JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Morning Devotional...

Trials and Pain:
Ordered By the Lord

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand.
-Psalm 37:23-24

To the child of God, there is no such thing as accident. He travels an appointed way. The path he treads was chosen for him when as yet he was not, when as yet he had existence only in the mind of God.

Accidents may indeed appear to befall him and misfortune stalk his way; but these evils will be so in appearence only and will seem evils only because we cannot read the secret script of God's hidden providence and so cannot discover the ends at which He aims....

The man of true faith may live in the absolute assurance that his steps are ordered by the Lord. For him, misfortune is outside the bounds of possibility. He cannot be torn from this earth one hour ahead of the time which God has appointed, and he cannot be detained on earth one moment after God is done with him here. He is not a waif of the wide world, a foundling of time and space, but a saint of the Lord and the darling of His particular care.
We Travel an Appointed Way, pp. 3-4

"I worship and praise You this morning for this: 'the absolute assurance that his steps are ordered by the Lord.' And for the fact that 'misfortune is outside the bounds of possibility.' What a privilege to be 'a darling of His particular care.' Wow! Amen."

Thanks for the devotional thoughts, Pat ... I so agree!  I KNOW that my steps are ordained by the Lord.  My Father takes such good care of me!   :)

Last week a lady called me and said the Lord had impressed her to buy me a cord of wood ... She came over and we went over some ads in the shopper and called a few numbers but could only leave messages ... One ad was for 1/2 a cord and I suggested that would be okay. She said "No, He said a cord."  She left $150 with me and I called a number on Saturday morning and got an answer the frst time....They advertised a cord of mixed fire wood, seasoned, split and delivered for $150.   :)   Today the wood was delivered and my neighbors brought their wheelbarrow over and helped me transfer the wood from the drive to the back of the house and stack it!

My Father knows what I need ... and when I need it He supplies it.  To live like this is the only way to go .....  :thumbsup:
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

I am not feeling so good this morning so would y-all pray for me.
My upper chest (bronchial area) has a burning sensation and feels rather tight. It feels like I want to cough but  can not just yet. I have been talking to the Lord this morning telling that I just can't afford to be sick at this part of the month with my rent due from my next pay check. I have feeling that He is wanting me to rest and this is the only way He can get me to slow down and rest.

 :aaah: Marilyn, I do hope you get to feeling better soon.  This close to Christmas is a bad time to feel sick.  And I've already prayed for you too!

Pat I really liked the devotional for today.

Marilyn - the devotional, I'm sure you noticed, is right on for you this morning.  You, being bound by time, can only see the rent due and the work time missed, but He sees over and beyond that.  He even knows your needs more fully than you do!  And He's gracious and merciful and kind.  He'll supply your real need, the one He alone sees.  May He therefore give you deep rest if that's what you now need.  Father, I pray for Marilyn, that You'll let her know that Your hand is upon her for good today.  Oh supply her need, Father, and grant her to know Your Presence with her today through our Lord Jesus.

Good morning!  First day of winter!!  :'(

I went to a 6th Grade Music Program last evening with Ivalou.  How great these kids were.  And to think they didn't play any instruments prior to 6th grade.  The chorus sang about 12 songs.  Then the orchestra played about 6 songs...not a screech on a violin either.  And the band played about 6 songs...not a sour note heard.  The gym was full of families and friends.  A great inspirational evening.

It is bright and sunny here in Indiana but deceiving...only 25°F.  Janet, praying for you and Beth.  Marilyn, praying you get to feeling great and back to work soon.  Thanks to who all contributed to the suicide question...I feel better now.  Jane, praises go out for your cord of wood.  God is good all the time.

Angels From the Realms of Glory
(Click to hear music)

"A great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests.'" Luke 2:13-14

Words: James Montgomery, in his Sheffield newspaper, Iris, Christmas Eve, 1816. It was published again in Christian Psalmist, 1825. Stanza 5 is from The Christmas Box, 1825

Music: "Regent Square," Henry T. Smart, in Psalms and Hymns for Divine Worship (London: 1867)

Angels from the realms of glory,
Wing your flight o'er all the earth;
Ye who sang creation's story
Now proclaim Messiah's birth.

Refrain
Come and worship, come and worship
Worship Christ, the newborn King.

Shepherds, in the field abiding,
Watching o'er your flocks by night,
God with us is now residing;
Yonder shines the infant light:

Refrain

Sages, leave your contemplations,
Brighter visions beam afar;
Seek the great Desire of nations;
Ye have seen His natal star.

Refrain

Saints, before the altar bending,
Watching long in hope and fear;
Suddenly the Lord, descending,
In His temple shall appear.

Refrain

Sinners, wrung with true repentance,
Doomed for guilt to endless pains,
Justice now revokes the sentence,
Mercy calls you; break your chains.

Refrain

Though an Infant now we view Him,
He shall fill His Father's throne,
Gather all the nations to Him;
Every knee shall then bow down:

Refrain

All creation, join in praising
God, the Father, Spirit, Son,
Evermore your voices raising
To th'eternal Three in One.

Refrain

Good morning---it IS still morning, isn't it?  I have had a good hour and a half workout, showered and dressed and am ready for whatever the day brings my way.  Some kind folks who own a flower shop here are paying for everyone's lunch at the Senior Center today, and since we will be out and about doing errands, we plan to go and enjoy it.  A band is playing for our entertainment, too.  :)

Update on Beth:  I got hold of her yesterday, and John had taken her out to the mall.  She said she felt a little better, maybe. (??)  Continued prayers appreciated.

Liz, since you watched the Walters show, what is your opinion?  Also, did anyone watch "The Mystery of Christmas" last night?  I watched parts of each, but don't want to express my opinion before hearing yours.

Thanks to all who gave their take on the issue of suicide.  I appreciate hearing your views.

Marilyn, prayers for a quick recovery for you!  (((hug)))

Still lots to do, better get busy!

WOO-HOO!!  Jeff just called to tell us they have arranged to rent a plane in Liberal; Mark has gotten "checked out" in it, and he wants to take his grandparents up for a ride!!  (That would be US-- ;D)

So, in the morning, we will drive to Liberal and enjoy our very first flight with our young pilot!  :thumbsup:

Hi everyone.  We are enjoying sort of a decompress day as our family Christmas is over and the hustle and bustle that goes with preparations of food, decorating, and gift buying.  Our poor son and daughter-in-law had quite a day yesterday.  They spent 3 hours, almost of which was waiting, in the doctor's office.  Then they had another three hours at the hospital for the pre-op.

They finally got here around 6:30 pm and we enjoyed a lovely dinner and then our family gift exchange.

Marilyn, I hope you are not coming down with another cold.

Janet, the florist is certainly doing a nice thing for your community.  Hope you have a delicious meal and good entertainment.  Glad to hear that things are looking up a bit for Beth.  While I was writing you posted again about your plane flight tomorrow.  We will be anxious for a report

Etta Sue, sounds like a nice program.  Glad you were able to attend.

Jane, a cord of wood from an unexpected source--how wonderful.  Is that enough wood for the winter?

It is time for a nap and I turned my electric blanket on so think I will make this short.

I have been to the doctor and both she and the nurse confirmed that I need to rest for a few days. I am coming down with bronchitis, so here comes the Vit. C and zinc, chicken soup and Nature's antibiotic (Russian Penicillin) of raw garlic. she gave me a script for a Z pack but told me I am not sick enough to get it filled yet.( Looking out for my pocket book). So I am taking off work until Monday when I should be once again in tip top shape.

I have a tea bag steeping (Orange spice) in hot water and a piece of smashed garlic resting for 10 minutes on a piece of bread, allowing all the good stuff in the garlic to surface before I eat it. There is a load of wash going and another waiting. Rest??? Easy to say not so easy to do. At least I am staying in the house.

I went by Fay's to get here groceries in so she will have plenty to eat while I am off, called the rest of the client's and told them what is going on.

I forgot to mention that they are sending out an Oxymeter tomorrow to test my Oxygen levels at night when I am sleeping and reordering my Home Traction Unit. I give it back because Medicare didn't want to pay for it Now my dr. is angry with Medicare and wrote another letter to the Supplier for another unit.

It's still morning (barely) here on the west coast ... I just got Joy's hurried email that she wrote as she and John were leaving for the airport.  It will be a very long day for them as they fly to the States for a couple weeks.  They will be with John's family in San Jose for Christmas and then in Sacramento for a few days before flying to Portland, OR where they will get to see John's first grandbaby, up close and personal, for the first time!  She spoke with Bryan this morning and he is loving his job (at Chevron) and working over time and double time on Christmas.  It's good to know he is getting along better and they will be visiting him soon even if it is after Christmas.  He is feeling a bit nostalgic about that but, as Joy says, everyone gets that feeling around Christmas.

Larry~A cord of wood will probably keep me through the winter because I will be careful about how I use it.  Also, after this wintry weather is calmed down a bit (and I have more room in my woodshed) I have the offer of more wood if I cut and haul it myself.  I have good friends who have offered to help with that, too.  That will give me a start on next winter and it can be seasoning all summer.   :thumbsup:

Janet~I'm glad you had a better report from Beth ... I will continue to keep you all in my prayers.

Enjoy that flight with your young pilot  :D

Marilyn~
Stay in and stay warm ... Take it easy for a while and enjoy your time for RESTING!  True, you are still keeping busy but it isn't the same as you have to do for your clients and you aren't in and out of the weather .... There's a difference.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Interesting Devotional, Pat.  I always feel that God will take care of things, even when we are trying to do things on our own.  Sort of like being on a short leash!

Sorry that you are feeling ill, Marilyn.  You and Amanda seem to be sharing a similar virus.  She is going to work this afternoon and not feeling well.  I made her some chicken soup and gave echinaforce and vit. C, which she takes with great distaste.....Wendy is out this morning and I went up to check on her and Squeek.

Janet, you ask questions that I also am not fond of answering....Have not seen the movie mentioned and would have been fine without the Barbara Walters Special.  My opinion:  It was an interesting picture of religious differences.  Not a helpful way to reach heaven.  I did experience a wonderful feeling of peace when listening to the Black Preacher from an Evangelical Church.  Do not remember what church, only that the Holy Spirit was present.

I am not great on religion, tho' very big on Christianity.  Do not think the two mean the same thing.  We have a material/spiritual heaven around us now, here on earth.  Where there are angelic and godly forces, as well as the Demonic forces and powers.  Sort of a Spiritual Atmosphere, cohabited by both good and evil.  The final heaven...where Satan was cast out....and God dwells, that is what I hope to one day see and be a part of.  A place of rest, peace, fellowship with God.  Not something I give a lot of thought to in terms of any kind of reward, 'cause goodness knows, without salvation, this person would never get there.  Simply a wonderful, safe place to dwell. :)

So having said that, will wish all a Pleasant Day and God Bless.

Liz

It Came Upon a Midnight Clear
(Click to hear music)

There were shepherds living out in the fields nearby,
keeping watch over their flocks at night.
An angel of the Lord appeared to them,
and the glory of the Lord shone around them,
and they were terrified.
Luke 2:8-9

Words: Edmund H. Sears
Music: Richard S. Willis, 1850

It came upon the midnight clear,
That glorious song of old,
From angels bending near the earth,
To touch their harps of gold;
Peace on the earth, good will to men,
From Heaven's all gracious King.
The world in solemn stillness lay,
To hear the angels sing.

Still through the cloven skies they come
With peaceful wings unfurled,
And still their heavenly music floats
O'er all the weary world;
Above its sad and lowly plains,
They bend on hovering wing,
And ever over its Babel sounds
The blessed angels sing.

Yet with the woes of sin and strife
The world has suffered long;
Beneath the angel strain have rolled
Two thousand years of wrong;
And man, at war with man, hears not
The love-song which they bring;
O hush the noise, ye men of strife
And hear the angels sing.

And ye, beneath life's crushing load,
Whose forms are bending low,
Who toil along the climbing way
With painful steps and slow,
Look now! for glad and golden hours
Come swiftly on the wing.
O rest beside the weary road,
And hear the angels sing!

For lo! the days are hastening on,
By prophet-bards foretold,
When with the ever circling years
Comes round the age of gold;
When peace shall over all the earth
Its ancient splendors fling,
And the whole world send back the song
Which now the angels sing.

Well I have started to run a fever so my pastor's wife is going to Costco in the morning after her radiation treatment to pick up my Z-Pack, I will be well for Christmas. She has just come by to get my script, Costco card and the money.Jesus has promised that If we believe that we will have what we ask for in prayer  then we will have it. I expect my healing to come forth asap. Jesus does use Doctor's from time to time.

I am going to bed.

Hope your recovery is speedy Marilyn!!!

I am exhausted.  Did that CHRISTmas shopping thing.  Just have one or two little things to pick up.  The great news is that I found some really, really good deals.  One store had fleece pull-overs for 25.99 or 2 for 19.99.  Hmmmmmmm?  Picked up about four of them, for the nephews. ;)

Take care and I "see" you laters!

Marilyn, get well soon.  Don't like to hear of you being ill.

We just got home from an evening of caroling with the church members.  They borrowed a bus, so we could all ride together, and it was fun.  We went to several elderly members' homes, to the Assisted Living place and to the Care Home.  It is a lovely night out, clear and still; and not very cold at all.  Some didn't even have on coats!  And this is officially the first day of winter!  :o  Earlier in the day, it actually felt warm!  I like it!  ;)

The band that entertained us at noon was made up of 9 high school kids with brass band instruments.  They played about 12 different Christmas carols, and I really enjoyed them.  The food wasn't anything to brag about, though.  :P  But the price was right!  ^-^ ;)

Liz, I didn't care at all for either of the programs; especially when that woman declared emphatically "Heaven doesn't exist, and hell doesn't exist!  This life is all there is!"  I thought, Lady, you are in for one heck of a shock!  :o

And the one on the Mystery of Christmas, was mostly them saying things like Jesus wasn't born in Bethlehem but somewhere else; or He wasn't born at all; it is just a bunch of made-up stories; etc. etc. etc.  Yuck. :uglystupid: :uglystupid: :uglystupid:

I just wanted to check in before going to bed.  I hope Marilyn feels better in the morning; I'm praising God along with Jane for a lovely cord of wood; and I wish all of you a wonderful, restful, peaceful night of sleep.  See you tomorrow.

AT THE GRAND CANYON, our guide was a student who attended college in a large city. We asked him what he felt was the greatest change in going from rural to urban living.
     "In the city," he said, "you can only see from horizon to horizon what man has made." Then he looked out over the awe-inspiring splendor of the canyon. "Here," he concluded softly, "you can see from horizon to horizon what God has made."
