DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

Luke 14:15-24

EVERYONE INVITED TO THE GREAT DINNER
"A man gave a banquet and invited many people ... Come, everything is ready". Luke 14:16-17

As a pastor for a little over a decade now, my most anxious moments have always been expecting people to turn up massively for service I have taken so much time and energy to prepare for. Every worship day (usually Sunday and Wednesday), I pace about in the church auditorium praying that people would come. Sometimes, they did come beyond my expectation and sometimes, far below expectation. In our text today, the host had invested time, effort, money and other resources into preparing a great banquet, large enough to feed everyone he sent invitations. Imagine the disappointment of the host when all the initial invitees declined at the last minute. To prevent his efforts from being wasted, he asked that his servants go out to the streets and bring in everyone they could find, regardless of social or physical status, so that the house would be full of guests. God offers salvation to everyone and has sent us to everyone.
Regardless of age, gender, race, qualification etc., God values everyone and would have us invite them to salvation. If you find yourself judging others, remember that God values them. Think of what you can do to show God's love to the unloved.

Birthday Blessing: "I will give you rains at the right season, the land will produce crops, and the trees of the field will produce their fruit". Leviticus 26:4

RBT Passage: Judges 12; Acts 16; Jeremiah 25; Mark 11.

Putting Christ first in all things takes practice and persistence. -

This devotional is from an evangelist in Africa.  He is a friend of a truck driver friend that John hired.  She sends money to him for food and for building his church.

Brenda's words:  "My relationship began in Jan 2017. The more Tom and I got to know him the more we loved him.
I've never met a young man so sold out to Jesus as I have seen in Julias. He is still a virgin..waiting for the one God has chosen for him. Many beautiful women go after him but he runs from them. A difficult thing to do at age of 31!

Julias has started over 30 churches and hosts many crusades."

Hi everyone,

Janet, Kimi couldn't walk very long or very far due to breaking her knee almost 2 years ago.

Thank you again for all of your prayers.  I am looking forward to getting away for a bit.

Hi Everyone on this Friday morning.  We had rain on and off most of the day and evening yesterday.  It will stay in the mid-80's today and we have more chances of rain late afternoon and evening.  I plan on staying home today as about wore myself out yesterday.  I will keep myself busy here at my desk and with some kitchen duties, including shredding some cheddar cheese.   Yesterday I did go to coffee, stopped at Aldi's for a half dozen items, dropped my friend back at his retirement home and then stopped at the credit union.  I had some US Savings bonds that have matured and needed to cash them.  I had to wait awhile for my turn with customer service.  After that I stopped at Walmart to get some bread.  When I got home I laid down for an hour.  Then Pat and I went to Cheddars for our main meal of the day.  We thought Scott was going to go but he decided to stay home.  I ordered the special half rack of baby back ribs.  Then they served them they were cold, dry and I couldn't even make a dent with the knife on the top layer of something.  I told the waiter they were unacceptable and he replaced them with some that were hot, moist and tender and they were very enjoyable.  I ordered a pair of bifocal reading glasses as am tired of constantly having to put on and take off the the reading glasses.

Janet, thanks for the information on your outstanding performance in the art show and all of those ribbons including the Overall Grand Champion.  You must have quite an array of ribbons now.  While your prize money won't buy very much perhaps it will buy a few tubes of paint although I have no idea what such paint costs these days.  Sorry to read that you don't have a grief counseling class that you could attend.

Judy, thanks for getting us started on the new month with a fresh page.  A couple of weeks ago we studied that same passage of Scripture in our Sunday School class.  That is a very young man to have started so many churches.

Heather, do hope your getting away for awhile will bring you some peace. Have you considered seeking some grief counseling, perhaps a class held by your Church or in the community.  You are not along in dealing with grief and it is helpful to be around others who have experienced the same thing and have found relief via such groups.

Hi Everyone.  We have sunshine this morning after several days of not seeing very much of it.  Of course, our temperatures will be in the upper 80's this afternoon with more chances of shower.  We did get a couple of brief showers yesterday, one of which was enough to do some good.  I did stay home all day yesterday.  Today I plan on attending a meeting at 10:30.   I plan on stopping at Aldi's to pick up a sack of food for our Community Ministries.  We had an email from our Church saying they were very low on food.  This evening we are going to go to Pizza Hut for our main meal. We haven't been there for awhile and it has the added benefit of getting to spend a couple of minutes with our son and at least getting a hug as we leave even if he is too busy to spend a few minutes with us.

Larry, thank you for your faithfulness in posting here every day, almost without fail!  I would really be disappointed not to see a post from you at the top of the page!  Glad you told them those ribs were unacceptable!  They should not have served them; how could they not see they were inedible?

I was about to post here yesterday when Darrel came  and told me he felt his lung was filling with water; as he could barely breathe.  That got my attention!  I called our doctor, who has Fridays off, but he called right back and told me to take Darrel to Johnson; that he would call and order a chest X-ray, but first he wanted them to check his vital signs, especially his oxygenation.  So I drove him to Johnson (only about 20 miles) and they found his oxygenation was only in the 80s, his blood pressure way too high.
The nurse asked if he'd taken his BP med, he said, "No.  I forgot."  And I had reminded him to take it!! Well, the good news in the X-ray looked as it should this soon post-op, no fluid in the lung.  The PA told him to try having a fan blowing in his face, that some people feel that helps them breathe easier.  He also asked if he had any anti-anxiety medication, he didn't, so he prescribed Xanax, and told him very forcefully NOT to take more than prescribed, nor longer than he needs it.  By the time we left, once he was reassured, his oxygen count was back into the mid-90s!   :) ;)

Darrel was hoping he could sleep in the bed last night (has been sleeping in his uncomfortable recliner) but said he couldn't after only a few minutes. This morning he got up soon after me (around 5) and was so stiff and sore he could barely move.  I told him he needed to move around to loosen up; then go and try to sleep in the bed.  He did, and drank some apricot nectar, and has been sleeping on the bed since.  I went in and covered him and he didn't stir.  I hope today is uneventful in this area!!

We got a lovely rain of .6" last night!!  Thank You, Lord!

Larry, I got an email from Janice in New Mexico, she wanted me to ask you something--so I forwarded her email to you.  Easier than repeating her request.  Just mentioning it so you won't overlook it.  (You never do!)

I need to drink my Zeal, take my pills and run out to the Farmers' Market for a little bit.

Did you all the see the photo of my painting at The Main Artery?  It's on Facebook, both on their page and mine, if you'd like to look!  Wish you could all be here for my reception next week!

Hi Everyone.  We are to be in the high 80's again today with the possibility of more isolated thundershowers.  We did get some more rain yesterday.  I plan on going to Sunday School and Church this morning and getting something to bring home for lunch.  I woke up around 2 am this morning and then laid there for an hour and decided I might as well get up for awhile.  Pat has been having problems with her laptop so decided it was time to refresh the operating system so I did the back up and took pictures of the desktop for reference to put it back in order.  While her files remain during the back up all of the programs I had loaded on it must be reloaded.  So I have several hours of work ahead later today but should have it pretty much back in shape by this evening.  I have done this numerous times on different computers over the years so know what is required.  After I got the reset started I laid back down for a couple of hours.

Janet, doing the postings here and on a couple of discussion in S&F's is just a way of life for me as have been doing this for over 20 years.  I do hope Darrel has not had a recurrence of the difficulty in breathing.  Nice to see you had gotten some rain.  I will try to remember to look at your painting in "The Main Artery" a little later.  You are an writer and an painter and petty soon you will be a celebrity!  :)

Good morning everyone.  I come bearing sad news .  Margit Saunders, Chris's wife has passed away.  Please be praying for Chris and the whole family.

Janet

So sorry to hear of Margit's passing.  We just do not know when our time may come, so it's always the best to "live ready!"

Darrel has had a tough time again today, with lots of pain and surging blood pressure.  Between his doctor and me, we figured out a way to get it down, Praise God.

Beth's friend Becki got her "memories" ready and emailed to me, so I have that added to the book.  Not sure if I need a forward, nor whom to ask to write it, if so.  I got the dedication done, and the chapters list.  Nearly done......

Larry, I sure don't know how to do any of the computer stuff you do.  Glad you're able to keep Pat's done!  And your own, of course!

I did a little cooking; hard to know what to fix for Darrel, as he isn't eating much at all.  He's lost over 10#, which he's happy to lose, just not by being sick!

I think I need a nap, and now is my only chance!

Hi Everyone. It is a beautiful and sunny morning.  We are to be around 90 degrees today with a 40% of some afternoon showers.  I had a good nights sleep last night as was really tired as yesterday was a busy day with Church and working on Pat's laptop.  I did get her laptop all back in order late yesterday afternoon after spending 4 to 5 hours working on it yesterday.  I don't have anything on my schedule for today.  I have already fixed Pat's breakfast and cleaned up the kitchen and will just take it easy the rest of the day.  We haven't decided yet what we will have for dinner tonight.

Judy, so sad to read about Margit Saunders.  My sympathies to Chris and the family.

Janet, glad you were able to figure out a way to help Darrel yesterday.  He is having a tough time right now.  It was nice of Becki to share some memories of her time with Beth.  My computer knowledge is basically self-taught with some assistance from my good friend, who is now suffering with Parkinson's, and my son.  I am finding my ability to remember what to do in some situation is becoming less sharp and therefore it is a bit harder than it used to be but I can usually find a YouTube video or other instructions on the Internet that will answer my questions and show me what to do.  This is much different than what it used to be when all of this started.  Being sick is sure a hard way to lose weight.  Hope you had a good nap.

Carol

Sad news for Chris - so sorry for your loss.

Carol

Janet:  My best to you and Darrel.  Is there any way you can keep track of Darrel's lung problems?  Does he need to go see a Pulmonologist?  (sp)?

I have to call later today about jury duty.  It is a heavy traffic drive and so discouraging to read that note - having "done my duty" many times..

We are trying to meet with daughter (celebrating her birthday) and perhaps two grands this weekend - half way is Golden and we know a little lunch place.  G-daughter is coming back from her classes in London this week.

It doesn't seem as smokey but it certainly is not clear air when you look towards the Rocky Mountains.

I bought a backing fabric at Hobby Lobby for the latest quilt and just had to pick up two skeins of a beautiful denim colored yarn.  The yarn will look so nice with a matching jacket.  Hobby Lobby is my favorite - they close on Sundays for worship.

We are thankful for August - the mornings are now a bit cooler.  We are able to have the windows open all night - something that was taken for granted all these years living at almost 6,000 ft. altitude.

Janet

Good Monday morning to you!

Darrel managed to sleep a few hours in bed; has been sleeping in the recliner. Has elevated blood sugar today.  BP seems to be doing better with the addition of half an Amlodipine tablet.  We have a follow-up appointment with his surgeon in Wichita on Thursday. Daughter Diane will drive us again--bless her sweet heart!  So, if there are any further lung problems, the chest Xray then should show them.

Larry, sounds like another day for you to take it easy!   :)

I have a lunch date with my friend the Judge today.  Been too long since we've had a little visit.  I will leave something for Darrel's lunch, of course!

Carol, sorry you have to fight traffic to answer the call for jury duty.  The gal who owns The Main Artery had to serve last week; she wasn't ahppy about it.  The vote on that case was "Guilty!"

Hi Everyone.  It is going to be another typical summer day here in South Carolina.  Yesterday there were storms all around us but we didn't get any of the rain.  However, one of the Churches in our county had its steeple blown off and a man was killed when he was struck by lightning.  An apartment house was also hit with lightning.  Apparently we may have a repeat of the pattern today.  I have a busy morning today as will meet with my friend at 10 am and then have to get over to Walmart to pick up a prescription and then go downtown to the other Walmart to pick up an online grocery order.

Carol, I bet your family will say a little prayer of Thanksgiving when your granddaughter gets off of the plane in Denver and you know she is home safe and sound.   It has been a long time since we shopped at a Hobby Lobby.  We do have one available in Augusta.

Janet, good to read that Darrel finally was able to sleep a few hours in bed.  Glad to read that Diane will be driving you both to Wichita on Thursday.  I did enjoy a pretty quiet day yesterday but managed to stay busy.

Good morning!

We went to the ER again yesterday, as Darrel felt he just couldn't get enough oxygen.  They did another chest X-ray, it was okay; it's not his lung.  They told him it's all in his head and he understands that, but cannot seem to distract himself from the feeling.  It's terrible for him, and he doesn't feel comfortable if I am out of his sight, even though there isn't anything I can do for him, except try to reassure him--and of course, PRAY!  They prescribed Xanax, but he can't take that, because he took too many Valium years ago, and when he takes any of that type of drug, it's like when an alcoholic takes a drink, even after years of being sober.  So we are just trying to get by until we see the surgeon on Thursday!  He tries to distract himself by reading, watching TV, etc., but nothing seems to work.  He feels he can't breathe lying down, so isn't getting very much sleep at all.  This is wearing us both out!

He called me yesterday while I was at lunch with Peggy; of course I came straight home!  Hope he feels up to going to vote this morning.  His BP and blood sugar are both crazy...... :(

He says he's ready to go vote--later!

Hi Everyone.  It is another bright and sunny morning here in South Carolina but our weather pattern is to continue for at least several more days with with rain or storms developing in the late afternoon.  Finally yesterday afternoon we did get some nice rain.  Today the lawn people are applying fertilizer and weed control on our lawns. I have noticed several weeds popping up in my front yard so glad they are doing this.  I expect they will also be mowing since they didn't get most of the yards mowed last week due to the wet yards.  The calendar is clear today as have no where I need do go.  Hopefully Scott will come out this evening and spend a couple of hours with us.  We have a bunch of green onions that I need to chop up.  Pat was going to do it as she could sit in her chair at the sink but just hasn't felt up to it.

Janet, I don't know how one would really be able to get their mind off of a breathing problem such as Darrel is experiencing.  I hope his surgeon can give him some reassurance on Thursday that will help him deal with the situation.  I took Xanax for about three once many years ago and decided it wasn't for me as my emotions were flat.  At the time my dad was quite ill in the hospital and mother had just gone into the special care unit at the nursing home.  There was a lot of stress but I just didn't like how the drug made me feel.    I hope you both got to go vote yesterday.  Our primaries were held several weeks ago.

Carol

Janet:  Can you play soothing music for Darrel?  So sorry for his distress and that doesn't help you either.

Larry:  The tough times do pass and we remember we did survive the traumatic times.  Hi to Pat!  I hope she is feeling better today.

Yesterday was stressful.  I showed up for jury duty and learned that it was a felony - children blaming a close relative and as you can imagine, I was so afraid that the testimony would be so awful.  There were about 50 to 55 people waiting for just that trial -  as a lot of the first group wanted out of the trial or lawyers chose for them to leave.  I did not get that far - thanking my prayers.

Also, Don drove to the courthouse & we left home at 6:15 AM and hit tremendous traffic.  He drove me because every afternoon we are having hail and storms.  Baseball sized hail two days ago - we are fairly close to Colorado Springs.  It was almost 4 PM when we were allowed to leave and the black clouds were gathering but we made it home, so thankful.

My only nice part of the court visit was to find the wall of police dog pictures.  They use them for four years.  What brave and loyal dogs.

Marilyn

I have finally caught up; with all the posts since I was last here. We took a trip up; to Vancouver wA. to visit the kids a coulpe of weeks ago. I let them know about the finances or lack thereof as far as them getting anything from their father . The only thing that will be left after everything else is taken care of is the house ndnone of them want the house.  I ned to get my name put on the deed. I will be registering the POA with the county clerk as at that time I will inquire about the title to thye house.
A roofer is coming today to give us a bid on either repairing the roof or replacing it.

ny way all is well here just wanted to check in and let y'll know I am still alive.

I did catch up on the posts.

Marilyn, you've been among the missing for quite a while!  Glad to have you back.

Carol, glad you didn't have to serve on the jury; you do not need that kind of stress, for sure!

I've had a busy day.  Got hang tags (handicapped) for the vehicles. That meant two trips to courthouse, one to Dr. office and one back home for Darrel's signature.  But we have them for tomorrow in Wichita, so he won't have to walk long distances, I hope.  He seems better today, not as anxious, but says he feels terrible.  I hope we get some answers tomorrow about how to help him feel better.

I also did some painting today--did three cards.  A flamingo, some flowers and a toucan!   ;)

Now to see if I can unwind a little bit.  I even have a little headache tonight, and only get those from tension.

Hi Everyone.  Another beautiful morning after a pretty stormy night last night.  There was a lot of thunder and lightning, including a strike somewhere very close to us and then quite a bit of rain.  Today is to get into the low 90's and there is a small chance of more rain and storms later this afternoon or evening.  This morning I have a doctor's appointment to have my toenails trimmed.  Then this afternoon Pat and I plan on going back to Ruby Tuesday's for another of their buy one get one entree coupon mail.  That makes pretty inexpensive eating.  Scott did make it out last evening after we had finished dinner.  He had texted before we had finished dinner that he was on his way so we left the food on the table and he had a good dinner meal.  Pat fixed the pork loin roast and green beans and some smiley face potatoes along with some dinner rolls.  The potatoes were something we had never seen before as they were mashed but fixed in little round smiley faces.  It was the first time I ever had my food look back at me!

Carol, Pat does seem to be feeling pretty good this morning and is already up and dressed and said she didn't need to use the ice pack on her back, which is a first for quite awhile.  In the last few days she has spent a little time in her sewing room working on quilt blocks.  Did you actually get picked for the jury as I wasn't sure whether you were among that first group or not.  We actually had a little hail with the storm we had last night, although I am sure it did no damage as didn't last but a minute or so.  Glad you made it home before any storm.

Marilyn, good to see you posting but knew you had probably been pretty busy.  I expect Keith's family is very happy to have you there with their dad as his disease continues.  Did Freckles enjoy his trip with you?

Janet, glad you were able to get the handicapped tags as it sounds like Darrel certainly needs to have them at this time.  I remember the process I had to go through for both myself and Pat.  For several years I have just used the handicapped tag rather than the hanger on the mirror.  I no longer have the hanging type.  Sorry to read that Darrel is still feeling terrible as of yesterday and hope your trip to Wichita does give you some answers and that it isn't a too unpleasant trip for him.  It sounds like you have had to shift your treadmill wheel into a higher gear with all you are having to do.

Carol

Don is out for the monthly men's breakfast.  He participates in cribbage games a couple nights a month as well.  This is a good neighborhood for us.

Marilyn:  I hope all goes well with what you are expecting to happen in life.  Never easy.

Larry:  Isn't it nice to have Scott close and able to chat with you?  We have two sons close - our daughter lives about a 45 min drive and we will see her and possibly two grands in Golden (half way) for lunch on Saturday.  Our oldest son will be here for a week in September - with wife and dog.  ---I knew the trial was a big one when I saw so many possible jurors.  I was at the end and they never questioned me - so very thankful.  Still, I took an oath to not discuss the case or even look it online - and I will abide by that until the trial is over.  I only hope for justice.  --The smiley faced potatoes would be so nice for children.

We expected hail again yesterday but it didn't hit here.   Roof and car insurance will jump up once again.

Marilyn

I sure do need to proofread before I hit the post button.   :clobber: The roofer will be out to give us a bid on the 21st.  I hope to get the roof either fixed or replaced before the rain starts. There is an awful leak in the laundry room that I have to clean up  off and on all day when it rains.  I also want to rip this old carpet out and  replace the living room sectional that was his parents and is all ripped up and dirty. Keith is  pretty much a hoarder, he doesn't want to get rid of anything only  what belongs to me.  It is difficult as I keep giving away some of my things to make room for other stuff. I am hoping it will get better even though I know it won't.

Hi from a very warm island.
We are having very dry weather at the moment and could really use rain.  So many forest fires burning right now....

I have been reading all the posts and so sorry that many are going through troubled times.  Next month I will be 86 yrs.old and have found that life really does not get easier.  Without faith in God, it would be impossible to survive.

For those of you who remember Squeek (cat) we had to have her put to sleep.  She was 22 yrs. old and Wendy has really felt the loss.  So much that she and my GD talked me into another cat.  A 2 yr. old street cat from the SPCA.  Mr. Teddy is now living in my suite until he understands his new life.  He is very gentle, uses his litter box and is learning to not scratch furniture. But...and there is always a BUT, he is very stressed and constantly cleaning and scratching due to nerves.  The vet said it will take about several months for him to relax.  When trained he will be able to go upstairs and have access to the whole house.

I did a lot of research about this problem  and have put him on a few drops of Bach Pet Rescue, which is a Homopathic medication that has been around for a few generations. It has worked so well for Teddy that I decided to try their human medication. Not a tranq. But simply calms the nerves.  I have tried Ativan and do not like the results.  Does not affect the pain med. I have to use and makes me feel lots better.  I am using Brach Rescue Pastilles, which tastes great and is available in health stores and some drug stores.

The reason I am writing all this is that possibly Daryl might get some help from taking these tasty Pastilles.  It has a very calming affect and might relieve some of the stress.  Just saying........

I just received my box of cat toys from Amazon so will go and have play time with Teddy.  Should be more fun than watching the news.

God Bless,
Liz

CHANGE NOT THY FAITH WITH CHANGING TIMES

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone. Getting a late start today as had an early morning appointment with the PA at my Primary Care Doctor's Office.  Late yesterday afternoon we had over an inch of rain, which gives us a little over 3 1/2 inches of rain in the last few days.  We are set to get to 90 degrees this afternoon and more chances of rain in the late afternoon.  I hear the yard people in the neighborhood and I hope they get my yard mowed and trimmed today as it has now been over 2 weeks.  The housekeeper is also here today.

We had a really good meal at Ruby Tuesday's yesterday that had two chicken breast so we were able to bring one for each of us home and will enjoy it this evening for our main meal which will be a salad meal.  The coupon for the buy one get one entree at the restaurant yesterday saved us $16. Other than fixing the salad I plan on the rest of the day being a restful one.

I mentioned the smiley faced mashed potatoes.  Here is a link that will show you what I was talking about.  We got these at Walmart and they were frozen:  https://www.target.com/p/mccain-smiles-mashed-potato-shapes-22oz/-/A-14759242  The potatoes come out of the bag looking just like it shows on the package.

The morning has gotten away from me as Pat came and and we chatted for quite awhile.   So I am just going to pass on individual comments. I have read all of the postings since yesterday

Janet

I did read the postings every day, but don't think I posted yesterday.  Diane drove us to Wichita and back yesterday for Darrel's check-out with the surgeon.  He checked out fine; the surgeon explained what he had done, and what he can expect in terms of the pain being resolved; said he can now do anything he wants to do.

I had a rough night; coughing; pain in my ankles, didn't get to sleep until around 3; so am anticipating a nap soon.  The reception for me is this evening and I would like to be awake for that!  ;)

We will be going to see the surgeon soon about my ankles again; this is much too long for a wound to remain open!  (Since June 29)

Hope all is well with all of you---Liz, so nice to "see" you again!  I'll comment more next time!

Eggs were on sale at Sprouts.  So, the older eggs are being boiled for egg salad.  I found everything to make meatballs (Swedish, ) for tomorrows dinner.  This DIL is Danish.  I mix a little ground pork and veal if I can find it - could not find the veal today.

Liz:  Good for you for taking on another pet.  We decided a few years ago to not find another dog as we can always visit our children's homes and we do the caretaking if they are away.  The reason for none here is there are coyotes in the ravine and they are so bold - plus we have to walk downstairs to go out to the yard area or walk over the small rocks on the side of the house.  Tomorrow night, one son & wife are coming for dinner and they will bring one of their rescue German Shepherds.  They have acreage so they have ducks, chickens and three rescue dogs.

Janet:  Sorry for your continuing pain.  It has to be so hard for your ankles to heal because I am sure you are up and about trying to keep up with everything.  Have a nice time at your reception and stay seated.

Larry:  I'll look at the site for smiley potatoes.  How clever.

Hi Everyone. We have an overcast morning but very little chance of rain later today.  We actually went through a whole day and night with no rain in our area.  I plan on attending a meeting this morning and then this afternoon Pat and I plan on going to Dairy Queen for our main meal of the day and I will pop into Walmart for a couple of things and that will be it for today.  I have fixed Pat's breakfast as she was in pain when she got up.  I will probably watch some of the golf match later this afternoon.

Janet, it sounds like Darrel got reassurance from the surgeon and too bad he hadn't explained what to expect when he discharged him.  It sounds like he got a fine report and being released to do what he feels like doing.  I hope you were able to get some good sleep and perhaps can pretty much stay off your feet today.  It sounds like you certainly need to have the doctor check your ankles again.

Liz, it was good to see your posting and read about your new pet.  I hope the pet gives you a lot of enjoyment.

Carol, I bet your meatballs are much better than the ones in the freezer that Pat bought from Walmart.  Like you all we are not going to have another pet as neither Pat nor I feel up to trying to take care of one anymore.  We helped our son with the vet bill yesterday for his 14 year old Pom and this morning I got my first email from a dog thanking me and saying the cough medicine the vet had prescribed had helped with his cough.  First it was potatoes that smiled back at me from the plate and now an email from a dog.  What will be next.  :)  A couple of years ago we had friends from where we did live come over to visit and they brought their little dog, Crispy, with them and that was the only pet that has been in this house and it was a well behaved animal and we enjoyed having it here.  I am surprised that some company hasn't marketed those smiley potatoes before and kids would love them (and not bad for adult either as we all need a smile whenever we can get it).

Larry, how nice to get an email from a dog!
:)  The smiley potatoes are cute, too!

Carol, we don't plan to get another dog, either.  We have had such bad luck with the last several we had.  The cat is pretty independent (imagine that!) and we can leave her unattended for a few days, if need be.  When we go away now, John comes out and pets her and takes care of her.  She loves that!

The reception was very nice, and pretty well attended, too.  And one painting sold!  So that is encouraging.  Several came from Hugoton and Moscow, and Beth's dear friend Mindi, from Holcomb.  Everyone was very nice, and seemed to enjoy being there.  So I'm happy!   :)

Larry, we haven't had rain nearly that often, but did get another nice half-inch a few nights ago.  It's been really hot, too.  But we do expect that in August.

I went out to the Farmers Market earlier and bought Darrel a cherry pie, his favorite.  We got a box of Colorado peaches, which we shared with John and Diane.  I put some in the back refrigerator and there are still some on the counter in a small box.  I don't think we will need to freeze any of them, as they are disappearing rapidly!

I got an appointment for Wed. to have my ankle checked.  The doctor is retiring, even though she's still pretty young, and that is her last appointment on her last day before retirement!  :-\

Liz, glad you got another kitty, as I know you really enjoy cats.  Any living animal is company, you can talk to them and people don't think you're losing it, talking to yourself!   ;)  Our cat talks back, and she's always agreeable--she never says "no" but always "Yeah"  (Meow)  Ha ha.

Darrel had a sleepless night, and I hope he gets so he can sleep soon.  It's really wearing him out!  I didn't manage to take a nap yesterday, but I did rest.  And I slept good last night!  Praise the Lord!

I need to get the sheets out of the dryer and remake the bed.  See you later!

I am just stopping in to say that cat Teddy is really for my daughter?s benefit as she is the real cat lover.  I am really enjoying him and need something to inspire me to keep on keeping on.  But when no longer able to care for him, he will always have a forever home...Important for me to stay mobile as I do my own housework, etc.  Wendy comes downstairs and brushes and plays with him as his energy is endless....

Sorry about spelling Darrels name wrong.  Used to Daryl spelling.  That company also has a remedy to help sleeping and it works...at least for me.I have always been hesitant to use some of the old remedies until was told about using a bar of soap taped to bottom sheet to stop night cramps in legs.  Had the most terrible
time and vitamins did not help.  No longer have pain at night....?Just saying!

The fires have become a terrible problem here on the island.  Very close to where I used to live and people evacuated.  we may get some rain soon so sure hope  weather forecasts are correct..

Okay, hope all goes well for everyone.  Guess life will always be diddicult.  I have not known if my son is alive or dead for the past 25 yrs.  No closure there.

God Bless,
Liz

Carol

Liz, I just read your last note about your missing son.  What a shame to hear that someone you raised drops you.  Feeling so sad for you.  He is missing so very much.

We are back from a drive to Golden where we met our granddaughter and daughter.  It is 90* outside and people are driving selfishly.  Construction all over the place and dust from the wind and heat.  It is so nice to step into the house and it is cooler.  Now, to fix the rest of tonight's meal.

Janet:  Do you return for more doctor visits on your ankle?

Janet

Liz, not to worry about the spelling of Darrel's name.  There are several ways that name is spelled!  What are Pastilles? I don't believe I've ever seen that word before, but will inquire about it, as we really do need something to help with his nerves, and to help him get some sleep!

Carol, I have an app't about my ankle on Wednesday.  I hope questions will be answered and that I won't be needing more follow-up, but if I do, will have to find a new doctor.  :-\

See you all tomorrow!

Hi Everyone.  It is going to be another beautiful and sunny morning with it getting into the low 90's this afternoon.  I am going to Sunday School this morning and then will come home and get Pat so we can go to Church.  Last evening she said she planned to go but that will depend on how she is doing this morning.  If she goes we will stop on the way home to get something for our lunch and if not, as usual, I will pick up something to bring home for our lunch.  I did watch quite a bit of the golf championship yesterday and plan on watching the last part of it today.

Janet, nice to read you were pleased with the reception for your art opening and nice you were able to sell a painting as well.  We had a few sprinkles yesterday while we were at Dairy Queen and I had left my car windows cracked a bit at the top, as I usually do on very hot days.  A man left the restaurant but came back in and looked at me and asked if I was the man with the blue car outside (he must have seen us come in).  I acknowledged that I was and he told me it was starting to rain so I went out and closed the windows and brought an umbrella back inside.  When we left there had only been a few sprinkles on the car and it had already stopped and that was the last of the rain yesterday.  Those Colorado peaches sound good.  I know we enjoyed the peaches we were able to get here earlier this year.  They do have a tendency to disappear rather quickly.  Were you saying that you were such a difficult patient that you are putting your surgeon out of business!!  :)  Seriously I am sure glad you were able to get that appointment.  Sorry to read that Darrel is still having difficulty sleeping.

Liz, interesting about putting a bar of soap on the botttom sheet to stop the leg cramps.  I recall someone mentioning doing that in the past but had totally forgotten it.  I haven't had a leg cramp in a long time and hope it is much longer before I have one again.  I don't recall you sharing with us about your son.  Certainly a sad thing to deal with.

Carol, nice to see you were able to met your granddaughter and daughter in Golden.  Many years ago I was attending a two week management course that was held in Denver and we went on a field trip to the Coors Brewery, which was used as a case study in how to run a very successful business.  It was quite interesting and impressive.

Thanks Bubble and Larry for sending the wonderful sites on special wheels for children - what a sense of freedom they must feel.

I did make it to the 7:30 service this morning.  It takes more effort these days to leave the house a bit before 7:15, park in the massive lot and greet friends.  Don cannot hear (understand) the speakers in the chapel even with their hearing aids.  He can understand the Saturday night more quiet service at the Lutheran church.  So, we adjust to the new norms a lot these days.

We met the latest dog last night.  He is a sweetheart.  There is one more to meet in the family and we need to visit our daughter for her rescue golden retriever.  That one has adjusted so quickly - imagine flying them in from Turkey to keep the dogs from being left in the woods.  There is a rescue animal mission that works on that issue.

I asked ALEXA to play "Bless the Lord, oh, my soul" and this time that song was found.  Finally, you can find songs we like to hear.  -

Janet

What a touching story, about "The Magic Wheelchair."  I know even my Beth would have loved this!  She had such a childlike spirit.  What a wonderful dad that guy is! May his efforts be richly blessed.

Thanks or sharing!

Carol, I surely hadn't heard about dogs being rescued from Turkey!

Hi Everyone.  It looks like we will be having another nice and warm summer day here in South Carolina with only a small chance of rain this afternoon and a high of 94 degrees.  Yesterday was an enjoyable day with the morning at Church and then Pat and I had lunch at Zaxby's enjoying a small chicken salad and then a quiet afternoon.  I did watch the golf tournament most of the  afternoon.  Nothing is on the schedule for today so will just have to wait and see what develops.  I don't expect to leave the house.

Carol, I thought the wheels for children made a very good point of how they feel as if no one notices them.  I was particularly touched when the father commented he would have his two sons only a short while do to their medical condition.  I don't think I would ever make it to Church by 7:30 in the mornings.  You must be attending a very large Church as you mentioned the massive parking lot.  Does your Church provide any type of transportation from the parking lot to the front of the Church?  Our Church provides a golf cart service for those needing help getting from their cars to and after the service.  I drop Pat off at the front of the Church and then find a parking spot and if it is far out I will use the special service to get back to the Sanctuary and then back to the car afterwards. Our Church uses special hearing equipment for those with impaired hearing.  Glad you are enjoying your ALEXA.  I haven't gone that route and really can't figure out how it would be of much use to me.  I can find about any song I want with my Spotify app and have nice speakers in my office.  If I listen elsewhere I almost always use earphones.

Janet, one would have to have a pretty cold heart not to be touched by the Magic Wheelchair program.  Apparently there are a number of men who now make those special costumes for the children.  I have never heard of the dog rescue from Turkey either.

Carol

Larry:  I attend 2 churches in Colorado.  One is on Saturday night at 5 PM and that is Lutheran and the other is 7:30 AM on Sunday and that is Evangelical Presbyterian.  Don can understand the pastors at the small service on Saturday night (he has the distorted hearing problem).  I go alone on Sunday and meet friends for service - two good friends who are widows.  They stay for Sunday School but I leave and go home or for coffee with Don.  We do what is easy and yes, the Sunday church is huge but I attend the chapel service early.  I don't see a golf cart but there are at least 8 special places to part and I am sure anyone would help walk or push a wheelchair.  It is very organized and thoughtful.  Yes, the main church is massive.  It is often used for special outside services - a policeman's funeral for instance.

Janet:  Boulder has a rescue Golden Retriever group and they take in the young dogs that fly in from Turkey.  I have never heard of it before either.  Are you still healing?  Keep off that leg as much as you can.

Quilting is here tomorrow night and Don will play cribbage with a couple of friends in the neighborhood.  It is cool this morning and has been cool enough to sleep with open windows.  Finally!  Such a different year with too many fires.

Janet

Carol, why are the dogs in need of being rescued?  My ankle is a lot better; I'm thinking the doctor will question why I am even there when I go to app't. on Wednesday.  But they still hurt at night.
Seem to feel better when I am up on them than when I lie down!  Crazy. It's so sad that Don's hearing was so damaged by that cannon several years ago.  :(

I just sent my manuscript to the production team at Xulon Press.  I don't know how things will go there; they do everything completely differently than Tate did.  I just pray it will go smoothly!

Larry, for once, I don't have any "have-tos" on my calendar today!  I was going to go visit a friend who has been having severe health problems; but when I called, she didn't answer.  I haven't seen her in months!

Darrel has slept (in the bed!!) for two nights now, so I feel he is well on his way to recovery.  Still has pain at the surgery site, but that is to be expected, the surgeon said, for two to three months.  We both need to get back to exercising so we will be in shape for the Alaska trip; leaving on Sept. 1!

I need to call another member of my "team" at the publishing company.
I wish you all a blessed day!

Carol

Janet:  Wishing you full recovery - you will want to be able to hike a bit.  Are you going to Sitka?  We volunteered there for the month of July one year.  Fond memories.

The dogs are only kept as long as they are puppies and just discarded.  I am glad you are going to the doctor anyway, because that is a hectic and fun trip you have planned.  Try to plan downtime for yourselves and remember they can always bring your meal to your room - where you can put your feet up.  That is strange - feeling better upright after ankle surgery.

Hi Everyone.  We are suppose to have a totally sunny day today, which is very unusual for us as we normally see clouds around 3 or 4 pm every afternoon.  It will be in the 90's.  Yesterday was a rather wasted day as spent a lot of time resting and listening to my audiobook with my eyes closed.  I am feeling more chipper this morning so hope to have a good day.  I only have one thing on the schedule and that is a friend will be stopping by around 10 am to spend an hour with me.  Unless Pat wants to go out to eat I don't expect to even leave the house today.

Carol, thanks for the info on the Churches you attend.  Hope you have a great time with your quilting group this evening.  I haven't played cribbage in a long time and it has always been one of my favorite games that I have played since I was a child.  I can play it on the computer but need to load the Hoyle games on my laptop to do so. When we lived in Alaska I had the opportunity to take a business trip to Sitka but really don't remember much about it as that was in the late 1960's.

Janet, good to read your leg is a lot better.  I know that is a relief to you.  I am looking forward to your new book.  I have never heard of the Press company but then I haven't looked for any self-publishing companies.  I do hope all goes well for you.  I was sort of shocked when I read that you didn't have any "have-to's" yesterday.  I hope you were able to just have a restful day.  Also good news on Darrel's recovery.  Time does heal.  I sure hope you both are feeling well for your Alaska trip.

Janet

Larry, good to read that you are feeling more chipper today!  I didn't leave the house yesterday, except to go out to the garden, pick a few tomatoes and pull a big pile of weeds, then I did make a little walk out to the mailbox.  But the car never moved!  Unusual.

However, Darrel seems to not be doing well now.  He still has that sensation
of not being able to breathe, even though he knows he can.  He was awake all night again; has now fallen asleep in his recliner.  I want to tip him back farther so his neck isn't in a kink, but afraid I will wake him.

I had just typed that, looked over and he looked so uncomfortable I did go lay the chair back.  He woke up and wanted to go to bed, so I helped him to bed and got him settled.  I sure hope he sleeps for a few hours now!  He has a massage scheduled for 1:00, and maybe that will relax him enough that he will sleep tonight.  I hope, I hope!

Granddaughter in law Toni helped me via Facetime yesterday to get the book sent again; as I had added in what Becki sent, and they wanted the whole thing again.  Sigh.  I wish they would be more forthcoming with some help; otherwise, what am I paying them for doing?  It's frustrating!

Has anyone heard from Pat Scott Halbach lately?  I'm wondering how she is doing.  I want to call, but hesitate to do so, as don't want to wake her if she's resting.  ACK!!  Darrel is already up again!!  What to do?  What to do??  He is so tired, he's staggering!

Talk to you later............

Janet:  May Darrel have a more comfortable day!

This morning is about making brownies and the large jar with Sun Tea is set on the deck slow brewing for tonight.  The weather person finally talked about a week of below normal heat - giving thanks!

Larry:  Sitka is still fairly small, only 7 miles to drive.  There is a Russian Orthodox church on main street and right next to it is the Finnish Lutheran church which is very plain and looks like a department store.  That is because.... when the Russians ran the show, they only allowed a plain church for the Finns (who were brought in to build the town).  We heard of a Brown Bear (the huge one) loose in the town & every little noise just stopped my heart (LOL).  We saw about a hundred eagles in the water park area, massive Sitka Spruce trees, lots of fish and very kind people.  Look up "The Ascension" painting from Finland and that is now hanging again in the Lutheran church.  :)

Janet:  You will get this printed and I hope Darrel will be really relaxed after the massage.

Hi Everyone.  We have a day with a zero chance of rain, according to the forecasters, which is pretty unusual this year.  It will get to the mid-90's this afternoon.  We did stay home yesterday and plan to do the same until late this afternoon when we plan on going out to eat.  We will meet Scott, and perhaps the girls, at Diablo's.  We haven't been there for quite awhile and we all like it.  The yard people are out working on the yards this morning.  Yesterday was a day of little accomplishment other than fixing breakfast for Pat and cleaning up the kitchen and then fixed the supper of the stuffed peppers, some salad and some applesauce.  I did finish listening to my audio book and began another one.

Janet, I bet your car felt neglected yesterday.  This evening will be the first time I will have started our car since Sunday morning.  So sorry to read that Darrel doesn't feel he is doing well.  A sensation of feeling like you can't breath right must be very unpleasant. Sorry to see that he wasn't able to stay in bed.    I have not heard anything from Pat Halbach but did send her a Jacquie Larson e-card with a note to let her know she is not forgotten. Hopefully Judy will stop by and give us an update regarding Pat as well as she and John.

Carol, Pat used to make sun tea and it was very good and brownies sound delicious.  Glad you may experience a break in the summer heat.  Thanks for the information on Sitka.  I am sure tourism is a pretty big business for the townspeople.

A hailstorm hit our area lightly before everyone - 7 of the quilters) arrived but heavy hail hit in the north end.  It sure did cool the air.

The toaster is acting up again.  It has been quietly doing its duty for several months and now is throwing one of the slices of bread out on the floor.  Gremlins in the kitchen.

Did any of you read or hear about the baker in this state who refused to decorate one of his wedding cakes with two groomsmen?  He had to go to court (at an enormous expense to him and his family) and the Supreme Court ruled in his favor.  Would you think that is over.l  Not at all. A group is coming after him - his business once again as they are still demanding he should have made that cake. -- He was so polite, said that he would bake and decorate the cake but not put the images on top.  Not enough - they (a group on a mission) want to make this a landmark case that would force anyone to do the same.  Lots of money is behind this movement.

If anyone has a site for anti-inflammatory vegan recipes, I would appreciate your guidance.  Thanks

Janet

Carol, on TV, they said the baker is being sued again for refusing to bake a cake for a "transgender" guy's "Transition Celebration."  Ugh.  Made up excuse to persecute a good Christian man. They shouldn't even give it the time of day!  He already won at the Supreme Court!!

Toaster gremlins?  We had those once!  They sure like throwing toast on the floor, don't they?

Larry, I keep forgetting to tell you I made the Instant Pot Potato soup! It was good, but makes such a big batch we still have nearly half of it.  Will be handy now, because our well is down, and I cannot cook without water!!
Grrr!  Sure glad I ran the dishwasher and got the laundry done before it broke.  The guys said there is a broken pipe underneath the pressure tank; will probably be a costly repair job.   :-\  I don't know anyone who has as many water problems as we do!  I wish it would just STOP already.

I got my ankle checked today; she said it's healing but is slow because of all the movement in the ankle when I walk.  Said if it were immobilized, it would heal in two weeks, but then I'd have bigger problems!  So I wait some more.

I need to do a couple errands on computer.  See you tomorrow!

Hi Everyone. Our morning starts out overcast but we are to see some sun today as well as clouds and a chance of rain is back in the forecast.  It is suppose to be in the mid 90's this afternoon.  Yesterday was a quiet day here.  Around 4 pm Scott arrived and we visited until it was time to go to dinner at Diablo's.  Once again we all enjoyed our Tex-Mex meal.  He didn't stay very late last evening.  The girls did not join us for dinner.  Today will be my typical Thursday.  I will stop at the Walmart Pharmacy to pick up a new medicated shampoo prescription.  My co-pay on this medication is over $50.  I am staggered that any shampoo can be so expensive and I sure hope it works.  Then I will pick up my friend and we will go to coffee.  After I bring him home I will again stop at the grocery pickup area and pick up the grocery order that Pat placed yesterday.  This will be the first time since this closer Walmart started offering this service.  Scott plans to be here at 11:30 to help unload the car although I told him it was't necessary but he wanted to come and help.  It will be nice to spend a little time with him two days in a row as usually it is only one day.

I did not sleep very well last night after the first 4 yours.  After laying there for a couple of hours I got up and worked a jigsaw puzzle on my laptop and then went back to bed and slept fitfully the rest of the night.  There was no particular reason but it just was the situation.

Carol, do you stand in front of your toaster with a plate to try to catch the slice of toast as the toaster flips it out.  It sounds like it is time for a new toaster.  I make Pat's toast in the toaster oven so it doesn't popup.  I do have to watch it carefully but only once have I had to remake the toast as the first slice had toasted too long.  I did see the article about the baker.  I should think any judge would throw this case out of court since the Supreme Court has made a ruling on the matter.

Janet, I read in the news that in China now they are taking down all of the pictures of Jesus and replacing them with the picture of the current leader of China.  Religious persecution is occurring all over the world against both Christians and Jews.  I was also incensed to see that a judge had bonded out the people from New Mexico that were apparently teaching their children how to become school shooters.  The bond was set at only $20,000.  I agree the recipe does make a lot of the soup but we found it doesn't last very long as our son really likes it and is happy to take any excess home with him.  Pat has ordered some quart size freezer containers to freeze soup or stews in and a quart makes a good meal for us.  She also got 5 more of the divided containers to make our own TV type dinners in.  I hope you can quickly get your water problem fixed.  Glad that the doctor found your ankle was healing although you already knew that.

Janet

My goodness, Larry!  That is really expensive for shampoo!  What problem are you having, that you need special shampoo? I noticed in Garden City they have poles in front wrapped and marked for grocery pickup.  Wouldn't help us much, since it's 60 miles up there!  I should have frozen some of the soup, but didn't think of it at the time.  Next time!  ;)

Abby's summer on her Cru mission was really good.  We just got her final update, and she wrote in glowing terms about it, and how it helped her grow as a Christian and determine to live for Jesus.  Makes us happy!

I did go to my Wednesday time at the Artery yesterday for a while, came home at noon to go to GC.  But I finished a small painting and did another card!  I was up at 3:30, and worked on the painting (yesterday).  After doing my devotions and Bible reading, I went back to sleep for a couple hours.  Darrel had another really bad night last night; no sleep at all.  He's so jittery he doesn't know what to do with himself.  I just gave him about 1/4 of a sleeping pill; will see if that gets him to at least take a nap.  We need a doctor!!  And we do not have one here that we trust.  Not a good spot to be in, especially as we get older.  :(  We will have to go to Lakin, I guess (about 22 miles north).  They have some really nice young, Christian doctors there.  One is the last doctor who took care of Beth, and he always prayed for her each time he saw her.  Wonderful.

Time for the 700 Club!  See you later!

Good Day PAT!!!

Our mornings are now near normal - that means it is cooler and do we ever appreciate it.

Don may or may not have to go to the new VA building today.  That building is over 5 years in delay and billions over projected cost - for all of us taxpayers to be reminded.  It is a stressful drive too.

Larry:  That is an awful price.  No generic, I suppose.  An allergist told me to use baby shampoo that is scent-free so that helped.  Your son is priceless.

Janet:  So sorry about your well problems.  We had a well in Minnesota and the water ran so slow it took an entire day to ever finish the wash.  Shocking in New Mexico that these criminals are being let loose and even more shocking:  the news will not mention their real background.  It makes an unsafe place.

PRECIOUS LORD........

Lyrics

Precious Lord, take my hand
Lead me on, let me stand
I'm tired, I'm weak, I'm lone
Through the storm, through the night
Lead me on to the light
Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home

When my way grows drear precious Lord linger near
When my light is almost gone
Hear my cry, hear my call
Hold my hand lest I fall
Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home

When the darkness appears and the night draws near
And the day is past and gone
At the river I stand
Guide my feet, hold my hand
Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home

Precious Lord, take my hand
Lead me on, let me stand
I'm tired, I'm weak, I'm lone
Through the storm, through the night
Lead me on to the light
Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home...

Hi Everyone.  It is another typical August day here in South Carolina.  It is clear and sunny this morning but we are to have a mostly cloudy afternoon and there is a small chance of rain later today.  Our main plans for today are to have our main meal at Ruby Tuesday's.  They still have a $12.99 three course meal offer that we haven't taken advantage of.  On the way home I will run into Aldi's for a few vegetables that Pat forgot to put on the Walmart Online Order.

Yesterday I did pick up the order she had placed at the nearby Walmart.  The nicest young lady brought them out and put them in the car.  She had a great personality and I came home and did the short survey that pertained to the service I had received and I gave her the 5 starts.  This was the first time I had done this.  Before I went to coffee I picked up the prescription for my very, very expensive shampoo.  My part was $56 dollar and the cash price would have been $350.  I am to use it three times a week for 4 weeks.  You have to apply it to the dry hair and wait 15 minutes before showering.  I sure hope this works.  I asked the pharmacist why this was so expensive and she had no idea other than the drug companies basically get to set the price.

Janet, I have these tiny bumps on my scalp that itch a bit and they scale off.  The PA told me it could be a form of fungi or so something else as it was very difficult to assess.  I was just thankful that the insurance covered most of the cost as would have declined to have the prescription filled if I had been required to pay the complete cost.  We did get the new freezer containers yesterday that are freezer, microwave and dishwasher safe and are very sturdy.  Pat didn't think they would hold a quart so we got the measuring cup and filled it with a quart of water and poured into one of them and it was that size plus another 3 ounces. They are basically square cube size.  There were six in the package and we probably wouldn't have room for all of them in the freezer at one time but they will also made excellent refrigerator storage units.  It sounds like Abby's had a very memorable experience this summer and probably was life changing.  So sorry that Darrel is having so much difficulty.  I take it the Xanax is not helping his anxiety.  It is important to have doctors you can trust.

Carol, I guess they must finally have started using the new VA hospital there in Denver.  There must have been some terrible planning, design and management of the project to have such large overruns.  There was no generic for the shampoo as I had inquired with the Pharmacist a few days ago.  If this doesn't solve the problem I will try to remember the baby shampoo.  I decided to stop using the Alberto VO 5 for men with grey hair for awhile and see if that helps.  Our son did come out for a few minutes yesterday and helped me unload the car.  I just read this morning that one of the women in that New Mexico situation is an illegal that has been in the US for 20 years.

Jackie, there was a long tribute to Aretha Franklin on the news yesterday.  She did have a very memorable voice.  It is good to see your posting and hope all is well over your way and you are staying cool in the hot weather.

You may have seen this before (I have) but it is certainly worth another read.  I would like to use it as part of a devotional I will give for our Sunday School class a week from Sunday but know I could never get through it without becoming very emotional, as I have just now reading it again.

Two Choices,
What would you do?....you make the choice. Don't look for a punch line, there isn't one. Read it anyway. My question is: Would you have made the same choice?

At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves children with learning disabilities, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question:

'When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does is done with perfection.

Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do.

Where is the natural order of things in my son?'
The audience was stilled by the query.

The father continued. 'I believe that when a child like Shay, who was mentally and physically disabled comes into the world, an opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other people treat that child.'

Then he told the following story:

Shay and I had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, 'Do you think they'll let me play?' I knew that most of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but as a father I also understood that if my son were allowed to play, it would give him a much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by others in spite of his handicaps.

I approached one of the boys on the field and asked (not expecting much) if Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance and said, 'We're losing by six runs and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we'll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning..'

Shay struggled over to the team's bench and, with a broad smile, put on a team shirt.. I watched with a small tear in my eye and warmth in my heart. The boys saw my joy at my son being accepted.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay's team scored a few runs but was still behind by three.

In top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the right field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to be in the game and on the field, grinning from ear to ear as I waved to him from the stands.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay's team scored again. Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat.

At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the game? Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn't even know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball.

However, as Shay stepped up to the plate, the pitcher, recognizing that the other team was putting winning aside for this moment in Shay's life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay could at least make contact.

The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed. The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay. Athe pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the pitcher.

The game would now be over. The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman. Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game.

Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman's head, out of reach of all team mates.
Everyone from the stands and both teams started yelling, 'Shay, run to first!

Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to first base. He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled.

Everyone yelled, 'Run to second, run to second!'

Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling to make it to the base.

By time Shay rounded towards second base, the right fielder had the ball. The smallest guy on their team who now had his first chance to be the hero for his team.

He could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but he understood the pitcher's intentions so he, too, intentionally threw the ball high and far over the third-baseman's head.

Shay ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home. All were screaming, 'Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay'

Shay reached third base because the opposing shortstop ran to help him by turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted, 'Run to third!

As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the spectators, were on their feet screaming, 'Shay, run home! Run home!'

Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as the hero who hit the grand slam and won the game for his team

'That day', said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face, 'the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into this world'.

Shay didn't make it to another summer. He died that winter, having never forgotten being the hero and making me so happy, and coming home and seeing his Mother tearfully embrace her little hero of the day!

AND NOW A LITTLE FOOT NOTE TO THIS STORY:

We all send thousands of jokes through the e-mail without a second thought, but when it comes to sending messages about life choices, people hesitate.

The crude, vulgar, and often obscene pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion about decency is too often suppressed in our schools and workplaces.

If you're thinking about forwarding this message, chances are that you're probably sorting out the people in your address book who aren't the 'appropriate' ones to receive this type of message Well, the person who sent you this believes that we all can make a difference.

We all have thousands of opportunities every single day to help realize the 'natural order of things.' So many seemingly trivial interactions between two people present us with a choice:

Do we pass along a little spark of love and humanity or do we pass up those opportunities and leave the world a little bit colder in the process?

A wise man once said every society is judged by how it treats it's least fortunate amongst them.

Larry, may I suggest you use the story in spite of your worry about tears.  Tears are the mark of a true man (in my opinion!)
I love this story, and feel with the father, having had a handicapped child of my own.

Praise God, the guys got our well repaired yesterday!  I think I told you this already........ :-[

I now have a purple patch in the top of my hair, in honor of Beth's birthday which is coming up soon.  Getting wild in my old age, I guess.  ;)

Hi Everyone.  It is another overcast morning and will be a mostly cloudy day.  It will keep the temperatures in the high 80's today.  Pat was not up to going out to eat yesterday so we just stayed home and had a quiet day.  I will have a pretty busy day, or at least morning, as plan on attending a meeting.  I also plan on stopping at Lowe's to check out the small freezers.  Since we only have one car now we have room in our garage.  The freezer in our refrigerator is upright and the shelves are narrow and it is a bit difficult to get some of the things out.  This would give us more options on buying frozen dinners from Schwan's and other places and not have to shop as often for frozen things.  I also need to stop at Aldi's for some fresh vegetables and a couple of other things.  Hopefully Pat will feel up to eating out later this afternoon.  That will be plenty for today.

Janet and Jackie, I have become a very emotional person ever since I had my first heart surgery many years ago.  I am not ashamed of being emotional but just don't want to not be able to continue to read something when I am doing the devotionals.

Janet, so glad you were able to get your well fixed and I don't believe you have mentioned that here before.  I wonder how many comments you will get from the purple patch in your hair?

Jackie, I guess I got the message that men shouldn't cry as I was growing up.  I only saw my father cry a few times.  My mother was very emotional and I guess I have taken after her a lot.

Janet

Larry, I thought that was likely the reason, and I do understand.  It's never easy when we become emotional in public.  I guess I'm fortunate in that I can cry quietly, and have become less uncomfortable about doing so, since Beth went to heaven.  She has been very much on my mind lately; maybe because her birthday is coming up soon.  For quite a few years, every year at this time I wondered if she would be with us another year, so always had a party for her.  I have gotten quite a few comments, everything from, "I love your hair!" to "Was that on purpose?"  Several said they admired me for having the courage to do it.  It's not very dark, really a soft lavender color, but everybody is noticing it!  I'm wondering how long it will last.  :)  It's not nearly as daring (or glaring) as a lot of things I've seen done with hair!  And I feel sure if Beth could see me, it would make her smile!  8)

I went out early to the Farmers' Market as I wanted to buy a small frozen casserole from a friend who always has them there.  It's for a gift for a long-time friend who is having severe health problems.  She has Rheumatoid Arthritis, and it's now attacking her lungs.  I just wanted to do something nice that might give her a little lift.

Darrel seems to be better again today.  He has been looking at his clothes, said he took out some pants he knows will fall off him since he's lost so much weight.  He's talking about the Alaska trip, so I feel more at ease about his condition now.  Guess I better think about packing, too--we are to leave two weeks from today!

I'm reading a book on my phone called The Girl with No Name, about a girl who was kidnapped at almost five years old, in Columbia, then dumped in the jungle and raised by monkeys--a true story.  Fascinating!

Kudos to everyone who has been through many storms in life and you "soldier on" with peace in your hearts.

I think we about to have a real storm here as predicted.  The warnings are up.

Posting for Kelly at his request.

Hi Larry

I read your article online and very moving it was.

Whether a person has a physical disability as I have, or what in the United Kingdom is known as a severe learning disability.   It is not what you cannot do in life, it is all about what you can do.

Why did I say severe learning disability?

Simply, because Mentally handicapped or a Mental disability is not a phrase that most parents in the UK use now.

As for men crying, surely it is the mark of a true man and woman.

Hi Everyone on a very cloudy and dark morning.  It looks like we will be in the mid-80's today and a good possibility of rain.  We did get a very nice rain last evening.  Our timing was great as we had gone out to eat and had just gotten back into the car when it started to rain and it came down is considerable quantities.

We had a delicious dinner last night at Ruby Tuesday's taking advantage of their 3 course dinner for $12.99.  It started with a trip to their great salad bar and then the entree with one side.  Pat had the Tilapia with steamed broccoli and I had the 6 oz. sirloin steak and a nice side of coleslaw.  Then the third course was chocolate cake with a scoop of ice cream or key lime pie.  Pat and I both chose the chocolate cake.

I am ready to go to Sunday School and then Church.  I don't know whether Pat will try to go to Church this morning or not as she isn't up yet.  If so I will come home and get her.  The rest of the day will be spent quietly and restfully.  If she goes we will likely stop somewhere for lunch and if not I will pick up something to bring home for our main meal of the day.

Janet, it sounds like your purple hair spot is very attractive and is getting a lot of comments.  I admire you for being welling to try new things.  We do miss our children but I find the pain lessens and the good memories overtake the less than good memories as time goes on.  Nice of you to take such a thoughtful gift to your poor friend.  It must be terrible to have the arthritis attack one's lungs.  Glad to read the positive news regarding how Darrel is feeling.  Hopefully in another two weeks he will be feeling much better and will be able to enjoy your trip.

Carol, hope the storm wasn't as bad as predicted for your area.  You all do get some interesting weather.

Janet

We had a nice rain of a half inch last night. Further North in our county I hear they got much more- up to 5 inches, along with high winds!  Glad we didn't get that!

We have been to church and now I'm trying to think what I can do for our lunch.  I started another flower painting for Abby yesterday.  She wants three of them for her apartment, and I'm pleased she likes what I'm doing.  I have one finished already.  The harder part is cutting the mats and buying the frames!  I'm trying to start my framing business up again, but am having trouble with all the paperwork, tax number, etc.  :-\

Larry, your meals yesterday sound delicious!  We aren't eating very much these days, it seems, and then have leftovers to deal with.  That's good sometimes; sometimes not!  We have eaten a lot of chicken lately!

Darrel is watching football, with his eyes closed.  And I turned the volume down so low I can't hear it.   ;)

It seems my Facebook account has been hacked, and is sending my friends that baloney message about winning lots of money.  Grrr!  And I have no idea how to fix it!

I hope you are all having a pleasant day!

Hi Everyone.  It looks like we will have a bit cooler day today with the chance of afternoon and evening showers.  The only think I have planned for today is a trip to Costco.  I am going to get a rotisserie chicken and we are going to eat out main meal today at noon while the chicken is still hot.  The rest of the day will be quiet and restful.

Janet, nice to read that Darrel felt up to going to Church yesterday.  I saw the picture you painted of the pink bird on your Facebook page and it is beautiful. Is this one of the painting you are doing for Abby?  I hope you have good luck in re-establishing your framing business.  We also eat a lot of chicken.  I will start watching football this coming Saturday.  I just can't get into watching the pros before the regular season.

Carol

Thankful and blessed - I had a hard fall yesterday in the church parking lot when walking to the car after the 7:30 AM chapel service.  I was looking for my car and did not see a wooden sign that usually stands up but had folded flat.  It is always a shock to fall.  Nothing broken - bruising marks and I look a mess.  So very thankful.

We were planning to drive to Montana to visit a couple of days but that son told us the smoke from British Columbia fires is so heavy that they are staying indoors with A/C and air filters running.  This morning, it sure looks terrible in the west here as well.

Larry:  We get three meals from one of the fat roasted chickens and always a soup.  Now, we can get delivery free if we order over $35 and since we get some OTC meds & such, that would be nice not to go through the store & push a big cart.

One grandson and our daughter came for a visit yesterday - bringing a pizza and a chocolate cake.  Our other two grands started school. in Fort Collins.  This grandson will drive to Minnesota at the end of the week for his senior year.

Janet:  Wishing you the best as you make decisions in your life.  Listen to your heart. Prayers for you.

Prayers for all who have lost homes, work and more in these fires.

Janet

Larry, Abby liked the free-looking flowers, so am making larger ones than card size for her.  She certainly has her own tastes and ideas!  Wish we had a Costco!  We do have a new Casey's General Store--famous for Pizza, is what all their ads proclaim.  I bought one, and we didn't like it at all; not nearly as good as Puffy's!  We got out of church a bit after 10:30, came home until around one and then decided to go out and eat.
We went to Garcia's and had Mexican food.

I painted more flowers yesterday, don't like this one at all, so will paint something else on the other side of the paper!

Oh, Carol!  I'm so sorry about your fall!  That is such a shock and insult to your whole body!  But I'm very thankful nothing was broken.  I know you will likely be stiff and sore for a few days at least, but oh, it could have been so much worse!  Thank You God, for protecting Carol!

Darrel is still in bed!  I went in at 8:30 and asked if he plans to sleep all day, and he said he was thinking about it, or until noon, anyway!  So I left him alone.  Guess he's trying to make up the sleep he lost, but I've read that isn't possible to do.

I managed to get my Facebook password changed, but it took me an hour! :P  Hope the darn hackers leave me alone now!

I need to make a couple calls regarding my book.  This company isn't nearly as easy to work with as Tate was, back in the good days.  ???

Carol, were there people who saw you fall, and came to help?

Good Morning. I know I haven't been posting voery regularly but I do read the posts every day. The Furry friends annual picnic was yesterday. I tookn Keith along and he  had a good time. everyone came over to him and shared a few words and told him who they were. I had email some of them ans asked them to do that so he would feel comfortable. I didn't sit with him to say but two of the men did and one of their wives. I sat down with him when It ook him dessert and wehen we  started to play the Cornhole game. We came home by 3pm.

Janet I'm glad you got yourpasswordf changed on FB. I too wish we had a Costco here. The closest one is 75 miles away.

Carol sorry about your fall. Glad thefe was not serious damage.

larry you are so faithful to post here every single day. If I didn't see a post from  you each day I would  wonder if you were not well.

Hi Everyone.  it is another overcast morning but we will be only in the high 80's late this afternoon and a less than 50% chance of rain.  I guess the highlight of my day yesterday was the quick trip to Costco yesterday morning and then yesterday afternoon I purchased a small 7 cubic feet freezer.  It is to be delivered sometime today between 8 am and 12 pm.  We will put it in our garage now that we are down to one car.  It will take awhile to get it stocked up.  We have to let it set for 48 hours before turning it on as it lets the gases resettle from having been moved.

I did enjoy watching a special Antiques Road Show program that took pieces from program back several years ago and at the end of the segment it showed the appraised value then and then again in 2014.  It was a special for the South Carolina Public Television Station's fund raising evening.

Today should be a pretty quiet day. We plan to have a salad supper tonight.  It is easy to do and healthy and Pat made a super dessert Sunday evening that will really top off the meal.

Carol, so sorry that you fell but so thankful you didn't break anything.  I expect you will be feeling more of the impact today.  The bruises will heal and the aches shouldn't last too long.  Too bad you have had to cancel your plans to go to Montana.  Our chicken yesterday wasn't up to the quality of most from Costco as it wasn't completely cooked.  They had obviously cut the cooking time short although it looked cooked as was nice and brown on the skin.  Pat felt it wasn't cooked all the way and put it in the oven.  She took the rest off the bone and will use it for enchiladas, which will be cooked so it should be fine.  We had an email about the one and two day delivery from Costco but Pat checked and it isn't yet offered by our local store.  But I expect it soon will be and that gives us more options, especially with the freezer available.  It is nice when the company brings the meal as your grandson did.  Is he still playing ice hockey for his school?

Janet, it sounds like you have your painting set out for you as you do the larger pictures for Abby.  We were very happy to see the Costco was located so close to us when we moved as it hadn't been close where we were living.  It sounds like you and Darrel were able to enjoy a pleasant day yesterday. I expect Darrel is going to need extra rest as he continues to recovery from his surgery.

Marilyn, good to see your posting.  I am sure you have a full schedule caring for Keith as well as you volunteer activities.  Nice that Keith enjoyed his time out at the picnic and that folks came and spoke to him and sat with him.  I enjoy posting here but please don't worry about me if you don't see an early posting.  Sometimes I have things I need to do before having time to post.

Carol

Still aching but the bones feel better this morning.  I did get on the treadmill, and read devotions.

Thank you for caring - I know everyone has gone through some kind of missteps along their lives - it comes as a shock.  I called church and left a message that the wooden tent like signs should never be placed flat in the parking lot - but added that it was totally my fault for looking up to find my car.  It is a huge parking lot.  I only go to the smaller chapel and that seats several hundred for sure.

Marilyn:  That was thoughtful of you and the men too for making sure Keith felt comfortable.

Janet:  You are right - muscles are sore & I can barely sit or stand up from a chair but it will get better.  I would love to soak in a tub but feel sure it would be impossible to get out of the tub.

We had a record low in the 40's barely yesterday morning - here comes the cooling.  Not fast enough.  Aspen trees are way early this year - the gold in the hills, I mean.

Larry:  I have heard that before about undercooked chicken and they really need to know your concerns.  Have never experienced it myself.  Grandson will stay overnight here this Friday and then he heads for Minnesota.  He plays hockey and coaches (in summer) younger boys.  They asked for him to be their coach.  He is a senior this year and takes every math class he can .  Other grandson is going to school full time and is hanging windows - there has been so much hail damage, there will always be work & that is in a little city north of here.  Granddaughter is back from summer school in London - Economics classes and a lot of side country trips.  Back to reality now.  You will like the freezer outside - we keep a small one there plus a full fridge.  It saves trips to the stores plus I like to fix food for the freezer to keep on hand.

Janet

Marilyn!!  Good to have you back again!  I'm sure there will be many things you need to help Keith with as time goes by, but making him feel a part of your activities and feel comfortable with others is a wonderful thing.  I know, from our experience with my Dad, that dealing with this condition is challenging, but I'm confident you are strong and can handle it.  May God bless you and give you comfort as you proceed.

Carol, sorry you're sore and stiff, but so, so glad there are no broken bones. You will probably need to see a good chiropractor when you are feeling better, to make sure everything's in alignment.  At least, that's what I would need.  I jut realized, I'm sounding rather 'preachy' and that isn't my intention at all!!

We have two big freezers in the garage, the side-by-side in the kitchen and another refrigerator with top freezer in the back!  Too many to keep track of what is where!  One refrigerator and one freezer were Beth's.

It's unseasonably cool here, too!  But sure feels nice!

I'm doing laundry again, and will start laying out clothes for the Alaska trip. This time of year, I'm not sure what to take, so am thinking layers is the way to go.  Will probably be pretty cool early and late, nice in between.

I should have the first edit review back on my book next week!

Blessings to you all!  And Jackie, please come back and talk to us!

Hi Everyone.  It is a beautiful morning here in South Carolina but we are headed up to 90 degrees this afternoon.  I am getting the morning off to a slow start but don't have anywhere to go today.  Scott will be out this evening to have dinner with us.  We did get the deep freeze delivered yesterday and it is just the right size for the two of us.

Yesterday evening I noticed there was a special on Betty White on our PBS station at 8 pm.  We watched that and really enjoyed it as I have watched Betty White I guess since we first had television in about 1957.  That was followed by wonderful concert by the Budapest Symphony Orchestra with a marvelous violinist named Zolt?n M?ga who I had never heard of before.  This was a special Christmas Concert with 16,000 people in attendance and was a program made especially for PBS, which they were using for their fund raising efforts this week.  I only got through about half of it and will watch the remainder of it today.  I just wish I had been recording the whole program and not the last half as it was so enjoyable and such beautiful music.  I found some of his recordings on Spotify.com and am listening to them now.

Carol, glad to see you were feeling better yesterday morning and hope today see more easing of the aches.  You don't slowly work into things out your way in terms of weather.  The 40 degree morning must have been a bit of a shock.  The last time we were in Denver it was the end of October and the Aspen trees were all golden colored and the leaves were beginning to fall.  Thanks for the info on your grandson.  It sounds like you have very accomplished grandchildren.  Nice to read that your granddaughter has safely returned from her summer in England.

Janet, we can't remember what is in our refrigerator freezer and sure would have problems with your setup.  With the little freezer we have we won't have to keep the refrigerator freezer so packed that it is difficult to find anything.  We will be stocking it with meal portions of things that Pat fixes from leftovers plus things like Pot Pies and Marie Callendar frozen dinners.  Will you be sailing from Seattle to Alaska on your trip or are you flying up there?

Carol

Thankful for an overcast cool morning.  We need cleaner air - I haven't heard anything about the fires in Canada but the smoke is still affecting Montana and several states.

Janet:  I imagine this is a boat trip - you will want to bring a hooded waterproof jacket and if it is thin enough, it can fit over a sweater or sweatshirt.  Some people bring very fancy dresses - but we travel light.  Wishing you a fantastic trip!

Larry:  Spotify sounds interesting.  We like to ask ALEXA to play our music and Don likes to ask it questions.  Finally, now it will play some Christian music as previously, it would not recognize any I asked.   ::)    You will use the new little freezer a lot - it saves trips to the store.  We are expecting hot weather again in a few days.  Our g-daughter is a senior this year and she is renting a room in a 5 bedroom house.  Each bedroom has its own bath.  It sounds like these were built especially for students - it is a college town.  I don't know how the kitchen works - she likes to cook and bake - especially chocolate.  The bus is free and usually set up close to the student living quarters.

Liz

Hi from the island.

BC has been declared a state of emergency.  There are around 566. Forest fires burning in the province and over 30 here on the island. Have not seen a
blue sky in what seems forever and the smoke is hanging in the air and visible to the eye. Many people evacuated all over the province and air quality is terrible. I stay inside rather than go out in the smoke and heat.  We have not had rain for a long time other than a light shower days ago.  Alberta is also getting very severe smoke. What terrible times we are living in now.

Teddy the cat is doing well and is a constant joy in my life now. He is very loving and quick to learn things.  The smoke is also bothering him.
Carol expressed interest in the fires, so I decided to stop in and give the data. It is also a problem in US and many folks are going thru terrible times.  Prayer is certainly needed...

God Bless,
Liz

...I think something strange this year has happened globally...We in UK experienced one of our hottest and driest summers since 1976, and it was on our tv news that Spain and Portugal's heatwave temperatures had reached 47 c - 48 c...breaking an all-time Europe record....thankfully UK doesn't suffer the forest type fires other countries suffer...I so worry about our wildlife...
Liz, stay safe and do keep your cat with you in doors....unless you are told differently to follow another safe procedure..

Hi Everyone.  We are expecting another beautiful partly cloudy morning and then sunny afternoon with no expectation of rain and a temperature high of about 86.  I have a full morning planned and have already been pretty busy with kitchen chores.  I still will need to fix Pat's breakfast and fold a basket of clothes.  Then I will make a quick stop at the Walmart Pharmacy to pick up a couple of prescriptions and then pick up my friend to go downtown to have coffee with the guys.  I anticipate that we will be having one of our homemade frozen dinners this evening as our main meal.

Carol, It sounds like you have an adequate source of the music by asking ALEXA.  However, do you have to repeat the request process after every son plays or it will continue to play the same type of music as the song you requested?  We are looking forward to using the little freezer as it opens up a lot of possibilities that we havene't had before.  It sounds like your granddaughter will have a nice setup for her living arrangements and transportation for her senior year.  Does she plan to continue on to graduate school?

Liz, so sorry to read of all of the fires up your way as well as all the fires in the Western parts of the USA.  It sure is a good idea to stay inside as much as possible.  Glad you have a new cat in the family to bring you joy.  It is always good to see your postings.

Jackie, I saw reports of the heat wave in Spain that broke previous records.  I am sure glad your country doesn't have the forest fires that are being experienced other places.  Does being close to the sea help moderate your temperatures both summer and winter?

...where I now live I often forget I am near the sea.. there are hills, valleys, pastures and farmlands separating, as I have mentioned I am situated way down in the valleys...One could almost believe one is surrounded by country and wildlife, with such a lot of greenery and trees surrounding us...So I would say living here is a lot healthier and one can breathe in cleaner air...

Good morning from a finally cooler day.  This is more like normal but still there is a lot of smoke in the air.  We are at a higher altitude than Denver so that always helps our air.

Liz:  I spoke with one of my brothers in Chelan, Washington.  He is almost on the Columbia River and they have so much smoke that they could not see the bridge that is less than 3 miles away.  He is a volunteer fireman - the guys (including him) had to run and leave a hose at one fire.  I think it is nice that you have a fun cat especially when you are better off indoors than outside now.  Yes, keep the prayers and I will pray for Canada.  Seattle (my old home town) is just awful too.

Larry:  ALEXA will play similar music often.  I like it because it is the only "thing" I can order around anymore  :)  Really, it is kind of creepy to have something "listening" and I know some corporations will not allow staff to own these eavesdropping machines.  Our g-daughter isn't talking grad school yet.  When you mention going downtown for coffee, how large is your town?  It sounds like it is convenient.  We have too many people moving here and traffic is congested but everything we need is convenient except the new VA hospital where Don has his appointments.

My volunteer fireman brother says he has a mask that contains charcoal and it is supposed to be better than the usual mask.  I am going to look for it online - it could go in the emergency kit.

Hi Everyone.  It is a beautiful morning and when I went out to the mailbox it actually felt a bit chilly.  Yesterday was a beautiful day and it appears today will be the same.  I have an appointment with my cardiologist this morning and on the way back will stop at our Community Ministries Thrift Store to drop off a couple of bags of clothes from Pat and then stop at Aldi's for a couple of items as it is on the path home.  The housekeeper will be here this morning and I think we will be staying in the rest of the day.  We have leftovers in our refrigerator for a good meal this evening and then we plan on eating out tomorrow afternoon.

Jackie, it sounds like you live in an beautiful area and one where you are surrounded by the natural beauty of nature.

Carol, I hadn't thought about the "ordering around" aspect of ALEXA.  I can actually do the same thing with SIRI on the iPhone or the Google app but just haven't needed to do so.  It sounds like your brother was not in a good spot if they had to run to escape the fire and leave the fire hose.  Our town is about 26,000 people and is right across the bridge from downtown Augusta and surrounding area which is much bigger.  I am glad I live on this side of the river although at the time I go through downtown Augusta it never seems to have too much traffic.  It is a straight shot from our downtown area to the hospital and the doctor's offices where most of my doctors are located.

I was here to read yesterday, but didn't post.
I had gotten my first manuscript review for the book and they wanted some changes, so I got busy working on that, and the day flew by!  Please pray with me that I can make the book what the Lord told me to do with it--glorify God, honor Beth's life, and encourage people.  After some reflection, and talking it over with Darrel, I can see that what they said is right, and believe I can make it better.

The fires and resulting smoke are terrible.  Even out here, I hear people complaining about the smoke bothering them, stirring up allergies, etc.
I do hope they get the fires out soon, that no more fire fighters will be hurt, and no more homes and businesses lost.

Tonight is the yearly Rendevouz The With the Arts at the Main ARTery where my paintings are on display.  Their theme is "Tie one on!" and those who wear something that has to be tied on are entered into a special drawing.  I'm wearing one of my logis I bought in Burma (Myanmar) as the skirt wraps around and has to be tied on, plus the scarf is also tied on!  That ought to work, huh?  One of the gals spent days making a pattern and constructing an apron from men's neckties to wear.  Not me!

Liz, it's always good to see a post from you!  I'm so glad you have Teddy kitty now to enjoy.  I really hope the fires and smoke dissipate in your area as well.  Hugs to you, dear one!

Carol, thanks for the tip on clothing for the cruise.  I am mainly concerned about things to wear for dinner in the evenings, as I've heard they really dress up for that.  I don't want to take a lot of things as the extra luggage on planes is costly, plus I don't want to lug it around.  Darrel doesn't, either, and isn't really up to it yet.  I pray your fire fighter brother stays safe!!

Darrel took so much pain killers that he messed up his sensitive stomach, and was nearly ready to go back to the hospital, but I told him they couldn't do anything about it.  He started burping and I told him that was what he needed to do, and to stop taking the pain killers, that the surgeon told him it will take his body 2 to 3 months to heal from the "manipulation" of the surgery.  He just doesn't handle pain well at all!  Poor guy.

Jackie, good to hear from you.  I'd love to see the area where you live, it sounds lovely!  You would not be impressed to see where I live!  ;)  But it does make us appreciate other areas of the world.

Larry, I haven't given up on visiting you and Pat.  It won't be this year, but in 2019 we won't plan so many trips.  I think we will slow down on traveling now.  Unless we both get to feeling really good again!

I need to check the bacon Darrel put in the little Foreman grill!

... yes idyllic scenery but I dont get out and about to see very much of it...I do enjoy what I can see from my windows and back door...

...although I left behind nicer and friendlier neighbours than I have here...I am very appreciative of my now surroundings but also starting to remember those we knew and left behind before our move...It was only the other day various names were springing up and I got to wondering how those " back home " ( it will always be back home to me )...have been keeping...more so the elderly friends we once knew...even if they are still alive...I had a letter not long back from one friend who sadly told me that soon after we moved she lost not only her hubby but also her mother who lived just a road away...

Hi Everyone. This is going to be another beautiful day here in South Carolina with the sun and a few clouds but will be dry and less humid.  It is suppose to get up to around 90 late this afternoon.  I did have my appointment yesterday with the cardiologist and had a very long wait to see him.  It was two hours from the time of my appointment until I was in the car headed back toward home.  He did increase my Entresto medication and I will see him again in four months.  On the way home I make a breif stop to drop off the clothes at the thrift shop, picked up Chick-Fil-A sandwiches for our lunch and made a quick stop at Aldi's on the way home.  I was glad we had decided to wait until today to go out to eat as I was pretty tired and still feeling the effects of it this morning.  I plan on staying home until we go out to eat later this afternoon and taking things easy.  I plan on watching some golf later this afternoon.

Janet, it sounds like your book project is moving right along and glad you feel the recommended edits are worthwhile.  I hope you had a great time at the ARTery event last night and won a prize.  Sorry to see that Darrell continues to struggle with the effects from his surgery and the medications.  I do hope you will be able to come to visit with us.

Jackie, I am emphasize with you on the losing touch with friends of long standing.  This has also happened to Pat and I as we had a large number of friends and acquaintances where we had lived for about 20 years before moving here.  Some of them have now passed on or moved away from the area and age is impacting the health of many of them.  However, that is life and something we have experienced again and again over the years as we have moved all over the country in the last 50 plus years.

Janet

I am really hoping September is a better month for us than July and August have been!  Yesterday, Darrel went out into the garage and came back to ask me to help him dump the big trash can, as he said it was stinking.  We did that, then I noticed that the farther back in the garage I went, the stronger the stink.  I knew it was too much to just be a mouse or bird the cat had brought in......then I opened the door of the back refrigerator!  PHEW!!!! It had quit cooling, and everything inside was rotten!! What a ghastly mess!  Darrel helped a little bit, but was feeling bad, so most of it was up to me.  I worked so hard, and got it cleaned up and hauled out, then had only a bit over an hour before time to go to the Main Artery for the big deal there.  I can shower and get ready in record time, when I need to!  I was so tired and hurting, too, so I took a couple of Tylenol to help me through the evening.

I had a nice time, heard lots of nice comments on my paintings, ate some good food, and was even told that I looked pretty--and even elegant!! Wow! I surely wasn't expecting that!  :) ;)  But it did make me feel better.

Today I want to get more cleaning done in the garage, put the peaches we have left in the freezer and work on my manuscript.  Nothing much to do. ;) :D

I hope you are all enjoying a pleasant day, with only GOOD surprises, if you have surprises!

A grandson called and asked to visit overnight - along with the new family dog.  Sure!  It was great.  He and Don along with one son went out for a meal, returned to chat for hours.  I took the dog (Lola) for a really long walk both last night and this morning.  It brings reality to the fact we cannot take on a dog anymore.  No matter how well-mannered, it is too much work with all our stairs and the yard has an open fence.  That is not allowed to be changed.

All the bedding is being washed and everything will be ready for another son & wife & dog to visit in mid-September for a week.

Larry:  That sounds like a nice size area for you plus good access to the big hospitals if needed.

Jackie:  We have moved too often for new jobs that we have lost touch with some good friends.  This last move, I have found three new terrific friends through church.  Still keep in touch with old friends and do love it when we can ever get together.  You live in a beautiful area - away from London and from what I have read about the changes in that large city and its new problems, it is good you are far from it.

Janet:  Prayers for a better month for you two!  It sounds like you can make the little changes they want on your latest book.  Best to you.  Sorry for your fridge problem - that is a disappointment.  How nice a compliment - accept it and enjoy!

We have commitments here but should be heading for the lower altitude - Don says he may feel better getting away from our mile-high area.

...of course the friends I am mainly talking of are the ones I would regularly stop for a chat when I was out and about the village dog walking...as you are all aware, nothing ever stays the same... as those were not only the days I HAD dogs to walk, they were also the days that I COULD walk around the streets too....I have fond memories of Joan who ran our Soda Shoppe ( S & Fs ) that whenever I got back after my daily morning walks, Joan took enjoyment when I posted of the people I stopped to have a chat with, the people I met along the way...some days more than others but, she so enjoyed my postings, it seemed to light up her day....I often wish I could relive those happy days again...

Ha ha, there was one elderly white bearded man, never really knew his name but whenever out with the dogs and we passed each other going in opposite directions, ( he was out doing his health walk, this was what his Dr had ordered, re, his medical condition )...he would always laugh and say " where is he this morning, is he out playing golf.." meaning the person I live with, I would always laugh and say yes, of course he was referring to the fact it was me doing the early morning dog walk and not him...

Hi everyone. I hope you are all doing better than you have been. The sxmoke from the fires kept the sun from breaking trhough all week until late afternoon. However, today it is shining brightly all day, but the wind is blowing. If it isn't one thing it is another as the old saying goes.

Jackie, do you not have at least 1 dog left? I thought you still had one dog.

I had a wonderful conversation  with obne of my foster sons whom I hadn't talked to for a long time =, many years, except on Facebook. He was able to call for free by using Google Talk on his computer. to call my cell phone.

On my Facebook page a memory came up of a photo of Jane , pat and Paul when they were here in Oregon some 7 or so years back. What a fun day that was.

...yes, there is Toby the Cocker Spaniel but I dont tend to exist in his life, he totally ignores me from the minute I get up in the morning, I would never see him wag a happy tail nor come give me a morning kiss...he is totally Rs dog, they tend to stick together like glue...Toby even moves away from me as I walk anywhere near him, towards him, have no clues as to why...Oh if I go to the kitchen and he hears me opening the cupboard to the dog treats jar, he will come of course...or if and when I get his dinner and I feed him on occasion..only then do I have my uses for him...he is very much an R's dog...( Richards..) it is Richards bed where he snuggles up on...never comes to my bedroom...
This is nothing to do with my MS condition, Toby has always been like this with me...he is aware I am sitting in the chair if I go in to see him when i get up 5 or 6.am, he maybe looking out the patio window into the back garden, totally ignoring I am sitting there, even if I do call his name...then when he does move, he will walk straight past me...sometimes to go straight into R's bedroom or looking for me to give him a treat so he goes out for a morning wee...

Hi Everyone.  It is going to be another moderate day temperature wise with no rain.  I will be going to Sunday School shortly as it is my day to give the devotional.  Then I will come home and pick up Pat and we will go to Church and then out to eat somewhere.  I think this will be the first time Pat has been out of the house for a week.  I plan to watch the end of the golf tournament later this afternoon.  We did not go out to eat yesterday as we had planned as neither of us really felt up to it.

Janet, I can imagine the mess you had with the refrigerator based on what a time we had trying to get the smell out of the car and garage from the package of cooked beef that got lose from the groceries and was in the truck for several days.  I hope your refrigerator wasn't terribly full of food.  It does sound like you had a nice time at the art event.

Carol, we enjoy the family visits but they are a bit tiring but well worthwhile as we can rest up.  Nice that Don had some could go out to a mean with your son and grandson as sure that is special time.  This is an ideal to place to live as the University of Georgia Medical and Dental Schools are located here as well as the University Hospital and a Doctor's Hospital.  The VA Hospital is also here in Augusta.

Jackie, I guess because we can't relive any day past that is why we have memories to keep the pleasant things in mind. I also remember how much you enjoyed your walks with your dogs.  Joan was a special person who made each person who posted on S&F's feel special.

Marilyn, I expect that sun and wind were welcome if they helped clear the smoke from the air.   Glad you were able to speak with your foster son.  We have many tools available for free communication with the computers and smart devices.

Janet

Happy Sunday afternoon!  We went to church, came home and Darrel took a short nap, then we went to Hugoton and had lunch with our kids, Diane and Jeff.  I took along the peach pie I made yesterday, and it was good, but the steaks they fixed were excellent!  So good to spend a little while with them, before Darrel started feeling sick and wanted to come back home.  He even wanted me to drive both ways.  I'm wondering how in the world he thinks he's up to going on a trip, when he isn't feeling better than he is, but I hope he will be much better by Saturday!

I have a couple things to swap around in my manuscript, then think I am done.  Will see what they think.

It was quite cool this morning, but it sure heated up.  It got downright hot out there!

See you tomorrow!

Hi Everyone. It is a bright and sunny morning and no rain in the forecast.  We expect to get into the low 90's this afternoon.  As usual on a Monday morning I don't feel very peppy and didn't get up until after 8 am, which is really late for me.  However, there is nothing pressing today and so will just take things easy and rest.  The tech will be here sometime after 11 this morning to check out my oxygen concentrator, which takes about 10 minutes.  I have no plans to go anywhere today.

We had a very nice Church service yesterday.  Our Church is having a three day adult Bible Sschool conducted by a retired minister named Ed Killbourne, who is a wonderful story teller and song writer.  He did the adult Bible School about this time last year with around 40 adults in attendance and it was really enjoyed so he was book to come back this year.  I elected not to attend as going for a three hour session three days in a row is just too much for me anymore.  Yesterday he did the children's time and then preached the sermon and then did a special concert last night.

Janet, it has been a long time since I had a piece of peach pie with some vanilla ice cream on top.  It sounds like you all had a nice lunch with Diane and Jeff.  Sorry that Darrel was once again feeling sick and know that is troublesome to you both especially with your trip time soon to be here.  Hopefully he will see big improvement this week and will be able to enjoy the trip.  I saw on your Facebook page this morning that you finished up your manuscript and I do hope, for your sake, that it is now acceptable to your publisher.

Janet

Thanks, Larry!  I took a printout of the book to my good friend who is the Episcopal Priest here, and also a painting buddy.  She is really intelligent, and she also told me she's a compulsive editor!  I told her that's just an added blessing, as I have likely missed some errors, even though I have combed it with a fine-toothed comb, several times.  She was delighted to read it and give me her honest opinion, which I really want before submitting it again.  She also gave me a tour of her garden and we shared a cup of coffee.  Delightful to have a visit with a friend today!

Darrel said this morning that if we had purchased the trip insurance, he would just cancel.  I asked him if he would feel any worse sitting on a bus, a train or a ship than he feels sitting here in his chair--he said "Probably not."
So it seems we will go.  Got out the suitcases and ready to pack!  Leaving on Saturday, if all goes according to plan.

I need to go check the garden to see if anything needs to be picked.  We're having to pick the tomatoes early, as the grasshoppers eat them as soon as they turn red, not fully ripe.   >:(

Well, I need to get busy and this is the time!!

I have been to church & met with friends - it is the early service at 7:30 AM and a serious job to drive out of the parking lots as the 2nd. service and Sunday School are arriving about 8:30 AM.  I have to stay alert to children going to their SS and all of the traffic.

Marilyn:
We can see the mountains today - it is still hot weather though.  I can hardly believe it has been 7 years since Pat came through here.  They were late eating at about 10 at night so it was such a quick visit for them.

Don had to go back to bed this morning - I don't know why he is so tired.  He can't wait to get to lower altitude.

Our grandson brought the latest dog and they stayed Friday through Saturday.  This is a sweet Golden Retriever - a small one rescued with a plane load from Turkey.  Seems very smart and so gentle and alert.  I took Lola out for two long walks and was so tired - everyone we met wanted to look at the dog and talk.

Watched a lot of John Glenn yesterday.  I wonder just how many people could withstand 5 1/2 years of torture from the Viet's.  I know one who didn't make it and his name is on the wall.  My brother had two childhood friends lost too.  We were so glad he was sent to Germany.

Larry:  We are happy to see an end to the 90's temperatures but this is still too hot - the house has a lot of windows to the east and south so it heats up indoors.  If I stay in the basement and sew - it is much cooler.  It sure looks like you and Pat have made the best decision to move to be near your son and all of the attractions you two can experience.

We have a free salad to pick up today at Panera coffee shop - we drove there and found the place closed for a power outage so I will check out another store tomorrow.  I have a letter from a local church here we have attended and will be joining.  The form only has room for the names of three children.  I have four - not so little ones but they need to know all the phone numbers.  The church I mean.

While we were out and looking towards the mountains, the smoke is still showing but it looks a little better.  Don's charcoal face masks arrived and that will be a good thing for smokey days.

I started this note ages ago.  Janet:  Best wishes for a safe trip - Don wants to go go go too and I  have some reservations about being away.

I did not know grasshoppers would touch the actual tomato - thought it was only the leaves which isn't good either.

Hi Everyone. It is another sunny morning but will become partly cloudy later today with a high in the mid-90's.  There isn't a too likely chance of rain until perhaps this evening.  I have nothing to write about yesterday as we just stayed home and rested, which seems to be  the norm on Mondays for me.  I hope today Pat will want to go for a haircut and then I will suggest to her that we stop and have our main meal out.  We finished the last of the homemade TV type dinners we had in the freezer last night.  I do have an appointment with a friend who will be here around 10 am this morning and he is very punctual.  All of that will be plenty for today.

Janet, I misunderstood as thought you had submitted your book after your final edit.  It is always good to have other eyes look at our work since it is hard sometimes to see our own errors as we see what we think it should be.  Nice of your Episcopal Priest friend to read your manuscript and offer her advice.  I do hope that Darrel can get some enjoyment from your trip although I expect it will be somewhat difficult for him.  You may have to help him get around with a wheelchair to save his energy.  I don't remember seeing any grasshoppers since we have lived here but I sure remember them from the farm where we had some really big ones.  They can be very destructive.

Carol, does your Church have folks out directing traffic and indicating where people should park?  We never know where those little ones are going to dart.  I sure hope that when Don gets to Arizona he will feel better.  I sure do understand dealing with that very tired feeling where one has to force themselves to do anything.  I also watched a lot of the tributes to John McCain yesterday.  I was glad to see that the White House put the flag back at half mast.  He sure had an interesting and full life and was his own man.  Happy to see you have found a Church you will be joining and I bet they won't mind having a name written in the margin.

Jackie, I loved the vibrant blue of the birthday card you posted for Carol this morning.

I'm trying the brown color today!  I just stopped in for a minute before we leave for appointments in Liberal.

Thinking so much about Beth, as this is her first birthday in heaven.  I asked Jesus this morning to give her a big hug!  She is dearly missed.  :'(  But I rejoice that she is happy and whole there in heaven, where we will soon be joining her.

Larry, Darrel doesn't seem to think he will need a wheelchair.  He is feeling a lot better these past two days, and eating more, which is encouraging. Nelda (trip leader) said we could bring a wheelchair, and I'm thinking it would be a good idea....we shall see!

Jackie, what a beautiful birthday card!  I love both the sentiment and the color--good job!

Happy Birthday, Carol!  How did I miss that?  But I wish you happy days every day!

I must run!  See you later!

(Hmmm--doesn't look brown to MY eyes!)   ^-^

Jackie:  How very thoughtful of you - thank you so much for the beautiful cyber card.  So special - you are so talented.  Have you been to Canterbury?  We stayed there and enjoyed the church service at the cathedral.  Such an enjoyable and friendly visit that we will never forget.  St. Mildred's.

Larry:  We only go to the early morning 7:30 AM service in the chapel so we miss the huge crowd and there are volunteers but not really traffic directors.  I go to that church for my good friends and we go to a Saturday night service at a Lutheran church that is quiet and Don can understand the speaker.

Today, I picked up at free salad at Panera's.  It is Fuji Apple and something else. I should be sewing but can't get into the mood.  Weather is changing here and we dearly hope and pray for fires to be extinguished - especially the over 500 burning in Canada.  Some snow has fallen in the high country and Wyoming and Montana so that is great news this year.

Hi Everyone.  Our morning starts out overcast but we will see the sun today.  There is a possibility of some rain this afternoon.  The only thing on our agenda for today will be to try to get haircuts (if the man Pat likes to have cut her hair is working today) and then we will once again so to Ruby Tuesday's to take advantage of the buy one get one offer that is good only for today.  This is Scott's day off and we are hoping he will want to join us and then likely he will be coming out to the house for a little while. Yesterday was a quiet day.  A little after two pm I made a quick trip to IHOP and got us a Colorado Omelet to bring home to share with some hash browns.  It is made with three eggs and was loaded with different meats.  I don't know how one person could really eat a whole one as it made a meal for both Pat and I.

Janet, I find the brown color and the font you use very easy to read.  While we grieve our loss we also rejoice in the fact that our daughters are no longer prisoners of their illnesses and pain.  I am sure it would be a bit of a hassle to deal with a wheelchair on your trip although a lot of people travel with one.  Glad to read that Darrel is feeling stronger and eating better and that should help him regain his strength.  Does your trip take to into the Interior of Alaska or will it be mainly staying on the ship with port visits?

Jackie, I was thinking also that it didn't seem like a year since Janet lost Beth but in rereading what she said I now understand it is a remembrance of her birthday.

Carol, there are many magnificent churches in this world.  I have seen a few of him from videos on the Internet but never have had the opportunity to see one of them.  I have a good friend who is a retired Lutheran minister and am really enjoying getting to know him.  We have attended a Lutheran Church a few times when we were visiting in Florida and we visited one when we were looking for a new Church home when we moved to Georgia.  While the ritual was a bit different we really couldn't tell any different in the message and that is the important thing.  Glad Don can understand what is being said in that Saturday night service. I bet the Fuji Apple salad was tasty.  I told Pat the other day that we need to go to the Panera over in Augusta as have always been pleased with the food and I love the French Crusty Bread.  They also make a caramel nut sweet roll that is so good.

Marilyn, you may find when you get rid of the cataracts that you may not need prescription glasses and only readers.  At least that was my experience.  I am now wearing glasses all the time but the top part are clear glass and the bifocal part is magnification for reading up close.  I got tired of having to put the readers on and taking them off so often.

I read this today and thought it was worthy of being shared and it certainly hits the nail on the head as to what we have experienced over the years.

The Stranger:

A few years after I was born, my Dad met a stranger who was new to our small town. From the beginning, Dad was fascinated with this enchanting newcomer and soon invited him to live with our family.

The stranger was quickly accepted and was around from then on. As I grew up, I never questioned his place in my family.  In my young mind, he had a special niche. My parents were complementary instructors: Mom taught me good from evil, and Dad taught me to obey. But the stranger....was our storyteller.

He would keep us spellbound for hours on end with adventures, mysteries and comedies. If I wanted to know anything about politics, history or science, he always knew the answers about the past, understood the present and even seemed able to predict the future!

He took my family to the first major league ball game. He made me laugh, and he made me cry.

The stranger never stopped talking, but Dad didn't seem to mind.   Sometimes, Mom would get up quietly while the rest of us were shushing each other to listen to what he had to say, and she would go to the kitchen for peace and quiet. (I wonder now if she ever prayed for the stranger to leave.)

Dad ruled our household with certain moral convictions, but the stranger never felt obligated to honor them. Profanity, for example, was not allowed in our home ?not from us, our friends or any visitors.

Our long time visitor, however, got away with four-letter words that burned my ears and made my dad squirm and my mother blush.   My Dad didn't permit the liberal use of alcohol but the stranger encouraged us to try it on a regular basis. He made cigarettes look cool, cigars manly, and pipes distinguished.

He talked freely, much too freely about sex. His comments were sometimes blatant, sometimes suggestive, and even embarrassing.   I now know that my early concepts about relationships were influenced strongly by the stranger. Time after time, he opposed the values of my parents, yet he was seldom rebuked... And NEVER asked to leave.

More than fifty years have passed since the stranger moved in with our family. He has blended right in and is not nearly as fascinating as he was at first. Still, if you could walk into my parents' den today, you would still find him sitting over in his corner, waiting for someone to listen to him talk and watch him draw his pictures.

His name?....

We just call him 'TV.'

The mention of the magnificent churches reminds me of a lady I met on one of our European trips.  It was her goal to sing in one of those churches in every country in Europe; and we were standing in one when she said that.  She said she was waiting for all the people to leave.
I asked if she minded if I stayed and listened to her sing--she didn't, so I stood a ways from her and she sang a beautiful a capella hymn, which resounded off the walls all around.  The acoustics in those places is magnificent!  It was a wonderful few moments, leaving me with an unforgettable memory. Of course, she had a wonderful, strong voice! Thanks for the reminder!

Larry, I've read that before about the stranger in the house.  Good warning--at any age!

Before we get on the ship, we have three full days of motor coach tours in and around Anchorage/Mt. McKinley, then Mt. McKinley/Denali, then Denali/Whittier.  Then aboard ship we go to: Anchorage/Whittier; Hubbard Glacier; Glacier Bay; Skagway; Juneau; Ketchikan; then a day at sea before arriving in Vancouver for our flight home.  And now you know as much as I do about it!   ;) :)  Our kids did this trip for their 25th anniversary and still have many fond memories.  They tell us they think we will really enjoy it!

I have baked a peach pie for our lunch at the painting class, need to "put my face on" and get moving!  TTYL!!

Janet your cruise sounds abvsolutely wonderful. I've told Keith that after Hawaii, my next adventure will be a cruise to Alaska, He has a friend that lives ib Juneau. I dn't know if that trip will ever happen, But I wouldf also like to do a river cruise up the Columbia, closer to home. Those cruises are for 7 days

Larry I will be getting distance lenses so will definitely be needing readers. I loved that story of the TV. I hadn't read that one before.

Carol when do you head back to Arizona?

Judy whats the latest word on Pat's health? Is she still in Canada or gone back to Virginia yet?

Keith seems to do well during the day but at night he often wakes up to ask "where am I?" Or Where did I go? I tell him I didn't go any place that I am still, right next to him in  the bed. I don't know if that is part of the dementia or he just woke up disoriented.

Hi Jackie I didn't forget you. Are you getting out much or do you mostly stay home?

Hi Everyone.  We are headed for another day with 100 degree heat index.  No rain materialized yesterday and it was hot.  I was so weary yesterday that I spent most of the day laying down in the morning and then again after I ate the lunch Pat fixed for me.  Then I laid down again for a few hours.  We did go out to eat at Ruby Tuesday's.  Scott elected not to go with us but did come out for a couple of hours and visit with us.  I actually felt like getting up this morning so think this will be a good day.  The only thing on the schedule for today is to pick up my friend and go to coffee for an hour.  If Pat feels up to going we will go for quick haircuts this afternoon.

Janet, what a wonderful memory of the lady singing.  I had not seen that "Stranger in the House" before.  It is a good reminder of how we are changed over time by little increments.  That sounds like a great trip and one where you shouldn't have to do a lot of walking or spend days on the ship.  I hope you both enjoy the trip very much.  You will certainly see a lot of different scenery than you have there in Kansas.

Marilyn, I hope you do get to make the trips you would like to make.  Thanks for the info on the glasses.

Janet

It's quite cool here this morning.  I wore a fleece jacket while out watering my flowers, and it felt just right.  I expect it will get much warmer later.

Larry, that's for sure!  Alaska looks far different from Kansas!  :)  I'm glad Darrel decided to take the wheelchair, though he is rethinking the decision.

I have to go take down my paintings at the Main ARTery today.  My month is up--already!!  Doesn't seem possible.  I will be renting a space to display some, but have decided to wait until October 1, since we will be gone for half of September.  The space won't hold all I had on display, so I will think about what to take, what may sell.  One painting and several of my cards sold this month, not a bad start.  And business there always picks up around Christmas!  ^-^

I'm having lunch with my friend the judge today.  We haven't been able to connect for a few weeks now.  And Carolyn (the priest) hasn't had time to read my book; she's working on writing a grant.  Those take lots of time. She promised to read it before I get home, though.

Marilyn, I hope you get to make those two trips to our farthest-flung states, too!  You will love them both, I'm sure.

Carol, where are you and Don planning to go?  Are you thinking of moving to a lower altitude?  I'm not sure I understood what you said.

Jackie, hope you get out and enjoy your area when you have the opportunity.  It sounds lovely there!  Come in and chat more, please.

I have a letter to Beth (in heaven) from her friend Faye, that I want to get typed into the manuscript.  Faye is older than me, and was Beth's boss on her last job.  She loved Beth fiercely and still wants to be included as much as possible in anything having to do with her.  Sweet lady, but I'm concerned about her, as she is having trouble getting around now.

I'd best get to it!

Marilyn:  The boat ride up the Columbia would be wonderful.  I have two brothers living in Chelan  - they were tired of the city stress Seattle turned into these last years.  Thanks for the greeting - it was a nice day.  --I am thinking Keith was dreaming when he mentions things in the morning.

Janet:  The trip sounds wonderful.  The big boats do not dock in Sitka anymore - it has such a beautiful harbor but... you will like all the rest.  Different way of living being so far and having to have things shipped.  not moving (that I know of) - Tucson is lower than this area so Don really likes it there.  I noticed it was 114* the other day.  Not planning any move at this time.  If Darrel thinks he needs the chair, he should take it because the crew is trained to be so supportive and watchful and helps so much.   It could save his energy.  Nice that you are writing to Beth in Heaven!

Dinner is cooking in the crock pot - chicken with a gravy.  It sounds so good after so many salads.

A note just came in from a cousin who has worked outdoors for the forest service in Washington and now paying the price for skin cancer.  We never knew the rarely seen sun could cause problems so hardly anyone had sun screen.

We recommend a movie on Netflix - it is a great dog story.  The name is Megan Leary (I believe that is correct) and it is about a young woman who joins the Marines and becomes a dog trainer that is to search for bombs.  True story.  I love these dogs - all the police dogs and military trained dogs are heroes.

Hi Everyone.  Not a cloud in the sky this morning and it is going to be another day with the heat index up to 100 degrees.  The only thing on the agenda for today is to do a grocery pickup at Walmart in an hour or so.  Yesterday morning I did got to coffee but my friend called shortly before I would have gone to pick him up saying he had a dental appointment  yesterday and couldn't go.  Yesterday afternoon Pat and I did get our hair cut.  We had dropped a birthday package off at the Post Office for Pat's sisters birthday on the way and as we came home we stopped at the Walmart Pharmacy to pick up a couple of prescriptions.

Janet, I am looking forward to some morning requiring a jacket when I am outside but it shouldn't be too long before that is a reality.  Even though it will be a bit of a hassle perhaps it is better to have the wheelchair and not need it than the other way around.  If you have a transport chair that would be lighter and easier to handle but has the disadvantage of not handling uneven spaces as well and going up inclines isn't easy based on my experience with Stacey.  I am sure Darrel will make the right decision as only he really knows how he is feeling. That was a fast month at the ARTery.  What a nice gesture by Beth's friend Faye.

Carol, I think living around any big city is very stressful and more so as we get older.  Sorry about your brother having the skin cancer.  I do know that you can get a terrible sunburn even on a cloudy day from my own experience.

Janet

Yes, it's easier to sunburn on a partly cloudy day, because it doesn't feel as hot or threatening for burning our skin!  Larry, not sure just what a transport chair is--is that the same as a walker with a seat? The wheelchair is tagged and ready to go, he has brought the old Mercury around front to load; as the Lincoln has a very small trunk space because of the batteries in it for the electric power.  (It is a hybrid.)

I got a new purple streak in my hair today!  The first one lasted only a week, and I wanted it for longer, so I got permanent color this time!  :)

I bought a charging stick (not sure that's the right term) for my phone this morning, as the battery has been draining in only two hours, so I hope this will keep it charged during the trip.

Carol, thanks for the clarification--you were talking about Tucson!  That's where my surgeon is moving!

I need to take some things to the mailbox, in case the mail should arrive today before 7:00 in the evening.  Service has been really bad lately!

Hi Everyone. It is going to be another hot and clear summer day getting into the mid-90's.  Finally last evening at dusk I turned on my sprinkler system and watered the lawn as it appears we won't be getting any rain this weekend and if we do all the better.  Only two things planned for today.  This morning I will go to my meeting and then this early evening we plan on going to Pizza Hut.  We have some bananas and oranges we got yesterday that we want to share with Scott and we likely wouldn't see him until next Wednesday.  When I picked up my grocery order yesterday at Walmart they gave me another gift bag and we will give Scott and the girls what is in it.  We finally put some items in the freezer yesterday and will continue to stock it.  I fixed us a salad meal last evening and it was good topped off with an ice cream sandwich.  The day has finally arrived to watch college football and I am ready.

Wednesday night told me about a service the Post Office offers where you can get an email every morning showing the front of each piece of mail you will be getting that day.  If you are interested just search of Informed Delivery USPS and you will the link to set up the service.  It is free.  It also tells you if a package is to be delivered.  I really like the service as will know whether there is anything in my mailbox that is worth braving the heat to get in the late afternoon when our mail usually arrives.

Janet, you probably won't see this today but want to wish you and Darrel a fine vacation.  Glad to see Darrel is taking the wheelchair.

Janet

I'm popping in to tell you all farewell for a few days!  We're packed, loaded and ready to go, have a house guest who is still talking........ ;)

We are to get back home on the 13th, so take care of the store while we're away!  :)

We got a nice little 3/10" rain last night.  So lovely, after 100* plus heat yesterday!

Time to run--want all the time we can have with our Abby this morning!

Today was the funeral for John McCain and it was so beautiful and interesting.  I could iron and wash clothes while watching so that worked out well. Our National Cathedral is stunning architecture.

We had a long period of lightning last night without any rain.

Janet:  Could your cell phone need a new battery?  Two hours charge is not enough.

As you know one of my son's (Roger) has been fighting ncancer for the last 5 years. It is a kidney cancer that was removed many years ago that metastasized,  to be 10 tumors on his pancreas, 2 in a lung and 2 on his liver, it might me more by now but that was the last count I got. He has been in  and out of the hospital numerous times and on 3 different kinds of oral chemo. the one now is the last. I spoke to his wife yesterday, he was in the hospital last week but wanted to go home because another son is flying out again to be with him. He now has a drain tube in his belly draining the bile  into a bag that he has to wear. My DIL was in  tears as she told me these things. He is 58 yrs old now  Nov. 26 with be his 59th BD if he makes it that long. I am preparing myself for the flight home  to see him off to be with the Lord. He will be gone by the time I get there because I don't want to see him now, I want to remember him as the tall, robust man he was. I will be taking my dog with me for comfort as Kewith won't be going and neither will Gi;bert.  Gilbert has patients to  take care of, he delivers and sets up their oxygen concentrations. The 4 older kidhave a different father than he does and have not treated him well in the past.

His twin, my daughter, will probably not even be cord\ial to me she hs not polkem yo m,e inn years. and told my grand children to have nothing to do with me,she told them she doesn't need a mother. I have forgiven her but pry that she will  do the same. She calls herself a Christian but doesn't behave like one. that is her choice of how she lives her life.

Hi Everyone. We are headed for a high today of 92 degrees with a 20% chance of rain though the afternoon.  I watched some football yesterday afternoon and again last evening.  In between we did go to Pizza Hut for a delicious pizza and got to spend a little more time with our son than normal as they were not very busy.

I got up about 1:30 for the bathroom and then couldn't go to sleep so about 2:15 I got up for an hour and read the postings since yesterday in these discussions as well as my email and finally worked a jigsaw puzzle.  I then went back to bed and got a little more sleep.  It was late when Pat came to bed.  We had enjoyed a cola with caffeine in it with the pizza and I am sure that was the reason Pat stayed up so late.  I just couldn't turn my mind off and don't think it was the caffeine as that usually doesn't bother me.

I am ready for Sunday School and Church this morning and don't know yet whether Pat will feel up to going to Church or not.  I have a coupon for a free medium sub at Firehouse with the purchase of medium sub, chips and a drink so that will be our lunch for today and I will stop there on my way home.  I plan on watching the end of the golf match late this afternoon.  We finally got our new Medicare cards in the mail yesterday that have been issued throughout this year.

I guess Janet and Darrel are on their trip now and I hope it is a wonderful experience for them both and that Darrel is feeling up to it.

Carol, I watched some of the John McCain funeral.  I feel for the family having to go through such a long ordeal over the several days.  I never visited the National Cathedral in the 7 years we lived in the DC area or on any business trips there at other times.

Marilyn, thanks for sharing the further information about Roger.  From your Facebook posting I thought maybe you were headed to California within the next few days.  Sometimes sad occasions bring people together and I hope that your daughter will let the past go and reconcile with you.  I will be praying for Roger and his family (that includes you in the weeks and months ahead).  I hope Roger isn't having a lot of pain but would certainly be understandable if he does.

Carol

Marilyn:  May you have a peaceful journey to your family.

This week, I transferred our membership to a church nearby  - where we have been attending for quite some time..  It is the right thing to do and although we are away for months it is closer to where two of our children live.  The two pastors speak well and Don can understand them so that is a huge thing - as his hearing the sermon is critical to where we attend.  Nice and friendly people too.

I am packing a lot of stuff including Christmas things for a consignment shop and if they do not want it, it will all be donated.   It is not coming in the house again.

Larry:  You will be ten degrees higher than us - still, we are too warm.  There are 3 small fires in Rocky Mountain Park - but I did see there was snow on Pike's Peak.  Aspen trees are turning gold.

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone. The holiday here looks like it will be a duplicate of the last several days and thus be hot and probably no rain.  I had a very good nights sleep last night and didn't awake until about 7 this morning.  After getting ready for the day I laid back down and read email, discussions and devotionals , as I often do so it was 8 before I left the bedroom.  I just plan on a slow and laid back day today.  We will be staying home all day.  It is unusual but the last round of the golf tournament is being play today and I plan on watching it later this afternoon.

We had a good Church service yesterday although our choir was away on an annual weekend retreat and the attendance was down in both our Sunday School class and the Church service as guess a lot of people were taking advantage of the long weekend to be away.  Pat did go to Church yesterday and then we stopped at Firehouse Subs for our lunch and I was able to use the coupon to get a free medium sized sub and also had a coupon for a free drink so it was a nicely priced lunch.

Glad you have found a Church where Don can hear the preacher.  We got rid of a lot of our Christmas decorations when we moved here and could get rid of more of them as Pat isn't doing much decorating anymore.  Our good housekeeper is kind in helping get what Pat wants to display from the attic.  Hopefully the fires will soon be a thing of the past in your State.

Hi Everyone. It will be another hot day here in South Carolina with a low probability of rain.  My main activity for today will be a visit to the dentists office for my 6 month cleaning.  Yesterday was a quiet day as expected but I did enjoy the golf yesterday afternoon.  Pat made a very good cooked cabbage and noddles recipe with chunks of Kielbasa, chopped up onions and peas with olive oil.  It made a big bowl full of food and we will have a couple more meals from it in the days to come.

Yesterday evening our granddaughter sent us an email wanting to know if we would be willing to give her an early Christmas present.  It is a small computer that is really a tablet with an detachable keyboard that Walmart had on sale for the holiday.  She is working to get her GED and the work is on the computer.  She has been using her dad's computer but apparently there are conflicts sometimes when she want to work and he needs his computer.

I see no one has posted since I posted yesterday thus no further comments today.
