Morning Devotional...

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2 Cor. 5:17

Years ago there was a plain sort of man in the western United States who was saved.

People asked him what difference it made in his life. He said: "I am a butcher, and since I have been saved I have stopped weighing my thumb. I sold that thumb for the price of beef hundreds of times. Then I discovered in God's Word that "a false balance is abomination to the Lord" (Prov. 11:1).

The application of the Bible in that man's life made a definite and dynamic difference. He was a changed man, growing in the Spirit by applying the standards of God to his scales.

What about you and me?

May the Mind of Christ, My Saviour
(Click to hear music)

Let this mind be in you,
which was also in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 2:5

Author:  Kate B. Wilkinson, 20th Century
Musician:  Arthur C. Barham-Gould, 1891-1953

May the mind of Christ, my Saviour,
Live in me from day to day,
By His love and pow'r controlling
All I do and say.

May the Word of God dwell richly
In my heart from hour to hour,
So that all may see I triumph
Only through His pow'r.

May the peace of God, my Father,
Rule my life in ev'rything,
That I may be calm to comfort
Sick and sorrowing.

May the love of Jesus fill me,
As the waters fill the sea;
Him exalting, self abasing,
This is victory.

May I run the race before me,
Strong and brave to face the foe,
Looking only unto Jesus
As I onward go.

May His beauty rest upon me
As I seek the lost to win,
And may they forget the channel,
Seeing only Him.

I'm going to repeat this from yesterday's New Every Morning...

I heard from Lee Kirkwood the other day.  His grandson was in a terrible car accident in Los Angeles (I think that's what he said).

Here's his email as I feel that we should all remember this fellow before the Throne of Grace:

QuoteDear friends and family.

We are asking for your prayers.  Danny Welle, our grandson was in a serious traffic accident early this morning.  Dan is a Los Angeles deputy sheriff, and was on duty when the accident occured.  My daughter Dian is a nurse and explains his condition in depth. Dan is 6'10" and  290 lbs, so you can see why the impact was so great.  Actually, I don't feel he will get out of the hospital as soon as Dian says, but then, I'm not there.

Thanks for your prayers.

Lee and Vivian

I had a further update today but his photos didn't come through so we'll see when they do.

Also, on SeniorNet and Photography Cafe, one of the members, Jaycee has a little grandson, Pete, who is 4 years old and they've found a milignant tumor on one of his kidneys and he must undergo surgery to remove this kidney tomorrow morning.

Let's all pray for this dear wee fellow tomorrow.

Peter - Jaycee's 4 year old grandson

Will undergo surgery tomorrow to remove a kidney with a malignant tumor. He can use all the prayers and good wishes you can send his way. Thank you.

Here it is, after 3 am and I guess I'm about ready to go to bed now.

I've been "working in the basement" of CP for a few hours, doing things that aren't visible to the general populace but need to be done to keep the site running.  I appreciate your prayers on my behalf and for the site as well as we're getting so very many visitors looking in each day and reading the various areas.  Keep clicking on the Google ads as without them the monthly costs would not be possible by me.  I appreciate your continued "clicking".

May the Lord truly be glorified on this site.

I've also posted several updates on Joe Jensen, the young man here in Guelph who was beat up in his home.

You can get to these updates  HERE

Protected

Wherever we are, God is.

Our oneness with God is a constant in our lives. There can never be a time or place where God is separate from us.

Though there may be times when we feel unsure or unsteady, we still know God's presence is guiding us and protecting us. No matter what our experience may be, we are secure in God. God's magnificent, strengthening power is always present with and within each of us.

And as we think of loved ones, we envision them enfolded in God's loving, protecting care. We continue to picture them held in divine light and love, comforted and at ease as they are being led through the most secure of experiences for them.

Wherever we are, God is, guiding us and protecting us, and all is well.

"He protected us along all the way that we went, and among all the peoples through whom we passed."--Joshua 24:17

Pat:  Thanks ever so much for all the work you put in for CP.  I do hope that you will get back to a good pattern of sleeping soon.  So sorry to hear about Lee Kirkwood's grandson.  And, what a darling boy having kidney surgery.  My prayers for both.

Marilyn:  Sorry, I got it wrong about resumes.  But - I want to add my best wishes for you to get the place in Eureka.

RuthAnn:  How wonderful for you - a day of rest.  I hope it is truely a great day for you.

Larry:  Well, no Ford dealer could figure out what the problem could have been on losing power.  I must admit that the mountain passes are something I don't enjoy now that this has happened once.

Sue:  I got it wrong & mentioned Marilyn on the resumes.  Best wishes to you in that regard.

Here is my daily devotion from email:

QuoteDaily Reflection and Prayer   by Eugene H. Peterson

"The Plowers Plowed on My Back"
READ Psalm 129

The plowers plowed on my back; they made their furrows long.
Psalm 129:3

If God's people participate in exceptional blessings (Psalm 128), they also suffer extraordinary afflictions. Neither cancels out the other; they exist side by side in the life of faith. Both joys and sufferings are redeemed by the Lord, who lived and died for us in Jesus Christ.

PRAYER: I know that I am not the first one to feel pain and to suffer, O God, but while it is happening to me, I feel as if I am. I look to you for comfort, strength, and a final day when you will set all things right, through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Not much planned for today, Working at Fay's this morning, having my nails done this afternoon. The nails are just my little personal treat for myself every two weeks. My own nails break so easy and the acrylics are so nice not to worry about the breaking and peeling that my own do. I don't like them long so keep them short.
TMI I think.

I will not address everyone today,  I will say to you PAT thank you for allthe work you do here on CP and the hours you spend in the "basement". Won't it be nice to see Karma come back when her internet connection  gets fixed. And Soni when she isn't so busy.

Sarah will you keep in touch with us from college?

I am so thankful to God for his protection over me. There have been a few instances lately where I was in an intersection when another car came speeding toward me from the side and I was able to get across the street without being hit. It sure is a scary thing, but I always remember to say "Thank you Jesus". People seem to be in such a hurry to get somewhere without consideration for others.

Hi everyone and a big welcome to each of our newcomers.  We are happy to have you join us.

Pat, certainly sorry to read of the accident involving Lee's grandson and also the little four year old.  He looks like he is a "go getter" so hopefully they will get all of the tumor and he will be back up and around soon.  I will pray for both of these individuals.  It doesn't sound like you are getting enough sleep.  Sure hope that won't be a lasting problem.

Carol, something like that probem with your SUV never leaves your mind.  I almost dread to drive our good car now as I never know when it will refuse to start.  Since they don't know what is wrong they don't know what to fix.

Jane, nice to see that your daughter will be joining us here on CP.

Judy, glad your children were able to swim today.  It sounds like you have a pastor that really relates to the children.

Judy M, nice to see you posting again.

We had a sudden lightning and thunder storm with about 1/2" rain around 10:30 pm last night.  We hadn't been expecting it.

My good friend bailed me out once again in that one of my two monitors I use with my destop computer started to fail and had turned very grey.  He called me yesterday afternoon and said he was bringing over a used 17" monitor that he no longer was using.  In a few minutes he was here and replaced the old monitor and now I have twin monitors the same size.  If you ever have the opportunity to use dual monitors I highly recommend it as it is very convenient.

Marilyn, we were posting at the same time.  Your posting reminded me I also wanted to thank Pat for her tireless efforts on our behalf here.  I am also going to be clicking on several of the Google ads this morning.  I have been doing a better job of clicking on them but still not a habit as it should be.  On my browser if I hold the shift key down while I click on the ad it opens in a new tab and then I can quickly close them if no interested in them without losing my place here on CP.  I am using Firefox this morning and the shift key opens a new window while the control key opens the ad in a new tab.
Hope everyone has a very nice day.

Pat

Thanks Everyone!

Marilyn, I'm so glad you mentioned about being thankful for the little things that could have been much bigger, had it not been for divine protection. I'm thankful when a parking space near a door is waiting for my little truck. And thankful for smiles given and received. And thankful that someone will come to me asking for prayer. And thankful for little kitty purrs and big dog nudges.

Pat, how much I appreciate the devotion today. Someone asked not long ago why I try so hard for my clients, and I reminded them that we're admonished to "be a workman worthy of your hire." It ended up with more questions being asked and I was able to testify to this individual - who is of the Shinto persuasion. I was asked to show certain passages, so I pulled out of my desk drawer both my King James Version and a more modern english version as well to help the person understand since they have an asian language as their first language. Also, I've read and re-read the passage about the virtuous woman. How I wish I could live up to that passage.

Sue, should you wish, I can review your resume and possibly rework it - I've helped many others with obtaining jobs. And, I worked in a Human Resources unit for 12 years. So, I am aware of how to sometimes catch an interviewer's attention. If so, send me a PM and I'll get back with you.

Y'all all have a wonderful day. I'll try to return later, if God wills it.

Ruth Ann

Thanks for the nice devotional Pat and I am listening to the music.  It is lovely.  Sort of has to compete with the roofing going on next door.  They started before 7 A.M.  I found Misty hiding under the car, rather than sleeping on her bed.  She is a real genuine, scaredy-cat!  Even Billy Bob didn't show up for his breakfast.... :-\

Another hot day here on the island.  We are now reaching the point of badly needing rain.  The island has become tinder dry and I only hope that people don't throw out lighted cigarettes, etc.  Not a lot of common sense around these days....

I have prayed for the little boy and for Lee's grandson.  So many problems around.  Also pray for you Pat.

Finding that Wendy's new medication is making her super hyper and hope that will wear off...Wish doctors would take more care in prescribing meds.  Read that this one is dangerous for seizures and not for people who have had head injuries.  She has had three bad blows to the head and is suffering some memory loss and bad short term memory retention.  We do a lot of laughing about her forgetting things as I am not good at remembering either.

Glad you liked my little smile, Pastor Al.  Forgetting can also be useful....We can read the same books over and see the same shows again....and they are always NEW!  Think of the money that saves...

Thought this might also bring a chuckle to someone.  Goodness knows we need to smile these days.  My Daily Bread ended with 'To laugh is to be fully human.'  Wish there was more wholesome humor around these days....especially from the media.

I, too, want to say a big THANK YOU to Pat for all her hard work here and "in the basement."  Pat, you have been a real help and encourager for me.  Thanks for helping me finally "get it" last night with my photos in the gallery!   ;)

It is cool and overcast here on the south coast of Oregon.  Supposed to reach near 100º in the valley --- this is one of the reasons I LOVE it here on the coast!   ;D

I am sorry to learn of Lee's grandson and his accident.  Also for the little man who is undergoing surgery today.  So many are enduring hardship these days and I am eternally thankful for the keeping, healing grace of our wonderful Lord.

I will not even begin to respond to each one of you because it's so easy to miss someone or something I wanted to say.

Liz~I really enjoyed our (the girls and I) visit to your island.  Hopefully, someday, we will have another opportunity.  It was fun talking with you on the phone, though!  Thanks again for the great weather.  Sorry I forgot to turn the heat down when we left.   :-\
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Pat

Hey Jane, it was so nice to have someone to talk to in the middle of the night!  LOL

Liz, those are great songs!  Yes, it's so good to laugh!  Sometimes I laugh at things on this computer and Geordie runs in and stares at the monitor as if to say, "What's so funny this time?"

Just in for a moment had to unload the car I've been to kmart for dog food and toilet paper. Now I am off the the  Beauty shop to have the nails done.

For some reason on my IE browser I do not see any google ads and I have removed AOL from my computer. I have to make some changes in my profile too.

Hello, everyone!

WELCOME, JOLYNN!!

I hope you will come in and chat a bit.  Folks, JoLynn is our new pastor's lovely wife, and she is a very talented photographer, too!

I had a rough day yesterday taking Beth to the doctor in Amarillo, and was SO thankful for Diane who drove us.  She is a real source of strength to me, and I thank God for her.

Abby came home with us as Diane had to go to Kansas City today to Market.

I will update you all on Beth in the Prayer folder a little later.  I am feeling a very strong need to lie down for a little while.

I just awakened from a short afternoon nap a while ago. My goodness, how refreshing these lazy off days can be.

You would have laughed to see me whizzing around my kitchen in my little secretary's chair.  :D  I took my reacher and got the spices needed and fixed a wonderful fresh gumbo-type dish with fresh homegrown okra, onion, homegrown bell and banana pepper, a bit of mild salsa, a packet to thin sliced beef (a 2.5 oz pkg like we would make a sandwich out of) and some leftover rice. Yum, yum. And, there's plenty for lunch tomorrow, too. It's been almost unimaginable how much better life has been with "wheels."

Y'all have a great evening.

Ruth Ann

Seeing Ruth Ann's post about how she can manage with these wheels reminded me of how faithful our Father is to us in EVERY way.

There is no shadow of turning with Thee.
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;

Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy Faithfulness, Lord unto me.

RuthAnn I can relate to you zipping around in the chair.  I often do the same thing with my chair on wheels.

We saw the most amazing thing tonight, and THE CAMERA WAS NOT NEAR BY! ! !   We take the back roads out of North Bay and I saw a dear in the middle of the lane.  I came to a cmplete halt as she and two fawns  crossed the road.  They were this years fawns, they still had their spots.  Mama was a little nervous of me stopping but when I didn't move she turned her head and the babies came out of a thicket and followered her.  It was a beautiful sight.

VBS is over.  For another year at least.  Numbers are down but the program was good.   My two younger girls only have one more year to go in VBS and after that they will be helpers then go on to be teachers.  It is a great training ground.

The leaders are tired, including this one.  So Night all and pleasant dreams.
Judy

Janet

Ruth Ann, I did read (and remember) your birth story, sorry I didn't get YOU told that! :-\  You sound like a very creative cook-on-wheels!  ;)

JudyB, sorry you didn't have camera in hand!  What a special treat to see the mama deer with her babies.  Bible school is great.

I have posted an update on Beth and her condition (and her plans) in the prayer area, for those who are interested and those who are faithfully praying.  Thanks so much.

Papa John

Liz, I couldn't try to comment on all the posts but I have to tell you I enjoyed the Bible Characters and songs.

And I have enjoyed reading all of the posts today.  Cornelia and I went out to pick up a few things at the grocery today.  Tonight after supper we went on a walk in the neighborhood.  Well, I can't walk very far so, of course, I rode my little scooter.

One blessing we share in "CP" is the friendship which is evident from the posts each day.  We are not just brothers and sisters in Christ but also friends.  Tonight I was looking at one of my favorite readings in the Bible,
I John and I noticed how often he  addressed the readers as "Dear friends."

I Jn 2:7  Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard. (NIV)  (The command was to love one another.)

I Jn 3:2  Dear friends,, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. (NIV)

I Jn 3:21  Dear friends,,  if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God (NIV)

I Jn 4:1 Dear friends, , do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. (NIV)

I Jn 4:7  Dear friends,,  let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. (NIV)

I Jn 4:11  Dear friends,,  since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. (NIV)

Papa John          <;D)))><<
Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

Ruth Ann...your meal sounded so good.  I suppose you ate all of it?  If not, maybe I'll come and have just a bite?  Of course, after you invite me. :)   I can just see you zipping around in your chair.  I have one of those chairs on wheels too.  I can sit here at the computer and lean back, or push over to the file cabinet, and never get up.

Janet, I'm heading to the prayer room now.  I wanted to know about Beth's appointment.

Judy.....when I come upon something like that......like your deer......I always feel so humbled and favored too.  I was raised in the country, and seeing deer was common.  But everyone felt something else when fawns would come out with mama.  It's like everything stopped for that moment.......sort of held it's breath.  Is that what you felt?  Get some rest now. huh?

Pat.....I'm Google clicking. :)

Hi PapaJohn.......you posted while I was getting ready to post.
