Title: Golden Wedding
Post by: Papa John on May 08, 2003, 06:04:30 PM
In 1999 Cornelia and I celebrated our Golden Wedding Day.  I wrote a little poem which we had printed and which was distributed to guests.  Some of you may have seen it on our web site.

Fifty Years

(Written for our Golden Wedding Day)

T'was in the spring when green grass grows
Under the tower where trees in rows
Give shade to sweethearts who sit and dream,
Of future plans.

Could I dare to hope she would say yes
To my words of love and tenderness
As I took her hand and ask her
To marry me.

T'was in the spring of forty-nine
I asked Cornelia to be mine
She said "Yes" and that was
Fifty years ago.

Many years have come and gone
Some seemed short and some seemed long
But all the years have been
Filled with happiness.

Mississippi, Kentucky, and Tennessee
Beth, Martha, and Rachel made three,
And as time went by
The Murphree family grew.

He was a preacher, she a preacher's wife
So the girls were blessed with a wonderful life
Of preacher's kids with some assets and
With many liablities.

Two sons-in-law slipped in the door
Six grandchildren made even more
And now a grand-son-in-law.
Where will it all end?

Mission work and travel years
A lot of laughter. A lot of tears,
But the people and love made
It worth it all.

From the Pyramids, to the Taj Mahal,
From South Sea Islands, to the China Wall
We have traveled many miles
And still have some to go.

So hand in hand and side by side
And having Jesus as our guide
Has brought us to this great time
Our Golden Wedding Day!

That's just so nice, Papa John.  Thanks for posting that here.

While I was thinking about my own golden in December of this year, I re-read this, Papa John.  Well, one thing led to another, and I decided to modify it slightly.  So here it is again!

Oh may God grant you many, many more -
Happy years from His boundless store!
Daily experience His kindly love -
And joy and peace from Heav'n above!!!!

Papa John,

Here I am, 116 post thus far here & a full member here.  I told you that I'd be back, I really like it here.  There is many interesting subjects to get in on & I have so much to learn about the various things that I can do with my PSP 7.  I also hope to learn more about HTML.  I do not know much about PHP, but I had run accross a website that had it.

~*Wow, what an awesome poem*~    ~*It's definately touching & it move's, LOL*~

I write poetry & I find it very easy, but........I've not written anything that I like.  I can't seem to write a poem that suit's my husbands godly character.  All I know is my husband was a gift from God & that is why we got married on both our birthday's, 7 day's apart, twice in the same year.  My husband is a great man, but I guess what I'm saying is I can't seem to write a poem that is comparrible to my husband & the Love that I have for him.

I guess that all I can do is pray about it, for God answer's most all of my prayers!!  My best poetry is inspired by God, like the one that I wrote in this section of the board called," Decieved & In Hell Recieved?"  It was my mothers favorite poem that I wrote!!
