Don: Hey Judy, It's been a long time. Hope you are doing well. 2024-12-02, 22:41:41

JennyW: Hello Everyone! Just checking in to see if anyone wants to get this group going again! Hope all is well where ever you live! 2024-08-14, 08:21:59

Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Oldiesmann: So sorry for your loss Carol. Praying for you and your family :( 2022-05-01, 17:13:05

Isn't is amazing that almost everyone has an opinion to offer about the Bible, and yet so few have studied it?

Morning Devotional...

Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
1 Peter 4:16

Peter wrote to believers scattered and suffering for Christ (1 Pet. 1:6-7).

Quite amazingly, the saints were ashamed of their sufferings--but not of their Lord. He reminds them that suffering for God glorifies God.

We know little of suffering "for God" but sadly much more about being ashamed "of God."

These things ought not be, when Christ is not ashamed to call us brethren (Heb. 2:11) and God is not ashamed to be called our God. He has prepared heaven to welcome us.

Let us speak boldly for Him here.
--Sam Thorpe

JESUS, AND SHALL IT EVER BE
(Click to hear music)

If anyone is ashamed of Me and My words…the Son of Man will be
ashamed of Him when He comes in His Father’s glory.
Mark 8:38

Words: Joseph Grigg, 1765
Music: “Federal Street,” Henry K. Oliver, 1832

Jesus, and shall it ever be,
A mortal man, ashamed of Thee?
Ashamed of Thee, whom angels praise,
Whose glories shine through endless days?

Ashamed of Jesus! sooner far
Let night disown each radiant star!
’Tis midnight with my soul, till He,
Bright Morning Star, bid darkness flee.

Ashamed of Jesus! O as soon
Let morning blush to own the sun!
He sheds the beams of light divine
O’er this benighted soul of mine.

Ashamed of Jesus! that dear Friend
On Whom my hopes of Heav’n depend!
No; when I blush, be this my shame,
That I no more revere His Name.

Ashamed of Jesus! yes, I may
When I’ve no guilt to wash away;
No tear to wipe, no good to crave,
No fears to quell, no soul to save.

Ashamed of Jesus! empty pride!
I’ll boast a Savior crucified,
And O may this my portion be,
My Savior not ashamed of me!

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!

It's just a beautiful day here in Guelph!  Geordie is so enjoying himself outside chasing the squirrels from the bird feeders and also the big blackbirds and grackles that mess everything up for the little ones.  He doesn't bother the little ones or cardinals but all the rest get chased out of the garden!

Mieka, what a joy you are!  I just have to read your posts and I'm grinning ear to ear!  Keep it up dear one.

I've posted some beautiful photos from our Carol who is in Brussels.  She went to Ireland for a few days and her photos are wonderful.  What memories they brought up for me.

Carol's photos of Ireland

Carol's photos of Brussels and other places

I'm so sorry you have a terrible cold, Jenny.  I hope it doesn't last long.  No, I haven't tried to take any photos of them yet.  I'm not sure how many I have.  I was collecting for several years when I stopped due to the cost of them.  I think I have about 25 or so.

And dear Ria...  What a time you're having and it's just so good to see you in here.  We're praying that a rehab place is found soon for your dear father.  Please get lots of rest sweetie.  It's difficult being a caregiver and I know how tiring this can be.  I went through it for five years and wish I could still be doing it but now realize how tired I was.  I didn't realize it then though.

Well, I'm off for awhile.  I have a little Avon order to do and then laundry and some tidying.

But I'll be back.

I hope that Kim comes in and sees her birthday wishes and I hope that our new members get in here also to see their welcomes.

Good Morning: Thank yo uPat for the devotional this morning.

Ria so good to see you here today. Take it easy my friend, you do need to rest too. I know being a caregiver is a hard job, but you need to get your rest even if you have to set aside some of your own chores until later.

Jenny I pray your cold will be over soon.

Hi MS Mieka, Where is your next stop? Back to the USA or to Lhasa?

Welcome Egroom

Happy Birthday Kim

Hi everyone.  Just back from walking and coffee at the cafe.  Pat is at the "Y" now attending the water aerobics class.  I am looking forward to today as have no appointments or places I need to go.

Liz, I believe your chemistry must just attract bees and wasps.  Sorry to read you were stung again.

Judy, you are right about the Olympics at least providing something decent to watch on TV.  I thought the opening ceremony was very classic and nice.  I particularly liked that they didn't have to have some pop or rock singer performing.  What I saw was very tasteful and interesting.

Marilyn, that is a good piece on what it means to be an American.  I think it has been circulating on the Internet for a couple of weeks or longer as remember reading it sometime ago.  Good to read it again, however.

Papa John, it sounds like a lot of former members returned for the homecoming.

Ruthie, you were likely be able to see much better when the cataract is removed.

Pat, very good devotional this morning.

Happy Birthday Kim

Mieka, we hope you will be able to post soon again.  As the others have said your postings are always interesting.

Jenny, having just gotten over a nasty summer cold I really feel for you just coming down with one.    Do hope your computer doesn't catch that cold!  ;D

Ria, glad to see you posting although am sorry to hear of your continued eye problems and the depression.  I am glad you are getting the help you need.  I also hope things work out for your father.  Assisted living or nursing home living is a most difficult adjustment.

Egroom, welcome to CP!

Pat

I do hope that you'll all post in Carol's wonderful photos from Europe topics.  It's so nice that while she's away she's able to send these photos to us.  In an email to me, she said that she's having a bit of trouble with the camera.

Goedemorgen Ria.  May our Father grant you wisdom in dealing with your father and strength to do all the work you are having to do.

Mieka - may you be blessed with fullness of understanding, and may we be blessed to help you!  And may our God grant you to be loved and appreciated wherever you go.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.  Amen

It is great to come here...laugh a lot, cry a lot, feel sorrow for some, fell gladness for some.  Just to know that people can share their laughter, pain and needs with others on here means a lot.

Ria ~ Your plate is too full.  I am praying that your burdens will diminish.

Liz ~ Wow!  Two more wasp stings!  I know you are one sweet person but those wasps needs to be more tender.  What would happen if you sprayed your garden with some insecticide?

Mieka ~  What can I say that other's haven't said?  Yeah, I know.   ;)  Can you feel the vibrations when someone snores?  I'll bet if my husband was alive and snoring you could.  He was loud and constant!!!!  Do you snore?  Do you wake yourself up snoring?  BTW, I didn't hear any music when I clicked on your 'click here for music'.... ;D ;D ;D

Chris ~ I never thought of myself as an apple tree.  I am hoping for Golden Delicious!!

I know there are many, many others I should address but I had better quit while I am ahead.  ;)

Jerry is coming over so I can help him get a rebate from purchasing a new monitor.  Mieka, I will tell him to post or you are going to show CP what he is really like....all furry with big ears!!!!

We had a great time visiting with our Small Groups people.  The kids were fun to watch swimming in the pool.  The adults didn't get wet until the man of the house 'pushed' the lady of the house in the pool!  Probably wasn't the first and won't be the last time.   ;)

BTW, they all loved my Cornbread Salad!!!

When I first got a computer way back in '99 or '00, I got this in an email.  It is a tear jerker but I love it.  When I read this, I think of Papa John and Cornelia.  I am sure many of you will relate to this story...whether you know someone just like these two people or you wish you were one of these two people.  I love it....enjoy!!!

          SHMILY

My grandparents were married for over half a century, and played their own special game from the time they had met each other.
The goal of their game was to write the word "shmily" in a surprise place for the other to find. They took turns leaving "shmily" around the house, and as soon as one of them discovered it, it was their turn to hide it once more.  They dragged "shmily" with their fingers through the sugar and flour containers to await whoever was preparing the next meal.
They smeared it in the dew on the windows overlooking the patio where my grandma always fed us warm, homemade pudding with blue food coloring.
"Shmily" was written in the steam left on the mirror after a hot shower, where it would reappear bath after bath. At one point, my grandmother even unrolled an entire roll of toilet paper to leave "shmily" on the very last sheet. There was no end to the places "shmily" would pop up. Little notes with "shmily" scribbled hurriedly were found on dashboards and car seats, or taped to steering wheels.
The notes were stuffed inside shoes and left under pillows. "Shmily" was written in the dust upon the mantel and traced in the ashes of the fireplace.
This mysterious word was as much a part of my grandparents' house as the furniture. It took me a long time before I was able to fully appreciate my grandparents' game.
Skepticism has kept me from believing in true love-one that is pure and enduring. However, I never doubted my grandparents' relationship. They had love down pat. It was more than their flirtatious little games; it was a way of life.
Their relationship was based on a devotion and passionate affection, which not everyone is lucky enough to experience. Grandma and Grandpa held hands every chance they could. They stole kisses as they bumped into each other in their tiny kitchen. They finished each other's sentences and shared the daily crossword puzzle and word jumble. My grandma whispered to me about how cute my grandpa was, how handsome and old he had grown to be. She claimed that she really knew "how to pick 'em."
Before every meal they bowed their heads and gave thanks, marveling at their blessings: a wonderful family, good fortune, and each other. But there was a dark cloud in my grandparents' life: my grandmother had breast cancer.
The disease had first appeared ten years earlier. As always, Grandpa was with her every step of the way. He comforted her in their yellow room, painted that way so that she could always be surrounded by sunshine, even when she was too sick to go outside.
Now the cancer was again attacking her body. With the help of a cane and my grandfather's steady hand, they went to church every morning. But my grandmother grew steadily weaker until, finally, she could not leave the house anymore.
For a while, Grandpa would go to church alone, praying to God to watch over his wife. Then one day, what we all dreaded finally happened. Grandma was gone.
"Shmily." It was scrawled in yellow on the pink ribbons of my
grandmother's funeral bouquet.
As the crowd thinned and the last mourners turned to leave, my aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members came forward and gathered around Grandma one last time.
Grandpa stepped up to my grandmother's casket and, taking a shaky breath, he began to sing to her. Through his tears and grief, the song came, a deep and throaty lullaby. Shaking with my own sorrow, I will never forget that moment.
For I knew that, although I couldn't begin to fathom the depth of their love, I had been privileged to witness its unmatched beauty.
  S-h-m-i-l-y:
See How Much I Love You.
Pass this on to some of your friends and family and tell them how much you love them, for there may not be another day that you will talk to them.

Great post, Etta.

Hello, all of you!  Just got home last night from August Fest...  the "official" report was 180 decisions, with 43 of those being salvation.  We are so thankful to be part of that!  It's so awesome to stand and minister to teens that are trying their very best - in spite of their imperfections - to be like Jesus.  Great weekend!

Better go for now.  I hope all of you have a great day.  I haven't forgotten Anthony's request for an extended discussion on KBF, just haven't been home or even near a computer!

 :o :o :o :o Wowzer!!!!!! :o :o :o :o  2 pages already and it is only 10:30am.  Way to go, folks!  :D

Troy and I went folfing and walking this morning.  I got a 70 for my score.  Not bad.  ;D

I need to clean some areas up in the house to get some shelving put up for my photo props and clothing. I am also going to the second hand shops to see if they have any old clothing for sale.

Need to work on the church website today, so I better get going and do my job.

Later folks!

Janet

Howdee!  I'm just so glad to be here!  ;) ;D

I had another of "those" nights last night, got to sleep sometime after 5:30 this morning; up at 8:30 to swim, and now I am feeling the loss of sleep.

I took Beth to the drug store and to the Medical Supply store.  We looked at various bath aids, grab bars, etc, and got a basket for her walker.  She still uses it some around the house, and needed the basket so she can carry things from one place to the other.  When we got home, Darrel had gone to the lumber yard and gotten lumber and raised her porch up to near the level of the door.  That helps a lot, and also covered the 3" wide cracks that had been there, where we had to be so careful not to let the walker or wheelchair wheels fall into the cracks.  He is going to widen a couple of her doorways, too, so she can get through with the wheelchair.  Little by little, we will get it done.  We found out that Medicare does not pay for any bath aids.  I find that rather strange.

I have to go to the Care Home in a little while for some tea Mom wants me there for.........I'm really feeling like the sandwich generation today.

I will be back later.  Sorry to be short today, but that's life, some days!

Marilyn, thanks so much for your call yesterday!

Sonifo

Hi Janet!  Sounds like Darrel is pretty handy with the tools.  That is great he is getting that all done for Beth.
Hope you sleep better tonight.  Isn't that weird how you are so tired but yet can't go to sleep?  It happens to me too, but not as much anymore. When I was pregnant I couldn't sleep from 2:00-6:00am.  I figured it was God's way of getting me ready for the baby.  :-\

I got most everything done except laundry.  I am willing to have a laundry party if anyone wants to come, email me. LOL.  ;D ;) ;D

Janet

Yes, Sonja, Darrel is handy with tools.  We built this entire house ourselves, every board and nail.  If there is a way to get something done, he will figure it out.  But neither of us is comfortable up on a roof anymore, so I hope we can get help with that, and find someone who knows how to measure and do the right slant for her ramp.

I will come to your laundry party!  I don't mind doing laundry at all-----just don't ask me to do the ironing! ;D

Well, the Ladies Tea was nice, and someone who used to sell Mary Kay makeup had quit, and donated a lot of stuff for them to share with the ladies, and they insisted I take some, too, so now I have new lipsticks, lip liners and eyebrow pencil.  ;D  No excuse not to get all glamorous, huh?

I am having trouble keeping my eyes open.  And I need to take Beth her mail.

I stopped by the local newspaper and put in a little thing asking everyone who knows Beth to please send her a birthday card.  Her birthday is August 28.  I think I will have a surprise party for her, too.  She mentioned about three or four years ago that she had never had a birthday party and would love to have one.  (I am sure we had parties for her when she was a little girl.)  Anyway, if any of you would like to send her a card, I will give you my address.  I will keep all the cards until her birthday and give them to her all at once at the party.  She will be so pleased!  Usually, unless the person is 80 or older they charge for a little notice like that, but they said they will make an exception for Beth.  Everyone knows and loves her, and admires her courage. :)

It is good to see everyone today.

JENNY, I am sorry you have a cold.  Stay in and take care of yourself.  You know the saying, “Take medicine and the cold will last a week.  Don’t take anything for it and it will last seven days.”

MIEKA, I can just see you and Soni dancing a happy dance together.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIM !!

RIA, the doctor prescribes for me a low dose of Amitryptyline for chronic pain.  This is one of the medicines I have been taking since I suffered a stroke five or six years ago.  He told me it is sometimes used for depression but in a higher dose.  I hope it helps you.

EGR00M, WELCOME TO CP !!

LARRY, yes there were so many people there whom we had known years ago.  There were a lot of hugs going around.  One lady came up behind me and kind of hugged me before I could see who she was.  I said, “I don’t know it is but I like it.”  I preached for that church for seven years and they also were our sponsors when we went to Papua New Guinea to do mission work.  You can see a few pictures we made there by going to

                                http://community.webshots.com/user/jpmurphree/0

ETTA SUE, give my friend Jerry a big HELLO.  I hope he is doing well these days.   I had seen the SHMILY story before but as I read it again it brought a tear to this old man’s eyes.

ALMA, it is always good to see you here.  I’m sorry about your back.  I can really sympathize with you.  Right now my back is doing a little better but tomorrow it may be out again.

JANET, if you will email me your address I will be glad to send a birthday card to Beth at your address.

There is a girl from our town (Ulysses) who plays on the women's volleyball team.  The Chinese gals beat them, though.  :(  Right now I am watching the swimming, just saw the synchronized diving.

Ok...Janet will do the washen and I put them in the dryer...we both including Marilyn could fold but,

hmmm...well than who will do my ironing?

Maybe Pat, or Papa John.  ;D  Wait, Mieka probably loves to do laundry.

Etta Sue:  You had me literally weeping over that SHIMILY story.  Until I read Papa John's post, I really thought you were talking about your own grandparents.  I had never read that before.

Janet:  Have you looked into a "bath lift" for Beth?  I have one.  Its a seat that operates by battery.  One full battery charge gives you 40 lifts!  Its the best thing we purchased, as far as "aids" as concerned.  I prefer a tub bath to a shower.  My granddaughter once was astonished when she learned I preferred to take baths.  She said: "but Grandma, you are sitting in your own dirty water,"  but then I said " well when you go swimming, you are in OTHER people's dirty water"!...LOL

Not a whole lot to say, but, I do want to welcome all the new members.  Please come back often, and tell us about yourself, and your families.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO KIM!!

Now I will close, and continue watching the Olympics.  More swimming.....my favourite to watch!!

Oh, Meika:... you are so sweet.  I just love reading all your posts.  I am sending you a special (((HUG)))!!

Soni:  I've been meaning to ask:  Two things....1.  How is your brother doing? :)
                                                                   2.  What is "folfing?"  at first, I thought it was a typing error.....and you mean't to say "golfing". ::)

thanks.... Judy
