Title: Questions for the pros
Post by: bhdc on January 01, 2011, 08:53:39 PM
 Hi,
I have a question for the pros. I shoot a lot of hockey and I have noticed that many of the websites for the local youth hockey organizations don't have any action shots. I am considering approaching them. I have a portfolio of shots taken at various Ohio State Womens Hockey games. Here are my questions.

1. Do I approach the president of the organizations personally, email a resume, cover letter and portfolio, or send it snail mail to the mailing address?

2. If I wanted to shoot for a specific youth team and sell the pictures to the parents, do I do the same methodology for contacting the coach?

3. Do I need to have contracts written?

4. Do I need a lawyer?

Thank you for your time and responses. Forgive me if my questions are silly.

Brent

I don't have any answers, and no I don't think your questions are silly.  I will try to contact someone I know who does this.

My first suggestion is that you should contact the webmaster.  It may be that the sites don't have enough bandwidth to handle photos.

I do this...

Hi, I'm a photographer and see you don't have any action shots on your website. Are you interested in changing this? I can help you out if you are. Here is my website with examples of my work. Let me know if you are interested.

That's it. Well I will spend a little more time constructing a better contact letter. If they are interested then they'll contact me and we'll go from there. I made my own contracts so if I do shoot for someone they get them and sign off for me. I then scan that contract and email it to them. Pretty easy and cut and dry. It's up to you to set prices. Don't under sell yourself. Sure they could get someone cheaper but not as good. ;)
