Morning Devotional...

Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out.
Song of Solomon 4:16

C. H. Spurgeon tells of a man who had the words "God is love" painted on his weather vane.

Someone remarked, "That is a strange text to put there. Do you mean that God's love is as changeable as the wind?"

"Oh, no," said the man, "I mean that whichever way the wind blows, God is love."

Whether it be the soft south wind of prosperity, or the cold north wind of adversity, all is sent from His heart of love for our good.
--Jim Flanigan

Sometimes where Eden's bowers bloom,
By waters still, o'er troubled sea,
Still 'tis God's hand that leadeth me.

Musician:  William B. Bradbury, 1816-1868

He leadeth me, O blessèd thought!
O words with heavenly comfort fraught!
Whate'er I do, where'er I be
Still 'tis God's hand that leadeth me.

Refrain

He leadeth me, He leadeth me,
By His own hand He leadeth me;
His faithful follower I would be,
For by His hand He leadeth me.

Sometimes mid scenes of deepest gloom,
Sometimes where Eden's bowers bloom,
By waters still, over troubled sea,
Still 'tis His hand that leadeth me.

Refrain

Lord, I would place my hand in Thine,
Nor ever murmur nor repine;
Content, whatever lot I see,
Since 'tis my God that leadeth me.

Refrain

And when my task on earth is done,
When by Thy grace the victory's won,
E'en death's cold wave I will not flee,
Since God through Jordan leadeth me.

Good morning everyone.  It was nice to read the posts from last night and this morning.

Our daughter, Martha, is flying down from Nashville today to help us with the driving back to Nashville on Saturday.  I am ready to go back home.  After five weeks, which we have enjoyed, I look forward to my own recliner and to my own bed.

Pat, thanks for sharing your visit to the cemetery yesterday.  I know it is sad and yet a comfort to you to visit his burial place and to plant the flowers, etc.  It reminds us that this world is not our home and it won't be very long until we will all be at home with the Lord.

Rev 14:13  Then I heard a voice from heaven say, "Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." "Yes," says the Spirit, "they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them."  (NIV)

I hope you all have a good day today.  We will drive over to the airport in Sarasota to get Martha early this afternoon.

Janet

Good morning!

Eddie, I know how you felt while under attack.  The first time it happened to me, it took some time for me to win over depression; but since then, I am much quicker to recognize the work of the enemy and get the victory over him.  I am so glad you are again walking in the light of God's love, and I wish you every blessing.

No, Ria, Abby isn't my neighbor, but I wish she were!  They live 30 miles from us, and it is great, because anytime I want, I can get into the car and go see them!  Abby had a PLAN yesterday!  She wanted me to come pick her up from school tomorrow and keep her until Sunday.  But I had to disappoint her because tomorrow we are going to be in Dodge City until late at night.  So we will do her plan another time. :'(

Hi there, Ruthie! I hope you are feeling fine again this morning!

Hey, Pat! How are you and my buddy, Geordie?  I love talking to him!  ;D ;D

Today is class day, and before then, I have an antique frame and picture to clean and restore, frames to order, and an engraved plate to order.  So I guess I better get with it!

Tee Hee.  I know it was a somber day for Pat but I had to chuckle when I saw in my mind Pat chasing squirrels in the cemetery...

Larry ~ You do such a great job in commenting to all of us.  Makes us feel special.  You are special for posting a message to each of us.

Ria ~ Both of the girls slept with me last night and neither of them bothered me.  Inky sometimes does this loud purring and wants to get near my face.  She even takes a little paw and very gently touches my face.  I don't like that.  It gives me a funny feeling.  Makes my throat tickle.  Sounds weird but it does.  But I tell Inky...No, INKY!  and she pulls away.  BUT she comes back about the time I am asleep again.  After about three times she gives up and stops.  Last evening she found her green plastic ball with a bell in it.  I know she played with that ball for over two hours.  I haven't seen the ball this morning.

Papa John ~ It does indeed seem like you have been in Florida a very short time.  I know what you mean when you can sleep in your own bed again.  Ivalou and I used to spend 6 weeks at a time at her mobile home on Toledo Bend Resevoir in Louisianna.  We loved the time there but when we knew we were leaving, we were anxious to get back home.

Janet ~ You seem to be so busy all the time.  And here I am wondering if I will get done all I want to do before I have Small Groups here May 18th.

Marilyn ~ I know what you mean about the gas prices.  I put $20 in my Malibu gas tank Sunday evening...first time for $20.  And the prices went up 20 cents since then.

Al ~ GMTA (great minds think alike)  I see you caught Pat in saying she was chasing squirrels, too!!  tee hee

Today is a nothing day.  I have two loads clothes drying on the line outside.  Also I have a couple of windows open.  I love hearing the birds sing and feel the fresh breeze.  I see Jerry is online by my MSN Instant Messenger so as soon as I post, I will say hi to him.  I missed talking to him yesterday.

HAHAHAHA!  WEll, I didn't get as many squirrels as Geordie did.  Well, he didn't really get any but he sure wished he could climb trees!  He did his best though.

Hello Ruth!

Hope you enjoyed the hymn, Eddie.  I also think that the words of "He Leadeth Me" are so special and to know that we're allowing the Lord to lead us is just the best feeling.

Ruthie, I'm sorry that you've been ill and hopefully you're feeling better now.  But that computer has also been causing you grief as well.  I'm so sorry.

Hi Ria...  I so enjoy reading your posts each day.  One of the nice things each morning is to read your posts when I get up.  Yes, it's been three years now--three birthdays without him--but one day we'll be together again.  Yesterday was a lovely day just with Geordie.

Ria, what a beautiful poem...

There are some folks who say, "Jack's gone.  He's dead.  Forget about visiting the grave."  I've even had some say, "It's wrong!"  I don't feel this way.  I don't worship him.  I just remember our good times and our bad time and that cemetery is a lovely place to walk.   Jack and I shared 40 years together and now, it's so lonely without him and sometimes the quietness in this home is so deafening.  One thing that brings me such joy though is CP and I think often of how much he would have enjoyed this site.

And what a wonderful verse you've shared with me, Papa John...  Thanks so much for that.

Hi Janet!  Yes, it's so funny when Geordie hears your voice on Yahoo that he just comes running into this room and barks at you.  He likes "talking" to you too!  Your framing sounds interesting today.  Enjoy your class this afternoon.  Sure wish I lived closer.  I'd love to be taught by a Master!

Don't work too hard today, Marilyn!   We'll be looking forward to your posts when you get home.  What a pretty welcome to ChevyGal, Marilyn!  Lovely!

HAHAHA!  Al, you are so funny!  Guess you're feeling better?  The cemetery is such a haven for squirrels and while most are black and grey, I did see a couple of red ones yesterday and they are so pretty.

Sound like an interesting day, JudyB!  Not my cup of tea though.   ??? ;)

Great to see your little posts, Nards!   Don't work too hard today at work.  Get some nice photos of that lovely area where you live.  I really enjoyed my couple of visits to your area.

Alright, Etta Sue...

Prayer: A Closed Mouth and Silent Heart

My heart was hot within me; while I was musing, the fire burned. Then
I spoke with my tongue....
--Psalm 39:3

Prayer among evangelical Christians is always in danger of
degenerating into a glorified gold rush. Almost every book on prayer
deals with the "get" element mainly. How to get things we want from
God occupies most of the space. Now, we gladly admit that we may ask
for and receive specific gifts and benefits in answer to prayer, but
we must never forget that the highest kind of prayer is never the
making of requests. Prayer at its holiest moment is the entering
into God to a place of such blessed union as makes miracles seem
tame and remarkable answers to prayer appear something very far
short of wonderful by comparison.

Holy men of soberer and quieter times than ours knew well the power
of silence. David said, "I was dumb with silence. I held my peace,
even from good; and my sorrow was stirred. My heart was hot within
me; while I was musing the fire burned; then spake I with my
tongue." There is a tip here for God's modern prophets. The heart
seldom gets hot while the mouth is open. A closed mouth before God
and silent heart are indispensable for the reception of certain
kinds of truth. No man is qualified to speak who has not first
listened.
The Set of the Sail, pp. 14-15

"Lord, teach me to close my mouth. I love to preach; You've given
me opportunities to teach; I'm called on to dispense advice and
counsel. But the sitting in silence before You, with my mouth
closed--I don't do nearly enough of that. Amen."

Chris - much as I do indeed understand with Mr. Tozer that our mouths need sometimes to be closed so that we ourselves can hear from God, yet, praise God, there have also been times for me that, as I spoke, the words were for me, though I didn't know it before speaking.

Chris & Margit Saunders

Al, I certainly agree with you,
I have been there too, saying something to someone and realising that ,yes, that's for me too! :)

Hi everyone.  We have had a busy day and I am tired this afternoon, even after taking a nap.  After walking this morning and going to coffee, I took Pat to an appointment about 45 minutes away from us.

After her appointment we stopped to have lunch at a new place and then stopped at Wal-Mart (always a mistake) for a couple of items.

We have a beautiful day here and it has warmed up again with not a cloud in the sky.

Chris, what a magnificent photo of the sunset over the water.

Papa John, I know you and Cornelia appreciate Martha coming down to drive you home on Saturday.

Welcome ChevyGal to CP.

Etta Sue, I had a chuckle when you said you put $20 in your gas tank as the thought occurred that you would get further it you used gas.  Sorry, just couldn't help myself.  ;D ;D  Between that and Pat chasing squirrels with Geordie, this is chuckle day here on CP.

Jeanne, glad to hear that Gene had a good visit at the VA and it is always nice to have that unexpected conversation regarding our Saviour.

Guess I had better stop for now and just say that I have read all of the postings.

WELL

We had success.  I will let you know when the puppies are born.  9 weeks  This time we have Cocapoos. Cocker spaniel, Poodle cross.  They are in big demand in the north.  I have one very tired pooch laying at my feet.

We had a brilliant sunset tonight.  The weather should be nice again tomorrow.  The forcast says rain from Saturday to Monday.  Well the rain is needed and perhaps it will start the growth of trees and such.

Good night everyone.

Ruth Ann Bice

Hi, friends,

Well, unless something appears when Jim reviews the files tomorrow, I will have 35 separate reports saved on CDs, packed, and sent off to the hotel for Jim's speech on Monday. Each firm's file contains more than 160 individualized reports. All together in the past 48 hours I've handled 1,500 files.

Whew! The bed's going to look mighty welcoming tonight.

More later, when I feel I can talk a bit.

I had a busy day and got a lot done today.  Tomorrow is busy, too, we will be away from around 10 AM until near midnight tomorrow night.

I don't really have any news, just stopping by to read the rest of the days posts.  See you tomorrow--if I have time in the morning!

Thanks for the devotional Pat and for posting the pictures.  You have a wonderful way of making my photo's look good...

Have been reading and reading...I had a problem with Internet Explorer and couldn't get on this morning.  Had to leave early for a dr. appt. and other stuff.  Strange day of sunshine and rain.  Nice tho'.

I am sorry your day was sad Pat and think it is nice that you go to plant flowers, etc.  Al still did that after seven years and I went with him to his late wife's grave.  The hungry deer ate most of the plants...!!

Etta Sue, thanks for the tip about eye drops.  It helps.

Interesting post Chris.  Guess it can work both ways.  Daily Bread today had this little poem:

Lord, set a guard upon my lips,
    My tongue control today;
Help me evaluate each thought
And watch each word I say.
                 -Hess

I usually ask God to guide in all that I say each day, then go and mess up anyway!

Had some sewing to do and listened to the Old Fashioned Christian Radio site.  Great!  Have found so many good things since coming to CP.  This place is a really big blessing.

Pleasant evening all and God Bless.
