Morning Devotional...

. . . He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him. . . .
Isaiah 53:5

When I found my son dying, crushed underneath his car, my first impulse was to remove the car. All I could think and say was, "You are my son; I love you."

At the start of our Lord's ministry here on earth, His Father said, "This is My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased" (Mt. 3:17). God loved His Son, yet in order to free us from our burden of sin, He left the burden on His Son--and He willingly bore it.

Out of love for my son, I wanted to remove the load.

Out of love for me, God left the load on His Son and there He died, crushed beneath the awful curse of my sins.

And Can it Be That I Should Gain[/u]
(Click to hear music]

Suddenly there was a great earthquake,
so that the foundations of the prison were shaken;
and immediately all the doors were opened
and everyone's chains were loosed.
Acts 19:26

Words: Charles Wesley, Psalms and Hymns, 1738.
Music: "Sagina," Thomas Campbell, 1835

And can it be that I should gain
An interest in the Savior's blood!
Died He for me who caused His pain!
For me who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

'Tis mystery all: th'Immortal dies!
Who can explore His strange design?
In vain the firstborn seraph tries
To sound the depths of love divine.
'Tis mercy all! Let earth adore;
Let angel minds inquire no more.
'Tis mercy all! Let earth adore;
Let angel minds inquire no more.

He left His Father's throne above
(so free, so infinite His grace!),
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam's helpless race.
'Tis mercy all, immense and free,
For O my God, it found out me!
'Tis mercy all, immense and free,
For O my God, it found out me!

Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
Fast bound in sin and nature's night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray;
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine;
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach th'eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Bold I approach th'eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

Hi everyone.

I have tried my hand at some scripture verses with photos today.  Some of you have really great artistic abilities so any advice would be gratefully accepted.

Has anyone on CP seen the Passion and have a view on it?

Maria

Hi everyone.  Have just a few minutes before I need to leave to walk at the "Y" so will do a short posting.  This will be a fairly busy day as our classes start at the SeniorNet Computer Learning Center.  I am coaching for the Quicken class from 11:20 until 1:20.  This is the first time I have coached this class but have used Quicken for several years and it is a neat program.

Sonja, our daughter-in-law has something called AVN, which is a form of oeseo-necrosis.  This means that the bone below her knee is dying.  This is a very painful disease and she may also have the same problems in her hips as they are hurting a lot and her ankles.

She had a growth taken out of the other knee several weeks ago and it was to be biopsied but the doctor's office failed to send it to the lab and then couldn't find the tissue.  She is to walk very little as the leg is subject to giving way and any injury sight from a fall could cause the disease to begin at that area.

Pat

Good Morning All...

I'm just about to walk out the door for the trip to London.  Actually, I'm a few minutes late but I'm sure I'll be fine.

I'll chat with you all later...

God bless you all...

Quickly, before I leave for work:

Gareth, yes I saw the Passion of the Christ. Hope to see it again. Not only did the pain and anguish that Christ suffered hurt my heart and leave me forever thankful for His love and sacrifice for us, but as a mother, I looked upon Him as if I were enduring the pain as his mother, and how deeply was my soul hurt by watching that terrible agony.

Ria, I've meant to tell you several times recently and keep forgetting. Your English is great and I really appreciate hearing from you. Your visits to nursing homes certainly are appreciated both by them and by me. So, I say, "Thank you" for the ones who cannot say so themselves.

Larry, although I do not have your daughter in law's disease, I fell often for an extended period of many months. Those falls are painful. And, I'm thankful she has y'all to help support her as she endures this.

Y'all have a good day. I'll be working many long hours this week, so may not be here very often. Just know that the prayers can continue while I work - I think I'm blessed to work an occupation where my Saviour and I can commune silently as I sit at my computer.

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Good Monday morning,

Pat, thank you especially for the song, "Can it be that I should gain."  We sing that song often where we worship, a beautiful song.

Good to see Gareth, Ria, Larry H., Ruth Ann, and of course, Pat, this morning.

We had rain all night last night and some stormy weather,  3 inches of rain.  It seems to have let up right now.  The owner of the home where we are staying called yesterday to say the company would come Tuesday to install a new heating system for the pool.  I haven't been swimming now for several days but looks like I will enjoy the pool the last few days of our vacation.

We had a good day yesterday, beautiful singing, an excellent sermon, and a time when we really experienced the resurrection of Christ.

Rom 1:1-4
1   Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God--
2   the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures
3   regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David,
4   and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.

Carol

Good Easter Monday to all,

What beautiful music we listened to during services and it was fantastic to see so many young people.  We just stayed in Arizona for two months in a senior park and I didn't realize how much I missed the youthful engery and spark.

Pat:  It sounds like you have a busy day today, take care.

Jane:  If you check in, I wanted to write that I sometimes feel the same as my posts are not daily as well.

Judy:  LOL on signing your name to a "Secret" card.

Janice:  Yes, you need to care for yourselves and needed a day of rest.  We had snow on Saturday and then again on Sunday night so Sunday was chilly but everyone was able to drive here for a good visit.

Larry:  Blessings to your DIL as she goes through this medical problem.

Strange what you hear when the children are talking, as I just found out that our youngest son fainted last week after over-exercising at their gym and he hadn't been drinking enough water, very tired from the previous night and so forth - unusual to say the least and I don't know why we are the last to hear these things.  He is fine and of course it was embarassing as he had just stepped out of the communal shower - other young men there to help him.

We had a terrific dinner with pork ribs seasoned with Thai sauce and a ham cooked in cola, asparagus, a spinach salad - I made the meats and rolls plus a few other things.  Sweet potatoes of course.  Kids played LaCrosse outdoors and ran onto the golf course until we actually saw golfers and then we had to shag them home - they had eyes glued to a hockey game as well.

Gareth:  We did see "Passion" and want to go again.  Impressed by the number of young couples at the movie.  As for Don and myself, we are still thoughtful of the scenes and it did not seem anti-jewish to us.  I closed my eyes at times and the sound effects still jarred me to the bones.  The place was totally quiet as we left.  Have you seen the movie?

Marilyn

Good Morning:
Gareth I too saw the Passion, I went with Brother Al and Marbeth. It hurt my heart deeply to see the cruelty of the Roman Soldiers and the suffering that my Jesus went through for MY sins. I didn't see and anti-semitism, or anti-Catholic or anit-anything, just a wonderful film.

Ria Good morning Sister. How are you feeling today? Are you still having problems with your eyes and the headaches?

Have a safe trip to London Pat. Be careful.

Gareth ~ I have seen 'The Passion of the Christ' twice and want to buy the VHS/DVD when it comes out.  I bought the book Mel Gibson has out that shows wonderful stills of the movie.  I have heard over $3M has been made.  That makes me happy to know that many people has seen the movie.  I don't see how anyone could NOT be touched when seeing this movie.

I didn't get back in here yesterday.

Jerry and I got to church early.  We do the duplicating of the services on audio cassette.  Neither of us were there last Sunday...I was on my way home from Carthage, Missouri and Jerry was afraid to drive the 25 miles and back since he doesn't drive much due to his stroke last July.  Well, we got to church.  Seems the other person that knows the duplicating ministry wasn't there last week either...his MIL passed away the night before.  So we had many, many requests for last week and the previous weeks services.  Jerry and I got them all caught up and went in the sanctuary to the first service.

The auditorium holds 600+ people sitting down.  It was packed!  Adults and teens sang and played instruments.  The sermon was done by the Senior minister AND the Youth minister....tag ministering, they called it.  An awesome message.  Jerry and I duplicated 36 cassettes for the first service and then left.

We want to have Chinese for lunch.  The one Chinese place that we really like in Greenfield had changed back to primarily being a take-out place.  So we went to Anderson and had Chinese there.

I felt like driving so I drove east until I had to turn, then south until I had to turn..(Okay, you folks!!!  Indiana's road system is primarily north/south and east/west road in central Indiana)  Anyway, we got to the highway that Jerry lives on only far east and I asked him if he would like to see if his sister and BIL was home.  So we went to Piqua, Ohio.  They were home and we had a wonderful visit.  Then we were hungry again and had Mexican for dinner.  It was 8:30 p.m. when I got back home!!!

What a wonderful day!!!  Thank you, God!

My goodness!  I looked out the window when I got up, and what did I see?  WHITE STUFF on the ground!  :-\ :'( :'(  This does NOT make me happy, since all our fruit trees are in bloom, and some already have tiny fruits on them.  Trying to grow fruit here is very discouraging.

Larry, I had not heard of that medical condition your DIL has.  Darrel has a niece who has what they call
"stone leg" where the bone calcifies and turns to stone.  She is in her 40s and it hasn't yet caused her to need crutches or a walker, so must not be as aggressive as your DIL has.  I'm so sorry there are those problems in your family.

Papa John, I was going to go swim today, decided to call first, and when I asked what the temperature of the water was, she said 75 degrees!!  Yikes!  (So I went back to bed!)
They have become very careless about taking care of the pool, because their mill levy was lowered and they are angry about it.  So on weekends, they just close, and no one even bothers to stop by and check on things.  Not good!  I do hope you get to enjoy the pool there before time to go back home!

Pat, I hope you have a pleasant drive to and from London today, and have good results from your dental visit.

Etta Sue, sounds like you had a really good day yesterday.  Say hello to Jerry for me!

Hello to Marilyn and Carol!  Good to "see" both of you today!

Ria, I always enjoy your posts, and you are doing SO well with your English!  If I attempted to even say "hello" in Dutch, I couldn't!  I am so proud of you!

Gareth, I have seen The Passion twice and will see it again when I can.  It is a very powerful movie---one to be experienced, rather than enjoyed.  I knew, when there was so much opposition to it before its release, that God must have great plans for it, and it is making a difference in many lives.  I would recommend it to anyone.

Hey there, Soni Baloney!!  Got a busy day today?

Greetings to you, dear Ruth Ann, and I wish you a blessed day!

This is one of my lovely songs:

    Take my life, and let it be
    consecrated, Lord , to Thee;
    take my moments and my days,
    let them flow in ceaseless praise.

    Take my hands, and let them move
    at the impulse of thy love;
    take my feet, and let them be
    swift and beautiful for Thee.

    Take my voice, and let me sing
    always, only, for my King;
    take my lips, and let them be
    filled with message from Thee.

    Take my silver and my gold,
    not a mite would i withhold;
    take my intellect, and use
    every power as thou shalt choose.

    Take my will, and make it Thine:
    it shall be no longer mine.
    Take my heart - it is Thine own;
     it shall be Thy royal throne.

    Take my love; my Lord, i pour
     at thy feet its treasure-store;
    take myself, and i will be,
    ever, only, all for thee.

                           Francis Ridley Havergal (1836-1879)

In the time that i was writing this song i also was singing it.

Hello all!!

Just running through to say hi.  Been kinda busy at work today, so the time has really gone by fast!

Almost time to go home, though ;D

<smilies work here, so it must be my browser at home  :-X)

have a great day ya'll.  Maybe later I can tell you about our service at church yesterday; it was cool!!

Ruthie

Pat that was a wonderful devotional today.   I use that verse in Isaiah that talks about how all our iniquities were laid on Jesus when I talk to people in EE.   I also say how "It pleased God to bruise Him"   How wonderful that Jesus suffered all that for us.   Praise His Holy Name!

I will post again later.

Love Ruthie

Prayer: Not Asking for Anything

I love the Lord, because He has heard my voice and my supplications.
Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore I will call upon Him
as long as I live.
--Psalm 116:1-2

I think that some of the greatest prayer is prayer where you don't
say one single word or ask for anything. Now God does answer and He
does give us what we ask for. That's plain; nobody can deny that
unless he denies the Scriptures. But that's only one aspect of
prayer, and it's not even the important aspect. Sometimes I go to God
and say, "God, if Thou dost never answer another prayer while I live
on this earth I will still worship Thee as long as I live and in the
ages to come for what Thou hast done already." God's already put me
so far in debt that if I were to live one million millenniums I
couldn't pay Him for what He's done for me.

We go to God as we send a boy to a grocery store with a long written
list, "God, give me this, give me this, and give me this," and our
gracious God often does give us what we want. But I think God is
disappointed because we make Him to be no more than a source of what
we want. Even our Lord Jesus is presented too often much as "Someone
who will meet your need." That's the throbbing heart of modern
evangelism. You're in need and Jesus will meet your need. He's the
Need-meeter. Well, He is that indeed; but, ah, He's infinitely more
than that.
Worship: The Missing Jewel, pp. 24-25

"Father, forgive me for so often just coming to You with my grocery
list. You've been so faithful; You've given me so much; You've
blessed so richly. It's time I just came, realizing my incredible
debt to You, and simply worshipped at Your feet. Amen."

I am sitting here with a lovely cup of Darjeeling Tea. Mmm I like it.

I put my application at the new Assisted Living Facility that is going up here in Mckville. When I turned it in they said all the positions had already been filled  but that didn't mean they would stay filled. I am believing God for good news on this. Praise the Lord for answered prayers. Pat, I'm glad to hear you have finished with all that dental work.

We will soon wind down this Florida stay.  This Saturday we will be driving back to Tennessee.

Ps 1:1-6
1   Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.

Margit - excellent message (I assume it's by A.W. Tozer, whom I much admire).  It's certainly true that much of what passes for Christianity today is enthralled with what it think it  gets from Christ while never being enthralled with Christ Himself.  Oh that we would love Him for what He is and not just for what we think we can get from Him.  Oh that we might fully relate to the passage in Revelation that says, "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing!"  Let us answer as did all the creatures of earth, "Blessing and honor and glory and power be to Him Who sits on the throne, and the the Lamb, forever and ever!" (4:11-14)
We need our souls turned inside out - to cease looking at self and to begin looking at Him.

"But God Who commanded the light to shine out of darkness has shined in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the Face of Jesus Christ."

Awww, Pat!  Too bad you're going to have to give up all those exciting trips to sit there and have your teeth worked on.

My dryer has been sounding strange lately - Gene thought it was a belt getting ready to break.  This morning, with a fresh load of wet clothes, there was a loud thump and the drum stopped turning.  Good thing it was mild and the ground had pretty well dried out, so I could hang outside.   :(  So Gene took the access panel off and discovered it wasn't the belt at all, but the drive belt idler pulley.  Now, you need to know we bought this dryer, rebuilt, in 1993 so I guess you could say it doesn't owe us anything.

Gene went back to the place we bought it, hoping they'd have a replacement part.  No, of course not.  BUT... they did have another almost identical one, rebuilt, of course, for $145.  Since our laundry space is very, very limited the only way we can have a dryer is with a stacked configuration and a new dryer that would fit on top of my front loading washer would cost at least $400.  So we grabbed the rebuilt one and will get it tomorrow.  The Lord is good.

Thank you for the devotional Pat.  I can relate in wanting to take away the load from my tiny daughter.  The constant pain and the hurt she feels when people stand and stare at the slow and painful way that she must walk.  All we can do is trust God.

This has been another sad day.  Wendy & Ralph went to Victoria and I was busy washing clothes, etc.  Then Amanda came down crying, saying that her prize bunnie died giving birth to a baby.  So I found a nice towel, box, etc. and had her hold the bunnie, then put in to rest, waiting for Ralph to dig yet another grave.  This being a resident Grama is certainly hard on the nervous system....at my age!!

Strange thing is that another rabbit has been trying to make a home under the hutch.  We didn't think it was wild as it liked people.  However, was bothering the others.  So trapped it and it now has a home here.  Amanda said it liked to be petted, so must not be wild.  What a day!!!!

Easter dinner went well and everyone enjoyed the ham, veggies, salad , pumpkin pie and whipped cream.  Sent lots home with Ralph's uncle and gave an extra pie and the ham to the kids.  I eat mostly veggies these days.  The good news is that Wendy said we can go to church at the Alliance Church next Sunday.....all things going well.  So consider that an answer to prayer.  I do so long to be part of a church again.

Ria, thank you for your wonderful posts.  Oswald Chambers is correct in saying that neither natural love nor God's divine love will remain and grow, unless it is nurtured.

Thanks also to Margit, Papa John and Pastor Al.  You folks really make my day.

Have a pleasant evening everyone and God Bless.

I read something really cute and it might tickle someone else's funny-bone.....

Written by an eight yr. old boy for his third grade homework assignment.  I will give a short version..

"One of God's main jobs is making people.  He makes them to replace the ones that die so there will be enough people to take care of things on earth.  He doesn't make grown-ups, just babies.  I think because they are smaller and easier to make.  That way, He doesn't have to take-up His valuable time teaching them to talk and walk.  He can just leave that to mothers and fathers.

God's second most important job is listening to prayers.  An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times besides bedtime.  God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or TV because of this.  Because He hears everything there must be a terrible lot of noise in His ears, unless He has thought of a way to turn it off.  God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere, which keeps Him pretty busy.  So you shouldn't go wasting His time by going over your mom and dad's head asking for something they said you couldn't have.

You should always go to church on Sunday because it makes God happy, and if there's anybody you want to make happy, it's God.  Don't skip church to do something you think will be more fun, like going to the beach.  This is wrong!  And, besides, the sun doesn't come out at the beach until noon anyway.

If you don't believe in God, you will be very lonely, because your parents can't go everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can.  It is good to know He's around you when you're scared in the dark or when you can't swim very good and you get thrown into real deep water by big kids.  But you shouldn't just always think of what God can do for you.  I figure God put me here and He can take me back anytime He pleases.

And that's why I believe in God."

Amen to that.

What a short day it seems for me since I was away all day.

I was so sorry to read about Amanda's loss, Liz.  Give her a hug for me.

Now it's time to lock this door!

Here's the link for tomorrow's topic.
