So many daily battles we all share....we are keeping our God very busy in prayer....but prayer, belief and faith ARE the only way forwards for the likes of us Christians who DO believe...

My other half was recently diagnosed with COPD, he is in the second of four stages..just another string of illnesses to add to our bows, sadly for him, he is a non believer..

Hi everyone.  Another overcast morning but we are headed up to 91 degrees today.  I just plan on staying home today.  Yesterday we decided to try out the new Dairy Queen in our area and went there for a big lunch.  It just opened on Wednesday so everything is still bright and new. Today is my youngest great grandson's 6th birthday.  We have never seen him in person so he has no idea of who we are but we have seen many pictures of him.

Jeanne, I am so saddened to read that Pat isn't getting any better and now is suffering so much.  Thanks for keeping us informed.

Jackie, that COPD is a very distressing problem.  Stacey had that among many other conditions but refused to use oxygen as she couldn't give up smoking.

Carol

Prayers for Pat!  May your pain lessen, Pat.  May your doctors find something else to ease that continuing pain.

Janet:  Did you get any of this snow?  It is might cold here, still snowing and roads are ice.  Not a car has gone by.  They said about 10 inches and that was last night.  Skiers are in their glory!  This will be a good day to enjoy the pristine view and catch up.

Before the springtime in the Rockies storm, son's girlfriend brought a new Golden Retriever puppy, Daisy, for a visit.  We are smitten.  Logically, we know that without a solid fence, coyotes living in the ravine, etc.  oh, the stairs to the basement to let her out - there is No way we could take on training a new puppy.  It was fun to hold her though and she settled in so nicely.

We drove to Fort Collins to visit two grands in school (and work too) to take them to a 3 PM dinner.  We had just bought a 2nd car -that starts with a button - so the button did not work.  Had to get a jump on the battery and the grands took over and handled everything before we could even try.  We are so spoiled by the grands too.

Larry Hanna...Richard does not smoke now, gave up many years ago but told me he once smoked 50 a day...He was like me, I too gave up smoking 10-15 a day when my father was suffering cancer, strange how it takes a loved one to get cancer that makes one decide this is the time to give up smoking, for Richard it was his brother who had cancer, both brother and my father lost their battle...I guess one could say," something positive came out of a negative..."
...................................................................

I completely forgot to post a link on who we went to see at the theatre last Saturday, they were the very talented WOW youth performers, guess their was around 40 doing a compilation show celebrating 35 years, all singing and dancing..both myself and Richard thoroughly enjoyed the show...As for the theatre, first glance at the building outside and its location, right on the corner opposite the esplanade overlooking the beech and sea, with a carousel alongside of it, not the type of venue I am used to and the state of decay of the building would have been enough to turn me around back home but, once inside the mature in ages usherettes and all decked out looking very smart in black skirt, not trousers, they were very professional and was looking out for disabled guests and quickly came to ones aid, I could not fault them, they were very helpful in showing me the disabled loo midway down the slope, when they were made aware I was looking for the loo and just about to tackle the two to three steps, as I had previously done, maybe they had had extra training in helping disabled theatre goers.....Richard has tickets for a show I fancied to go see tonight, his choice in seating, same as last week was good, we are to be seated to the back, two end of row seats, with me near to the isle leading to the disabled loo, if I need to pay a quick visit..Link to two of WOW compilation shows, not the shows we saw...

I had also a previous sampler of WOW when they were our monthly guests at my local MS evening society, end of last year, so knew they were talented 20s and 30s......Link...

Oh yes, Carol, we certainly did get the snow!  We had 2 1/2 inches of nice steady rain, then around 3 this morning it started snowing,
and we had about six inches.  Very heavy, so it broke a lot of tree limbs in town, and of course we are all worried about the wheat and corn crops.  The wheat had already headed out and the corn was just up good.  Most of the snow has melted now, but we have a vicious North wind blowing and they are saying we could get as much as 8 more inches of the white stuff tonight through tomorrow.  Hard to believe this when it's almost May!

I'm so sorry about Pat.  I have called her a few times and she didn't really even feel like talking, she was so weak.  I wish I knew a better way to contact her,
as she probably doesn't feel up to typing, either.  :'(

We never left the place today, and the only times I went outside (after getting my snow boots back out!) were to take some photos of the snow, then when the mailman finally made it, to get the mail.  I was really glad not to be a mail carrier or a lineman today!  Town lost power, we never did out here, except for internet.

Maybe we will have to miss church in the morning if we get too much more snow.  We haven't missed a Sunday when we've been home for a long time.

Jackie, I will go back and check your links now.

Janet....hm, snow in April... :snowman:

... yes it was an enjoyable show last Saturday, which is more than I can say for last nights production of Alan Bennett's " The Lady in the Van, " put on by local amateur dramatics, to make matters worse, one of our resident neighbours was in it and had said to Richard to come along to see it, and one of four parts he was playing, where his first part was using very foul language which was said very loudly, these parts were played by senior age actors not young...there was even one elderly aged actor who came along shaking the back of the van and very loudly in an aggressive manner, I found it rather frightening....then the odd fowl language came from one or two other performers it was not my cup of tea, nor as a comedy did it make me laugh, so at the interval we had our cup of coffee then we left but, I wasnt prepared to go back for another hour to hear much of the same, besides I might have fallen asleep...Richard was part enjoying the show, the language didn't bother him, he could take it or leave it..I just told him I dont expect to pay good money to hear swearing at the theatre, at least if it is on the tv I can change the channel over...
So if anyone here is thinking on going to see this show...no, I DO not recommend it..Link...

Hi everyone on this Sunday morning.  Pat is planning on going to Sunday School and Church with me this morning.  We will then stop somewhere for our main meal of the day.  I will rest this afternoon, listen to Don't radio program as he returns live to the air after his sabbatical, and then watch the conclusion of the golf match.  Yesterday evening we lost our Internet signal for several hours but it is fixed this morning. I did stay home all day yesterday and enjoyed it.

Carol, I read a report last evening about the heavy snow storm you all had and how the amounts varied in that area.  Glad you got to enjoy the new puppy for a time.  Were you   in Fort Collins when you car didn't start?

Jackie, my father gave up smoking right after he lost his father to cancer.  He had smoked for many years and said it was very hard for him to give it up but he did what he set his mind to do.  Certainly glad Richard does not currently smoke and hope they can keep the COPD under control.  Glad you enjoyed the show on Saturday.  There are many talented people out there.  I see you did not enjoy the show last night. I have always hated foul language.

Janet, at least you didn't get the tornadoes that when through several States last night.  I hope the crops can recover.  Maybe your Church service will be canceled this morning if it would be dangerous to be outside and on the roads.

Carol

Almost a foot of snow here.  It was icy this morning so we didn't go out until we went to visit two neighbors (she had fallen and broken hand bones & elbow in an earlier ice storm).  We had tea with them and always limit our time.  She wanted my recipe for crock pot oatmeal.

Janet:  do hope the crops will be good for everyone.   We still need lots of farmland.  Do you have a cellar or basement to go to if a tornado was in the area?  A basement kept me and the children plus the dog safe once for us - all the windows upstairs were broken and a tree hit the house.

Larry:  Yes, we were in Fort Collins and did have to get a truck jump as the car jumper didn't change.  To be safe, we will install a new battery.  Just getting used to a different car and that is a Prius.  the battery is in the back.  It was showing about 50 miles per gallon when we were driving.  Good for a long road trip!

Jackie:  It sounds like a good play to leave - sorry for all the raw language.  We always think the writers aren't very literate when they use so many curse words.

PAT  Praying for you!!!!!!

Carol, Larry Hanna...
...I think it came more as a shock to me that the first one came from the only few words, from the one short line from one of our male neighbours, as I got excited when he finally came strutting on stage, only for the letdown of the loudness and the f word followed by name calling ( such as " tossing " a pancake ) :-X if you can read between the lines, just totally came out of the blue and really shocked me, as he was referring to the old lady tramp of the van...the theatre was rather packed out so have no Idea of others reactions but I guess they all went back at the second half, I am not aware if anyone else had also left for home....well it certainly was not my kind of entertainment, another elderly man actor was very loud and aggressive shaking the back of the van...
Do the writers really think the audience wants to be hearing that..

Of course Richard at some point will see our neighbour perhaps when he passes his home when out with Toby, and he will no doubt be asking if we enjoyed the show, well I told Richard to tell him straight..at least my opinion, if not his...

Janet...
...sorry the snow made you miss church, even God could not fix that for his regular parishioners...
.....................................
I certainly dont envy you who are still having snow this time of the year, that is the one thing that is out of our control, the weather.....Carol, sorry to read of your neighbour who took a nasty fall in the snow, can be so damaging for us elderly, ah yes, the young, remember those days we actually once enjoyed the snow...such as sliding on it for fun..

Hi everyone.  We have an overcast morning with a fairly good possibility of rain sometime today. I plan on attending my meeting at noon as have missed the last two weeks.  On the way I will stop at Costco for two or three items and to return and item Pat bought there that wasn't the right item.  Pat is planning on attending a luncheon for the Church circles at eleven this morning.  Fortunately we have a quart of very good beef vegetable soup in the refrigerator that we will have for our dinner tonight.

Yesterday we did attend Sunday School and Church and then stopped for lunch at a place we enjoy.  I came home and turned on Don's classical music program while I rested.

*Alert for non-golf fans: just skip the rest of this paragraph if you are not a fan. When I got up I turned on the PGA golf match, which was toward the end of a six hour rain delay, and the match didn't end until almost 9 pm.  At 6 pm CBS cut away from the golf but it continued on the Golf Channel and there we also got to see the long ending to the women's golf tournament that went to 5 or 6 playoff holes between two women and the men's where the team from Aiken, SC, which is the county seat of where I live, are in a playoff today   after one the the Aiken players had chipped in an eagle on the 18th hole to go ahead one stroke but the other team tied and thus the playoff today.

Carol, nice of you to visit your neighbors.  Ice is so dangerous and many broken bones can be the result.  I see you have been through a tornado and survived in the basement.  We had a root cellar on the farm where we went a few times when it looked bad.  It was before the days of radar that could track the storm and provide warning.  A tornado never hit our farm.  I have a good friend who has had a Prius for several years and really loves it.  I hope you will have no more problem with yours with the new battery.

Jackie, it seems our common language has become so course.  My niece and her then husband took us to a comedy club in Kansas City many years ago and I didn't enjoy it at all as the comics were so crude.

Larry Hanna...it comes down to standards, morals and scruples, Richard thinks these same words are acceptable as he uses them on me...I just hope and pray our God deals with him in his way and not in mine...I am posting this as my blood is now boiling after another session from him while he is defending the words spoken at the play..yes to say we have different morals and standards as to what is right - wrong, or acceptable do not go jointly go hand in hand...I shall now get off this subject and focus on why we are here..to live the Christian way...

Larry it is sounding you are feeling better in yourself, if you are planning on attending your meeting for the first time in two weeks...It is also good to hear Pat will be attending her church circle meeting too, as I trust her back pain has lessened..

I am going to look for that rainbow...now the sun is coming out...I am sure there will be one outside just waiting for me to take a photo...

Hallelujah!!  Our power is back on, as of about five minutes ago, so I have internet access again.  It went out just after I posted here on Saturday.  Long enough that all the food in the freezer of the side by side refrigerator/freezer thawed.  :(  But we have propane heaters, and even still have our propane kitchen range out in the back, which we kept for doing canning.  No water, but I always keep a couple or three gallons on hand in case the well goes down.  And we dipped water from the hot tub to flush the toilets, so all in all, it certainly could have been worse.  My phone nearly died, so I had to run the car to charge it.  We pried the garage door up several inches so the fumes could get out!  I used some hamburger and some stew meat that had thawed, and most of the fresh vegetables from the refrigerator and made a big pot of stew, so we aren't hungry, either!  ;)

Just after I posted on Saturday, pastor posted on FB that services were cancelled.  All services in several towns here were cancelled!  Good thing, too!  We had a real white-out blizzard!!  On the last day of April!! How crazy is that?  Altogether, we got about 15 inches of snow, on top of the 2 1/2 inches of rain that fell first.  Really good moisture, but would rather have it spread out some!  Pioneer Electric says there are hundreds of power poles down across the area which means many thousands of dollars in expenses.  I felt so sorry for the people who had to be out in that brutal weather working to restore power!  God bless them!  And the highway and police and others who were rescuing people out of ditches, etc.  Happy May Day!   :o

Carol,we no longer have a basement.  But we do have a good relationship with the people who bought our big house and if needed (and if we have a few minutes' notice) we could go up there and get in that basement.

Today is our little Chelsea's 7th birthday.  There is a party planned  but we can't get out--big drifts blocking both garages, and we don't want to kill ourselves shoveling snow!  It's really wet and heavy, but is melting very fast!

I need to call and wish Chelsea a happy birthday and see if the plans for party have changed.  It was supposed to be last night, but I know they didn't have it then.  Their power was out until 10:00 P.M.

Jackie, I wouldn't have enjoyed that language, either.  Must have a very poor vocabulary if they have to resort to filthy language.

Carol, I came back to tell you that our grandson Mark has a Prius and loves it!  Our car is also a hybrid and so far, we like it really well, too.

Well we got two calls today from Keith's Dr. He is to see a Urologise on June 6th. My dr now his Dr too, said that she doesn't believe in the  wait and observe method.

The  Eye Clinic in Portland called to make an appointment for Keith with a Retina specialist for the 24th of this month. That is his birthday so we will be changing that appointment. It will be a 3-4 hr appointment so we will have to go up to Portland the day before, if it turns out to be an early morning appointment we can  probable drive back the same day  if  a later appointment we will have to stay over night again. When they made that appointment this morning I had forgotten it was his birthday.

I will probably be going to California for Savannah's graduation from Junior College sometime this month. The in June we go to Sunriver another 4 hour drive.  in Augutst to corey's wedding  and that is another 4 hr drive.  It looks like I will be doing a lot of driving this summer.

I took it upon myself to change bedside dressers from the basement bedroom to ours.  Uff da - then, I had to take a nap.  It was easier to carry the two heavy parts around the side of the house over rocks than use the stairs.

Otherwise,  we ran a car appt. errand this morning and it took forever.  Did not realize t.v. could be so immature during the daytime in the waiting room.

Don's meds (supposed to be refrigerated) were accidently delivered to Tucson where it is hot and they had been sitting outdoors by the front.  The police check often and called me today- our friend is going to pick up the parcel and trash the medicine.  Very nice for the local police to check - they have a program called "Dark House" where you list the light timers, contacts and so forth - dates of unuse, etc.  What a relief to have someone checking - temps are really hot there now.

There was a global warming protest on Saturday downtown - in the freezing snowstorm.  We really needed the moisture.

Janet:  Your power outage lasted longer than ours of years ago - sorry about the loss of food and the upset to your routine.  Glad you are safe.

A beautifully crafted birds nest is sitting the same spot as last year's Robin family.  They are no problem at all if it is the same mama robin.  I made a large batch of French Onion Soup and have frozen 2/3 of the pot. Don is going to make a charging station for all our individual electronics.

Marilyn:  Best of health wishes on the up and coming appointments!

Jacqueline

 Marilyn...
...all the very best on Kieth's Urologist appointment, hope nothing sinister is found....as I too went through both Gynaecologist and Urologist last year, where nothing was found, yet I am still having the same old problem two years down the line, but it isn't causing me any trouble so happy to keep things this way, if it is keeping me away from hospitals, so far, so good this year...

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  After an overcast day with rain in the afternoon today is sunny and clear skies.  We expect to be in the low 80's this afternoon.  My only commitment today is to see my cardiologist late this morning.

My granddaughter called yesterday afternoon to advise us that our son was headed to the hospital in an ambulance.  He had to leave work early the night before due to severe chest pain and was able to control the pain with nitro and sleep that night but yesterday he didn't feel good so got in to see his doctor and the doctor sent him to the ER from his office.  The blood work so far indicates he didn't have a heart attack but they admitted him and will do some testing today.  So we will be anxious to hear today.  My cardiologist is also his cardiologist.  He has had one heart attack and several stents in the past.  If you would say a little prayer for him it would be appreciated by this dad.

Jackie, I haven't had the angina for the last three or four days but don't really feel much better in terms of exhaustion.  I will be discussing this with my doctor this morning.  I am not yet at the point of being willing to give up the few activities and things I participate in.  Pat's back pain is still there but perhaps not as debilitating as it has been.  She says her whole body hurts and recently the main point of discomfort has been her neck and shoulders as well as her back and the fibromyalgia.  Hope you didn't have any damage from the hail stones and heavy rain yesterday.

Janet, that was a long electrical outage.  Did you lose food in your refrigerator and freezer?  That sounds like some blizzard you experienced. Yesterday in the Costco magazine I saw an emergency lantern that runs on 8 D batteries that has a USB port in it.  It was $20 and I think it would be a good thing to have on hand with a supply of D batteries for an emergency.  Glad to read that you both haven't tried to shovel snow.

Marilyn, it will be good for Keith to be further checked out by the urologist.  It sounds like you will be keeping your car on the road all summer with the events on your schedule.

Carol, carrying furniture is a hard job.  I hope you didn't harm yourself.  I seldom watch TV in the daytime until about early evening.  Pat often watches the Hallmark movies during the daytime.  I should say she listens as usually has her computer in her lap doing something or listening to a book and playing a game on the computer at the same time.  I am finding the noise on the TV very annoying especially the ads with the blaring so called music. Great that the police are keeping an eye on your house in Tuscon.  I guess the global warming protesters probably wouldn't want to do the protect in the heat of summer.  :)  For the last 10 days or so the mother bird has been sitting on her next for the third year in a row and each year builds it higher.  I think these are robins.

Carol

Larry:  Prayers for Pat and and your son.  I hope that something can help Pat's pain.  Don is going to speak to a doctor this week about his ongoing shoulder pain as the cream is of no use.

We care concerned over a friend and cannot connect with him either cell phone or email.  He always answers right away and this has been two weeks of our leaving several messages.

A chicken carcass is in the slow cooker as the beginning of a chicken soup.  It is in the 50's today and all the snow has melted.

Still reading "A Case for Faith" by Lee Strobel.  One chapter a day is my limit - then, it is nice to ponder what has been written.

Janet

It's another beautiful day in our neighborhood!  And the snow is melting so fast!  We finally got out this morning and drove to town.  It looks like the aftermath of a tornado!  Tree limbs down everywhere, roofs caved in by the heavy snow, etc.  They are saying the wheat crop is destroyed, and likely the corn too, although they will probably replant the corn as soon as they can get machinery in the fields without getting stuck.  They were scooping the piled snow in the streets into trucks to haul it away, and because it's so warm and snow melting so fast, Darrel and I wonder why they don't let it just melt.  Well, as usual, they didn't ask us!

Larry, I'm praying for Scott.  And for you and for Pat.

I did get a few chores done yesterday that didn't require electricity or water!  ;)  We are blessed, as some don't yet have their power.  I'm praying all is restored by the end of the day.

Housekeeper is here for the first time in four weeks!  She has been out because of having surgery on varicose veins in her legs.  Good to have her back!

Carol, please don't do such heavy lifting and carrying!  Not good for you!  (I know, I do things like that too, when I decide I want it done and I'm the only one here to do it!}

I printed out a couple pictures which I'm considering painting next month in Glenn's class!

Sorry for the small print!  I got sidetracked in the middle of doing this and that's the result.  :clobber: me.

Hi everyone on another clear and pleasant morning here in South Carolina.  We are suppose to get into the mid 80's this afternoon.  The good news is that Scott didn't have a heart attack and they found nothing that could be attributed to the pain and disorientation he was experiencing.  In fact, he told hi mother than the hospital doctor had implied he wasn't having the pain he was having.  He will see his cardiologist as soon as he can get in to see her.

I did see the cardiologist yesterday.  She took me off of one of the medicines I have taken for years, ordered a bunch of blood tests and a limited Echo to see how symmetrically the walls of the heart are, i.e., are they functioning together or at different times.  She also gave me a prescription for nitro patches to use if needed.  I have to go back a week from Friday to see her to see how I am doing without the stopped medicine and find the results of the Echo. Nothing one the schedule for today unless Scott and Jennifer want to eat dinner at the Church. I did cancel our reservations but know there would be no problem if we showed up as there are always those planned for that don't show up plus there is always plenty of food.

Carol, Pat has an appointment with a pain doctor on the 16th and according to her GP will likely get shots for the pain as he doesn't think surgery would do the trick for her since her spine is in such back shape.  She has been having me rub Aspercream with Lidocaine on her neck and shoulders and does get some relief in that area.  I hope your friend that you are concerned about it all right.

Janet, one thing nice about a blizzard this time of year is that the snow is not going to stick around.  Glad you were able to get out and go to town yesterday.  Terrible news for the farmers on the crops.  How big an area in Kansas is affected by that.  Glad your housekeeper is back so that you can be relieved of some of the work around your house.

Janet

Larry, according to the TV news, this storm and freeze has affected the whole western third of Kansas.  The farmers here in Kansas produce billions of bushels of wheat each year, so this devastating loss will result in higher prices for those who do have a crop.  Sad for some, better news for others.

So glad that Scott didn't have a heart attack and hope they find the cause of his pain.  Hope you do well without the stopped medicine, and that Pat also gets relief from her terrible back pain.

We learned today that another of Darrel's high school classmates has died.  She was living in the apartments where John lives and wanted to go to the care home "because then I won't have to do anything."  :(  She would likely have lived longer if she had kept moving!  Oh, how Beth would love to move!  Yesterday it made me so sad when Beth was trying so hard to ask me something, and it took quite a while to get that she was saying, "Is it cold?"   :'(

I just got home from eating lunch with the Red Hat ladies at Puffy's Pizza.  And it's raining!!  If only we could save it until we need it!  The road is much worse than yesterday because it rained during the night, too.  I haven't waded out to check the rain gauge yet!  ;)

Pat Halbach, if you stop in and read this, please know how much you are loved and missed.  I told Darrel this morning I wish I could go see you, and he said,
"Why not?"  I told him I don't like to leave him, and he said he could go along and read a book.  But that might be more than you feel up to, having company, even though my aim would be to help you.  So if you do see this, and can, please drop me a line and let me know how this sounds to you.  <3

Hello to all who pop in today.  Hope you're having a good day!

It did snow twice today but all changed to rain and now the sun is shining.

Larry:  Praying for Pat's pain shot to relieve her for a long time.  It seems as though many have to have several shots to counter the pain.  Hopefully, one will be successful.    Scott's episode must have been so frightening for you two.  good that he is having a 2nd. opinion.

After two weeks of sending notes and calling, we found a friend (who is widowed)) has been in hospital.  His daughter called and told us that David had a rupture of his colon and had immediate 3 hours surgery.  After a week and a half he was just being sent to rehab yesterday.  Long recovery.  Thankfully, he had not taken off driving from Arizona to Utah as he was planning the day after his attack and would have been in isolated territory.

Yes, Janet:  I will listen to you.  So sorry for the farmers loss and of course for the expected rise in the cost of wheat products.  It is early in the year too -Stay Safe

Don made a charging station for my three electronic devices by using an old office file folder.  It looks so nice and much neater.  My old iPad is  really slow even with a new battery.  Poor thing - they must make them pass on just so we would buy another - it is much heavier to use so I would not get another again.

Hi everyone.  According tot he forecast we will be getting some rain, possibility some heavy thunderstorms, later today.  Pat has a doctor's appointment at 10:30 with her GP as she needs a paper prescription for her pain medication.  She had refills on her previous prescription but didn't realize the prescription was good for only 3 months since it contains a narcotic type drug.  We plan on eating at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant on our way home and then won't need to worry about a main meal this evening.

Yesterday was a quiet day.  Scott and Jennifer did join me at the Church for our Wednesday night dinner.  It was very well attended as it was Taco Night and also because following the meal they were having a Lip Sync contest.  We did not stay for that event.  Scott and Jennifer then came out to the house.  Scott was feeling better yesterday and plans on going back to work this evening.

Janet, it sounds like a lot of food prices will go up with the loss of so much of the wheat crop.  I remember we had to replant corn crops a few years when the initial planting was ruined in some fashion.  Scott had several tests including a new test that is able to make a 360 degree picture of the heart.  It sounds like it should eliminate the need for so many heart caths.  They also did a test to look at his brain as he was experiencing some disorientation.  All the tests came back negative, thankfully.  He was very displeased with the doctor who works for the hospital who told him he wasn't experiencing the pain he was still having when they sent him home.  I am sure Beth is tired of where she is but she certainly couldn't care for herself and needs the help from the home.

Marilyn, does Keith risk losing his sight by not attending to the needs of his eyes soon?

Carol, I am confident that one series of shots will not solve Pat's problem but am hopeful that this process will bring her relief from that pain.  Glad you heard from your friend's daughter.  That sounds like a very serious condition he has and it was good he wasn't out on the road when it happened.  I agree the older iPads are a bit heavy.  I still use my iPad 4 and have no intention on replacing it, at least not anytime soon.  It works perfectly and has a great video display.  I agree with you that in most things anymore we have built-in- obsolescence.

I don't know the answer to that Larry.

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood.... sunny with heavy snow on the mountains.  No wonder so many people are moving here - drugs and views.

We spent a few hours at the VA building.  They are years late in building the new VA hospital that is very far east of the city.  Unfortunately, whoever was in charge of that planning made a blunder and now we found that there will not be enough room for the primary care doctors.  This means a primary care doc won't have an easy time getting to see their patient while someone is hospitalized.  We could not believe that there could be such an oversight.

After Don's tests were over, we stopped at a Perkins for lunch - so fortunate that our meals - my  toasted half sandwich with tomato and avocado was served just as they announced all the hot meals were stopped for a repair in the kitchen.  They gave me two cookies with my sandwich too.  Nice.  Sorry for all the others who were planning one of the breakfasts.  It had to take a toll on the waitresses income for the day too.

Larry:  For years, we went to Wednesday night services with meals as all four children were in confirmation classes for several years each.  I used to make pots of soup and also was the one to climb the ladder and clean the kitchen vents.  Now I couldn't get on that ladder.    ----That sounds like a really great test Scott had for his heart.  Glad to read that Scott is feeling well enough to go to work.

Hi everyone.  It is another overcast morning and will stay only in the high 60's today.  I got up a little bit early this morning and made a quick trip to the lab at the hospital to get the blood tests done that my cardiologist had ordered before I see her again next Friday.  This area is wonderful as there wasn't any traffic around 7 am.  Today is the day for the housekeeper and there are no other plans for the day.

Yesterday Pat did get in to see her doctor and then we stopped at Cracker Barrel for a hearty lunch.  Then we had to go to Walmart where Pat got a couple of prescriptions for herself and picked up one for me.  I waited for her in the car as didn't feel up to going into Walmart. We were away from the house about 5 hours.  I came home and took a nap but didn't feel rested so went to bed around 8 pm.

Carol, I have heard numerous reports about what a disaster that new VA hospital is in terms of cost overruns and other inadequacies.  It is sad that many of the primary care doctors won't be able to be housed in the new hospital. It has been years since we ate at a Perkins but always had good meals there.  It sounds like you got your orders just under the wire. We have some paid workers at our Wednesday night dinner but also a lot of volunteers.  There is a lot of work involved in preparing, serving and cleaning up after each meal.  Our meals are well attended and there is a $20 upper limit for a family on what the meals cost.  The meals are $6 each, which is very reasonable.  We will have an entree, vegetable, rolls or biscuits, salad and dessert.

I think I have missed a day or two in here.  I know for sure I missed yesterday, as I had four meetings to attend, all in one day.
:-\  Sure glad that doesn't happen every day.  I was exhausted.  The first meeting was Beth's care plan, which is always mentally and emotionally taxing,
and the last was a meeting with the county commissioners and the public regarding the proposed sale of our county owned care home where Beth lives.  I had questions, and they were all answered.  But I find it so sad that things have come to the point of having to sell first our hospital and now our care home and assisted living facility.  :'(  But the company buying the two care facilities is a family owned company and the commissioner I talked to today assured me they are Christians with very high spiritual goals.  They own one in Garden City that people are really pleased with, so am just praying this works out well for our county.  The sale will be final the last part of June.

Our huge snow is all gone now except a few small areas in the shade.  But there are tree branches piled along every street in town.  And thousands of cattle perished!  Over four thousand in just the feedlots in the county, besides all the privately owned ones.  The survivors walked over fences and got out, wandering for miles, even into towns and open buildings, disoriented, stressed, thirsty and hungry.  So not only will the prices of wheat go up, but the already high prices of beef will skyrocket!!  They were (are) hauling the dead cattle to facilities that process them into dog food and such, but can they handle thousands of them?  I don't know.  Such tragic losses for the farmers and the cattlemen.  :'(  The cattle either drowned from breathing the very wet snow, or their nostrils were blocked with the wet snow, suffocating them.  So very sad.  When I was 16, we had a huge 3-day blizzard in which my Dad lost 58 head of cattle that way.  It was so terrible.  :'(

Our trees are really busted up, and we aren't able to get up in them to trim out the broken limbs.  Maybe we can find some help after the people in town get theirs taken care of, I hope so anyway.  Not worth getting hurt trying to do that kind of work.   :(

Did anyone else get a short quiz thing, offering a "free" gift?  Then the price of shipping far exceeds the value of the so called free gift!   :ticked:  It aggravates me that they annoy us with that kind of junk, and I'm shocked to see it here on our site, for sure.  "Free gift" is an oxymoron.  If it isn't free,
it isn't a gift!  Okay, done ranting now.   ;)

Our little ones have a dance recital tomorrow night so we need to go to Liberal for that.  Little ones are always so darn cute in those recitals!

I pray the Lord is smiling and blessing all of you today!

I pray the Lord is smiling and blessing all of you today!

Janet:  Only you can go through such stressful meetings - endure the wrath of unforgiving weather and then send out a blessing to all.

No, the news of anything in the heartland is so often ignored.

We drove a friend to her hand therapy today - there are many in the neighborhood helping in this little way.  She broke bones in one hand and one shoulder falling on ice weeks ago.  Another surgery is expected - this is a long and painful time for her and she is caregiver to her husband.

Larry:  $6 is quite a deal for a full dinner anymore.  It sounds like you and Pat have found such a great retirement place and so nice that Scott is close as well.
