Morning Devotional...

How Would You Know?

You haven't tasted them, have you?  It would be the sure way to tell if you could taste and see.  Did you know that phrase was from the Bible?  "O taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man that trusts in Him" (Psalm 34:8 ).

If someone argued that your grapes were sour, yet he wouldn't taste one, you could hardly be blamed for his opinion.  To taste something is to test it, and that is what God wants us to do with His Word.  Don't swallow it without a careful examining of the convincing evidence He gives.

You say you cannot believe all of it?  Then go with God as far as you can.  Don't reject what you can believe because of something you find hard to accept.  Taste and see.  Your conscience and the Bible agree on this, at least:  you are a sinner (you don't even come up to your own standards).  And, no matter how hard we try, our good isn't good enough.  If we are ever going to be in a true relationship with God, we will have to agree with Him about our basic problem which He says is personal sin.  He offers only one answer:  complete trust in Jesus Christ the Lord and the full payment He made when He died for us at Calvary.

The interesting thing about this is that everyone who has tasted has found what He says to be true.  Can you say for sure you know it is not true?  It's those who refuse the grapes who argue.  Taste and see!

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Romans 3:34; 6:23

"For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves:  it is the gift of God."
Ephesians 2:8

Hi everyone.  It is very dark here this morning as we continue to get some remnants from the storm.  We haven't had any wind and only occasional rain.  There was a tornado southwest of Atlanta and we were under warning yesterday afternoon and evening.

We had a great evening.  They had a delicious indoor picnic (my kind of picnic) and probably around 400 present.  The bluegrass group was very good.  It is basically a Baptist minister, his, wife and son, their grandson (a 12 year old who was a great musician), and a retired missionary who played the banjo.  The music was very enjoyable, including some bluegrass gospel and the minister told some funny stories that had the group laughing.  It was especially nice in that our friend's daughter, husband and two children also attended.  I enjoyed visiting with the son-in-law about his home schooling company.

The pictures from the hurricane are really something..  We haven't even begun to see the damage in south Mississippi and around New Orleans.  At least there is a lot of help available.  I could help but think of how many people not only lost their homes but also their businesses and/or jobs.  It is certainly humbling.

Good to see everyone posting.  It is time for morning coffee at the cafe.

Samantha

:)Good morning everyone and PRAISE THE LORD!

Even though I live in Northeast Mississippi, they were giving out bad weather for me also.  But, we never lost power, and as far as I can tell, my neck of the woods is ok!

Please continue to pray for those who were hit directly on the coast.  Mississippi got the worst of it.

Larry, what kind of home school company does your son-in-law have? I've been homeschooling my kids for 6 years.

Pat, excellent devotional, My husband always uses the analogy of an apple, is it bitter or sweet?  If you haven't tasted my Jesus, then how would you know about Him!

God is so good to us!  I can't thank Him enough.

Y'all have a blessed day!

Samantha

I am always thankful for the grace.

For all of those who are in the track on the effects of the hurricane and awaiting heavy rains and winds, I send my thoughts and prayers for your safety.

Marilyn

Samantha thank you for checking in to let us know that you and your family are ok. The same goes for you Larry and Karma also.

I have just seen the terrible devastation  that the levee break in New Orleans has done, oh my 80% is under water some place 20 ft. deep.

Pat a wonderful devotional this morning, It is a always good to read these informational devotions and the different analogies of the plan of salvation.

Samantha, it is my son-in-law that has the school but my friends son-in-law.  He has a highly successful school for grades 6-12 and they meet one day a week and the rest is self directed learning.  He said the Universities are now seeking their students as the quality of education is so high.  I am certainly glad to hear that your area of Missisippi has not been severely damaged.

I am watching the pictures of the New Orleans area and they are just unbelievable.  My heart breaks for these poor folks.

Pat

I've been watching the news on CNN during the night and it's been awful.

Yes, Larry, my heart aches for the poor folks there and the terribly sick people in the hospital being moved.  Oh, dear.

Samantha, it's so good to hear that your part of the state is pretty safe.  Thanks for letting us know.

Papa John

Well, Katrina paid us a visit last night and this morning.  We had two and a half inches of rain and some pretty strong winds but very little damage.  It is still raining a little and also is windy but it looks like this will pass on through soon.  We may have some flash flooding but hopefully nothing very serious.

As I look at the destruction in New Orleans and along the Mississippi coast I know how thankful we should be.  It is sad when people lose their homes and their possessions.  Some have so little to begin with and to lose the house and furniture is tough.  Also thousands of people will lose their jobs because many businesses have been destroyed.  I pray every day for the suffering.

1 Pet 2:1-5
1   Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.
2   Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,
3   now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.
4   As you come to him, the living Stone-- rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him--
5   you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.  (NIV)

Good morning all!

I don't have a tv, so I'm surfing the news sites getting info about Katrina.  It looks really bad, doesn't it.

I hope everyone has a wonderful, Jesus-filled day. :)

Thanks Papa John for checking in. I wonder how Ruth Ann is doing???

Ruth Ann if you look in I posted in W&W on SN about your computer crashing. Please let us know how you are.

It is so sad to see the damaged lives and the destruction, I saw one man Praising God that their family was alive. As I see this and pray  it brings tears to my eyes for those people.

I will be going back to read the devotional.

Fast Eddie if you had used the 401 & 400 Hwy's on your route to the north you would have been very close to our home as well. Ours is a little town west of the 400 using the King Rd exit and King City is to the East

We are to rec. the remnants of Katrina starting this evening and all of tomorrow. The storms are so devastating.

Ruth Ann Bice

Good morning, friends,

Thank you, Marilyn.

I've been unable to be online for several days. Hopefully this will be rectified soon.

I like the concept of the shout box, but will need to learn how to use it. Most likely will wait until I'm on my own computer once again.

The phones are out in our area of Nashville. Papa John, does yours still work?

Sue, please don't give up on me. I'll work with you as soon as I can get back online regularly.

It has been good to return and enjoy your great messages today.

May God's richest blessings rain down upon you, fill your heart with His majesty and grace today.

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Janet

Good morning!  I am stopping by to greet all of you, am going to Hugoton with Darrel so I can visit Abby in second grade.  She will be surprised!  ;D

My little group of gals had so much fun taking photos this morning---until the battery in my camera died. :(  But we got some really fun pictures, I think.

No news yet on my new computer; hope I hear something soon.  I miss it!

talk to you later!

Karma ~ If you want to quit working...you will.  Mary Kay would not be full time and would save on baby-sitting, too.  Nards can do that while you are out with women making them beautiful.

Pat ~ Thanks on the graphics.  I need to make some more.  I have some that I don't even like.  And thank you for the great devotional today.  Taste God...He is good.

Frantz ~ South Africa, hunh?  In my church a missionary group went to Mombasa, Kenya, in July.  Are you near there?

Ruth ~ It is a cloudy day here.  Probably will be for the next few days since Katrina is inland.

Janet ~ Sounds like a great art show.  And you get to leave your art up until mid-September.  How great!

Sarah ~ Glad to read of your report from college.  Learn all you can and soon you will be out in the working field full time.

Liz ~ Actually I have 'Ultimate TV'.  Similar to TiVo.  Yes, it is through my satellite account.  I can record two stations while watching a third one.  You put in the title of the show and when it is on, it is recorded.  Or you can put in a name of a person, and when that person is on a program or movie, it records it.  I really like it because you can fast-forward through those pesky commercials therefore watching an hour show in 45 minutes.  And even fast-forward through the boring parts of a show.  I very seldom watch live TV...that is why I wasn't watching Katrina.  I really like my Ultimate TV.  Saves me time...I can watch a show when I want to watch it and be selective in what I watch, too.  'In Touch' and 'Joel Osteen' is on a few times a week and I usually watch them again...sometimes not...depending on what all I have to watch.

Fast Eddie ~  Welcome back....you have been missed.

Marilyn ~ Thanks for the recipe....it is In the Kitchen area.  Really sounds delish, folks!

Geri-Jean ~ Thanks for the quote from Pat.  Enjoyed reading it a second time.

Judy Mc ~ Great that you posted today.  Nice to hear from you.

Larry ~ It sounds like your indoor picnic was fabulous and with Bluegrass music, too.  I like some bluegrass but not all.  Really like the instrumentals in bluegrass.

Samantha ~ I was thinking about you during the Katrina hurricane...so glad you are north and not in the direct hit.

Carol ~ You know how tough it is to get a new roof...just think of redoing your whole house like in LA, MS and AL.

Papa John ~ Good morning.  Thank goodness you only got rain from Katrina.  I just turned on the TV and can't believe all the water in NO.  It may be weeks before they see dirt again.

Ruth Ann ~ I hope you don't have to go out in the rain today.  Stay in and be safe.

Ivalou just came over and cut my hair.  Tonight is Beef and Boards again.  I know we will have a great time.  It is cloudy, rainy and gloomy and suppose to be that way all day.

I will be going out to a meeting tonight so won't be around till later.

Papa John

Pat, I think you are going too much.  When are you going to slow down?  --  Don't answer that.

The  news tonight from the Gulf coast and new Orleans is very sad. Yesterday it seemed like New Orleans had dodged the bullet and that it wasn't too bad. Then the water broke through from Lake Pontchartrain and now the whole city seems to be flooded. I heard someone say they might have to evacuate the whole city. The Superdome is surrounded by water and they have no power or plumbing with many thousands inside and now they have announced they will have to close the Superdome.

We were in New Orleans just a few weeks ago and we left because of Dennis, the storm that threatened then. It is scary to think about it. We have a friend whose mother who lives in New Orleans. She decided to stay and ride out the storm. He talked to her yesterday morning and she was all right but now he can't get in touch with her.

We have had light rain all day long. Sometimes it has just been a mist. Our total rain has been two and three fourths inches.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4
3   Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,
4   who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.  (NIV)

Sue

Fast Eddie, I too would have been on the way....after visiting with Judy B, you then visit with my mother Ruth, stop in at my house and then carry on to Pat's, and Judy Mc's and the others that live in the Guelph area.....lots of visits to be had.... ;D

Mom, thanks for the vote of confidence on my computer helping skills.  I try, but I know that there is much I don't know.

Hurricane Katrina has many people worried and concerned here.  Although it is not predicted to be as destructive as Hazel was many years ago, there were many who came through my cash today very concerned about what we have to cope with.  My only and constant reply was that I am praying for all who are affected by this storm to not receive any more than what they are able to cope with...physically, financially, and emotionally.  Many thanks to everyone who is checking in after the storm has passed them by.

RuthAnn, I haven't given up on you.  I knew as soon as I'd read about your computer dying that my project would be on hold.....

Sarah, the reading can become overwhelming....just stick to it!

Marilyn, congratulations on your new  home, and I can't wait to see the pictures of it!

Now, I must get a bit of housework done, and then a bit of relaxing before bed.  This is going to be a long couple of weeks for me as I am scheduled to work full days all this week and next.

Sue I am praying for a new job for you. Your mom reminded me on MSN yesterday.

My insurance Agent finally made it here . He lives in Sacramento and had to be in Redding ,here and Eureka today. He was supposed to leave Redding at noon and didn't get away until after 2, made it here 6:15 and still has to got to Eureka and drive back to Sacramento. Please be praying for Henry to have a safe and uneventful trip and that he will stay awake. It takes 6 hours to drive from Eureka to Sacramento. :o

Everyone should go read the post from awakened Heart in the Manna folder HERE There is some very interesting information there and some prophecy regarding Katrina and the relationship to Israel. I cannot keep from crying when I think about those people who have lost everything and have nowhere to go. I wish I could bring some here. :'(

I spoke with my friend Inez in OK today, she has two sons in Louisiana. They are both ok. They are going to be very busy over the next several months repairing the oil rigs and refineries.  She was telling me that the crankshafts alone are 56 feet long and a crane is need to life them. ::)

Janet so good to see you stopping in. I would really like to see your art show, but unfortunately I can't just drive there. Ha Ha   :-\

Ruth Ann I also posted in the Tennessee folder for you.
