A HANDFULL OF SAND
by Smokey the Dog

I was walking in the desert, spiritually speaking.
God's Word was dry.
Church was gritty and uncomfortable.
Dust devils swirled through my life.

Walking across the latest sand dune something caught my eye.
I reached down and picked up a handful of sand,
and my eyes were opened.

I saw millions of unique sand grains, each reflecting the light
of the sun. Millions of unique Christians, each reflecting the light
of The Son.

I remembered Genesis 22:17 which says;
Indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens, and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of their enemies.

Millions of tiny sand grains in a parched and dusty land
Millions of God's people in a desert land

I remembered Moses was in the desert herding sheep 40 years
40 years the people of Israel wandered in the desert
40 years they followed the cloud by day, the pillar of fire by night.
40 years till all the previous generation died, in the wilderness.

40 years in the desert, God fed them Manna there.
40 years in the desert, God led them there.
40 years in the desert, God met with them there.

I remembered all the multitudes touched by God in the dry dusty places,
and suddenly my own short walk in a spiritual desert
didn't seem so bad after all

Ohhh, thanks so very much for this.  I'm going to come back here and read this again.  Sure makes me think.
