JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Morning Devotional...

Trials and Pain:
The Back Side of the Desert

Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
--Exodus 3:1

We should quickly review here the kinds of preparation Moses had gone through for his leadership role under God. Reared in Pharaoh's palace, he had been educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians. He had the prerequisites for almost any kind of career. In our day a man with his qualifications would be sought for election as a bishop or the president of any of the great church denominations.

Then, too, Moses had a most unusual but highly effective postgraduate course. God took him out of the activity and the noise of Egypt and placed him in the silence of the open spaces.  He kept the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law. Tending the sheep, he learned lessons of meditation and observation that he could only have learned in the silence.

Probably more important than anything else, Moses learned to know himself. That knowledge was a part of God's preparation of the man for his future tasks. We, today, know everything but ourselves. We never really come to know ourselves because we cannot get quiet enough.
Dr. Tozer in Men Who Met God, p. 70

"Lord, I pray this morning for the hurting pastor who is languishing in 'the silence of the open spaces,' on the back side of the desert. Encourage him; instruct him; then show Him how You can use him mightily in Your way and in Your time. Amen."

The Holy Spirit: The Power God Recognizes
"Woe to the rebellious children," says the Lord, "who take counsel,
but not of Me, and who devise plans, but not of My Spirit, that
they may add sin to sin."
--Isaiah 30:1
The continued neglect of the Holy Spirit by evangelical Christians
is too evident to deny and impossible to justify....
It is not, however, the frequency of the Spirit's mention in the
Bible or in other writings that matters most, but the importance
attached to Him when He is mentioned. And there can be no doubt
that there is a huge disparity between the place given to the
Spirit in the Holy Scriptures and the place He occupies in popular
evangelical Christianity. In the Scriptures the Holy Spirit is
necessary. There He works powerfully, creatively; here He is
little more than a poetic yearning or at most a benign influence.
There He moves in majesty, with all the attributes of the Godhead;
here He is a mood, a tender feeling of good will....
The only power God recognizes in His church is the power of His
Spirit whereas the only power actually recognized today by the
majority of evangelicals is the power of man. God does His work by
the operation of the Spirit, while Christian leaders attempt to
do theirs by the power of trained and devoted intellect. Bright
personality has taken the place of the divine afflatus.  God
Tells the Man Who Cares, 108,110-111.

"O Lord, work powerfully, creatively; move in majesty. Send the
divine afflatus to overshadow our intellect and personalities.
Come in power, for Jesus' sake. Amen."

Dear Al and Marbeth, God's richest blessings upon you for health and strength and good refreshing sleep.
Pappa John and Cornelia, still praying for you every day.
" I AM THE LORD WHO HEALETH ALL THY DISEASES."

Janet

:(  :'(   What a night, and what a day this has started out to be.  I slept little at all and feel a cold attacking me which I am trying to fend off with prayer and vitamins.  We got a call at 4:45 from Darrel's renter, saying she heard the sound of rushing water, and there was steam coming off the roof!  He went in and turned the water off at the alley, because it was still dark.  But he could see water running out from under the end of the mobile home.  :ticked:  That thing has been there for almost 40 years, and never had the pipes freeze and break before!!

Then I got up, and ......... our water is frozen off, too!  :ticked:  It has been 15* below zero since we have lived here, and we never had the water freeze off, either!

I called to check on Beth, and she still has water because I told her to leave hers dripping last night.  BUT......... >:( :( :'(  she fell out of bed last night, trying to get her legs up on the bed; and called Denise and Ken (her sister and her husband who are both EMTs) to get her up off the floor.  It was hard even for them, so I'm sure I couldn't have done it, especially with my shoulder/arm still giving me trouble.  She doesn't think her hip is broken, but it is very sore. :'(

So, even with all we have done and arranged for her, I'm not all that sure Beth can continue to live alone.  It saddens me, but she needs to be somewhere she can get the help she needs, and she doesn't want to live with us, even though she could have her own apartment area.

Instead of a Saturday, this feels like a BLUE MONDAY.  Sorry for venting.

Beth has nothing to eat, so I guess I better head to the kitchen, then to the grocery store.  :-\  I'm tired.  I need  :coffee:

Yes Lord, I pray You'll give Janet strength and wisdom.  I pray You'll give Beth willingness to do whatever is Your best for her.  Oh show Yourself mighty, Father, and grant that all that family may come forth praising Your Name for Your mighty mercy.

Ruthie

Janet, sorry for all the trouble you are having.   I have had my pipes break because they were frozen about 3 years ago.   We turned off the water and my son came down from Newmarket and fixed the pipes.  He had to punch a hole in the wall and attach the pipes and sauder then together.   What a mess.   I had a flood in the basement.  Hope everything starts improving soon.    Maybe Beth should think about a room mate to live in the same place as her.   Could be a solution?      God Bless

Love Ruthie

Janet, so sorry to hear of Beth's fall and the additional problems you experienced last evening and now coming down with a cold.  I saw on the news that it was really cold back your way.  I remember the few years we lived in a mobile home in Illinois and Kentucky that we always had to keep a heat tape plugged in during the winter as the pipes are really exposed.

Pat, sorry to read that you are once again fighting the flu.  You have certainly had more than your share of that this winter.

Al, glad that Marbeth didn't have to be admitted.

Papa John, it sounds like the pacemaker,  along with getting the fluid from around the heart, has really helped Cornelia in her recovery.  I do hope she is able to get out of the hospital today so she can get some rest.  I have never found the hospital a place to really get rest.

Marilyn, it sounds like you were in a whirling dervish yesterday with all that running about.  Hope your weekend will be quieter.

Hi Chris and Margit.  Sue, I hope you have a restful and enjoyable weekend.

Nita, I haven't a clue as to what I have done to earn such lavish praise but I thank you for your kind comments.

This morning after coffee I went to our local hardware store.  They were having a 20% off for any non-sale item you could fit into their special grocery bags.  I was able to get some three-way bulbs for $1 each and a few other items we needed.  It is really chiilly and damp here this morning, only 42 degrees.  This will be a good day to stay inside and fortunately we don't have to go anywhere else that I know of except to the mailbox after lunch.

Hope everyone has a great day.  I have some webwork that I need to accomplish today that I have been putting off.

Marilyn

Well I guss I ought to come in and at least say good morning and to thank Chris and Pat for today's devotionals.

Good Morning

Thank you Chris and Pat.

Today will be a little bit slower for me. I have to sew that robe back together for Fay, fix her  dinner and do her dishes. Then go ovedr to Pastor Leroy's and take him to the store, then it is back home to enjoy the rest of my day, shower and shampoo my hair and get myself ready for tomorrow. Tomorrow night I go to the Sleep Clinic again and I also have to go over and wash Fay's dishes. She still doesn't want to get her finger wet or even change the bandage that the PA put on Thursday. So that is my weekend plans.

Hi everyone!

Seems like the only time I get here is when it's snowing.  My little daffodils are completely frozen. Took this picture this a.m.

Pat: so sorry to hear you are not feeling well.  I'll be praying for your speedy recovery.

I finally got the Bible lessons on the Ten Commandments finished.  They can now be posted on everyone's website as free content.  You can view the process at:
http://www.bible-ebooks.com/tencommands.html

I'm working to automate the process so I don't have to manually post them each Monday.

Will try to visit more often.  Really miss everyone's postings.

Thanks everyone...   It might not be the flu but just a feeling of being "run down".  Not sure.   But my bed sure is nice to be in!

Hi Gwen!   It's so nice to see you.  Yes, it's been a very long time.

Hi Ruthie!   What a mess that must have been to have your pipes freeze.  It's never happened to me so that's good.  I always shut my taps off (outside ones) inside the house and then I open my outside tap.

Janet, I don't know how you keep on.  Yes, it might be a good thing if Beth could maybe consider a room mate?  But maybe that's not possible at all.

Everyone, it's so nice to sit here and read your messages.

I'll be back.

LET'S SING!!!

Until Then

(Click to hear music)

Words and music by Stuart Hamblen

My heart can sing when I pause to remember
A heartache here is but a stepping stone
Along a trail that's winding always upward,
This troubled world is not my final home.

Chorus
But until then my heart will go on singing,
Until then with joy I'll carry on,
Until the day my eyes behold the city,
Until the day God calls me home.
The things of earth will dim and lose their value
If we recall they're borrowed for awhile;
And things of earth that cause the heart to tremble,
Remembered there will only bring a smile.

The things of earth will dim and lose their value
If we recall they're borrowed for awhile;
And things of earth that cause the heart to tremble,
Remembered there, will only bring a smile.

Chorus
But until then my heart will go on singing,
Until then with joy I'll carry on,
Until the day my eyes behold the city,
Until the day God calls me home.
The things of earth will dim and lose their value
If we recall they're borrowed for awhile;
And things of earth that cause the heart to tremble,
Remembered there will only bring a smile.

This weary world with all its toil and struggle
May take its toll of misery and strife:
The soul of man is like a waiting falcon--
When it's released, it's destined for the skies.

Chorus:
But until then my heart will go on singing,
Until then with joy I'll carry on,
Until the day my eyes behold the city,
Until the day God calls me home.
The things of earth will dim and lose their value
If we recall they're borrowed for awhile;
And things of earth that cause the heart to tremble,
Remembered there will only bring a smile.

I was sooooooooooooooo nice to not have to be up super early for work.  I did have an early appointment to get my hair trimmed.  I feel so much lighter now.  I have watched a bit of the Olympics and need to get a bit of housework done before heading out for dinner.

Have a good day everyone.

Good Afternoon:
Thanks for the devotionals I sure enjoy them.
It is a sunny but cold day her in Nobleton.
I had trouble again logging in but the storm the other day did a job at getting my setting mixed up. I trust that all is fixed.
I must get ready to leave as I have some errands to do in Woodbridge.

Here is a free site called The Good Earth and Apollo 8 speaking. The pictures are amazing and listen to the words.

http://www.frontiermultimedia.com/the-good-earth.htm

We went to the gym this morning & did some exercise, read the paper and had free coffee.  Came home & I shoveled the driveway because the snow was very light and the sun is shining.  Last night, our temperature was minus 18 degrees F.

Pat:  That is a very interesting message on Moses.  Imagine - going to "find himself".  Sometimes we are so caught up in our worldly things and circumstances suddenly change just for that reason - to be calm and think clearly.  I just read the Shout part & see that you are not feeling well.  Wishing you a better day & quick recovery.

Janet:  sorry that you are catching a cold.  I have been able to keep the germs at bay by drinking some homemade Russian Tea mix with hot water daily - all that vitamin C from Tang.  That is so dangerous for Beth to be alone - I wonder if she could have one of those emergency lifeline things on her that would alert someone.  Sorry about those frozen pipes.

Gwen:  Nice to see you posting.  You have a nice springtime picture.

Al:  It sound like everything is under control now - what a relief for you.  You two need a good night's sleep & perhaps naps as well to catch up.

Carol

Janet

Here I am again!  Our water is still frozen off, and we can't do anything until it thaws because we have no idea where the blockage may be.  I discovered that Beth's hot water is also frozen off.  But Darrel went in and found the break in the line at his trailer and got that fixed.  We do have heat tapes on Beth's pipes, so it shouldn't have happened....but it did.  Darrel said they told him at the lumber yard that several people had been in for plumbing parts and said theirs had never frozen before either.  So we are not alone, but not much comfort in that.

Yes, a roommate for Beth would be a perfect solution, if she could find one who wouldn't mind helping her a little bit, and who would be compatible with her.  She doesn't really need all that MUCH help, but does need some.  And she has two bedrooms and two bathrooms.  I have thought of that before, but nothing has come of it yet.

I went over to fix Beth some Breakfast, then helped her change her clothes, and also changed the dressings on her wounds.  She says her hip is really sore.

Thank you to all who are so faithful to pray for Beth.

I am feeling better; still taking vitamin C and zinc and drinking green tea.  I do hope I can head this thing off!

I think I will lie down for a while, I'm just really feeling tired.

Pat, I hope you feel better real soon. :-*

Well I guess all God's children are suffering in one way or another!
Margit has been ill for over a week  something called " pharyngitis"  and I too have had it for three days, it's awful!  We both are taking forever to get over it.
But hey.. God is still in control, we have had several things happen to us lately and after trying to work out why they should be allowed to happen, the conclusion came.. it draws us nearer to Him!

Thanks so very much, Chris & Margit.  We shall pray for you as well.  I think you're absolutely correct - many of these things (possibly even all) are intended to draw us to Himself.  Let's admit it - we need it, because we so easily slip away.

Marbeth's up at the laundry room (about a block and a half away) right now.  But we headed off any problem - we got ourselves a set of "walkie-tlkies", and she can call me anytime she needs to!  Works well.

Etta Sue

Larry ~ You totally have me wrong.  I should have been doing Spring and Fall cleaning these last few years but I didn't.  So now, with Euchere Club being here, I will have Spring Cleaning for 2006 done!  It was sure needed.  It really didn't look bad until you really looked close.  Sorry about your tooth and your coffee buddy.

Janet ~ NO!  If my body would let me, I would like to come clean for you but my body says 'Ouch!' each evening.  My back sure knows I am doing things I haven't done for a very long time.  Glad Beth is home and I know Mieka is, too.  Janet, I just read your post about Beth falling off the bed.  God Bless her, she is trying so hard to be independent.  But....there comes a time when she and everyone concerned needs to make a decision.

Marilyn ~ It looks like you, Janet and I are :tiredtread:  I wonder why we do such things???

Al ~ Sorry to hear Marbeth was at the ER.  But if needed that is the place to be.  They say you can't catch up on lost sleep but I sure like to try!  Let me see...I think I can sleep Wednesday.

Sue ~ HAPPY WEEKEND OFF TWO DAYS!!!

Pat ~ I am hoping you get rid of that tired feeling.  If you know how, let me know!!

Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning.  Today I washed some throw rugs.  But the washer wouldn't drain out.  It would do it's last spin and as soon as it stopped, water would come back in the tub.  Finally I gave up and threw them in the dryer.  It took almost 3 hours for them to dry.    Also noticed that the washer water didn't go into the field tile...it was in my basement.  I think I need a plumber.  I think the field tile is either water logged from so much rain or is filled with tree roots.  So I need everything plumbed to the septic tank.  After Florida!

Ivalou called me and asked me over for Chili.  I told her only if I could bring dirty clothes and use her washer.  Sure.  So I did.  I dried them here.  Everything is going wrong.  First the last woman for Euchere called and said she had to work.  Kitty has a doctor appointment.  Another lady said she couldn't.  So I called my niece.  She isn't working President's Day and would be happy to play Euchere.  Then the washer mess.  And the basement mess.  Then I banged my leg on the dryer door.  Then a shelf fell off the wall as I was dusting it.  Grrrr!

But I am all clean and some women are going out to eat tonight.  It is cold....only 9°F so I am dressing for warmth!

Gotta go or my ride will be here.

Chris & Margit Saunders

Now Marbeth is gonna know just where you are Al better be good  lol. :)

Janet, is there a nursing school nearby?  I was thinking if so, one of the students might be willing to live with Beth and could help with her, etc.

A friend just sent this to me and after reading it I wanted to share it with my friends here.  It is a bit long but worth the read:

Keep Your Fork

There was a young woman who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and
had been given three months to live.  So as she was getting her things "in
order,"she contacted her pastor and had him come to her house to discuss
certain aspects of her final wishes.  She told him which songs she wanted
sung at the service, what scriptures she would like read, and what outfit
she wanted to be buried in.

Everything was in order and the pastor was preparing to leave when the
young woman suddenly remembered something very important to her. "There's
one more thing," she said
excitedly.

"What's that?" came the pastor's reply.

"This is very important," the young woman continued. "I want to be buried
with a fork in my right hand."

The pastor stood looking at the young woman, not knowing quite what to say.

"That surprises you, doesn't it?" the young woman asked.

"Well, to be honest, I'm puzzled by the request," said the pastor.

The young woman explained.  "My grandmother once told me this story, and
from there on out, I have always done so.  I have also, always tried to
pass along its message to those I love and those who are in need of
encouragement.

In all my years of attending church socials and potluck dinners, I always
remember that when the dishes of the main course were being cleared,
someone would inevitably lean over and say, 'Keep your fork.' It was my
favorite part because I knew that something better was coming, like velvety
chocolate cake or deep-dish apple pie.  Something wonderful, and with
substance!' So, I just want people to see me there in that casket with a
fork in my hand and I want them to wonder "What's with the fork?"  Then I
want you to tell them: "Keep your fork.  The best is yet to come."
The pastor's eyes welled up with tears of joy as he hugged the young woman
good-bye.

He knew this would be one of the last times he would see her before her
death.  But he also knew that the young woman had a better grasp of heaven
than he did.
She had a better grasp of what heaven would be like than many people twice
her age, with twice as much experience and knowledge.  She KNEW that
something better was coming.

At the funeral people were walking by the young woman's casket and they saw
the pretty dress she was wearing and the fork placed in her right hand.
Over and over, the pastor heard the question "What's with the fork?" And
over and over he
smiled.
During his message, the pastor told the people of the conversation he had
with the young woman shortly before she died.  He also told them about the
fork and about what it symbolized to her.

The pastor told the people how he could not stop thinking about the fork
and told them that they probably would not be able to stop thinking about
it either.

He was right.

So the next time you reach down for your fork, let it remind you ever so
gently, that the best is yet to come.

Friends are a very rare jewel, indeed.  They make you smile and encourage
you to succeed.  They lend an ear, they share a word of praise, and they
always want to open their hearts to us.

Show your friends how much you care.  Remember to always be there for them,
even when you need them more.  For you never know when it may be their time
to "Keep your fork."

Cherish the time you have, and the memories you share. Being friends with
someone is not an opportunity but a sweet responsibility.

Janet

Larry, I really like "Keep Your Fork."  It really does have a good point.

Karma, the nearest nursing school is 60-70 miles away.  Marilyn, she will get Home Health Care three days per week, only for helping her shower and get her socks on.  No other help available that I know about; no social worker has talked to her.

Will someone tell me how to post photos here in NEM?  It seems they do not get looked at in the gallery, and if they were here, they would at least be seen once by everyone who reads the posts.

I had a lovely afternoon after my rotten morning.  Curtis and Abby came up and spent the afternoon with us.  Love those grandkids!  :)

We still have no water, and I am trying to figure out how to make myself presentable for church in the morning.............. :(

Aw, shucks, Etta Sue.......ya mean I gotta clean it myself?  I thought sure you would jump in your car and come right over!  ;)

Well, I have to say that I'm quite pleased with the way the photos are being commented on in the gallery.

For instance:

  • Janet & Darrel has been viewed 9 times and 4 comments

  • Pastor & wife has been viewed 7 times and 5 comments

  • Choc. fountain has been viewed 8 times and 7 comments

  • Four young people has been viewed 6 times and 4 comments

  • Gavin has been viewed 7 times and 4 comments

The total comments then is 24!!!!

You'd not get 24 comments if they were put in here.  We wouldn't mind one in here every so often but we don't want to fill up New Every Morning with photos.

Let's put Gavin in here as a clickable link to the Gallery where we want folks to leave comment.  They were only put up today too, right?  On many photo sites, that's more comments than a photo would get.

I hope that everyone will go to the Gallery and click on "Last Uploads" and then you'll see the photos that have been uploaded that day and you can comment on them.  I'm pleased by the ones that have been doing this.   A hearty Thank You for doing this! <3
