Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Morning Devotional...

More of Jesus' Parables
Matthew 13:24-43  NLT

24Here is another story Jesus told: "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a farmer who planted good seed in his field. 25But that night as everyone slept, his enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat. 26When the crop began to grow and produce grain, the weeds also grew. 27The farmer's servants came and told him, `Sir, the field where you planted that good seed is full of weeds!'

28" `An enemy has done it!' the farmer exclaimed.

" `Shall we pull out the weeds?' they asked.

29"He replied, `No, you'll hurt the wheat if you do. 30Let both grow together until the harvest. Then I will tell the harvesters to sort out the weeds and burn them and to put the wheat in the barn.' "

31Here is another illustration Jesus used: "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed planted in a field. 32It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of garden plants and grows into a tree where birds can come and find shelter in its branches."

33Jesus also used this illustration: "The Kingdom of Heaven is like yeast used by a woman making bread. Even though she used a large amount of flour, the yeast permeated every part of the dough."

34Jesus always used stories and illustrations like these when speaking to the crowds. In fact, he never spoke to them without using such parables. 35This fulfilled the prophecy that said,

"I will speak to you in parables.
I will explain mysteries hidden since the creation of the world."

36Then, leaving the crowds outside, Jesus went into the house. His disciples said, "Please explain the story of the weeds in the field."

37"All right," he said. "I, the Son of Man, am the farmer who plants the good seed. 38The field is the world, and the good seed represents the people of the Kingdom. The weeds are the people who belong to the evil one. 39The enemy who planted the weeds among the wheat is the Devil. The harvest is the end of the world, and the harvesters are the angels.

40"Just as the weeds are separated out and burned, so it will be at the end of the world. 41I, the Son of Man, will send my angels, and they will remove from my Kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil, 42and they will throw them into the furnace and burn them. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43Then the godly will shine like the sun in their Father's Kingdom. Anyone who is willing to hear should listen and understand!

How concerned are you about the eternal fate of the people you know?

The young thistles (weeds) and the young blades of wheat look the same and can't be distinguished until they are grown and ready for harvest.

Thistles (unbelievers) and wheat (believers) must live side by side in this world.  God allows unbelievers to remain for a while, just as a farmer allows weeds to remain in his field so the surrounding wheat isn't uprooted with them.

At the harvest, however, the weeds will be uprooted and thrown away.  God's harvest (judgment) of all people is coming.  Be certain you are ready by making sure that your faith is sincere.

Nita ~ Then it seems that I 'fix' a pot of coffee and then 'pour' myself a cup of coffee.  I am so happy you cleared all of that up for me.

Ivalou had a great time today eating Mexican food and then seeing the movie "Glory Road".  It was about a coach coaching the Western Texas University basketball team way back in 1965 when blacks first started playing basketball.  How terrible the 'cracker' treated the blacks.  It was really great to see after the credits what all each player did with their lives....teaching, coaches, doctors, lawyers...otherwise they would have been on welfare all their lives or worse but thanks to basketball they made something of themselves.  It was based on a true story!  Really a great PG rated movie and no bad words at all!!!!

I just found out tonight that a girl that grew up with me lost her daughter to cancer last night.  She left a husband, an 11 year old and a six year old behind.  That should happen......

Papa John, good for Martha.  I know you must be tired all over. Your good news is our good news, our dear brother.  Cornelia was talking a lot, huh?  I bet that sounded wonderful to your ears. :)  I certainly enjoyed reading it.

Etta Sue, that's so sad about your friend's daughter.  I do hate cancer!

alicewyatt

So glad to hear the good report on Cornelia.  I sure have enjoyed being back in but still no time to figure things out.  Sad to hear about the Prayer breakfast but not surprised. It just brings to light the times we are in.  Our pastor says how short the time is. We must continually focus on Jesus day and night.   Bless you all. aw

Jane Walker

Papa John, You better listen to Martha and get your rest!!  I'm happy to learn that Cornelia is doing so well "and talking a lot" ... that's a good sign y'know.

About fixin' ... in the South we would "be fixin" to go to town" and a whole lot of other fixin's ... Just a way of life!  We'd even "carry" someone to town if they needed a ride!  LOL ... Such is life!   :)

All y'all take care now, y'hear?  I'll be back d'rectly ....  ;D
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Jane, what part of the south would you be from?

I'm always fixin' "to give out whippin's!  :ticked: My two youngin's are always fixin' to get in trouble!   :bash: . Always a fightin' and bickering. !!!

Good morning y'all. Today is my daughter's best friends  11th birthday so we will be fixin' to visit her this afternoon.  My goodness it seems that kids are growing up too fast.  Seems like yesterday they were toddlers playing together! Now they talk on the phone about (boys!)  :whisper: EEK!  She is precious though, they've known each other their whole lives, all 11 years.  Very rare to have a friendship start out that way.  Different as daylight and dark though.

Enough rambling, good to hear the report from Papa John.  May God bless them both.

And everyone else today.

Many parts of southern Ontario is under a storm warning resulting is many school and school bus cancellations.  The area in which I live got the call to leave the buses parked. Hubby just arrived home and he said that the roads are a mess. Pat yes that is the King Rd. along with others.

Later in the morning I will be fixin to do  laundry how about you folk?

Papa John

Well I'm up. Cornelia's sister whom she hadn't seen in 7 years came yesterday and they were glad to see each other again. The last time they were here was at our 50th Wedding Anniversary which was seven years ago. We will be going back to the hospital after while. I'm hoping she got a good night's rest. She called us from her room and she sounds a little groggy because they had given her a shot of pain killer.

Again I want to thank all of you for your support.  Prayer is powerful because God listens.  Hundreds of people have been praying for Cornelia.  She has got over a hundred and fifty get well cards.  She will have a time reading them when she gets home.  Just a week ago tonight we were afraid she wouldn't ever come home.  How God changes things.  As they rolled her out to go to surgery yesterday I kissed her and she looked up at me and said it doesn't matter and she would be waiting for me.  I told her it matters to ME!.

Papa John, praising God today!

My accent slowly changes after I leave Michigan.  As I approach Toledo I begin the metamorphisis by saying Ohi-yah instead of Ohi-oo.

As I approach the northern border of Kentucky, I started sayin' "You'awl."  By the time i reach Tennessee it has become y'all.

As I enter into Georgia, my neck starts turnin' red.  My breakfast food of fried eggs n hashbrowns turns to bisquits n gravy with a side of grits.

By the time I reach Orlando I'ma full-fledged southern boy in shorts and a T-Shirt...I'm ready to jump in my NASCAR vehicle and motor over to Daytona Beach.

How interesting the posts are today about "fixin's" etc.  We never use that term up here--at least I've never noticed it.

Yes, Ruth, big storm here in Guelph.

It's so good to read of Cornelia, Papa John.   Thanks for the update and we won't stop praying for you and her.

CheckSix, RYAN!!!  It was so good to see your post.  I will continue to pray for you in the coming days my friend.

Now, the phone is ringing.

I'll be back.

Good morning all y-all. Great devotional this morning Etta Sue. As I was fixin to read it the dog kept me busy opening and closing the door for them to go out. Sometimes they are just like kids  unable to make up their minds whether to go in or stay one way or t-other.

Today I am taking Joanne (Pastor Leroy's wife and my new client) to the Wound Care Center at the hospital.  Please keep her in prayer she has a terrible bed sore on her behind at the end of her tail bone. She is bedfast and has been since November. She needs a lot of prayer, she seems to be  giving up and not caring whether she gets better or not.

Gotta go fix some vittles now. Gotta eat 'fore I go to work.

Y-all come back now ya heah.

Ed ~ I am with you.  I pick up accents so easy.  My husband was from Alabama and the first time I spent a week down there, I was saying 'fav' instead of 'five'.  I remember the kids playing badminton and there was a little tree staked up.  My son yelled to watch out for that stake.  His cousin said, 'That's no steak.  If'n it was a steak, we'd eat it.  That's a stob!'  I will never forget that.  So, Ed, as I travel south, I, too, will change my vocabulary!  I love it!

As for my friend losing her daughter...she was only 37.  Awfully young to die of cancer.  And they lost another daughter to leukemia when she was 5 years old.  Shouldn't happen to parents younger than me....or anyone, for that fact.

Janet

Good morning!  I love all the fixin' stories, and also the accent ones.  I am asked occasionally if I am from the South, or people tell me I talk "funny" or have "an interesting accent."  Of course, to me, they are the ones who sound funny!  ;)  Pat, you asked me once on here when I said I had to fix some food, if it were broken.  That was the first time I was aware that EVERYONE doesn't FIX food.  ;)  Interesting world, and fun, isn't it?

Papa John, I am rejoicing with you today over Cornelia's successful surgery and improvement.  Praise God!! ;D

Well, I'm fixin' to teach my class this afternoon, then we are fixin' to go to Dodge City tonight, taking another couple with us to the dinner theater.  Our weather has gotten cold and windy today, too cold for Darrel to work on the ramp for Beth.  He is building a wooden ramp which goes down to the concrete they got poured yesterday.  It goes from her door to the end of the trailer, has a landing, turns the corner and goes across the end.  Now it will not be steep, and will be much easier for all of us to navigate.  She may have to stay with us for a few nights, even though she much prefers being in her own home.  That's life, too.......

Etta Sue, I love the devotional today!  Thanks!

Ryan, I'm praying for you.  Your heart is turning to God, and that's the first and major step.  God bless you and your parents as you navigate this rough patch.  Just keep looking to God for your answers, He will never let you down.

Pat and Ruth, sorry about all the snow you are getting.  We need and want some moisture so badly, and nary a flake falls here.  I think we have gone over 100 days now with NO moisture.  Really sad.  So send that down our way, and we will all be better off!  ;)

I need to finish up and mail our our Family Reunion Newsletter.  I got most of it done yesterday.  The months fly past so quickly. :o

I will not likely get back in here today, so I wish you all God's blessings and send you my love.  <3

My mother was born in Washington, near Pittsburgh Pa.  She used funny sounding words.  For those who were upset she said, "Don't get all het up about it."  After supper the table needed to be cleared.  She'd ask my brother and I, "Whose turn is it to rid up the dishes?"

I thought that these words were made up by her.

On Jeopardy one night the answer was, "A word from the Pittsburgh area meaning to gather."  The answer was "rid" (they spelled it differently)

. . . your good Spirit.  Nehemiah 9:20

Common, too common, is the sin of forgetting the Holy Spirit. This is
folly and ingratitude. He deserves better from us, for He is good,
supremely good. As God, He is good essentially. He shares in the
threefold ascription of "Holy, holy, holy" that ascends to
the Triune God. He is unmixed purity, truth, and grace. He is good
benevolently, tenderly bearing with our waywardness, striving with our
rebellious wills, quickening us from our death in sin, and then
training us for heaven as a loving father trains his children.

February 16
The Holy Spirit: The Daunting Task
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of
God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and
also for the Greek.
--Romans 1:16
The greatest event in history was the coming of Jesus Christ into the
world to live and to die for mankind. The next greatest event was the
going forth of the Church to embody the life of Christ and to spread
the knowledge of His salvation throughout the earth.

It was not an easy task which the Church faced when she came down
from that upper room.... Left to herself the Church must have
perished as a thousand abortive sects had done before her, and have
left nothing for a future generation to remember.

That the Church did not so perish was due entirely to the miraculous
element within her. That element was supplied by the Holy Spirit who
came at Pentecost to empower her for her task. For the Church was
not an organization merely, not a movement, but a walking
incarnation of spiritual energy. And she accomplished within a few
brief years such prodigies of moral conquest as to leave us wholly
without an explanation--apart from God.  Paths to Power, 7-8.

"We continue to need that power, Lord, or we still are hopelessly
incapable of the task You've left us. Empower us for our work, Holy
Spirit, even as You empowered the early church. Amen."

Wow.  Lots of posts to read.  All this fixin' and riddin' and the stob too. :)

I knew about a stob, but have never heard about "rid" meaning to" gather". I just know about getting rid of something.  The opposite of gather.   Don't we live in an interesting world?

Then there's the turtle hull. lol

It's after 11, and my car, not having the sun on it, is still frozen. Front and back windshields anyway.  The dogs went out the am and came back in dry. Even the bottoms of their feet!  They didn't stay long enough to melt the ice, I guess. haha

Have a blessed day.  Let God love you.  :)

ps: you posted while I was writing, Chris.  Now I have to go back and read it. :)

Hello to all. It has been a beautiful day here today.

Glad to hear Papa John about your wife. God is good.

Thank you Larry for helping to dispell some fear of the angiogram.  After reading about the procedure it made me feel nervous.  But I will make sure I am given some sedative for the pain.

Papa John, I'm happy for Cornelia.  You two remind me of my own dear Mom & Dad.  They loved each other so much and my Dad would have said the same thing "It matters to me"   I will continue to pray for your sweetheart.   That's what my Dad called my Mom.

We had snow and then rain and then freezing rain.  Oh boy the weather is something else.    God Bless

Love Ruthie <3 <3

Marilyn -- about the bedsore.  I don't know what they are doing to treat it, but my dad had a seriously nasty one there when he was bedfast.  Mom found some stuff called "Clear Shield" (it's sold by some direct marketing agency).  It worked wonders.  IF you are interested (or if your client is), I can have mom write what she did to get daddy's better (and it did eventually heal, even though at one point you could see his tailbone!), and you can share it.  Of course I know that some health professionals have their own way fo doing stuff, but thought I would offer.

Liz

Thank you for the devotional, Etta Sue.  Sometimes I find it hard to sort out all that keeps happening in our Christian world.  Age does not always bring great insight and wisdom in our ever confusing world.  Do share the opinion of Pastor Al and found what Chris posted yest. to be most helpful....However, have always remembered Matthew 13: 30  ("Let both grow together until the harvest. Then I will tell the harvesters to sort out the weeds and burn them and to put the wheat in the barn.") and it doesn't hurt to be reminded every little while.  When all is done, God is the one to do the sorting!

Cold here again today.  Tho' that is nicer than the rain and Sun Shone and made the world bright.  Went with Wendy to the 'small town' as she had Physio.  Sometimes I get very sad, as she is not able to put on socks and I need to help when necessary.  Always thought it would be the other way around.  Found a good buy on a winter jacket (London Fog) at 60% off, so got it and will let the chips fall where they will...that is an old saying from an old gal.  Our sayings are not as interesting as those from the US.

Took Misty to the Vet as she has what looked like a large lump on the bottom of her tummy.  Turns out it is FAT.  Thank goodness, tho' we have been trying to put her on a diet.  Vet recommended and gave samples.  She would not eat the Max diet food we had bought...Like it or not, this is going to be her food.  So active, do not understand the weight gain.  Also got some advice about her gum infection and will try the new food that also helps teeth.  Bought some Feline Greenies for treats the other week and had to toss them out.  CNN had a blurb about how harmful they are to pets and even caused deaths in dogs.  The Vet did not approve of them either.  Anyone feeding them might want to check CNN video from the other day.

So glad that things are looking up at Papa John's and will continue to pray.  Also for the other needs mentioned on the site.  I am often awake at night and it is a nice way to spend time.

Time to go and do something useful.  Have one ear on the Olympic Curling.... :-\

Pleasant evening/day and God Bless.

Liz
CHANGE NOT THY FAITH WITH CHANGING TIMES

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  Pat and I are just back from a special meeting at our church.  It dealt with some changes being proposed to our church Constitution involving some of the hot button issues that most denominations are facing now.  Unfortunately the group was very small that turned out for the briefing by our pastor and mainly older folks.

Papa John, go glad that Cornelia had the pacemaker/defibulator implanted.  They can use it to pace a weakened heart to keep it beating regularly.  I sense she will soon be preparing more of her "lists" for you to do and then we will all know that she is feeling much better.

Ruthie, I hope I didn't contribute to your nervousness but I know it is normal to feel some of that the first time.  I will be interested in your comments when it is over.

Ruth, Pat and others living in the North, I don't want to rub it in but we enjoyed temps today over 70 degrees and it is suppose to be in the 60s tomorrow.  I so enjoy living in the South.

Etta Sue, that sounds like a very good movie.  I will have to watch for it when it comes out on DVD.  Sorry to hear of the loss of the young adult to cancer.

Marilyn, I understand what your pastor's wife is going through with the bedsore.  My father had one in the same location that became a stage 4.  He finally had to have surgery and then it healed but he had to endure it for several months.  The skin can break down very easily in an older person.  We purchased a very expensive air cushioned mattace to help avoid anymore sore like that.  They are very painful.

Time for me to say goodnight.  It has been a long day.  Tomorrow morning Pat and I have to go to the dentist.  UGH!

Marilyn

Such good new Papa John, God is so good.

Janet won't be long now and Beth will be back home. But  she won't be traveling off to New York again very soon will she?

I've heard of being Het up. Fay ets (eats) her food. Sheet soup today. We sure had a scare this afternoon. Fay and I were opening up the kitchen table to insert a leaf. WE got it too far open and I slid it back toward her a little and she caught her pinkie finger in the rail. I thought I would never get the bleeding stopped. I did though and took her to her Dr.'s office and the PA stitched her up. It wasn't bad but it had flap that needed to be stitched down. That needle was small that I couldn't even see it.

Recently she bought herself a duster and it is way too big for her so she has had me take it apart and I am in the process of remaking it. That's why we were putting the leaf in the table so I could cut off the sides. and set up the sewing machine.

That would be great Karma, I will share it with the Wound Care Specialists at the hospital.

Liz I had heard about the greenines on SN in the Dog folder. Francy Lou had posted an article. I don't give them or rawhide chew to my dogs. Neither are good for them. Some dogs have had to have surgery to remove them from their stomachs.

Larry iPastor Leroy isn't MY Pastor he is at another local church, but I have been hired as caregiver to his wife. The Caregiver Registry gave them my name, and I really believe it was a God thing, Because I needed a few more hours since I don't have Versal any more.

Laters. I may be back tonight then again I may not.

I think Cornelia had a good day today. Sometimes it is hard to tell. Anyway she ate a good breakfast this morning. And at noon she ate pretty well too. They had her out in the hall walking only once before I left late this afternoon. This morning the doctor said she would probably go home tomorrow. I don't think she is ready for that. This afternoon Martha talked with his nurse and she said maybe they would keep her an extra day until Saturday.

Ruthie, I think because of the experience you had with your parents you understand.  Cornelia has been my sweetheart for all of the 56 years since we were married.  Right now I am looking for next year when we will both be 80.  I think that would be cool, as my 15 year old Grandson would say.      :rose:

Papa John,

I truly enjoy reading your posts about your wife.  God has really blessed you two with each other.  :-*

Terry and I will celebrate 21 yrs of marriage in May.  We promised each other 150 yrs together.  Of course that will make us 169 and 170 yrs old when that time comes!  But that showed the seriousness of our commitment.

Terry is my Big Cheif Daddy and I am his Babycakes, and we may look foolish to other when we talk to each other this way, but when he calls me that, I have no doubt that he still loves me.   <3

I'm fixin' to watch my preacher on the internet, so I'll be going now.

Good evening, all.

What an interesting day in New Every Morning.  Love all the talk about "fixins"

I was out this evening showing photos of Africa at the Hiking Trail Club and they sure were enjoyed.  But the weather!!!  THunder and lightening!  And rain so heavy!

I'm glad I'm home!

Now time to lock the door...
