Morning Devotional...

It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped His feet with her hair.
John 11:2

Both Matthew and Mark record this lovely incident but do not name the woman.

It must be some sixty years after the event that John reveals her identity. It was that Mary!

So many saints perform, without publicity, a sweet ministry of which we may not be aware. But one day all will be revealed and rewarded by Him for whom it was done.

He appreciates it all.
--Jim Flanigan

Deeds of merit, as we thought them,
He will show us were but sin;
Little acts we had forgotten
He will tell us were for Him.

Often when Jack used to preach, he'd ask me to sing this hymn.  I haven't heard it very often but it's one of my favourites.

I hope that you'll enjoy it as well.

The Way That He Loves
(Click to hear music)

by W. Elmo Mercer

The way that He loves is as fair as the day,
that blesses my way with light;
The way that He loves is as soft as the breeze,
Caressing the trees at night.
So tender and precious is He,
Contented with Jesus, I'll be.
The way that He loves is so thrilling because
His love reaches even me.

The way that He loves is as deep as the sea,
His spirit shall be my stay;
The way that He loves is as pure as a rose,
Much sweeter He grows each day.
His peace hovers near like a dove,
I know there's a Heaven above;
To Jesus I cling-life's a wonderful thing
Because of the way He loves.

Good morning from England.

Pat thank you that is so beautiful, such lovely words.  Yes Jesus is near.  He is my Heavenly Husband.

Soni I am glad you are feeling a bit better.  Get well soon.  Give my love to Zach please.  He is in my prayers...always.

Hallo Ria. :-*

It is sad re the farmers. We had this with the beef situation a few years ago.  It resulted in a number of suicides...such a tragedy.

"In times of suffering we remember what happened to Our Lord and we can reach out to Him for strength, understanding and sympathy.  The Man of Sorrows has already offered to the Father the pain we now experience.  It helped to fill the chalice He accepted in Gethsemane.

When we suffer and are sad, we are sharing then in Our Lord's Passion;  we are close to Him and He is close to us.  He leads us through his passion , to something much better and much greater, to a new life  with a fresh hope.

                     That is the Meaning of the Resurrection."

Peace and Love.
In Jesus Name.

Good morning, friends,

Pat, I absolutely love that song. I have a beautiful piano arrangement - very simple but the chords are what makes it so beautiful.

I heard from Pam, and she has received medication for the nausea, so she was much encouraged last evening - even trying to joke a bit with me.

Y'all have a good day.

For Liz...
Update on  Becky cat.

Christopher took her to the vet again this morning...
He says there is a very slight improvement...she is still very yellow and not eating much at all and she is bleeding again , but he agrees it is worth trying a bit longer.  He will see her again next week and make a decision then.

I wonder if you have got another cat yet?  Yes I agree you must use wisdom...a cat is for life.

Hi everyone.  A few minutes ago I wrote a post and was about finished when something happened and by browser froze and when I got it working again my posting was gone.   >:( >:(

We had an interesting morning at church yesterday.  First of all our choir director forgot about the time change and didn't realize it until about 20 minutes before the start of the service so wasn't there to rehearse us.  Fortunately, one of our choir members was a former choir director and he stepped forward to handle the rehearsal and was prepared to lead in the service but the director did get there just before we were to sing the Introit.  She was obviously very upset with herself but all worked out well.  Then the minister included in the middle of his sermon the playing of a 7 minute CD (seemed like 17 minutes) by Ken Medema called "Dancing in the Jaws of the Dragon".  He encouraged anyone from the congregation to come into the aisles and dance.  Jeanne, I am sure you can relate to this in that no one took him up on the offer although a lot of folks did stand and maybe sway a bit as the music is very upbeat.  He said he was going to maybe thaw the "frozen chosen" Presbyterians but don't think it worked as we are a bit conservative in our traditions.  It as interesting. ::) ::)

Pat, sure sorry to read about the loss of the chickens in B.C.  I am sure the chicken farmers in the USA are very worried as the rest of the chicken farmers in Canada must be.  We have lots of chickens raised here in Georgia.

Ria, sorry to hear you are coming down with a cold.  Sonja, glad that your cold seems to be better but sorry to read you had to change your weekend plans.

Ruth Ann, good news concerning the progress that Pam is making.  Hope you are getting rested up from your trip here to Atlanta.

Hi to Jenny (after I posted this I saw your message concerning your cat, glad he is a bit better but still doesn't sound too good) and all who will stop by here today.

Al Moak

So very sad for the chicken farmers in Canada.  Pray God's mercy on them and that it might not spread.  Pat - I think I'll put this need in the prayer folder also.

Larry~I had to laugh at your experience in church yesterday.  I just imagined all of you standing there listening to that music. LOL..sorry, you had to be put through that.  ;D  Hope you have a good day.

I am off to start my day.  Hope everyone has a good day.

Does it look like the text got smaller to anyone else or is it just me going blind?  hmm...I wonder if I clicked on something I wasn't suppost to click on?

Good Morning I am so frustrated with my computer I have written another email to Dell requesting a technician to come to my house and fix it for me. If I could leave it on the internet allthe time it wouldn't be so furstrating, but I only have one phone line and with DSL at $29.95 per month I sure can't afford that.

So please excuse me this morning and pray for me to be put at ease. Peace of mind  would be terrific.

Love you all and TTYL

Larry, I feel for you and your dancing pastor, brother.  Accepting cultural direction without unnecessarily imposing it on traditionalists is such a struggle for many.  I've been on the "wrong" end of one of those situations myself, and I sincerely hope and pray that your church will fall on its knees and pray that the situation doesn't go wrong.

Hello, everybody!  Marilyn, I really hope your computer behaves.  I SO understand how that feels.  God bless you, sis.

Better run for now!  Good day all!

Janet, a very good observation.  I guess if we spent more time counting our blessings we would be better off, especially when we feel like everything is going wrong.

Jenny, it is good to see you here again but I miss your smiling face.

Ria, and I hope you will have a nice day too.

Ruth Ann, it is good to hear that Pam is encouraged today.

Al, I agree with you.  It is so sad when we hear of these diseases which cause so much damage to chickens, cows, etc. and to the farmers who depend on them for a living.

Sani, your print looks like everyone else's.  I make mine a little larger because it is easier for me to read.  Also I like the Comic Sans MS font.

Marilyn I am sorry about your computer problem.  Maybe you could find a local guru who could solve the problem for you.

Nard, you could guess that an old guy like me would have some problem with the contemporary as opposed to the traditional.  But I have come to accept the more contemporary and the leaders of our congregation have done an excellent job welcoming innovation.  Our praise leaders do a great job of having both contemporary and traditional singing.

Prayer: The Top Side of Our Souls

And Jesus answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried
and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary
has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her."
--Luke 10:41-42

..every real Christian, however practical, is in some degree a
mystic, his mysticism lying on the upper side of his life. He
prays, meditates on spiritual things and communes with God and the
invisible world. Also, every Christian, however he may be dedicated
to the holy art of prayer and worship, must of necessity descend to
work and eat and sleep and pay his taxes and get on somehow with
the hard world around him. And if he follows on to know the Lord he
must serve in every useful way outlined for him in the Scriptures
of truth. To be a Christian it is necessary that he serve his
generation as well as his God.

The big problem is to keep the two elements of the Christian life
in proper balance. Martha and Mary are sisters and we need both....
Today the Christian emphasis falls heavily on the "active" life....
The current vogue favors "Christian action." The favorite brand of
Christianity is that sparked by the man in a hurry, hard hitting,
aggressive and ready with the neat quip. We are neglecting the top
side of our souls. The light in the tower burns dimly while we
hurry about the grounds below, making a great racket and giving the
impression of wonderful devotion to our task.  The Price of
Neglect, 45-47.

"Lord, help me to keep the proper balance. Help me especially to
cultivate the top side of my soul. Amen."

The Teacup

There was a couple who used to go to England to shop in the beautiful stores. They both liked antiques and pottery and especially teacups. This was their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary.

One day in this beautiful shop they saw a beautifu  teacup. They said, "May we see that? We've never seen one quite so beautiful."

As the lady handed it to them, suddenly the teacup spoke.

"You don't understand," it said. "I haven't always been a teacup. There was a time when I was red and I was clay. My master took me and Rolled me and patted me over and over and I yelled out, 'Let me alone', but he only smiled, 'Not yet.'

"Then I was placed on a spinning wheel," the teacup said, "and suddenly I was spun around and around and around.  Stop it! I'm getting dizzy? I screamed. But the master only nodded and said, 'Not yet'

Then he put me in the oven. I never felt such heat. I wondered why he wanted to burn me, and I yelled and knocked at the door. I could see him through the opening and I could read his lips and he shook his head, 'Not yet.'

Finally the door opened, he put me on the shelf, and I began to cool. 'There, that's better', I said. And he brushed and painted me all over. The fumes were horrible.
I thought I would gag. 'Stop it, stop it!' I cried. he only nodded, 'Not yet.'

Then suddenly he put me back into the oven, not like the first one. This was twice as hot and I knew I would suffocate. I begged. I pleaded. I screamed. I cried.
All the time I could see him through the opening nodding his head saying, 'Not yet.'

Then I knew there wasn't any hope. I would never make it.

I was ready to give up. But the door opened and he took me out and placed me on the shelf. One hour later He handed me a mirror and I couldn't believe it was me.

'It's beautiful.

I'm beautiful.'

'I want you to remember, then,' he said, 'I know it hurts to be rolled and patted, but if I had left you alone, you would have dried up.

I know it made you dizzy to spin around on the wheel, but if I had stopped, you would have crumbled.

I knew it hurt and was hot and disagreeable in the oven but if I hadn't put you there, you would have cracked.

I know the fumes were bad and when I brushed and painted you all over, but if I hadn't done that, you never would have hardened; you would not have had any color in your life.

And if I hadn't put you back in that second oven, you wouldn't survive for very long because the hardness would not have held.

Now you are a finished product. You are what I had in mind when I first began with you.

MORAL:
The Master knows what He's doing for all of us. He is the potter and we are His clay. He will mold us and make us, so that we may be made into a flawless piece of work to fulfill His good, pleasing and perfect will.

Just a word of clarification.  I was not offended by the music, although I could not understand the words as the choir was back of the Boise CD player our minister was using.  We have had movie clips used as parts of sermons and the event yesterday will likely be talked about a bit but don't think it will cause more than a little tempest if that.  We have a contemporary service called Lifeline, which I am not able to attend as I sing in the chancel choir, but occasionally we have a combined service and they always share some of their music in this service and some of it is very beautiful.  My major complaint is that they play the music so loud that it hurts my ears and the repetition of the same thing over and over.

Sonja, the minister was sort of dancing up the isles but he couldn't entice any of the members to join him.  Almost everyone was smiling.

Marilyn, it has been sometime since I used a dialup modem as my method of connection to the Internet but I remember there was a sitting somewhere that directed how long I would stay online before being disconnected.  I wonder if this could be the problem?

I have not felt very well today so have taken it pretty easy and rested for a couple of hours this afernoon.  Sure hope and pray that my heart is not going to act up again as I have been feeling so good for the last 3 or 4 months.

Chris, I looked your graphic.

Al, our lady pastor was a Pentacostal earlier in her life and then became a Presbyterian and went to the PResbyterian Seminary (Columbia in Decatur, GA).  She is also married to a Baptist minister.

I'm baaa-ack!!!!!

Didja miss me?

What a great four days!  We left at  6 a.m.  Not one problem on the roads coming or going.  We ate at Lambert's...the home of the throwed rolls...just north of Branson, Missouri.  Soon after we arrived a bus of what looked like college kids arrived.  They were singing to the music on the intercom.  One of our ladies got up and asked one of them where they were from.  A Kansas college and they were from the Music department and were going to entertain at a Branson theater.  We got through eating and started to walk out.  A lady stopped us and asked if we had a few minutes.  Sure!!!  Four young men got up and sang to us!!!  Now you know I don't know songs but it was the one that goes...Hello, my honey.  Hello, my baby....da, da, da, da ,da da!  Four part harmony!  Wonderful and the guy that was singing bass probably didn't weigh 110 lbs. soaking wet!!!  What a treat!

We got to Best Western Precious Moments Motel by 7 p.m. out time.  Not bad for 500+ miles.

We went to Precious Moments Park the next day.  Ivalou and I had been there before but the other two ladies hadn't been there before.  They were very impressed.  It is an awesome place.  It is wonderful to see murals, portraits, figurines that shows scripture 'in the eyes of a child'.  In the Gift Shop is everything from figurines to shoes that are Precious Moments.  I love what I call the captions or titles that Sam Butcher puts on his work.  I saw one titled 'Mary had a Little Lamb'.  It was the Mary lying on a bed of straw with baby Jesus.  I had to buy it!

Carthage, the town that Precious Moments is in, is a very old town that was destroyed during the Civil War, then rebuilt.  There is a 4-mile drive for viewing Victorian style homes...all built before 1910 and built by millionaires then.  Carthage had the most millionaires living in their town than any other town at that time.

Well, the four of us had a great time...renewing old friendships and building new friendships.  I told Betty I would have her home by 9 p.m. last night and as I drove in her drive the clock in my car turned to 9 p.m.  Pretty good timing.  1,227.2 miles of great fun!!!!

Today I have gotten my car maintenance done, some grocery shopping done and have done some laundry.  And I am still behind....

Larry, a couple of weeks ago we sang "Onward Christian Soldiers" in the service and with spontaneous marching up and down the aisle.  One man started by stomping in time to the music, then he and his wife got up and began marching, reaching for people as they went back and forth and in no time at all a good half of the congregation had joined in.  Our church congregation is definitely NOT frozen!  ::)

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5

Wounded for me, wounded for me,
There on the cross He was wounded for me;
Gone my transgressions, and now I am free,
All because Jesus was wounded for me.

Dying for me, dying for me,
There on the cross He was dying for me;
Now in His death my redemption I see,
All because Jesus was dying for me.

Risen for me, risen for me,
Up from the grave He has risen for me;
Now evermore from death's sting I am free,
All because Jesus has risen for me.

Living for me, living for me,
Up in the skies He is living for me;
Daily He's pleading and praying for me,
All because Jesus is living for me.

Coming for me, coming for me,
One day to earth He is coming for me;
Then with what joy His dear face I shall see,
O how I praise Him—He's coming for me!

I must say the laughter was good.
