Title: Karma's friend Eric
Post by: karmat on April 18, 2006, 10:47:10 PM
On Christmas Day, 2004, my friend Eric was admitted to the hospital with a severe headache and was diagnosed with a brain tumor.  It was malignant, so they did surgery and thought they had gotten it all.  His prognosis was good.

About 6 weeks ago, he started having trouble with his neck and went back to the dr.  At first, they said, "Yes, it is a tumor," but then changed it to a diagnosis of "some kind of menigitis" (my little sister's quote).  Two weeks ago, they decided that it was a tumor, and that they hadn't gotten all of the brain cancer and it had mastisized to his spine.  He has been told that two months would be a long time.  :'(  He has a wife and two young children, and they have been working as missionaries for Campus Crusade for Christ.

Please pray for grace to face this and get through it.  Pray especially for his mother Judi and youngesr brother Martin (my lil sis's boyfriend).

I'm praying, Karma.  When our hearts are filled with saddness and the questions seem overwhelming, sometimes all we can do is cling to our Father and cry.  He understands every tear and He knows our hearts.  I pray this family will know His comforting love and the assurance that God is still in control.

God doesn't need us to do His work, but He gives His servants their tasks, and it's a wonderful privilege to receive grace to do His work.  I pray, Father, that You'd bless Your servant Eric.  Let him see fruit from His labor, I pray.  And, Father, if it's Your best for him, his wife, his children, and Your kingdom, then I pray You'll spare him and heal him.  Oh do these things, Father, through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Update --

Physically, Eric is still hanging on.  He's in pain, obviously, but dealing okay with it.

Kasey is still in Indianapolis with them, so we get periodic updates.

Spiritually -- Some awesome things are happening.  Those family members that were Christian are growing stronger, and the one (his dad) that is not is growing close.  Eric (even in drug induced stupors) keeps saying, "It's okay.  If ya'll could see what I'm seeing, if ya'll could see the big picture, you wouldn't be sad.  God is working.  It is okay."

So, if God chooses to heal Eric -- AWESOME.  If not, then that is His will.

I would ask that you pray for the dad's salvation.

Well, Erik passed from this life to the real one Sunday evening.

The funeral is tomorrow in Indianapolis.  :(

Here is a link to his and his wife's campus crusade for Christ site

I found it a blessing to read all the entries on the guestbook from all around the world.
