Title: Clingmans Dome
Post by: Oldiesmann on October 14, 2022, 11:09:21 AM
I recently took a small vacation down to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and other nearby areas. This past Sunday I drove from there down to Clingmans Dome, the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and about an hour from Pigeon Forge. Once you arrive at the parking lot, it's about a half mile hike up a steep path (330 foot elevation change over that half mile) to the observation tower. A quick walk up to the top of that tower yields spectacular views, though it was still somewhat cloudy up there when I got there (I got there around 10am to avoid the crowds). Here's one of the pictures I took (click to see the full size in the gallery).

These are beautiful images. The clouds make the images all the more intriguing. Great shots.

That's the only photo I've uploaded here from Clingmans Dome (the foggy lake shot was taken locally a couple years ago), but there are quite a few more where those came from. I'll get the rest uploaded here soon.

John and I enjoyed your gallery. Perfect combination of clouds, depths of mountains, color, and drama! Thanks for sharing. Hope you are doing well and have rehabilitated by now.

I'm pretty much as fully recuperated as I'm going to get. I've been back at work for almost 3 months now, and we're about to head into peak season which means I'll probably be working 60 hours a week between Thanksgiving and New Years (at least if it's anything like it was last year).

Oh, wow. You're in our prayers. Glad you're at a place where you can work again. Hope your holidays go well.
