Morning Devotional...

Don't Underestimate Your Prayers

"I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty."
(1 Timothy 2:1-2)

That verse is clear, isn't it? The instruction is plain. Yet even in these tumultuous days when our nation is so desperately in need of God's guidance, most of God's people don't do what that verse commands.

Why not?

I believe it's because most of us are overwhelmed by the problems we see around us. "How could my prayers make a dent in the national debt?" we think. "How could my faith affect foreign policy?"

In other words, we fail to pray because we fail to realize just how powerfully our prayers can affect this country.

It's time we caught hold of that. It's time we realized that if we'd just be obedient to 1 Timothy 2:1-2, there's no council of any kind on earth, no king, no president, no congress, no anything that could overthrow God's purpose for His people.

God has called us to intercede. He has commanded us to pray for those in authority. He has given us His Word, His power, His Name, His authority, and His faith. We have all the tools necessary to pray effectively for our government and its leaders.

I urge you to intercede. It is your responsibility as a believer to get involved in the affairs of your country. God wants this great land of ours, and the only way He's going to get it is through His ambassadors, you and me.

Pray for this nation. Every day. And never again underestimate the world-changing power of those prayers.

Mom......you don't know how many stomachs a cow has?  tsk tsk   :o :o :o

Janet, thank you for the devotion.  It is a good reminder to pray for all those in power over us, not just the nation's leaders.  Bosses too need them!

I have seen a prayer of mine answered very recently.  I was also the answer to a prayer on Saturday evening on my way home from my shift at the grocery store.  I was almost home and passed a lady in a phone booth with no vehicle nearby.  I drove past but something made me make a turn around and go back to her to ask where she was going.  She was going a little past where I was but was unable to get an answer at her house to get the ride she needed.  As there is no transit service where I live, I offered to take her home.  The first words she said to me when she got in the car where "you must be a Christian because you are an answer to my prayer".  She is also looking for a new church, and I have extended the invitation to her to join me at mine and her reply was a yes.  I will call her later this week to confirm if she will be coming with me on Sunday.

Janet, mistakes in the making of the throw just make it unique and personal!  (this coming from one who will tear out and redo when the mistake is spotted... ::) )

Liz, that is great news that Amanda was able to land a job so quickly.  Now prayerfully she will hear just as quickly about her entrance into University.

Jen, you aren't complaining, just venting a little.

Etta Sue, OUCH!  hope the dentist used pain killers.....

Hot lemon water.....I remember my Mom drinking that years ago, and I sometimes now have it.

I know I have forgotten lots, but must head to bed!

JudyB

well it is 1:40 am eastern.  I have a sewing report.

The brides dress is done, and two bridesmaids dresses are done.

I have 2 to go but need measurements for them.  I am thankful that the bride chose straight skirts, with no gathering in them otherwise I would not be this far.   2 days to go.........

I will read the devotional tomorrow when I get up, now I am going to bed.

Ruth Ann Bice

Good morning, friends,

It's "Hi, Ho, back to work I go" today. One of the officers needs in-person assistance today. So, Leslie gets to rest up from his nursing duties today. He really needs it, he's worn out and showing signs of severe stress. Can y'all please pray for him to endure while you're praying that I'll recover?

Sue and Judy, it's good to see y'all. What a great testimony, Sue. Wow, Judy, I used to sew like that, but have taken a break and want to get back with it now that my sizes will be easy to find in the pattern department.

Y'all have a blessed day.

By the way, I love the name "Sweet Fellowship" in our discussion listing. It truly is sweet fellowship to trust in Jesus, glorify the Father and the Son and the Spirit, and to enjoy fellowship amongst believers both in person and online.

Sue, so good to read your nice long(er) post today!  Yours, too, Nards!  ;) ;D

I will soon be going over to load up Beth and her "stuff", going to town to pick up Pat and heading for the wild old town of Dodge City!  I think I will go remove that alarm system first thing, so I don't have it to worry about, then we plan to do some shopping, or looking, anyway.  Dodge now has a Hobby Lobby, and for us small town gals, that's always a fun place to go.  I hope to connect with some friends of ours there and maybe meet them for supper.  Beth's flight is very early in the morning.

I didn't go work out today because I don't want to rush around, and still need to clean the inside of my car.  But I did go to weigh in last evening, and have now lost 10% of my body fat, from when I started.  That's good news---now if the scales would just start showing it, too.  Ruth Ann, I'm so proud of you!  54 pounds, WOW!!!  ;D  Good going, girl!

Mark wants us to come down and have a "going away to college" supper with him on Thursday, so of course we are planning to do that!  I will miss that sweet guy.  And Abby will be the only little chick left in the nest.

Gotta run, we plan to leave around 10 this morning.

JudyB, I used to sew like that!  When the kids were little, I could make all four of the girls a dress in one day, except for the hand work.  Now it would probably take me four days to make one dress!  Amazing how much we tend to forget, and have to relearn.  When I started sewing, Diane was a baby.  I bought an old Singer treadle sewing machine which had been converted to electric, went and bought a pattern, and just learned by reading the instructions on the pattern instruction sheet.  Now, I would be scared to try such a fancy little dress, knowing that then I knew NOTHING about sewing, but it turned out beautifully.  Ignorance is bliss, sometimes!  I remember it was a blue nylon fabric, flocked with white flowers, and the pattern had little puffed sleeves, and lots of ruffles and lace.  I have photos of Diane wearing that dress.  Ahhhh...........thanks for the memories!  :) :D

I came back to say that, now I really must run!.

DOES HE KNOW ME -

     He calleth ... by name.

     John 10:3

When I have sadly misunderstood Him? (John 10:17.) It is possible to
know all about doctrine and yet not know Jesus. The soul is in danger
when knowledge of doctrine outsteps intimate touch with Jesus. Why
was Mary weeping? Doctrine was no more to Mary than the grass under
her feet. Any Pharisee could have made a fool of Mary doctrinally,
but one thing they could not ridicule out of her was the fact that
Jesus had cast seven demons out of her; yet His blessings were
nothing in comparison to Himself. Mary "saw Jesus standing and knew
not that it was Jesus . . ;" immediately she heard the voice, she
knew she had a past history with the One who spoke. "Master!"

When I have stubbornly doubted? (John 10:27.) Have I been doubting
something about Jesus - an experience to which others testify but
which I have not had? The other disciples told Thomas that they had
seen Jesus, but Thomas doubted - "Except I shall see . . , I will not
believe." Thomas needed the personal touch of Jesus. When His touches
come, or how they come, we do not know; but when they do come they
are in describably precious. "My Lord and my God!"

When I have selfishly denied Him? (John 21:15-17.) Peter had denied
Jesus Christ with oaths and curses, and yet after the Resurrection
Jesus appeared to Peter alone. He restored him in private, then He
restored him before the others. "Lord, Thou knowest that I love
Thee."

Have I a personal history with Jesus Christ? The one sign of
discipleship is intimate connection with Him, a knowledge of Jesus
Christ which nothing can shake.

Good Morning . Thank you Janet for the devotional today. Good stuff there. We should all remember to pray for those in authority daily.

Pat Sorry but I just had to post the above devotional this morning, I thought there were enough posts between that it would be ok for today.

One of the ladies at our church who has moved up here from LA said to me on Sunday "No Summer?" She's Russian and sometimes it is difficult to understand what she means, but I sure got that one. "that's right, I said to her,  we don't have all four seasons here and we sure don't have a summer season." She looked very confused. Then others who had overheard her statement came to my rescue and  told her the same thing.

Hey Al  what did you do with the other two seasons?

Good morning all.

Tomorrow is Kristi's day with the gastroenterolodghoidhtostististjafoiajesist.  Please pray.

Travis just announced that Kristi's tooth number two is poking through.  I don't even wnat to know how he found out because when he "showed" me, he put one hand on the lower jaw, one on the upper and opened.  She just laughs at him.   Right now they are playing together on the bed.  She is laying there "talking" to him, and he is "interpreting."  It's humourous, to say the least.

I must go now.  They are calling "Dr. Karma Shuford."  According to Travis, they have broken their arms and need to put blood in them.  If it wasn't so funny, it would be warped.

Sorry for not commenting on everyones's posts but I am in a bit of a hurry today.

I can't remember when I posted yesterday but I go back to the dentist Thursday for a preparation for a crown on one tooth and possibly a filling in another.  Thank God, I am in no pain.  First I was told two crowns and I said....NO, ONE CROWN.  She said, but both teeth needs crowns.  The dentist wants to do both as crowns.  I said....NO, ONE CROWN.  My pocket book...not his.

Today I am going with Ivalou and a group of elderly people from her church for lunch.  I enjoy these people.  They are fun.

Then Ivalou and I both want to mow....it has been raining and we are long overdue for mowing.

Hi everyone.  Pat and I are just back from our dental visit for cleaning.  I am most happy to be able to report "Look, no cavities".  Just the words we both wanted to hear.  Since we were last there they have acquired new digital x-ray equipment.  Immediately upon taking the x-ray it is shown on the computer screen and you see your teeth much larger than life.  I am sure that is a big assistance to the dentist is seeing what is going on.  The hygienist said that the sensor used cost $8000 each.  There is no more waiting for the x-rays to develop.  As I think I had mentioned our dentist for the last 20+ years passed away suddenly so the practice is now being run by his son.  We both liked him so guess we will stay with that office, even though it takes us 45 minutes to get there.

Being a farm boy I knew that cows have 4 stomachs.

Janet, I hope you have a good time in Dodge City and that Beth will have a good trip tomorrow.

Ruth Ann, nice to see your cheerful posting today.  Hope you don't overdo at your office.  I know what you mean about bifocals or trifocals causing problems.  I wear progressive lenses and sometimes think I am placing something one place and it ends up short of the target.  I used to wear single vision glasses to work on the computer and play the piano but I kept forgetting to change them when I would get up.  Found myself in the car several times with the wrong glasses.

Etta Sue, I hope the crown preparation goes well.  I am sure the dentist would have liked to do two crowns.

Karmat and Nards, I will be thinking of you tomorrow with your little girl and hope the appointment goes very well.  That was certainly a cute little story about the broken arms.

Marilyn, it sounds like the lady was battling the language differences.

Sue, your experience over the weekend with the lady in the phonebooth was very rewarding.  I hope the lady will go to church with you.

Judy, you must be an excellent seamstress.

I feel my afternoon nap coming on!

Papa John

This morning Cornelia and I went out to do a little shopping.  We stopped by the Super Walmart, then to Sams, and to Krogers (grocery).

Larry as you feel your nap coming on I am just getting over my afternoon nap.  Cornelia went to teach her Bible class at the nursing home and I laid back in my recliner and went to sleep.  The next thing I knew I woke up from the noise of her coming back in.

Right now we are having some rain.  We got a half inch yesterday and we still need rain.

It is good to see everyone today.  Excuse me if I don't do much commenting.

Nita

Marilyn, when I read My Utmost this morning, I was so moved by the Holy Spirit.  I know God is doing a work in his children right now.  I was wondering if I should post this today, and I came on to find you already had. :)  I am always so blessed in reading his devotionals.  Lately, they have been so pertinent to what God is doing in me, and in others I speak to.

Today is very quiet for me.  I just returned from the little prayer chapel here in our town.  It was built by builders of every denomination.  You can see that nothing was held back.  They gave their best to this prayer chapel.  It's always so peaceful there.   No teaching, or preaching, no fellowship with other believers, simply coming to be with Jesus.  A place as this, consecrated to prayer, holds a fragrance that melts me every time I go in.

No lemon water this morning.  Instead I had a cup of green tea. :)  I really don't like green tea, this was unflavored, so I just dunked the bag a few times till the color was there and called it perfect.

Karma and Nards.......just said a prayer for tomorrow's appointment.  Nards, I started to read your post, and realized it disappeared.  We'll settle for your quick hellos.  Karma, your discription of the kids playing that their arms were broken reminds me of when mine were little.  I'd always make a big deal out of it, grab all my doctor stuff and bandage them as much as they'd allow. :)  I guess all kids like to pretend the drastic, because they know that it really isn't and it's safe to pretend. After all.......mom's only a yell away.  I like hearing about their play.  It always makes me smile in a remembering way.  Not only how I felt then, but the memories you are building every single day.   Your a good mama.

Marilyn

Thank you Nita,  I just HAD to post today from My Utmost for His Highest.

I have been doing Versal's laundry this afternoon and  searching for a something I have packed up and can't remember where I packed it. Other than those two things I have done nothing. A do nothing afternoon is always good. I woke up at 2:30AM or soemthing like that and never did go back to sleep so I am tired today.

I took Versal over to the hospital to get a Pro-time done at the lab. (Pro-time is a blood draw for people on Coumadin to see how fast or slow the blood clots). I made an appt with my Dr. for next monday to get my left hand checked out. I am having some weird nerve pain in the back of my hand. and I will have my Cholesterol blood draw on Thursday this week. I hope it has gone down some and not up.

Larry We don't have the four seasons here it is never up to 80*. My friend was confused about why not? That is hard to explain. We just don't in the Summer we have fog sometimes all day long, but mostly in the morning and evening. Lately it has been all day long.

Hi everyone

I am back from the fittings.  Just a few really minor alterations on the brides dress, and the 2 jr bridesmaids were a perfect fit.  The third Brides maid will be a sinch and then there is the matron of honour.  She will be the most difficult as i have to alter the pattern about a milliion sizes!   LOL  I think I will look up a pattern of mine and use that as a guide, then customize it.  A day and a half to go, panic city.  The bride is a basket case.  So am I LOL.

Thank you for the devotional.  It is always a centering or focus point for me when I am overwhelmed.  That seems to be a lot lately.

Ruth Ann I am encouraged to see your post.  Take it a little easier and allow your body to heal.  I will continue to  pray for you and yours.

Larry It is encouraging when you get the "no cavities" report.  I had a report like that not long ago.  As to my sewing abilities, I can only give credit to Mother for that, she taught me that if a job was worth doing it was worth doing right.  That is my sewing moto all the time.  Mistakes yes. but corrected asap.

Nita I enjoy your cheerful posts.

Etta Sue I have seen people go through getting crowns, it is so expensive and I applaud your determination.

Papa Jphn I always wnjoy your poata.  That is a good verse to remember Abd we so quickly forget, that it is not the perishable things that count, but rather the eternal.

Back to sewing.

Judy

Judy B:  I hope at that wedding reception, you are acknowledged fpr your sewing abilities!

Karma:  I love hearing about the antics of children.  Sorry that Kristi is having stomach trouble.  I sure hope its nothing serious.

Janet:  How long is Beth going to be away?  Bet she is too excited to sleep huh?

Marilyn:  Wonder if its carpal tunnel that is causing your hand to ache.  Versal is so fortunate to have you look after her.  Any news on your housing situation yet?

Larry:  I have been praying for you and Pat as well.  I hope she is feeling better.

Nards:  Hi to you too....its been awhile since you've posted!

Great devotional

Etta Sue:  Dentists sure love our money, they justify the cost by saying their equipment is so expensive, in fact yes it is but I strongly feel that if you have a dental plan they will charge to the max.

Ruth Ann:  Due take care of yourself.

Marilyn:  Any word on a place to live yet.

Janet:  I wish all the best for Beth.

Hey thanks for solving the problem with cows.

Laundry was my project for today, usually I have on ironing but this time I have lots and there are only 2 of us.

Our pastor and I got together last evening to discuss some things while the women were having their Bible study.  We were having a really good discussion when the phone rang.  It was one of our people who had taken  a trip down to the Bay Area (SF - San Jose, etc).  This fellow was practically in desperation.  His wife had left her purse in their RV and left the window open.  Someone took the purse with $900 in it - and they had almost no additional money at all, needed gas and had to get back up here on the north Coast again asap.  We had contact by cell phone, but it wasn't real good.  We found a local location for Werstern Union, found out they were open until 9PM, and it was, at that moment, 7:30, so we had time.  They (the people down in San Bruno, next to San Francisco) had located a WU pickup place.  But after we called the local WU here, we tried to call Mike (his name) back, but got no answer.  Waited a bit, tried again, and again, and again.  No go.  It finally got too late for us to go and wire the money, and we didn't know what else we could do at that time.  We prayed.  Then, come to find out that not only had they lost the money, but they had somehow lost each other!  She got out somewhere to get something, and when she came back out he didn't see her, and she didn't see him.  So now she was lost, on top of everything else.  Derk, our pastor, and I finally ran out of things we could do, so we went home, knowing that Mike had pastor's number at home.  Our Father answered our prayer!  A little later, at pastor's house, Mike called.  Derk found out we could go to Westernunion.com and use the church credit card to send the money.  So, finally, (and hopefully) they're on their way back up the 250/300 miles to here.  God answers prayer!

I've had one of the most busy days ever.  I had two meetings (BORING) and another appointment, cut the lawn, tried to clean up more of my terrible downstairs fridge and other chores.

I'm sure ready for bed.
