JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Should I crop on the right...or on the left?  or leave it be?
Has it any merit - photographically speaking?

Very nice artistic type of Photo. I hope it was allright to work with your photo, As you can see, I  did some cropping, and applied some Water color and Hue adjustments, no offense if you do't like the results. other wise I think that some cropping could enhance.
Nice Photo

I like the watercolor technique!  Did you do that in photoshop?  Somehow the diagonal lines seems to tie the picture together better.  Almost looks like it is still snowing!  I have a few others that I took at the same time (Way back in 78 - in Norway - when I first started shooting)  These have been trapped on slides until recently when I purchased a slide scanner.

Pinkie, I, too, played with your photo.  I just installed Paint Shop Pro 8 this week and I am trying to learn the new bells and whistles.

This one I cropped the left side and did the auto-enhance things...

This one, I played around with the preset frames.

I cropped this one on the right, did a fisheye thing and then wrapped it.  If you like the effect, please do not ask me to repeat on another photo.  I don't know what I did for sure.  Just like the outcome.

Your photo at least cooled me down.   ;)

karmat

I think cropping it so that only the branches, not the trunk, showing of the tree on the left helped.  I liked the watercolor technique, because it did look like it was snowing.  Not sure what it would do on a full-size picture or print.

Is there any way you can boost the blues in the sky so that there is more contrast between the sky and trees?

Marilyn

These are some great effcts that bygrace  and Etta Sue have don one your photos. I like the one bygrace did that makes  it look like it is still snowing.

Here's some snow....really it is bubbles...I couldn't find snow on PSP8.  Still learning.  But then, does anyone ever learn it all?

Do ya see what else I added?

pinkie

Thanks for all the suggestions!  I like all the changes.  The one with the preset frame looks like a Christmas card!  Cool!  Aw heck...now we have one with a racoon and snow flurries!  hahah!  Neat!

Well, we are really having fun with this picture.  I am not that familiar with PSP and thought that I would try to find out how to do Auto Enhance like Etta Sue did - I didn't find that, but I found something else nice!  How do you like this effect?

In Adobe PhotoShop Elements:
Adjusted saturation, contrast, color, lightened, and  sharpened.
For the Snow drift effect, I went to: FILTER - ARTISTIC – then to ROUGH PASTELS, and adjusted details of how much of the ROUGH PASTEL effect to apply.
It was enjoyable to see the other POST photo work applied to your picture.

That is cool.  I like it because it provides the contrast between the sky and trees.  It also sets an interesting mood.  Not exactly depression, but it's not exactly overjoyful, either.  More like tense or apprehensive.  It as an infrared look to it.  Very nice.

Please........can I have a say? 'cause I am not a photographer but I know which one I like....

I like Etta Sue's first try-out...

They are all super variations on  Pinkie's lovely picture.

That's all.
Jenny.

Turbotech

I have Paint Shop Pro.   I am thinking about this picture.

I do think there is static in the shot.  The potential is there.  You have all the right things to work with.  For some reason that tree that comes in from the left is very distracting and I think it takes away form the shot.  This is only an oppinion.  I was not there for the shot so I do not know what you had to work with.

I tried to crop out the tree on the left and I do think it is a little better and warrents the attention back to
the Tree that I think is the Focal point.  With this type of picture you would want to fill the frame.

Have a good day all

God Bless

You know, Karmat...I love walking through the woods or along the tree line on a snowy day.  You just hear the crunch of your feet treading on the snow and when you stop, everything is so hushed and still.  That's part of the magic of living in the north (and here I am in Texas!)

Now that one John I could have in a frame on my lounge wall.....It shows off the height of the tree to full advantage........I LIKE THIS ONE VERY MUCH.

They seem like different scenes....

Turbo tech...
The tree on the left bothered me also, which is why - in the first question, I asked if it even merited keeping...  I have others shot that same day...I'm posting them in the regular photo area.
Shalom.

Amazing what the different "faces" a single photo can have, and what an important role that post photo work plays the whole scheme of photography.
I enjoyed seeing the others make-over of your photo, It was enjoyable to see what you did on your own editing, yet I could not explain the mode that it seem to portray, until I read what Karmat said
" Not exactly depression, but it's not exactly over joyful, either.  More like tense or apprehensive"
That explained it exactly! (at least for me that is).
Thanks for sharing your photo.

Etta Sue

Wow!  So many different ideas.  When I saw John's variation, I slapped my head and thought, why didn't I think of that?  Great John!  Very worth framing also.  The dark frame certainly adds to it.  I am not a critique....just like what I see.

ByGrace, your variation was great.  Took awhile to load...clicked on it and it said Size Not Available.  Wondering why that is?  What software are you using?  But still a very nice picture.

Pinkie, don't know what you did to get what you got later but it is nice with the gnarly limbs.

Karma, that effect is great.  Nothing to shout about but kind of serene and soothing.  Now if the colors were true, then it would be 'tense and apprehensive'!!

Hey, this is fun....NEXT PHOTO, PLEASE!!!

karmat

I think the one John did, cropped tightly like that, would look good if you had another similar to that in the same dimensions, then a bigger one in the middle.

skinny -- big -- skinny.  kinda like a triptych (fancy name for three pictures together as one)

Etta Sue

You do one for us, Karma!!!  Are these three 'stitched' together or separate?

Nita

This was fun reading all the posts and seeing the different work on Pinkie's photo.  Why did you stop?    Anymore photos to post? :D

I thought I would give this a try.  I used the clone tool to get rid of the branch and used a picture frame from psp8.

thanks pinkie! I think it is an awesome shot. It is just somethings seem to stand in the way of a good print, like branches, poles and such.  ::)

pinkie

Sonja...tell me how you did that...so I can do it to the original.  Clone?  My problem is when you come to the branches...  Isn't that hard?  Do you have a secret?

When you come to the branches, you have to select a new "clone" point that is in the area that doesn't have branches.

That statement doesn't sound very helpful, but I hope it is.  :)
I survived open heart surgery.... :)

Check out my blog at www.bernardshuford.com.

Sonifo

Pinkie, if you notice I only cloned the bottom half of the picture. It is to hard to clone out the one branch when it is mixed in with the other tree.

I will show you what I did step by step...give me a day. Ok.  :D
