The Verdict
-Dana Leigh
Please forgive my waywardness,
I don't deserve your faithfulness.
Why do you give it?
I knew better deep down inside,
but I chose to tell myself the lie
that it doesn't matter...
You gave all you had.
Do you ever wish you could take it back?
I don't blame you...
It fell to the ground with a sickening thud,
and I drug your name all through the mud.
God, I'm sorry...
I can't believe what I see...
Why are you reaching out to me?
Don't you know what I've done?
Your eyes are loving and kind,
as you whisper a name that sounds like mine.
Then you say, "When I see you, I see my Son."
The walls around my heart,
slowly fall apart,
as I fall into your arms of love...
In your eyes, all I see,
is love looking down on me,
when I ask, "Will I ever be enough?"
Silence your reply,
all I can do is cry,
as you take me to the cross.
I see his suffering, his pain,
he traded dignity for shame,
so that I would not be lost.
"God, why did you do this for me?
Did you not know how unfaithful I would be?"
I ask, needing to know the truth.
You say, "I knew, but all I could see,
Was my Son, as he entered your plea...
NOT GUILTY..."
Thank you .... Oh, the LOVE of Jesus! <3

Very beautiful - and so true.

We will probably see better poetry, from a technical standpoint, but we'll probably never see a better portrait of an honest heart.
