Title: Janet's Grandson Mark
Post by: Janet on April 25, 2005, 09:17:05 PM
Mark called me after 3:00 this afternoon.  I said "How are you doing?" and he said "Not so good right now."  He had an accident in the wood shop at school and almost cut off the two middle fingers of his left hand.  The saw kicked something back and caused it.  It split the fingers lengthwise almost to the nails, really deep.  They rushed him to the emergency room there in Hugoton, but they said he needed a hand specialist, so when Mark called, Diane was taking him to Liberal.  I asked if he were in a lot of pain, and he said not then because they had given him Dimerol and a shot of morphine.

Jeff called about two hours ago to tell me the surgeon in Liberal started to work on Mark's hand in her office, but discovered he had severed a tendon and a nerve, so sent them to the hospital for surgery.  We are waiting on pins and needles for more news.  Please pray for Mark.  His goal is to become a commercial pilot, and I pray this accident won't spoil those career plans.  Thanks so much.

Mark just turned 19, and is a senior is high school, will graduate on May 15th.

Update!  Diane just called to say Mark is out of surgery and being taken to a room.  They will keep him overnight and let him go home in the morning.

The surgeon was able to repair all of the damage, but Mark will have to keep his hand elevated tonight, then be in a sling for 6 weeks, which means through graduation.  Then he will need therapy, but the doctor thinks he will regain full use of his hand, and for that I am so thankful.  God is so good.

Your prayers for Mark are appreciated, that the hand will heal quickly and that he will have full use of it, and not have to endure a lot of pain in the process of healing.  Thank you.

Oh thank You, Father, for giving that physician the skill needed to repair that hand.  I pray just now that You'll also cause the entire healing process to be uneventful, fast, and thorough.  And Father, I pray that You'll even use this entire incident to draw Mark into close relationship to Yourself.

Yes, Judy, Mark is Curtis' and Abby's brother.  He seemed quite optimistic this evening, said he was having some pain, but not too much.  He has a big wad of a bandage that sort of looks like a boxing glove, with only his thumb sticking out!   And yes, Al, I also pray this will draw Mark closer to God.  He's a really good boy, but even the best of us need to stay close to God!  Mark is a Christian.  Thanks so much for praying for him, friends.  You are all special!

Janet:  My prayers for your Mark!  This very accident happened to our older son - on one middle finger - when he was working on a car two years ago.  Now, he has full use although when it is cold, he can really ache.  I pray for a quick recovery for Mark!.

Janet, I just discovered your prayer request.  I'm so happy to read he is doing ok.  I could feel your pain. :)

I, too, have a grandson that age, who is graduating this year. (he lives with me) and a son-in-law who is a commercial pilot.

Yes, Janet - I did not even begin to imply that Mark wasn't a Christian, but oh how good when God uses even these hard things to draw out the soul of the sufferer to Himself!  May it be so.  May He also move along the healing on that hand speedily.

Oh, Al, I didn't think you were implying that!  But it is such a comfort to know that our loved ones have accepted the Lord, and such sorrow over those we know who have not---yet.  There is always much to pray about, isn't there?  Mark was typing homework one handed today when I was there, then he was starting supper.  Such a sweetie.  :)  (Do I sound like a proud Grandma who adores her grandkids??)

Thank you, Marilyn.  Mark is a little discouraged because he had a summer job lined up, but the guy says he needs a man with two good hands.  Mark is really disappointed because this guy is a spray pilot, and Mark loves working around airplanes  But he might get to work around the shop some anyway, if his hand is usable at all by then.  He goes back to his hand surgeon on the 9th.

We'll be remembering Mark on May 9.  That's too bad about the summer job.
