Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Just for you!

Pat The Brian I refer to is a Pastor whom I met on the web.  I told him about this site and he said he thought it was lovely to see so many Christians all friends together....At the time I urged him to pop in again and say Hi".  Hopefully he will do so...

Larry Enjoy the service! My son Chris used to light the Advent Candles in church when he was a boy. The Anglican Church tends to give this task to the children or alter servers. It is a lovely service and a special honour....Oh Happy memories!

I am going off to have a little read of "The Imitation of Christ" ...

Love,
Speak later.

Papa John

I was delighted to see Mieka today.  God bless you Mieka.

Lee, I seem to be your age because I was 14, Dec. 7, 1941.  I went in the Navy in May '45 just shortly before the war was over.  I was 18 on May 10 of that year.

We worshipped this morning in a town near here where our son-in-law preaches.  Tonight we have a special program at church, "Dinner in Bethlehem."  There will be displays depicting scenes in and near Bethlehem with shepherds, sheep, the manger scene, etc. and we will enjoy dinner together.

Luke 2:6-14
6   While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,
7   and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
8   And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.
9   An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
10   But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
11   Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.
12   This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
13   Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14   "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
(NIV)

The tradition has been for a family with young children to light the advent candle each week but this year our pastor decided to do something different.

He visits one of our older shut-ins with a video camera, has him/her light a candle (which the pastor re-lights before the service), and  has the person reminisce about what Christmas was like in his/her childhood.  Then the video is played during the service.

What a wonderful day this has been.  Our church was full to share the worship experience of the "Gloria" and things went very well.  It was a special honor, one we had never experienced before as active participants, to be in the Advent Service.  Fortunately, I didn't stumble over my eye teeth and the lighter worked to light the two candles (although we had a couple of minutes of concern before the service in how to get the thing to work but finally figured it out.)  There was a child safety lock on it and it took some study to figure out.  This was a Sunday morning I will not soon forget.  Al, I believe God did bless our singing this morning.

This evening, I am going to a concert at our church put on by the Choral Guild of our county.  About 20 years ago both my son and I sang in this Choral Guild for one year and really enjoyed it.

Sonja, sorry that I didn't extend a happy birthday wish to Lila Mae yesterday.  I met to do that and then forgot.

Marilyn, hope you ward off that cold and that your son is feeling better.

Ria, congratulations to Holland on the birth of the crown princess.  Does this mean she is the heir apparent to the throne in your country?

Papa John, your "Dinner at Bethlehem"  sounds like a very nice occasion.  Hope you and Cornelia have a good time and a good meal.

Jeanne, that is a nice thing your pastor thought of as a way of including some who cannot make it to church in this special service.

Maria

Well I kicked that old serpent in the head and went to church anyway. I am so glad that I did. Pastor had a wonderful message for us on the Mind and how we have THE MIND OF CHRIST. The musical praise and worship was just beautiful as we sang about our Savior. This evening the youth take over the service presenting it all for all the church. I will let you all know how that was when I get back home. From 4-5 will be prayer intercession for the city, 5-6 will be family fun and eats then 6-7 the service. I am going to take photos of the decorations at the church.

Just before church began this morning the rain and the hail you would not believe. The water was absolutley rushing out of the downspouts from the roof. People were coming through the front door soaked. One lady told me that it was not raining on the freeway coming in this direction, but when she got to the top of the hill into McKinleyville she could see the  rain and hail in town. Well here it  comes again. It is coming down in BUCKETS. Praise the Lord that my roof got fixed when it did.

Do You Hear What I Hear?
(Click to hear music)

Said the night wind to the little lamb,
do you see what I see
Way up in the sky, little lamb,
do you see what I see
A star, a star, dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite
With a tail as big as a kite

Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy,
do you hear what I hear
Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy,
do you hear what I hear
A song, a song, high above the trees
With a voice as big as the sea
With a voice as big as the sea

Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king,
do you know what I know
In your palace warm, mighty king,
do you know what I know
A Child, a Child shivers in the cold
Let us bring Him silver and gold
Let us bring Him silver and gold

Said the king to the people everywhere,
listen to what I say
Pray for peace, people everywhere!
listen to what I say
The Child, the Child, sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
He will bring us goodness and light

Darrel, Beth and I attended church this morning; then at one, I met a friend and we went on the Parade of homes here in town.  We visited three homes, the library and the museum, all decked out for Christmas.  It was fun.

How wonderful to see a post from our dear  MIEKA!!  I'm sorry I wasn't online so I could talk to you, but it is great to hear from you.  Come in as often as you can and let us know how you're doing!  ;D ::)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MELAURA!!  AND MANY MORE!!

Sarah, I was really happy to see our Wildcats defeat the Sooners, too!  (Sarah lives in Oklahoma, but she is a K-State fan!)  Now our KC Chiefs are playing the Denver Broncos.  Go, Chiefs!  (And I'm not really a football fan.)  ;)

Pat, hope you are having a great day with your kids and grands.

Larry, I wish I could have heard your choir sing today.  I know it must have been wonderful!

Ria, the church Beth attends always has a chair for her.  That is such a small service, I would think they would be more than happy to provide it.  How sad they take the attitude they do.  :'(  I hope you find a more welcoming place to worship.

Talk more later!

Ria, well done, I guess the Lord is saying "move on lady" remember He goes before you,
God bless.

Karma - we were talking about 12/7/41 - 2nd world war, so I was just saying how thankful I am that - at the moment - we don't have a war.  Wars are horrible things.  They are certainly evidence of man's sin.  But I'm not at all opposed to our nation being involved in a just war.

Jerry L. Sowers

Everyone that is having trouble with their posts should use their notepad. It would make their job simple. If the site goes down you can save it to post later, besides being able to post it without losing it. I use my notepad a lot.

Remember God is with you!

May God bless and keep you

Janet

Al---we certainly ARE involved in a war right now!  What do you call it?  Every week, we lose more of our service people!  That is WAR!!  And yes, it is terrible.
My book Rising Above available at JanetDamon.com

Al...........

I know what you mean by "Not being in a war at this time".  The war we are in at the present time is in fact killing our kids, but yes, praise God we are not in an all out shooting and bombing war between nations.  I also agree with you and we know that God not only supports, but backs-up any nation fighting in a "Righteous" war.

Pappa John and Larry..........

I've had "Dinner AFTER Bethlehem".  We were on the Mount of Olives at the International Hotel. ;)

I read in the paper today where two teenagers were on an airplane enroute to Honolulu with their parents to see the Arizona Memorial.  One of the girls was overheard to say....."I don't know why we're going there, it's just a place where a bunch of people were bombed."  This speaks of the lack of history in High School.  I've read where most high schools no longer teach history at all.  They believe there is no need for it in today's world of computers.  Again......"Pity"

Sarah

Hey ya'll,
How are you? i'm doing ok got a bit of a cold still and am slowly losing my voice  :-\ it's not a good thing. we have a game tuesday, thursday, friday and saturday this week. it will be a FUN week.  i really like when we havea  bunch of basketball games all at once. today i played some songs with our praise band at church. it was fun. we also had our fall ingathering (which is a big meal) well i'm going to go catch up on everything else

Well, hello everyone!

I'm home from Andrew's and Terena's where we had a good feed of Andrew's chili.  It was delicious. And now I'm listening to "Do You Hear What I Hear?"

Thanks Jeanne!  That was lovely!

Only two of the 5 grands were there as three are fighting strep throat so stayed home so as not to pass it on to us.

I'm sure that what Al is meaning is a World War.  We certainly aren't involved in a World War right now like the First World War and the Second World War.  And it was going on for two years before this historic day in 1941 too.

For instance, Canada isn't at war right now.  We have troops in various places but just as peace corps.  The wars in 1939-45 and 1914-1918 involved mostly the whole of the populated civilized world and I'm certainly glad that we aren't involved in anything like that right now.  By the way, I was only 1 1/2 years old on that day in 1941 so I don't remember it very well.  ;)  My uncle (Dad's older brother) was involved in both of these wars as Regimental Sergeant Major of the 48th Highlanders.

But oh, how we must pray for the troops that are involved in Iraq and other places.  It's terrible and war is terrible.

Ria, your new little princess is a lovely little lassie!  She's beautiful!

Jenny, that would be nice if Brian came and got to know us.

December 7, 1941, I think anyone who was around remembers what they were doing that day.  I was 13 years old at the time.

We lived in a very small town, and had two milk cows that we kept in a pasture a short way from our home.  It was my job to take the cows to the pasture every morning after milking and bring them home every evening for milking where they would  spend the night in our barn.

That evening as I was passing a neighbors house, I was riding one cow and leading the other,  the neighbor had her radio on and told me the news,

We as a Nation came together as probably no other time in history then or since.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding; In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.
Proverb 3:5-6

Jeanne Lee

I was nine years old.  My father had been listening to the news reports on the radio every night (remember Lowell Thomas?) and I remember being very afraid we were going to be attacked like the people in Europe I'd been hearing about.  I had no idea where Pearl Harbor was - Hawaii was just a name to me then.

Dec 7, 41..I was 2 years old and don't remember a thing about it then..but I do remember the ration books (because Mama saved mine) and I remember the soldiers who took training in Camden and stayed at our house.  One of them gave me a stuffed rabbit I slept with for years and named him "Pootsie".
War is terrible and there are times when we can avoid it and times when we should not such as 12/7/41.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MELAURA.. a teenager now!! :) :)

The youth put on a wonderful service tonight, some of yus prayed for 2 hours before the service for those who were participating. I took photos of the church Christmas decoration to post here and some of the youth worship team and a ground of dancers. There was a wonderful message given by one of the teachers. So now I will check the prayer thread and other forums before I go to bed, I will say nitey nitey now.

Hi everyone.

Mieka how nice to read your message.  I do miss your cheery posts.

Happy belated Birthday to you Lila Mae. Sonja I hope your day with your family was a joyful one as you celebrated your baby's 2nd birthday.

Happy 13th birthday Melaura.

I have spent my weekend getting my Christmas cards ready for the mail so haven't been on the computer much at all.  I only have 4 more letters to write and then the cards can go in the mail.

Night everyone!

karmat

I'll grant you, we are not in a world war right now, but ask the mom of any serviceman right now (or grandmom) in Iraq, and it's still a war.

Something I learned at the aviation museum in TN a few months ago was that the Germans sunk a US sub off the coast of Cape Hatteras, NC during WWII.  That was pretty doggone close to the states.  I always associated all the fighting as being in Europe or the Pacific.  I never realized just how close it was to the states.

Bernard's grandfather was in WWII.  I forgot where all he served.  He will talk about the war in general, but he will not discuss specific battles to any great lenght.   :-\

On a brighter note.  Happy belated birthday Lila Mae.  The big 2.  WooHOo.  Travis will be there in about a month!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MELAURA!!!

I hope all of you have a wonderful night.
