Morning Devotional...

He called the name of that place Beth-el.
Gen.  28:19

He built there an altar, and called the place El-beth-el.
Gen 35:7

When God spoke to Jacob at a place called Luz, Jacob changed the name to Beth-el, the "house of God".

Through the many years that followed, God proved Himself wholly faithful to Jacob. He was even able to say that he had seen God face to face (Gen. 32:30).

Returning to Beth-el, Jacob changed the name to "El-beth-el", "The God of the House of God". Jacob realized the importance of The Person rather than The Place.

Surely we will never forget the Place called Calvary, but oh to be occupied with the Person called Christ!
-A. Fiebig

My heart is full of Christ,
and longs its glorious matter to declare,
Of Him I make my loftier songs
and cannot from His praise forbear.

Hi everyone. Pat, a very good devotional this morning and it does such a good job of reminding us that we should never let Jesus out of our sight as the source of our salvation.

Pat woke up dizzy yesterday and it continued all day.  It wasn't quite as bad this morning but she still has some dizziness.  Despite that she managed to put together a good meal for today and our son and daughter-in-law will be over around 2 pm to share it with us.
We were going to hire someone to pressure wash the outside of our house (it has vinyl siding so never needs painting) but our son has a pressure washer so we will give the work to him.  He will do a good job and know he will be able to use the money.

I am sitting here watching the news coverage of the pending disaster headed to New Orleans and all of that area.  They are saying there will be wave surges as high as 20 feet high.  I can't even imagine what this will be like.  We have relatives in that area that I know of but am concerned for all the poor folks whose lives will be totally turned upside down.

Marilyn, I hope you have a lot of sales of your painting at the show.  Certainly glad to hear that Beth is having such a wonderful time.  It is wonderful that this kind and caring person has come into her life at this very difficult time to add sunshine and hope for her.

Judy McKenna, the brain tumor my friend has is very slow acting.  We think we are seeing some deterioation over a period of time but he is still very cheerful and says he feels ok.  He has become very childlike however in that he basically is dependent on his wife and his friends.  Our lives have been enriched by our opportunity to interact with him on a daily basis.  He gives far more than he gets from us.

Karmat, it is fun to watch the little ones deny they are tired and then just fall asleep.  They don't want to miss anything as everything must be exciting at this point in their lives.

Etta Sue, it is wonderful you are developing such a good friendship with Kitty.

Pat, it sounds like your computer room is about in complete order now, or at least everything is working again.  I am hoping our son will be able to get a couple of things working over here today that seem to be beyond my ability or, at least, patience.

Ruth Ann, glad you are able to look in from the borrowed computer.

Nita, we are beginning to see the change of seasons down here in terms of cooler nights and mornings.

Carol, a three mile walk is a long ways.  Glad you both are able to do that.

It will soon be time to leave for church.  Pat has decided she doesn't want to get out this morning due to the dizziness.  Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Good day and a Happy Lord's day to you all, this is John again, Beth's friend from New York. We thought we'd stop in and say Hi. Today is Beth's birthday. I know She's a lady and I really shouldn't say her age but it is her 43rd She says she feels it today too. not sure of what we will do today except that we will go out to Dinnner.Beth sends her love to all of you and thanks you all for your prayers. just wanted to update you all, God Bless all of you.

Good Morning I am listening to  a sermon on getting that day of rest. Complete quite no TV no Radio no Noise Just you and God.  I haven't had a day like that in years. I turn on the TV for noise and He is saying that is not good.

Larry sorry to hear that Pat is so dizzy. I have had days like that with my Benign Paroxymal Vertigo.(BPV) It has been about a year since it acted up. I pray  she will find out the cause.

Thank you at for the devotional.

JudyB I got a very short email from Ria in Dutch I don't know what it says. i know that she and Jenny correspond in Dutch, Jenny has a book that helps her learn the language.

Brrrrrrr.........cold this morning.

Marilyn, I agree with whoever was preaching/teaching about silence.  We are a generation of noise!   This gift of being silent is, in my opinion, one of the greatest losses to the church.  We are always looking without......while all the time, God lives within us.  I think we are afraid of absolute sustained silence.  Jesus went to the mountains to pray.  He understood the need for being absolutely alone with His Father.   If we won't embrace the silence, we will never listen to what God whispers.

That's what I believe anyway......and the process to this end has been a winding road.  Many times it has been an either/ or.......listen to man, or listen to God.  He will take us through rivers, valleys, deserts, mountain tops, paved highways, dirt roads, and occasionally He gives wings and we find ourselves gloriously flying for a season.  I believe all these seasons are ordered for us.....in love.....so that we might learn to hear.  And that brings me back to silence.  It is so seldom that we can find absolute silence.  We need to grab and embrace it whenever God brings it to us.

Happy Birthday, dear Beth!!! ;D

love, nita

From Every Stormy Wind
(Click to hear music)

Author:  Hugh Stowell, 1799-1865
Musician: Thomas Hastings, 1784-1872

And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with
thee from above the mercy seat, from between
the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony,
of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.
Exodus 25:22

From every stormy wind that blows,
From every swelling tide of woes,
There is a calm, a sure retreat;
'Tis found beneath the mercy seat.

There is a place where Jesus sheds
The oil of gladness on our heads;
A place than all besides more sweet;
It is the blood bought mercy seat.

There is a scene where spirits blend,
Where friend holds fellowship with friend;
Though sundered far, by faith they meet
Around one common mercy seat.

There, there, on eagles' wings we soar,
And time and sense seem all no more;
And heaven comes down, our souls to greet,
And glory crowns the mercy seat.

Oh, let my hand forget her skill,
My tongue be silent, cold, and still,
This bounding heart forget to beat,
If I forget the mercy seat!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BETH!

Good Morning from a cooler Vancouver Island.  Guess Jane finally remembered to turn down the heat ;)  We had wonderful weather for the Fair yest. and for the Sr. Games during the week.  God has really been sending blessings along:

Our little band of four ladies, armed with 28 names on a petition, has not only stopped the cutting that would have opened the way for their road thro' our cul-de-sac, but has permanently changed the place the road is going.  So children and pets can be safe, quiet can remain, and the property value will remain stable.  Some people might try to take credit and say it was only a coincidence that the four people, plus one who did the most and had to go to Vanc. on business trip, are all Christians (and ladies at that).  Of course those of us here know that it was God who answered prayers and most definately not the work of 'intelligent design'.....

Not to stop there, Amanda and her girlfriend were contacted by the college and can get one of their courses, two days per week, and that is surely better than nothing.  Perhaps God will also allow Amanda to go get her full courses next term and get started on her university path.

I have also put two of her art works that were entered at the Fair...the missing Eagle and a Pencil Portrait....they are in my gallery here and at Photo Cafe.  A prominent artist saw her work and he wants to meet her....was most impressed.  That could lead to better private art lessons.  She has reached a much higher level and needs to keep sharp for College.

Developing is going on by leaps here on the island.  Bear Mtn.  with two Jack Nicklaus Golf Courses, 1,100 houses, hotels, condos, a 180,000 sq. ft. Clubhouse in a Whistler style village.  16 Golf Courses are planned on the island, huge developments around them, even in the small town where I used to live.....The houses are in the million dollar range....wealth from all over the world has taken over this once quiet and beautiful island.  I personally cannot understand how it can be supported with hydro, water, etc.  Soon, not only the wildlife will be driven out...the average folks will also....We used to complain about strip mining and clear cutting of trees....that was minor compared to what is happening now.  There is a vast difference between normal progress and blind greed!

Goodness, that was rather vocal.  On a happier note, I found this interesting book 'Cat Catalog' in a second hand store and it is really great.  Did not realize that so many famous people loved cats and so many different animals.  Everyone seems to agree that 'In a cat's eyes all things belong to cats.'
Read this cute little poem:

OWNERSHIP

Man's pet, the kitten, lives nine lives;
Man, one: three score and ten.
Man claims the ownership of earth,
Of every glebe and glen.
What modest claims do kittens make:
-----The ownership of men.

Pleasant day and God Bless.

CHANGE NOT THY FAITH WITH CHANGING TIMES

Carol

Pat:  Your song about Stormy Wind is spot on!  What a horrendous storm this is coming to th Gulf Coast.  I feel so sorry for those who are unable to get out of harm's way.  How good to hear that you have everything working right now.

We had a wonderful service last night with pastor and his wife - she assisted and sang and then they sang together part of the service.  They have a baby and I have not seen her very much as with three services, she should not have to listen to the sermons over and over.  Pastor's wifes should have a good support system and not be judged by their clothes, what groups they choose to join or visit and so forth.  It is a really tough life for a pastor and family and sometimes church members want to place their pastors on a pedestal.  I know this - having been a church secretary at several huge churches in Texas and Colorado.

Just in for a moment . I want to thank you for your prayers. I had liberty of spirit in both morning and evening worship today. I was taken in as an "emergency" speaker but gave onlya little of  what the Lord has given me. I do pray that God will bless that fellowship in the days and months that lie ahead.
                              Sorry for not being a regular on this wonderful site I shall try to come in more often in the future. Thank you again for your prayers and kindness.

Loving His Appearing (#20050828)
by Henry Morris, Ph.D.
"Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing" (II Timothy 4:8 ).
It is fascinating to learn that the Lord has a special reward for all those who "love His appearing." The word "appearing" (Greek, epiphaneia) can refer to either the first or second advent of Christ, depending on the context. Paul urges us to be "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ" (Titus 2:13). For "the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ
. . . hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light" (II Timothy 1: 10).

Our text for the day obviously refers to His Second Coming "at that day," exhorting us not only to look for, but to love His appearing! At that great day, "the Lord, the righteous judge" will award to those who have loved His appearing a special crown of righteousness. We have already received the imputed "gift of righteousness" (Romans 5:17) by His grace, and have been "made the righteousness of God in Him" (II Corinthians 5:21), so this crown of righteousness somehow must be (as a wreath encircling the head of a victor in a race) an enveloping glow of divine appreciation for a godly life lived in daily anticipation of the Lord's return.

The apostle John beautifully expressed the way in which such a life, loving Christ's coming, produces a growing righteousness now and perfected righteousness then. "And now, little children, abide in Him; that, when He shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. . . . We know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is. And every man that hath this hope in Him purifieth himself, even as He is pure" (I John 2:28; 3:2-3). HMM

Watch the billboard change.  Great messages there.

Today was standing room only at both of the services I attended.  You sure can tell that the kids are back in school.  Great to see so many people attend church.  I know God is smiling on Park Chapel.

Since September 11th is the beginning of a new format in the church, I came home and made some new labels for the audio cassettes.  I think they look pretty nice but I will have to try them out next week to see.  I make the MASTER labels  a week ahead of time so they will be ready in case I can't get there...one never knows.

Just got back from prayer meeting and I am hungry, got to wait at least 15 minutes before I can eat.

Had a wonderful time of prayer, I love going to the sanctuary to pray. There is music playing and everyone is doing their own thing in prayer ie seated, kneeling, laid out on the floor, walking whatever  it takes.

Well that is it for tonight. I am goign to crochet a little after I eat and just relax.

I have been away for a few days and still have not caught up on the reading but I would like to say thanks to those that answered my question about prints from our digital cameras. You have confirmed everything that I have been told from friends and also a web site that a store in Orangeville has. For those that might like to check it out it is www.fstopcameras.ca It gives me confidence that it is ok to place orders on-line.  I have not been to the store but I have been told that they also give local workshops.  Pat I will give walmart a try as well.
