GEORDIE
My Wonderful Border Collie
Geordie has been my constant companion for almost 13 years. He usually goes with me everywhere and he knows just about everything I'm talking about.
Last week, I almost lost my buddy. He had a little "thing" on his lower eyelid that was scratching his eyeball every time he blinked causing his eye to bleed and so I decided to have it removed in order to take away this irritation. Due to his age, the vet tried to do it with a "local" anesthetic but Geordie sure didn't like to see those scissors so it was decided to use a very mild "general".
Geordie just had a very bad reaction to that and on Tuesday, I nearly lost him. The vet worked so very hard (over 3 1/2 hours) trying to revive him and so far his time spent with "Geordie, my lad" (as he called him) has been working albeit very, very slowly. Last night, I slept in my bed with him beside me in his bed on the floor. Up until last night, I've been just lying beside him on the floor and we've spent a lot of time staring into each other's eyes!
Here's Geordie the day before his surgery. As some of you know, he went downhill very quickly followiing the anesthetic and I nearly lost him. He so loves the snow and he was just sitting at the door staring and wishing I'd go out and play with him.

Geordie TodayGeordie loves his bed. Today he seems to be much more comfortable and I'm so happy. I'm still force feeding him though as he really has no interest in eating yet.

I thought this would be his last day on earth. He was very, very ill and Terena, my daughter-in-law came and carried his limp body into the vet where he worked with Geordie for 3 1/2 hours(https://www.christianphotographers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fpat.photography-cafe.com%2Fgallery%2Falbums%2Fuserpics%2FDSC_0257GeordieBed.jpg&hash=ef6b95631218fe5225d1456461a627d1e504d158)
He's not out of the woods yet. Last year at this time, he was about 45 lb. On Boxing Day, he was 35 lb. and on Tues. he was 33 lb. So, he's been losing weight gradually and the vet suspects something "nasty" but we're going to try hard to get some weight back on him as he loves to run and explore and I just know that we're going to have many more fantastic days together.
:dogrun:
Pat he is such a beautiful boy, well loved by everyone who knows him.
He looks so weak in the bottom 2 pictures.
I'm sure he'll be just fine, Pat. Keep us updated, OK?
Sure will, Scotty. Today was a better day but he's still very ill.
It's amazing how Gordie looks like Smokey lying there in his bed. similar coloration in the fur, and except for the lack of tearstains by the eyes his face looks like Smokys too. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.
So sorry to hear about your friend Pat. :'( I know how a pet can become part of the family. Just want you to know I'm pulling for you and Gordie.
Don
Thinking about you and Geordie. :console:
How is he doing Pat?
He's doing a little better, Judy.
Just wish he'd start to eat.
I'm glad to hear Geordie is doing better. Sure hope he gets his appetite back real soon. Am remembering you both.
Don
OK Pat Am continuing to pray.
Lots of Love and care and a trip to Virginia a week and a half later, he was saying,
"Come on Pat, let's go for a wee walk!"

"Yes Pat, I'm coming--but I wish you'd stay out here with me and let's go for a walk!"

The sun was bright on his eyes the other day out in Winchester, VA but he's now a very happy border collie who knows a lot about love and care and compassion.
Not out of the woods yet but getting there.

"You know what Pat? I think I'm going to like this new home in Virginia and this fantastic veranda to sit on where I can watch the world go by and those cows across there and the horses across the road! Life sure is good with you and Paul!"

I'm glad he's doing better, Pat.
Oh Pat I am so glad he is getting back to his old self!!
Thanks so much!
He is soooo handsome!
Oh Aunt Pat ... I am so happy to see him smiling again. I have kept him in my prayers. He sure looks like he is starting to really get back to his old self. Give him a hug for me k? Love you both.
Yes, Kevin, I agree he's a pretty good looking beastie.
Thanks Heather. Nice seeing you on here.
I'm so glad to see he's back on his feet and doing well, Pat. Our animal friends are very special.
"My goal is to be the kind of person my dog is sure that I am."
Glad that he is well again. Where I carpet bowl, a couple leave their little pet, who looks just like yours, tied in the entrance. She is deaf and the most loving little dog. Always wanting me to tickle her tummy. What clever dogs they are....she has overcome a lot.

Like I say, a great home-going for Geordie. Jack and Geordie together waiting for their bestest friend(s) to join them.
Pat ~ I know you are sad...we are all sad for you!
Oh, Pat, my heart aches for you today. You know I loved Geordie, even not having met him. But he talked to me on the phone! What a lovely dog. I know the Lord is consoling you today, and I send you my love, and prayers are going up for your encouragement and help. Love you, dear friend.
Oh Sweet Geordie I see you sitting there in the snow with tears in my eyes
He has gone to be with his master no longer missing Jack when he goes to the cemetery with you Pat. I know your heart is broken and he will always be in your heart. I am praying for comfort for your broken heart. .
Pat, there's little I can say to comfort, but do know I'll be praying with you as you and Paul recover from his loss.
Hi Pat,
That last picture is so beautiful! I loved Geordie! I know he was welcomed in many different homes. Thank you Julia for looking after him while Pat had a painful arm. I can just picture him running through the green meadow to see Jack. I truly believe that God gives us our beloved pets for our pleasure because God loves us!
Love Ruthie
Pat,
My heart aches for you. How much we love our animal friends, and how hard it is to see them go. When Scrabbles died, someone here told me that the love of animals is like the love of God; complete and unconditional.
They enrich our lives and make us better people.
He looks like my first dog. Thanks for sharing.
Jess
Thank you all so much for your loving thoughts. I just can't get used to the fact that Geordie is no longer here. He was going to be "ALWAYS HERE" in my mind.
What a beautiful dog, Pat. I'm so sorry you lost him.
Pat, he is "always here" in your mind ... you'll always have those wonderful memories of your dear friend and companion. <3
