Morning Devotional...

When We Don't Know
Hebrews 11: 8 - 19 (NKJV)

8By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. 9By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.

11By faith Abraham, even though he was past age—and Sarah herself was barren—was enabled to become a father because he considered him faithful who had made the promise. 12And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.

13All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. 14People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. 15If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. 16Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

17By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, 18even though God had said to him, "It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned." 19Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death.

Walking in faith often means that we walk without knowing where we are going, only that He is going with us.

Walking in faith often means that we walk without knowing where we are going, only that He is going with us

Yes, so true.  I'd love to say that I am totally surrendered and obey without a thought of myself.  But we give Him our life and trust Him to make it into what pleases Him.

I do know I've come to a place where not many things matter anymore.  Jane and I have talked about this.....about coming to this place of not having to defend yourself, explain yourself, taking no thought for tomorrow, letting  plans for the day be changed in an instant, and giving no care to this.  We belong to the Lord, and our commitment is to Him alone.  We love who He loves and go where He goes and serve who He serves.  I guess this is a walk of faith, but I've never been so dead before. :)  Just a little dead, I know, but more than at any other time in my life.  Praise You, Lord.  I could never do this.  We can't make ourselves anything, but we rest in Your plans for us.

Tonight my car goes into the garage.  There isn't room to close the doors, but at least the windows won't be frozen when I take Angel to school in the morning.  It's been cold all day!

Jane, you have been busy cleaning your walls.  I need to clean windows and woodwork.  That's a Spring job, you say? haha  I can wait.  My company is all family and they don't care.

We are so blessed in Christ.  nita

Jane Walker

Nita, you always say it so well ... whatever "it" is.   :)  So true that we have come to this place by separate paths but it is all about being dead to self and alive IN Christ.  Things really don't matter any more ... I s'pose it is a life of faith, but it's all I know.

And LIFE is good!!

Yup, all that work ... ugh ... is otherwise known as "Spring cleaning" isn't it?  If not, I am making new rules ... always put off til tomorrow what you could do today.   ;)

I'll be back to talk atcha later ... it's time to get to bed -- or something.

Oh ... Anthony -- You can c'mona  my house just any ol' time.  I'll make coffee or tea or whatever you prefer.   :)

Nite all ... or is that Nytol?  hmmm   :-\
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Anthony

It was nice to read about Abraham's faith this morning, and how true that we don't always know where God is taking us.  Reading about men like Abraham strengthens our faith knowing that ehat God did for him, he is willing to do for us - faith comes from hearing and hearing from the word of God.

I have not got too much planned today apart from housework and shopping.  My car goes in for a service tomorrow (a little overdue).  I am off to the gym this morning for an hours workout.  I hope y'all have a great day today.

God bless,

Anthony.
"He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things."

Pat

Thank you so much, for the reminder today that "by faith", Karma!  Oh that we could all reach a point of walking in our life  completely "by faith".

Good morning, everyone!  Walking by faith is indeed a condition that is sometimes hard to come to.  I usually don't have the right perspective, myself.

Good to see all of you :)  I hope you all have a great day.

Nita ~ It tried to record a message with the recorder on my computer and my mic isn't working.  Probably one of the cats cut their teeth on it and probably the reason Jerry and I quit voice talking on IM before his passing.  But I will see if I can fix the mic or replace it.  Maybe Santa will bring me a mic.

Today is the chiropractor and work on the Victorian Dinner pictures.  My brother and his wife left Florida today to come home so that means I need to get their Christmas ready.  They will be home for a week but during that time, they are going to Michigan and Ohio so won't be HOME all that much.

God Bless You All

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  Wow, it was really cold here this morning, down to 27 degrees.  Fortunately the cafe was warm until a lot of people started arriving and the door was repeatedly opened.  However, it is sunny today and I don't have to get out anymore today except to get the mail and bring the trash can back form the curb.

I want to write the article I have promised to write for the lady at the library on a book I have reviewed.  I can't say I read the book because it isn't that type of book.  It is a book called "1001 Incredible Things To Do on the Internet" by Ken Leelow.  I also need to check out some software I agreed to try and write up a review on.  So it looks like today is a writing day or at least a planned writing day.

Etta Sue, unless you don't like to wear earphone, I would recommend you get a headset with a microphone built in.  I recently got a Logitech Premium Stereo Headset.  It is great, has wonderful sound and a separate volume control, and the microphone folds up and out of the way when not in use.  It was not expensive, only $19.95 and it is a brand that probably would be available at Wal-Mart.  The headset eliminates feedback from your speakers when you use a handheld microphone.

Janet, I fear I may have hurt you with my comment yesterday about the way we men were.  I should have also added that we actually appreciate concern, such as you had exhibited and I am sure Darrel understood your frustration considering the timing.  Actually I had met the comment as a more "tongue in cheek" statement about men in general than referring to your specific situation.  Please accept my apology for such bad timing of my comment.  Janet, so saddened regarding the heartbreak that your friend, Pat, is experiencing.  I certainly pray that there has been no permanent damage to her daughter.

Jane, you are just getting an early start to your spring cleaning and when spring arrives you will have it done.  This reminds me of my mother, who was such a meticulous housekeeper that she cleaned everything (and I mean everything) every spring and fall.  Sure glad I didn't pick up that habit.

Karmat, thanks for the devotional today.  I often think that I am glad I don't know in advance where this path of life is going to take me.

Marilyn, sorry that you have to make an extra trip for your car repair.  It seems this is a common problem.

Ruthie, I take it hat you have mandatory retirement by age in your place of employment or was this your option.  You will love being retired.  Just stay busy.

Good to see everyone posting today.

Pat

Hey Larry, you sure are doing a lot of writing.  Wow!  That's great though.

I've been busy going to events here in Guelph the past couple of weeks taking photos for a new newspaper called Snap!  I've sure been enjoying it.

Good Morning Thank you Karma for the wonderful devotion on the Faith of Abraham. That is one of my favorite parts of scripture.

Well this morning I am off again to the Body Shop. I got home just after midnight from babysitting the grand kids. Before I left Blue Lake we had to hose down the windows which were frozen. They are like that again this morning. well it is winter I guess I should expect that every day.

I have already done one load of my own laundry and another is in the washer, I will leave shortly and be on my way for the day.

Good to see those who have already posted. Hi Nards Larry Pat, Jane, Nita, Etta Sue, et al.

Good morning!  Wheh, it's coooold.  Cold for here, anyway.  I pulled the car out of the garage at 7 am, and took Angel to school about 8 am.  My windows had started freezing in just that hour.  We have sunshine now, so everything will be thawed soon.  Looking out my back window, I can see all my flowers are wilted and probably dead from this last freeze.  Next attention they get will be in the Spring when I start pulling up and trimming and getting ready for the new season.

But now...we're in THIS season:  I need to get up to my decorations soon or Christmas will be here and gone and I'll go undecorated.  I wouldn't mind, but maybe my grandaughter would.  And I'm not sure, but my grandson, Kyle, might be here too.

Have a blessed day everyone.  Nita

Janet

I am pretty late in getting here again this morning.  I went and had an hour and a half workout, which always makes me feel better.  And I have tonight's dinner in the crockpot.  Diane and Abby are coming up for supper and to have Christmas with Beth before she leaves.  Jeff has a business dinner, so he can't be here. (Dinner/supper/EVENING meal!)

Oh, Larry!  Please don't feel bad about your comment!  No, you didn't hurt my feelings at all, and what you said is so true!  But then, I also think most wives don't like to be quizzed too closely about their time, either.  Anyway...((((hugs)))) to you, and I still love you, brother.  It sounds as if you are being an author today!  :)  You have so many talents!

Nita, I am working to become more surrendered, too.  I heard on the radio last night about a Romanian Christian evangelist who was quizzed by an American pastor about his views of American Christians.  The man had spent considerable time in America.  Anyway, he said that we here in our country have a new word----committment.  Committment is good, but we have allowed it to replace the old word---surrender.  To be committed is not a bad thing, but we still have the control.  WE decide what we want to commit to; wheras in surrender, we turn it all over to the Lord, and do what HE tells us to do.  I thought it was an interesting discussion, with a lot of truth.

Ruthie, are you retiring?  Moving?  What?? (Inquiring minds want to know!)  ;)

I need to run errands for/with Beth today.  So many loose ends before she leaves early Thursday.  I'm praying for good roads when I take her to the Garden City airport in the very early morning.

GOOD NEWS!!  Pat's daughter Alisha is all right, physically anyway.  They allowed her to go home with her grandmother about midnight last night, but told her she must follow up with counseling.  Pat is relieved and is not going down there just now.  She says Alisha will not talk to anyone; and that's a lot of her problem.  She's had a lot of problems through the years, and of course Pat is greatly concerned for her little granddaughter because the mother is not being responsible.  Thank you for praying for them.

Karma---wonderful devotional today!  ((((hugs))))  Love you, girl! <3

Pat, I'm glad you are doing photography for that paper.  I've always told you you have a talent for photo-journalism!  Good going!

I need to get busy or I will never get to the bottom ot the list!

Does anyone know of a "Julia" that might be on Christian Photographers and want to add me to her Skype contacts?  I just got the request, but denied it.  I don't know who it is. It was partly in German(looked like that)with an English translation.  Maybe Skypes is like msn or yahoo messenger, where other people try to get you to add them.  If this is someone we know, let me know. ok?  Thanks.  nita

Jane Walker

I'm a bit late getting here today cuz I "found" another room that needed an application of Liquid Gold and elbow grease.   ::)

Also, I want to add something to the conversation on living by faith....
I have been hoarding my small supply of wood recently but when I received a bit more at Thanksgiving I thought I would just go ahead and burn the wood and trust that more would arrive when I needed it.  Sure enough, this morning my friend called and asked about the wood.  She said her husband could bring me some this afternoon or, if I could make it until Saturday, he would come then.  I can make it until Saturday.     This is indeed living by faith.

Another thing: I have been trying to "make do" with my hair getting longer and straighter and needing another perm or something done to help it look decent.  I just couldn't find the extra cash to manage getting it fixed.  It seems just when I think I might have a couple dollars to spare someone or something needs it!  Well, yesterday I received the notification that my Social Security check will be $21 more starting next month.   I'm going to plan on getting a new perm!   :D

Thanks, Karma, for the great reminder this morning <sorry I didn't say that sooner   :-[ >

I need to get some more wood in for the fire ... I'll be back.

Hi Nita...

I deny everyone I don't know and I've had several.  Most of them are European sounding and some just go ahead and phone too but I don't reply.

Better safe than sorry.

I had someone request for me to approve them today and I also denied them since I do not know who they are. My neighbor from across the street is here putting some roofing material down on my front porch to keep me from sliding on the ice in the early mornings. It was quite slippery this morning.

Good evening everyone - or good morning or good afternoon, whereveryou are.  :D

Cold and windy today - never got above 25 F and the wind chill brought it down even more.  Part of the joy of living in the "north country".

I checked out Skype but I don't have a mic so I'll have to wait.  And with four new tires coming up this week....

Thanks for your replies about Skype.  I guess I never thought of anyone else being able to get your info.  But then....wasn't that silly? lol  The internet is bigger than CP and SN. haha

Marilyn, you have a nice neighbor.

Jane, that's great about the call about more wood. Did you get it yet?  Our Father is always on time.  You've always said that.  He doesn't bring what you don't need today, when He's teaching you about walking a life of surrender. :)

Yes, even our commitment is sometimes just a commitment to our own plans.  Even in ministry.....if God hasn't asked us to do that, or called us into that position of spiritual authority, I've found it's better to be known as UNcommited than to run, and find yourself running away from God.  And we know that if our Master hasn't called us to do something, and we move into that ministry (service)we're simply in our own strength and our only "authority" is what man has given us.  Spiritual authority  changes things.  It's given by God to His true servants for His will to be accomplished.  We don't see it often, and always recognize it when we do.
