Morning Devotional...

THE HEART
of the
PROBLEM

Have you noticed that dishonourable conduct and downright dishonesty appear to be sweeping our nation from Parliament to the market place?  It seems that the depravity of man is in evidence everywhere.  Adulterous relationships are condoned.  Incest is on the increase and crimes of violence are reported on a daily basis in our newspapers.

On the international scene things are no better.  Terrorism, war, aggression and hate abound on every hand.  The humanists' dream of a world united in universal brotherhood and peace is but a hollow joke.  Man has proved that he can not govern his own lust for power and pleasure.  How then does he hope to rule creation in goodness and justice?

The sociologist and the humanist tell us that the problem lies not with man, but rather with man's environment.  Such an argument is surely foolish, for man has made his own environment what it is.  Our cities, our slums, our dens of iniquity, our battlefields and our bombs are all the products of man's depraved ingenuity.

Almost 2,000 years ago the Lord Jesus Christ declared man's heart to be the problem.  He said, "Out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies; these are the things which defile a man" (Matthew 15:19-20).  The Bible also asks a pertinent question and supplies the only reasonable answer:  "From whence come wars and fightings among you?  Come they not hence even of your lusts that war in your members?" (James 4:1).  This state of affairs is common to all human beings.  "For all have sinned and come short of the glory (standard) of God" (Romans 3:23).

All of us are born in bondage to iniquity (see Psalm 51:5) and we need to be set free.  The only one who can set us free from the slavery of sin is the Lord Jesus Christ.  He Himself said, "If the SON shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed" (John 8:36)

The good news of the gospel is that Jesus the spotless, sinless, Son of God became Man and paid the price necessary to redeem us from sin.  That was indeed a costly transaction, for He paid the price in His Own Blood.

The Bible says, "Ye were not redeemed with corruptible things such as silver and gold, from your vain conversation, received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious Blood of Christ, as a lamb without blemish and without spot" (I Peter 1:18, 19).

L. E. Jones, the hymn writer, knew the power of the redeeming Blood of Jesus when he wrote: "Would you be free from your burden of sin?  There's power in the Blood, Power in the Blood, Would you o'er evil the victory win?  There's wonderful power in the blood!"

Do you long to be cleansed and set free?  Then turn away from self and sin (repent) and place your trust in the Son of God who shed His Blood for sinners.  He was raised again from the dead to prove that He paid the redemption price in full.  Why not trust Him with your eternal destiny now?

The Bible declares that anyone who thus repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is saved for eternity and should:

  • Be baptized (immersed in water).   Matthew 28:19 & Acts 2:41
  • Join with others of like faith.                             Hebrews 10:25
  • Separate themselves from ungodly systems.  2 Corinthians 6:16
  • Tell others of God's grace.                               Matthew 28:19

    Would you be free from the burden of sin?
    There's power in the blood, power in the blood;
    Would you o'er evil a victory win?
    There's wonderful power in the blood.

    Refrain
    There is power, power, wonder working power
    In the blood of the Lamb;
    There is power, power, wonder working power
    In the precious blood of the Lamb.

    Would you be free from your passion and pride?
    There's power in the blood, power in the blood;
    Come for a cleansing to Calvary's tide;
    There's wonderful power in the blood.

    Refrain

    Would you be whiter, much whiter than snow?
    There's power in the blood, power in the blood;
    Sin stains are lost in its life giving flow.
    There's wonderful power in the blood.

    Refrain

    Would you do service for Jesus your King?
    There's power in the blood, power in the blood;
    Would you live daily His praises to sing?
    There's wonderful power in the blood.

Folks..

I have proved it.....I pled the blood in all my direst need. The Blood of Jesus never fails.

                "There is power, power, wonderworking power, in the precious Blood of the Lamb"

                                                          Jesus Christ is Lord.

Thanks dear Pat and Jack.

Pat & Jenny,

Refreshing thoughts this morning. Every time I hear of that Hymn I think of the Irish as no one sings it with such gusto as they do.

Having taken your needy soul to be washed in His precious blood at the foot of the cross dear Jenny, be sure to put on the robe of His righteousness as you go on your way. He bought it for you at a great price and He loves to see you wearing it.

You will find that it is a perfect fit and that it reflects the image of your Beloved Saviour Redeemer.

Not only does He clothe you with this beautiful robe, He also places a ring of reconciliation upon your finger and Gospel shoes on your feet.

Having risen from your bed a useless, worthless sinner now the day seems so much brighter after having met with the One you love. It is in this strength that we must face the day and all that it holds.

As He takes you by the hand, can you hear His whisper of love in your ear? - 'It is I, be not afraid.'

 :)  Good morning to all.  Am singing the song as I type this.  Thanks for the song, Pat, for the devotional and for the comments, Iain & Jenny

A beautiful day here in the sunny south.  The temp is in the 60's, the humidity is high and the day promises to be sunny and in the high 80's.  What a wonderful day the Lord has made so that I can rejoice and be glad in it....and it's Monday, too.

Tonight my "Class of '57" meets to  eat.  This is for the ones of us who are local and can get together about every other month or so. We wanted to meet more often than the 5-yr reunions that we normally have.

Off to Bible study...God bless all.  kathy :-*

Good morning, friends,

How delightful to see y'all already gathering in our quiet place.

So, Kathy, I see I have company in the "class of 57!" Hmmm - oughta drop in on your lunch sometime,  ;)

With all the work of the last week, I was tired so slept a bit late this morning. Now it's time to hurry, scurry to work.

Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hi everyone.  I have read through the postings in NEM since I posted yesterday morning.  Glad the problem with the reply button has been corrected.

Sorry to say I am not feeling much better today from this cold.  I spent most of the day sleeping and then went to bed early last night.  I did go to coffee this morning but that is likely to be about it for today.  I will have to contact the lady who is in charge of the Calvin Cove adult daycare center and reschedule our singing as don't think by tomorrow I will be ready to go and certainly don't want to place any of those folks at risk.

Pat, the devotional thoughts from Jack's writings is certainly on target.  Our news reports are full of such terrible things, including a young 15 year old girl and her 16 year old girl friend brutally murdering her grandparents, who were trying to provide her a home.  This is in a town south of Atlanta.

Will I am going to be brief today as my mind doesn't seem to want to function very well.

Sonifo

Good morning, folks!

I can't believe how cold it is here already.  It is down in the 70's. We didn't have to many hot days here like we normally do.  1 more month and school will start here.  This summer is going by so fast.

I won't be in here to much, I have a ton of things to get done this week for the church.

Hope you all have a good day.

Ed

HEY!  I'm (we're) back from our GREAT trip around SE USA.  This beautiful country that God gave us is really beautiful.... before you Canadians get upset.....so is Canada, just lotsa rocks...he! he!

We were at the Outer Banks 10 days before the hurricane hit Cape Hatteras and Ocracoke.   USA Today interviewed the manager of the Comfort Inn we stayed at...she said she watched the Coke and ice machine float away.  To think we coulda been there when it happened.

We went to different churches on our trip and heard some really great sermons.  In fact, I received an answer to one of my concerns at my home church.   I have been asked to serve as head of stewardship.  I received confirmation from three different sermons.....I'm ready ta go now!

Hi Everyone...

I have some errands to do today so I'll be running in and out and here and there.  But I'll check in when I can.

I'm so-o-o-o glad to see you, Iain.  God bless you my brother.  I pray daily for you and you are an inspiration to me.

What wonderful words!

It's so refreshing to read your words, Kathy that you are singing as you type!  ;D  That makes putting in these hymns so worthwhile and I wish that as Iain mentioned that everyone could drop into an Irish church and hear the congregation sing it.  Wow!

Dear Ruth Ann, my prayers are going heavenward for you this morning as you set off on another work week but you have so many trials and tribulations at home to think about.  I will be praying for you dear sister.  Love you.

HI NARDS!  It's so nice to see your name.  Give Karma a hug for me.

Thanks Marilyn for telling us of the update on Gloria.  As soon as I post this, I'll head right over to our Prayer and Praise area to see it.  Marilyn, it's so good too to see you in the Songs of Worship area.  Al Moak has done a stellar job on giving us a study on each and every Psalm.  There's a wealth of information there.  Leave him a message in any of the Psalms and let him know how much you all appreciate this wonderful work that the Lord allowed him to do.

SONGS OF WORSHIP...  Sometimes I'll pick up my Bible out in the living room and read a Psalm and then I'll come and see what Al had to say about what I just read.  I find it very enlightening.

We'll miss you this week, Soni.  But what a wonderful work you're doing.  Try to drop in whenever you can.

Oh, Ed!  What a wonderful vacation you must have had!  I'm so glad to see you back and posting.  I'm happy that you weren't at that hotel when the hurricaine hit!

I'm so sorry that you are still under the weather, Larry.  Not pleasant having a summer cold.  Hope you're taking lots of Vitamin C!  ;D  Take care now.  We love you and Pat.

Well, I'm singing here as I type as well, Kathy but I must get on my horse and do my errands.

I do hope that Grandmaemt stops in and sees the fun and fellowship we have in here on her birthday.  Let's all make sure we greet her with "Happy Birthday" in case she does.

Talk to you all later.

"Click for Waterloo Wellington, Ontario Forecast"

Janet

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GRANDMAEMT!!!  AND MANY MORE!

Larry, I surely hope you will soon be over that miserable cold.  Those can really drag you down.  And, like Pat said, be sure to take plenty of vitamin C, and wash your hands well and often!  ;) :) (Not that you need any advice from ME.)

The boys were playing on my computer last night, so I wasn't aware of the lock problem.  But we will have to watch for that in the future.

I slept maybe 2 hours last night, so am feeling really tired and draggy today.  I pray I won't be cranky with the kids.  They have so little time to spend with me, and I don't want to spoil it by beiing grouchy.  Abby stayed home last night, she was really worn out and whiny.  She never gets that way unless she is really tired.  I guess playing with these big boys was too much for her!

Marilyn, I sort of would like a new sewing machine, but I don't sew much any more, so don't know that it would be worth the expense.  I know they must really be nice, with all the new stuff they do now.  I have my sister's (the one who was killed in a car crash) old Slant-O-Matic Singer, and it always did a terrific job, but the last time I tried to use it, it wouldn't even hum.  Wouldn't do anything---acted like it wasn't even plugged in!  I have another one that I bought in an auction, so I use it when I need to do a bit of sewing; then I also now have my Mom's old Singer.  Anyway, TMI, but enjoy your new machine!  I used to make all of my dresses, dresses for the four girls, and shirts for the boys.  The last dress I made was for Abby's first birthday.  :-\

This is such strange weather!  Cool at night in in the mornings, but with very high humidity.  It has never been so humid here before---and we don't enjoy it.  We do enjoy getting more moisture, so guess we shouldn't complain.

Sarah, you're a busy gal!  I hope you have a great Senior year in high school.  Enjoy your youth, as most of here know, it is gone before you realize it!  :)

I hear Ruffles squawking, so I need to go feed her and give her fresh water. See you later.

Al ~ I wish I could take credit for the link to the transcript of the interview with Joni Eareckson Tada but I can't.   :-[  One person on CP sent me the transcript on WORD and another on CP sent me the link on the web.  I was just sharing...but thanks anyway.

Pat ~ Oh my, did I click the wrong button?     :-\  If I did, or any of the moderators, I am sure we didn't intend to click the LOCK button.  Glad you found out the problem.

Papa John ~ I am sure the elderly at the nursing home will appreciate the new version of 'Jesus Loves Me'.  I like it.  I don't consider myself elderly.....yet but I am certainly leaning more that direction than middle age.   :o

Sarah ~ When you are young you can get soaking wet and it doesn't bother you.  Enjoy your youth while you can.  The older you get, the more it seems you wonder where your youth went.   8)

Liz ~ It seems that our weather is milder each year...summer and winter.  We haven't even gotten to 90° but then, school hasn't started yet or the State Fair isn't here yet.   ::)

Judy Mc ~ Thanks for the link that I mentioned above.  Now you know, folks!   ;)

Pat ~ Thank you for the devotion of Jack's.   :)

Jenny ~ Good morning, Jenny!   :)

Iain ~ Thank you, brother, for your comments.   :)

Kathy ~ I wish my class of '60 would meet every month or so.    ???  Perhaps on our 45 year anniversary next year, we will discuss that to see if it would be enjoyable to all who live close.

Ruth Ann ~ I am so glad you got some much needed rest so you may face the coming week of work.   ;)

Hi Nards!!!  Glad you sneaked in!   :-*  Give Karma and Travis hugs from me.

Marilyn ~ Whew!  I feel so young with Kathy, Ruth Ann and you from the class of '57.   ;)  ;D

Larry ~ So glad to hear you are on the mend.  Those summer colds can really get you down.  So sorry to hear about the murder of the grandparents in Georgia.  When I was that age, I didn't even know such a thing was possible to do.   :'(

Sonja ~ I delight in knowing you are spending time with your kids and your church.  Isn't that a wonderful feeling?   :)

Fast Eddie ~ I have spent two night on Ocrakoke at two different years.  I don't know how it is today but then, when the sun went down they folded up the sidewalks...nothing happening anywhere.  What a great place to sit back and reflect on your life.   :D  So glad you got answers from sermons.  That is a great feeling, also.

Nice and sunny here in Indiana.  I have a couple of loads of clothes on the line.  Ivalou just got through mowing but my grass doesn't seem to grow as fast as hers so I am not mowing yet.  I received a call from my son this morning and he had a wonderful weekend with his in-laws and his wife.  Life is looking up for them, thank God.

We can all relate to the thought below!!!

Good Morning from sunny Vancouver Island.  We are having a nice day and it won't get as hot as predicted.  Should stay in the 80's F. Thank you for the devotional and hymn Pat.  It is certainly right on target.  Read a religious poll result that stated only 30% of Canadians think it is necessary to believe in God in order to be a moral person....58% in America.  Seems in America there is only one category of person who can't be elected and that is an Atheist.  In Canada there's a category of person who can't be elected and that is a person who is an ostentatious religious person.  I am only stating what the poll reported.  69% of Canadians believe in heaven, only 43% believe in hell.  81% of Americans believe in heaven and 70% believe in hell and the devil.  The poll was taken in response to a conference: God's Back--with a Vengeance.  One professor from Ottawa made the comment, "God isn't back,"  He's always been there...just not attracting our attention."

On a happier note, for Janet, Marilyn and all folks with small grandkids, I discovered an interesting free site that brings back the joy of Paper Dolls.  Could be you already know about it?  I tried it and it's fun!! ;D

www.paperdollheaven.com

How wonderful to see you back Iain.  I have missed your wise words and am always grateful for your postings.  That goes for you also Jenny...

I must go and start doing housework now.  Got behind when the Wasp Sting made me rather ill for a couple of days.  Sure hope that little critter bit the dust.

Pleasant day all and God Bless.

Liz

CHANGE NOT THY FAITH WITH CHANGING TIMES

Janet

I took the boys to the pool and did a couple of errands, then came home and got a little nap.  They should be calling me to come pick them up pretty soon.  I was just about to fall asleep on my feet.

All three of the boys have paintings started.  I hope I remember to take photos so I can show you when they get finished.  This is Addison's first one.

Darrel just told me the weather report says we are to get more rain storms this evening, and it is looking like it!

Hi, Etta Sue!

Liz, thanks for the paper doll link, I will show it to Abby when she comes back.  Hmmmm..........I wonder where those people think God has been?  Sort of reminds me of the "God is dead" nonsense from a few years back.  "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God!"  But so incredibly wonderful to be in His hands of your own choice.

Nothing new to say, just checking in again.  Pat must be having a busy day!  Hi, Pat!

Thought I would stop in to say hi.  HI!

I need to go play with the kids.

Later folks.

Missing you, Karma and Nards.  :D

Eddie, I was hoping to hear from y'all on August 3 and 4. Hope you enjoyed Nashville and visiting with your friends in Franklin.

Well, I finally decided to get that long-needed haircut. I reached my boss on his cell phone and told him I had awakened with "hair all over my head" this morning and that I had a haircut appointment. After he finished laughing, he said that with all the work I left for him to do in the hotel room tonight, he thought I should take the time for that haircut.

On Thursday I'll be participating in an awards ceremony at work so wanted the hair to have time to "settle in" before then.

Well, y'all have a great day.

I have just finished  canning 4 1/2 pints of Blueberry jam. Safeway had Blueberries 2.5 lbs, for $4.99. Couldn't pass that up. Although somewhaere around McKinleyville there is a blueberry farm where you can pick your own. i will have to check on that. So far I have 16 jars of jam. I will probably bre giving away jams for christmas.

I am really tired today and I got up this morning with a headache so I didn't go for prayer meeting, the headach finally left about 10 am.

Thank you Pat for  mentioning the Psalms. I have checked in there from time to time to read but not post. Al already knows that, as I told him on the phone. I am starting to go through the Psalms again, So I will be in that thread daily  until they are completed.

Etta Sue what are you trying to say about Kathy Ruth ann and I, that we are "that" much older than you are. ;D

Oh, my!  Only 20 posts up till now!  Where is everyone?

I've been in and out all day.  I went to an accountant away over on the other side of Guelph and parked the car, got out and realized that I had forgotten an important envelope and had to drive all the way home, get the envelope and go back.  Then I was there till about 5 pm and then did a bit of shopping.

It's now 8:30 and I'm going to make myself a bit of supper.  Really late tonight!

I'm so glad, Rachel, that you are enjoying the hymns.  I'll have to look out another.  I'm off to see Dexter!

Papa John

We have had a pretty quiet day today.  I got some reading done.  I also prepared my talk for Thursday.  This afternoon I laid back in my recliner and fell asleep and didn't wake up for an hour.

Some of Paul's writings are so poignant we need to read slowly and then read again and then look in our own hearts to see if we have accepted these principles and applied them to our lives.

1Thes 5:15-23
15   Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.
16   Be joyful always;
17   pray continually;
18   give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
19   Do not put out the Spirit's fire;
20   do not treat prophecies with contempt.
21   Test everything. Hold on to the good.
22   Avoid every kind of evil.
23   May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  (NIV)

Hi Alma!

I hope you post your photos here on CP that are on Photo-Sense.  Just use the MEDIUM-SIZED one--the one that you can see where you have the Title, etc.  It's 400 pixels wide or high and will be just fine to post on these boards.  Don't post the large one.

I know that the folks here would love to see them who don't go to Photo-Sense.
