JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

John the Baptist and Jesus
John 1:19-34  NLT

This was the testimony of John when the Jewish leaders sent priests and Temple assistants from Jerusalem to ask John whether he claimed to be the Messiah. He flatly denied it. "I am not the Messiah," he said.

"Well then, who are you?" they asked. "Are you Elijah?"

   "No," he replied.

   "Are you the Prophet?"

   "No."

"Then who are you? Tell us, so we can give an answer to those who sent us. What do you have to say about yourself?"

John replied in the words of Isaiah:

"I am a voice shouting in the wilderness,
             `Prepare a straight pathway for the Lord's coming!' "

Then those who were sent by the Pharisees asked him, "If you aren't the Messiah or Elijah or the Prophet, what right do you have to baptize?"

John told them, "I baptize with water, but right here in the crowd is someone you do not know, who will soon begin his ministry. I am not even worthy to be his slave." This incident took place at Bethany, a village east of the Jordan River, where John was baptizing.

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look! There is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! He is the one I was talking about when I said, `Soon a man is coming who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before I did.' I didn't know he was the one, but I have been baptizing with water in order to point him out to Israel."

Then John said, "I saw the Holy Spirit descending like a dove from heaven and resting upon him. I didn't know he was the one, but when God sent me to baptize with water, he told me, `When you see the Holy Spirit descending and resting upon someone, he is the one you are looking for. He is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.' I saw this happen to Jesus, so I testify that he is the Son of God."
To whom did you last talk about Christ?

Although John the Baptist was a well-known preacher and attracted large crowds, he was content to let Jesus take the higher place.  This is true humility, the basis for greatness in preaching, teaching, or any other work we do for Christ.

When you are content to do what God wants you to do and let Jesus Christ be honored for it, God will do great things through you.

Janet, I can't wait to see pictures of your kitty.  Since you just got her...how about Katrina for her name.  Katrina is a lot prettier name for a cat than a hurricane.  Kat-trina...I like that.

I can't imagine 90 miles of coastline gone or devastated.  But that is what they said toniight on TV.  It may take years to rebuilt if they rebuild.

Did the price of gas go up in your area today?  Tony called and said gas went up by his house.  This morning it was $2.69 and this evening it was $3.19 a gallon.  And going higher.  People will get to the point they can't go to work...can't afford gas.  And winter coming...people will freeze because they can't afford the natural gas or bottle gas to heat.  How about the gas prices in Atlanta, Larry?  Tony said he heard it was $6.00 a gallon there.  Hope that isn't true.

September first.  Time to put those jackets in the washer or the cleaner to get them ready for cooler weather.  I don't mind cold weather...it is the bundling up that I don't like.

^ The above link is something that my husband sent to me and so take a look see ... it has a USA & OVERSEAS MAP to show where we are at and so check it out and click it on and see how much gas is in your area !! Well, take care friends & I'll be back again soon !!

Pat

Good Morning Everyone...

Let's continue to pray for the folks in the devastated areas of the southern USA.  My heart goes out to these dear, dear folks.  They are getting desperate and it's sad.

Gas here was 1.20 per liter last evening.  Not sure what it is today.  Yesterday morning it was on the average of about .98 per liter.

Judy McKenna is having a broken bone in her arm operated on today in Hamilton.  She'll probably be home from the hospital on Saturday.  They don't keep you in long these days.  This bone has been broken for a long time due to her fragile bone condition because of the osteoporosis and reumatoid arthritis and they weren't sure if they could do this operation but pins will be put in, etc.  It's almost as if she has two joints--elbow and this broken one.

I still can't access Outlook Express and it's discouraging since I have so much information in there and all my email addresses.

I'll be back.  I sure hope that we have more than 13 posts today!

Love

Pat

Pat I can't access Outlook Express either, every time I try to open an email it shuts down. I wonder what is going on with that.

I have a busy day today. At the first two clients I have to clean  house but I am not going to Fays today as it will be late this afternoon when I finish the first two.

Hello all!

There was a mini-panic in our area yesterday when one of the local stations broadcast that gas was scarce and prices would be jumping upwards of a dollar, yadda, yadda, yadda.  So, people left work, classes at the community college cancelled, plans changed and everyone ran to the gas stations.  It was a madhouse.  I had a full tank, so I didn't have to get involved, but the results were humourous and scary.  Many stations were limiting purchases to 10 gallons, and others were allowing any amount, but only in the car you were driving (no extra cans or anything).  Prices jumped like 50 cents in a matter of hours. Many stations ran out, and someone started the story that there would be no more for 14 to 21 days.

What amazed me was how common sense left the window.  Had everyone remained calm, the stations woudl still have fuel today.  BUT, because everyone rushed out, they did run out.  I explained to my students that that would have happened any day, hurricane or not.  When that many people get gas at one time, they will run out.    So, now we are out of gas in the short term, and who knows what will happen in the long run.

I seldom link to posts on dpchallenge, but htere was one there this mornign that I think is worth reading.  It is long, but it gives an account you may not find on cnn or fox.

Good morning everyone!

We had a mini major panic in my small town yesterday.  About 1:30pm my husband called and told me if I needed gas to go and get it.  It was about 30 mins before I could leave to get some.  There are 3 gas stations in my small town.  The first one had lines on both sides and it only has 2 pumps that have the 3 grades on them.  The next one I went to has 4 islands and only one car was there. Thank the Lord, I filled up right away!   Within the next 30 mins when Terry finally got to go fill up, the one I got gas at had sold out, and raised the price by 30 cents.  The first one still had long lines, and the other had sold out also.  Last night going to church it still had long lines!  I pray the situation resolves itself soon.  Terry left out this morning hoping to get some for his pickup.  That is what he uses for work.

:'(The pictures and stories just make me want to cry.  I just go with a prayer continually, because I don't know what else to do. :'(

Karmat, thanks for the link.  I copied it and sent it in an email to my friends.

Happy Thursday, folks.  The news out of New Orleans just keeps getting worse!  Now they are actually shooting at the helicopters sent to rescue them!  That is like biting the hand that feeds you.  Last report I heard, ALL rescue efforts have been suspended until things can be controlled.  Many of the people now have guns, because they stole them in the major looting going on.  I do not understand their thinking---I guess they don't realize how precarious their situation really is; and that they have no way out of there without the help of the helicopters, buses and other means sent.  Makes me shudder to think of it!

I was the only one besides Kristi who showed up for volleyball today; and they had taken the net down; so she and I walked for over an hour.  We walked to the high school and saw the football team warming up for practice, also saw and heard the band marching and practicing.  She was telling me that Kansas State University has invited college kids from the devastated areas to come to K State, and that they can attend free until they can recover some of their assets.  I think that is most generous of them.  Both my college grandsons are K Staters.

Etta Sue, I like your suggestion of Katrina for a kitty name!  Hmmm.........I have already discarded Melanie, and wasn't really happy with Serena, so.........I'm thinking!

I need to get some work done before class time, so best go get with it!

Good Afternoon...

Sounds like a nice walk, Janet.

I went back to Aug. 29 and did a "restore" and at first my Outlook started to work but now it's all stopped again.  Not sure what I'm going to do as I have such valuable stuff in there.

Ruth, are you going to be driving again this year?

Our gas went up so high overnight too.  It's very upsetting indeed for those on limited incomes. Samantha, it sure is awful.

Thanks for the link, Karma.   :'(  So sad.

Marilyn, I hope you get OE to start working for you.

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  I have just read through the postings for the last three days.  I didn't manage to even get to CP yesterday as was busy but didn't want to let another day pass without at least checking in.  I have to go to Calvin Cove shortly and also stop at Walmart to get a couple of items Pat needs.

I have a TV card in my computer and have been having the news from this terrible disaster on it while I sit here and work.  I decided I am not going to complain about gas prices or much of anything else when I see the the situation there in New Orleans, throughout Mississippi and Alabama (as well as southern Florida).  I will never understand why the criminals behave as they do and shooting at the people trying to help them is just beyond belief.  The poor people trapped and now it isn't even safe to try to help them.  So sad.  It makes me so angry to begin to hear the politicians now trying to gain points by criticizing what is being done.

We had the same gas shortage scare here yesterday and I guess everyone decided to fill up on the same day and as a result many stations ran out of gas.  Many stations started the price gouging and I think all stations went up about 35 cents between morning and evening.  There were stations that raised the price from less than $3 to over $6.  As a result the governor late yesterday signed an emergency order against price gouging.

Papa John, glad to see that Nashville was spared.  We had some rain and a couple of areas had tornados in our area but that was the only impact for the Altanta area.

I have read all the postings but just don't have the time or the energy to write very much today.  I will try to do better tomorrow.

karmat

Larry, I'm like you.  I'm just glad that I've got a car to put expensive gas in and a house that it will cost more to heat this winter.  At least both of my children and my husband are safe, and I have soemthing to feed them, and clothes to put on them (though Travis is rejecting that particular luxury at this moment).  I think that makes me more fortunate than about, well, almost all of the residents of NO and Biloxi right now (and the other smaller areas that aren't being mentioned).

One of the members from dpc (Julia Bailey - grigrigirl) was posting what NO was like right now.  She said that what you see on the news isn't all.  There are dead bodies floating in the streets, and gangs have organized and are raping and killing any women they find. :( :( :(  It is simply not safe for women to be alone right now.

I know God is probably crying with us.

Larry, I hope that tomorrow finds you stronger and more energetic.

Janet, You could call her Kat-a-rina.

Marilyn -- Have you moved yet?  I cant' remember if I read that or not.

Babycakes -- I'm like you.  When I get so overwhelmed with it all, I just cry to God.  He can make soemthing good out of this, and in the meantime, I am praying that he gives the comfort, support, encouragment, and hope to those that seek Him.  I consider myself a fairly strong Christian, but if I were there now, going through what soem of them were going through, it would definitely test my faith, I think.

to the others -- laters!

Thank you for the devotionals over the last few days.  I have read them bt not commented.

In reading about the fuel (gas) panicing, I am reminded that our hope is in the Rock of Ages.  Not only does he own the cattle on the thousand hills He owns the hills and the fuel reserves beneath them.  Think on that as you go to fuel up.  Things sound like it's gone nutz down there.  Yet I heard on CNN that there was to be an influx of oil into the reserves of the affected area.  Did I hear wrong?  Things appear to be calm to the point of mundane up here in the north.

We had some rain over the last couple of days, a little bit yesterday, and some light downfall on Tuesday.  I don't think we will get any from the hurricane.

I am having no problem with outlook, could the problem be with the specific server?

I have all my alterations done for a lady, and will be taking them in to town tomorrow.  Then to finish some sewing for the girls and my girlfriends daughter.  I have all the girls clothes culled out, and what they don't want, ready to go to Value Village.  Tuesday is half price day and i intend to take advantage of that.

Well I will go for now be back later.

Love Judy

:) I put two pictures in the gallery today.  1 is my daughter and my cat when she was a kitten, and the other one is just my kitten.   :)

I'm still learning about this, and with all the talk of kittens, I thought I would show you mine.  I've really got to get out and take more pics of the kids, soon they will be grown and out of the house!

Liz

I have just finished reading all the posts from yest. and today.  Had to go help Wendy with Market Day yest. and not feeling great, so left the computer alone.  We are having cool weather now and it seems to cause physical problems.....

Read the link posted from K and it  made everything even more real.  Janet, Canadians are raising money to help and certainly our gov. will be joining in with others all over the world.  Mr. Clinton said even those affected by the Tsunami are helping to raise money.  The world is no longer a small place and we are all feeling this and praying.

The Specialist who Wendy recently visited, does not hold out any hope for her to ever have a normal life again.  To much damage has been done to her little body.  The report he wrote, along with that of other Specialists, will make that very clear to ICBC.  I can only hope that she will get the settlement soon and be able to get more treatments soon, as physio and accupunture once a week is simply not enough.  Needs to explore other more advanced alternative treatments as she is in so much pain.  They have paid for everything out of their own money for four yrs. now and it is extremely difficult....

Alma, I love the pictures of your tigers.  You look so happy in the photo!

Papa John, your posts are always a blessing and I look forward to reading them.

Hope everyone has a pleasant day and evening.  God Bless.

Liz

CHANGE NOT THY FAITH WITH CHANGING TIMES

karmat

Time to go fix supper.

Have a good night, ya'll!

Ruth

The devotional was a good one.

My little jobs for the day are complete but Mel is still  in the garage so I hate to see what changes he has made. Some items hit the road side for tomorrows garbage but a good number have already been picked up I am glad that someone will put our discards to good use. oh my I have just been called to go take a look at what has been done.

Pat: Yes I will be starting work on Tuesday.  I am continually asked when is the end coming?  I had set 2 dates - one is in the past and the other has not arrived yet perhaps I will even pass that one as well.  If things continue as they are it will be a here today and a gone tomorrow.

Pat;  I also hope that you get outlook express up and running - perhaps a call to your server.  I had another little problem and the server suggested that I try the re-start from the shut down - it worked.

Ruth

Janet

I have had a really busy day.  I went out to Beth's and got started cleaning out junk--what a junk keeper that girl is!  I warned her that by the time she comes home, she will have much less stuff than when she left!

This afternoon I taught my class, and did a lot of cleaning out of my own junk (papers, magazines, etc.) in the studio.  Darrel came in to tell me my supper was getting cold, so I ate, watched the news, then started purging magazines from the living room.  Magazines are SO expensive that I hate just throwing them out, but............whew!  They do accumulate!  So eventually, they have to go.  I still have a lot more to get rid of, but at least that's a start.  Doing this is one thing I have to be in the mood to do; otherwise, I just can't make me do it!  Do any of you have this problem?

I have promised to help a friend with her garage sale on Saturday; then have a birthday party (80th) to attend; then a 16th birthday party to attend later.  So another busy day.

The news from the devastated area hit by Katrina continues to be unbelivably awful.  I'm sure just seeing the pictures on TV doesn't give us a true idea of how terrible it really is.  I hope those who are acting like savages calm down, or can be arrested or whatever it takes to get the area under control so that the deserving can be helped and SOON.

Another slow day here on CP!

Karma---Kat-a-rina---------Yes, I like that!

Hello Ruth, I see we were posting at the same time.

Pat, I have Outlook working on Darrel's computer, but am thinking of all the msn and email addresses I have lost.  Sigh..........

YIPPEEE!!!  My computer guy called and said he will be bringing my new computer at 1:00 tomorrow!!!

I guess that's all for now!  See you folks tomorrow, I hope.

I got my OE working by just deleting the letter that was causing the problem every time I tried to open it. I actually deleted the whole inbox and then  closed it up and started over and it worked. Then I went to the deleted box and just red them there all except for the one culprit letter.

I had a busy day today and when I sat down at Versal's after all the work was done I dozed off watching the news so she told me to go home and take a nap. I came home and redid my Strawberry jam with anothe box of Pectin now it is all jelled and cooled.

Tomorrow I am having my fake fingernails removed, I have already removed 5 of them myself. I have had them on for a years now and it is time for them to go and let my own nails recover.

I have decided that even though the speed limit here is 65 mph I am cutting back to 55 mph because when my car was built it was built to be driven at 55 for the optimum gas mileage. Let the other cars pass me and burn up their gas, I am going  save mine.

Good plan, Marilyn, re the speed limit.  I seldom go over 80 km/hr.

I spoke to Norm McKenna a little while ago to find out about Judy and she had a two hour operation and had two plates (one above and one below the break) put on the bone and he left the hospital in Hamilton about 6 pm as she was going to be in recovery for about two more hours.  He'll go down tomorrow early.  He said that the doctor said it was worse than he thought it was going to be.

Ruth, yes, it's difficult to give it up but I bet you could sure fill your time if you weren't doing it.  Look at all the afghans you could knit and crochet!  LOL

That will be so good for you to have your new computer, Janet.  How big a hard drive did you get?

Hope to see posts by you both tomorrow, Frantz and John!  It's really nice to have members check in from Scotland and South Africa!

I agree Liz, about the link that Karma posted.  What a tragedy is going on in N.Orleans.  We'll continue to pray.

Well, I'm going to close up a bit early as I'm very tired tonight.

Did I miss Al Moak today?  Hey, Al!  Where are you?
