Title: Introduction to Songs of Worship

Songs Of Worship

INTRODUCTION

The Psalms are the worship songs of Israel. They were sung to the Lord, sung in His Presence, and sung by His inspiration. Early each morning the cantor (worship leader) stood in the temple on Mount Zion to call to worship the few who had gathered there and the many more who were still streaming up the hill toward the temple. In a clear and melodic voice he sang out one line of a psalm. Then all the people within the sound of his voice would repeat after him in singing that line. It would then be repeated by the people further down the hill. and so on to the outermost reaches of Jerusalem. In this way the worship of Israel could in all likelihood be heard as far as Emmaus!

What majestic worship! What a wonderful way to start each day! Let's try, in our minds, to hear the people singing as we consider each of these wonderful songs of worship. Then let's make them the basis of our own worship as well.

With that in mind, I'd like to suggest the following practical approach. Begin with prayer: ask your heavenly Father for understanding. Then open your bible and read a psalm, slowly and carefully. Than read these comments, and, finally, tell God what you learned and thank Him for it.

U.K. 12.30p.m.

"It is a good and delightful thing to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises (with musical accompaniment) to Your Name, O Most High" Ps.92:1.

Thankyou Al. I have been having a look at the Psalms this week (how did you know) and my son fetched me another version "The Amplified" which is illuminating.

My son is away this weekend and no visitors, as yet so I am going to sit and read some Psalms and read slowly as you instruct.  This must be a message for me from the Lord today.
I can already envisage the pilgrims climbing the hill, drawing nearer and nearer to the Temple..."Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, in whose heart are the highways to Zion".Ps 84:5...a favourite Psalm of mine...especially when I am down "in the valley of the weeper.....I make it a place of springs" Amen!

I hope you are feeling a lot better and I do thank the Lord for your ministry. I need it.

Every blessing in Christ Jesus to you and your loved ones.
Jenny.

Al, I too love your suggestion where you say...

In that vein I'd like to suggest the following practical approach:

That's a good suggested list to follow when studying anything.  Thanks for that Al.

Pastor.  I love to listen to recordings of Cantor Catz...He's the one that sang the Schema (Prayer for the dead) in the concentration camp and the Germans set him free...It gives me goose bumps!

The important thing, Jenny, is that He's still the same God!  He will still do these things!

Jenny, Pat, Etta Sue, & all others who read here.  If you read this and really like it, please communicate with Multnoman Publishers in Oregon and tell them so.  Mention that you know Al would be glad to have them publish it and that they can read it on here.  Thanks.
P.S. I've sent them an email to that effect already, but received no answer.

Yes, Pat, they do have a website.  I don't remember its url, but I originally got it by going to "google" and doing a search through it.  It was right up near the top.
