JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

Religious and Rich Fools
Luke 12:1-21  NLT

1Meanwhile, the crowds grew until thousands were milling about and crushing each other. Jesus turned first to his disciples and warned them, "Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees--beware of their hypocrisy. 2The time is coming when everything will be revealed; all that is secret will be made public. 3Whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be shouted from the housetops for all to hear!

4"Dear friends, don't be afraid of those who want to kill you. They can only kill the body; they cannot do any more to you. 5But I'll tell you whom to fear. Fear God, who has the power to kill people and then throw them into hell.

6"What is the price of five sparrows? A couple of pennies? Yet God does not forget a single one of them. 7And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are more valuable to him than a whole flock of sparrows.

8"And I assure you of this: If anyone acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I, the Son of Man, will openly acknowledge that person in the presence of God's angels. 9But if anyone denies me here on earth, I will deny that person before God's angels. 10Yet those who speak against the Son of Man may be forgiven, but anyone who speaks blasphemies against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven.

11"And when you are brought to trial in the synagogues and before rulers and authorities, don't worry about what to say in your defense, 12for the Holy Spirit will teach you what needs to be said even as you are standing there."
l
13Then someone called from the crowd, "Teacher, please tell my brother to divide our father's estate with me."

14Jesus replied, "Friend, who made me a judge over you to decide such things as that?" 15Then he said, "Beware! Don't be greedy for what you don't have. Real life is not measured by how much we own."

16And he gave an illustration: "A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops. 17In fact, his barns were full to overflowing. 18So he said, `I know! I'll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I'll have room enough to store everything. 19And I'll sit back and say to myself, My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!'

20"But God said to him, `You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get it all?'

21"Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God."

In what situations do you get too caught up in the goals of this world?

Jesus says that the good life has nothing to do with being wealthy.  This is the exact opposite of what society usually says.  Advertisers spend millions of dollars to entice us to think that if we buy more and more of their products, we will be happier, more in tune, or more comfortable.

How do you respond to the constant pressure to buy?  Learn to tune out expensive enticements and concentrate on the truly good life--living in a relationship with God and doing his work.

What a wonderful devotional today!

Y'all have a wonderful day with our Lord.

I'll be praying about the cataract surgery. We'll need to trust God that the surgeon will get very good results.

ALI IS GOING TO BE OKAY!!  She has Feline Lower Urinary Tract disease...really a bladder infection.  They did an x-ray and discovered that she also had a lot of gas in her intestines...why, they didn't know.  Ali only eats dry cat food and Pounce treats.  But I went to get her at 3:30 p.m....Kitty went with me.  And I brought Ali, some cat food for cats with urinary tract diseases and some antibiotics.  She seems okay...still in the litterbox a lot but at least is voiding some.

Inky on the other hand wants nothing to do with Ali.  She hisses at her and growls.  She either smells the other animals on Ali or she is mad because Ali came back home! ^-^  I just hope she isn't getting sick, too.

I am off to Grand Rapids again tomorrow and will be back Friday night.  Kitty is coming to give Ali her antibiotic tomorrow evening and Friday morning.  She is one precious friend.  She has three cats...Tillie, Gwinn and Munchy.

See you Friday evening!!

Thanks for the devotional today, it is wonderful to be able to read it each day and glean something new.

Awesome news about Ali. It is so good to be able to bring your pet home knowing nothing really serious is wrong. And don't worry, Inky will get over it.

Thanks Ruth Ann for the prayers. I too am praying God will guide the surgeons hands, I don't know what ma would do if she lost sight in that eye. She has always been my dad's eyes (he is totally blind).

Have a wonderful day in the Lord!
Every Blessing to You all,

Hi everyone.  We had a little rain last evening, enough to wash the dust off my black car, and some sprinkles this morning but don't think we are suppose to get any rain today.

Yesterday was a very busy day as I thought it would be.  Was only home for a couple of hours during the day and went to bed early as was worn out.

Today I don't have anything requiring me to go out until this evening.  I will be trying to catch up on some computer work today.  I have seven sermons on tape to digitize and need to work on creating a CD of the songs we sing at Calvin Cove using midi files I have already gathered.  Then if I can't be there or when I decide to give that up they will still be able to sing the songs using some piano like music.  It will also give the director flexibility in bypassing some of the songs that are not easy to bypass using a tape that she has for a couple of the four packages of songs that we use.

Etta Sue, glad that you have Ali home and hope the treatment is 100% successful.  Thanks for the devotional today.

Rob, that is a nice tradition in using the 23rd Psalm as a part of family funeral services.

Marilyn, in the county where I live there are only a couple of dirt roads left and this is a very large county.  Also our soil is such that shortly after a rain it really doesn't create mud, although if you track it in the house it is hard to deal with as it is red clay like substance.  Much different than Missouri, where I grew up, where the soil was so black.

Hope everyone enjoys the day--I plan to do so knowing that this day is a gift from God regardless of what comes along.

Well, now that they've won a couple of games, the SF Giants are "my Giants" again.  But it sure took them a long time last night - 13 innings.  So I'm in here late (for me).
Etta Sue - thanks for the devotional today.  It's a thing we constantly need to be reminded of.  The problem is that we think we know what's beneficial (this worlds goods, etc.), but, really, our relationship to God is by far the most beneficial.

Marilyn

Good Morning.

Larry we are still considered pretty rural here. To go to town would be going to Eureka 17 miles away. Although Arcata is between McKinleyville and Eureka and is a college town with a new group of around 3000 students living there every year. Arcata is very small too. The big city  would be  Santa Rosa about 200 miles south of us. Then San Francisco is 270 miles south fo here.

Etta Sue I am so glad to hear that Ali is going to be  OK.  Prayers were answered.

The 23rd Psalm has special meaning in my life. It has been a part of everyone of my deceased family members funeral services.  Guess it goes back to when my grandfather died and when we found him, he passed away taking a nap after working in his garden. The Bible was laying beside him and it was opened to "guess what", the 23rd Psalm. It became a family "heirloom" passed down to all generations since then.

I am enjoying the devotional series, thanks !

Thanks Rob!  This was one of Jack's favourite passages as well.  I'm so happy that you are enjoying it.

Well, guess everyone is very busy today.  It's about 11 hours since I last posted.

I've been out taking photos of a portable being moved to our rec centre which will be the Grange Hill East Neighbourhood Group's home for the next 2 years.  It's wonderful to have this.  It was exciting watching the two halves being moved onto the space allotted to us.  Now the electricity has to be hooked up and then a phone put in and we'll be ready for kids programs to start in the fall!

Now, where is everyone?

It's been awfully quiet in here today hasn't It? All  day long no visitors.
Well here I am checking in, Bill from across the street fixed my screen door today. He had to take it clear off so he could  re seat the screen.  I walked both dogs after I came home  but forgot to go pick up my Senior Food Box.  I will call them tomorrow.

My day off tomorrow I have a couple of errands to take care of, I am going to the Hardware store to get some risers for my bed to raise it up another 5 inches off the floor that way I can use and under the bed storage box for my sweaters or something. I have to utilize what little space I have as I downsize.

Pray for my friend Carol Trainor from my PSP stationery group. Her father passed away last week, they were to cremate him today and last night her mother passed away also. Her husband just had rotator cuff surgery earlier this week. He folks lived back east somewhere and  she was unable to go to them because of her husbands bad health. he can sure use our prayers.

We spend too much time trying to decide what to eat, buy for a friend or family member or just throwing the money away...... Our needs are really small in this world.... but our needs are GREAT in God's world.

Thanks for the great devotional !
God Bless, Rob
