DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

From Chris Saunders

Hebrews 12:1-2  (KJV)
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

You must have a reason for running, some run for exercise and it can become like a drug to them, they must have that adreniline rush going through their veins.
Some people seem to be always on the run, they have no peace, " the wicked run when no one is pursuing them."
But the Christian runs the race set before them, a different race, a moral race, a spiritual race, a Godly race, a race where the Starter is Christ and at the finishing line awaiting them is the same Christ.
This race is not run in our own strength..it could not be..it is run in the strength which God supplies by His Spirit.
Runners fix their eyes upon the finishing line, we fix our eyes upon Jesus, the One Who starts us off and also awaits us with a " Well done!"

Here is a scene from a Christian movie.... Enjoy it.

Victory in Jesus
(Click to hear music)

Words and Music by Eugene. M. Bartlett

I heard an old, old story, How a Saviour came from glory,
How He gave His life on Calvary To save a wretch like me;
I heard about His groaning, Of His precious blood's atoning,
Then I repented of my sins And won the victory.

Chorus:
O victory in Jesus, My Saviour, forever,
He sought me and bought me With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory, Beneath the cleansing flood.

I heard about His healing, Of His cleansing pow'r revealing,
How He made the lame to walk again And caused the blind to see;
And then I cried "Dear Jesus, Come and heal my broken spirit,"
And somehow Jesus came and bro't To me the victory.

Chorus:
O victory in Jesus, My Saviour, forever,
He sought me and bought me With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory, Beneath the cleansing flood.

I heard about a mansion He has built for me in glory,
And I heard about the streets of gold Beyond the crystal sea;
About the angels singing, And the old, redemption story,
And some sweet day I'll sing up there The song of victory.

Chorus:
O victory in Jesus, My Saviour, forever,
He sought me and bought me With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory, Beneath the cleansing flood.

Eugene Monroe Bartlett, Sr. is considered to have made a major impact on the development of Southern Gospel Music.

He was born on December 24, 1885 in Waynesville, Missouri.  At a young age he relocated to Sabastian County, Arkansas where he grew up.  He was educated as a music teacher at Hall-Moody Institute in Tennessee and William Jewell College in Missouri.

In 1917, he married Joan Tatum.  The couple would have two children together.

In 1918, he established Hartford Music Company, which became one of the first publishing companies for Southern Gospel music.  He served as company president from 1918 until 1935.  In additional to establishing the music company, he also established a shape note school, the Hartford Music Institute in 1921 and began publishing a monthly quartet magazine, The Herald of Song.

Over the chorus of his career, Bartlett wrote more than 800 songs. Some of his songs include ?Just a Little While,?

Eugene Monroe Bartlett

Everybody Will Be Happy Over There, You Can?t Keep a Good Man Down, and Take an Old Cold Tater and Wait.

In 1939, Bartlett had a stroke that left him partially paralyzed.  After the stroke he was left virtually bed ridden.  Although he missed traveling and performing, Bartlett continued to study his Bible during this difficult time.  Although he dealt with the physical strains of his limitations, he also looked towards the eternal victory he knew was approaching.

During this difficult time after his stroke, he wrote the words to Victory in Jesus.  The song first appeared in a songbook paperback Gospel Choruses.

Victory in Jesus was the final song Bartlett wrote.  The hymn also became his best known and most embraced song.  The song is an optimistic reminder of the hope of heaven.  In the second stanza, there are references to the healing ministry of Christ.

The song has grown in popularity over the years and is published in most church hymnals and often requested in sing-a-longs.

Bartlett died on January 25, 1941. He is buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Benton County, Arkansas.

In 1973, he was inducted into the Gospel Music Association?s Gospel Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee.

Hi Everyone.  It looks like today will be a carbon copy of the past several days with it being hot and dry.  My dental appointment yesterday went very well and no follow on dental work is needed, which is always what I want to hear from my dentist.  The hygienist told me of a fresh produce market near their office so I stopped in and got some beautiful South Carolina freestone peaches, two Heirloom tomatoes and a couple of ears of fresh sweet corn.  There prices were very high so it is not a store I would visit very often.

In a few minutes I am going to go to Costco to stock up the freezer and the pantry.  This evening we will be starting our Wednesday evening dinners at Church for the fall season.

Judy, thanks for getting us started with the new page for September.  That was a fine reading from Chris and the hymn is an old favorite of mine.  I had never heard the background of the composer.  I have seen a few songbooks with shaped notes but never tried to sing them.

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone.  It will be another day in the low 90's with no rain in the forecast.  We enjoyed a very tasty dinner at Church last evening and there was a big crowd as chicken wings seems to be a popular item for these dinners. We then enjoyed a pleasant evening with Scott.  I have only two things on my schedule today, other than a few chores here at the house.  I will be picking up my friend and we will go to coffee.  On the way home I will stop at Walmart to pick up three prescriptions for Pat and a few other items. The rest of the day should be pretty quiet and restful.

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone. It is going to be another hot, 94 degree, afternoon with only a 10% chance of rain.  I plan on staying home today unless Pat wants to go out and eat as we often do the day the housekeeper is here and this is that day.  I managed to stay pretty busy all day yesterday and it has been a busy morning but I told Pat not to expect much more work from me today.  I just prepared her breakfast and had already folded a load of clothes.  I had purchased a bottle of baby shampoo to try on my hair as a friend of mine said he used it and it was gentle.  However, as hard as I tried I couldn't get the thing opened.  Fortuantely, Pat had shampoo in the shower that I was able to use to wash out the medicated shampoo I had used and let set for about 20 minutes or so per instructions.

Does anyone else find packaging of things difficult to open.  I had to put up a 12 box pack of tissues and the wrapping was so tight and tough that I had a hard time opening it and that seems to be the rule anymore.

...I thought I would pop in to post and keep you company for a while...
Not much to say really but I did manage to go to my next County 62 mile round trip MS Society evening meet-up this week...We had our Harvest Supper...but unfortunately I did not win any raffle prize this time...R takes me then he trundles off to a near restaurant for a meal by himself, picks me up one & a half to two hours later.....

Larry when I find things hard to open I use a knife or a pair if scissors. that generally will cut that tight plastic so I can get to the item I bought.  The reason for the packaging is t dissuade shoplifters.  Not sure it does the job though....If someone is going to steal they will...

We are at last getting better weather.  The humidity is gone and the temperatures are mid 70"s.  The humidity was a killer this summer.

Heather's family is still struggling with the death of a daughter/sister. so many are saying they should be over it by now.  June 30th is not that far  past.  some people can be so insensitive.

Well that is all for now

Carol

We are joining another church next week and they have a dinner set up with members - we are told not to bring anything.  Another dinner coming is the annual potluck for everyone in our area of 100 homes.  Also, our oldest son and wife are coming for a week - bringing their little dog as well.  He has medical appointments and she will be working too - she has to fly someplace during the week.  They are driving from Montana and this is our only chance to see them until Christmas.

Jackie:  That is nice you can get to your meeting and for your hubby to go out for dinner.  I often go to the VA - Veteran's Administration - hospital while Don has his appointments and sometimes wait there and other times go to the cafeteria and read a book.

A quilt is waiting for me in the basement - it is at the "I don't know what to do next stage".  It is the last queen sized quilt I will ever attempt.   ;)

Larry:  I was told to use baby shampoo when allergies were given me trouble.  No perfume in it.  We keep a box cutter handy for opening packages and a sharp letter opener works too.

We drove to the foothills yesterday morning and saw a little bit of the yellow leaves.  They have a water shortage in that area and posted signs - not good news.  There is still smoke in the area carried all the way from California.  Not that people would notice, unless they really knew what the front range is supposed to look like in normal times.  Some snow at 10000 ft.  We are almost 6,000 here and Don can tell the difference when he goes to a lower altitude.  It doesn't seem to bother me, thankfully.

Carol

Jackie:  I was interrupted in sending a reply to your email.  I understand the situation - may you find the comfort you need.  Blessings to you.

Marilyn

Well I didn't go to Ca. My plans were all made and cancelled the same day. My daughter decided to be the  one in control and stated that I was not to be there before or after his death., He is still living although  under the influence of heavy pain meds. He is on a Diladid drip and asleep all the time. Ron spent last night  with him and has gone now to get some sleep. He has kept me up to date every few hours all week. Next time he is alone in  the room with Roger he will call me, put the phone on speaker and next to Roger's ear so I can say a few words to him without the rest of the family knowing or interferring.I just want to tell him I love him and reassure him taht it is OK to leave if he is ready to go.

I am hoping maybe I can go for the funderal if I can find someone to make sure that Keith gets meals. I don't trust him to try to cook. He doesn't remember  how anyway. I wouldn't want him to get burned on the glass cook top or start a fire in  the Microwave. I will just have to wait and see.

Gilbert gave me some great advice when he said "don't let them see you sweat" "don't sweat the small stuff"  Being a Hospice volunteer I am aware that there is a great group of Greif counselors available if I need them.

Hi Everyone.  Today is suppose to be another hot and mostly sunny one.  I guess it will be a good day for the football games around here, better than freezing cold.  We did stay home all day yesterday but this morning I plan on attending a meeting and then will stop at Aldi's for a few vegetables and some breakfast cranberry drink that I like to have a little glass of each morning.  I plan on watching football today as this is the afternoon for the Georgia/South Carolina game and several other games to watch as well.

Yesterday evening Pat made meatballs and spaghetti in the Instant Pot.  She used some four cheese sauce and precooked meat balls that we had in the freezer and it made a delicious meal.  She added about a half cup of grated Parmesan cheese after it was cooked.  That with some garlic butter toast made a great meal.  There was enough left over for a second meal and the next time we will add a salad but couldn't do that last evening as had no salad vegetables on hand.

I am sure glad to see more posts than my own here as it was really getting lonely in this discussion.  :)

Jackie, glad you got to attend your MS Society evening even if you didn't win a door prize.  A Harvest Supper sounds good.

Judy, I also use a box opener or have a little knife on my keychain that I can use. However, some of the plastic wrap is so tough that it fights the knife or is hard to pull off with your hands after there is an opening.  As I often say this is not lifes biggest problem.  Glad you are enjoying some nice weather.  Did you have a good garden this summer?  I have never understand why other people seem to be able to determine when it is the proper time for us to do anything, including how we handle grief.  I hope John will pop in one of these days and give us an update.  Is he driving the school bus again this year?

Carol, how nice that you will be guests for the members dinner.  That must be a big potluck in your neighborhood.  Do most of the neighbors participate.  Do you have a club house where you can gather for the event?  Nice you can enjoy a week with your oldest son and wife before you go back to Arizona.  Does the VA have a good cafeteria.  Nice that you have a place to go and wait as I expect the waiting rooms are pretty busy and that way you are not exposed to as much.  I didn't know quilts had a "I don't know what to do next stage".  I will have to ask Pat to explain that to me.  I think maybe the expensive shampoo is helping.  I tried to open the bottle of baby shampoo to use yesterday and couldn't get the cap open.  Finally last evening, with good light in the bathroom and using a nail file, I was finally able to pop it off.  Water shortages are certainly a matter of concern.

Marilyn, sorry that you had to cancel your plans for your trip to see Roger.  Perhaps the phone is a better idea since perhaps he will hear your voice even if he is unable to speak. I now that Keith is of major concern to you and hope you can work something out.  I hope you will seek grief counseling.  Our Church has a grief counseling small group and perhaps you could find something similar at a Church near you.

Marilyn

Roger is walking with Jesus in his new body. My son is gone. His spirit left his earthly body at 10:30 last night. No service is planned he will be cremated.

Marilyn:  Sorry for your loss - hopefully you have a close friend to confide in through these trials.

Larry:  I cannot decide what to do on the quilt - I know it has to be finished.  The pot luck is for new members and a tradition for parishioners to meet and greet.  There is no meeting place in this Retreat group - so, for a small fee we can use another building in the area.  All of our meetings are at restaurants or in homes.

We just returned from a late breakfast at a Cajun restaurant - we treated a DIL to her birthday meal.  Yummy, I had Shrimp and Grits.  It was so good.  Our youngest son wants to drive us to Arizona in a couple of weeks.  He has so much vacation time and his wife is teaching so she is tied to the job.

It smells so nice in the house with a crock pot full of diced apples, cinnamon seasoning.

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone.  It is another bright and sunny Sunday morning here in South Carolina.  with a predicted high of 92 degrees and a 20% chance of some showers.  Our State is in a state of emergency in preparation of the anticipated Hurricane bearing down on the Carolina's later this week.  Yesterday was a pleasant day and it seems I managed to keep busy all day.  I will go to Sunday School and then plan on coming home and getting Pat so we can go back to Church.  Then we plan on going to Zaxby's for a nice salad with with fried chicken on it for Pat and grilled chicken for me.  It comes with a piece of Texas toast and makes a very filling and good meal.  I plan on watching some football this afternoon and having a restful Sunday afternoon.

Marilyn, even when we know it is coming it is heart breaking to lose our child.  I certainly send condolences from Pat and I.

Jackie, that is a very nice condolence card you posted for Marilyn.

Carol, that is a nice tradition for your new Church and a good time for you to meet and to be meet by the current members in attendance.  It would be worth a small fee to use a building for your community potluck so it will be out of the weather and with plenty of places to sit down.  Great that you son wants to drive you to Arizona soon.  Nothing like smelling apples and cinnamon cooking.

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone.  It is a beautiful, clear and soon to be another very warm day.  We do have a higher percentage chance of some showers this afternoon.  They were in our area yesterday afternoon but missed us completely.  South Carolina has declared a State of Emergency in preparation for the oncoming Hurricane.  Exactly where it will hit is still uncertain but it sounds like the coastal areas will certainly be impacted.  At this point we are not expecting any impact from it in our area here in the West of the State.

We enjoyed a nice hot day here yesterday (we have had 15 days in a row with it getting to 94 degrees or above).  Pat did go to Church with me and afterwards we stopped at Zaxby's and had a good lunch.  We tried something new, which was a sandwich with three large chicken tenders with a hot sauce and a creamy sauce on them.  Pat had French fries with hers and I had coleslaw.  It was a quiet afternoon of resting, then watching football and finally reading for a couple of hours.  My friend loaned he a fairly new John Grisham book called "The Testament", which is a real page-turner and I am more than half way through it and might finish it up today.  He is such a good story teller.  I sort of hate to see it end.  I also put out a container of Lobster Bisque for our evening meal but need to grind up some cheddar cheese later this morning and a couple of other tasks.  Yesterday morning AT&T put out door hangers saying they would be working in our neighborhood digging and upgrading facilities and installing something called "gigapower".

Carol

Larry:  Wow - that sounds powerful - gigapower.  -

So much on this weeks agenda - I have notes all over the fridge.  I was awake at 5:30 this morning and went downstairs to do the treadmill and bike.  It was even too early for my radio host show.  It was even still dark outside and that was a surprise.

Yesterday, I spent two hours chatting with a neighbor (she lost her husband & our friend last winter).  She is thinking of starting a small bible study.  She would be perfect for the task - I urged her to split the studies with the others (we are gone most of the winter so cannot help).  I went to the early service yesterday - 7;30 AM and that is perfect for me - the guest spoke on "The Case for Miracles".  I have the book on order through the library download.  It was fascinating to hear the author on the screen - can't wait to read the book.  He used to be a member here but moved to Houston.

An earache has been bothering me so far just dealing with it with Amoxicillin and pain pills.  High in the 90's today - the good news is the sky to the west looks clearer.  My aim this week is to get everything ready for son & wife - and I am buying Lysol sprays for everything too - not to have any germs in the house.  Quilters are coming Tuesday night and Wednesday night we go to a church meal & Saturday for community potluck. A person could get fat!

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone.  What an evening we had last night.  There was a severe electrical storm and we had a little over two inches of rain and I don't think this had anything to do with the approaching Hurricane.  This morning is bright and sunny and we should get to 92 degrees this afternoon with the chance of more rain.

Pat wants to make a visit to our local Dollar Tree store this morning and perhaps we will eat our main meal out at noontime or mid-afternoon. Ruby Tuesday's is once again offering their great salad bar for $5 today, which is half its normal price.  A friend will be here to work with me for an hour this morning and the rest of my day is free.  I have only about 100 pages of the John Grisham book I am reading and another couple of hours to finish the audio book I am listening to, which has also been good.

Carol, the new cabling does sound powerful but I expect it will also carry a powerful monthly price to use.  However, they will be competing with Comcast so that can't hurt anything.  It would be nice if your neighbor could start a small Bible study in her home.  Sorry to hear of your earache.  I had so many of those as a child but haven't been bothered with them as an adult that I can recall and hope to keep it that way.  You sure have a busy week planned.

Last evening for dinner we had the lobster bisque I had gotten from Costco along with a toasted cheese sandwich.  It was a good and very filling dinner.

The schools in our county and others around us have been closed starting today so they can be prepared to use as shelters for the   people who have been ordered by the Governor to evacuate the South Carolina coastal areas starting at noon today.  More than a million people have been ordered to evacuate in South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.

Carol

Baking two batches of brownies for tonight and the freezer.  Tea is brewing on the patio in sunshine.  Also, watching or listening to the tributes on 911.  Still a very sad story.

Larry:  It is hard to imagine a million people being moved away from the oncoming storm.  I hope you don't have heavy rains from the hurricane.

We are beginning a home bible study and finished day 2 this morning - it is set up for one year.  We read the 3 different designated sites and make notes or interpret what it means - our own thoughts.  It has been a long time since I did a similar study.

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone. We are in for another day with a heat index of 100 degrees or more with a good chance of late afternoon rain.  People are still evacuating from the coastal areas of South Carolina.  It appears we could be in for quite a bit of rain depending on how far North the Hurricane goes.  Just a lot of uncertainty.  Our school were reopened today as they decided they probably would not be needed as shelters.

Pat is planning on attending her Gifts group at the Church this morning so I will take her and go down to coffee while she is there.  This evening we will be going to our Wednesday night dinner at the Church and then spend some time with our son.  Yesterday we did go to the Dollar Tree store for a few minutes and then went to Ruby Tuesday's for our main meal of the day.  Yesterday evening I finished reading the John Grisham book and will return it to the man who loaned it to me either today or tomorrow.

Carol, there was a lot of news coverage and other tributes in recognition of 9/11 as there should be each year.  It is hard to believe that it occurred 17 years ago as the memory of that day is still very clear in my mind.  Those brownies sound good.  Right now I have no idea of how much rain we may get and it could either be quite a bit or maybe an inch or so.  Time will tell.  Your home Bible study sounds good and I hope it is very successful.

Carol

I was able to attend the regular women's bible study this morning.  This was the first meeting for the fall sessions.  Really a low attendance but it still is a large group.  Someone made scones and that was a treat.  The missionary (our table leader) says a group is meeting in an Asian country - not the easiest place for them.

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone.  The sun is out here this morning and no wind.  It is once again to get up above 90 degrees this afternoon.  The only thing on my schedule is to pick up my friend and go to coffee for an hour.  So it should be a pretty quiet and restful day.  We are still some time away from the winds and rain from the Hurricane.  I see this morning that it has weakened but it looks pretty certain we will be getting some winds and probably a lot of rain.  I will get my emergency lights and the emergency radio out so they will be available if needed.  The danger here is from trees being uprooted with the very wet ground and falling on the power lines.  I am sure that flooding throughout South Carolina is going to be a big problem and some places are still trying to recover from the last severe flooding that occurred here a couple of years ago. We are just in a wait and see position and know we are very fortunate.  I see that by tomorrow night we can expect the edge of the wind and rain to be in our area.

Carol, it sounds like you had a nice group and a good Bible Study yesterday.  It is nice that you have a missionary as your group leader.

Carol

Wishing all in the storms path a safe and secure time.

Larry:  Those storms always head inland a lot farther than people anticipate.  Praying the storm weakens quickly.

We had a long meeting at our church last night - this was for membership. About a dozen a few more made their speeches on what the church offers and frankly, neither Don or I could hear some of speakers.  It was a large room - some spoke in their normal and quiet voices and it was impossible.  Very nice people - I see some places we can volunteer and support.  I know it sounds confusing but we are joining a much smaller church because Don can understand and hear the speakers.

Coffee is ready, I finished the tread mill exercise (that is to keep my knees working).  It is hot for a few more days then a bit more normal  that will be such a relief.  My thoughts are with everyone in the east.

Janet

Hello, everyone!  We arrived home this afternoon, around two.  Had a nice but quick lunch with daughter Diane in Hugoton, then went to their new grocery store for supplies, as we had eaten or used all the food from the fridge that was spoilable, before we left.

We had a very enjoyable trip.  The weather in Alaska was perfect!  Couldn't have asked for better!  And Darrel felt pretty good most of the time.  He complained less than he had been doing at home, so I think it was good to get his mind off all his "ouchies".   ;)  He passed out a couple of times, once, while sitting on the side of the bed during the night, and hit the floor like a ton of bricks.  Sure got my attention!  The other time he was sitting in the wheelchair, so he didn't fall, and was only out for a few seconds.  We did use the chair to go into Skagway and all around that very small town.
He still doesn't feel up to walking very far at all. We shipped the chair with our bags from Vancouver, and it made it to Houston, but they didn't get it on the little plane to Amarillo, so a guy had to drive it all the way to our house!  200 miles!  He got here with it mid-afternoon.

I had very little cell phone coverage, so only posted a few pics on FB.  Will probably post more in the coming days.

Carol, You're probably right about my phone needing a battery, but we are 300 miles from an Apple store!

I have read all the posts, and will try to comment more tomorrow.  I'm bushed, and heading to bed now.  Darrel has been in bed for about two hours already!

Hi Everyone.  The sun is shining here this morning.  Our local forecast is now that we will probably get 1-2 inches of rain and winds around 35 mph.  We probably will not have rain start until late tonight or tomorrow with the highest chance of Sunday.  Our danger is from floods as the water floods the rivers and heads this way.  I had a medical appointment this morning to have my pacemaker checked but they called yesterday and said the tech, who lives in Columbia, is not coming over here today so I will reschedule it.  That is no hurry as it was just routine.  I plan on staying home today and taking it easy and think most of the chores I needed to do this morning have been accomplished.

Carol, the Hurricane has just not actually hit the coast and they are already having to go in and rescue people that refused to leave their homes.  They said this morning that the rains will reach New York City before it is over and drop a lot of rain over many States.  Too bad you couldn't hear the speakers telling about your new Church.  Some voices carry and some don't.  Just in the last couple of years have we had a microphone for our Sunday School class and it was needed because many of the folks are hard of hearing.  Unfortunately several of the folks don't want to use the microphone.

Janet, glad to see you and Darrel safely home and to read that Darrel tolerated the trip well.  Glad you had perfect weather for your trip.  It sounds like you needed the wheelchair and glad you took it with you.  I look forward to seeing your photos.  I read yesterday that even taking your phone to the Apple store for the battery replacement they may have to keep it for two or three days.  That is not a viable alternative for me as would feel very uncomfortable without it.  I had decided to buy one of the new iWatches that were announced this week but checked with Consumer Cellular and they indicated their service did not support the Watch.  This latest version takes EKGs and has a feature that if you fall and don't immediately get up it will call an emergency number.  I am going to do a little more checking before I give up.

Carol

Janet:  So glad that you and Darrel had a chance to see that amazing scenery from the cruise.  It must have been so difficult when Darrel had two falls.  Cheers for the two of you going and taking the trip with faith!!!

Here, I am looking at anti-inflammatory vegan recipes as son & wife arrive and he has medical tests next week.

Otherwise, I keep in touch with several cousins and their issues, I am trying to finish a quilt (not enough time) and keep up this house (always something needed).  Needing to call several friends and relatives just to see how everyone is faring.

Hello Larry and Carol---and anyone else who pops in later!

I still have a long way to go in getting all the junk emails deleted.  Wish the computer knew which ones to dump.  ;)  Well, not really.  Big Brother is already in too much of our business.

Larry, I pray your area doesn't get too much water, and not any of those high winds.  I cannot imagine.  We sometimes get winds of 80 MPH here, but there isn't the tons of water with it.

I conquered the mountain!  The laundry mountain, that is.  And picked up a big tub of mail from the Post Office, got that sorted and processed.  Got my hair cut and styled this morning and some pants mailed back to Duluth that didn't fit.  I want to get as caught up as possible, so I can work on the book. There is a deadline looming if I want it published before Christmas.  Don't know if I can possibly make it, if not, will get done when I can.

John is here.  He watered plants and took care of our cat again.  He likes doing that for us, and we sure appreciate it.

I'm going to post a few photos on FB now.  See you later!

Welcome home Janet, Not much new here. Roger was interred today, Ron  texted me a photo I can't get it to post, I will have to resize it and post later.

Freckles and I are going to walk in  the Fun Fes parade in Coos Bay tomorrow. It is a fun dress up thing so I will wear my Dog paw tights, then put Freckles tutu  around my neck. She has a neck piece too.

Hi Everyone.  We have a cloudy morning and rain headed our way this afternoon, evening and tomorrow but no significant amounts and winds up to 30 MPH with a some stronger gusts.  They are having a street fair in downtown Augusta today that started yesterday afternoon.

On Thursday I did get my first of two flu shots and shingles shots.  I have to wait from two to 6 months for the second shots of each.  I will get my pneumonia shot a little later.  I didn't feel well yesterday but I did keep an appointment at Best Buy and got my iPhone battery replaced.  I also learned that I would be able to use the new iWatch by using the blue tooth function of my phone and the watch so that is back on the table.  After lunch yesterday Scott called me and said the radiator had blown on my Hyundai Accent so it went back to the garage but should be done this morning.  There is one more major repair to be done on it to replace the timing belt but asked him to wait until next month as the radiator replacement is rather expensive.  I did go to bed right after dinner last evening around 6:30 as my heart had been letting me know it was there all day and I was exhausted and in discomfort.   I did have a good nights sleep but still am feeling a bit down this morning so will skip my Saturday meeting and just plan on staying home today.  I will rest more and watch some football.  I hope to be feeling up to attending Church tomorrow.

Carol, I hope you have found some good anti-inflammatory vegan recipes.  Does your son cook?  Maybe your son will bring some of he recipes he is able to eat with him.  I don't do a good job of keeping in touch with relatives.  I try to keep the kitchen cleaned up and Pat sees that the bathroom is clean and we do the laundry.  Other than that we don't do much housework.

Janet, I am amazed that with the junk mail and ads I get each week I have to empty my desk waste basket twice a week and the kitchen trash container more often.  I am just now seeing some wind gusts developing as I look out my office window.  We are not going to get much rain but the main concern will be flooding from the many rivers.  I read yesterday that our county, which is quite large, has many dams and having a dam break is a concern.  Fortunately it doesn't happen too often.  It sounds like you had a busy day yesterday.  What do you have left to do on your book?  I am sure helping you gives John a sense of being needed and we all need that I believe.  It is nice you have someone dependable close by.

Marilyn, was Roger interred in a cemetery?  I hope you and Freckles have get fun in your Fun Fes parade today.  Is Keith going with you to enjoy the parade?

Janet

Larry, I came in mainly to check on you, as we were watching the news coverage of the storm.  Sad what all that water and wind does to trees and buildings!  Devastation over such a large area!  I'm glad you and Pat are safe and hope you will not be affected by any flooding that occurs.

Thanks, Marilyn!  It's always good to get home again.  I'm sorry for your loss, and for the way your daughter decided to act.  I do not understand things like that, but they do happen in a lot of families.  Glad you have a fun event with Freckles to cheer you up!  She is such a blessing to you, isn't she?  Do you still have another dog besides her?

Larry, I have to choose the "trim size" for the book, send the finished (I hope) manuscript for final editing, choose the pictures I want put in it, and anything else they come up with that I don't know about.  Working with this company is so much different from the company that published my first book.  Yes, the flood of junk mail is really a pain.  But we don't get nearly the volume we did when we were both in business, as lots of that has finally dropped off.  We had a tub full of mail when we picked it up; I put the empty tub beside the table as we sorted and all the junk went back into it, and it was about a third full when I took it to the dumpster to empty it before returning the tub to the Post Office.  I like to get that done ASAP when we get home.  I hope you start feeling a lot better today.  We are to get Hepatitis C and Typhoid shots before we go to Morocco.   :P

I think I will run out to the Farmers Market and see what's happening today!

Marilyn:  I hope you can make a private trip to the grave site some time.

Janet:  isn't it hard to come home and there is ton of duties that cannot be ignored?  Take care of yourself too.

Don gave me (us) a Roomba robot floor cleaner.  Today, I could not find the little dickens - searched over and over.  Finally, we found it hiding in a closet with the door closed.  How on earth could it close a door?  Another mystery to ponder.

So far, everything is working well with my long daily bible study.  I know when we travel that there won't be time but it doesn't "have" to be read in one year.  It has been many years since I read the entire bible.

Larry:  Our DIL will be doing all the cooking at their house - so nice to freeze portions.  I have frozen some veggie soups here and have another thing in mind too.

I called an old friend from Fort Collins who now lives next to her daughter north of Raleigh, North Carolina.  Everyone is safe - all the horses are fine too.  Daughter is a veterinarian -I remember her getting her DR. credentials.  They had rain but not much in wind.  It sure looked different on the t.v. maps.

Marilyn

I wasn't told where  Roger was interred,  maybe I can find out later.  No I don't have another dog just freckles. both Happy and Bebe passed away a few years ago.
The parade was fun. I found a way to keep Freckles little hat on by  putting her collar through the ear l.oops since the hat was too big for her in  the first place.

Hi Everyone. Our area seems to have avoided any direct impacts from the Hurricane.  We had generally light rain starting yesterday afternoon but no big wind gusts that I heard.  Today we may get some more rain but they are saying less than an inch with some wind gusts.  However, it is now moving Northward away from us.  So did feel somewhat better yesterday and, as of now, I do plan on going to Sunday School and Church.  Nothing else on the agenda for today.  I did stay home all day yesterday and rested a lot.

Janet, I haven't heard of any flooding in our area but that will come later as the rivers send a lot of water downstream. This has been some storm for the Carolina's.   Thanks for the info on what is left to do on your book.  The mail was something I always looked at and sorted as soon as we got home from a trip.

Carol, I hope you will really like the Roomba.  Sweeping is one of the household tasks that I very difficult and tiring.  I know a couple of people who have used them and really like them.  You must have really given it an exercise if it had to go into the closet and rest.  I thought it was suppose to return to its base when finished.  Like you it has been a number of years since I have read the entire Bible.  I used the Bible in a Year edition twice.  However, I did read and listen to the New Testament not long ago.  Are you saying you won't now have to do the special cooking for your son? Sure glad your friend and daughter in Raleigh are OK.

Marilyn, glad you enjoyed the parade and it sounds like Freckles did also.

Janet

I really made a big mistake yesterday, and boy! did I pay for it! I had picked the produce from the garden, had tomatoes and peppers.  Not many peppers, just a big handful, so I decided to cut them up and put them in the freezer.  I didn't think they were very hot, I didn't have any disposable gloves, so I just did them.  Well, it wasn't very long until I had a bad case of  "hot pepper hands!"  Yes, that's what they call it, and let me tell you, if you haven't experienced it, don't!  It's awful!  I tried scrubbing my hands good, no help.  Put vinegar on them, no help.  Tried cooling lotion, nope!  After suffering with them until 11:30, Darrel said, "Why don't you look on the internet and see what they recommend."  I did, and there are many things--milk, yogurt, (I had neither) rubbing them with oil (nope) making a paste of baking soda and water, applying it, letting it dry, etc. (I wanted quicker relief!)  Finally I read - use bleach & water 1 to 5, soak hands a while, rinse in cool water.  That did it!!  What a relief!
After the two Tylenol kicked in and I kept my hands outside the covers for another hour, I finally got to sleep.  Whew!  I will sure get some gloves before I mess with peppers again!

Larry, glad to read your day of rest has you feeling better again.  Will Pat be going to church with you today?

Today we will be worshipping in the slightly remodeled Fellowship Hall, as they have begun the much needed update and remodel of the sanctuary. They met there last Sunday, but we were in Alaska.  ;)  Some of the "older" members still aren't happy about things being changed, but it will be a much more usable and beautiful space when it's done.

Almost time to go!  Will be good to be in church again.

Blessings to each of you!

We went to the Saturday 5 PM service which stays around 1 hour in length.  Is is much quieter and Don can understand the speaker with their wonderful hearing aids.  It looks like that fits best for us and sometimes I also go to an early service at another huge church - a chapel service at 7:30 AM>

Larry:  This bible study show 3 separate books of the bible with about 4 chapters daily.  We write what we take from the lesson.  It takes about a half an hour every day so that is good it isn't too long and people drop out.  Reading in Genesis, John and Psalms now.  I am a vacuum cleaner - it is one thing I have done almost every day.  We sold a house once and the carpet was 7 or 8 years old and everyone thought it was new - so there is a reason to keep on vacuuming.

Janet:  You made me think of that song..."I'm a Pepper"... silly song.  So sorry, I am glad you found a cure.  Both Don and I had a terrible night after touching some cacti a few years ago.  We could not even see the needles - no sleep on that night.  Janet - a lesson learned!   Take care.

Marilyn:  I bet the children get a kick out of seeing your doggie with a hat.

A grandson is coming for a visit this afternoon - so Don is having  a short nap first.

We all worship differently and  - but we all worship the same one.

Marilyn

Hi everyone, My son Ron sent me some pictures of Roger's urn with some poitis around it and a big wreath of flowers. When I ask where he is locate he said he didn't know  not one had told him either. Maybe iu'all just some some flowrs to Sheila his wife.

Today is eldest grandson Curtis' 35th birthday--how time flies!  We went to Diane's (his mom's) for dinner this evening.  Good to see him, Toni, and the three little girls who are growing up way too fast!

Hi Everyone.  The sky is clear and the sun is shiny brightly on the way to a 90 degree afternoon.  We had light rain but no wind problems yesterday afternoon and evening.  I am watching the Weather Channel and now they are having tornados and the flooding is terrible with the rainfall totals exceeding all recorded rainfall of the past.

I did make it to Sunday School and Church and then picked up something for our main meal of the day.  I wasn't very peppy yesterday and went to bed around 7:30 last evening as was aching and not enjoying being in my easy chair.  I have nothing on the schedule for today so will just take it easy and rest. I can find something to keep me as busy as I want to be.

Janet, I can't imagine what you experienced and glad you finally found something to stop the pain.  Those must be some very hot peppers you have grown.  I have never heard of this before.  Pat did not go to Church yesterday.  We are concerned about the possibility of her falling when the pavement is wet.  Change is always difficult, especially for those who have grown very use to the way things have been for a long time.  I expect folks will soon adjust.  I hadn't really looked forward to the blended services our Church had for the month of July but found I really liked them and hope it will be come the normal practice for July each month as it brought all of our Church services together into a blended for one service.  I hope you enjoyed your Church service yesterday.

Carol, sure glad you now have a Church service that you both can understand the speaker.  We have several people in our Church who use the hearing aids that are provided.  I can't image vacuuming the carpets daily.  We had an upgraded, rather than builder's grade, carpet put in our last home before we moved here and the carpet wore well for the 20 years we lived there.  We only have carpets in our guest bedroom and Pat's sewing room upstairs.  I can't imagine these will need to be changed for many years, certainly not while we live in this home, as they get very little use.  The housekeeper does vacuum the guest bedroom every time but doesn't go upstairs very often.

Marilyn, glad that Ron sent you some pictures of the urn.

Carol

In two more days, weather is predicted to at least be under 90 degrees.  They have been promising for such a long time.  Our nights and early mornings are cool so that helps but this is way too hot.  Fire danger is at the highest level.  It is an unusual year for everyone.

I am watching the little dog and she is so sweet.  We miss having a dog - there is no fence around our house so it plus the stairs to go to the back yard area prohibit even thinking of taking on an animal.

Janet:  Sorry for your episode with your hands.  The only thing I can equate with your issue is when both Don and I dug out some little cactus last year.  We were told that it did not have stickers.  We had a miserable night but it finally went away.

Larry:  Take it easy.

Marilyn--LOL!  :D  I never would have guessed that!

Larry, may you feel better again tomorrow!

Carol, I have heard of those mean cacti with the almost invisible stickers.
How did you deal with the pain?

I have spent the day rereading Walking Beth Home, found a few more little typos, changed a word here and there for one I felt worked better, added a few sentences.....I think it's pretty good!  My friend the priest said she loved it!  Can't wait to see her on Wednesday and get her edit--can then see how many things she found that I didn't!  :D

Darrel has found my state and federal numbers for my business, so I can fill out new papers.  I want to restart my framing business, since the gal downtown is out of sight.  I guess she moved her stuff home and hasn't set it up again so isn't doing any framing again yet.  And I'm getting some requests now.

Off to work on those papers!

Hi Everyone.  We are to have a sunny day with a high of 93 degrees.  We did get some rain late last night.  I didn't sleep well at last as woke up at 1:30 and never could go back to sleep.  I got up around 2:30 for a couple of hours and then laid back down but couldn't fall asleep.  There are only two things on the schedule for today.  I do have someone coming to the house at 10 this morning to work with me for an hour.  Then Pat and I plan on going to Ruby Tuesday's for our main meal today as it is National Cheeseburger Day and so today and tomorrow they are offering a free cheeseburger when a regular entree is ordered.  I think the rest of the day will be free so will be able to get some rest this afternoon and hopefully sleep tonight.  Nothing to write about in terms of things done yesterday.  It was just a quiet day although I did finish listening to another John Grisham novel and started another one that I hope is as good.

Carol, sure hope Colorado doesn't have any new fires because of the hot weather.  Glad you are enjoying the little dog.  Did your son and his wife arrive as planned?

Marilyn, thanks for the clarification.

Janet, I had a pretty good day yesterday and looking forward to the same today.  Glad Darrel found the papers you needed so you can start up your business again.

Good Morning everyone and welcome to Rebot.

Today Is one of the days that I teach Tai Chi. Several peole in my class have been too busy to show up for 1 hour of Tai Chi, so one lady is getting some one on one instruction. I have to have at least 6 people in my class in order to be  covered under the grant. Right  now I have 9 that come intermittently which is OK.

I had to taker Freckles to the vet yesterday for a follolw up on her UTI and to get an allergy shot. We have visits bother tomorrow and Thursday, so I need to get her cleaned up for the Hospital visit on Thursday. tomorrow I also go to the Alzheimer/Dementia  caregivers group after out visit at the residential facility.

Yesterday a friend  reminded that we are both  almost 80. It is hard for me to  grasp that in 2 years I will be 80, I sure don't feel like it.

I am reading through the Bible again, it has been quite a few years since i did. I read Job, Psalms before I started at t Genesis, now I am  half way through 1 Samuel. I had forgotten how interesting it is to read the history that predates Jesus and how much prophecy of Jesus there is in the old testament.

I hope everyone has a blessed day.

Excerpt taken from UK tv programme...Grayson Perry - Rites of Passage...

Perry posed the intriguing question: when do people truly die, when they stop breathing, or when they're no longer remembered?

That is a good question...

Good morning!  Or whatever the time is where you are!  I have been busy doing "stuff", trying to clear the afternoon to tackle trying to get photos chosen for the book.  I do not know how to find and move them to where I need them; prayers appreciated.  I cannot continue to lean on the grandson for that kind of help; he has gone above and beyond for me already, and is very busy running his business and with his family.  So I am trying to force myself into just  jumping in and trying to do it, even though I don't have the  foggiest idea what I'm doing.  :-\

Larry, sorry you didn't sleep well.  Darrel didn't, either.  I did pretty well, not the best.  Glad you can just take it easy when you need to.  Nice that you have many choices in places to eat, and get those good bargains, too!

Marilyn, good to see you, hope more of your Tai Chi people will be more regular in attending.  Sounds like fun!  We need to get ourselves back to the gym, I can really feel the difference when I don't get my exercise!  I'm thinking Darrel will be willing to go back next week.

Welcome, Rebot!  Glad to have you with us!  Please come in and tell us where you live, what you like to do, or anything you would like to share.

Jackie, that is an interesting question.  We know their bodies are dead, but if their memories are alive, then they aren't really "gone."  That's the way I look at it, anyway.  Have you another MS outing coming up soon?

I'm off to run a couple errands in town before I tackle the photo challenge!

[ Greetings Jackie A fascinating question by a most interesting person!

When we stop breathing, life does not exist as we know it.  Yet many people say they can feel the spirit of a departed loved one looking over them.

I believe those who pass away are always in our thoughts and prayers and will for all time be remembered by family.

Maybe a best answer is how we view Jesus....is he alive ( to us ) or dead?

The way I view this is, death is a new life we have yet to experience...

Janet...
...yes I have two MS socials coming up but as yet dont know what their " entertainment " or subject talks are going to be...neither have anything planned for this month...maybe will turn into a quiz night...The one I go to 31 miles away, next county have had the most fun and enjoyable evenings, the other, my more local, have had subject I have given a miss to as they have been about MS, such as leaving part of our brain to science or FEZ, ( Functional Electrical Stimulation ) sends electrical charges to a leg muscle..I want entertainment that will take my mind away from my Illness not reminders that are continually focusing on it...

I have a question...If we pray for forgiveness of something re regret from the past, how do we know we have been forgiven for it...when I say pray for forgiveness this doesn't mean in church, this can be from inside our own home...I have often broke down and cried but I still dont know if I have been forgiven for it...

Hi Everyone.  It is another bright and sunny morning and once again we are headed well into the 90's with a heat index that likely will exceed 100 degrees.  I got my day started early as made a trip to Walmart to pick up our online grocery order.  This time I had to go to a store that is over 20 minutes away from us as both of our local Walmart's had closed the online ordering for a week due to the hurricane.  Fortunately, there is a parkway I can go on for most of the way and the traffic wasn't bad.  I was home by about 8:30 and things are put away.  We are back from downtown where Pat had blood drawn in preparation at the lab in preparation for a visit to her GP next week.  When that was done we went across the street to have breakfast where I go to coffee on Thursday Mornings and split a Western Omelet and grits.  No need for lunch today. This evening is the Wednesday night dinner and then Scott will be out to visit with us for awhile.  That is plenty for one day.  I haven't read the messages yet so will do that when we get home later this morning.

Rebot,  Welcome and so nice to see you joining in the conversation.

Marilyn, you hadn't mentioned your Tai Chi class for quite awhile.  Glad it is going well and happy you have enough to keep your grant.  I hope you and Freckles enjoy your visits today.  I feel the same as you about approaching 80 as I am only about 5 months away from turning 78.

Jackie, interesting question.  I would say our earthly body is dead when it ceases to breath whether we are remembered in years to come or not. That sounds like a question that would be posed to Theology students or philosophy students.  You make an interesting observation.  Remember that Jesus came and died for our sins and that when we face judgment day our sins are forgiven and will be remembered no more.  Take a look at Hebrews 8:12

Janet, my often used advice when someone needs to know how to do something is to do a Google Search and it will probably link you to several YouTube videos that demonstrate how to insert photos into whatever software you have prepared your book with.  I did get a good nights sleep last evening.  However, have had a busy morning and look forward to getting some rest this afternoon.

Janet

Thanks, Larry.  I believe you told me to look for You Tube instructions for something before.  But I forgot, so thanks for yet another reminder.  I didn't get to work on that yesterday, and today was my painting day, so ......  My friend who read my manuscript went over it very quickly with me today and showed me a few things she suggests I change to make it better.  I'm thankful or her feedback!

Jackie, about asking for and receiving forgiveness, all you need to remember is 1 John 1:9  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
What a wonderful promise that it--and it is true EVERY time.  Maybe, like me, you have trouble forgiving yourself.  If so, just know, and try to accept that He has forgiven you, so why should you hold onto the guilt or pain any longer?  He has cleansed you--you're forgiven, washed clean, and set free! What a wonderful God we serve!

Rebot, good to see you posted again.  We hope you will become a regular here with us!

Tonight we will go to church for the Wednesday night dinner and stay for Bible study.  We missed the first week, as we weren't home yet.

Today I painted a newborn baby giraffe!  She's pretty cute!

Hi Everyone.  Just more of the same weather wise today with heat and humidity.  However, yesterday evening when we came home from dinner at the Church I noticed the air was much cooler than it has been at that time all summer so there is hope for some cooler weather.  Our dinner last evening at Church was quite good and we all enjoyed it.  We then came home and had a nice evening with Scott.

Today is coffee day so will pick up my friend and go downtown for an hour.  I have a prescription to pick up at Walmart and a couple of other items and then plan on a quiet day.  I think I will refresh my Windows 10 software on my laptop.  Fortunately it doesn't have too much in the way of programs installed and the refresh doesn't destroy my personal files although will certainly back them up before starting the process.  It is a bit of a job but have done it quite a few times so know what is involved.  Other than that I plan for a quiet day.

Janet, are you going to post your new baby giraffe painting on your Facebook page.  I always enjoy looking at your paintings.  That is another really appropriate Bible verse you shared with Jackie in response to her question.  It is interesting how we find it so hard to forgive ourselves because we are not perfect in all that we do.  Hope you had a good dinner at your Church last evening.  Do you have a regular paid cook to fix these meals?

Good day all!  We are sunny and cooler today and it finally rained last night.  Super nice to have this rain.

Son & wife left a few minutes ago and they will be back in December for more appointments.  Meanwhile, his doctors are pleased with the better numbers on his 4 days of check-up.  Even the word "miracle" was made.  I'll take a miracle anytime in life.

I have to put a binding on this last quilt and it is the happiest time as I really like to sit and enjoy the finishing project.  We have enjoyed having a dog visit this week and at the same time do not even think of having another animal ourselves.  The coyotes are back in the ravine after being absent for months.  There yipping has wakened me two nights in a row.  Time to get up and get the walk-out basement ready for anyone visiting - meanwhile, we may have to take a little nap just to rest a bit today.  Oh, forgot to mention that elk were seen south of our house, I am not sure where exactly but this is a suburb of Denver. With all the traffic, you would think animals would feel crowded out of this area.

Hello Rebot!  I hope someone can help you with the font you prefer.

Marilyn

Please pray for Keith. His prostate is very swollen, He was catheterized yesterday, Today  he just keeps leaking. the dementia isn't helping, last night he thought he saw people in th back yard. It may have been a deer, but he sure thinks it was two people walking low to the ground, He was up looking in all the rooms, opening and closing doors. He sees the Urologist next Thursday afternoon.  Dr. Craig (his son) said it will never get better only get worse. They woin;t operate on a person with dementia because being in the hospital will just confuse them more..

Hi Everyone.  We are in for a mostly sunny day and getting back into the low 90's this afternoon with humidity.  It will be a busy morning as the housekeeper will be here, I have to go for a pacemaker check and on the way home will stop at Costco to pick up a few things.  I plan to eat my lunch there as know by the time I get home I will be ready to rest.  I slept good last night until I woke up at 5 this morning.  Yesterday was a full day with going to Walmart, downtown to coffee and resetting my laptop computer and then restoring the various programs I use on it. The reset removes applications but leave personal files and settings.  However, I am careful to have those backed up just in case something goes wrong.  I think I about have everything back to where I want it.

Rebot, if you are posting in the little box at the bottom of the page click on the Preview link and it will then give you the posting box with the various setting available such as selecting the font and size that you will see when it has actually been posted.  What you see in the posting box is controlled by the setting you have for your computer.  In the setting click on the "Personalization" link and you can then select the font that you will see on your computer.  If what you are seeing on your screen is too small you can set the default in the "Display" link.  I have a 22 inch monitor and keep my setting at 125 percent for display.  Another way to increase the size of the info you are seeing on your screen is to hold down the control button on the keyboard and scroll the mouse wheel up or down to get it to a size that is comfortable.  I hope this is helpful.

Carol, glad you son got such good news as "miracles" are always a good thing when it comes to health.  Glad you enjoy finishing your quilts with the hand sewing.  I have seen Pat do that a lot in the past.  It sounds like it may be getting close to the time to get the suitcases out and make your lists for your return to Arizona as it sounds like Don is ready to go.

Marilyn, sorry that Keith is experiencing new problems physically and with the dementia.  I remember that my mother as she advanced in her dementia was certain that one of the neighbors was going to break into the house.  She insisted Dad cut up all of the credit cards, she kept the window blinds pulled all the way down at night feeling someone was peaking in and spying on them.  Then the sundowner's syndrome set in and at night she would go around the outer edge of the rooms in the house just touching the walls.  Does Keith wear any kind of identification bracelet or have something with a GPS tracking in case he gets out of the house without you knowing it?  I know you have your hands full and I will certainly remember both you and Keith in my prayers.

Marilyn

Larry I think I would have a hard time at this point getting him to wear an ID bracelet or tracking device. He still know what os going on but at times he doesn't. I have him wearing Depends   now since  the bladder is leaking so profusely.

Hello, everyone!  Another week is almost gone!
They seem to fly by so quickly, at least to me, they do!

I am suddenly so sleepy I can barely keep my eyes open.  Maybe I will take a short nap.  However, when I try to nap, I usually wind up being wide awake!

I don't seem to have any news at all today, have suddenly gone blank in that area.  So along with a hearty hello to all, I will add, see you later!

Hi Everyone.  This morning started out at 65 degrees here but will again climb into the low 90's this afternoon.  I would like to attend my Saturday meeting this morning but will have to find a little more energy before that time or I will be staying home.

I really wore myself out yesterday.  When I got to the doctor's office parking garage I had to park quite a distance from the stairs that go into the office building and then up a long hallway into another building.  I had to wait an hour beyond my appointment time to get my pacemaker checked.  Everything was fine with it.  Then I had to make the trek back to the car.  I stopped at Costco, which was on the way home, and ate a bite of lunch at the little snack bar they have.  When I got there are of the riding carts were in use and I decided I was just too tired to walk that big store to get what I needed and that I would just come on home and shop another day.  However, when I went outside there were two riding carts available so I got one and was quickly and easily able to do the shopping.  As I was unloading the items into the truck a nice Costco employee said he would take the cart back up the doorway where the carts are kept (I expect that is the only time he is allowed to sit down).  By the time I got the items unloaded and into the house I was beyond ready to lay down.

I plan on watching some football and probably some of the golf this afternoon.

Marilyn, it is good that products like the Depends are now available for both men and women.

Rebot, do hope the instructions were not too hard to follow.

Janet, I sure agree with you on time going by so quickly.  I often don't sleep very long, if at all, during the couple of hours I rest each afternoon and if I do it is usually for just short periods of time.  I usually listen to an audio book with my eyes closed.  I set the timer for 15 minutes on the book so if I do go to sleep I don't have to search very long to find where I last remember hearing the story.

Good Saturday morning to all of you.  I have been up for a couple of hours, but am feeling tired and draggy today.  I know I need to get back to my exercise program!  If you don't use it, you lose it! and I can tell I am losing strength and balance, since we haven't been to the gym in about three months now.  I know Larry cannot do the kind of exercise we do, but neither of us has any heart problems, and we do so much better when we exercise regularly.  I really hope Darrel will feel like starting again next week.

I have some ideas for painting that I'm wanting to work on--found some nice birds, and I do enjoy painting birds!  One of the ladies I paint with never paints anything but cats!  I would get tired of doing the same subject every time, but she's really a cat lover.  :)

Like you, Larry, I am hoping to find a little more energy today.  What I really think I want to do is go crawl back into bed, but I won't do that.
I know if I did, I wouldn't sleep anyway.  Maybe I will find the gumption to look up a you tube instruction about moving photos, and putting them into a file so I can at least find them again!  :-\

It's really cool here this morning--58*.  It started out at 46, and predicted high for today is 78!  So all in all, a very pleasant day.  I can really feel Fall in the air!

Darrel just got up, so I'll see if he has any plans for the day.  I hope he will do something other than sitting in his chair and reading.

Did I mention that John and I are going to "Comfort Zone" in October?
It's a three day camp at Camp Lakeside near Scott City, for families who are grieving the death of a loved one.  It is done by Hospice, and I have heard really good things about it.  We stay two nights, and get all meals, for a cost of only $10.00 each.  Amazing.  Some of the memorial money for Beth went to this project, so I feel a connection through that, as well.  I think I am doing well in my healing, but John seems to be "stuck".  He keeps talking and talking in circles, saying the same things (about Beth and himself) over and over and over.  He is totally addicted to his cell phone and spends 90% of his time on it, arguing politics with people on Facebook!  :-\  I told him it's useless, that he will never change anyone's mind, nor they his, so why waste his time?  But he will do what he wants to do.  I wish he would find a part time job or something.

Okay!  Shut up, Janet!!!  I'll talk to you later!

Good Saturday morning, I have been up since 4:30. I got up to help Keith who had removed his depends and was trying to put his sweatshirt on for pants.
After that I took Freckles out for potty  then went back to bed. I do not feel well this morning, I came down with this bad cold yesterday and it is  kicking me in the backside. I will have to go to Walmart for more depends and a few other things to  feed us and the cats until I feel better.

In the last 3 days Keith hasn't eaten as much as I have in  a whole day. Just  parts of a sandwich and a little soup. I know he needs water too., He should have gone back to have his bladder drained and the bag put on him, but he insists he  doesn't need that the depends are doing the job.  I can't convince him other wise

I will be going to the county seat on Monday to transfer the house into my name and register The POA. Then I have to draw all but  as couple of thousand out of his bank accounts leaving one open for his Social security, The rest I will put in a savings. I am doing all this so he  can get Medicaid and on  the advice of his sons and am attorney friend of his. Otherwise the state can take everything for his care even the house./size]

Marilyn, I have some idea of some of the things you're going through.  In order for the Care Home not to take Beth's trailer, we put it in my name, and I had to keep an eye on her bank account to make sure that big $62 a month they left her for her needs from her Social Security check didn't build up over time to above the maximum allowed.  :(  They are still billing her for over $1000 they say she still owes.  The last bill I got, they wrote like a letter to her, telling her she still owes the money and asking for her new address!  I am thinking about writing and giving them her new address:  Beth Brandt, 402 East Golden Street, New Jerusalem, Heaven--- or something similar.

I'm sorry the Alzheimer's is progressing so quickly in Keith.  It's a very difficult situation for you, and you are doing well in getting the legal stuff taken care of now.  It will make things easier for you down the road.

Rebot, Larry is really good with computers, his suggestions I have found to be very helpful.

We are about to drive to one son's home just to check out the new kitchen.  The old one was crowded and so dark and they took out a half wall to open up and still have a large kitchen.  Otherwise, our oldest son and wife and doggie left - driving straight through today to Montana.  We all feel relief from the better check-up - he will be back in December for another full week.

I remember arguing with bureaucrats after my mother died and Social Security had her listed as living.  They did not listen to me even giving them dates and everything.  I had to return their checks that kept coming.

Larry:  I cut and ironed the binding this morning and now to attach it - taking a break.  Every day this week is full with friends & family.  Church is out tonight because they have an outdoor picnic with all the music and noise,, Don would not be able to enjoy that service.

Our area near Denver is now # 8 on the list of places to live.  Crum - we are trying to be hidden.  Too much traffic already.  Everyone is complaining loudly over the crazy uptick in population.

Time for tea!

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone.  It is another bright and sunny Sunday morning on this first full day of Fall.  Our high today is suppose to get to 88 so maybe we will finally see a break in the 90+ degree days.  I stayed home all day yesterday as wasn't feeling very good.  I had a several hour spell where I was wheezing and coughing and then around dinner time it went away and I was fine all evening. I did have quite a bit of angina yesterday.  However, even after more than 9 hours of sleep last night I am still tired and am seriously considering not trying to go to Church this morning.  I hate to miss Church but I think I just need a day of rest.

Janet, I wouldn't last 5 minutes trying to do the exercises we used to do at cardiac rehab. I did do cardiac rehab for four years three times a week but at that point I kept having trouble and my cardiologist told me that I needed to do what I felt I could do.  I hope you and Darrel will be able to resume your exercise program.  You had not mentioned the Camp for grieving family members.  That sounds like it will be a very worthwhile endeavor for both you and John.  I guess the time John spends on his phone at least gives him something to occupy his time and mind.  I got bills for Stacey for quite awhile.  Initially I called and told them she was no longer here but just ignored second and third billings of the same thing and eventually they stopped.

Rebot, the instructions helped you.  It always gives me joy to be able to help someone else.

Marilyn, so sorry you have come down with a cold as you need your strength to deal with the situation you have with Keith.  Like Janet, I am glad you are getting the legal matters taken care of ASAP.

Carol, a remodel in a house can really make a difference.  I think Hospice notified Social Security regarding the disability check that Stacey was getting at the time she died because I called them the next day and they were already aware.  Do you find sewing on the binding a relaxing thing to do?  I would also pass on attending an outdoor picnic.

Janet

I read the posts before leaving for church.  Larry, did you stay home to rest?  Sure glad your wheezing and coughing stopped! And also hope you will feel a lot better tomorrow - or later today!  :)

Larry, Im thinking we will be starting more or less from square one on exercising, as we have missed so long.  But I know we both do a lot better when we exercise.  We could just go to the senior center for that, but they do everything sitting down, which I don't think is as much benefit to us.

I tried to work with my photos after watching a you tube video instruction; it didn't work. :(  I don't have the same icons or tool bar on my Mac as he showed, so all I accomplished was getting very frustrated. Darn.  I watched several; none were what I need.  And the thing specifically said "on my mac."

Carol, it seems you deal with so many frustrations because of the area where you live.  I know I would hate the traffic and congestion too.  If you really want to get away from it all, you're welcome to move to Southwest Kansas!

We have a nice pot of ham and beans cooking, I can hardly wait, as they smell so good!

Maybe I will do a bit of WC painting this afternoon.

Greetings Larry  If I can help someone along the way, it so pleasing.  Both my hubby and I prefer to look out for others, before our needs.

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone. We have a cloudy morning and expected to be partly cloudy all day with a small chance for rain.  I had a better day yesterday than Saturday although, as they say, not something to write home about.  I didn't do as much coughing yesterday but experience that extreme exhaustion.  I did get a good nights sleep.  I only have two or three small things I want to accomplish this morning and then will take it easy the rest of the day.

Pat's new walker did arrive as scheduled yesterday but I didn't feel up to getting it out of the box and assembled.  Mainly it is putting on the front wheels and the back brake type feet.  I am anxious to see if it is going to work for her as it only weighs 12 pounds.  I also need to shred up another pound of cheddar cheese.

Janet, I did miss Church yesterday as was just too tired to go.  I am hoping this will be a much better day.  I am sure the sitting down exercises would not be as helpful as the more physical ones and the walking as they wouldn't get your heart rate up nor exercise the muscles as much.  I had forgotten you were working with a Mac so understand why the videos probably wouldn't be too helpful.  I have never used a Mac so really can't be of much help.  Pat used to make a 15 bean type soup with ham and it was very good.  However, it has been a long time.

Rebot, there are many kind and caring and helpful people.  I do know that I must take care of myself first or I won't be much good or help to someone else.  I do find that I get a lot of joy and satisfaction out of being able to help someone else even it is a small thing.

Marilyn

Good morning everyone. I am feeling better this morning  I must be on the mend from the cold. I didn't go to the gym this morning.

I was thinking about how long we have "known" each other in this group. We must all be getting uyp there inb age. I joined you all back in 2002 I believe, so I must have been 62 then with my first computer. Wow  this group has been together almost 20 years.

Right, Marilyn!  And I know that several of us are within a few months of the same age.  ;)  But, it's not the age, it's the mileage, right?  This group is special to me, and I miss several who no longer come in, and those who have gone on to heaven.

I'm going for a chiropractor treatment in a few minutes.  Haven't been adjusted in months, and my neck is telling me about it, too!

Apples are cooking in the crock pot with a bit of cinnamon and agave syrup.  I did get the fridge cleaned and sewed half of the binding on the quilt.  The basement is ready for company - I need a nap sometime. One son came over for a visit - he is not the one who wants to drive (share driving) with us this weekend to Tucson.  The youngest has a meeting in Phoenix so will rent a car and the company will fly him back home. from Phoenix.  That is our most disliked airport - so confusing.

Janet:  I do love little towns - we raised our children in a Minnesota town of 500 with no grocery store, The kids played hockey, and otherwise were on the lake or biking all around.  7  miles to church or groceries so we had to be prepared for blizzards, etc.

Larry and Marilyn - nice to read you are both feeling better.

Rebot:  It is nice to see you posting.  Do you have any hobbies?  Or, even have time for a hobby?

Perhaps you misunderstood my thoughts om helping others.  In relation to health matters, without a doubt, we must look after our own health and our loves one?s first.    Our predilection is helping others in life, be it assisting them in what ever way we can and sometimes in giving to those who find it hard to make ends meet.

Do I have a hobby!   I like crosswords, sudoku and working out puzzles.  Though, are they hobbies?

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone.  We are to have another partly cloudy day getting up to around 90 degrees again this afternoon with very little chance of rain.  We didn't get a drop yesterday.  Our main activity for today is for Pat to see the GP for a regularly scheduled appointment around 10:30 this morning and then we will go from there out to have our main meal of the day.  We haven't been out to eat since the last Wednesday night dinner at the Church if I remember correctly.  Nothing else is on tap for the day.  I did feel a lot better yesterday afternoon and did not have a recurrence of the wheezing and coughing and I am hoping today will be even better.

Marilyn, good to see that you were feeling better yesterday.  Those old colds really drag a person down.  I started writing daily on SeniorNet  in 1997 or 1998, about 6 months after the discussions were started and there were only a few discussions at that time.  I have been writing daily on these discussions since almost day one.  I feel I know many of you much better than most of my relatives.  We have supported each other in our ups and downs, illnesses and losses in our families and our cyber families.  These discussions and friendships have met a lot to me.

Janet, I also miss so many cyber friends who are no longer with us or have stopped participating often health related.  I hope your chiropractic treatment smoothed out the kinks and you are feeling better.

Carol, I don't think Pat has ever used agave syrup.  It sounds like this is the weekend for your winter living to begin in Arizona.  When I was growing up on the farm we lived only about a mile from our little town of around 100 people but there was a drug store, grocery store, barbershop, gas stations and post office in the town.  However, all of those are long and all the businesses are located in the college town about 6 miles away.

Rebot, I didn't mean to argue with you on taking care of others as I do think as long as we are able to do so we should do what we can in that regard.  I do a couple of crossword puzzles on the computer everyday but they are ones when you get the wrong letter it turns red.  I do not care for sudoku but love to work the jigsaw puzzles on the computer screen and also do a couple of those every afternoon and evening when possible.

Marilyn

You know; only one couple from my church have offered to help and actually brought over some wonderful  chicken soup to help me feel better. I was raised that when someone needed help you helped them, if they needed food you fed them., if they needed their house cleaned  because then couldn't do it you just went over and cleaned the house. You checked on them daily if they were ill to see what their needs were. My how things have changed. It seems like so many people are  either just for themselves or their  particular group or Click  The church in McKinleyville did all those things for each other. Well that's my  contribution for today. It is kind of depressing when you think about it.

This morning, Don did a google search and checked out a business question.  We had (immediately) 4 phone calls and an email from companies who have access to the sites.  We are being tracked all the time.

Marilyn:  My parents used to send me outdoors with a plate of food for the hobos - now, everyone would think that would be child abuse by the parents.  Next time you need help, let a couple of good friends know and I bet they will understand you do need some help.  Keep getting better.

Rebot:  I love Sudoku and work on it almost daily.  My main hobby is chatting with friends and even sometimes strangers.  There is always someone who needs a bit of company or distraction from reality.  Quilting is a hobby too but  I am far below the level of my true quilting friends.  They are kind to me.  Baking and cooking come in there too - last of all, knitting but that is only a back-up when sitting and waiting for someone's appointment - Don goes to the VA several times a year and the wait is long.

Speaking of the new VA in Denver - they built a larger building than previous one - they built a parking garage that is too small already.  Don had to drive around blocks trying to find a parking spot.  He had a long walk - to the hospital.  Fortunately, he can walk.  5 years late in opening and $$$ over original cost.

Greetings Larry  Sometimes the written word can be misconstrued in what it says.  I try to never dispute with people if I can, but instead prefer to become acquainted with people.  If it is with people in everyday sort of conservation or over the airwaves as my hubby calls social networking sites.   I take pleasure in talking over the airwaves with people.

I bring to mind most days the wise and inspirational words of Nelson Mandela.  There can be no greater gift than that of giving one's time and energy to help others without expecting anything in return.

I forgot to mention I like quizzes, as does hubby.

Quilting is something I am not very good at, but I soo enjoy cooking and trying new recipes.  Though hubby has a very limited choice of what he likes, so when I do try a new recipe, more for me 😊

Is VA the Veterans Association, as I know little about if it is.

Hello everybody!  I was determined to get moving again on my book, but run into a brick wall everywhere I turn!  I called the acquisition manager who was the first contact I had and expressed my frustration at getting NO help from anybody on my "team" and he was kind and understanding.  I did get some forms filled out regarding the book; however, I am no closer to finding help with the photos than when I began.
I guess I will go to Pioneer Communications and ask them if they know someone here in town whom I can pay to help me with the photos.  Sigh.....sorry, please forgive my moaning!  It will all work out!  I know this because I'm attempting to do what God told me to do.  The enemy doesn't like it, so is hindering--but he is UNDER MY FEET!!

Larry, glad you are feeling somewhat better today, that's always good to read!  And my adjustment did help me, too.

Rebot, where do you live?  I was thinking you were a man, because of your screen name.  :-[  One should never jump to conclusions!  I'm definitely not a quilter, either.  I love to read, paint, write, and travel.  Those are my main 'hobbies' I guess.  So happy to have you with us!

Marilyn, I know how you feel.  I have sometimes felt that way, too.  But I know everyone is so blasted busy with our own lives that we often fail to see the needs of those around us.  Your post makes me want to do better!
Hope you are feeling better, as we don't want you sick, and besides, you are contending with big problems just now, with Keith's illness.

Carol, so glad you stay in touch, whether in Colorado or in Arizona.  I think if I were in your place, I'd opt to just stay in Arizona--or somewhere else you like that doesn't have such overcrowding!  I pray for good travels for you as you return to Arizona.

I do have some Agave syrup, but forget to use it! :-\

Hi Everyone.  It looks like it will be another hot day here in South Carolina.  At least we have a 50% opportunity for rain this afternoon.  Pat plans to attend her Gifts group this morning so I will take her and go on down to coffee with the guys.  Yesterday I found that our downtown drug store had medical equipment on display so we stopped there after Pat's doctor visit as the doctor told her she definitely needed the Rollator and gave her the prescription for it.  She found just what she wanted and I am going to be able to get it into the back seat by placing it on the seat rather than between the seats.  I don't know why I hadn't thought of that before.  I can slide it in and out and not have to lift very much.  So that is a problem solved.  We will be going to dinner at the Church this evening with Scott and then look forward to our weekly visit with him.

Marilyn, we experienced our Church friends helping us when we needed help and our current Sunday School class is very good to help with the needs of others.  We also have tried to help over the years.  Maybe more of your Church members will step up to help in the future.

Carol, I have experienced the same thing with trying to gain some information on the web and almost immediately having someone call me on the phone.  I really don't care for this experience.  We are being tracked.  Yesterday at the doctor's office the receptionist who checked Pat in didn't complete the process and let the staff in the back know she was there.  After and hour of waiting beyond her appointment I spoke to the nurse who had come to call another patient that came in well after we did and shortly Pat was called for her appointment.

Rebot, I agree with the statement of Nelson Mandela.

Janet, so sorry you are having such difficulty with the photos.  If you would email me with the information about the software you are using for the book perhaps I could help you.  No guarantees but I am certainly willing to try to help.  Nice to see that your adjustment did help you.

Hello, Friends!  I have been painting today. I didn't accomplish much, but enjoyed being among friends.  Several were missing today, we always miss those who aren't there.

Larry, I'm just using Word to write the book.  I need help in locating and moving the 30 photos I'm allowed to put in the book, and the icons are so tiny that I cannot tell what they are without opening each one.  A painting friend said to go into my settings, and there I will probably find the way to enlarge them.  Also, my friend Carolyn brought my manuscript back today so I can go into the computer and make the needed changes.  Little by little!

Marilyn, that Fire Cider sounds like it would burn from your throat to your toes!  Is it as hot as it sounds?  I have some Kombucha fermenting.  It is said to contain so many of the prebiotics and probiotics we need.  One of my scrapping and painting friends gave me a start with the Scoby in it, and will write the instruction out for me.  She let me taste a few different kinds she had made, and they all tasted good.

And my young friend we met at the Senior Prom last year says he will come after school tomorrow to help me with the photos.  He has Musical practice at 7 so I hope we can get it done in that time period.  I told him I will pay him, but he said no, he would love to just help me.  Sweet boy, that Dylan!

Yesterday was Alexis, my eldest great-granddaughter's birthday.  She is eleven already!!  I can hardly believe it!

Glad you got the rollator for Pat, Larry.  I still want to know the difference between a walker and a rollator.  Is it that the rollator has wheels on the front?  On all four legs?  What?  I had never heard that term until Jackie talked about hers. (Inquiring minds want to know!)  ;)

How I pray that the lies of the enemy will be proven to be lies and Brett Cavanaugh will be confirmed tomorrow!  Those who tell outright lies, trying to ruin the reputation of good, honorable men, should be arrested, tried and thrown into jail!  Okay, off my soapbox!

I'm so glad we have dinner at church tonight.  I'm hurting and need a rest before we go, my back is acting up, likely from very little sleep last night.

Blessings on each of you!

Janet I think you mean Kombucha. It didn't burn when I put some in my OJ this morning. The batch I made has to  sit for a month with daily  turning  up and down for the flavors to "marry". I bought some from the helath food store that is commercial. it only used a dropper full. It is very spicy thogh

Hi Everyone.  It is a bit foggy here this morning after we had considerable rain and storms around her yesterday afternoon and evening.  The forecast says a 90 percent change of more rain today.  There were 7,000 people without power as a result of the storm and lightning struck the newspaper building in our County seat resulting in the loss of some of their computers and the ability to get the front page of today's newspaper printed.  It is suppose to be included with the tomorrows newspaper.

We spent the day at home yesterday as Pat wasn't feeling up to getting to her morning meeting.  We did enjoy a nice meal at Church last evening and then Scott came out for a short visit. Today will be my typical Thursday to pick up my friend and go to coffee.  I plan on stopping at Walmart on the way to pick up prescriptions for Pat and to put one on file and after we come back from coffee need to stop at the Credit Union, which is close to the Walmart to take care of some business. I have nothing else on the schedule for today.

Pat took her new Rollator to Church last evening and it worked out very well.  I notice she has put away the walker and started using the Rollator here in the house as well.  One of the suggestions in the little booklet that came with the Rollator was to get the little plastic shower caps to put over the wheels when putting the Rollator in the car to keep the seats clean and also to use the handy wipes to clean off the wheels after having it outside where it could pick up dirt and girt.  I am not worried about the car seat as it is leather and will clean easily but may still try the suggestions.

Hi Rebot.

Janet, since you have the young fellow coming to help you with the Word software I will not do anything at this time but let me know if you still have problems and I will see if I can help you.  Regarding the photos you probably have a setting in your file manager that will let you change the view of the files and one of the settings is for a large thumbnail, which makes the pictures show larger.  I know this exists for the Windows software and have to think it would also for the Mac.  It sounds like you are making good progress on the book although sure you would like to have it finished now that you are close to the end of the process.  Hard to believe that Alexis can be 11 years old.  Is she having a birthday party that you can attend?  The Rollator that Pat got yesterday says it is a walker on the pamphlet.  I think the main difference is the seat and the wheels and the brakes and that it is more heavy duty.  It doesn't have the tray over the hand grips like is available for the walker.  The one Pat has uses the 8" wheels on front and back, turns very easily and the hand brakes will slow you down and then can be locked when needed.

Marilyn,  I have never heard of Kombucha so glad you explained what it is.

Hi Everyone. We have an overcast morning and suppose to be mostly cloudy all day long with a small chance of more rain.  Yesterday we had three separate periods of heavy rain with a lot of lightning and thunder.  Yesterday was a very busy morning but I accomplished all I had set out to do.  Pat fixed us a delicious dinner with meat loaf, green beans, potatoes, apple sauce and a dinner roll.  There was enough left to put three dinners for both of us in the freezer for future use. Today I plan on staying home and taking it easy.

Rebot, I return your nice greeting and hope today finds you well and as busy as you want to be.

Hi there
I took Keith to his Urologist appointment yesterday, His stomach was very distended from him not being able to pee and he had refused to have the catheter. Well they got 2200 mls of urine from the bladder, installed the catheter and did blood work. we got home I had time to feed the animals and eat a bowl of soup and got a call to get him to ER stat. He was going into kidney failure. He is still in the hospital. I left him there in ER because I had to come home and let the dog out. By that time it was 7 pm and getting dark. I can't see well enough to drive after dark. The urologist as of yesterday afternoon, was going to use a camera to go into the bladder and look for problems as well and look to see what is going on with the prostate. Anyway I had a long day. His oldest son (the dr) called me at 9:45 and told me I am doing everything right and that his boys will be here this weekend, he had to  get some one to take his shift at the hospital. Then Gilbert My son called me at 10:30 and I had to tell everything again. I had tried to keep them all updated as the day progressed. I didn't get to sleep for quite awhile feeling guilty that I didn't stay at the hospital with Keith.  I need to take of Me too and I will keep you updated.

This  is all because of him being so darn stubborn and refusing to let me get him to the doctor.

Hi Everyone.  It looks like it is to be another cloudy and rainy day but the temperatures are suppose to stay in the 80's, which will be nice.  I have most of the kitchen chores completed other than to get Pat's breakfast when she gets up.  I am looking forward to the day as seem to be feeling better this morning than I have for several days.  I plan on attending my Saturday meeting this morning and then will watch college football this afternoon and probably some this evening.  Otherwise expect to have a quiet day.  I just stayed home yesterday and didn't do anything of note.

Marilyn, so sorry to read of Keith's new problems and now having to be hospitalized.  It sounds like he waited almost too long as kidney failure is certainly concerning.  I hope you have better news today and that the kidney problem was found in time and he will soon be home.  He is fortunate to have you there to see that he gets the medical attention he needs even if he wants to resist.

Rebot

Greetings  Larry   We have a dry day and sunshine,  Oops the sun has gone in!   When you say College football, is that American football?   Which I no nothing about and neither does my hubby.  He hope to watch some of the Ryder Cup on television or if not highlights.  Do you take an interest in the Ryder Cup?

Janet

I came here "for just a few minutes" and got involved in reading emails concerning the Cavanaugh hearings and all the associated drama.....so sad our country is even allowing such unsubstantiated accusations to get this much attention.

Anyway, my intention was to work on my book!  I am determined to get it 'buttoned up' soon!  My young friend was such a help with the photos, but I still have to change their identification to a number, so I can write "Insert IMG 1.jpg here" and on through #30.  Not an  easy task, but I shall persevere!

Larry, so happy to read you are feeling better now!  I didn't get enough sleep Thursday night, and we went to Garden yesterday.  I was so tired while we were shopping I kept thinking, "I don't want to do this.  I don't even want to be here."  Very uncharacteristic for me.  But I feel much better today.

Marilyn, so sorry to hear of Keith's mounting problems.  Yes, you do need to take care of you.  I surely do understand about night driving and eyesight problems!  And you knew Keith was where he was being cared for, so it's not like you abandoned him!  I hope his kidneys do not shut down, as that's a very serious problem, as I know you are aware.  I will continue to pray for you as you deal with this situation in your life.  And I'm SO glad you have his family's support!!

I didn't go out to Farmers' Market this morning, as we had been to Garden yesterday and didn't need any produce.  Darrel is cooking a nice roast with veggies for our meal tonight and tomorrow night.  We have a potluck at church tomorrow.  I am doing two dozen deviled eggs for that.  Our Guatemala team is doing a "cookie caper" fundraiser tomorrow, too, so we are helping with that.  Hope we do well. We want to help, even if it turns out we don't get to go.

Rebot, feel free to address any of us here, we are a friendly bunch!  ;)

Jackie, come out of hiding and talk to us, please!  :)

ay. Keith was released from the hospital at 11, back in ER by 12:30 he had pulled out his catheter. He is still there and two of his sons are with him. Keith will be  recommend to hospice on Monday. I just have to find peole to sit with him while I go teach my Tai chi class on Tuesdays and Fridays( I get paid to teach the class) and if I need to go to the grocery store. He is now eligible for medicaid unless  I spend all his money and  perhap selling the house maybe included before he can get medicaid. I still have to find out  from the  social worker if I put the house in my name if I can sell it and move to a smaller place without the state taking the $$$.

This is really getting too much for me to deal with and my Dr agrees. Grief from one of my sons passing  this month and now Keith. Sometimes I feel like  just sitting down for a good cry. I am waiting for his son to call me to go pick Keith up from ER since he wont be able to get into  their car.

Hi Everyone.  Today we get our first real break in the summer weather as it is suppose to only get to 83.  Of course, this morning we have 90 percent humidity and it is cloudy.  I am ready for Church and Pat is not eating her breakfast.  As far as I know she plans on attending Church with me.  I will come home from Sunday School and get her.  There is just enough time that we get their by the beginning of the service.  We will go somewhere to have our main meal of the day and the rest of the day will be free.  I did watch  2 1/2 football games yesterday.  I only lasted the first half of the evening game.  Two of the three schools I am now rooting for won although the game was in doubt until the end for Clemson, which is a South Carolina school, until about the very end.

Rebot, yes I do refer to American football.  However, your type of football, which we call Soccer (if I am correct) is really taking off in America and most colleges now have a Soccer team and many younger people also play it.  It is certainly good exercise.  I really have little interest in the Ryder Cup and just last week had to look up the rules of how it is competed.  I think the European team has a hefty lead on the American team.

Janet, I am glad your young friend was so much help to you on dealing with the photos.  At least you don't have too many photos to deal with so hopefully the job won't be too difficult.  Glad you were feeling less tired yesterday and hope today finds you also feeling better.  It sounds like Darrel fix you all a very good supper last night and today you will not have to worry about fixing a meal.  Is Darrel feeling better now.

Marilyn, I am so sorry that Keith's health has deteriorate so quickly and you face so many challenges ahead.  I think you are a very strong person who has faced many challenges iin your life and you will get through this also.  I know your faith will help you deal with the day to day situations.  I will continue to pray for you both.  It would probably be a good idea to get an appointment with your local Social Security office and find out where you stand with regard to your home and other financial situations.  I know when my Dad decided he needed to let Mother have the help she needed in the speical care unit of the local nursing home he went to the SS Office and got the information and forms he needed to establish what would be required financially.  You can probably get a lot of this information by looking at the SS website.  He was allowed to keep his home, furniture, car and half of the assets should Mother's expenses have to be used up to get Medicaid help for her.  Fortunately they never got to that situation. I am glad that Keith's sons are supportive of you.  I believe you said you have experience working with Hospice so you know what a caring and helpful organization they are. I know you have many folks covering you and Keith in prayer and that God doesn't put on us more than he gives up the ability to cope.

Rebot

Greetings Janet  I don't do politics, though hubby does.   However, in listening to the story surrounding Mr Kavanaugh, those speaking against Mr Kavanaugh, have the right to do so. The whole debate should not be conducted in the public domain, as it is in the press and TV programs.

Rebot

Greetings Larry  What most of the world know as football, has become more than a game. It has become big business with huge salaries being paid. Those who started the game in 1863 never intended the game to be the way it is now.

My hubby used to play golf and agrees with you on it is good exercise.  But he said it also taught him to be rude to the golf ball (he shouted at it), as it would not go where he intended it to go.  I tried to explain, was he not at fault,  not the golf ball!  :)

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone. It is a beautiful clear and sunny morning.  However, it is to be a mostly cloudy day with a high of 84.  I did come home from Sunday School yesterday and got Pat for Church.  Following Church we went to the Sunshine Grill, a favorite little local cafe that has really good old-fashioned hamburgers cooked on a grill.  It came with potato salad and we had to wait just a few minutes as they had to make more potato salad and when it was served it was warm and very tasty.  I came home and rested and then watched a the end of one football game and then the full game that followed.  It was a nice quiet afternoon.  Today will just be staying busy in my office this morning and then after lunch resting as usual and then a quiet later afternoon and evening.  As of now there is no plan to leave the house today other than to the mailbox late this afternoon.

Rebot, it seems there are huge salaries in most of the professional games.  It was the big involvement of television and the ad revenues that generated so much money for the owners of the teams and so I am glad the players benefit from it as well.  We now have American Football Franchises valued at over 2 billion dollars.  College Football also generates huge revenues for the major schools.  I didn't play golf long enough to consider it might be the balls fault that I couldn't get it into the air.  I only played a few times.  I know lots of people really enjoy it but I was not one of them in terms of playing it.

Rebot

Greetings Larry   That was my humour about hubby being rude to the golf ball.  As it has to be the golfers fault not the ball.

I decided to look at American footballers salary and one gentleman earns over $20 million a year.  Not sure any sportsperson is worth that amount a year.  Given that they will pay huge taxes, their take home salary is well beyond what I could ever imagine to have earned during my working days.

Did you receive my email of three days ago?

Janet

Good morning!  It is again very foggy here, and the temp was 50* earlier, but I'm sure it is warming.  Predicted to be 78 this afternoon.  Fall is certainly in the air~!

We had our fundraising "Cookie Caper" yesterday, and did pretty well, I think.
I haven't heard the total we made, but there are still cookies to sell, which we will offer on Wednesday night.  I bought a dozen for my young friend who helped me with my photos for the book.  I put them into a gift bag, attached a thank you card and delivered them to the high school office this morning.
It wasn't long before I received a sweet text from him!   :)

I'm praying really a lot about this:  I feel God wants me to design and paint the cover for my new book.  I have a pretty clear idea of what I want, I just do not feel confident in doing it.  But I am going to give it my best shot!
Prayers appreciated!

Marilyn, It's understandable that you feel overwhelmed with all the changes in such a short time.  God understands, and it's perfectly all right to sit down and have a good cry.  Sometimes, that's the best medicine.  Be gentle with yourself; you will make it through these trials.  (((hugs)))

Rebot, I must say I agree with you that no sports player deserves the obscene salaries they get.  But I know others disagree, so we just have to agree to disagree!!

I have never played golf, and only miniature golf a couple of times.  So I have no opinion at all on that subject!  (aren't you all glad?)   ;D

I must be about my business or I will not get the things on my list crossed off today!

Greetings Janet  The sportspeople on huge salaries more than likely give to charitable organisations and I admire that.

But there are people through no fault of their own, without enough to eat in some western countries.  And some of that salary money could be used to help others.

For there will never cease to be poor in the land.   Therefore, I command you, you shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.

Hi Everyone.  It looks like we will have another nice with some possibility of rain later this afternoon.  My schedule is light this today.  I thought Pat had placed a Walmart grocery order that I would pickup nearby this morning but don't see any email that it is ready so that may not have happened.  A friend will be here for an hour later this morning and that is all that is on the schedule that I know of now.  Pat made some delicious enchiladas for our dinner last evening and there was enough left for three more meals later on.  They will go into the freezer for now.

Rebot, I took your comment on the golf ball as humor.  I think the pro players blame their clubs after a bad shot as often see them beat them on the ground or throw them.  I agree that the salaries of some pro-athletes for one year far exceed what most of us were able to make in a lifetime.  I did receive your email from three days ago and answered it as well as the new one yesterday.  I see a new one in my mailbox so will answer that later today.

Janet, think we are all ready for fall as it has been a long and hot summer.  Nice of you to reward your young friend with the cookies.  I am sure you would do a great job designing and painting the cover of your book and what do you have to lose in doing it.

Janet

Good thought about the book cover, Larry!  Nothing ventured, nothing gained--right?  I spent quite a long time yesterday drawing the figures of Beth and me and modifying them.  Am pretty satisfied with one; the other needs more work; and both are too large, so will need to be resized.  Not a problem if I can get them the way I want them.  I'm rather excited about actually doing the cover myself, as that will make the book more personal.  Since it's a very personal story to me, that is fitting.

We had soupy fog early, it has burned off and it's going to get HOT here today.

Darrel and I went back to the gym this morning!!!  YIPPEE!  We need it!
While I was searching my studio yesterday for something; then moving paintings, I found I have lost so much strength and balance, it really shocked me!  I knew it was happening, but didn't realize how much!  So I hope we can stay at it and regain what we've lost in the past two or three months.

Today, I will officially join the gallery.  That means taking in enough paintings to fill my allotted space.  I sorted them out yesterday.  I want to have all different ones than I used for my "artist of the month" display. And I heard from my frame company that my catalog is on the way, so that's a step toward being able to do framing again.  Now I need to find a source for matboard and glass.

Gotta run!

Greetings Larry  I read your email and replied, and now have replied to me.  It is splendid that with the techno age we can keep in touch with each other.  And long may that continue.

Janet

I've had quite a day!  Got paintings moved to the gallery and hung, signed my contract, came home and made tags for the paintings, then painted two sunsets in acrylic, from those, I will choose one as the background for the book cover.  And I'm tired!  Hope I won't be too sore tomorrow from today's gym workout.  Of course we didn't go at it full bore; we know that would make us sore!

It will prove helpful that Tracy (gallery owner) can reduce the size of the figures I have drawn!

See you tomorrow!

Hi Everyone. We have a bright and sunny morning.  We will be in the high 80's again today with little chance of rain.  Pat's breakfast has been fixed and I have grated the pound of cheddar cheese as wanted to use some with her eggs and bacon bits. I have a number of things I want to accomplish today here in my office.  This evening is our Wednesday night dinner at the Church and it is fried chicken week, always a popular meal.  Yesterday we went to the Honey from the Rock Restaurant restaurant at noon and had a great meal.  I had meat loaf, creamed corn and sweet potato casserole with a dinner roll.  The food appears to be made right there and the serving are large.  Their pies look delicious but by the time I finished the main meal I wasn't hungry anymore so was good and by-passed the dessert.  This is the restaurant owned by a Church right next door and the people are so friendly and helpful.  I have to say it is one of my very favorite places to eat here.  It is served cafeteria style and they are open only 3 hours a day at the noon hour.

Janet, I am sure each stroke of your pen and paint brushes will be one expressing love for Beth.  In a way your book and drawing/painting is one final external expression of that love.  Glad you and Darrel were up to going to the gym yesterday.  You sure have a lot of projects on your agenda with your framing business, the book, the art gallery and I am sure many other things.

Rebot, years ago who would have imaged being able to communicate anywhere in the world.  I hope have a good day over your way.

JudyB

Good morning everyone.  It is cloudy and chilly here in north eastern Ontario.  Trees are changing colour and it will soon be picture time.

Larry several years ago you gave out a link that would save passwords.  I have lost one important password... Could you please give it tome again?  Now to get into the site that has the lost password!

Marilyn

Good Morning \everyone.  It is getting so daunting to get things done that need doing especially  with the house. Now I find that I need an attorney to get my name put on the deed. If my name is not on the deed and if Keith has to go facility, I lose the house. If my name is on the deed I can sell it and get into a smaller place.

Taking care of Keith is another daunting project to deal with. At 4:30am I was up taking care of his bag. He has somehow got the  clamp  undone and the urine leaked out I don't know where. I can't find it. That is the 4th ti8mne in 3 days  that has happened. He drags the bag behind him, forgets that he has to pick it up. I will be so glad that he will be able to go the bathroom on his own after his surgery on the 23rd.

The hospice intajke worker will be here tomorrow so then I can get some help.

Greetings Larry   Sometimes cell phones can be time consuming, as some young people seem as if it is glued to their hand!

I prefer a desktop computer, call me old fashioned or just old! :)

And may your day be a good one.

Carol

We just had the Presidential Emergency test on our cell phone.  It works!

There is no internet or land line phone working and everything should be fixed tomorrow.  We are at a coffee shop  after internet was down since Saturday.  Fortunately, we do have a cell phone thanks to the children handing us their older models.

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone. It is to be another beautiful mostly sunny day getting up to around 90 degrees.  I had difficulty sleeping last night and didn't get much sleep.  This will be a busy morning usual Thursday morning.  Pat put in a Walmart grocery order that I expected to pick up at the Walmart close to where I take my friend home.  However, when I looked at the reply back I found she had forgotten to switch the locations from the one over in Georgia, about 25 minutes or so away, to the closer store.  It was too late to chance it and it isn't a difficult drive up to Evans to get it I will do that after coffee.  I am hoping that the man who picks up my friend on Tuesdays and takes him to coffee will be there this morning as I know he will take him home and then I can go on to Walmart directly from coffee.  We did have a nice time at the dinner last night at the Church and then a good visit with Scott afterward.  I think he was shocked when he got here and I told him we had no chores for him to do for us.

Judy, good to hear from you.  I really like a program called LastPass for keeping my passwords.  You can store so much information in it and only you have the master password as it is not kept on their site.  They use heavy encryption on the passwords so I feel they are safe.  We use the paid version  because we can access our passwords from any platform like our phones, tablets, laptops and desktops.  They used to have a free version that would hold only a limited number of passwords and would only work on one device.  Another one I used years ago is called Roboform.  I hope this is the info you were looking for.  The link for LastPass is just www.lastpass.com .

Marilyn, you certainly have many challenges ahead of you.  I hope you can find a good attorney to help you with the legal matters.  Could you tie that bag someway to his leg so that if he got up it wouldn't drag on the floor.  Hopefully the hospice worker will have some good ideas to help you and will be of help otherwise.

Rebot, I think my granddaughter's phone is attached to her as it is constantly in her hand.

Carol, I got a text message as the alert but no emergency sound as expected for the Presidential Emergency test.  Are you in Arizona now?

Janet

Larry, I and several others who were at The Main Artery got both the sound alert and the text message from the Presidential alert system.  Amazing what technology is capable of doing; and I only have the vaguest idea of its capabilities.

I'm happy!   ;D  :cheer:  :bravo: :pine:  I got the painting for the book cover finished yesterday!  Whew, that's a relief.  I got an email telling me if I can get everything to the publisher before the end of this month, I can have the books here before Christmas, so am working hard toward that goal.  I'm getting really close!     Will need to make a trip to Garden City to Staples to have the painting scanned and sent.  They suggested Kinko's, but there isn't one of those anywhere in our area.

I'm just waiting for Darrel to finish drinking his tea so we can go to the gym.  Now that we have started going again, I'm determined to stick with it, even though my body is feeling sore this morning.

It's 47* here, completely overcast, with predicted high to get to 52*.  Not bad.

I will probably come back in later, if we don't go to Garden!

Hi Everyone. It is another clear day that is going to be hot by the afternoon.  When I went into my office this morning and looked out the window I saw workmen digging big deep holes between the curb and the sidewalk in all of the yards and starting to bury the fiber optic cable that AT&T is installing to provide cable service to our area.  I knew this was going to happen but it was still a bit of a shock.

The housekeeper will be here shortly and that is all that is on the schedule for today.  Yesterday was a very busy day as while I was at coffee a friend called saying they were in the area and wondered if we would be able to meet them for a late lunch.  We were delighted to do so and we visited for about 2 1/2 hours as the restaurant wasn't busy.  I had gone to coffee and then made the hour drive to the Walmart and back for the groceries before we went to met them.  By the time we got home I was extremely tired and sure feel the results of the day today, even though I had a very good nights sleep.

Janet, the text alert is a very good thing in my opinion and we hope it seldom if ever will be needed.  I just bet you make that end of October deadline to get your book finished.

Rebot, the State of Georgia, which is just across the river from where we live, recently put into effect a new law that drivers cannot even hold a phone.  I hope our State will soon adapt a similar law although I am doubtful as this State does its own thing and doesn't even require a helmet be worn to ride a motorcycle. I am looking forward to some 65 degree temperatures here in our area during the daytime rather than the low 90's we are still having.

Janet

I'm not sure where or if this post will appear, as I saw earlier that Judy had opened October's postings.  Maybe she forgot to lock up here?  Anyway, I will post, and see what happens!

We drove to Garden yesterday to get the cover painting scanned.  Now I must figure out how to put things on a flash drive and transfer them to Xulon Press. I'm not very happy with them so far, as feel they are not giving me the support I need.

It's very foggy again here today, but they say the temp will get to 89 after a very chilly day yesterday--then temps to plunge again tomorrow!  I'll just look out the window in the morning and see what's happening!  ;)

I need to make a couple of phone calls. Much to do and little time.  I'm telling myself that after I get this book and the other one I have ready (The stories I wrote about the elder citizens of our county) done, that I will take it easier, have time to declutter and paint and so forth.  Hope I keep my word to myself!  ;)

Tonight we are going to Dodge City with our friends to the dinner theater.
This might be our last one, as they said they do not plan to buy more tickets.  All of us are getting to the age that we dislike driving long distances at night (Dodge is 80 miles one way) and the prices keep escalating.  This play plus dinner is $110 each.  We have enjoyed going for more than 20 years now, but won't mind giving it up, either.  Too much.... :-\

I must get busy!
