Please pray for Glenn aka "SmokeyTheDog" as he's had a very bad day.

Here's his post on Facebook:

"This was not a good news day.
The doctors say my dad has stage 4 cancer, has spread to his liver. He will be beginning radiation and chemo soon. (through St. Joes)

Then we took Bear to the vet this afternoon because he was having trouble standing up and walking, and not eating. They think they saw a mass in his abdomen."

That sure would be a bad day.   :(  Such a lot of bad news all in the same day.  I pray the Lord will give Glenn and all his family strength and peace.

Glenn, you'll be in my prayers, as well as your father, and also Bear. That's difficult news to try to process.

Glenn, some days the news is better than others.  Don't give up hope.  We heard yesterday that the sister of a good friend, who was being treated for stage 4 cancer was now cancer free.  The treatments are tough but survivable.  Sorry about Bear.  Larry

Carol

Glenn:  Although I don't know you very well, I can appreciate what you are going through this day.  It is like Larry is saying in that life is like a roller coaster ride and only prayer can even out our reactions.  Take care of yourself!

Marilyn

Glenn I am praying for both you father and  Bear.

An update from Glenn

QuoteAfter the vet visit yesterday afternoon they carried Bear out to the car in a blanket. (He had walked in to the vet.) They had given him some pain meds. We carried him in the house in the blanket, and laid him in the living room. He just laid there panting all afternoon, wouldn't touch any kind of food, or even water. He tried to get up to go outside, but collapsed. We helped him get outside, and he collapsed again. We couldn't get him to stand gain. We got the blanket again and carried him out to the car and brought him to the emergency animal clinic. They gave him some pain meds, and did some x-rays, and lab work. Their digital x-rays clearly showed what our vet's x-ray film was not able to show clearly. A huge tumor attached to his liver. The blood work confirmed cancer. He was in such pain even with the medication! We knew it was bad before we brought him in, and this just confirmed it. We were with Bear when they put him to sleep about midnight.
RIP Bear, our furry family member for 4 and a half years. You will be missed.

Jeanne Lee

Glenn, my sympathy for the loss of Bear.  I remember when he first joined your family and what a joy he brought to you.

It is rough for him, so much thrown at him so fast.  Now to get through things with his dad.  He is well prayed for.  He posted pictures of Bear, what a beautiful dog.

SmokeytheDog

Thanks Pat and Judy for letting everyone here know. I'm glad I didn't have to retype a post here. I'm so "old school" I probably wouldn't have thought of copying and pasting from my Facebook posts.

My dad is going in Friday to have a port put in for future chemo treatments. They are going to do a biopsy of his liver at some point to see what exactly is going on there. I don't know when they are going to start radiation.

Thanks for all your prayers.

Glad to see that you found this place, Glenn.  We're all praying for you and your father.  I was so shocked about Bear.  It's such a short time since you said Farewell to Smokey.

Please keep us posted about your Dad.  Thanks for doing that today.  We'll be praying for you and the whole family circle as you go through this journey together.

God bless you, Glenn.

Have you ever heard of Jason Winters? He had cancer, and found the right combination of natural products that helped him overcome cancer. They cleanse the blood, which then allows the immune system to work much better. He made it into a tea. His website is at http://www.sirjasonwinters.com/
Although he is dead now, he lived for 27 years after being told he had terminal cancer.

I would also recommend avoiding processed foods, and doing juicing.

I pray he will be healed and can regain good health.

UPDATE on my Dad
Today I was awakened at 7:30 by the phone ringing. It was my step mother telling us that my Dad was taken by ambulance to the ER at St. Joes hospital. To make a long story short, they found he had a bladder infection, and he was admitted. I also found out what might have been upsetting my step-mother so much. All these years dad has been going to church off and on. When he met Ginny he went to church with her. He's been going to church and singing in the choir (as a non member) for 30+ years. After I became a Christian in 1976 I never had a big discussion on whether or not he was saved. Well now I find out he's not. We had a discussion about salvation and the importance of accepting Christ right there in my dad's ER room. I don't know if any of what I said stuck because he was on some pain medication. Next time I see him I'm going to give him the book "The case for Christ" by Lee Strobel. It coveres some of the doubts he has. Please pray for his salvation.

UPDATE:

Well my dad is in a nursing home for the duration of his radiation treatments, also because the feeding tube he now has is too much for him his wife to handle right now. The evangelical home is a real nice place. They transport him m-f to his treatments at a nearby hospital.

My did really hit it off with the chaplain at the hospital. Apparently the chaplain at one time had some of the same doubts ad my dad has. He has been reading Lee Strobel's book too.

Last night (Monday) I got a call about 11:00pm from my step mother, and thought "Oh no, something has happened." This time it was good news! Ginny told me that dad had prayed to accept Christ this evening!  Woo Hoo!

Update from Facebook

QuoteLovely day today, too bad I didn't get a chance to enjoy it much. We were awakened at 3:30am by a call from the evangelical home saying my dad was taken to St. Joes ER. (feeding tube issues). We were there from about 4:00am to 9:00am. We went home and ate, and took a nap. We were back at St. Joes ER later this afternoon. My Dad had been taken back to the evangelical home, and then sent back to the ER. (Feeding tube issues again). Dad has been admitted to St. Joes _this time_ till they can figure out what's wrong. :^P

We will remember you in prayer, Glenn.  God bless you.

UPDATE:

My Dad is back at the evangelical home. He was back Monday. I thought things would be back to a more normal routine, but now my dad has Peritonitis. Probably from all the messing around with his feeding tube. Anyway they have started treating him with 2 antibiotics.

Today we (me, my wife my step-mother and my Dad) had an informational meeting about hospice.
It was rough on my wife because we went through the same thing with her father back in March.
Pray for wisdom about hospice.

Awww...  Glenn, I'm so sad to read the news of your dear father.  I completely understand how your wife is feeling.  Please give her a virtual hug from all of us here at CP.

I will be continuing to pray for your whole family circle.

Glenn you know I am praying as I keep up on Facebook.  I echo what has already been said.  I will continue to pray.

SmokeytheDog

My dad and step-mother decided pretty quickly. Today my dad was moved to hospice. Arbor hospice is closer for my step-mother, and me too. It seems like a real nice facility. I had to miss some time from work, but it was worth it to see my dad settled in.

Glenn, Hospice is wonderful.  I've had experience with them, both with 24 hour at home care for my stepmother and then my father and in a nursing home for my mother.  I know the decision will ease things for your father and for you and your mother as well.  And of course, prayers continue.

Ruth Ann Bice

I agree. We had hospice with my father, and it was so much easier to be able to let him go because of at home hospice. He had a peaceful homegoing with all his family gathered round singing the old hymns he loved. God even worked out the timing so that my son and his family were in town from England. How precious to have my children all with me to help me celebrate his homegoing.

Yes, we will continue prayers for y'all.

Continue to pray for my step-mother Ginny. She has a lot of challenges ahead, including her hearing problems.  Thanks for your prayers during my dad's illness.
