DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

From Chris Saunders

Unless we can preach condemnation we cannot help anyone.
It has always been this way, God through His laws must first condemn and show someone their heart and their true state of moral and spiritual decline, before He can show them grace and mercy.
The soul that does not see His need to turn and repent of his sinfulness will never be saved.
To "accept Christ" " put your hand up, "say this prayer, " now go and live a Christian life".
Is nowhere found in scripture, that is why we have so many false " churches."
Conviction of sin is a great gift from Almighty God, and preceeds the Gift of Salvation.
Conviction..condemnation, The Lord Jesus Christ taking the sinner's place, the Atonement being accepted by the Father.
Salvation given, cleansing, sanctification, justification, sealing by God the Holy Spirit.
You never "accept Christ" He accepts you, by grace alone.

Just As I Am[/size]
(Click to hear the music)

Author:  Charlotte Elliott, 1789-1871
Musician:  William B. Bradbury, 1816-1868

Just as I am, without one plea,
But that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bidst me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, and waiting not
To rid my soul of one dark blot,
To Thee whose blood can cleanse each spot,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, though tossed about
With many a conflict, many a doubt,
Fightings and fears within, without,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind;
Sight, riches, healing of the mind,
Yea, all I need in Thee to find,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, Thou wilt receive,
Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
Because Thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, Thy love unknown
Hath broken every barrier down;
Now, to be Thine, yea, Thine alone,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, of that free love
The breadth, length, depth, and height to prove,
Here for a season, then above,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come!

   HYMN HISTORY:
It must be true to say that no sacred song or hymn has been more used to bring sinners to the feet of Jesus, than this one.

Sung by grand choirs in vast crusades as hundreds have come or by congregations, large and small, as one's and two's have come; this hymn has moved the hearts of multitudes.

"Just As I Am," rings with a clear, positive note. It invites the sinner, just as he is, with all his sin, in all his unworthiness, despite his fears, though poor, wretched and blind, to come to the Saviour.

That's an invitation which is absolutely scriptural! We don't need to wait until our lives have been straightened out before we come to Christ. There's nothing we can do which will ever make us more acceptable in God's sight. The Bible clearly teaches that God loves the sinner, just the way he is, and wants him to come like that.

Only Jesus Christ can deliver us from the guilt and penalty of sin. Only He can solve all the problems of life. Only He can give us peace and joy and hope for the future. It was out of her feelings of frustration and hopelessness that the daughter of an Anglican minister in Brighton, England, wrote the words of this fine hymn.

One day in 1833, when Charlotte Elliott was in her forty-fourth year, she was feeling unusually depressed and alone. The other members of her family had gone off to a church function while she, an invalid and bedridden, remained at home.

Before her illness she had lived a happy, carefree life enjoying its many pleasures and gaining a measure of popularity, as a portrait artist.

Now, all of this past and stricken with the sickness which was to plague her for the rest of her life, she felt utterly useless and cut off. In addition, although she had been a Christian for many years, she began to have doubts about her relationship with the Lord. How could she be sure that all was well with her soul?

In her distress she began to list scriptural reasons for believing that she was, indeed, a child of God. She recognised the power of the Saviour's precious blood. She remembered His promise to receive all who come to Him by faith; and His ability to pardon, cleanse and save.

As she meditated on these great truths her heart was warmed and very soon Charlotte Elliott, who was also fond of writing poetry, was putting down her thoughts in verse:

Just as I am, without one plea,
but that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bidst me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

It's just here that we encounter a new slant to the story.

Charlotte Elliott's brother was anxious to start a school to benefit the children of poor clergymen, and had organised a bazaar to raise funds.

It seemed that everybody in the town had helped with the project. Everybody, that is, except Charlotte, who was so stricken with paralysis that she could barely drag herself around her room.

So she published her new poem "Just As I Am," in the hope that from its sale she could contribute something to her brother's school fund.

The poem was instantly successful and was soon selling all over England in large numbers as well as being translated into a number of foreign languages.

Charlotte Elliott never did enjoy good heath for the rest of her life. She remained bedridden until the Lord, at last, called her home when she was eighty-two years old.

However, before her death she received more than a thousand letters of thanks and compliments from people who were grateful that she had written "Just As I Am."

Just as I am, Thou wilt receive,
Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
Because Thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Judy, I'm just thinking about the many, many times I have heard that song sung as preachers waited for just one more person to come!  To say I memorized it well is an understatement--every word is indelibly imprinted in my memory!  But I didn't know the history of the poem/song; thanks for that.  I haven't heard the song in years!

I got up at 3:45 today, spent an hour in prayer, Bible reading and journaling; then two hours working on my book.  By then Darrel was up, we went to the gym; then home to dig in my flower containers and set out the flowers Diane gave me Saturday.  Now I'm showered and dressed; ready for my lunch date with the nice boy I met at the Senior Prom.  His mom is addicted to alcohol; left home in September, and was arrested for drunk driving last Friday night.  Dylan needs someone to talk to outside the family, and I consider it a blessing to be able to try to encourage him, and to pray for him.  Our time will be very short, as he has a bit less than an hour out of school for lunch.  Prayers appreciated.

Talk to you later!!

Thank you Janet.  It is amazing the history behind some of the well known hymns.

I went to visit a Christian elderly neighbor tonight.  The political debate was on and I really didn't want to hear it.  She twisted her foot/ankle 2 weeks ago and still is in a lot of pain.  We had a nice visit.  As you go about your day could you keep Bunny in your prayers?  She is a dear lady, and a good friend.

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone.  It is another beautiful morning and we will be in the low 80's this afternoon and party cloudy, although it is to be sunny this morning.  I have a busy morning planned as have an appointment with my podiatrist to get my toenails trimmed.  I should get a discount as only have 8 nails left to trim but sure that won't happen.  I then plan to stop at Lowe's to put some painting supplies so that Elizabeth can paint our front porch columns, which she prepared last week.  Then I hope to stop at Costco for gas and a couple of items and finally at the strawberry stand to get another half gallon of strawberries.  That will be plenty for today.  I did wake up around 3:30 this morning and couldn't go back to sleep so finished listening to an audio book and then got up and ready for the day.

Judy, thanks for the special postings of the writings of Chris, the hymn and its story.  I have sung that hymn many, many times but never knew the story behind it. Are you still harvesting the maple sap?  I hope you and John are doing OK.  It was kind of you to visit with your elderly neighbor.

Janet, I grew up in a very small Disciples of Christ (Christian) Church and we have an invitation given each Sunday and often this was the hymn we sang.  Glad you are willing to listen to Dylan and hope he was able to open up to you.

JudyB

Yes we are done with the sap we got about 10 pints.  It wasn't a good year, the weather didn't co-operate!  LOL

My neighbor is a very special lady I love to visit with her.

Have a great day everyone!

Janet

I missed yesterday, I see.  And got here through a different route today because it was locked.

Larry, I grew up in a little Baptist church where Just As I Am was sung many, many times!

My young friend Dylan only had less than a half hour for lunch, so too short!
But we had a good visit, and he wants to meet again when he has more time. I'm pleased that he does!

Abby texted me today that she is a bit over $1000 short in getting all of her support for her summer missions trip; I told her this is a lesson in learning to live by faith, and that I will continue praying with her for the support to come in.  She said, "Yes, please keep praying!"   :)

Darrel and I skipped gym and got out early to work in the garden.  He's been soaking it for several days to get it soft enough to sink a spade into the ground!  Whew!  That's hard work for two kids our age!!  :P  I am hurting from stem to stern!  And we didn't even get half done.  I still have more pots to prepare and more flowers to plant.  I don't know why we want to do the garden---maybe because those fresh, home-grown tomatoes taste so good!!!???

Judy, that sounds like a ton of work for only 5 pints of syrup  Hope you have enough to last until this time next year!

Carol--hello to you when you pop in!  Hope all is well with you in Colorado!

Hi Everyone.  It looks like it well be another nice day here in the mid-80's.  Pat has a doctor's appointment this morning and then we are going to pick up Elizabeth to come out to do some more projects for us.  I picked up the paint and brushes yesterday for the porch columns.  Then we she will install the two remaining slide out shelves we have for our bathroom.  There are several other things we will ask her help with as well.  It was such a relief yesterday to get my toenails trimmed and my toes no longer hurt. This evening is our Wednesday night dinner and then visit with Scott.

Judy, sorry that it wasn't a good year for the maple sap as know you and John put a lot of effort into the project.

Janet, you are right it is a good lesson that Abby is learning to put her trust in God and living by faith.  I hope your garden work will be worth all of that effort.  I expect you have to do a lot of watering of it during the growing season.  Other than our bushes, small trees and azaleas we have no special planting outside.  I hope your tomatoes do well.

Janet

Good morning!  I'm on hold waiting to get a snafu straightened out with airline tickets to Guatemala.  Pastor's wife made a wrong click that caused Pastor, Darrel and I to be put on a different flight, resulting in a 10 hour layover in Guatemala City, (spending the night) while the rest of the group would be on their way to where we will be staying.  Pastor got his straightened out, then she called to tell me how to do it.  She couldn't do it for us because it's our credit card.  So I'm typing while I listen to annoying "music" coming from my phone.  She said it took Todd 30 minutes to get his done.  I'm thinking it will be longer because I'm on hold so blasted long!

Larry, Elizabeth is really a blessing to you, isn't she?  So glad you have strong young arms, etc to help you out with the chores that have become too difficult over the years!

If they answer, I will click out of here, even if it's in the middle of a sentence, so if this  stops abruptly, that's the reason!

I signed up a new Zeal customer yesterday!   :) :D  And another very well-known Doctor has signed on with his approval!  This is one who has spent his entire career studying Alzheimer's and other related problems, trying to find help for those people, and to prevent those problems.  He says Zeal is by far the best product he has come across to help with that.  This should be welcome news to all of us!

Today is Wednesday!!  Yea!  I get to go paint with my friends again!  I really missed that last week, but getting the van sold was too important for me to not be available.

Welcome to all who pop in later!

We finally have spring like weather here in the north.  What strikes me as funny is Great Britain which is further north than we are, has flowers and trees blooming, and has had for some time.  Chris has been posting pictures of his flowers for a few weeks now.

Keep Chris and Margit in your prayers, they are dealing with some serious health issues. They are both wonderful people.

John and I are working on the outdoors spring clean up.  With over 40 acres of cleared land it is quite a process.  We have brush to burn and lawns to scrape.  John has said we will be in to mowing as early as next week.  That is earlier than last year.

Oh Larry I checked what I put as our finished sap, it was 10 pints and that is enough for us and a pint each for the family.  Some of the sap was turned into sugar and is delicious in tea!
The next project is honey, we are picking up 2 packages of bees on the 9th of June and that will be the first time in quite a number of years.  We want to go off store bought sugar completely.  There are so many with diabetes problems, and with honey it is twice as sweet as sugar.  So 1 teaspoon full of honey is equal to 2 teaspoons of sugar.

Anyway back to work and wishing you all a blessed day.

~I Surrender All

For five years, Mr. Van de Venter wavered between the challenge of the Gospel ministry and that of becoming a recognized artist. Here is how he tells it:

For some time, I had struggled between developing my talents in the field of art and going into full-time evangelistic work. At last the pivotal hour of my life came, and I surrendered all.

A new day was ushered into my life. I became an evangelist and discovered down deep in my soul a talent hitherto unknown to me. God had hidden a song in my heart, and touching a tender chord. He caused me to sing."

Dr. Billy Graham, wrote this tribute to Mr. Van de Venter:

One of the evangelists who influenced my early preaching was also a hymnist who wrote 'I Surrender All'—the Rev. J.W. Van de Venter. He was a regular visitor at the Florida Bible Institute (now Trinity Bible College) in the late 1930s. We students loved this kind, deeply spiritual gentleman and often gathered in his winter home at Tampa, Florida, for an evening of fellowship and singing.

Many thanks for the music.  It was played just like I remember - I have not heard it in years.

A friend and I are back from our annual breakfast/brunch at church with a huge gathering and each person brings a dish to share.  You cannot imagine the amount of food is set on many tables.  It has been so good to meet the gals from our round table - one is a missionary who goes to Indonesia.

I had to order a new but cheaper cell phone.  It will be fine - the old iphone doesn't have a ring tone when someone is calling and this one has a flip top and we will save on this plan anyway.  Don spent the morning at the VA and everything went so smooth so he is back after having three appointments.  Record setting day.  Not record setting in the amount of time it takes to drive through this pot-full city.

Part of a package of chicken thighs are in the crock pot and the other part will be baked later - some for dinner and most go right into the freezer for future meals.  Even though there are only two of us now, as opposed to when there were six at the table, I really like to have something in the freezer handy.

Two more afternoons of sewing the binding on a queen-size quilt and that should do it - that will be like two full days of hand work.  I have spent too much time on quilt things this week.

Jacqueline

Not much happening in my world...I did go to a mobility store yesterday and for the first time sample ride three mobility scooters around the block...Choosing the right one for me wont come overnight, cant afford on making the wrong choice, they dont exactly come cheap...
I had to cut the trip short as I was expecting a metal man to come fix a pair of rails, one each side to the concrete steps leading from the decking gate to the pathway which leads to the set of concrete steps to the car...I was given a four hour time slot so timed it to get back by the earliest time just in-case, when we arrived home, metal mans van was already there...He was such a nice man...This pair of metal rails wont cost us anything, but are not nothing pretty to look at...Now looking out the back garden, all I can see is metal rails everywhere...

Hi Everyone. We are to have a sunny day getting into the low 90's this afternoon.  I guess summer is here.  Yesterday was a very busy day.  While Pat was at the doctor's office I made a quick trip to Aldi's.  Her appointment took quite awhile.  Around noon we picked Elizabeth up and she came out and had lunch with us and then went to work and painted the three columns on our front porch, put the bug spray barrier around the outside of the house and did a couple other errands.  I took her home around 3 pm and then at 5 we went back to the Church for dinner.  It was just Pat and I at dinner last evening.  This morning I will pick up my friend and we will go to coffee.  I have to get some money at the ATM and want to stop at the Dollar Tree after I have taken him home to pick up some sunglasses and toothbrushes to donate for our mission team that will head to Bolivia early in June.

Janet, I wonder who picks out the annoying music we hear when put on hold.  I hope you got the ticket situation straightened out.  Elizabeth is a blessing to us.  That is good news on the Zeal front getting the doctor's endorsement.

Judy, nice to read that Spring has arrived in your part of the world.  Forty aches is a lot to deal with.  Glad you got enough sap to make the syrup for you and your family.  Thanks for the hymn posting and the article about the writer of it.

Carol, that sounds like it was quite a feast.  I hope your new phone works out well for you.  Glad Don's appointments at the VA went so well.  I am seeing reports that some officials in Colorado are having some second thoughts about pot and it impact on society and the safety on the road.  Our County newspaper publishes the Police Blotter and another Crime Report daily and I look at them fairly often.  The vast majority of the cases and arrests deal with illegal drugs and DUI's.

Jackie, you are wise to take your time to select your mobility scooter.  Stacey had two of them and then went to the electric wheelchair.  They are expensive over here as well.  The first one she had we bought used but it hadn't been used much.  Glad you are getting the additional metal rails to help keep you safe when you are outside.

Janet

Larry, after a whole hour, half of it on hold, I did get the ticket problem solved.  And the amazing part was, we were listed on the same flight as the rest of the group!  So it won't cost the additional $39 each, after all, plus trying to figure out how to catch up with them in Guatemala!  Then there was a problem with a credit card's expiration date with my new Zeal customer, resulting in ANOTHER hour on the phone getting that resolved.  Her bank had it wrong--she and I had it correct!    So anyway, I do not want to spend two hors on the phone today, for sure!

I had a pleasant day painting--not a whole day, but a few hours.  I was quite tired from the garden work, and needed to be home early to go to Moscow for the two oldest g-grands' school awards night.  They both did quite well!  :)

Our dining chairs are worn out, at least the cushions are!  We've been using them for about 20-25 years already, so it's no surprise.  Anyway, Darrel likes the ones with casters so well, and I could't find them on any of the furniture store sites I checked, but did find the same ones, only improved so we ordered one, to see if we liked it.  We put it together this morning, and it is perfect for an office chair for me!  This solves another very annoying problem, so I'm praising the Lord for that!  And these (this) chair cost not much more than what the upholstery shop quoted us to make new cushions! God is good.  We will probably order six more of them for dining chairs, will wait a few days to be sure that's what we want.  And Darrel got back the chair I'd been using at my desk, making him happy, too!   ;)

Jackie, it's sad but true that the things necessary to keep us safe aren't necessarily always beautiful.  But life is, so we always have reason to rejoice!  Beth's power wheelchair served her well until she could no longer use her hands or sit erect enough in it to use it.  It cost nothing, as Medicare paid for it.

Carol, I wish you a soon finish with your quilt!  I'm not sure I could sew by hand for hours, as my fingers have lost some sensitivity, and I keep dropping the needle.  The last time I wanted to do some embroidery, I had to give it up.   :(  All things in their time, I guess.  I can still hold a paint brush!!  :)

I need to go to town and find a gift for my sister Jeanie, and something to eat for the little party the scrapbooking gals are having for her today.  So I'd best be about it!

The new cell phone is not working - recharging it again.

Janet:  I only know how to paint a room - not any art.  Anything we do as a hobby should be mentally therapeutic - that is my thought.

It was so good to see and hug some of the women yesterday.  They have tremendous family concerns and live with total faith.  I know that we were meant to move to this neighborhood and meet these people.

Liz

Hello from a soggy island!
I have caught up on reading the posts for the past few weeks.  Have been feeling sort of sad as it was necessary to put my dear cat Billy Bob to sleep.  He is the cat who lived next door, fell in love with my cat Misty, and decided to live with us.....After 14 years it is really hard to say goodbye to such a dear companion.  With both Misty and Billy gone, only my daughter's cat Squeek remains.  She lives upstairs with them but comes down to my suite for her food, etc.  Tomorrow she will be 22 yrs. old.  I think that it is her aim in life to outlive me....I am 85.  I had both cremated and they are side by side on a shelf....

With all the requests for folks to post, I decided to come in and say Hi!  I do not do very many interesting things now and have to stay close to home unless with one of the kids.  My GD turned 31 today and we all went out for a lovely lunch in Cowichan Bay at a great restaurant.  It was also to celebrate Mother's Day coming this Sunday.  Amanda was actually born on Mother's Day and I  always say she is the best present I ever got!!

I have been enjoying the hymns very much as we always sang them in  choir and the Baptist churches I attended.  Thank you for posting such interesting things Judy.

Have been doing some watercolours and painting again.  Also doing Acrylics like watercolours.  Have you ever tried that Janet?  My depth perception is pathetic now but find ways to overcome!  If fail, can always say it is an abstract. :-[

Like you Larry, have been having computer problems.  The last Windows update did not sit well with my desktop and I had to resort to a System Restore to get it back on track.  Use my ipad more than the desktop but still like both for different things.  Glad it was not necessary to do a new install as that takes such a long time to resolve things.  I am getting too old for such things >:(

What a sad state our poor world is in.  I am so grateful for having my daughter, SIL and GD.  Looking back over the many years, all the troubles and despair, I realize that God has always been protecting me....even though many times my doubts were almost as strong as my faith.  At this stage in life, my mind keeps playing back so many things like a video on repeat.  One thing that stands out very clearly is that what goes around, comes around.  I wish the world would learn that and change the things that are happening.

So time to close and say God Bless.
Liz

CHANGE NOT THY FAITH WITH CHANGING TIMES

Jacqueline

Oh Liz...
..you took the words straight out of my mouth when you say..." One thing that stands out very clearly is that what goes around, comes around.  I wish the world would learn that and change the things that are happening.." Oh how true, I too am a firm believer in that...

Hi Everyone.  We are in for another summer like day with us again reaching into the low 90's this afternoon.  My schedule is clear today so plan on just taking things slowly and easily.  Yesterday morning was very busy and I came home tired.  We cancelled our plans to go to the shoe store and then out to eat.  Pat baked a loaf of banana nut bread using her Instant Pot for the first time and it turned out very well.  I just had a slice of it with my breakfast this morning.  I do have tentative plans to clean out my closet and bureau drawers.

Janet, glad you had success with your phone calls even if it took two hours.  Glad you stayed with it.  With your great grandchildren being of school age you will have many opportunities to go to school and sports events to see them participate.  Glad you found chairs that you like.  Our dinette chairs have casters and arms on them.  The arms make them much less likely to roll out from under us as we sit down.  We have had them for quite a few years but they have held up well and we use them at our dining room table.  I have never liked the chairs that came with the dining room set.  Sure glad you can still hold on to your paint brushes.

Carol, hope you get your phone to work.  I am like you as have no art ability and marvel at those who do.  You do express your creativity through your quilt making.

Liz, what a pleasure to see your posting and hearing the update on your life.  Sorry you have lost your cat and hope that Squeek will be around for a good long time yet.  Your granddaughter is about 5 years younger than mine.  I hope yours had a very enjoyable birthday.  We would be willing to take our granddaughter out to celebrate hers but she has declined for her own reasons.   Glad you are still able to enjoy your painting.  I hope you have your computer problems resolved.  The iPads are really great little devices.  Mine is getting very outdated but have no plans to replace it as it still works for what I want it to do and actually don't use it very often.  My iPhone has basically replaced using the iPad.  It appears we don't learn much from our past so we keep repeating the same things over and over and expecting to get a different result.  I think that is called a form of insanity.

Jackie, we seem to be of the same mind on "what goes around comes around".  Has Spring arrived in your area.

Janet

Good morning!

Liz, how sweet to have a posting from you!  I've missed ou!  And please don't think your life any less interesting than anyone else's--You have beauty and value in this world, and you have friends here in our cozy little place who love you and are interested in whatever you're doing.  Actually, you are quite active and involved, more than so many your age.  Age is only a number, anyway!  :)  Sorry about your loss of beloved pets.  I don't remember ever hearing of a cat living to be 22 years old!  I know she has had loving, excellent care!  Your granddaughter is 10 years older than my Abby, who will be 21 in July.  I would love to see some of your watercolors! Another nice thing about watercolors--we can crop out the good part and use the rest of the paper for testing colors!  I'm enjoying re-learning how to use them, after many years working in oils.  Yes, I have done a little bit using acrylics like watercolors, that's handy to know, too!  Wish we could spend a few hours painting together!  What a treat that would be!  Also wish you could send some of your rain down here to our parched area of Kansas! And please come in again soon with another update!

Larry, I really need to get our Instant Pot out of its box ad use it!  It's not doing any good sitting under the bench!  I know it's a very versatile and useful appliance, but maybe not while it sits in its box!   :-[

What goes around comes around!!  Syria (and Iran) are learning that in spades by throwing rockets at Israel!  All I know is, we all need to live ready, for Jesus is coming soon!

My sweet young friend just texted me that he needs prayer.  His 16 year old brother passed away last night from a seizure!  He was a step-brother, but still, Dylan feels the loss.  He has such a tender and loving heart.

Ruth Ann, we are missing you, too.  Hope all is well with you!

I wish you all the blessings of our loving Father today!

I lost part of my post so I am starting over.

I have been her to read  your posts from time to time of late without posting myself.  So here I am today. Lize it is so good to see a post from you.

I got an new student in my Tai Chi class today.  Slowly but surely the word is getting out and new people are coming, I have 11 students now. The new lay gave me a wonderful compliment today. She loves the way I teach and doesn't want to go to anther class she has asked me about attending in the afternoon earlier. She prefers to come to my class as the the afternoon class is taught by a different instructor, and is the one I attend. This is Tai chi for Seniors ad is called Tai chi for Better Balance so we aren';t doen't some of the complex movements.

Yesterday Freckles and I went to the Coos bay Head start school to do a presentation of Responsible  pet ownership and Safety. The little ones  mostly love the see the dogs, so the lesson is short then the dogs do some tricks and we tell them about our dogs and let the kids pet them.I always tell them that Freckles is a an Australian Cattle dog also called a Blue Heeler, and  is supposed to head cows and sheep but we don't have any cows or sheep at my house so she herds my 5  cats.

Hi Everyone.  We are in for a very hot day as expect the temperature to reach the upper 90's with no rain sight.  The only highlight from yesterday was that Jennifer stopped by for about 30 minutes.  We hadn't seen her for several days so good to see her.  We got to wish her a happy birthday in person as we won't be seeing her tomorrow.  If Pat is up to doing so we plan on going to breakfast at IHOP and then attend a meeting.  Scott plans to come over briefly to get something before he goes to work this afternoon. This will be plenty for us today.  I plan on watching some of the golf later this afternoon.

Janet, you thoughts to Liz on seeing her posting were right on.  If having something new and interesting to write about each time was the requirement these boards wouldn't last long.  I find a lot of my postings relate to past events in my life, some of which I have probably already written about in the past but that isn't important, it is just the sharing with each other.  I doubt your Instant Pot is going to do much in the way of cooking until it is unboxed.  Pat looked at a lot of videos about cooking in them and has found many recipes telling how to fix things in them.  So sad for Dylan in losing his brother at such a young age.  His life certainly hasn't been easy up to this point.

Jackie, I think Jesus will be wherever we are as long as we have given our life to him and accepted him as our Savior.

Marilyn, it appears your class is flourishing and the word is getting out.  Nice of you to take Freckles to the Head Start School and do a some teaching about pet care.  It is beyond me how anyone would not love a dog.

Janet

Happy Saturday to you all!  It's lovely and cool here right now, but the temp is expected to get to 90* later.

Jackie, Jesus lives in our hearts, if we have invited Him in, but He's also in heaven, at the right hand of the Father, praying for us!  But He has promised to come and call His church up to heaven with the blast of a trumpet and the command, "Come Up Here!"  That's when the dead in Christ shall rise and join us as we fly to meet Him!  So that's what I am looking forward to--flying through the air to meet Him and be escorted to my eternal home in heaven! Oh, what a day that will be!  Can you even imagine it?  And you need not worry about missing His welcoming, for He knows our every coming and going.  When we are His, He is with us every moment of every day!  :) <3

I went to the High School Art Awards ceremony at The Main Artery last night, and was blown away by the amazing talent of the young people! It truly was incredible the subject matter and complexity of their artworks.

I'm taking a little silk painting class from 1-3 this afternoon.  I used to do a lot of silk painting, even taught it, but haven't done any in years, so am doing this just for fun.  It will be a small project.

As soon as I finish this I want to spend time working on my book.  I'm sort of stalled, and want to get moving again!

Marilyn, thanks for posting.  I have missed you!  Always like hearing about your life, Freckles, Tai Chi, etc.  Say hi when you come to read!  Once you've said that, you will likely have more to add!

I signed up another Zeal customer yesterday!

Liz:  How nice to read your note.  We are having a cool morning here just south of Denver,

cool and misty much like your neck of the woods.  Best to you!

Don hung a bird feeder off the deck and he was thinking little birds would enjoy it.  Not so, only the big bullies have taken over and they push seed over the deck.

The news last night is of the plane that crashed by the smaller commuter airport and an engine fell on a house.  I was on our deck trying to see the multi-colored drone that was up to search for any more fatalities.  Those planes never fly over our area - instead, we will get the Air Force Academy ones testing their skills.

Yesterday, our oldest son stopped by from the airport and he was driving to the mountains.  He treated us and one younger brother to a lunch outside and brought a present for me from his wife and him as they cannot be here for the family gathering.

Marilyn

Good afternoon everyone. I am just back from my second walk today with Freckles. I spent a good part of that walk talking with my neighbor about her garden and Keith's health., (she's a nurse and has known Keith since in the 90's she is the same age of  one of his sons.). She has noticed the changes in him and wanted to know what is wrong with him. So I explained the atrophy in his brain and the dementia. She said he will never get better, the atrophy will keep growing and he will keep deteriorating. I knew that, but It helps to come home and tell Keith what she said. He tends  to think I don't know what I am talking about and that is so frustrating.

I think this has been the longest day of my life. No real reason except no one to talk with.  I guess when you have relatives visiting off and on for a couple of weeks, you get so used to it and want it to continue.  The phone rang and the caller did not help my mood at all..."Is Earl there?"  My husband passed away over 6 years ago.  My little Boston Terrier has had several naps, so she has been quiet.  Oh well, tomorrow will be a better day!
This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it. Â  Ps 118:24

Carol

Janice:   Prayers for a better day for you --- tomorrow is Sunday and a perfect reason for you to have a wonderful blessed day.

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone.  We headed for another day of mid-90's.  It was about that hot yesterday.  I did water the yard yesterday morning.  Pat and I went to IHOP and had a delicious breakfast and then to the meeting.  We came home and stayed in where it was nice and cool the rest of the day.  Pat wasn't able to get much sleep last night so is sleeping in this morning and I will attend Church by myself.  Since this is Mother's Day we will not be eating out but will have some roast beef sandwiches.  I fixed Pat a couple of peaches (they are small) and had a couple myself and they were so juicy and good.  I did watch the golf yesterday afternoon and plan on watching the finish of the tournament this afternoon.  It looks like the winner has already been determined as the leader is seven strokes ahead but who knows.  They are playing on a really tough course.

Janet, it sounds like your area of Kansas is blessed with real art talent and apparently good teachers.

Carol, I guess the birds don't know the bird food isn't for them.  I haven't heard about the plane crash.

Marilyn, nice that you could walk with your neighbor and get reassurance about Keith's situation.  One can't blame him for not wanting to accept the situation or think that he can't get better.

Janice, it sounds like you had a decompression day if you have been hosting relatives.  I hope today will be a better day for you.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!
to all the mothers who check in here. Both Darrel's and my mother have passed on, so I try to honor my two daughters and granddaughter in law, for their becoming mothers gave me the joy of being Grandma and great-grandma!

We are going to Hugoton for church, as son in law Jeff is singing, then will go to Liberal for the g-grands' dace recital.  Busy day, what with including Diane's birthday and Mothers' Day in it.

Jentezen Franklin just preached a wonderful sermon for Mothers Day.  Glad I got to hear that one.

It is very misty here this morning.  I pray it will turn into a nice, slow, soaking rain--for maybe three days!  That would be wonderful!

Janice, I pray you have an especially nice Mother's Day, with the company of loved ones, or phone calls--or, better yet--both!

Carol, so nice of your son--I'm sure you raised good people in your household!  Good for you and Don!

Hi, Marilyn!  Yes, I'm sure it's hard for Keith.  I know it would be for me, to think that I wouldn't get better.  I'm sure it's hard to know when to be an encourager and when to try to get him to accept reality.  As the disease progresses, he will need you more and more, even if he seems to be trying to push you away.  At least that's the way it was with my Dad.  And that's really hard for the spouse.  Sorry you're having to deal with this.

See you all later!!

...what a wonderful picture you paint, re, where Jesus lives, where we will find him...or Jesus to find us...I remember the wise words of my late father, although back in my younger days these words often went through one ear and out of the other, although now they come flooding back as if he ( Father ) was here with me, he isn't, been gone 30 years now....His often words were..." dont wish your life away girl, you're a long time dead..."

Hi Everyone.  After a very hot day yesterday it is suppose to only get to 89 this afternoon.  If Pat feels up to it we will finally go to the shoe store and then probably to Honey on the Rock for our main meal of the day. The only thing I did yesterday was to attend Sunday School and Church and then came home as we had food in the refrigerator for our lunch.  On the way home from Church I stopped at CVS and got Pat a Whitman Sampler of chocolates as knew she wouldn't be getting any presents from the kids.  They did send her e-cards and called and she appreciated that on Mother's Day.I did watch the last several hours of the golf tournament.

Janet, you sure did have a busy day yesterday.  Sometimes those recitals can get pretty long but enjoyable when our children or grandchildren are participating.  I do hope you got some rain and will get some more in the next couple of days.  We are suppose to get rain starting tomorrow.

Jackie, sometimes fathers do have something important to leave with their children in terms of what they say.  I do hope today will be a good day and you find enjoyment in its moments.

Just back indoors after visiting a local mobility store...cant believe I have finally made up my mind and chosen it, a mobility scooter...one I test rode the other day, ( different store, 70 miles away, ) not only chosen it but have it home and charging up the battery...I feel I have made the right choice but I would have preferred it if this one had arm rests that came down at the sides..but I was drawn to the fact I could stretch my legs, that they weren't going to be hunched up...The model I have is a Pride Quest travel scooter in the black..which need no parts assembling nor putting back together, just a manual fold - unfold, then it can be wheeled like a suitcase...There are other mobility travel scooters on the market that you press a remote control button and hey presto you stand back and watch it fold up by itself...of course that was what I was hoping to buy...Oh I so hope this will make my life better-improve my get out and about..Oh and not forgetting the store I purchased from comes with an excellent package, and including if one breaks down they come out with another scooter...I hope of course I never have to put them to the test..

We had two days of the children and spouses visiting - treating both of us.  Sunday, it was quiet here.  Today, we will drive to Golden to have a coffee with our granddaughter.  I did finish the everlasting quilt for her.  She is getting ready for her classes at London school of Economics.  The same study as her mother - I had Econ. too but all at the U of Washington and worked full-time as well.

Larry:  Birds are birds and we are happy the clamor out on the deck is over.  So nice that you and Pat are in agreement on taking things easy when you feel the mood.

Jackie:  I hope this scooter is easy for you to handle.

Marilyn:  Perhaps Keith forgets his diagnosis - just thinking back on my mom.

A neighbor stopped by to report a cougar was seen in our ravine.  This has to be the 2nd. report of spotting a cougar in all the years we lived here.  When we lived in the foothills, I could see them often - and 3 at a time.  Creepy.

Don ordered a cell phone and it does not have the "Speaker" function he said he wanted - I notice that the speaker isn't very good either.  Another task.

Prayers for Jerusalem.  Three previous presidents promised to move the US embassy there and this one - for all his craziness - is moving it.  Praying for peace for Israel.

Janet

Good morning!  It's a lovely day in our neighborhood!  Nice and cool, 94% humidity, and a gentle breeze--I'm thankful.

Yesterday got long and tiring, but we are happy to be close enough to this one "branch" of the family to share in their doings.  Of course, the girls looked really cute, and did a good job in their dances.  We noticed several girls who mostly stood and watched the others....maybe they missed a lot of practices. (?)

We went to church with Diane and Jeff, enjoyed his solo, "Satan is a Liar!" and the rest of the service.  Went to their house and gave Diane her birthday gifts ad Jeff a nice monetary appreciation and card for selling the van.  Diane gave me flowers and a card for Mother's Day.  The recital was very long, but we made it!  And I did get a call from youngest daughter in Salina.  So, other than missing Beth, it was a good day.

Jackie, I hope you really enjoy your new scooter and are not disappointed with it in any way!  It should increase your enjoyment of life.

Carol, I'm really proud of Trump for keeping his word!  That shocks a lot of people, as the last president never did that, and it seems not to even be expected any more.

I worked on the book Saturday, and hope to get more done on it today.
Our calendar is getting so full from now to the end of the year!  We will be careful to not pack it so much next year!  (So we say now, anyway.)

Time to get busy!  I do want to watch some of the news coverage of the moving of our embassy to Jerusalem!

A mighty fortress is our God
(Click to hear music)

A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing;
Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great, and, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.

Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing;
Were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God's own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth, His Name, from age to age the same,
And He must win the battle.

And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us:
The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him.

That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him Who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also;
The body they may kill: God's truth abideth still,
His kingdom is forever.

On October 31, 1517 Martin Luther hammered into the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany, his 95 theses against the Roman Catholic Church. Among the things for which Luther became famous:

  • The scriptures to be translated in the common languages of all men
[/list
  • The doctrine of salvation by faith alone
  • The birth of congregational singing
  • The hymn "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" was written by Martin Luther around the time when the term Protestant was first heard. This hymn became the battle cry during the Protestant reformation.

Thank God for men like Martin Luther, John Calvin, Huldreich Zwingli and others who led the way during the reformation and gave us the basis for our evangelical faith.

The hymn, "A Mighty Fortress is Our God," written by Martin Luther, was the battle call for the Protestant Reformation. It is based on Psalm 46. Luther said of music, "After theology, there is nothing that can be placed on a level with music. It drives out the devil and makes people cheerful. It is a gift that God gave to birds and to men. We need to remove hymn singing from the domain of monks and priests and set the laity to singing. By the singing of hymns the laity can publicly express their love to the Almighty God."

I am asking for prayer, This is not to be shared on FB.  I have a medical problem that is causing a lot of pain, and the Dr's are not getting to the bottom of it.  This has been going on for about a year.  Could you please pray that the Dr's have the wisdom to figure out this problem for me? And that God would intervene and give me peace in the meantime.  Thank you.

Jacqueline

Judy...
...I can sure empathise with your now situation...there is nothing worse than medics, consultants etc, etc, not putting a name to it...the constant explaining...You will feel much calmer in yourself once they put a name to your issues, then it can be dealt with, or not...but only then, can you move forward...My prayers are here for all who are in need...

I have a question...
...who is in control of our lives?...what I mean by that is...we have two roads, or cross roads or pathways...it is our choice which path at our cross road we take, not Gods choosing but...we know that each road will have, or lead to a different future...and yet I know it is God who is in control of our future, our ending...not us...
So how much in control of our lives are we? and when in our lives does God take over? of course I know He is always there at our side, or failing that, keeping a watch over us at a distance..

Do you ever wonder how your life would have panned out if you had taken the other road?

Hi Everyone. We expect to have some rain thought out the day and also tomorrow and a nice downpour has just begun.  I expect we will just stay home today and stay in where it is dry with less chance of slipping and falling on a wet surface.  Pat had a rough day with the back pain yesterday so we didn't go out as I had thought we might but just stayed in.  Fortunately we had plenty of left-over spaghetti casserole that combined with a salad made a good dinner meal.  We have a couple of Marie Callendar TV dinners in the freezer that we plan on having for our main meal today.  I will just have a quiet day and will likely do a bit of reading as am into a good book and also a good audio book.

Jackie, I am so happy for you that you now have the scooter to improve your mobility.  They certainly have improved them since Stacey had hers as they didn't fold up like a suitcase.  Don't you already have a ramp at your doorway to get into your garden?  Recently my best friend, who is suffering with Parkinson's got a scooter to use in getting around his new home they are about ready to move into.  I hope you get many years of use from the scooter.  I don't have the answer to your questions about controlling our lives.  Personally, I believe I must ask God daily to take control of my life and open my mind to what he wants.

Carol, I remember having an Economics class in college with an instructor that was considered to difficult.  However, I learned a lot from him and felt he was one of the best professors I had, along with the man who taught Humanities.  Did you move the feeder from your porch?  I hope Don can find the phone he needs.

Janet, nice to read your had a good day on Sunday with all of the activities including the long recital.  Glad your and Darrel are still able to handle a packed calendar.

Judy, thanks for the posting of the hymn and the very interesting and informative background story about Martin Luther.  Judy, so sorry that you are having to deal with the pain.

Carol

Wonderful - so wonderful watching the happiness from Jerusalem last night.  We found a different station that is bible based carried the festivities.  Several Jewish Democrats were there and really did credit Prez. Trump for making that decision.  The important thing to remember is that he was led to make this statement - finally.  He made a promise and kept it.  Praying for security for all.

Judy:  You are in my prayers that the doctors will research your symptoms and find the correct procedure for you!  Prayer for John as he is concerned for you as well.

Larry:  We took the bird feeder away and now watch the birds sit on the deck and look into the space where the feeder was hung.  So funny.  There is an intelligence in the bird brain.

Don has an appointment at the VA - another day of driving in the heavy traffic.  We were so blessed yesterday meeting with granddaughter and not in the heavy hail - it was a foot deep in the area just after we drove through that part.  Hail is so damaging - a few years ago, we had to have two new roofs in the space of only three years.  Talk about high insurance.

Can someone please post the song "Jerusalem" ?

Marilyn

Gilbert and his lady are coming up from Ca Friday night for the weekend, I have been very busy getting the house in order and the spare room. Sonja has som scent allergies so I  amd trying to be careful about that, however I do use Tide with downy and that has an sctong scent. I haven't asked her if that will bother her. I am really glad they have decided to come up for a visit. He told me there had planned to surprise me for Mother's day but she wanted to be home with her two sons.

Anyway I have been here to read and not post. I have been doing one room at a time in  between take Freckles for walks going to Tai Chi and teaching Tai chi as well. Tomorrow and Thursday Freckles and i will be  visiting a residential facility and the hospital.

Judy I am praying for you.

I don't mean to offend anyone, however I would prefer that political statements would be posted elsewhere. I do not feel that politics are appropriate for this forum.

A beautiful morning and rain is in the forecast - that is always welcome.

Marilyn:  I am happy for the people of Israel. The broadcast we watched was all about the celebration in Israel and led by several well-know American pastors.  They all quoted scripture of the love of Jerusalem..  So sorry if you took this as a political statement.

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone.  We had a nice rainy day yesterday and got almost 1 1/2 inches of rain with more forecast for today and throughout the week.  Beyond the normal routine things that have to be done everyday I didn't do anything yesterday.  Today will probably be pretty similar but I decided to try something different in the mornings when all of the morning chores must be done.  I did a few things and began to tire so sat down in my easy chair and worked on my jigsaw puzzles for a few minutes until I felt restored and got up and did some more and repeated the process.  As a result I am not feeling exhausted this morning.  It is not the way I like to work as when I start something I like to see it finished but I may have to change my ways.  Everything got done in the kitchen and I fixed Pat's breakfast and taken care of the dishes.  A little later this morning the tech will be here to do the 3-month check on my oxygen concentrator.  That will only take a few minutes.  This evening I will go to the Church for the Wednesday night dinner and then Scott will come out for a little while.  I never know whether either of the girls will come out.  Tonight we are having chicken and noodles in a casserole as the main dish and that is usually very good.  I will bring a dinner home for Pat unless she decides go to the dinner.

I spent some time yesterday looking at this site:  https://archive.org/ .  It is really interesting as I looked through all of the old radio shows they have archived as well as the audio books of the classics.  The site is titled "The Wayback Machine" and it is a library of  is a non-profit library of millions of free books, movies, software, music, websites, and more.  They apparently have over 300 million webpages saved and accessible.

Carol, I don't think bird are dumb and they certainly have instincts that let them know where to return to after migrating as well as to know where they might find food such as a feeder.  Once again Pat is enjoying seeing the hummingbirds that come to the feeder she has out on the back patio.  I have never heard of hail getting a foot deep.  I take it the hail missed your house and area.  Here is a link to the version of Jerusalem by the Hoopers on one of the Gaither's Homecoming Albums:  https://open.spotify.com/track/0v73dZD2T0yDxNQB1FFHa2?si=lnuNwFTHSMyUynWYq50Upw   I hope this is the one you wanted to hear.

Marilyn, nice to read that Gilbert and his lady will be visiting you for the weekend.  How is his health doing?  This is a nice delayed Mother's Day gift.  Hope you have a good time with Freckles as you share him with others today and tomorrow.

Janet

Good morning!  I was here and read the posts yesterday morning, but didn't post.  This is unusual for me, but I was intent on working on the book!  And I got over 2000 words written.  I was having backache problems so couldn't stay here any longer at my computer.

Jackie:  I am mulling over your questions, and will be answering them soon, as best I can.  But I want to dig into the Word and be sure what I say is what God said about it.  Just wanted you to know your questions aren't being ignored by me.  If you sincerely seek for answers, you will find them!

Carol, I enjoyed the coverage of the moving of our Embassy so much, and am rejoicing with the Israelis!  And I say, "God bless Donald Trump!"  I do believe God set him in this place for this time in our history!

Marilyn, I don't consider mentioning this as "political" but rather, just keeping up with the news in our world.  I really believe we need to stay aware of what is happening in the world around us, as the Word says, "Be wary as serpents and wise as doves."  For Jesus is coming soon!  Please do not be offended, as we are a small family here, and need to respect each other.  When I read things I don't necessarily agree with, I just go on by and ignore them.

Larry, I find I wear out much faster these days, too, and need to take a break more often.  I wonder why?  ;)  It couldn't be the calendar, could it?  I hope you continue to be able to do the things you enjoy.  I want to look at the site of free books, etc., but no time now--this is WEDNESDAY!!  My day to paint!  :)

Wishing you all a happy day!  I thought sure we were going to get rain last night, but it sprinkled for about two minutes and quit. :(  So prayers for rain continue!

Well been out with my new set of wheels, my mobility scooter for the first time..It does take some getting used to what its capabilities are...Well for the first outing, I can sure think of worse places to try it out...we travelled the short distance to the promenade-esplanade overlooking the sea, and it sure felt good getting the sea breeze on my face....I have travelled from one end to the other but only from the road in the car, so this was a real eye opening short outing for me, and what a lovely sight...From the road it is a high long brick wall, there are several slopes from one end to the next, and several in between then its very long travelled and wide pathway stretching what appears to be a few miles...There are a few benches along the way where I sat taking in the sea and the fresh air, only spoilt by me wanting the loo which was at one far end leading towards the entertainment and wider sanded area, once visited the loo, we returned back along the high up walkway but the weather turned to starting drizzle so we never reached the other far end, we had joined in the middle, but I will definitely do the whole one end to the other next time..We took Toby the dog, who many people stopped to make a fuss, I talked to many people, some elderly - middle aged couples strolling together, several people - couples with dog - dogs, there were others like myself on mobility scooter...

Larry Gilbert is my youngest son from Blue Lake close to where I lived before moving to Oregon. His health is very good. YOu were probable thinking of Roger my son who has cancer.
Janet it may be just my own distrust of anything Trump. That makes me cringe when I see or hear his name.  I won't get into any details  here this is not the place for that, but I will say I do think he is not the right person to be the UJSA president. neither was Hillary.

Wow, Jacqueline!  That little 'trip' on your scooter did you a world of good!  Isn't it amazing how just being out in the fresh air and sunshine, visiting with others (and their dogs) can make you feel so much happier and more optimistic?  Good for you!

Today I made a few little corrections on the painting I started last week and thought I had finished yesterday; then did a card with daffodils and a little practice piece with trees and clouds.   :)  My back was still hurting today, and I was blessed to get an appointment with my chiropractor right after painting, then I came home and took a nice nap in my recliner!

Darrel worked outside most of the day, and is exhausted.  We were supposed to go to a meeting tonight at church concerning the Guatemala missions trip we are going on in December.  It started at 6:30, I remembered it at 6:15, and I was already in my pajamas and Darrel was too dirty to go anywhere.  So I called and begged off.  They will fill us in later. We've already paid for our tickets, so they know we are going!

G'Night!

...it got me further than I would have got if relying on my feet and legs but, the only thing I will now be lacking in is exercise...I so envied those seniors who were walking - strolling the whole length...This wont exercise my body, tone up my sagging muscles...I will continue walking on my feet and legs as I can but this does give me a whole new freedom to get out and about and explore...There will of course be limits, as my mobility scooter is not an all terrain, just a traveller...

Hi Everyone.  It is another overcast morning and rain this afternoon is likely.  The same was forecast for yesterday and we ended up with only a light shower.  We had a good meal last night at church and then Scott came out.  We got to chat with one of the great grandchildren for a few minutes.  Today, after coffee, Scott and I are going over to the Target store in Augusta and have our cellphone switched from AT&T to Consumer Cellular.  It is much cheaper and they use the same AT&T towers over the country.  He got my iPhone unlocked and this morning I backed it up onto the computer and then reset it and am now in the process of having it restored from the backup. This will be plenty for one day.

Janet, nice to read you made progress on your book yesterday.  It is hard for us to accept we cannot do what we used to do without it tiring us where it didn't use to do so.  Hope you enjoyed your painting yesterday.

Jackie, so happy you can now get out and get around easily.  Glad you got to visit the seacoast and nice there is a promenade-esplanade you could use to ride on.  I am sure you will soon get comfortable in driving the scooter as like most things a little practice makes a big difference.  I remember Stacey used to go at full speed and when I sat in her scooter and then electric wheel chair I had to go at a low speed to keep control.  I bet Toby really enjoyed the outing.  Thanks for the link as a pictures is worth a lot of words.

Marilyn, it was Roger that I had in mind.  Isn't Gilbert the one who you visit when you go down to California?

Marilyn

Larry yes Gilbert is the one I visit at Christmas and other times during the year, For the last few years it has only been at Christmas,

I had an appointment at 9:40 his morning in Garden City with the eye specialist I saw five months ago in Wichita.  I got a good report!!  She said the Macular Degeneration has not progressed, mine is still the dry kind, it is stable.  That's the best I could hope for, and I am very thankful!  I will see her again in another five months.

In thinking of this doctor, I told Darrel I bet her parents are so proud of her! Lots of parents want their kid to be either a doctor or a lawyer--she is both! She became a lawyer first, then decided she would like being a doctor more, so she became a doctor!

I called Beth's friend Mindi, and she came and had lunch with us.  We had a nice visit.  I love that sweet gal!

The chair we ordered isn't working out well as my office chair; my back has been hurting a lot.  Today we took a black printer cartridge back to Staples, as it doesn't fit the new printer; and with the refund, got another office chair, which was on sale.  The arms are lower and the back higher.  It fits me better, so am hoping it will work out well.  They ordered it, to be delivered to our house, as a chair won't fit in our car.

Jackie, yes, do exercise as much as you are able, for if we don't use it, we lose it!  The Eye doctor told me to "Keep taking your eye vitamins, eat dark leafy greens, stay active, and DO NOT SMOKE!  I'm doing all those things, so pray my eyes serve me well until Jesus calls me home!

Larry, we also use Consumer Cellular, and have been well pleased with it.
When we first got it, we sometimes had trouble, as AT&T hadn't many towers out here, but they have put up more and we haven't had any problems lately.  They are good about warning you if you are nearly out of minutes, and if they can't contact you, just add $10 worth so you don't get hit with a big penalty.

Boy, Mt. Kilauea is really angry and blowing its top!  I cannot imagine living close to such a thing, although I have wanted to see a volcano erupting.  Not up close, thank you! :o

Hi Everyone.  We have another overcast day.  We had rain all morning and most of the afternoon yesterday.  It was just the right kind that soaks into the soil.  I noticed our humidity outside this morning is 97% and we may get more rain today.  This is the day for the housekeeper but nothing else is yet on the schedule.  I am hoping Pat will feel up to going out for our main meal today.  She was feeling better yesterday. I don't plan to do much as am still tired from yesterday.

Yesterday Scott and I went to a Target store to switch our cell phone carrier from AT&T to Consumer Cellular.  The lady was waiting on other people there ahead of us dealing with a problem and we waited probably 30 minutes only to find out she had only 1 sim card and we needed four as were adding four lines.  She called another Target store and they had the four we needed.  So we went to Panda Express for some lunch and then drove about 20 minutes to get to the other Target store.  The tech there wasn't busy and she really knew what she was doing.  We were out of there in 25 or 30 minutes.  She installed the sim card in my phone and it works beautifully.  When we got back to the house Scott put it in his mother's phone and we couldn't get any signal.  I had to lay down and rest as was pretty exhausted but then heard her on the phone.  Apparently it took an hour or so for the service to be established.  So now we both have good phone service for about half the price of what we have been paying.  It uses the same AT&T cell towers so we really notice no difference in quality.

Marilyn, I at least remember about Gilbert correctly.  How are his two children doing?

Janet, that was good news on your eyes.  Keep up the good work.  That doctor has some education.  I hope her parents were well off or she likely has some big education related debts.  Nice the Mindi is keeping up the friendship with you.  I hope your new chair works out for you.  Nice to hear you are happy with Consumer Cellular.  As of last evening Scott and Jennifer were not happy with it but they couldn't get good service with AT&T before although Jennifer could call out from the house but Scott seldom could unless he went outside.  He things it related to there being a lot of trees around his home.  Consumer Cellular is sending them new sim cards that will use the T-Mobile lines and sure hope those work better.  We have the plan with the unlimited minutes of talk and text as Pat talks with her sister a lot almost everyday and they are not short conversations.  The only charge that would go up is if I use too much data but then it is just $5 more to get from 250 Megs to 1 Gig of data.  I don't anticipate using the 250 Megs a month.

Janet

What a difference a day makes!  The office chair we ordered online from Staples yesterday arrived today, and Darrel is busily putting it together!  That was really fast!  I hope it will prove comfortable for me as I need to spend a lot of hours here finishing the book!

Larry, I am trying not be be envious of all that lovely rain you are getting!
The Bible says the rain falls on the just and the unjust, but I wonder, what about the drought?  :) ;)

I just had a lovely lunch with my friend, the judge who read my manuscript thus far.  She said she really enjoyed it and loves the way I write.  That is such an encouragement to me!  Thank you, Lord, for honest friends!

Now we need to get the second armrest on and then I can try out the new chair!!

Larry, Forest and Savannah are doing great, both are working at the same place, One of the  growers in  the area. Forest lives with his girlfriend's parents and Savannah lives with her boyfriend in a 3 Bdrm house very nice. It is his mother's house butg she doesn't live there the kids rent it from her. Steven also works where Savannah does and  at a bagel shop too. Gilbert works for Lincare, installing medical equipment in prople's homes.

Gilbert's house is going into foreclosure  and his divorce won't be final un til hopefully next month. Sarah still has some of her stuff there is is always hanging out in the garage, with the plants she has growing there. You know THAT kind of plants.Gilbert has nothing to do with the plants in the garage.

Janet and Larry:  We just switched to Consumer Cellular.  I find the texting to be a little troublesome and I will just have to keep working on that change.

This week  was a change for me - I went for a blood draw as physical is/was scheduled next week.  My doctor's office would not accept the insurance as there has been a change.  They changed to one insurance that only covers in this state.  I must have all-over coverage and had an oral agreement with my favorite doctor in December for her to keep me on.   Now, there is no call back unless one comes through today - this will work out but sure do dislike having to find another primary care if that happens.

Oldest son and wife are coming for a two-day visit and they plan two suppers out with friends so that is easy.  Tuesday night, the quilting group comes and  the next weekend one DIL arrives.  I think they will leave - according to them - our favorite grand dog for us to play and walk.  Walking the dog will only be in the housing area because---- a cougar was spotted a few days ago.

Update:  I just had a call from my doctor's office and they are keeping me on as a patient.  Such a relief - very very thankful.

Hi Everyone. It is another overcast morning but only a low percentage chance of more rain today.  We did have lightning and thunder last evening with quite a bit of rain.  Yesterday we did go to the shoe store where Pat ordered the shoes she wanted and they should be in after about a week.  We first went to Honey from the Rock Restaurant and had a delicious lunch. I spent the rest of the day resting as was still worn out from the activities on Thursday.  This morning I will go to the fruit stand and get Pat some more fresh strawberries.  I then plan on stopping at Lowe's for an item and then at Aldi for a few things.  Depending on how much energy I have by 10:30 I may go to a meeting before the stops at Lowe's and Aldi's.  That will be it for today.  Pat made some homemade potato soup in the Instant Pot a couple of days ago and that will be our evening meal.  I do plan on watching some of the golf later this afternoon.

Janet, glad you got the new chair and I hope it does the trick for you.  I am hoping our drought is broken.  Our chances for more rain in the next few days is around 20% so am not going to hold my breath.  God will give your area rain when it is his time to do so.  I am not surprised at the comments of the judge about your writing.  I thought your first book was excellent and look forward to this sequel.

Marilyn, I have heard of Lincare.  It sounds like your grandchildren are now out and an now living their own lives and staying busy.  Sorry that Gilbert is losing his house but it will give him new options without the expense and worry of keeping up a property.  I sure wouldn't want "THAT" type of plant growing in my garage although know our homes in the past have sometimes had that item in them unbeknownst to us.

Carol, did you get different phones?  We kept the phones we already have and the texting is just the same as always.  So far everything is fine for Pat and I.  Unfortunately, it is not working for Scott and Jennifer and Consumer Cellular is sending them the SIM Cards for their phones that will use the T-Mobile system rather than the AT&T system.  Neither of them now have phone or text ability but hopefully will have it Monday or Tuesday.  I think it is hard on Jennifer as last month she sent over 10,000 texts.  Glad your doctor's office changed their mind and you can avoid having to find another doctor. Nice you will get to visit with your oldest son and wife and not have to worry about evening meals.

Janet

Happy Saturday, everyone!
I love Saturdays, because I usually don't have to leave the house unless I want to!  All the other days have commitments and obligations, so it's nice to have a day with none of those!

I got another 2000+ words written on the book yesterday, and have a renewed zeal about getting it finished.  Peggy's words of encouragement really gave me a boost--and yours, too, Larry!  Thank you so much.  I'm sitting in my new office chair and I think it's going to be a big help.

Carol, so glad you get to keep your same doctor.  Those changes are surely not fun.  Nice that your kids are visiting, I know you enjoy that!

Marilyn, it doesn't seem possible that those grandkids of yours are old enough to be out o their own already, but I know how time flies for me! And for sure, our kids and grandkids don't always do what we believe they should do.  But we didn't always please our parents, either.  I guess that's part of life.

We got a tiny taste of rain last night--one tenth of an inch.  Praying for more!

I love the verse at the right of this page!

Pat, if you're peeking in, please know that I love you!

Been glued to the tv, watched the wedding..( times like this I am proud to be British..) One thing that was made clear is we all need " LOVE.." think Bishop Michael Curry got that message across...  <3  I had to smile when he broke in saying, " we gotta get y'all married.?  ;D
Well it certainly was a fairy tale book wedding, they even had the perfect weather...  Link to full transcript...

Hi Everyone. We had another nice rain last night and will only get into the low 80's today.  I did accomplish what I set out to do yesterday, i.e., getting strawberries, stopping at Lowe's and then at Aldi's.  By that time I knew I was tired to try to get to the meeting.  I got a couple of ears of fresh sweet corn at the fruit stand so we had that with a big bowl of the potato soup that Pat had made a couple of days ago and it made a great supper along with an ice cream bar each that I had purchased at Aldi's.

Today I will just be going to Sunday School and Church and then will pick up Jennifer and bring her to the house to let me off and she will take the PT Cruiser back so Scott can use it to get to work.  I will probably pick up a Firehouse Sub for our meal of the day. That will be it for today other than to watch the last of the golf tournament today.

Janet, glad you can have a free day to do just what you want without having other commitments or obligations.  It sounds like you are making good progress on your book.  Glad you are happy with your new chair.

Jackie, the Royal Wedding was covered over here on Fox News and probably the other channels as well.  It was a beautiful setting and it appeared that everything went as planned.  I felt for the newlyweds with all of the other obligations they had the rest of the day with the receptions and party.  There were certainly a lot of people lining the roadway.

Carol

Our son and dil have been here three days and she left for the airport at 4:30 AM - he just took the car and is driving back to their cabin in the mountains.  He has two doctor appointments this week - not easy having pneumonia at high altitude.  We wanted to go with him but he said he would be alright.

It is too quiet with them gone and the little dog as well.  I know that just taking the dog for walks isn't for me anymore.  This week is filled with activities - and the quilt group meets as well at my house.  Now there is a total of 9.

Blessings to all.

When we say someone is" blackhearted" we mean they are cruel, wicked, evil..and we stay well away from them, yet their heart is the same colour as ours..when our Lord spoke about the wickedness of the human heart He meant something quite different, something soulish, something of the very internal being of man, the Jews always took things literally.."how can a man be reborn when he is old..can he go back into his mothers womb?"
The rest of the world is just like the Jews, they need to see things before they can believe them.
The true Spiritual life begins when one is truly reborn, the eyes of one's Soul are opened, the Holy Spirit joins with one's own spirit.
A terrific transformation takes place, those who know you think that you have gone mad.
You are never the same again..thank God for it!
You see differently, you live differently, you turn your back on an old sinful life, your desires are all changed, and your hope is now in God, forever. "He only, is my hope and stay."
Jesus Christ our Saviour said," I am the Light of the world, he who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the Light of Life."

" All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give,
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His Presence daily live,

All to Jesus I surrender ,
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken,
Take me Jesus take me now."

He caused me to sing.

Hi Everyone. It is another cloudy morning and we have a good chance of rain this afternoon.  We expect to get only into the low 80's today.  This is the day for our Senior Luncheon at Church.  We have a speaker today who is one of the weather persons on TV.  Pat doesn't plan to attend but I am going and will come home via the Produce Market to pick up some more of the delicous sweet corn.  I have nothing else planned for today,  Yesterday I did call the Insurance company and put Scott on our policy for the PT Cruiser.  We did get the AC fixed on it yesterday to the tune of over $325.  However, still cheaper to do occasional repairs than to buy a different car and this is the most solid car I have ever owned.  It is really too bad they have quit making them.

Carol, so sorry to read that your son has pneumonia.  It sure is hard enough to breath without dealing with such a problem.  A house is very quiet when company leaves.

Judy, thanks for sharing the writing of Chris.  That is a wonderful message.  The hymn "I Surrender All" is one I have sung many times in my life and its background is also inspiring.

Marilyn

Larry you sure are up early. I get up early too. This morning I awoke at 3:45 too early, I tried to get back to sleep but I couldn't

Freckles and I are working the school program 3 days in a row this week. Yesterday, today and tomorrow. This is a busy week for me..

There were only two appointments for me today yet it turned into about 4 hours of sitting in doctor and testing offices. I ended up going to Safeway bakery for tonight's treats for the quilters.  Yesterday, my banana bread flopped - apparently, I must have shut the oven off when I was setting the timer.  It was a nice taste but looked so weird.

Our oldest son has three days of testing for his pneumonia - two trips to Steamboat Springs and the other day to a little clinic. There is snow on the hills but the roads are clear now.

We do have the gift of  Grace-- each and every day of our lives.

Janet

I have read here every day but guess I haven't posted.  Sorry.  Lots going on and I'm having backaches, which really are slowing me down.  :( I have had one adjustment, have another appointment tomorrow, even though it means leaving my painting class early.  I do not want to be in pain all the way to North Platte Nebraska and back this weekend.

This morning I went to the dermatologist to see if I have any more trouble spots.  Nope!   :)  That's good!

We are trying to get everything needed for our mission trip to Guatamala. We will work with all the team members on fund raisers to help those who need help with their expenses to go.  I think there are 12 going besides the leader.  Darrel needs to get a tetanus and a Hepatitis A shot; I've had mine and tetanus was only about a year ago.  They said it needs to be within last five years.

Larry, I sure liked my PT Cruiser.  I'm sorry we let it go.  It was very comfortable to me.

I'm going to get my nails done when I get a call, not sure when that will be, as the gal has another job and will do me after she gets off.

Good to read the posts today, and God bless you all, my friends!

Hi Everyone.  We are suppose to have occasional rain showers or thunderstorms throughout today and tonight but it will get only to 79 degrees. We experienced the same type of weather yesterday.  I plan on staying close to home until late this afternoon when I will go to the Church for our next to last Wednesday night dinner.

I did attend the Senior (Prime Time) luncheon yesterday at noon.  There was a small attendance as the mother of one of the very active Church members passed away on Saturday night and the service was yesterday in another town.  Apparently quite a few of the folks who normally attend went to the funeral to support support Laura and her family.  We had a nice program presented by a young lady who is working at her first TV weather job as the weekend morning broadcaster.  She had some slides and told us a bit about what is involved in forecasting the weather and presenting it on the air.  The meal that followed wasn't one of my favorite as it was an Italian Pasta Salad.  I did not feel well all afternoon and laid down about 7 pm and then actually went to bed around 9 pm.

Marilyn, sometimes I wake up early and can't go back to sleep as I can't seem to turn my mind off.  After a while I decide I might as well get up and do something and that was the case yesterday.  It must be great enjoyment to see the school children respond to Freckles.

Carol, it is very tiring to spend that long waiting to see a doctor or get tests done.  Sorry your banana bread flopped.  The last that Pat made was in the Instant Pot and it came out fine and stayed very moist until it was gone.  One time Pat baked an angel food cake for a special dessert when we were having guests.  It didn't turn out well so she broke it up into small chunks and put Dream Whip or a similar topping on it and served it with a fruit topping.  It was very well received and very delicious, as I remember.  Sure glad your son is taking care of himself and getting the necessary medical attention.

Janet, I take it that your new chair hasn't helped much with your backaches.  I hope your adjustment today brings you relief.  Is this the upcoming weekend for your annual family get together in Nebraska?  It must be quite a job to get everything in order for your mission trip.  Our Church is sending out two teams to different countries and the preparations have been going on for sometime.  I am doubtful I will get the PT Cruiser back and I really don't need it.  I was able to put Scott on our insurance as a driver on the car but since it is being garaged at his home there is a limit of six months I can do that.  We will see what happens then.  I have offered to sell the call to him at that time and agree to pay the costs of insurance and maintenance on it but we will see what the needs are at that time.

Janet

Good morning!  And it's really a good morning here!!  :) :)  We finally got some rain--6 tenths this time!  We are so thankful for that,  The air smells so fresh and clean, and it should really help those who suffer from allergies, as well as bless the crops and gardens!

Larry, you are such a generous person, and God blesses that.  I am praying all the time to be a more generous giver, and God is really helping me in that.
Last week I gave a new recliner chair to our chiropractor, and he is loving it!  ;)

Diane and abby both have appointments this morning here, with the chiropractor.  They will stop by my art class to see me for a few minutes, and of course I'm looking forward to that!  Then I get another adjustment this afternoon after class.  Actually, I have to leave a little early for it.

I'm out of time, have more I want to share, so will be back!

The quilting group met at my house last night and I will have to check when my turn comes again.

I didn't write about the traffic jams yesterday. Total gridlock.

Janet:  How nice of you and Darrel to take the time and really the challenge of going to Guatemala to work.  Is it city or country area?  Prayers for your safety and health.  A soft and gentle rain is a blessing for the crops and fresh air to boot.

We do things differently now and do not get up and go just to miss the heavy traffic.  It is not my style as I have always been an early riser. So -  the Lord must be trying to get me to understand that I cannot control everything - taking time to give a few minutes more of thankfulness - truly grateful.

Janet

Carol, we will be working in the mountains of Guatemala, among a very remote people group, mostly unreached.  We have been warned that it's really tough walking, uphill and very rocky.  So we will bring our walking sticks!

I'm so glad we do not live where the traffic is so bad, not sure either of us could handle that!  Not I, for sure!

I don't want to sit here too long, as it might mess up my back again.  I'm supposed to ice it tonight and tomorrow night.

Was so sweet to get hugs from Abby today.  Love that granddaughter!  She had lunch plans with her Dad, in Liberal, also an eye appointment, so it was a short visit with me!  I hope to have a little time with her after we get home from Nebraska, before she leaves for San Diego.

Jackie, I still want to click on your link and see the royal wedding!

Hi Everyone. After a somewhat rainy day yesterday we ar expecting more of the same this afternoon.  We had a very good dinner at Church last evening with Beef Stroganoff, peas and baby carrots, salad, bread and a chocolate bread pudding.  Pat decided at the last minute that she was up to going to the supper.  We then stopped at Walmart to pick up our online grocery order and didn't even need to get out of the car.  When we got home Scott and Elizabeth, who had been a dinner with us and came on out to the house, carried the groceries in to the kitchen from the car, which I really appreciated as wasn't feeling on top of the world. I have a very light schedule planned for today.

I decided not to attend coffee this morning but do have to make a quick trip to Walmart for a prescription and to pick up a couple of items that the other Walmart were out of yesterday but that we need.  Later this afternoon we plan on going to Ruby Tuesday's for our main meal of the day as they have another buy one-get one entree special and that is really hard to beat.

Janet, glad you all finally got some rain.  That was a very nice gift you gave your chiropractor.  Glad he is able to be back at work.  I bet that was a first for him to have a patient be so generous.  I hope you had a great time at your class yesterday.  I sure hope you and Darrel can handle the rough walking in Guatemala.

Carol, the lack of heavy traffic is something I certainly don't miss living here versus in the Atlanta area.

Good morning!  My phone keeps alerting me that heavy rains have been detected in our area, but it isn't raining here.  More will be welcome!  I had a really quick chat with a friend yesterday, we were saying how we were praising God for the rain, and she said God probably was saying, "Nice to hear from y'all for a change!"   :)  That's likely the case!  (He hears from me very often.)

My back feels so much better today, and I'm thankful for that.

Did I tell you that John is going to Nebraska with us?  It will be good for him to get out of that apartment and be with family, for sure.  He said he knows if Beth were here, she would want to go--and he's right about that!

I have a hair appointment at 9, so am watching the time.  ::)

Talk to you later!

It seems no one has come in to chat while I've been away!

I wanted to let you know that Pat Scott Halbach texted me as we were driving home from Garden a while ago, to tell me she is having the first of two hip replacements in the morning.  She requests prayer cover--and I'm sure we will all be praying for her.  She said she is in shock, as the surgeon canceled someone else's surgery to get her in!  She has been waiting for many months to get that done, and I'm praying all goes better than she even dreams!

Talk to you tomorrow!

Larry, if you haven't already done so, please check your email!

Hi Everyone.  Our morning has started off with rain and it still continues.  We are expecting more late this afternoon with only a small percentage chance until then.  I arose early this morning and realizing I wasn't going to go back to sleep I decided to get up and get busy.  One of the things I did was peel the three peaches we have had ripening on the counter for several days.  I split them with Pat and she will have them with her breakfast.  They were so juicy that I ate mine over the sink.  These South Carolina peaches are really, really good.

We did go to Ruby Tuesdays yesterday afternoon as we had planned for a delicious meal.  Today should be a quiet day and may just stay home all day.  I may make a quick trip to Dollar Tree to see about getting one of those chains that go around your neck that your glasses attach to.  I am constantly having to take my reading glasses out of my pocket and putting them back in my pocket.  If they don't have what I want I will go into the Walmart Pharmacy area at the front of the store and see what they have.

My thoughts and prayers are on Pat Scott Halbach as she undergoes this long awaited first surgery.  It must certainly be an answer to prayer that she has gotten in several months before she expected to.  Let's all keep her in our prayers and thoughts today and in the days ahead as she recovers over the next several months and then has the second surgery for the other hip.  Janet, thanks for letting me know with your email and then your call.

Janet,  I really enjoyed talking with you last evening. I do hope you get some more rain.  Yesterday some of the close by towns around Augusta got a lot of rain but we didn't have any at that time.  It did rain more last evening and is in the forecast for several days.  They are saying they think our drought will be over by the time these rains cease and that is very good news.  Nice to read that your back was feeling better yesterday.  Happy to see that John is going with you all this weekend.

Janet

Good morning!  We are ready to leave for North Platte, Nebraska in a few minutes.  John just called and said he has "a stupid stomach bug" and will not be going with us.  We are truly disappointed about this turn of events, as the trip would really be good for him.  He asked me to reserve a room for him; I did, but when I called to cancel it, they said that since I reserved it on Expedia, I would need to cancel through them.  Well--that is a ripoff!  Don't ever use Expedia or its affiliates!  They say you have to cancel over 24 hours in advance, or there is a 100% cancellation fee!  GRRR! And I used my credit card for John's room.  I guess there will be a dispute on the card billing; I don't know what else to do.  Expedia doesn't have a phone number anywhere that I can find! Sorry; thanks for letting me vent!  I will stop and pray, and thus regain my normal good humor!  ;) :)

Larry, I was delighted to hear your pleasant voice last night; and do so want to come visit you and Pat.  I think we are about done with our world traveling, and will just travel within the US after this year.  Unless Darrel agrees to go to Iceland!  That's on my bucket list!  ;)  Maybe I will call you occasionally--earlier in the day--just to chat a bit; if you don't mind.

I must get my stuff in the car!  See you when we get home!

Love to you all, Janet

Prayed for Pat S H and her hip replacement.  So sorry that she has had such a long delay as all I have heard about hip surgery is that it is much easier than knee surgery.  Having had neither, yet - I am not an expert.  So glad that she will have the surgery and recovery now!

Janet:  Have a safe trip to Nebraska.  Lots of traffic on the roads now.

Huge Kindle problems and my old iPad has not worked for months so I am trying to boot it up.  I have an appointment with my doctor for my physical today at no charge.   I had the appointment before the office changed to another insurance (that did not include coverage out-of-state.  Doc is so sweet and I must get other coverage - working on that problem.  Don made a pen for her so I will give that away today.

Drive safely!

Hi Everyone.  We had another rainy day yesterday and expect more rain today.  The lawnkeepers haven't been able to take care of the lawns this week as it has been so wet and the yards have really grown as they do this time of the year.  I plan on picking up a prescription at Walmart this morning, stopping by the fruit stand for more strawberries, sweet corn and peaches and then if I still have any energy left I will go to a meeting.  I plan on watching the golf match later this afternoon.

Janet, sorry to read that John isn't going to be able to make the trip with you.  I have found that it generally is as good just to call the hotel/motel for the reservations.  It does sound like you are being taken as I expect the room will be rented to someone else.  I sure hope you and Darrel will be able to make it to South Carolina and visit with us.

Carol, I thought about Pat Scott Halbach many times yesterday.  My wife did find the hip replacement easier than the knee surgery. Sorry to see you still face the health insurance problem.

JudyB

I was talking to Pat this AM, she is doing well.  She was up during the night to go to the washroom, and is in much less pain with her left side than she has been in for some time. Except for getting up to the washroom she slept through the whole night. The weight of the bedding was too heavy however that is an easy remedy.  She said the pain was like a dull headache.  Now comes rehab.  There was talk of her going to a rehab facility for about 6 weeks, that will be good as she is alone at home.
Thank you everyone for praying. Please continue to pray for continued strength and rest.

Larry Hanna

Judy, I was hoping you would give us a report on Pat.  Glad to read she is doing OK and recognizes less pain than she has been experiencing.  It sounds like rehab is where she will need to be and they can do some great things in that length of time.

Ruth Ann Bice

Hi, friends,

I've spent hours trying to get caught up with the conversations.

It's really good to hear from you.  My sister in law finally is scheduled to leave the rehab facility on June 6.

I've had several doctor visits, and have several more coming up.

Y'all have a good Sunday.

Hi Everyone.  We actually start the morning with some sunshine.  It is suppose to get to 81 degrees today and around 5 pm on thought the evening the chances of thunderstorms increase.  I did not feel up to par yesterday and even though I had a very good nights sleep last night after going to bed at 8 pm I am already pretty worn down.  So I am not going to go to Sunday School and Church this morning.  I do have to make a quick trip to the grocery store for an Angel Food cake mix.  Pat tried to fix one yesterday in the Instant Pot as she had gotten a special Angel Food cake pan to use.  However, it turned out a disaster and very flat so she wants to fix one in the oven.  Today is Elizabeth's birthday and she and Jennifer will be out late this afternoon for a little surprise party for her 20th birthday.  We will have cake and strawberries and I don't know yet whether Pat is going to try to fix a meal but I hope not.  Other than that I just plan to rest today.

Ruth Ann, nice to see your posting and to learn that your sister-in-law has been given a date to leave the rehab facility.  She has certainly been there a long time.

Janet

Oh, how happy I am to read a good report on our Pat!  Thank you, Judy, for the update!  Maybe this is the beginning of her reclaiming her life after such a long time of pain and disability!  Praise You, Father God!!

We left the celebration a little early yesterday--it was wonderful and well-attended--but we wanted to get home last night, so we can go to Hugoton this morning to church, as they are "commissioning" Abby for her mission this summer.  We didn't know it was going to be happening, until Diane called me as we were driving to Nebraska.  God is good!

I know Darrel and I will not reach the milestone of being married for 60 years, and that's okay.  I'm happy for my sister and brother-in-law.  That is a testimony to the keeping power of our God, and the determination of a couple to obey the Word, and the results are obvious in their lives and the lives of their family.  :) :)

We are ready to go to church, see you later!

Yesterday, I chatted with our good friend here - her husband passed this last winter.  She is doing well and just needs help with a few things.  She had hand surgery last year and still it cannot function all the way so she needs help sometimes with simple things.  We talked over iced tea for 3 hours.

My knees are painful upon rising from a chair, etc.  My doctor showed me 3 exercises to practice several times a day as the problem isn't arthritis but tendons.  Such a practical doc, I will miss her - she wants to meet for coffee sometime.

Ruth Ann:  nice to read your note about your SIL recuperating.

Judy:  We all appreciate your news on Pat and don't forget to include yourselves.  Growing older sure changes a lot in our lives - it isn't easy.

Larry:  That Instant Pot sounds interesting.  Low carb recipes would interest me.

Carol

Forgot to mention that I told my doc every time I drink too much coffee, I have a pain in my side and I said, I know what you are going to say.  Stop drinking too much coffee.   :coffee:

Hi Everyone on this Memorial Day.  I think we have had rain all nigh and this morning it is still raining.  Our county, along with several others nearby in Georgia and South Carolina have been under a flood watch but it is being lifted shortly although more rain is forecast for different times throughout the day.  I have nothing particular planned for today but will probably finish an ebook I have been reading and just take things easy.  We did have a nice little birthday party for Elizabeth yesterday afternoon and then she, Jennifer and Pat played Farkle for a couple of hours.  I think Elizabeth was surprised and pleased with the fresh strawberries, cake, ice cream and toppings.  She enjoyed a second helping.

Janet, it sounds like you had a very nice weekend and the commissioning of Abbey was an important event.  I know our Church did that yesterday for the two missionary teams who will leave in eary June, although it may be next Sunday.  I missed going to Church yesterday for the first time in a long time but just wasn't feeling up to doing so.  I do feel better this morning.  I am hopeful that Pat and I will be able to reach the 60 years of marriage as that is just a little over four years from now.  Was this the reason for your trip to Nebraska to help celebrate this hallmark for your sister and BIL?

Carol, it sounds like your friend needed someone to talk with and she must be easy to walk with.  You must have a special relationship with your doctor and such a shame she cannot continue to treat you.  I agree wholeheartedly with your statement about growing older changing a lot of things. Pat and I struggle sometimes just to do the necessary things in the day but so far we are making it.  Do a web search for low carb recipes using the Instant Pot and I bet you will be surprised how many recipes you will find.  The Angel Food cake is the only thing she has made in it that didn't turn out well.  I did buy an already prepared one at Walmart yesterday morning and it served the purpose very well and was pretty good and saved Pat the work of fixing it.

Janet

Yes, Larry, that was the reason for going to Nebraska.  60 years is quite a landmark anniversary, and we wanted to be there for them.  I pray you and Pat do make that mark!

It clouded up, thundered and got dark yesterday afternoon, but no rain at all.  :(  We will keep praying!  We noticed yesterday that some of the wheat in our area is beginning to ripen!

John met me out at the cemetery, stayed for the Veterans' program, then went to lunch with me, Diane and Abby.  Now he is here for a while.  Good for him to get out and about.  He was sick for 3 or 4 days; seems better now.

This first Memorial Day since Beth passed away is tough.  I still miss her every day.  But I know she is happy and free--and whole--in heaven and that I will see her again.

I plan to work on the book some more; got 1300 words done yesterday; I believe I'm to about 125 pages now.

See you all tomorrow!

I was talking to Pat this morning.  We had to cut it short as we were at a medical appointment.  The doctors are talking about releasing her in 2 - 3 days.  Unfortunately she will need to go home as there are no openings in any rehab facility in Guelph or the surrounding areas.  She is concerned as she feels she cannot do what she needs to at home.  If she could afford it there are facilities that could take her but they charge $100 a day so for the month it would be $3000, and that is unmanageable for most people.

Please continue to keep her in prayer, that she will be at peace with the decisions that need to be made, and wisdom for the people making those decisions.

Thank you

Janet

Father God, I lift my sister Pat to You right now.
You know her every need, far better than she or any of us does.  I pray that a way will be made for her to enter a rehab facility in her city, by Your mighty power, and that she will receive the help she needs to recover from the hip replacement.  You know the end from the beginning, and You, Lord can do anything!  You tell us to ask, seek and knock!  So for Pat, right now, today, I ask these things, seek Your perfect will in her life and knock on the door of opportunity for her to receive the placement and the help she needs.  Trusting in Your Mighty Name, Jesus, Amen

Hi Everyone.  We have another overcast morning but no rain in the forecast until this afternoon.  My gauge says we have had 2 inches in the last two days and more on the way.  Flooding is now the problem in some counties around the Augusta area.  Our big activity for today is to get Pat to the dentist for the semi-annual cleaning at 10 am.  Then if her new shoes are ready we will stop and pick them up.  Then we may go out for lunch.  I do need to empty the ice bin in the freezer and also grind up some more cheddar cheese.  That will be it for today.

Janet, with the lack of rain will you have much of a wheat crop there in Kansas.  Glad to read that John is feeling better and was able to participate with you yesterday at the cemetery and then go to lunch with you all.  It sounds like you are coming right along on your book.

Judy, it sounds like Pat is doing well but sad she cannot go to the rehab as it will be very difficult for her to manage by herself at home.  Is there anyway that she could hire someone to come in a couple of hours each day to help her out and see that she has meals?  Thanks for keeping us advised.

Janet, I certainly join in your powerful prayer for Pat.

Carol

Judy:  Prayers for Pat - that she will receive the proper therapy for healing.  Perhaps, volunteers can learn to help in some way?

Carol

Larry:  The one good idea behind the Instant Pot is that it would save electricity by cooking so fast.

Janet:  Good wishes on your up and coming new book. Beth's story will inspire many people.

WE GOT AN INCH AND A HALF OF RAIN LAST NIGHT!!!  PRAISE THE LORD!!

We made a really quick trip to Amarillo and back today; left at 7:30 and got home at 6!  We needed to check on Darrel's brother-in-law, as he hasn't been answering his phone; and also on my nephew, who is hospitalized with a brain bleed which caused a stroke.  We found both of them doing well.  Norman has bad eye problems, is almost blind in his left eye, but otherwise seems to be managing pretty well since his wife, Darrel's only sister,Dolores passed away.  She died in January, after Beth died in December.  And Nephew Jess is doing rehab, and I could understand most of what he said (that has been a problem), was eating, did really well with that; then his therapist came to take him for another therapy session. He's very unsteady on his feet, and weak on his left side. It was good we went; they know we care!  The only other thing we did was get some half off flowers for next Memorial day!

I was hoping there was another report on Pat--will keep praying!

Thanks, Carol.  I pray the book will glorify God; honor Beth's life, and bless many!  I got another 1200 words done yesterday.  I'm up to the end of October in the timeline.

Hi Everyone.  It is another overcast morning.  After quite a bit of rain yesterday afternoon the chances are only about 20% for more rain today and we are to have a high of 83.  Pat's dental cleaning went well yesterday with no new cavities to be filled, which is always what you want to hear.  We did learn that in a few weeks our dentist will be moving his office and consolidating with his father's practice in another part of the Augusta area.  On the way back home we stopped at the Costco gas station to fill the tank and then went on over to our local Walmart as Pat needed some cosmetics.  We then went to the Daily Queen, which is on an out parcel where Walmart is and that their $5 lunch special.  We enjoyed a quiet leisurely lunch and then we didn't have to worry about dinner last evening as it was a big meal.

I got up about 6 am this morning and showered and then partially dressed and laid back down and read my emails, devotionals, and the new postings in the discussions I follow each day.  About 7 I decided I was ready to get up but as I started to put on my shirt I thought this would be a good day to finally clean out my closet and other clothes so before putting on my shirt for the day I went into the closet and checked out what clothes I wanted to dispense with.  Pat wants some of my discarded shirts for the fabric so she will get what she wants and the rest I will donate.  I still need to go through my bureau drawers and dispense with what I no longer wear or need.  I will do that later this morning.

Yesterday afternoon I had a call from my lung doctor's office asking if I could come in this afternoon for my appointment rather than in June. It was originally scheduled for May but they had rescheduled it.  They apparently had some cancellations this afternoon.  So I will do that at 3 pm and that will get that done for another year.  This evening at 5:30 we have our last Wednesday night dinner at the Church.  The menu is hamburgers and hot dogs with coleslaw and chili , French fries & sweet potato fries and all the trimmings and dessert.  It is a special occasion as we will be having a Roast & Toast for our current Associate Pastor, which will be leaving in June to become Pastor of two small Churches in another part of the State. Scott and perhaps Elizabeth will be coming out to the house afterwards to spend a couple of hours.  So it will be a relatively busy day.

Carol, as I mentioned earlier Pat fixed ribs in the Instant Pot and it took 23 minutes are the steam was up.  We then took them out and put on BBQ sauce and put them under the oven grill for a couple of minutes.  The meat easily came off of the bones as we ate it and it was very tasty.  In the past she has slow baked them in the over for several hours.

Janet, glad your area finally got some good rain.  That was a long day on the road to Amarillo and back today.  Glad Darrel's brother seemed OK but the brain bleed and stroke for the nephew isn't good.  Hopefully he will have a good amount of recovery from the stroke.  I did see the picture of Beth's gravestone you posted on Facebook.  It certainly is a very nice looking marker.

Carol

Three friends and I are going to visit the Fort Logan cemetery this morning.  All have husbands buried there and I have wanted to see the graves.  Friday, we will meet at a neighbor's house with a few other ladies for a luncheon and to celebrate a birthday.  So privileged to know these wonderful women.

Yesterday was earmarked for the VA (the new one being built is already 2 years behind schedule and massively overpriced) - Don had two appointments and all went very well.  With the uptick in traffic (leave now, please) we managed but it is really a crisis.  There is no way emergency can get through this city as fast as they should.  We stopped at Perkins for a late breakfast - I brought the blueberry muffin home for dessert.  We walked the neighborhood and, of course, were caught up in conversation.  Mainly about the new pastor and all the changes he made by firing staff and bringing in his friends from Chicago.  Quite a change.

Larry:  Is Pat making a quilt with your shirt fabric?  I was wondering how you would fix ribs in the pot - that sounds like a good plan.

Marilyn

I am going to the dr this morning for my annual exam. I had the blood work done last week.

Keith got up at 4:45am to go outside an check on the old cat from next door who has been living under one of the Azalea  bushes under the family room window. He keeps wanting to bring her in the house but I worry that  the other cats will bother her too much.  When we go to Sunriver next week  the person who feeds our cats will be feeding her too. I feel so sorry for the old girl she has a huge mat on her back that is amlmost half the length of her back and  is raised up about 1.5 inches of solid matted fur.

I do come to read every day but really don't have much to say. I hope everyon e is doing well and that Pat will be able to get into a rehab place instead of going to her home without any help.

Hello all, I am sitting in my entryway waiting for my delivered lunch to arrive. It's all enclosed, but with huge glass windows, and the storm door has glass panels. I have 2 huge plants in here that are thriving here.  I love sitting out here, especially the rocking chair, which was built by my grandfather.  He was so talented in building things, even violins!
Janet, I was in Amarillo yesterday too!  I got another injection in my right eye.  Have to go back in a month for checkup. My daughter drives me to my doctor appointments. Even local ones.  My hearing is so poor, I need her to be my hearing expert.
Lunch just arrived, time to partake while it is still hot, or at least warm.
This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it. Â  Ps 118:24

Well here I am again ?. poking my head in to let y'all know I'm still ticking ? Like that Timex commercial of the past --- "takes a licking and keeps on ticking"  ;D

I just came from my appointment with the oncologist and I'm good to go for another 6 months.  I'm leaving tomorrow for California.  This time I'll be taking Amtrak because I just don't feel like driving down and back.  I always have my daughter drive when I'm there anyway, so no sense having an extra car (or renting one like I did last time I was there).

Two of my great grandkids are graduating from high school and another two are having birthdays so they figure I need to be there!  There's a BBQ scheduled for Saturday for the graduates and I'm not sure what else will take place for the birthday girls.

I'm hoping I can get in touch with my grandsons (Jean's boys) because they always seem to be busy or out of town or something else ....  of course I never see her girls. In fact, one of them has blocked everyone (especially me) and is trying to be invisible.  That's okay.  And Bryan has just about disappeared as well.  John has sold his house in Twain Harte, and is moving to Missouri where he is building himself a little house.  He told me Bryan was planning to move to L.A. but I have no idea if we haven't been in touch since Joy's memorial service in September, 2016.

I've been praying for Pat, and each of the needs represented here.  I know there are many but we serve a big God and, as my grandson said once: "God's got big hands!"

Y'all take care, now and I will be checking back in from time to time.   <3
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Janet

I really enjoyed painting today!  Finished a bigger watercolor, and then did a card.  Tracy is trying to get us to 'loosen up' and just start painting, without any kind of drawing or sketching.  It was fun!

Larry, the way you described starting in or your closet sounds like the way I usually do things--completely spur-of-the-moment!  My closet is so overstuffed I really need to purge it!  I did the drawers not too long ago, so they're good for a while.

Janice, I thought about you yesterday and wondered if maybe you were in Amarillo, too!  Wish I had known where to find you--I would surely have tried!  Glad you get your main meal delivered; that's such a nice service.
Do they usually taste pretty good?

Marilyn, hello!  Good to see you pop your head in the door to say hello!

Carol, I don't even want to drive in Amarillo; for sure I couldn't (wouldn't) drive in the Denver area!  It's so sad how they are ruining things there by all the heavy traffic, plus the legalized sale of pot!
Glad you have good friends near you so you can have those pleasant visits!

Jane!!  Good to see you!!  I'll bet it doesn't feel possible to you for your great-grands to be graduating, does it?  Your trip to California by Amtrack sounds much less stressful than driving!  (To me, anyway)  My eyes will not allow me to drive at night, and I no longer enjoy driving in the daytime.  But driving here in our little town is fine, I can do that.

Jane, if you look in, please update us on Pat.  Thank you!

And Jackie, where are you hiding?  Touring around on that new scooter?  :)

'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus
(Click to hear music)

Author:  Louisa M. R. Stead, 19th Century
Musician:  William J. Kirkpatrick, 1838-1921

'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
And to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise,
And to know, "Thus says the Lord!"

Refrain
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I've proved Him o'er and o'er
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more!

O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
And in simple faith to plunge me
Neath the healing, cleansing flood!

Refrain

Yes, 'tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.

Refrain

I'm so glad I learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.

"'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus"
by Louisa M. R. Stead
The United Methodist Hymnal, No. 462

From her childhood, the call to missionary service was the guiding motivation for Louisa M. R. Stead (c. 1850-1917). Born in Dover, England, and converted at the age of nine, Stead came to the United States in 1871, living in Cincinnati. She attended a camp meeting in Urbana, Ohio, where she dedicated her life to missionary service. Ill health prevented her from serving initially. She married in 1875, and the couple had a daughter, Lily. Hymnologist Kenneth Osbeck describes a major turning point in the family?s life:

?When the child was four years of age, the family decided one day to enjoy the sunny beach at Long Island Sound, New York. While eating their picnic lunch, they suddenly heard cries of help and spotted a drowning boy in the sea. Mr. Stead charged into the water. As often happens, however, the struggling boy pulled his rescuer under water with him, and both drowned before the terrified eyes of wife and daughter. Out of her ?why?? struggle with God during the ensuing days glowed these meaningful words from the soul of Louisa Stead.?

The hymn, Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus? was inspired by this personal tragedy.

Soon after, Lousia and Lily left for the Cape Colony, South Africa, where Louisa worked as a missionary for fifteen years. She married Robert Wodehouse, a native of South Africa. Because of her health, the family found it necessary to return to the United States in 1895. Wodehouse pastored a Methodist congregation during these years until, in 1900, they returned to the mission field, this time to the Methodist mission station at Umtali, Southern Rhodesia (present day Zimbabwe).

Kenneth Osbeck records a message sent back to the United States shortly after her arrival in Southern Rhodesia:

?In connection with the whole mission there are glorious possibilities, but one cannot, in the face of the peculiar difficulties, help but say, ?Who is sufficient for these things?? But with simple confidence and trust we may and do say, ?Our sufficiency is of God.??

Her daughter Lily married after their return to Africa. Louisa retired because of ill health in 1911. Lily continued to serve for many years in South Rhodesia. Her mother passed away after a long illness in 1917 at her home in Penkridge near the Mutambara Mission, fifty miles from Umtali. Following her death, it was recorded that Christians in South Rhodesia continued to sing her hymn in the local Shona language.

While the exact date of the composition is not known, sometime between 1880-1882, Lousia Stead?s hymn was first published in Songs of Triumph (1882). The Rev. Carlton R., Young, editor of The United Methodist Hymnal, describes the hymn?s content as ?a series of loosely connected key evangelical words and phrases.? Indeed, the hymn is full of the language of piety common to the day in evangelical circles. Furthermore, the succession of stanzas lacks the usual progression of ideas leading to heaven that characterizes most gospel hymns.

Perhaps the hymn might be best described as a mantra on the name of Jesus. Indeed, ?Jesus? is sung twenty-five times if one sings all four stanzas and the refrain. Stanza one is a simple statement of ?trust in Jesus.? The singer is invited to ?rest upon his promise.? Though the ?promise? is not specifically articulated, it is assumed that all know that this is the promise of salvation. The stanza ends with ?Thus saith the Lord? ? a phrase, interestingly enough, that appears 413 times in the Old Testament in the King James Version, and is a reference to God rather than Jesus.

Stanza two continues the theme of trust, drawing upon the ?cleansing blood? of Jesus. The poet demonstrates her trust as she ?plung[es] . . . neath the healing, cleansing flood,? a possible reference to the William Cowper (1731-1800) hymn, ?There is a fountain filled with blood?: ?. . . and sinners plunge beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.? The typology of the cleansing flood may find its biblical roots in Genesis 6-7, the account of Noah and the great flood, or perhaps the blood and water that flowed from the crucified Christ?s side (John 19:34), or even a conflation of these ideas. Cowper?s hymn was probably well known to Stead, and she referenced it in her hymn.

Stanza three stresses that one should die to ?sin and self? by ?simply taking life and rest, and joy and peace? in Jesus. Stanza four is a personal witness by the author that she is ?so glad I learned to trust thee.? The final stanza concludes with a fleeting eschatological reference, ?thou art with me, wilt be with me to the end.? Though this reference to heaven is not as pronounced as one would often find in similar gospel hymns of this era, especially in Fanny Crosby. Referencing heaven in some way is virtually obligatory in this theological context.

The refrain establishes the Jesus mantra, singing his name five times, the last strengthened by adding the qualifying, ?precious Jesus.? Though the singer has ?proved him o?er and o?er,? the prayer is for ?grace to trust him more.?

Hi Everyone. We are headed to around 87 degrees this afternoon with only a less than 50% chance of rain throughout the day and evening.  Nothing planned for today other than to pick up my friend at the retirement home and we will go to coffee for about an hour.  I do need to get a loaf of bread at the Walmart near to where he lives and may try to do that before we go to coffee.

I did get in to see the lung doctor yesterday.  I didn't have to take the breathing test as I had the two previous years I have seen this doctor.  She did suggest that I get a 50 ft. tube and use the oxygen a couple of times a day and walk in our home.  I stopped at the medical supply store and they gave me the hose I needed but not the cannula piece that I would need to use it.  So I went back to the store before going to the Church for dinner and got hopefully what I need.  I will test it out today.  Fortunately, our home has a fairly long hallway that I can use for walking.  We are planning on having a repeat of the ribs, coleslaw and fresh sweet corn for our dinner this evening.  I have already set the table for the evening as I emptied the dish washer.  No sense in putting those items in the cabinets and then taking them out again.  I am waiting for Pat to get up and will likely then fix her breakfast.

Carol, I have to wonder if that new VA Hospital out your way will ever get built.   Glad that Don's appointments went well. It sounds like you have a nice day planned for tomorrow with your neighbor ladies.  It has been years since we have eaten at a Perkins as we have none close by.  Your new pastor sounds a bit like a football coach in firing old staff and bringing in new.

Marilyn, if you annual exam is anything like what we are having around here it is mainly talking with the doctor and him looking over the blood work results.  Apparently the doctors have decided the actually examining the patient was a waste of their time.  I have to wonder how much insurance companies influenced this decision.  It sounds like Keith has a weak spot for the cat.  Do you have more visits with Freckles scheduled for this coming week?  How many are you having in your Tai Chi class now as the last you spoke of it you said you were up to around 12 people.

Janice, your entryway sounds great.  We had a sunroom in the home we owned in Missouri for nine years.  It had windows that could be rolled out and back in and was a room we used for our dinette set and it had it own heater but not A/C so couldn't use it on hot days.  I bet you are glad to have that monthly trip for the eye shot over for another few weeks.  Do you get meals on wheels?

Jane, glad you got a good report from your oncologist.  I hope your trip to California is enjoyable on Amtrak and that you have a nice visit.  I bet your great grandkids  will be happy to have you there for the graduation and birthday parties.

Janet, you are such a fine artist I bet your "loosened up" painting is great.  I had been planning on cleaning out my clothes for sometime but it was an easy thing to put off until tomorrow.

Judy, thanks for the hymn posting and the interesting story related to it.  Is Pat still in the hospital?

Carol

I cannot find the papers showing my search for a new doctor - it has to be in another file.  Good day to all!  A young deer was spotted taking a nap on the front lawn a block away.  We have not seen them this year and now do not hear the coyotes in the ravine.  It is quiet.  Oldest son was at his desk in the mountains and a huge moose walked right by the window - such a gift to see wildlife.

Jane:  So good to hear from you.  Have a wonderful visit.

Larry: My 3 friends are widows - another gal was missing but we will meet for lunch on Friday and I only have to bring  a salad.  Our heat is up in your temperatures too.  There are the typical afternoon showers now so we just plan around the weather.  The poor planning of the VA is such a shame.  The staff is considerate and kind - I can't say enough good things about them.

Our oldest son stays overnights here so often that he wants to change out the bed - it is pretty old.  We say - go ahead, why not be more comfortable.  He is too tall to sleep on the newer trundle bed in the same room.

Hi Pat!  I hope you find relief from your pain and get into rehab.  Blessings to you.

Well, I made it back in here this morning ?. I'm all ready to leave home but the bus to Eugene doesn't leave until 12:30 p.m. so I need to possess my soul in patience.  Nita is coming over to get me to the bus.  Amtrak has a bus from Coos Bay to the station in Eugene. They called me the other day to let me know I will also be on a bus from Eugene to Klamath Falls ? seems there's work being done on the tracks in that area.  I can handle that.

Janet, I have a great grandson who has already graduated from college!  Tomorrow his younger brother graduates from high school.  Yes, that really does boggle my brain!

All y'all take care now, and I'll be ba-a-a-ck

Larry My exam went well. Yes she does do an exam,  and listens to what I have to say. My cholesterol was up from 186 last year to 209 this year. A1C was 5.7 she said that was pre diabetic but to change my diet alot less fat  and I should be down in 6 months when I go back. she is ordering a mammo, Dexa scan, and either an MRI or X rays of my left knee and hip. She seems to think that one of those is what is causing the knee and hip pain.

I don't have any visits with Freckles until next week then there are two. We leave for Sunriver on the 9th to return on the 17 and she is going with us. She goes to the vet today for her shots and yearly exam.

Keith is definitely a cat person, We now have had 4 cats move over from next door. two live with us, one died in my arms and this poor little kitty. We also have our three.  Actually one of them, is mine that I got from Snipped when they were going to put him down because he has leukemia, I have had him for 5 years and he is still going strong, he is about 15 yrs old now.

I have a a couple more people sign up for my Tai Chi class but they don't all come at the same time. Tuesday I had  3 students. We did everything is very slo0w motion just for fun.

Janet, I was at the large building housing a number of eye doctors with different specialties on Wallace St.  Just a few blocks from the hospital on Coulter Street.  I can't remember the name of that hospital, but have been in it several times.  My husband was a patient there more than once.

Larry, yes, I get lunch meals delivered from Senior Meals, they will deliver to shut- ins if needed. I can drive, but seldom do so, my dtr drives me to appointments etc.
This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it. Â  Ps 118:24

Hi Everyone.  We have a sunny morning today and are headed into the low 90's before the day is over.  Today is the day for the housekeeper and we plan to go pick up Pat's new shoes, that have finally come in, and then get our main meal out.  Yesterday the yard folks were finally able to mow and trim the yards and they now look very nice whereas they had been looking pretty shabby. Nothing else on the schedule for today and I am glad.

Carol, it can be so aggravating to know we have something and not be able to find it.  Yesterday I heard on the news that we have had rain 17 of the last 18 days and also that our drought is officially over, which is good news.  There is just a low probability of any more rain today.  It is nice that your son is willing to change out the bed.

Jane, sure hope you have a good bus/train ride on your trip. I will have two great grandchildren in high school next year.  The one is already in high school.  The third one will be in the 7th or 8th grade next year--I can't keep track of them as the time goes so quickly.  I look forward to hearing about your trip when you get back.

Marilyn, glad your exam went well.  The last two physical exams I have had the only touching that was done was to check my heart and lungs.  My father controlled his pre-diabetic condition with diet until he was last hospitalized and they started giving him insulin.  It sounds like you have a good doctor. Wow, that is a lot of cats.  One was enough for us.

Janice, glad you are able to get the Senior Meals.

Janet

I need to go to Dollar General; I also need to get my oil painting stuff together!  I will leave Sunday for my once a year class in Fowler.  We have a new teacher this time, one of our fellow students for many years.  Not sure it will work out, but every year, I'm afraid it will be the last year, so Dee and I are going again.  The little cafe where we always enjoyed eating lunch has closed permanently, we were told, so we need to take food along, especially for breakfast.  (Fowler is a very tiny town!)

I am still plugging along on my book.  I'm into mid-November in the timeline, and read though the time of Beth's passing last evening in my journal.  That wasn't wise.  I had such a return of the grief, and barely slept at all; finally fell asleep around 4 this morning.  Sigh......

It's HOT here!  I think 103 today!  Phew!

Well, this isn't getting stuff packed, nor groceries bought!  See you tomorrow!

Hi Everyone.  We are suppose to only get to 89 degrees today.  Once again we had showers last evening from some pop-up storms.  Our county was under a severe thunderstorm warning but we only got some moderate winds and then the rain.  Our neighborhood is having a garage sale today and our neighbors across the street are participating as they just put their house on the market a couple of days ago.  There have already been a good number of folks stopping to check the garage sale items out.  We did not accomplish what we had planned yesterday but put it off until today as Pat just wasn't up to going out.  So hopefully today we will get some strawberries and pick up her new shoes and also have our main meal out.  I may go to my meeting this morning but haven't decided for sure.

Janet, I hope you enjoy your painting today and find it relaxing.  You have us beat on high temperatures although it was warm here yesterday.

Janet

Good morning!  The God of peace has graciously come to my rescue again!  How I love Him!  I'm looking forward to the class in Alcohol Inks I'm attending today.  And tomorrow after church will head to Fowler for that class.  I think it's predicted to be HOT, so won't be surprised by that.  But how thankful I am that we almost always have very pleasantly cool nights and early mornings.

I have done a little on the book this morning, now must get myself dressed and head to class!

I wish you all a very pleasant Saturday!!

We went to the 5 PM church service today - it has communion as do all services but no choir.  Don could understand the pastor.  Such a blessing.  Two of our neighbors, ( both widowed) attend the same service so that would be nice.

This morning was dedicated to sorting stuff for donations - really making final decisions and forcing myself to pack boxes of things seldom or never used and no one in the family needs or wants those things.

Jane:  Safe and wonderful visit for you!

Larry:  I have an appointment with a doctor next week.  She is connected with the University and that is really top treatment.  Cannot believe it - first, they said nothing was open then a minute later said this doc has 15 minutes at noon - I said that I will take it so fast.

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone.  It is a very foggy morning here but we are to have a sunny day getting up to 93 degrees this afternoon.

I am ready for Sunday School and Church this morning.  I am bringing the devotional for today at Sunday School and also expect I will lead the singing if none of the choir members (we have two or three in our class) are present.  We brought home left overs from eating out at noon yesterday.  We went to Pizza Hut and started to order a medium sized pizza when the waitress told us that a large pizza was actually cheaper than the medium. So now we have our lunch for today probably with a salad.

We did stop for some strawberries, a couple of ears of sweet corn and 4 beautiful peaches on our way to the shoe store.  When we got to the shoe store we found it was closed yesterday due to a death in the family and would reopen on Monday.  I am looking forward to the finish of the golf tournament today.

Janet, I have never heard of Alcohol Inks.  Is this something new in the painting world?  I hope you have a wonderful time with the ladies painting this week.  It will be a nice break for you from your normal schedule.

Carol, it sounds like the 5 pm Saturated service is a blessing, especially for Don.  Some day your kids will appreciate your efforts to eliminate seldom or never used items.  It is hard to image what pressure doctors are under with every 15 minutes of their office time scheduled.  Glad you will be getting established with the new doctor this week.

Janet

I'm popping in to greet you all this morning before we leave for church.  Right after church I will load my painting gear and groceries I'm taking into the old car and head out for Fowler!  I don't want it to be setting out in the hot sun any longer than necessary--the painting stuff and food, that is.  Can't do much for the car!  Darrel wants to get the tires rotated on the Lincoln this week.  And because Fowler so often has wild weather, it's better I take the old car.  Dee and I have been in Fowler through floods, tornadoes and hailstorms; none of which are kind to cars!

The class yesterday was SO much fun!!!  I posted pictures on Facebook of the tiles we did, if you'd like to look at them.  I love the bright colors and the fact that you can't really control what the ink is going to do!  And if you spray a little alcohol on them, even after they dry, it will change them again.
But after you put the resin on, everything is permanent.  I loved the class!

Carol, I need to do exactly what you are doing!  And I keep telling myself I will get at it soon..but there are so many other things vying for my attention!

Abby sent out an update to all her supporters, and she is having a great time in LA.  It's going to be a summer that will change her life, I believe--and for the better, which is wonderful.  She's a great kid, an growing into a caring, Christ-like adult.  It sounds like they will be so busy nobody will have time to get into any mischief, even if they wanted to!

I won't be posting again until I get home on Friday, so maybe Saturday I can post again.  I'll miss you!

Hi Everyone.  It looks like we are going into a period of sunny and hot days for awhile and that the rain has moved on.  It was 94 yesterday and very humid.  Church ran about 15 late as it was Graduation Sunday.  Our graduates from high school and college this year were recognized.  Our Church awards quite a number of scholarships and those were awarded.  The High School graduates participated in the service and two of them spoke rather than having a sermon.  Afterwards the seniors and their parents were treated to a nice lunch in our Fellowship Hall.

I didn't realize that the golf tournament had started early and when I tuned in at 3 pm it was in a playoff already. We are still having phone problems as apparently the signal is so weak it won't work on Pat's phone and at night it won't work on mine either.  I went out on the driveway last night and the phone worked fine but could not call out inside the house.  I will be looking into this today as this is unacceptable.  If Pat is up to it we will pick up her shoes and run a couple of other errands. That will be it for today.

Janet, I saw the painting on Facebook that you mentioned.  Glad you enjoyed the class.  I guess by the time you read this your week of painting will be over.

Carol

My cell phone and my old laptop stopped working this week and I have a dental appointment tomorrow.  We can get a free SIM card for the older phone so that can be solved.  This $39 kindle is fine only difficult to

Larry Hanna

Hi Everyone. Our day starts off a bit overcast but it is suppose to be another mostly cloudy with a high of only 83.  We didn't get out yesterday as Pat wasn't feeling up to doing so.  However, she is up early this morning and eating the breakfast I prepared for her so think she will be up to getting out this morning and going to the shoe store.  I might be able to talk her into stopping at Texas Roadhouse for our main meal of the day (probably won't have to talk very long).  So it should be a pleasant day.

I talked with the Consumer Cellular people yesterday and they checked and found that AT&T is having some issues in our area that may be contributing to our phone problems.  So we will give it a few more days before making a decision to try something else. We still have about 10 days on our initial 30-day free trial.

Carol, how old is your old laptop?  Glad you can simply replace the SIM card and fix your phone.  I hope the dentist is kind to you today.

Carol

Larry:  my laptop has to be more than 5 years young.  Today, hooray!!, the sim card arrived and with guidance from  the C Cellular, we were able to put the sim (sp) card on the older iPhone and it works.  This allows us to keep our old phone at a reduced  monthly rate and we are sending back the C Cellular phone.  Their guidance to all of this has been superb.  One of the several electronic problems solved.  The new laptop arrives this week and it cost less and is more powerful than the older one.  Of course, they are all made overseas.

The poor man driving the package truck stopped and turned the hose on himself - he was so hot.  They work so hard.  Speaking of working hard long hours, our daughter works for a giant tech company and is called virtually 6 1/2 days a week - there is no rest.  No time to look for a different job either.  They are taking a family vacation this summer so that will be some relief.

It looks like rain but the sky also shows effects of the fire on the western side of the state.

Big news on the Supreme Court ruling for the Christian baker here who refused to bake a wedding cake for the two men.  People may not know that these men came from the east coast just to cause this uproar.  (At least that is what I heard months ago).  The baker lost so much business and employees lost their jobs.  The baker had offered to make cupcakes, anything but a wedding (religious rite) cake and a lawyer was defending them - all planned.  The ruling was 7 to 2, so it was based rightly so on the our basic rights.  Love it!
