Morning Devotional...

Glorifying Your God

In 1Cor.10:31, it's telling us that everything we do should have the purpose of glorifying God.  To "glorify" Him is to do things in such a way that people (or angels, etc.) will speak well of Him.  It's rather like the case of a teacher of a vocational class.  If a student who takes the class is observed to be doing his/her job with great excellence, that excellence will reflect upon the teacher.  They'll say, whoever takes his/her class seems to do very, very well here on the job.  The teacher is thereby "glorified."

How about your life, your conversation, your relationships - do they glorify your Teacher?  Do you begin the day by asking your Lord (Teacher) to help you to be sharp, helpful, gracious, gentle, and just plain good?  Do you ask God to reveal to them that He's the Teacher?  Do you thank Him at the end of the day for what He's done in and through you, and do you confess the occasions on which you fell short?

He Leadeth Me

He leadeth me: O blessed thought!
Oh words with heavenly comfort fraught
Whate'er I do, where'er I be,
Still 'tis God's hand that leadeth me.

He leadeth me, He leadeth me,
by His own hand He leadeth me:
His faithfyul follower I would be,
For by His hand He leadeth me.

He leadeth me, O blessed thought!
O words with heavenly comfort fraught!
Whate'er I do, where?er I be
Still 'tis God's hand that leadeth me.

Refrain
He leadeth me, He leadeth me,
By His own hand He leadeth me;
His faithful follower I would be,
For by His hand He leadeth me.

Sometimes mid scenes of deepest gloom,
Sometimes where Eden?s bowers bloom,
By waters still, over troubled sea,
Still 'tis His hand that leadeth me.

Refrain

Lord, I would place my hand in Thine,
Nor ever murmur nor repine;
Content, whatever lot I see,
Since 'tis my God that leadeth me.

Refrain

And when my task on earth is done,
When by Thy grace the victory's won,
E'en death's cold wave I will not flee,
Since God through Jordan leadeth me.

I have just finished copying today's devotional and putting it in my daily journal....thank you, Al Moak for reminding me about Glorifying God.
After I got home from church last night I have misplaced my Bible and this morning I was LOST without it, even though I have Quick Verse on the computer it is just not the same.

I was asked last night about a song a member of our choir has misplaced...it is an old Latvian song..."My God and I walked through the fields together"...and she cannot find her music.  Do any of you maybe know where we can find the words or music so that she can sing it at church?  It was her Dad's favorite song.

It's been sooooo long since I've been here :'( :'( :'(  I am not taking the time to get on the computer at all.  I do devotions in the AM and then  when I get home I try to read a little without the help of a TV.  However, there are some good programs on at Christmas that I will watch.

Blessing to all this wonderful time of the year when we celebrate our Savior's birth.  Our adult Christmas Cantata is Sunday PM and then the next Sunday is the little tots program and the youth program.

Pat, sorry to hear about your fall. :'( Marilyn, you are still in my prayers for your new home.   Brother Al, I am way, way behind in the Romans study :'(  I wonder if I will ever catch up.

Psalm 1
1   Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2   But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Good morning,

It's early, and I will be on my way to work shortly. Yesterday was a good day. I learned some things about myself in a conversation with a friend last night. It's good when you can have a critique from a friend and realize good things you hadn't recognized before.

They say we may have some s-s-s-s-snow flurries here in Nashville this weekend. Enough to strike fear into my heart - I had planned to take the dogs and drive alone to Atlanta. Really don't want to miss Kassie's church Christmas program, but then again, there's Monteagle Mountain to deal with.

Must go - have a wonderful day.

Hi everyone.  We are socked in with fog this morning and it is a bit cooler than yesterday but still not bad.  We had a nice relaxed time at the Cafe this morning and didn't want to leave, in fact, we stayed an extra 10 minutes.  This is Calvin Cove day and then after that I plan on going to the "Y" to walk.  I haven't been there all this week so need to get some walking in.  My big job here at home is to work on my Christmas cards and letters as it is a big job.  I had planned to start on them yesterday but never got around to it.

It sounds like there are a lot of places having snow.  We are suppose to have more rain today but no mention of snow down this way as it is still too early for this area.  Our major concern isn't snow but ice storms.

Tbear, that is a very good poem and it is so true that sometimes you feel an almost instant friendship for people.  I think that is what happens to online communities since when folks are able to finally meet face to face it seems like we have been friends for a very long time.  I well remember the first time I met Pat Scott at a SeniorNet conference in Wilmington, NC.  We had been working and corresponding together over hosting duties on SN and there seemed to be an instant bond.  I also felt the same with the others that I were at the same meeting and then later at a big bash we had here in Atlanta.  It is wonderful to have friends.  I have this new friend who is just super and a fine Christian man.  We seem to have a lot in common and I so enjoy being in his company and I hope he feels the same way.

Etta Sue, I hope you and your sister stop your shopping a little before you drop!   ;D

Ruth Ann, hope you will be able to make the trip to Atlanta.  However, having driven thru Mont Eagle numerous times I can understand your concerns.

Kathy, I am not familar with the hold hymn you are seeking for your friend.  What is your choir singing?

Al, a wonderful devotional thought today.  Not until I read the Rich Warren book " Purpose Driven Life" did I really focus on the fact that are purpose in being on this earth is to glorify our Father in Heaven.

Well guess I had better get busy before the morning passes by.  Good to read all the posting.

Marilyn

Good Morning, Can't stay for coffee and donuts today. JUst want to say thanks= Al for the devotional. We had a short Bible Study last night and about 12 people showed up. As the Pastor said "only the dedicated ones came through the rain and wind" to church last night.

Etta Sue= you had great shopping weather we I got very wet in my shopping  expedition to K-Mart yesterday. It doesn't look like there is going to be a let up in the rain for awhile.

I've addressed 5 cards so far for friends down south that included a short update on things here.

Well must go to work now.
May God Bless your Day.

Hello all!!  Today is a rainy day in WNC, but at least we have a connection, today, now, anyway.

I've got students coming in a few minutes, so I had better go get ready for them.

Take care!!

Carol

Thanks to all who sent Don birthday greetings.  Birthday boy is now at Home Depot and he is going to put new baseboards in the bathrooms.

Ursula:  I had a purple entire side from a X-country skiing fall once.  Take care.  I am going to put the town of Rossland into Google and look for your big city life.  :0)

Soni:  Wow!  Chandraya is a super salesperson!    Yes, just watch the vaccinations hurts everyone.

Pat S:  I hope that your knees are fully mended and you are able to take on the rigors of this fast-approaching season of our celebration.  Isn't it nice to be able to come here and actually say what we think.  Thanks for all your works in that regard.

Larry:  I intend to read the "Purpose Life" again and this time use the journal.  Right after Christmas.

Al:  I keep forgetting to ask you about your legs and how are you doing in that regard?  I have not had swelling but the weather is cooler from Sept. on here plus I am on a different med now.  The real test will be when we drive to Arizona and visit as it may get hot there and that is when I tend to have swelling problems.
QuoteDo you thank Him at the end of the day for what He's done in and through you, and do you confess the occasions on which you fell short?
Al:  I try to always give thanks even when stressful things occur - Thank you for your continuing lessons and guidance.

Trials and Pain: It Works!

..Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that
the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in
infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in
distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
--2 Corinthians 12:9-10

Ten thousand enemies cannot stop a Christian, cannot even slow him
down, if he meets them in an attitude of complete trust in God. They
will become to him like the atmosphere that resists the airplane,
but which because the plane's designer knew how to take advantage of
that resistance, actually lifts the plane aloft and holds it there
for a journey of 2,000 miles.  What would have been an enemy to the
plane becomes a helpful servant to aid it on its way....

If this should seem like a bit of theorizing, remember that always
the greatest Christians have come out of hard times and tough
situations. Tribulations actually worked for their spiritual
perfection in that they taught them to trust not in themselves but
in the Lord who raised the dead. They learned that the enemy could
not block their progress unless they surrendered to the urgings of
the flesh and began to complain. And slowly, they learned to stop
complaining and start praising. It is that simple--and it works!
We Travel an Appointed Way, 32-33.

"Lord, I wish I could more readily 'stop complaining and start
praising.' I pray for Your grace to work within me that I might
allow the trials to lift me aloft rather than press me down. I'll
do it in Your strength today. Amen."

Pat, Please take care of yourself.  We need you and love you and don't want you hurt!

Zee, My heart goes out to you and your family.

After my shift with my part-time job ended last evening, I came out to my van to find the following placed under my windshield wiper.

THE CANDY CANE
Look at the Candy Cane
What do you see?
Stripes that are red
Like the blood shed for me.

White is for my Saviour
Who's sinless and pure!
"J" is for Jesus My Lord, that's for sure!

Turn it around
And a staff you will see.

Jesus my shepherd
Was born for Me!

I booked today and tomorrow off work so that I could get some service done to my vehicle (a requirement by the government before I can get my license plate sticker renewed) and it is a much bigger ouchie than expected...  I am also hoping to get my shopping for Christmas done, some baking done and my Cards written and mailed.  A tall order, and if I don't get going, will not be happening.

Wow, just got back from working out.  I am sooo sore.  It hurts to type.

Be back later.

Good day at work, got good answers fromthe mail order pharmacy guy, and got home before 7 pm. Wow! I feel like I'm on vacation again.

Thus far the weather is not as cold as I thought they predicted today.

Gotta go - the head of cabbage in my little bag of groceries won't cook by itself, will it! ;)

Hi Everyone!

I've had to do many errands today and it was difficult to drive a standard car with silly sore knees.  Every time I put my foot on the clutch I said, "Ouch!" and Geordie hugged me!  HAHAHA!

Janice came as she and Phil wanted to do some shopping.  She was so excited to know that I had the PSP9 disk so she installed it.  I haven't had a look yet.

Ursula, I copied that photo of Rebecca onto a CD and took it to Staples and had it printed in various sizes.  I know that the family will be happy to get these for Christmas presents.

It's been nice to read your posts today.

I'll be back.  I have a bread recipe that someone wants and I want to work on the photos that go with it!   ;) ;) ;)

Papa John

It has been another long day here.  This morning I went to the Nursing Home to conduct their Thursday worship.  My time comes up each fourth Thursday.  This afternoon we went across town to see Elsie, our little great granddaughter.

I talked with my sister about Walker.  They have moved him now to a regular room.  They are still having a problem controlling his blood pressure and the doctor said they would keep him until they got this under control.

Gal 3:24-29  Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.  But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.  For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.  For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.   (KJV)

I hope you all have a good night’s rest.

His Eye Is On The Sparrow
(Click to hear music)
Piano Accompaniment

Why should I feel discouraged?
Why should the shadows come?
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Chorus:
I sing because I'm happy,
I sing because I'm free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

"Let not your heart be troubled," His tender words I hear,
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears
Tho' by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Chorus:
I sing because I'm happy,
I sing because I'm free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Chorus:
I sing because I'm happy,
I sing because I'm free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

Carol - I hope you read this - I got back here kinda late, and you might not see it before everything is locked up.  Anyway - I'm wearing compression stockings, but other than  that everything is great!  I'm applying vitamin E cream to both legs every night.  The LPN told me to do that.
