Morning Devotional...

GOD PROVIDES WATER
Exodus 15:22-27: 17: 1-7 NIV
   
Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water.  When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah.) 

So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, "What are we to drink?"

Then Moses cried out to the LORD , and the LORD showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became sweet.

There the LORD made a decree and a law for them, and there he tested them.  He said, "If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD , who heals you."

Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped there near the water.

The whole Israelite community set out from the Desert of Sin, traveling from place to place as the LORD commanded. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink.   So they quarreled with Moses and said, "Give us water to drink."

Moses replied, "Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the LORD to the test?"

But the people were thirsty for water there, and they grumbled against Moses. They said, "Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?"

Then Moses cried out to the LORD , "What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me."

The LORD answered Moses, "Walk on ahead of the people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go.  I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink." So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel. 

And he called the place Massah and Meribah  because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the LORD saying, "Is the LORD among us or not?"

Again the people complained about their problem instead of praying.

Some problems can be solved by careful thought or by rearranging our priorities. 

Some can be solved by discussion and good counsel. 

But some problems can be solved only by prayer.  We should make a determined effort to pray when we feel like complaining because complaining only adds to our worries and stress.

Prayer quiets our thoughts and emotions and prepares us to listen.

Pat~ I didn't take time tonight to click on Photography Cafe.  Would you put in the clickable again? 

Pat ~ I forgot to tell you that I think when you highlight and click the B for Bold, it stays highlighted to click another thing.....even on Firefox!!  This is good!

It looks like Indiana may join forces with the majority of states with Daylight Savings Time.  It passed the House 5 to 4.  Businesses everywhere may not have to think what time is Indiana this month.  It doesn't matter to me what they do....we will live with whatever they do.

It has been a lazy day for me.  Catching up on my TV shows and catching up on some lost sleep.  The snow is almost melted...still a tiny bit out there.  But there is also lots of water from rain.  We ought to have a very green spring when spring decides to spring!!

The Holy Spirit: Dead Churches

..These things says He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven
stars: "I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive,
but you are dead."
--Revelation 3:1

I think we are going to have to restudy this whole teaching of the
place of the Holy Spirit in the Church, so the Body can operate
again. If the life goes out of a man's body, he is said to be a
corpse. He is what they call "the remains." It is sad, but humorously
sad, that a strong, fine man with shining eyes and vibrant voice, a
living man, dies, and we say, "the remains" can be seen at a funeral
home. All the remains of the man, and the least part about him, is
what you can see there in the funeral home. The living man is gone.
You have only the body. The body is "the remains."

So it is in the Church of Christ. It is literally true that some
churches are dead. The Holy Spirit has gone out of them and all you
have left are "the remains." You have the potential of the church
but you do not have the church, just as you have in a dead man the
potential of a living man but you do not have a living man. He
can't talk, he can't taste, he can't touch, he can't feel, he can't
smell, he can't see, he can't hear--because he is dead! The soul has
gone out of the man, and when the Holy Spirit is not present in the
Church, you have to get along after the methods of business or
politics or psychology or human effort.  The Counselor, 112-113.

Matt, those are such cute photos.  I hope you've started a topic in the Photos Here area for little Levi so we won't miss a moment.  (They will get lost in the past here in NEM)  I remember so well my kids first birthday!  Such fun!


Chris, thanks once again!  Do we know of any churches like are spoken of by Dr. Tozer?  I sure do!

    While we're speaking of linking to show our photos, I'll just explain one wee thing...

    When you upload a photo to a Coppermine Gallery (like we have on our site and like this new Photography Cafe uses), the software produces a smaller medium-sized or "intermediate" photo that is 400 pixels whide.

    BUT... If you upload a photo to a Coppermine Gallery that is already 400 pixels or less in size the software won't produce a medium-sized one.  So... with that in mine, if your photo is 400 pixels or under but about 70K in size, that won't be compressed to a smaller one as the pixel size is already down and thus your photo is very large.

    So..   upload a photo that is OVER 400 pixels and then the medium-sized one or the "Intermediate" photo will be compressed to be approximately 35K which is a nice size for those of our folks who are still on slow computers or slow connections.

    If you have any questions about this, PLEASE don't hesitate to drop me a PM.  I, too, found this confusing at first.



    Now, how many of these things do YOU remember?  I must admit that I remember most or all! :o

    Good Morning. Thank you  Etta Sue and Chris for the devotionals today.

    Pat I do have a gallery on Photography Cafe but my photos are not in it. I wanted them in the competition anyway. The Quiet Places folder.

    Today I have both jobs to go to. Neither of my jobs are  hard to do, just do the things I would be doing at home for both clients. I love my job because I get the chance to  see other people and being a blessing to them blesses me. I am a helper that is the talent that God has given me and I have a heqart for the Seniors who can no longer dot he things that they used to do. I will probably be working for a long time to come.

    Pat Actually my car passed the smog tests. I guess I didn't word that quite right.

    Hello to all who will come to visit us today. I am praying for those who have requested prayers. Blessings to everyone.

    What a darling Levi that Matt has.  No wonder he has no complaints.  And I agree.  It is wonderful to have a life that you can't find anything to complain about.  Chris, I feel my church is alive when I see more chairs being brought in the santuary for people to sit upon.  Every week, we seem to grow. Pat, thanks for the clickable that I bookmarked.  Don't know why I didn't think of that last night.  Well, I know.  I wasn't thinking last night.  But that is another story.  How do you find all the time to do the things you do on the internet?  Love the 50's thing.  Yeah, I remember most of them, too.  God bless you, Marilyn, for your talent to help those who can no longer help themselves.  I am not quite that old yet but I do have things that I will no longer do myself and that's when I call on my son or Jerry to help with moral support.  I sure hope that Al gets a good report on his cellulitis/osis legs.  Praying for you, bro. 

    It is nice and sunny outside here.  Looks like spring!  But it isn't.  Very cold.  Only 24°.  and suppose to get into the teens tonight.  Cold.  But I have some errands to do today so I had better get on the run.

    Hi everyone.  Been dealing with another car problem today, they seem to come in bunches.  My daughter's car refused to start two mornings ago and I didn't have time to deal with it yesterday.  This morning I got the names of a couple of garages where people who have lived here a long time have had success.  Then we called AAA to come and tow the car to one of them.  Of course, when the driver pushed it back into the street and then the car started.  I went ahead and had it towed as we already had the tow truck here and had used one of our uses with AAA.  It needs to be checked out as I don't want her out on the road with an unreliable car.  Hope this won't be another major car expense.

    Matt, you sure have a cute little boy.  Was that birthday cake he was eating from his 1st birthday? 

    Karmat, I can't remember whether I commented on your new baby but she is a beauty.  Glad you are feeling better each day and now you discover what it means to be the mother of two little ones.

    Sonja, am anxious to see your photos of your studio.  It sounds like you are going to be all set.  Are you hanging out a shingle to advertise your business?

    Pat, I also wonder where you find the time to work on all the sites in which you are involved.  Just running this one would be a full time job much less what you do on SeniorNet in so many areas.  You must be more efficient than I as I can't seem to catch up. 

    Etta Sue, thanks for the Devotional thoughts today.

    Good morning!  I have been to the weight room and worked out, then swam a quarter mile.  When I got home, Beth called and said Ruffles (her cockatoo) was out of her cage and she couldn't catch her.  So I went over, held my hand down to Ruffles, and she climbed right on; and did not ofject when I put her back into her cage.  I guess she just wanted attention.

    Today is painting day.  We missed last week because I was taking the portrait class, and I imagine the gals will be glad to be back.  Pat, I wish you had felt like coming to Kansas, then you could paint with us!

    Etta Sue, good devotional; same thing I read recently.  I am reading through the One Year Bible again this year.  We got a little snow last evening and night, but it is all gone now, and looks to be a pretty day here again.  On Monday it was 74 degrees---just beautiful!  Then on Wed. it snows.  That's Kansas!  ;D

    Matt, the lighting in the first picture of little Levi is just wonderful!  He's such a darling little boy--just adorable!

    Marilyn, sounds as if your days are going about as usual.  You do keep busy.

    Larry, I sure hope your daughter's car won't be a big expense.  Those things sure can wreak havoc on a budget, can't they?  Not to mention the aggravation they cause.  Maybe it will be some small thing, like Marilyn's was.  We hope!

    Lessee.  Today I've done the dishes, straightened the bedroom, straightened the kitchen, and I"m getting ready to fix Travis's lunch.  That's more than I've done is 3 or 4 weeks!!!!

    My goal for today -- take a picture of Travis and Kristi using the new flash attachment nards gave me for Valentines day.

    Hi Larry, Janet, Etta Sue, Matt, Pat, Chris, Carol, Marilyn, Al, and Karmat:

    I went to the eye surgeon early this morning.  He said my pressure was up and gave me 2 more drops to put in my eye.  So all day long I have to remember to put drops in my eye.  So far I can't see any better, but should be better later. 

    I am so fortunate to have my brother in law and sister living close to me.  Pastor Kamyl Cadinouche took me to the doctor at 8:00 a.m. and then went to the church to prepare his sermon.  He is being inducted into Willowdale Baptist Church this sunday. 

    I will check in later and keep you posted.

    All in all it is still amazing what can be done today!   God bless

    Hi Marilyn...

    There is no competition right now on Photography Cafe.  We had Quiet Places set up during the building of the site to test voting, etc. 

    So, can you create your albums again?  And upload at least one photo and then Clive can put the ones you uploaded into that album.  He can't until you create a unique album with a name like "Travel" or something.

    Well, it has been awhile since I have reported in here.  Sorry about that.  Sometimes I just have to cut down some on computer time.

    Sunday we had a especially interesting service.  Our preacher talked about the importance of prayer.  It was one of those lessons which really challenged all of us to pray for people and to pray for those who are lost.  He asked everyone to write the name of a person or persons they would pray for and all these names were turned in.  There were more than 400 names.  Our elders came forward and prayed over them and pledged that they would pray for each person individually.

    I hope everyone is doing well.  There are too many posts for me to go back and read them all. 

    Rom 8:26  Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.  (KJV)

    Papa John!  Good to see you here; I was just thinking about you and realizing how much I missed your posts.  Glad you weren't ill or anything, and I sure understand about having to cut down some on computer time!

    Ruthie, no, I haven't had cataract surgery (yet!) but did take my Mom for hers, and watched the whole operation.  I also have the tape of it.  It is fascinating, and amazing what they can do now.  Just think, many years ago, so many people went blind because of cataracts, and now it's a pretty simple procedure.  (Yes, I know--NO surgery is simple, if it is being done on YOUR body!)  ;)  Yours must have been more complicated, though, because Mom's only took about 11 minutes.

    Beth was hungry for Pizza, so Darrel took us out to eat.  Then we stopped by the store for a few things she wanted.  Now I can settle in for the whole evening!  Ahhhh......   ;D

    Is anyone else getting weird coding from Chris' post? 

    I have had a busy day learning about white balance on my camera, getting my backdrop set up(that was a chore and a half), moving boxes around and enjoying my new lenses.  So much to learn. I want to learn it all right now.  hehehe..  I feel like a sponge.

    Yes, Larry I plan to put an advertisment in the paper and around town to start with, but I would like to get all this stuff figured out before I go public.  I do have friends from the dance center that are paying me to take pictures of their kids. That is great experience there. 

    Karma, you did more then me today, cleaningwise that is. hehehe. Can't wait to see the new pictures of your little ones. 

    I am off to practice dance now.

    Hey Janet,

    I saw your reply in the yesterday's topic. Pefect timing for me to reply here since your post is right above mine.

    I'm heading back to Helene (the island at the tip of Roatan) in April. I think April 2. Unfortunately we are only going down for a week (we spent 10 days there last time, it's always nice to be down there longer. We have a great time). The nice thing is we have a smaller group. Last year we had 26, this year we have I think 11 including the chaparones. We are going down with our sister school who is sending down a larger team of 20 or so but they will be the island for only 2 days. I think they'll be going to some other churches on Roatan for the rest of the time.

    Stigmata: We had our debate today in the class. My school is non-denominational so that means we have people from all over the denomination map. We have two devout Catholics in our class. Personally, I do not believe the Stigmata is from God. That being said, I'm sure that God could give someone the Stigmata if he wanted to. But, the question is why? Jesus suffered the pain and death so we wouldn't have to. Stigmata is recieving the wounds and the pain that Christ suffered. When Jesus said "It is finished," he meant that the sin was taken and we would not suffer the way he did. Secondly, in one particular case, regarding a famous Stigmatist, I think there is evidence to suggest that it does not bring honor and glory to God. Padre Pio was a Capuchin priest in the small Italian town of San Giovanni Rotondo. I believe he received the Stigmata in 1918. He had it for 50 years. When he died, the Stigmata was gone without scars. I believe he also lived solely on the Holy Eucharist (Christ's Last SUpper) and no other food. He also had confession for 18 hours a day. Thousands of Catholics flocked to the town to see him.

    Now that sounds convincing does it not? However....

    A cult began to form around Padre Pio. The two Catholics that I debated with denied this. But, I found evidence of this online. San Giovanni Rotondo, today, has 30,000 residents. They have 8,000 hotel rooms to accomodate the 6 to 7 million pilgrims that come yearly to the town. Padre Pio Paraphenalia, such as key-chains, statues, books, etc. sell $2 million dollars annually. Hotels in San Giovanni Rotondo rake in $50 million, Bars and restaurants: $60 million. Padre Pio's hospital gets $50 to $100 million annualy in donations. There are 3,000 websites dedicated to Padre Pio. Padre Pio has his own TV station which started in 2002 that is broadcasted around the world. There is the Padre Pio Foundation of America. In the section on the main page which states who the Padre Pio Foundation is, God is only mentioned once in the entire section. Their main goal is to promote devotion to Padre Pio. Of course I understand the whole veneration aspect of saints, however, on other pages, it talks about how people have experienced Padre Pio working in their lives. Most of the people tell that they prayed to Padre Pio for intercession (Jesus is the only mediator we need I think that's found in  1 Peter 2:15). Rarely do the people say they prayed to God or Jesus for help. Prayer to the dead is forbidden in the Bible (Found in Deuteronomy). Finally, what stands out to me as fishy is the fact the Padre Pio is said to have had other "gifts," such as Fortune-telling, bi-location (being in tw places at once), and the ready of souls. That stands out to me as being Biblically wrong. I believe that if somone receives a gift from God, they should use it to God's glory. Even it was against the Padre's will to have a cult following him, it is still wrong because it seems as if people are directing their attention away from God and to the Padre.

    In other instances with other stigmatists, I find that rarely does it bring glory to God.

    Finally, in conclusion, I have to say that the whole stigmata thing makes no difference in the end. It will not get us to heaven and it will not give us a higher standing in heaven. What matters is the belief in Jesus Christ for salvation.

    Sorry if I babeled on. I found I had the same problem in the debate. I had so much to say I couldn't get my point accross entirely. Also, please note the preceding is my own personal view and I do not mean to demean the Catholic faith. I also hope I have not offended anyone and please forgive me if I have.

    Hey all guess what my honey sent me for Valentines day? a dozen roses 8 red and 4 white they came a day late so they knocked off the delivery charge.They were able to take Johns mom off the ventalator today without having to do a temporary tracea and thats good news and God working in her,thanks for all your prayers for her but please don't stop yet she still has to get home .My chat rm still boots me out at night just when I try and posts so I never get to talk to anyone,and that really stinksWell my head feels funny now like a pez despenser ,like my head is attached to neck with a string and its feels sort of numb and very odd.Thats all I have to say for now bye all Beth

It was one of those lessons which really challenged all of us to pray for people and to pray for those who are lost. He asked everyone to write the name of a person or persons they would pray for and all these names were turned in. There were more than 400 names. Our elders came forward and prayed over them and pledged that they would pray for each person individually.

    PAPA JOHN!!!!  You have absolutely NO idea how happy I am to see your post.  I've been really tested lately and I'm asking the Lord to teach me to pray.  Etta Sue posted a devotional on this the other day too.
