrain
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Perfect submission, all is at rest;
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

Refrain
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Greetings Jacqueline   When you say a privately owned stretch of road, is it called an unadopted road, in that it is up to the residents to see to maintenance of the road.  I know on the Island, similar homes, still see the local authority clearing the roads.  Usually because the residents are sixty plus in age.

We are lucky that we don't get the severe weather conditions here very often.  When I lived in London, many was the time we were shovelling snow of our driveway.

Ellie...
...our long road is sort of in two halves, the first length of road is not private, ramblers and hikers can and do use it to the centre, then the second steeper downhill part is our parkhomes private piece of road which is owned by the parkhomes owner, we dont get to see him but the maintenance is done by our parkhome estate manager who does live on our site...hope this explains it better...

Judy B...
...thank you for starting our brand new week off, let us hope this week fares everyone a tad better than the week before...
I never knew Al Moak but it is good that his memory lives on...

Larry Hanna...
...I hope you are now over the worst...and on the road to recovery...

Hi Everyone.  We start the day overcast but it is up into the 50's but will get into the low 60's today.  I did attend my meeting yesterday morning and then had a quiet afternoon and evening.  I managed to watch 4 different basketball games featuring very good teams at the top of the standings.  Today I will leave in a few minutes to attend Sunday School and then will attend Church which follows.  I have missed the last several weeks so it will be nice to be back among my friends.  This afternoon I will rest and watch a basketball game or two and then this evening will watch the Superbowl.  I just hope it is a good game.

Janet, sorry to read that you had lost your deal friend Maxine.  That move to Missouri must have been too much for her.  Can you mail bottles without putting them inside a box?  I am sure if you made them they must be very nice and decorative.  Glad you are getting your car back and that the repair was under warranty.

Rebot, Good morning.  I hope all is well on the Isle.

Jackie, good to see your snow has mostly melted as you should be able to get out when needed. I am pretty much feeling like my old self although have a bit of regaining strength, what I have back.  I can now at least resume my normal activities and not require help to get places.

Carol, I really spend very little time outside and our temps usually are above freezing during the winter other than a few hours at night and early morning and often that isn't the case either.   I had a chuckle out of you brushing the teeth of the calf.  I don't think I ever heard of anyone doing that but you were sure taking good care of it.  I always loved the little calves and they sure didn't stay that way very long.

Judy, thanks for getting us started on a fresh page for February.  It was nice to read one of Al's writing on the Psalms again.  He has been gone for a long time now but his work goes on through his writing. Fanny Crosby wrote some beautiful hymns in her day with Blessed Assurance being one of the best.

Greetings Larry  It is raining here at the moment, but much milder temperatures on the island today.  By your longer post, you must be feeling a bit better.

Larry, I am just coming in to thank you for the advice about the tea. It really does help.... but have found over the past 20+ years, that your advice is sound.

I am finally after 4 weeks of having to sleep in a recliner,

able to carefully sit up in bed and doze the night away.  Have ordered a new bed that is supposed to help and it will arrive in about 10 days.

I spent years of being treated by chiropractors and physio but chiropractors can not help as spine damaged by arthritis and that only makes things worse. The laser treatment has stopped the excruciating pain and I can live with this.  Like Pastor Al once did I am going to have to wear compression socks and in time will once again be able to hop around with my cane.

Our medical does not allow for any of the above and my income is very small, so I am so grateful to my daughter,s Physio Therapist for huge discount and fitting me into her crowded schedule.  Wendy has had to go to her for 20 years since the car accident, along with very painful shots in her neck and back from a specialist in Victoria. Remember how we used to pray for our daughters along with prayers for Beth?  Wendy can still use those prayers, if anyone is interested.

I have been blessed with the most kind and caring daughter and SIL. Still believe that all things happen for a reason and that
God will continue to guide my life. Life has become a scary place for the elderly due to lack of facilities and medical care. I plan to continue to trust in god.

God Bless,
Liz.

Hi Everyone.  Just checking in this morning.  It is beautiful here and about 45 degrees headed up into the low 70's.  I have a full morning so don't have time to comment on postings and updated my day yesterday when I wrote yesterday afternoon, which was to attend Church, bring something home for our main meal, and then watch sports, which I did until the Super Bowl was over around 10 am.  I'll be back later this afternoon.

Greetings Larry   A dry day on the Island and milder than it has been for about a week or more.  Going out soon to college, hubby will be OK on his own.  What is the Super Bowl??

Hi Everyone.  I have had a nice rest after my busy morning and so now have the time to go back and read what was shared since I posted yesterday.

Liz, glad to hear the Chamomile tea is helping you.  It does seem to work for me so plan on having a cup right before I retire each night.  Are you getting an adjustable bed?  That is what Pat and I have and each side can be raised or lowered as they are twin size beds put together on a king size frame.  I sleep with my head elevated quite a bit and my legs also elevated some.  Pat also used chiropractors over all the years of our marriage.  However, after a series of treatments here he told he had nothing else to help her.  Recently she got a TENS unit and that has really given her relief from the pain.  Glad to read that the laser treatment stopped the worst pain.  I have worn compression socks for several years and they do help with the swelling of the ankles also still get some each day in my legs.  I remember that your daughter and granddaughter both deal with a lot of pain.  I am including you and your family in my prayers.  I think our country is trying to down the same path with facilities and medical care that you describe and I don't like it.  I read recently that half of the American doctors are considering leaving medical practice due to our current situation and many small hospitals have had to close.

Rebot, after rain I am sure the dry day on the Island is welcome.  The Super Bowl is the culmination of our American style pro football for the season and it is a big honor and financially rewarding for the team and players to win the Super Bowl.

Greetings Larry  I am none the wiser about the Super Bowl.  If it is rewarding financially, it must be money they make. if it is small amounts of money, that is acceptable.  I read of sports people in the UK and around the world getting fantastic amounts of money in sport, which is wrong.  When I see and know of people struggling to feed their families .

Hi Everyone. It is a beautiful sunny and pleasant temperature day.  I was late getting up this morning as didn't sleep well last night even though I got a lot of rest.  Our calendar is clear for today so think later today Pat and I will go to Walmart and get our last Shingles shot if they have the serum.  Pat also needs to pick up some prescriptions.  I hope to get an afternoon nap.

Rebot, I suppose you could think about the Super Bowl as your World Cup in soccer.  I agree there is a huge amount of money in professional sports but rather than the owners of the teams getting the large portion of it I am happy that the athletes can make their share of it as it is their skills and talents that make the teams good.  One of the things that has put so much money in pro sports is the huge amount of money the leagues make from television contracts.  Their careers may end in a moment with an injury,  A lot of the players do use some of their money for foundations that help less fortunate kids, especially minority kids.  We often don't hear much about that aspect of their lives.  Particularly in American Football the injuries they receive from the hard hits over and over and concussions make their lives after retirement filled with pain and often seems to shorten their lives.  I think people gravitate to sports as a diversion from all of the negatives and problems of the world.  Unfortunately, very often the players getting these huge multi-million dollar salaries have no clue about how to manage their money and it is soon gone.

Liz:  Prayers for your daughter Wendy.  It is hard to watch a child having medical issues - we know from experience that is ongoing too.  May Wendy receive the best of best care and comfort plus heal from her illness.

Rebot:  I am reminded of the highly paid sports figures and also very highly paid actors (who believe they can speak politically in our country).  So much money misused according to my thoughts but sometimes they donate to very needy causes.  Do you have the issue with immigrants clamoring to reach your shores?  I am wondering what a small country could do if you ever had a similar crisis we have with our borders.  There are shiploads of Chinese landing in the western states that no one really talks about and of course, thousands now marching to our southern border through Mexico first.  I ask myself "what is a Christian to think about this issue?  What about the reality of our children and grandchildren facing thousands more in the work force, hospital care and education - they have no money and they do need assistance.  I am not asking you in particular but this is a struggle of decision making that will affect our country's future.  What are your thoughts and what do your neighbors and friends think of our future?  They are not all children and families.

I had to step away - Don had a nosebleed but all is well now.   It may just be allergies causing this....

Hi Everyone. We are to have another 76 degree day here with only a small chance of rain late this afternoon.  Pat and were able to get our second and final Shingles shots yesterday afternoon.  They were very busy so we had to wait quite awhile but we wanted to get that over.  We then drove downtown and enjoyed a Chinese Buffet.  I have a friend who will be here to work with me and tonight is Wednesday night dinner at the Church and the opportunity to spend time with Scott.  It is the popular Taco night with the ice cream bar.

Rebot, it sounds like it is wise to carry your umbrella with you most of the time.  It is nice that we can remain inside on days it isn't pleasant to be out in.  I look forward to your answers regarding the questions that Carol has posed.

Carol, it is beyond me why just because someone gets some fame as a movie star or athlete people think they know what they are talking about politically.  I guess it is easier for some people to just follow what they are told rather than think for themselves.  They certainly have the right to their own opinions as I am to mine.  I hadn't heard of the Chinese landing in the Western states as all the attention seems to be on our Southern border.

I don't know what "got into me" and my post yesterday.  I try to "fly low" and keep issues to myself. An apology to anyone who thinks I was over the top.

Continuing on the reading of the bible in less than a year.  I hope to finish before the month of May with cousins coming and our packing to go home.  Home is getting a SNOWmageddon apparently today.  They have had some big storms this year and the water table should be good for all including the farmers to the east.

Larry:  We really like Asian buffets but it is usually too much to eat and you can't take it home.  We found an Asian restaurant here and we order a meal at noon time then take half home for our dinner.   It is so good and makes two to three meals for me.  Do you have the Taco bar right at the church?  Both Don and I grew up in the Lutheran church which were famous for basement meals - I sure miss it.  I agree, who cares what everyone think - we all have a brain to process the news and try to listen to two sides of the issues.  Border patrol will tell you that people from all over the world are entering.

Rebot:  Special apology to you - I sometimes type faster than I think.  It is really interesting to "know" you and learn about you and your community.

I dropped Don off for a free lecture on war history - a retired general has been giving these interesting talks.  My morning is to go to a Dermatologist for medication on a really sore hand - I pulled weeds from the yard and have been red and itchy for three weeks, nothing is helping.  This is desert area - in Arizona and who knows what is in the foliage.  Creepy.

Hi Everyone.  I have had a nice afternoon rest and now comfortably situated in my easy chair.  My doctor this morning basically told me I need to cut back on the few things I am able to do in terms of getting out and about.  She told me to stay home for a few weeks.  I guess I am sicker than I realized.  My main regret is I am going to have to miss Sunday School and Church and the Wednesday night dinners at Church.  I have made a decision that if and when I feel up to being more active I will probably only go to Sunday School because I can always listen to the full Church service on line and the two plus hours involved in attending both is really too much.  I am also going to have to give up my Thursday coffee group and a number of other things.  My doctor also referred me to a kidney specialist as I do have some serious kidney disease.  I will not bore you with any more details and I will adjust to these significant changes in my life although I am sort of in a state of shock as didn't realize my heart and kidneys were this bad. I will just take it as another phase of life and take it One Day at a Time.  My main concern is that this is going to put more strain on Pat.

Carol, I bet you are glad you are in Arizona and not Colorado with all the snow.  If we go to an Asian restaurant again we need to go to one where we can order from the menu and be able to take part of the meal home as their servings are too big.  We have a fellowship hall where the two serving buffets can be set up and you can go on either side of the line and get your food and that is where the taco bar is set up.  The ice cream is served in the area where they normally set out the desserts.  I have always attended Churches where meals were an important part of fellowship and this Church is no different.

Marilyn, I didn't not that yesterday was your birthday either and appreciate that Jackie mentioned it as certainly want to include a good Birthday greeting to you.

Hi Everyone.  It is another beautiful sunny morning but suppose to be partly or mostly cloudy throughout the day.  We expect to get to 70 degrees this afternoon.    I only got about 4 hours sleep last night as I was fighting shortness of breath all afternoon and night.  Pat suggested I put one of the sofa cushions behind my back in my easy chair and that did help a bit but moving about brought it back.  Enough complaining for today.  Pat made some delicious 15 bean soup in the Instant Pot last evening for our dinner and there was enough left over to have another meal or two.  Our housekeeper is here so by early afternoon we will have a nice clean house.

Marilyn,  Pat orders the groceries on her laptop.  She does not use the Walmart pay app as she no longer is using a smart phone.

Good morning we have snow showers in  the forecast, so far I am only seeing rain. It sure has been cold though. Our house is all electric with base board heating, so the bill has been sky high this winter.  Not much else is new here. I need to go to Walmart for a few groceries.

Marilyn:  Belated Birthday greetings!

Larry:  I am praying for your health recovery and continued messages to all of us.  May you have better sleep in the future nights.

I am using the iPot more and more -and made a beef broth then added vegetables to make more soup.

We have more damage from the pesky Javelinas.   Because we are on a corner, we are responsible for the rocks that are placed between the house and the sidewalk.  The night-roaming animals walk close to the brick wall and pushed rocks down the incline - covering parts of the sidewalk.  Our responsibility.  I picked up pretty heavy rocks yesterday and will keep picking up more before we get a letter of warning to clean up the property.  Don can't do this - I can  fix this if I take my time - yes, I am careful not to fall into the rocks/   Just complaining - thanks for letting me complain.

Other news from the children is all is good.  We have prayed over several major issues and so forth.

This morning has been filled with a good amount of cleaning and organizing - checking any outdated lotions or pills.  We are driving for a few days just to visit with a cousin and wife plus our oldest son & wife will be in southern California so we hope to spend some visiting time with them.  There was an earthquake in southern CA near the Marine Base and then we never heard any more news on that issue.

Hello, everyone!  The system lost me again, and I've been busy, but today I thought....It seems like a long time since I posted on CP.  Wonder what's up?  And then I had a heck of a time finding my way in again.  :-\  >:(   But I'm here!

Have read all the nice posts, questions, speculations, answers and comments, so I'm caught up again.  Nobody mentioned me, so I guess I wasn't missed!  ;)

Today I went to a really fun class at the Main Artery. We made some lovely pendant necklaces.  (I posted a pic on Facebook if you'd like to see them, also there are pictures of the class as well.)

I also started a once-a-week class for four weeks there in Watercolor.  Lots of fun, so much to learn!  I'm surprised it's such a struggle for me, as I love painting so much. But WC is not my forte, I really prefer  oils.  So it's a challenge!

We had such beautiful hoarfrost (frozen fog) on everything here, and it lasted for two days before it warmed up enough to melt it.  Worth the bitter cold to see the beauty of it, and the wind wasn't blowing!  But it really howled today, and was very cold again.

Larry, so good to read you're feeling better, but so concerned about what your Doctor said.  You're so good about not worrying, so that's a plus.  I'll keep praying for you, my friend!

My back is hurting, need to get in a different position for a while.  And I hope the system doesn't spit me out again!!   ???

Hi Everyone.  It is going to be another cool and cloudy day.  This will just be another quiet day of rest.  Yesterday was like the days before where my my concern was being able to get my breath.  I did watch a lot of basketball yesterday and expect to do the same today.  I am going to encourage Pat to get in the car and perhaps go through a drive thru to get our Sunday main meal.  Unfortunately my appetite is not good at the moment and I am not eating very much.  I made a decision last evening that I am going to get another Chromebook, which is very lightweight, as my laptop with the board to set it on have become too heavy.  The one I think I may get weights only 2.6 pounds, is very thin and has a lighted keyboard, which would be helpful.  There also is no maintenance on it as that is all done by Google.  I have had a Chromebook before so know what I will be getting.

Marilyn, your heating bill may be high but it hopefully has kept you warm.  We had hot water baseboard heat in the duplex we lived in in Anchorage and it was very good heat.  I hope the snow stays away from you.

Carol, I intend to keep posting here as long as possible. Glad you are enjoying your Instant Pot.  Sorry to see you are continuing to have problems with the Javelinas and I am sure you don't need to be lifting rocks either.  It sounds like you have a nice little trip planned.

Janet, you tease as you know we miss your postings.  However, in this discussion several do not post every day so I really hadn't become concerned about you but glad to see your post yesterday.  I will try to remember to check out your Facebook page and look at the necklaces.  Glad you are now treating yourself to the painting classes and having fun.  The feeling better seems to be a momentary thing that doesn't last very long.

This was in one of the emails I get daily and wanted to share it with you:

THE PREACHER'S WIFE
 (Author Unknown)

Our preacher is a man of God,
 He truly loves the Lord;
 He gives the greatest sermons,
 His congregation's never bored.

He quotes the scriptures without looking,
 He shares the Good Book without end;
He knows each member of the church,
And calls each one his friend.

He constantly is working,
 Both at the church and in his home;
 He is very dedicated,
And spends much time with Christ alone.

He spends hours on his sermons,
 Which are truly God inspired;
He works almost around the clock,
And is often worn and tired.

While we give him due respect and love,
 His wife is often missed;
Though a sweet and caring, loving soul,
She's not always on our list.

Oh what a shame ... we lose so much,
 For this woman's full of love;
And when our preacher married her,
Was he not directed from above?

She knows her Bible just as well,
 And with such gentleness,
Has that woman's quality of warmth,
That a man oft doesn't possess.

She can embrace, and soothe, and hold,
 Can even offer kisses;
Sometimes this kind of love's required,
And a man can't always do this.

While our preacher is God's shepherd,
 His wife excels in little lambs;
We need her just as much as him,
All this is per God's plan.

She stands behind her husband,
 Like a shadow, ever there;
 Like fresh air, always needed,
Of which no one is aware.

She will put her arms around him,
 When he is down and blue;
Why comfort him, this man of God?
 Because he's human, too.

She performs her mundane duties,
 Like pressing clothes and washing shirts;
 Because she is so eager,
To have him look just right at church.

When services are over,
 And he is waiting by the door;
We shake his hand and thank him,
 Sometimes she's smilingly ignored.

She never seeks attention,
 But is content to aid and serve;
 With a quiet consecration,
She holds her talents in reserve.

So, all you members of the church,
What I am trying hard to tell ...
That when God chose this preacher's wife,
'Twas for the rest of us, as well.

Show that you appreciate her,
 At the church door, shake her hand;
 Hug her around her shoulders,
And behind her, take your stand.

:Janet:   :) Good day to you!

I just saw a picture of Pat and hubby in the top corner.  Nice photo!  Gentle hug to you, PAT!

Liz:  It is wonderful that you have a daughter close -

I have been going through stuff - to donate or to trash.  Yesterday a neighbor, we have never met, stopped and helped move a few rocks - this job could get finished in a few days but there are some rocks I cannot move.  Probably, the Javelinas will be here and undo all of my effort.

Larry:  Are you breathing more regularly now?  It sounds like a good idea for you to find some ways to have some meals prepared for the two of you. I do not know what a Chromebook is - would it be comparable to a Kindle Fire?  Don has a mini iPad and I am on a 2nd Kindle because the new version was under $40 and is fine for me.  I like to type on a laptop though and certainly search and print from a laptop.  Thanks for "A Preacher's Wife".

I can't find the picture of Pat and hubby!  :'(
Ruth, I forgot to mention yesterday that I do still pray for Wendy.  I know folks on here prayed faithfully for Beth through the years until God called her home, and I appreciate it so much.  I also pray you will soon feel stronger again.

We spent the whole afternoon visiting with our kids, and I really needed it.  I took the Valentine bottles for the little girls and they sure liked them.

Larry, no, the bottles don't have to go in a box, they can just be mailed "bare."  That's part of the fun!

Little Chelsea was telling me that she liked the little teddy bear that was in hers best of all, then stopped suddenly, shook her head and said, "No, I like it second best.  I like best of all that YOU made it for me!" What a little sweetheart!

Carol, do be careful lifting those rocks.  Stinkin' pigs! So sorry you have this problem.  Hugs to you!

I started the washer, need to go move the clothes to the dryer now.  See you all tomorrow!

Hi Everyone.  We have an overcast, drizzly and chilly day today.  In a few minutes Pat will drive me to the Podiatrist for a standing appointment.  She is going to let me out at the door and then stay with the car until I call her when I am finished.  This appointment usually takes no more than 30 minutes. That will be pretty much for the day.  I did have a good nights sleep last night for which I am grateful.  I did order my new Chromebook computer and a new laptop table for it.  They both weight just a little over 2 pounds each.  I hope to have it tomorrow or Wednesday.

Janet, no my breathing has not improved and I am really weak.  It took me about 30 minutes just to get dressed this morning.  The Chromebook runs on the android operating system rather than Windows and has only a small amount of internal storage as it work off of the Cloud.  Google keeps the software up to date and deals with any viruses so it is basically maintenance free.  The Kindle also uses a version of Android but this is actually a computer and the one I purchased is also a tablet as has a touch screen and the lid/keyboard rotates 365 degrees.  This one also comes with a lighted keyboard.

Janet, the little pictures we see on the site rotate through a lot of different pictures.  I did see your Facebook page with the lovely necklaces you had made and must say very nice and pretty.  I am surprised the Post Office can handle or allows a glass bottle to be shipped without being boxes.  What a sweet thing for Chelsea to say.

BIRTHDAY WISHES LARRY HANNA...
Title: Re: Thoughts for the Month ~ February

Hi Everyone. We have a damp and cloudy morning and some heavy rain showers and winds are predicted for a 4 hour windows late this afternoon.  I ended up having to spend the night in my easy chair and finally got maybe a couple of hours of sleep in it.  This cough associated with my heart was bothering me last night and I knew it would keep Pat awake.  I have only two things that I must do this morning and the first is to meet with my friend to work with him for an hour.  Following that whenever Pat is up and ready she will take me downtown for a quick blood draw in preparation for an appointment with my GP early Friday morning.

Jackie, just yesterday evening a member of my Sunday School brought over a meal for us and visited with us maybe 30 minutes or so.  I really enjoyed his visit but it took a toll on me as I was having breathing problems all day long.  It was worth it.  Several men from the Church have called to check up on me, which I certainly appreciated, although telephone conversations leave me pretty breathless.  Right now I can't attend either my Sunday School or Church as not able to physically get their.  Thank you for the beautiful card and I try to live by the verse on it.  Today I turn 78.

Happy Birthday Larry. I turned 79 on the 6th. We are getting older by the day. I don't want to say that we are OLD. ha ha.

Yesterday Freckles and I along with two more Furry friend teams went to a school to teach  K-2 grades  on the responsibility of pet ownership and safety around dogs that are loose. We did the morning classes and three  other teams did the afternoon classes.

Hi Everyone.  It is a truly beautiful day here today with sun and breezy weather.  Yesterday we set a new high record for our area in our area of 80 degrees but it was rainy.  They predicted we would get some severe thunderstorms and while we had about an hour of rain late in the day I didn't hear any thunder.  I did get a good night of bed sleep last night, which always helps.  Scott came out and spend an hour or so with us and brought me some birthday cookies.  I have a light schedule for today with a friend coming at 10 am to work with me for an hour.  Sometime today my new Chromebook, computer-tablet is being delivered so I will be spending a little time getting it set up. Pat and Scott plan on going to the Wednesday night dinners at the Church and I will have a little piece of the dinner I had a couple of days ago at Diablos.

Marilyn, while my mind still feels young I have to say my body is saying something else.  I bet the kids just love to have the Furry Friends come to visit their class and that is a good way to teach about pet ownership and safety around dogs.

Rebot, thanks for the birthday and health wishes.  It was just another day as we did nothing special for it as we usually do for birthday but that was fine with me.

Jackie, I can't help you as to the owner of the cocker spaniel.

Rebot, Cimie is Judy's dog,  (Or rather, I think it was Jacqueline who asked about that.

Larry, No, the bottles aren't glass, they are plastic!
To fill them, I cut a "window" in the side, stuffed them with goodies, taped it shut and put the address label over it!  I'm sure glass wouldn't be accepted by the post office.

I was hoping for a better report on how you're feeling, but so happy you can still post and keep us up to date as we all care about you. Sorry I missed wishing you blessings on your birthday, but I do wish you those and happiness every day.  You are just five months my junior.

I got a report on my sister this morning.  She was doing better, wanted to bake a cake, made one from scratch, with her husband doing the stirring and getting some of the ingredients for her.  She was able to stand without too much pain, then when they finished the cake, she went to take a shower--and fell in the bathroom.  :'(  She struck her head on the door jamb, lacerating it and getting a big bruise near her left eye.  Her husband didn't think she needed to go to ER so he didn't take her.  Her doctor was not impressed! She told them anyone over 70 who suffers a fall needs to be checked, when they hit their head, for a brain bleed; and with her fragile bones, she needs an MRI to check for broken bones.  She has an appoint for all that tomorrow; in the meantime isn't able to walk and is in a lot of pain.  I'm sad about this, of course.

I painted a couple little watercolors today, nothing great, but I'm learning......

Jackie, thanks for making that lovely card for our Larry!

Almost time to go to Wednesday night dinner at church--taco stack-ups tonight.  And we will see the sweet little twin girls I made and give them the last two Valentine bottles.

I wish you all refreshing sleep and pleasant dreams!

Hi Everyone. Just a few words today.  I did get my new Chromebook on Wednesday but yesterday it went into a loop that I could not get it to stop.  I called ASUS technical support and the things he told me to do wouldn't stop the loop.  He agreed with me that I should return it to Amazon and request a replacement.  I did request a replacement and it is to be here tomorrow.  Now that is good customer service.  I have the return label and Pat or Scott will have to  drop it off at the UPS store in the next few days. I will read through the postings but don't have the energy today to write individual comments.  I seem to be getting weaker by the day.  Sure glad I don't have to go anywhere for several days.

Greetings Larry  It might be good service that Amazon are replacing the Chromebook, but not good service from either Google or Amazon, if the other one was faulty.  Before the goods leave the factory, quality control should ensure the goods are in working order.

Yes Ellie, same here, after the snow of a week or two ago, they say we are in for some Spring like weather...As my late father often would say..." our God works in mysterious ways..." now who is in charge of our weathers?

Larry Hanna...
... not the news I want to be reading, quoting:  " I seem to be getting weaker by the day.." now I am having serious concerns over you..

I dont know whether I posted on here but I had an MS fall the other day, bent my leg back as I landed full weight on it.. Only one way for us MS'ers to get up, on our knees and haul ourselves up by grabbing hold of something solid, which meant I had to scoot my backside along the floor, I tried crawling on my knees but made my knees too sore, the flooring, the carpet...Richard came to my aid from his bedroom, 8.am, offered me a front pull up but we cant get up that way...

Hi Everyone.  Just checking in again today.  I finally had to admit to myself yesterday that I am pretty sick and the chance of getting much better aren't very good.  I don't mean this to sound pessimist for I certainly have hope that I am wrong.  Yesterday I had Pat bring in from the garage the little rollator we have and I am finding it helpful.  Using my arms and legs seem to really tire me and bring on the panting from shortness of breath that sometimes I have trouble getting to stop.  I tell you this not to generate sympathy for myself but that you may better understand why I will probably seldom add any other general comments in these discussions.  If you see me check in each day you know I am still around.  I will read all of your postings each day.  Thank you for your prayers and thoughts.

Good Saturday morning to you all.
I woke up with the idea this was Sunday, and when I remembered it's Saturday I felt I'd been given the gift of a whole new day!  :)

Larry, I am very concerned for you.  You would be the last one seeking "sympathy" but I know you realize that you're very important to each of us here on CP. And I also know you appreciate prayers, which continue in your behalf. I have always felt blessed by our friendship, and had hoped to make it to see you, as you know.  If your home-going is approaching, we will wish you godspeed, as we know where your eternal home is, but we will sorely miss you.  Please have Scott or Pat keep us posted if the time comes when you cannot do it.  Sending loads of love to you from my little corner of Kansas. <3

I had great plans to bake some Keto Bread, and something sweet from one of the Keto cookbooks I got.  But I'm stymied at every turn.  EVERY recipe in them calls for yet another strange ingredient I don't have; this after ordering a bunch of stuff from Amazon they call for. :-\
:(   >:(  So I have made yet another list!

Our weather has gotten cold again, to stay this way for three days at least, with snow, frost, and wintry mix predicted.  So thankful for a warm, cozy home!

Darrel and I had a Date Night last night for belated Valentine's Day.  Didn't leave town, but ate at a place we've only been to once before (his meal was good, mine was only mediocre.)  Then we went to the movie, which was The Upside. (We still have a movie theater here, one screen!) If anyone is interested, that's a very good, uplifting movie!  We need to have a date night at least once a month!!  Why don't we?? :-\

Jackie, so sorry about your fall.  One thing I work on at the gym is getting up off the floor by myself.  I know you don't have that opportunity, but it's so important for all of us as we get older.  Strength and balance!  Hope your poor knees are feeling better today.

Carol, I'm missing you!  Hope all is well at your place. Maybe you're having guests again, or seeing your kids.

We made plans twice to go to Florida to visit Grandson Mark and wife; had to cancel both times because Beth was so sick.  So we're trying to reschedule again.  Hard to find a good time with their schedules, he flies and she teaches school, will be out one week in May then goes back to teach summer school.

Blessings to each of you, and prayers for health.

You are  right Janet, Larry Hanna I know is not seeking sympathy, that is not his nature, just putting us in the picture of how serious he is now taking his illness...I believe he is preparing us for what he maybe considering the inevitable...Larry do not ever forget that miracles do, and still very much happen...and you of course just maybe one of them...

Today we have no sun, nor rain, but we do have a whole lot of mist, or is that fog? around...Or as my late mother and gran would have called it..." a real pea-souper..."

Larry I do pray that you are feeling better, I am praying for you and know that God answers our prayers.

I good friend lost her husband yesterday. I hurt with her at her loss of this wonderful man. They a sad  are members of our church, she is the one who took me to the hospital for my eye surgery and sat with me.

At our age it seems like we are losing so many, I sure though I was going to be one of them the night I wnet to the hospital with the AFIB attack. I felt so alone laying there in ER with no one there who cared.

Hi Everyone.  Just checking to for today. I don't think I feel up to going to my office this morning so will spend it in my easy chair and resting in bed this afternoon for awhile and then back to my easy chair.  I got the replacement Chromebook yesterday but have decided I am just not up to getting it set up and learning the Chromebook operating system.  So I will repay the cost of the return to Amazon and just chalk it up to not being one of my better decisions.

Please don't feel that you need to mention me each day since I am not contributing anything to the discussion.  I will try to post something each day so you won't worry about me.  I plan on being around for quite awhile but seem to be getting a bit weaker each day so looking forward to a turn around.

Larry:  A gentle hug for you whenever you have time to read the notes.

Janet:  It sounds like you had a nice Valentine Day - I never know what day that falls on but that is OK - have a lot of super days.

We drove from Tucson to Carlsbad, California and visited with oldest son and wife (who were there working for a week).  Heavy rains for several days and one last day we were able to get to the Pacific ocean to listen to the roar of the waves and walk the beach.  So calming - a wonderful time of thanksgiving and quiet.

Driving back yesterday was the worst traffic and we chose to leave on a Saturday because it should be lighter traffic.  Not so.  The drivers are insane - tailgating and so rude.  They have ruined the experience of visiting southern California to us - forever now.  Our son and wife left early for a drive back to Colorado and then to their home in Montana.  Otherwise, we did enjoy some fresh salads on our trip. We drove straight back yesterday and could not find room at any place to eat so I bought two hot dogs at a gas station and we sat in the car sipping our water.  So very happy to get off the road.

Jackie:  Sorry about your fall - that is so scary anymore.  I fell on rocks at the beach but it was a slant uphill so I didn't fall far.

We spotted a large javelina and a little one in the yard last night - I opened the door and shouted and clapped my hands so hard that now I have a blood blister. Now is the time of the year - we have Don's cousin and wife arriving next week for a couple of days.  Our daughter for five days and then my cousin and wife - later a couple who bring a little RV and last time they slept in the  RV.

We can not get in for our haircuts until almost 5 today so I have the slow cooker going on low.  Another rain and fog day here and I hope all is better next week for company arrives.

I found a newspaper clipping of mom and dad's wedding.  They were married in a chapel and all I have ever thought was they were married in grandparents house.  Most interesting is the newspaper clipping on the back mentions a treaty or good relations we (USA) had with Japan and this was one year before the Pearl Harbor attack.  Really - that is what the papers were quoting from politicians.

That news clipping was in a bible the folks gave me upon confirmation.  The type has always been so small.  I found attached pages with genealogy - family members that I asked mom and she told me to write it in the book.  Amazing to see this today.

Larry:  Thinking of you....

I am taking a break - There is a bag to fill for donations for Veterans and I have the clothing pieces freshly washed and ironed.  Phone calls to make as we want to be sure visitors are not overlapping here.  This spring will be a "doozy).  Rebot- I think that means crazy.

The sun is out for the moment.  It is certainly cooler and more than average rain this year -

Carol, so much company! I would be worn to a frazzle.
How do you manage all that?

We need to choose a date for the trip to Florida to visit the grandkids, neither of us is in the mood, I guess.

In doing some searching and rearranging in my studio yesterday, I found a number of things I painted in the past, but had forgotten about. (Yes, I need to dig out more often!)

Now I am headed to my studio again!

Good morning everyone, I don't want to be gone too long, although I am here reading every day sometimes more than once. All is well here, Keith is doing so much better. I will be changing the dressing on his wound when he wakes up, when I changed it on Sunday it looked to be just about closed. I know he will be glad to get rid of the binder he has to wear  24-7.

I will be heading out to the gym  pretty soon, when there is more light outside. Driving  on the side of a curvy hill in the dark  makes me nervous. There are many houses down the embankment and I have seen cars go over the side more than once.Yes we live on the coast of Oregon but  it is no where near flat land.

Greetings Everyone  Nice to see your post Marilyn.  We live  about 500 yards from the start of what the Manx call the Mountain Road.  No lights for about 14 miles, only the cats eyes at the side of the road and the white line down the centre of the road.  Which is useful when very thick mist, which the Mountain has many days in the year.   The cats eyes and white line is a splendid way to see where your going.

Sunny and chilly this morning.  I have a bag of donations ready to give to the Veterans but looked at my calendar and the pick-up is next week.

Marilyn:  Good news that Keith is recovering.  Will he be home soon?

Janet:  Most of the relatives and friends stay for one night and our daughter always takes the plane to visit us for several days - she can work online from here.  My folks always had a lot of summer company in Seattle in summertime and we were taught to be polite and not raise our voices. We had renters on the top floor most of the years so we were used to keeping things under control.  Are you taking time for yourself - just Janet time?

Larry:  I hope to see you posting.

Pat Scott:  May you have a blessed day.

Judy:  How is the family?  Are you in line of these late winter storms?  Are you knitting anything?  I found yarn that is called Denim color and made a narrow scarf - it goes with anyone wearing jeans.

Here is my story about my haircut yesterday.  The person cutting my hair, I thought was female.  Don doesn't think so.  I cannot understand our society.      /color]

Just a little update this morning.  I am not doing well as am getting weaker everyday, coughing and rasping  more (which goes with congestive heart failure).  I have to use the rollator (walker) when I move about as have become pretty unsteady on my feet.  I spoke to my Cardiologist's office this morning to see if I could get in to see her again soon.  However, she is having surgery tomorrow and she said I should go to the ER.  I have an appointment tomorrow with the kidney doctor as I have stage 4 kidney disease and I will see him and see if he thinks I need to be admitted to the hospital.  If so I will request they contact my cardiologist before I went back to my doctor that I had before him.  So things are sort of up in the air here.  I am clearing my plate of commitments and trying to be sure I have everything in order for Pat and Scott.  Enough about me today.  I have read all of the postings since yesterday.

Carol,Keith has been at home since  Nov. 21st. I've had a caregiver for  him and home heath has been taking care of him. At first they came 3 times a week now only once per week. When I changed his dressing this morning the wound is all but closed however I do have to call home health as I saw a red spot in the wound that shouldn't be there. The caregiver is now coming twice a week to do the cleaning for me.

Praying for you Larry

...as hard as this sounds you are facing it as it seems, at least you are being realistic to your situation..Just think Larry, you have survived this long, dont you think there has been a reason for that, its because you are still needed...

Hello all,

I haven't posted here in many years but wanted to reach out to you all as my Grandmother was always very fond of this group. My grandmother is "Liz" from beautiful Vancouver island, and has been a member here for many years. Although not as active on here as she once was I wanted to update you all.

Grandma (or Grammie, as I knew her) had been having a lot of difficulties the past few weeks due to a fracture in her back. She'd been unable to sleep in her bed and had many restless nights moving to different chairs to try and sleep. She had a new bed on order but unfortunately the delivery was delayed due to a significant snowfall we had early last week. Early in the morning of February 13th we assume my Grandma was moving out of one of her recliners and unfortunately fell and hit her head on the glass tv stand. My parents had "LifeLine" set up for her earlier last year as they were often worried something might happen if they weren't home. Thankfully Lifeline was able to detect that she had fallen and sent for the paramedics to arrive. My parents awoke to a fire truck and ambulance at their front door with Grandma already loaded in the ambulance. She was rushed to the ER where they did a head CT and discovered she had a brain bleed. My Mom (Wendy) has been by her side ever since, she will not leave her. My boyfriend and I came up to the hospital last Thursday morning and are so grateful that she was able to see us, and give me a quick hug and kiss. She couldn't speak too much due to the severe headache she was suffering from but she was so worried my Mom. Her last words to her were "I love you, go home". She was always worrying about everyone else.

On Thursday we managed to convince my Mom to come for lunch with us and when we returned to the hospital her neurological sysmpoms had changed, they couldn't wake her up. They did another CT of her head and the brain bleed had more then doubled in size. They had consulted a brain surgeron in Victoria and determined she wasn't a candidate for brain surgery and there was nothing further they could do.

She has been sleeping peacefully now for nearly a week and unhooked from any fluids or medications. We were told she'd likely pass within the first few days, but amazingly she is still with us. We're counting every extra minute we have with her as a blessing. I'm so grateful we've had her these few extra days to say goodbye. My Mom (Wendy) has really needed this extra time but I know she's going to fall apart when she goes. I believe grandma is hanging on as long as she can to help us deal with this as best as we can. The doctors think she'll pass within the next 24 hours so we're just here huddled around her bedside loving her with all our hearts. She's in no pain, just sleeping peacefully.

I thank you all for befriending my Grandma, she is such a special lady and I can not begin the express how much she'll be missed by my Mom and I.

Amanda (Liz's granddaughter)

It is snowing - heavily - in Tucson.  We want to get to the health fair this morning as it is full of free samples and most are nice to have stuffed in the car or around the house.  We can drive in snow - I am not sure about a lot of the seniors around here.

Larry:  Thinking of you.

Larry, holding you close in thoughts and prayers. I greatly admire you and your attitude.  Blessings to you!

Amanda, thank you so much for the update on dear Liz.  I have considered her a special friend for years. She had such grit and determination, and always kept us amused with her stories about the cats!  I echo Jane's words, as well.  Liz will be greatly missed, and I pray for comfort for all of you during this difficult time.

We are enduring the loss of cable TV and having to choose another way of getting TV, which my husband isn't willing to give up.  Last night the internet was messed up, too.  Anyway, I got a couple days behind in here, and was so relieved to see a post from our Larry today.

Carol, sounds like you were well trained in caring for company, and that's wonderful.  Just don't wear yourself out, please.  :)  Yes, I have been practicing my painting quite a lot lately, and I take Wednesdays to go paint with friends at the gallery, so that's really good "Janet time."   Thanks for asking!  Yes, it's a strange world today.  Not the same one we grew up in!  Prayers for America!!

My beautician changed my appointment today from my usual 10:30 to 12:45, because I need a haircut.  That will seem strange.

Predictions for snow tomorrow, my plan is to stay home and paint!

Hello, Marilyn!  Glad Keith is continuing to heal.  Blessings to you both!

Hello Ellie and Jacqueline!!

And Jane, good to know you are still 'lurking.'  ;)   <3

Hi all,

I just wanted to drop by and let you know that my dear Grammie "Liz" passed away peacefully yesterday evening (Feb 21). She was surrounded by love, my Mom, my fiancé and I were all there with her.

I've put together a little collage of a few photos I hope you'll enjoy (if it works). I wish to thank each of you for your love and prayers. While at the hospital the past few days we'd be reading through some of her posts on here and it seemed to offer some comfort to us.

It's going to so strange not having her here with us anymore, especially for my Mom who has to to enter her suite multiple times a day to do the laundry, etc. We take comfort in knowing we'll all be together again, one day. Until then we will cherish her memory always.

Again, thank you for being a friend to her all these years.

Hi Everyone.  Our cloudy days continue with only a small chance of rain.  We expect to get to about 60 degrees today.  Yesterday was really a down day as when I got up yesterday morning I was exhausted and couldn't hold my head upright.  So I spent most of the day either sitting in my easy chair or in bed with my eyes closed.  At least today I can hold my head upright.  On Thursday, when Scott and Pat were at Costco, I had asked Scott to see what they had in the way of Tablets.  He called me and said they had just put on sale the Samsung Galaxy Tab A tablet.  So Pat got it for me.  I got it somewhat setup Thursday evening but yesterday I didn't even turn it on.  That will be my main project for today.

Amanada, thanks once again for letting us know of the passing of Liz. I certainly extend my condolences you and your family.  She certainly was proud of you and your achievements and loved you all deeply.  The photos you put together were very nice and a nice tribute to her.

Janet, is the loss of the cable something you all decided to do or was it forced on you by some external event?  It you haven't done so look into Satellite TV.  I have used Dish for quite a few years and Scott has generally had Direct TV.  Glad you are now doing more painting and having Janet time that you enjoy so much.

Hi Jane and Rebot.

Amanda, please know that we care, and will be thinking of you and Wendy and praying for peace and comfort for you.  It's the greatest of comforts knowing Liz knew Jesus as her Savior and that you will see her again in heaven in just "the blink of an eye!"  Thanks for sharing the photos.  She always mentioned you and your mom with such love!

Larry, good to see a longer post from you today!  We're with you in thoughts and prayers every day.  You're an inspiration!
Yes, our Pioneer Communications is doing away with the cable system, so it's being forced on us to choose their streaming TV, with its higher cost, or another source.  This You Tube TV seems like it will be okay, but only can be used on one of our TVs.  The others are so old they don't have the necessary hook-ups for the Roku or Fire stick, etc.  Always something!  :)

Weather forecast was for us to get 8-12 inches of the white stuff last night and today.  So far, we've had probably about a half inch of rain and barely enough snow to cover the ground.  But Garden City and Dodge City are getting the snow!  I'm going to pretend I'm snowed in,anyway, and go to my studio and paint!

I just got some problems with Amazon straightened out; returning some books and getting credit for a damaged shipment.  Glad that's done!

God bless us, every one!!  :)

Amanda:  Peace be with you and all of the family.  We will miss the news from Liz and do hope you will continue to check in with us seniors.  Thank you for taking the time to notify us and I am sorry for the loss of your sweet grandmother.

Larry:  I am so happy to "see" you this morning.  Take a lot of naps to refresh yourself and good luck with your new tablet.  Special hug to Pat as I know she feels better if you feel better.

Yesterday, it snowed all day in Tucson and there are just clumps of snow we can see now.  It will be good for moisture and water.  This has been such a cooling of temperature since we arrived this year and even last fall so we have only sat on the patio very few days. Must not complain - we lived in Minnesota and the children grew up there so they know what a real winter is like - my cousins post pictures of huge piles of snow.

I made French Onion Soup last night, just enough for two bowls and used a sourdough bread with a white melting cheese for the melting in the broiler.  It came out rather well.  Today, I have to plan some up and coming meals for relatives and friends who arrive and stay short visits.

Janet:  Pretending it is snowing, tsk tsk tsk.  ;)

We did wind up getting a lovely, wet 4-5 inches of snow yesterday.  The wind blew, so a lot of it is in drifts.  But the sun came out and started melting it almost immediately.

Larry, thanks for posting.  Just do what you feel you can do.  We understand, and we love you.

I'm checking in this morning while waiting to see if Darrel decides we're going to the gym. He's trying to fix one of our toilets, and not sure if he will have to replace it.  After spending two hours taking the tank off, replacing all its 'insides' and putting it back together, it leaked, and he found a hairline crack in the tank.  Dried it out for several hours, patched the crack with silicone, put it back on--still leaks. Now he has found one part was wrong, so I'm waiting to find out if he can get that small part here or if it means yet another trip to Garden City.  Sigh..

Ellie, I'd like to visit the Isle of Man sometime.

Darrel wants to go to Normandy, and we got a really good special on a trip called "Paris to Normandy" so we're going to be leaving on March 17th!  Short notice, but less than half the usual price and shouldn't be a strenuous trip.  Have to get in the travel mode soon!

I never did go paint this weekend!  But I did read two books!  :)  Nice to be our own bosses, isn't it?

I'll come back later to see if Larry has checked in.

Rebot:  It is unusual weather is this country too - the UK must be really feeling warm this time of the year.

Janet:  We have been to Normandy taking the train from Paris (which was safer at that time) and spending an entire day.  Don's uncle fought under General Patton all the way.  He never spoke of the battles.

Don's cousin and wife are arriving here for a one-night visit.  I have lunch prepared and we will go out for dinner.  I will fix an oatmeal hot meal in the morning.  They are from Minnesota and have been though some terrible winter weather.  Here, the snow has melted and it is cooler - so beautiful to see it on the Catalina hills.

Larry:  Nice to see your post.

I have been to the small fishing village of Honfleur, Calvados, in northern France's Normandy region. I went there with a German friend who worked for our local John Lewis store, I - we went with the John Lewis staff, just a three day trip by coach, we travelled under the Euro tunnel. Gosh must have been a good 15 plus years ago, doesn't time fly?

Hi Everyone. It is another cloudy but warmer day here.  Our calendar is clear for today so will just be taking it easy.  Pat may take my Samsung Tablet back to Costco today.  I didn't like it at all and so Saturday I order an new iPad, which I will use at my easy chair.  I have an older iPad that Pat is using upstairs so don't anticipate any problems getting it set up as there is a lot of similarity with the iPhone.  It is suppose to be here Thursday or Friday.  I did empty the dishwasher this morning for Pat, got the ice pack to her back when she got up and made her coffee.  I told her that was my work for today.  :) I have read all of the postings since I posted yesterday and it seems you all are keeping busy.  Otherwise just checking in for today.

Greetings Janet  I think you would enjoy visiting the Isle of Man.  I certainly enjoy living here after a long time in London.  Someone asked me what is the time difference on the Island?    Although it is the same as UK time, I thought they believed it was an hour behind UK .  My reply was the time difference is 50 years!  As the Island is how I remember London in the sixties.  Small shops, like we used to say a butcher, a baker and a candlestick maker.  We don't many of the big stores, but small family run shops.

Greetings Carol  Another sunny and milder day on the Island.  A high here today of 58F, but that is 10F lower than the record February temperature recorded today in the UK since records began.  Near 69F.   Unusual differences in temperatures in the UK in the past few years.  A year ago it was freezing weather with snow.  It has to be global warming!

Larry!  How nice to see that you felt up to doing a bit more today.  Now enjoy a nice rest.  I do have an iPad, rarely use it, as I'm having password problems everywhere I turn lately.  >:(
Unlike Ellie, nobody has been able to turn me into a techy person!  (Unfortunately.  And not for lack of trying! On my part or theirs.)  :-\

The Isle of Man sounds like a lovely place, the kind of place  I would really enjoy. I'm not a big city type of gal, for sure.

We had to drive to Garden City again yesterday to purchase a new toilet.  Poor Darrel worked so hard attempting to fix the old one; had the tank on and off 3 or 4 times, changed out all the insides, patched a couple seeping cracks with silicone, and still it was seeping water around one bolt holding tank to bowl. So we have a new one sitting in the garage, ready for when he feels up to tackling it again.

We had the surprise of another snow last night, this one not predicted.  Really fluffy, not very much moisture and only about one inch or so.  This is the first "real winter" we've had in years; and I'm enjoying it!

I've done my errands and chores, and am planning to paint some today. If I don't get sidetracked again!

<Mike and Mary left late this morning.  We had such a wonderful visit - I like all of Don's relatives.  They all grew up and lived close to each other having many family gatherings in 'Duluth, Minnesota.  While we were visiting, we checked the weather cam on the canal and bridge to Lake Superior.  It was frozen solid.

Rebot:  Your home area sounds charming and friendly.  We don't care to go to London anymore - and Don went so many times for business in the UK and in other countries.  Too much change for us to handle anymore.  I hope your home area keeps on being small and friendly.

Larry:  It sounds like a plan - keeping the iPad.  Do you think of having someone come in a few hours a week to help in the kitchen, etc?  I think about help between visitors - daughter is arriving soon and I have doctor appointments, grocery shopping and laundry right now.

Today, the weather is nice and we may be able to sit outdoors for a bit.  Rain is expected when daughter arrives Saturday - of course.

My relatives in Minnesota are sending photos of the heavy snow - cousin's daughter is a nurse and her vehicle was stuck in the driveway - a heavy truck.  They are really tired of winter.

Hi Everyone. It is going to be another nice day here getting up to about 70 degrees this afternoon with a chance of a few showers.  Yesterday afternoon our minister visited us for 30 minutes or so, which was very enjoyable.  Early yesterday evening one of our friends from Sunday School brought us a meal plus.  She brought over enough food to about 3 meals and it was good as we had some of it for our supper last evening.  I was shocked yesterday afternoon when my new iPad was delivered as hadn't expected it until tomorrow or Friday.  I also got the new case and keyboard that I had ordered for the Samsung Galaxy Tablet.  Unfortunately, those two items will have to be returned as neither worked with my new iPad.  It took a couple of hours to get the new iPad up and running but that includes the automatic backup of all of the apps I have running on my phone.  These were all stored in the iCloud.  I was a happy camper when I found I will be able to work my daily crossword puzzles on the new iPad.  If I made one step forward yesterday morning I took at least two steps back by 8 pm when I went to bed. I guess I overdid yesterday morning, although it wasn't very much. I think I was a weary as I have ever been in this siege and am short of breath this morning.  I do have a 1:45 appointment for my routine pacemaker check at 1:45 this afternoon.  Scott is off today and will take me as I am going to need to use the transport chair this afternoon.  I am taking another pass today on making individual comments to the fine postings we have here since I read yesterday and posted yesterday.

Greetings Janet  As I lived in London, it was life in the fast lane, which on the occasions we have been there, hubby does not go in for busy cities or towns.  And as he is a Manxman, one thing Isle of Man people enjoy is the slow pace of the Island.  And I have to say, so do I.

Greetings Carol   You are right about the Island, it is charming and friendly.  People here have time to stop and talk with you, ask after your family and help if they can.  Living in big cities, some people cannot make time for a chat as they appear to be busy most of the time.  And in a hurry to get where they are going, even it is going to do some shopping.

I am just home from my last of the four session watercolor classes.  I really enjoyed them, and think if I keep practicing I may finally be able to paint looser, or as they say, "more painterly!"   ;) I posted pics on Facebook if you want to take a peek.

Amanda, thanks for the link to Liz's obituary.  It was very well written.

Ellie, it's good you're getting used to us and commenting more.  We're a pretty friendly bunch, much fewer in number than previously, but the ones who do post become special friends to each of us.  So I hope you feel very welcome.

Jackie, how are things with you?

It was 9* here this morning, with a 20 mph wind out of the North, so chill index was at -10* Brrrr!  It's a little warmer now, I think our high was to be 25.

Carol, I hope your weather cooperates and you can sit outside for a while.  I love to be outdoors, but not many days this winter when that was feasible.

My back is hurting, need to rest in my recliner a while before time to go to church.  See you tomorrow!

Greetings Janet   This is a splendid place to join friends each day.   Or as hubby told me, we are all cyber friends.

How about this quote regarding friends.  Good friends are hard to find, harder to leave, and impossible to forget.

Janet...
...thank you for asking, when I cant think of a reasonable answer I say what my late father often would have said..." I am so, so..." in other words, neither good nor bad is the best way to explain it...

We went to our weekly mid day bingo - raffle social yesterday...When the readings were read out, one senior ( we are all seniors who attend this group ) had just returned after a two or three week absence from having an operation, another member we were told was absent due to having a stroke... :(

Ellie...
...yes I would like to think we are all cyber friends on our Christian site...of course if we could all meet in person it would be " the icing on the cake, " so to speak...

Amanda...
...thank you so much for relaying your feedback on reading our words...I know your " Teddy " is going to receive lots of hugs - cuddles and kisses....
Just read grandmas best friend of over 70 years is called Hathaway, Hathaway is also my surname, what a coincidence...

Jackie ( Hathaway )

Good morning Ellie and Jackie!
(Or whatever time of day it is over your way!  Good to chat a bit with each of you.  I have found that in even the smallest exchange I often learn something about a friend that I never forget.

Last night at our church dinner, a lady I have known for several years bought one of my books, then she came and sat beside me and told me that she is dealing with health problems.  She has a form of ALS, for which there is no cure, and no treatment, really.  She has been to many doctors and now has some medicine to start taking today, but it will not cure, nor really treat the disease, only slow it down, if all goes well.  She's ready to go to heaven, whether soon or later.  But of course her concern is for her family who are not ready for her to go.  She has two grown daughters.

My eldest sister, Doris, isn't doing well.  Her cancer numbers are down, but at her appointments on Tuesday they found several "active lesions" on her bones, brain bruising from her recent fall, and then at the radiology one, found her oxygen level dangerously low!  She was put on oxygen immediately, then sent via ambulance to North Platte, Neb. hospital.  When they left her, she was hooked up to a lot of tubes and wires.  So I'm very concerned about my sweet sister.  :'(

I finished the set of watercolor lessons, there were 4 classes, one per week, yesterday.  Hated to see them end, but think Mike will be back, as he enjoyed teaching us.

It's just past 5 AM, I couldn't sleep so decided to get up and do something more worthwhile than tossing and turning.  :-\  I have many nights like this, which often causes me to need a nap in the afternoon.

I have been watching and hoping for an update on our dear Pat Scott Halbach......

Later, Peeps!

Happy to be here this morning.  For a while, I was not online with you ---I was able to read the posts but could not reply.  Strange.

Amanda:  Thank you for sending the obituary of your grandmother.  We wish you well in the coming days.

Larry:  It was very thoughtful for someone to bring meals over to you and Pat.

Janet:  Sometimes, it seems like all the news is gloomy - prayers for your family including you.

Ellie:  Rebot - I think a lot  of us would like to be able to go back to the smaller areas because there are so many people now.  Enjoy

We have a lot going on this morning - our daughter arrives tomorrow for six days.  I had my first skin cancer scanning yesterday and all is well.

Hi Everyone. We are expecting it to get to around 70 degrees today with some rain later in the day.  My visit to the pacemaker clinic went well yesterday and my battery should last about 15 months more before the pacemaker/defibrillator will need to be replaced.  The technician told me they do that at my cardiologists office since it is a simple procedure as long as the three wires into the heart are in good shape.  Scott had been to the dentist yesterday morning for a crown preparation so he wasn't feeling very good and didn't spend any time with us.  His jaws were aching but the dentist gave him a prescription for something to help relax this jaws and he was feeling better last evening.  He will be out again late this afternoon to have dinner with us.  He is bringing pizza and a few other things for our dinner tonight with something we can freeze for later meals.  He said he would stop by his store and make the pizza himself and then bring it out here uncooked so we can have it fresh out of the oven.  I was pretty tired all day yesterday but do feel less tired today and plan to take things nice and quiet.  Last night after using my oxygen concentrator for 3 hours it dies and wouldn't restart.  I have called about it this morning and they are to bring out another unit today.  Fortunately I am not dependent on the oxygen as many people are so I still had a good night's sleep.

Amanda, thanks for sharing the link of your Grannies obit.

Rebot, one of the reason we are so happy we moved to South Carolina and a small town is the pace of life.  We had enough of the big city hustle and fast pace of life during our work career and then the 20 years or so after retirement living close to Atlanta in a community that went from about 100,000 people to almost 900,000 people before we left to come here. I have already sent the Samsung items I bought back to Amazon yesterday afternoon when Scott dropped the box off at the UPS store and my credit card account was credited with the return an hour or so later.  I like your saying about friends as it is true.

Janet, I am going to try to preparing longer posts but no guarantees. I have been keeping an eye on your watercolor painting via your Facebook page.  Glad you enjoyed the class. So sorry your sister is back in the hospital and not doing well.

Jackie, so happy that you are being able to get out for those social events.  It is important that we be with friends and acquaintances as it sure keeps our perspective in order, at least for me.  Our conversations with our cyber friends is also important to keep us connected to the rest of the world beyond our own communities.

Carol, we really do appreciate the kindness and thoughtfulness of friends to bring the meals occasionally.  Glad your skin cancer check went well yesterday.

Greetings Larry    At our time of life, taking it easy is what we do.  I have good mobility and I am more fortunate than hubby who has limited mobility, but he does not grumble about it to me.  I spent many years taking a 75-minute journey on the London underground [Tube] to work and the same time journey home.  I was glad when I became sixty and could claim my state retirement pension, plus my companies' pension.

Glad you enjoyed my quote.  Do call me Ellie.

This is a duplicate from my today S & F's posting..

Well not such good news on the Richard front...Richard went for his Cardiologist Consultant hospital appointment today, gave him an ECG, not quite the news he was expecting...First he is to have breathing tests at the lung function dept, followed by an X-ray scan of his neck blood vessels, followed by a coronary angiogram procedure, followed by open heart surgery - his aortic valve...Well neither of us was expecting that...told he will be in hospital for a week ( open heart surgery )...he was also asked about me at home, told them I have PPMS, said they will make arrangements for me...

Hi Everyone.  It is another rainy morning but the temperature is staying very nice in the mid to high 60's.  We had a very late evening last night as Scott didn't get here until after 7 pm and by the time the pizza was baked it was close to 8 pm, when I normally retire for the night.  He sleeps very well when it is raining and so he didn't hear his alarm and didn't wake up until after 6:30 and then had to go to his store and fix the pizza.  I am not sure what time he went home last evening as I had to retire around 10 pm.  He took care of several small chores for us, which we always appreciate.  I expect him back over this morning for a few minutes.  He won't stay too long as he has to go to work around 4 pm today.  I was so tired I didn't even need to drink my Chamomile tea as went to sleep and didn't get up until after 8 am and am still still exhausted.  So it will be a quiet day for me.

Jackie, hopefully the heart surgery will restore some of Richard's strength and he will be able to resume a more active life.  Glad they are going to see that you are all right while he is not there with you.  If you don't have one I would strongly encourage you to get sometime of Lifeline device so you could signal for help.

Ellie, for many years I had long commutes to work, including a number of them using the subway system in Washington, DC as well as an hour or more commute time for the many years in Atlanta.

Thank you for the prayers for my sister Doris.  She is in God's hands, and he knows each day she will be here, and we know that if she cannot stay, that we will be reunited with her in heaven.

Larry, sorry about your very long day, and hope a day or two of rest will restore part of your energy.  I cannot imagine having such a long commute as both you and Ellie had for years!

Jackie, I hope Richard gets good recovery from his bypass and other treatments.  Larry knows all about heart problems; and that some people live many years with diminished heart function.  I'm so pleased that they will be keeping an eye on you, making sure you have what you need including help if you need that.  Please keep us informed on Richard's condition.

Carol, you are probably now enjoying your daughter's visit.  What is her name?

Ellie, there are so many books about London years ago, and every one I have read painted such a dark, depressing picture of the poverty and squalor of those days that I've never had a desire to visit London!  I'm sure it wasn't ALL that way, either then nor now.

I think I should go find something to eat!  I'm hungry!  :)

Greetings Janet  I am not sure what books you were reading, but it is not the London I have known for over seventy years.  The books might have been writing about London some 100-110 years ago.

It is such a vibrant city and behind Tokyo which is the busiest city on Earth, then New York, London is the third busiest.  And the transport system of London including the metro and the buses is considered the best on earth.

Hello everyone. Jackie,  I will be praying for Richard and of course for you as well. I know that I am so blessed   by all the prayers that all y'all have said for me over the years and mroe recently for Keith.

He is doing very well now, the wound is very tiny and should be completely closed in about a week. His memory has improved now that all the infection is gone from his body.

I spent most of the day at our annual Health Fair put on by our members-owned Pioneer Electric and Pioneer Communications Companies.  My! There was a mob of people out there!  The most I've ever seen there at one time, ever!  I am curious as to the actual number of people from whom they drew blood today! After standing in line for about 45 minutes, which just about did me in, I finally reached the front of the line.  They had phlebotomists from our whole area, and farther, some from Denver, even!  The guy who drew my blood was really good, thank God.
There were other booths with health-related things, I browsed and picked up pens, information, bookmarks, etc. Then they had a lovely lunch for us-free of charge-which was barbecue, salad, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy and hot rolls, plus drinks and cake.  I did forego the bread, potatoes and gravy, so as not to knock myself out of ketosis.

At the Pioneer Communications meeting, I won the final door prize of the day, which is a really good, but HEAVY cooler, I couldn't lift it at all!  Some very nice people carried it to my car and loaded it for me. I don't really have a need for it, but some of my kids will be able to use it, I'm sure.

Son-in-law Jeff was in a singing contest today in Liberal, and was chosen to sing in the finals tomorrow.  I hope the big storm predicted doesn't hit so we can go to Liberal and hear him.  Abby is home for the weekend so of course we want to see her, too!

I'll stop before this gets any longer!

Hi Everyone. We will be in the mid-70's this afternoon and there is a 100% chance of rain around 5 pm.  Otherwise it will be a cloudy day.  I have had a couple of very tired days where I didn't feel like doing anything, including using my iPad when in my easy chair.  I am not sure today is going to be any better.  I had a very good nights sleep but just getting ready to face the day has left me tired (same old story).  I don't seem to be making any progress for recovery but will continue to be optimistic that better days are ahead.  I have read the postings since yesterday but am going to pass on individual comments once again.

Hi Everyone.  We are to have a cloudy and much cooler day today with it staying the mid-50's although the sky is currently clear and we have  sun at the moment.  We had a lot of rain yesterday and in the late afternoon we and other areas around us were in a tornado warning areas.  We were ok but the area just North of us had two people hurt and trees down and property damage.  Just checking in this morning.  I took a shower this morning and it left me pretty exhausted, which isn't saying much.  I will just take things easy once again today, which seems to have become my way of life.

Larry there comes a time in our lives that we just have to slow down and do one day at a time, that became very clear to me when I had that awful AFIB episode in December. I still keep somewhat busy with all my activities in Furry Friends and the daily walks with Freckles. I am so much more aware of what my body is telling me.

Today I am taking my car in  for some fluid changes that need to be done. That and Freckles walks are all that is on my to do list for today. I have been working on crocheting a baby afghan for  the family baby due in late may, It is about half finished.

Larry, I'm always happy to see a post from you, even if it only says "I'm here!"  As one who has always stayed busy, very often pushing myself beyond where I should, I, too am finding it necessary to listen to my body, and SLOW DOWN.  And it's okay. I get done what needs done, have learned not to stress over what I cannot do, or ask for help with things I can no longer do by myself.  That's the normal with getting older, but sometimes we fight it as long as we can.

Darrel is finally ready to go to the gym, so I will come back here and talk a bit more when we return!

Went to our bingo's church hall midday where they were starting up a brand new Monday of board games...Although only five or six of us turned up, the church vicar in plain casual clothes sat at our table ( two tables going ) and joined in our chosen game of Uno...We had so much fun, laughter all around as we vied to be competitive as we turned over our playing cards that either helped or hindered our next player. Well I won the most games but I was only competitive with Richard ( beginners luck ) which caused so much laughter..The vicar made and served us tea and coffee with a biscuit..A most enjoyable couple of hours. When I mentioned I had better be aware of turning the air blue he said he had been a policeman ( Birmingham, Handsworth riots 32 years ago ) so had heard it all, again this caused some more laughter..

We wont be able to make next Monday as Richard has got his neck scan ( US Doppler Carotid Artery Both ) booked and will take some while.

Hi Everyone. Another beautiful morning although cloudy but the sun is suppose to shine this afternoon with a high of 53.  Pat has gone to a routine doctor's appointment but shouldn't be gone too long.  Today is the day I have to fill my medicine boxes but it a job I always dread for some strange reason.  I am beginning to wonder when I will turn the corner and begin to feel better.  Our Sunday School class had a chili party last evening and friends brought us containers of chili and soup and corn bread that were left so we have meals prepared for several evenings.  Once again I have read all of the postings but am just going to check in as not up to making individual comments.

We take our daughter to the airport today. She has been so helpful and fun - helping cook for our other visitors.

Rebot:  Our daughter studied for a semester at the London School of Economics and her daughter did the same.  They loved being close to other countries and managed to talk us into taking more trips.  Don spent many trips to London too and I got to go along.  We were treated so friendly by everyone.  Your home town sounds ever more inviting.

Thing of all of you this morning.  Praying for each and everyone's issues.  Take care - I have several more visitors.   Some day, we will have to skinny down the list - this year has been unusually heavy.

I didn't make it back in here yesterday. Nothing important to add, I guess.

Larry, as always, good to see you!

Carol, I don't know how you manage to keep up with so many guests!  The thing about living here in SW Kansas is, if people come to see us, it's because they really want to see US, and not because of the beauty  or scenic grandeur of the area!  (This is in no way a reference to anyone not wanting to see you!  I'm sure they all do!)
Glad you had nice time with daughter, and that she was a help to you, as well.

Jackie, good to read that you had a good time at Bingo, and visiting with the pastor!

I got a chiropractic adjustment today, which I really hope will make me feel better. Have to get my energy back, it's time to pack for that trip!

See you all tomorrow!

There you are Judy...

I have my Monthly MS Social this evening, this is the one that is a 31 mile one way car journey, I have always looked forwards to my once a month visit...Tonight's subject - topic will be our annual AGM, resume of the past year and accounts, this should have been last month but we had our fun talk with Kay Townsend on her history of her family's fairground during, before, and after the war. I know this went down well as my monthly newsletter said so, they will get her back again...

A piece of interesting info Kay told us...

Quoting: " Also, I wonder how many of you remember going on a fairground ride where you sat in a rocket - shaped car? Did you know that you were actually riding in an auxiliary fuel tank that the bombers carried so that they could get safely back from their air raids?! "
