I think the Magpie is a very splendid bird

They say " one for sorrow, two for joy..." whenever I throw bread out it never takes long for " one " Magpie to swoop down into our back garden and cart the whole slice away....We live down in the valley, of isolated countryside, how the birds know when I put out bread or fill the seed containers I will never know but, it never takes long for word to spread around... :)
Magpies are beautiful but, Blackbirds are my favourite birds...and we have a few that come to my garden...
" even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise "

~ Victor Hugo

I thought it was pretty Judy

Though there is a bit of superstition about Magpie, this rhyme will explain it.

Magpie rhyme.
One for sorrow
two for joy
three for a girl
four for a boy
five for silver
six for gold
seven for a secret never to be told

But does anyone know 8,9 & 10?

Eight for a wish,
Nine for a kiss,
Ten for a bird,
You must not miss...
" even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise "

~ Victor Hugo

Greetings Jaqueline

Yes. You are right. The Magpie is a magnificent bird and very intelligence.
